Awesome place to have lunch if you like indian food like me .. awsome very clean place
I've never had Indian food before so the buffet was perfect. I tried everything on the buffet and I really enjoyed almost everything. There were a few that didn't look very appetizing but they were very delicious so I encourage you to try them all. The nan here is amazing. I really enjoyed the Red Chicken and the bathrooms were very clean.
The meat wasn't fully cooked, and chewy. The rice was so dry it looked burnt. The order was to go, and there was barely anything in it when we opened it. It looked more like it should have been $5, not over $10. I'm only giving it two stars because I enjoyed the curry. My boyfriend enjoyed the hummus and lamb. Overall, not worth the price.
Could add a bit more spice. The butter chicken was slightly over cooked and a bit sweet. Loved the the beef and goat curry as always.
I eat here often because this is the best and most authentic Indian restaurant in Kansas City. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and very helpful.
I love the food at Taj Mahal. They used to include a sweet ball in their takeout order. They don't anymore. I've been going there since it opened, so that's a disappointment. How much can a ball of bread in syrup cost?
Always fast, friendly service. Best Indian food in Kansas City.
The food is absolutely fantastic. The portions are large and the prices are fair. The people that work here are also very nice and overall the experience is very pleasant every visit.
Everything was way too salty and they know it because they put a pitcher of water at the table. Naan is only given once with only 3 palm sized pieces. Mango lassi and chai tea are not included in the buffet. The staff is not polite. The table had food smeared on it.
Awesome place. Awesome service. Very nice people. And the food is delicious
Never tried there food I work for Postmates and GrubHub
always good- very consistent, lots of veggie options, today they had cauliflower potato, veggi korma, mushroom mixed veggie and a hot cabbage potato, green bean and tomato. yes it is somewhat better at dinner
It was fine. Wasn't great. Had the vegetable biryani, kind of seemed like if Uncle Bens took a shot at making it. Didn't taste fresh. Small samosas. Very nice people and nice looking place though.
The food here is good, but when I came to pickup a to-go order they accidentally gave my order to someone else. That could be a simply resolved issue, but they didn't handle it well at all. When I placed my order they told me it would be 20 minutes. I got my food in 35 minutes. They just gave me the same food this lady was driving around with for 15 minutes. On top of all this I barely got anything resembling an apology. For how much I paid I don't expect these type of mistakes. I'll be getting my to-go Indian food from somewhere else from now on. Just not professional at all.
Great food and service
The best food ever!! Love the Chicken Mango. I have been eating here for over 10 years. It's s drive for me since they are no longer on the Missouri side. But well worth traveling for!
The food was not good and fresh
The food is always great and has a nice mix of choices. The family that owns it is very sweet. Will always go back for more!
I won't recommended for Indians.. Taste is not as original flavor..chicken briyani looks like tomato rice.. but good parking spot and better service..
Excellent food and service. We eat here often, and are never disappointed!
In the top 2 best Indian restaurants in KC (the other is Korma Sutra, Lenexa, KS).
Reliably delicious. Get the stuffed naan basket, it's amazing!
The food very very spicy buffet could be better displayed and labeld
Best Indian food in Kansas City. The Goat Curry is amazing!
I've been coming here for 10 years. The only thing that's changed is the decor. The family and taste are all still the same. Go to the buffet if you have never tried Indian food before. Its definitely worth it.
One of my favorite places for Indian cuisine
Food was fresh and delicious. Service was great
Enjoy great Indian food
Great buffet for lunch on Saturday.
All you can eat and friendly staff. They were remodeling at time and there was no many stuff on the buffet.
Good Indian food delicious and service is too good.
Oh my gosh .there food is spicy..but wonderful..the best resturant that i have ever ate at.wonderful wonderful.everyone has got to try it
Great place to get buffet fast during lunch hours. They also very promptly prepare take-out in the evenings. Good value.
Gresr food, it's probably one of the best, but nothing on seva, sorry, still loved it though, g rest service, very friendly :)
Taj Mahal is an excellent Indian restaurant with a recent and beautiful renovation. I have only ever joined them for their lunch buffet, but I cannot express enough just how good it is. I am particularly fond of their goat curry as it is difficult to find restaurants here that serve any type of goat meat - which is a tender and flavorful red meat you should try at least once. There's also plenty of vegetarian options and they make a delicious mango lassi (a flavor filled yogurt and mango smoothie).
Food is amazing and priced so well per person than other Indian food I've been to. This place never fails.
Everything was great . Everything had its own taste. Place was clean and parked for lunch, I can't say that for other places. I would go back..
1st time there, really good
Tasty food, friendly service, good prices.
Great food and a fantastic find in Kansas city
This is not the first time my son and I have eaten at Taj Mahal during the buffet menu time. We're pleased again at the variety of items on the line. The service is prompt and accommodating. Everything in the dining area is clean and appealing. There are primarily three sections on the buffet line. Salad, main and spices. We try to hit them all.
Taj Mahal is still good after all these years. The owners just recently renovated. Always give food.
Had nothing but great food and great service at Taj Mahal since we started going there more than 15 years ago. They go out of their way to make people feel welcome and appreciated. We have too many favorite dishes to recommend any single one, besides, I'd butcher the spelling. Don't be afraid to try several that are new to you. Lastly, I think it's sad that one naive reviewer can have a largely false accusation published. I can't speak to his perceived experience there, but his blatantly uninformed concept of sales tax and accusations of lying and over-charging are so wrong. Yes, Missouri state sales tax is currently 4.225%, but this business is not sitting out in rural Missouri, it is in Kansas City, where the combined state and local sales tax is closer to 9.5%. If your business is in the hotel/convention or restaurant category, you can add a couple more per cent for Kansas City.
Good taste but limited options
Been a frequent guest, but this time it didn't have the quality I expected and was used to from past visits
Bit too salty but worth it
Great food and great people! I will be visiting again!
Some of the best Indian food I have had anywhere. Excellent service and very tasty. Their Masada Chai (sweetened) is fantastic. So good that we had them cater our wedding. Everyone raved about the food, and most attendees had never or only rarely ever eaten Indian food before.
It'll be great when the renovation is done.
Been coming here for years, some of the best indian in KC reasonably priced good food
Good food and good service.
A great restaurant with authentic flavor and great naan as well.
This is my favorite Indian restaurant for lunch buffet! For about 12 dollars you can feast on all your Indian favorites! Delicious tikka masala, veggie curries, and yummy pakoras!
Although it was not our first time dining here, still it felt so different than the previous one don’t know why! Firstly, really liked the ambience inside there. We went for evening snacks. Ordered pakoras veggie, chicken both, poori, and meat samosas, masala tea. Both types of pakoras were delicious. Poori was really good too. But didn’t like the meat samosa actually inside of this samosa it was ground lamb, didn’t like the process. Again, masala tea was pretty thin and they added sugar beforehand as I don’t like my tea sweet so didn’t enjoy it. I would suggest to use more dense milk and reduce the quantity of tea to increase the quality. Wish they had home delivery option to my home so I could order snacks at evening time. Finally, I asked their buffet time it’s 11am-2pm everyday, have plan to give it a try. Staffs were overall okay at welcoming. I would call my rating as 4.5
Nice place, plenty of food even for multiple groups. I took party of 14 for lunch. They bring water and bread (naan?). This was a decent option for many of the vegetarians I have on my team. It was not super busy and they kept our glasses and bread full! My Indian staff seemed generally pleased, but nothing particularly stood out except the lack of biryani. I enjoyed most items, and finished with Kheer and golabjamon. Tasty. 14 people for buffet with tip for ~$214.
Food is always top notch and the lunchtime buffet is like a tour for your taste buds.
The food was very good with a good selection on the buffet. However when I was prepared to pay and leave they said they were having issues with their system. Asked if I could pay with cash, and I only had a debit card to pay. I waited patiently for about 10 minutes while they tried to get register(ipad) to work. I was on a lunch break so I had to go. He asked me if he could write down my card information and run it later. ABSOLUTELY NOT! So food was very good but that was about it. They should have just comped my meal and apologized for the inconvenience.
Awesome food, clean facilities, great staff!
ALWAYS great customer service and great atmosphere and food!!!
Food is good not great but I'm not a big fan of Indian food. My wife is. Service is polite but not rapid. It's not well lit. It's not particularly clean. Bathrooms are not something to visit unless you must. If you must have Indian food, by all means go.
Great people great food love this restaurant
Aiight . not like it used to be. All the people who have 5 stars have not been to many indian places. Cuz i just didnt feel it today. Many places give u mango lassi complimentary and chai. Everyone in here was drinking water. THIS IS NOT THE BEST INDIAN SPOT IN KC. FORWHOEVER HAD THAT COMMENT.
Nice place and nice Indian/Pakistani food :) Had a chance to go to the lunch buffet, missed biryani dish though. Hopefully, the management will consider to include that in the buffet items too :) Also, impressed by the newly renovated clean bath/restrooms :)
Excellent food taste... Good service ambience was average as some renovations were going...
Probably my favorite indian place in town. Clean, nice, kind staff, and the lunch buffet is always a favorite. Sometimes food is a bit inconsistent being under seasoned or old but, for the most part I have a good experience.
Buffet is awesome, huge variety!
I eat at Taj Mahal on a regular basis. I usually get the buffet, but I have also ordered take out. The food is consistently delicious and the perfect level of spiciness. Also, the owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming.
First of all this is not Indian Indian restaurant, it’s American Indian, because: 1. The food is not spicy enough. 2. No biryani. 3. They have a beef curry. Ive never seen beef in Indian restaurant. Because of all that reasons you will not find Indian people eating there.
Excellent food. I will go there weekly for the rest of my life.
Best Indian buffet around. Their Korma and tika Masala are excellent. The garlic naan is my favorite. They are remodeling right now, so probably ping to be nicer shortly. I've not been to order off the menu recently but was always great service and good food
This is my go-to India Cuisine restaurant. I usually go for lunch which is a buffet ... of course that means it won't be life changing but they seem to take great care with the food and the staff are very warm and welcoming. Every once in awhile they give me a free small Chai Tea to go which makes my day.
The food is excellent!!!
Great food, great service, great prices! I will be back!
My wife and I have been eating here for about 20 years! Now, it's our kids favorite too. We have been to nearly every Indian restaurant in Kansas City, Johnson County and Lawrence... but these guys buffet is the most delicious. The oven bread is outstanding. The chicken masala is to die for. Singh is usually our server and he does a great job. I highly recommend them and their food. I hope they're in business another 20 years and maybe they could open up a chain of stores that uses the same exact recipes??? hint... hint...
Goat curry tasted water down. No flavor at all
Very good Indian food. Overall everything could use a bit more spice but they probably dumb it down for the Americans since they cannot handle anything Authentic. We all know how they bastardize Mexican food. The lunch buffett has a very nice selection and the staff and servers are very pleasant. I will definitely return.
Always incredible! The Tikka Masala is my favorite and it's so amazing to be able to get it on the buffet. The Chai and Naan are also life changers! Best Indian food in KC!!
I've been going to Taj Mahal since 2007 (granted mostly their former Independence location, but most of the same staff and exactly the same food) and have loved everything I've ever had. It has also been my absolute go-to for introducing first-timers to Indian. Favorites are spicy tikka masala, tikka see and lamb samosas (especially with a bit of mint, tamarind and chutney inside of it) but the Korma is amazing on a chilly day too. I've been to several of the other Indian restaurants in the city and the Taj Mahals have always been the cleanest and friendliest. Lunch buffet is about the same size as every other one I've been to, but the food is much richer and more savory. I'll never not be a huge fan of this family-owned gem.
Good food low prices but need to remodel in the inside
Great food, AMAZING service. I really enjoyed everything here.
Food is lighter on the stomach than many Indian restaurants. Veggie dishes we're very fresh and all was flavorful! Both the lunch buffet and the dinner were very good. We ate here twice in one week it was that good!
Best Indian cuisine I've had in a long time.
Great Indian food in an easy buffet. Lovely family runs the place. Support our local diverse community.
I go here for lunch a few times a month, and it is typically the highlight of my day. My days are typically pretty solid just for the record.
The food is good, but the buffet hours are very short, the buffet should be all day because I like trying everything and they really don't have it on the menu, like a variety of food you can sample or try
Buffet is good, wish they would include mango drink for the price.
Good food service was a bit off
We have been a regular customer for several years and highly recommend it.
This used to be one of two restaurants I would recommend for Indian food in KC. I went here the other night, the manager took the order. When the food came it was incorrect. Instead of any apology he just stared. We started to eat and noticed that the food did not taste as it normally did. There was more of tabasco taste instead of masala. We got about halfway through the meal and realized that samosas never arrived. The service essentially stopped after we corrected the food order. The manager rang us out and read of the ticket. I informed him the samosas never arrived and he walked away during the checkout process. TERRIBLE experience this last time. Historically this place has been awesome.
Delicious food! My favorite Indian food in the area!!
Love love this place. The food is amazing!
It is nice place. I wanted to give a 4 but the taste is targeted towards Americans and I felt slightly less welcomed.
Very good Indian food! The service is awesome. Their naan is the best I have ever had. It was worth the hour long walk in the snow during a power outage
Very nice restaurant with very good food at decent prices.
This place never disappoints - always great food!
The food is absolutely amazing and the korma is some of the best in town. I would give Taj Mahal a 5 star review, but I find the smell of Windex while I eat completely offensive. Plain soap and water will do for a cleaning solution, folks. No need to permeate the air with toxic chemicals.
On first glance, this small little restaurant tucked away in a mini-mall might not get your hopes up. It is poorly lit, but clean, and the service is good. The food is the main drawing point, however. This restaurant seems to always draw a significant number of Indians, a sure sign that its serving authentic food. This doesn't mean that its too spicy; on the contrary, it was just right to my Western taste buds as well. Great choice for Indian food made right.
Newly remodeled, still same great food!
Wonderful buffet has everything I look for in food choices.
AMAZING SERVICE! The waiters are top notch and the food good.
Absolutely amazing buffet my first time and I am impressed with the flavor of the food and not too many restaurants leave me feeling happy to my tummy
The food selection is great. They use lots of modern technology. Mix the food correctly and you will be satisfied. Price is good!
My go to spot for when I'm starving at lunchtime. Quality every time. Can be busy on Saturdays and Fridays though. With the small space they're forced to allow shorter times you can be there.
A family favorite except for grand ma. Kind and thoughtful staff remembers regulars and provide some the best India cuisine in the KCMO area. Go here if you want great food. Go for lunch to catch the buffet.
Delicious and authentic!!
We have been coming here for like 10 years. It is a nice little restaurant, a family owned business, with a satisfying lunch buffet. The individual dinner entrees taste slightly better (as to be expected), but we mostly like to come here for lunch during the week for the buffet. We would be heartbroken if they ever left Waldo!
Awesome buffet. I've been to dinner only once or twice, and the portions were large and the food was good.
Just okay.
Always wonderful to here, top notch
Love this place. My food is always great, even when I try something new. Food is served hot and in a timely manner. The server makes sure your cup is never empty. Customer service is great, staff is very friendly. You are offered free dessert at the end of your meal. If I could show you my happy dance I would....Love this place!!!
My family loves this place! The quality of food can't be beat. The chicken and shrimp are cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy. Every time we eat this food it's like a flavor explosion. Comfort food to the max!! You won't be disappointed if you've been wanting to try Indian, this is the place for sure. Take out or dine in, the service can't be beat and you are supporting local!! They're a family business that treats you like family. The food is so good I'm compelled to leave a review each time we eat here.
Awesome food. Truly authentic. I am originally from India, so I can guarantee this is the best Indian food!! Name Taj Mahal suits this place due to quality. Ask the manager was very courteous to all guests.
I had their special biryani and choose the hot option. It was really good, they added chicken, lamb and shrimp so you have a variety of meat options and the portion size was fairly large as well. p.s. we went there late, and the staff waited an extra 15 minutes for us to finish our food without even letting us know that they had already closed!
We love this place. If the food isn't spicy enough or too spicy, they'll remake it for you. Not ideal to order off the menu at lunch if you're staying, but the food is so worth the wait of you have the time. Delicious, but a tad salty. We keep coming back and have been for years.
Wonderful food, amazing people! Best coconut soup I've found.
Wow! Delicious food and awesome service
Great lunch buffet, at a reasonable price. Also, you can get in and out quickly if on a short lunch break.
After months of convincing I finally managed to get my girlfriend to try Indian food. She told me that if the food wasn't good and close that she would never eat it again! I put my love of Indian cuisine in the hands of the Taj Mahal and they did not disappoint. The food all came out hot (which is always a plus in my book) and was very flavorful. A minor complaint is that the chicken in two of the dishes was a little firm as though it had been overcooked. The nan was hot and fresh. We liked it so much we took an extra order home with us. A common theme seems to be that the buffet is lacking but we wouldn't know. Try their ordered service and judge them on that. The servers were all very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Our 16 month old loved the food. We will definitely be returning.
Newly renovated. Same great food and always. Good service, best Chai tea around.
Incredibly good. The rice is phenomenal. Made sure to try their chai. Mmmmmm.
Almost $30 for 2 lunch buffets. Laughable expensive, there was no one there at lunch which is a bad sign and finally the food is only ok. The naan was ok - but that price, for lunch, is silly and we won’t be back
Excellent flavors and selection. We did the dinner for 2 and had more than enough food. From the soup to the main entrees it was wonderful!
Absolutely wonderful food .staff is polite
Loving the updates they have made inside...!
I went at the tail-end of the lunch buffet (30 minutes left) and the food was warm, but not hot. There were no dishes being put out due to the late timing that I showed up. That being said, the food was still good, but the amount of choices in the buffet was lacking compared to other Indian restaurants I have been to around the KC area. Also: nothing was spicy to me, and I have a very sensitive pallet.
The owner of this restaurant is a rude. He treats people based on skin color. It was awful experience there. The owner was keep staring at me for whole time while I was having food , which is very irritating for me. He overcharged us (charged different price than other customer) and when we asked the he said he did a mistake and he never seemed sorry for his mistake. He also told me the sales tax in Missouri is about 11% but it is 4.225% in real. This man sucks. Worst ever restaurant experience of my life.
Good service
This is our favorite place to eat in KC. We probably go almost weekly. The food and the service is amazing! ❤️
This is my family's favorite restaurant! Great food, wonderful staff, and the new renovation looks great.
Love it on lunch break all you can eat
My favorite place to eat. Food is always amazing. Staff so kind and helpful. Don't miss out on this place!
Great place to grab something anytime
Wonderful use of spices and flavor blends
Good food, tough place for kids to eat
It's the best that l know, have tried several others in the city and there's is the best.
Very well priced and large portions for what you order, the staff are really friendly.
Excellent Indian restaurant with an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Good price for what you get and you can order your preferred spiciness of dishes as well.
I'm writing this review, saddened to see this place going downhill so quickly. I took my employees there for a business lunch yesterday. Up until this visit, it was my favorite place in the waldo neighborhood. Food was always fresh and delicious, the staff was warm and inviting, and the customer service from the wait staff was hospitable and friendly. Not at all what we experienced on 1/18/2018. We got there at 1:15pm. The food was stale, and they didn't refill the buffet after about 1:40 even-though it's supposed to be open until 2:30.The young man running the place walked around like he was a body builder at the gym, carrying this tough guy persona and spoke so fast, no one in my party (of educated business professionals) could understand him. In all honesty, I usually go back and pick through some things on a second plate. I couldn't finish the first plate because I had completely lost my appetite, as had everyone dining with me. They have removed a table in the front window (which when I come here and dine alone or with a friend is where I used to enjoy sitting) and have replaced it with a used retail display where they are now trying to sell women's shoes, purses, and costume jewelry that the young man claimed was "hand made in Pakistan." I understand the attempt at generating revenue, but I found this cross promotion highly distasteful. If you want to run an apparel business, open a shop. But don't do it out of a restaurant in a fashion that has obviously taken the staff's focus off of their number one priority. Being the Taj Mahal that everyone in the Waldo neighborhood used to know as their one of their favorite restaurants in the community.
Wonderful chai tea and lunch buffet.
It was FABULOUS. service was spot on, food hot, fresh, very tasty. The owners charming. They are remodeling. Can't wait to go back.
I feel like this place has gotten better. For the lunch buffet, I used to really prefer the place on 39th street, but this is catching up. It was excellent last time I visited. I am very picky about giving 5 starts, but I would certainly call this a 4.5.
This is the worst Indian restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. We ordered chicken biryani and we were served basmati rice mixed with chicken curry. We asked the waiter about it and he said that’s how we make it. I as an Indian know how biryani is made. This is the worst!!
This place is in it's stride. No free courtesy Chai offered so you'll have to decide, but the food is worth it.
Would have given it 5 stars but the place is just a little dated, I can't say enough good things about the food and the service .
This is my favorite Indian restaurant. I travel from Lee's Summit to meet friends there almost monthly. Many wonderful veggie dishes on the buffet, plus most favorites. Everything delicious always.
Good food and great service.
Very tasty buffet and a lovely dinner option for a slightly higher price...easily one of the best Indian restaurants in town.
Much love to this resteraunt, never had a bad experience .. One of my favorites in the town
