We came in late tonight, but received good food and service. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The waitress staff seem to be respectful of each other and get along and get their job done. The food was good, I was happy with my order of chili cheese fries. My husband did make a few jokes about the biscuits not being very big but I tried the strawberry shortcake which had a good biscuit.

The only table here when we walked in at 7:25. We ordered within 10 minutes. Here we still are still waiting 25 minutes later for food and not a single other table has come in. Kids have sat with empty glasses for awhile too. We will not be back.

Slow, staff unfriendly, not attentive and rude. Waited 10 minutes for drinks then another 5-10 to be allowed to order. Food would have been good, IF it had been hot or at very least warm, everything arrived freezing cold.

Usually good comfort food. This visit one order of chicken fried steak was typical, but the chicken fried chicken was burnt. The rest of the food was good. Service was fast and friendly.

Can't say enough good about this restaurant. We are always treated with the very best customer service. All are so friendly My favorite waitress Dee Dee can't be beat! Kim is a sweetheart and Peter is tolerable! Just kidding Peter. He is great too.

The food was good once it arrived. Service very slow. The cooks couldn't keep up with 3 tables of 4 people. They ran out of mashed potatoes, and baked potatoes. We didn't have anything complicated with our order. The waitress apologized but the other customers were very unhappy. We were hoping for a quick bite and get back on the road. Next time we'll just go elsewhere.

My mom wanted homemade chicken noodle soup but they do not make the noodles so she was disappointed and thought the soup was just okay. My stepfather and I split an egg omelet and it was just warm also not hot. It was good just not hot.

We just " happened on" this restaurant one day a few months ago when going to Lawrence, where we live. We found something on their menu that some people dislike, but we like and don't find it very often- Liver and onions. The liver was thinly sliced and well seasoned. Yesterday, we were in the mood for liver and onions again, so traveled the 25+ miles from Lawrence to Ottawa. We were glad we did. Good service, generous serving, and a friendly atmosphere. Maybe I'll try something different next time, but love the liver.

Old 56 Family Restaurant is a great place to start your own morning. I have eaten there a few times when I get to Ottawa and have never been disappointed!! This last time, I needed to talk with a friend who was in a great deal of pain and asked if they could seat me someplace where I would be able to talk to her and they went out of their way to seat me in an area where they didn't even have a waitress assigned at the moment. They took my order and bought it to me very promptly prepared perfectly as I had asked. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the Ottawa Kansas area and want a great meal at a fair price with great service!!

Nice small restaurant. Friendly and fast service. The food is great and they have a great specials menu. I got the roast beef meal which comes with a small bowl of soup and huge piece of bread, and a scoop of ice cream all for under $10

Hot beef sandwich was large but full of gristle. Couldn't eat only about half of it. My wife had a fruit cup and the strawberries on it we're mold covered. NEVER AGAIN! Took $2.00 off the bill for the mold from the normal price of her dinner but it was the night special for $1.00 less than the amount that they changed us for it. In retrospect I may have been a little to harsh. It was late towards closing time when we were there but food quality is just about the most important thing to me. Ambiance isn't edible.

Excellent service. A good variety of choices. Well prepared & served. I had the vegan burger, so yummy my sister thought it was beef. She had the fish & chips. The fries looked and tasted home-made, the fish was lightly battered. Did not try any pie, but it looked delicious.

I would have liked more than one cup of water during my meal, there was only a few customers in there during my visit tonight I may just be expecting too much out of the young kids these days, but when you are earning a tip you should put effort into working for it.

Started off with an appetizer, the chicken quesadilla. It was delivered before the food which is fantastic. Especially with a hungry group of toddlers. I ordered the Philly sandwich with fries. A children's chicken sandwich and a full order of biscuits and gravy. The total came to about $45, which is not bad for the amount of food we ordered. We still had the same friendly staff, attentive service and good prices for the amount of food.

We are looking for a house in the area and thought it would be cool to swing by to check out this local joint. Little did we know to us; we would soon be an incredible burden to this establishment. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a "how many in your party?...6 ok let the waitress get caught up. I dont know if we can fit you" with shock on the hostess face....like 6 is some sort of astronomical number.... but they found a spot for us within seconds...what?!?....then our server...someone must have messed with her wheaties today. We got our order taken with attitude and yet again we felt like a burden...food came out awkwardly in strobes. I had a cowboy burger which was pretty good. But it was sided with cold onion rings. Similar story with my companions....we were all disappointed.

Stopped in here after passing through the town and have to say very disappointed in the food ordered a fish sandwich and it came very greasy and one tiny piece of triangle/fish with a huge roll and the lettuce wasn't one piece it was cut into tiny little shreds leaf lettuce. ordered strawberry shortcake and it was nowhere near the picture or shortcake it was a dinner roll you know the kind that you buy for Thanksgiving or Christmas for turkey dinner that they come 12 to $1? I basically they were microwave probably for a minute put on their backside with strawberries that were frozen and a tiny bit of whipping cream it was disgusting. ask the server why they would serve me this and she advised me that's how they come and I said well I'm very shocked that anyone would accept this as a shortcake I mean even if it was a biscuit it would have been better I've seen people pull that. I got a full refund for my food and the reason I give it to stars is hubby thought his food was okay. .

We stopped for a late lunch on our way home from a checkup at the KU Med Center. Had heard lots of great things about this place; unfortunately, reality did not live up to the hype. Mediocre food served by an indifferent manager. Next time we'll keep driving.

We ordered the strip steaks with baked potatoes. Very disappointed. The steaks were fatty and gristly, the potatoes were hard. For almost $18 per plate, seems real butter would be better for a potato than fake stuff. My fruit cup was good, though. Staff were friendly enough, although when we shared the above concerns with our very nice server, we got the impression that there wasn't anything that could be done about it. We'll be back to Ottowa again, but won't dine here.

My folks live in Ottawa...it's the only place that we'll go when dining out! There are lunch and dinner specials, a slice of nearly a dozen types of fresh-home made pies is available and the staff is always friendly. You can have breakfast at any time during the day, too! Good chicken fried steak sandwich, after which I opted for one of the custard bowls displayed behind glass at entry. An excellent choice. Where else you gonna find this?

*Excellent service, our waitress was friendly and on her game, kept drinks full, our dirty dishes clear and checked on us a few times. *The famous mocha was scrumptious *The open-face fried chicken tenderloin special was inexpensive and delicious and just as the waitress described - like an upside down pot pie with a side of yummy mashed potatoes *This restaurant has a donation bucket at the front of the store so their patrons can drop change in to pay for a veteran's food if veterans stop by and eat! So unique, I'd never heard of this before!

Nothing homemade in this restaurant. Chicken fried steak Frozen. You would do better to go down the road to the Riverside Diner where everything is homemade. And has the biggest tenderloin in Kansas

We came in on Wednesday for lunch. Our food came out fine but our hash browns were so cold. We read that your establishment was known for breakfast. Our server was a complete snot when we told her about the issue. She says I’m sorry they’re always this way. Then walked away. The way she brought our plates out baffles me. Why would you stack our toast plates on top of our omelettes? Leaving a ring on the cheese from where the plate was. She came back a few times and never acknowledged that we hadn’t touched our hash browns and took the cheese off of our omelettes “is everything okay” in the fakest voice possible. We just stare at her and she walks away. We ate our omelettes and our toast and left. The prices are outrageous. Luckily we ordered water considering coffee is almost $2. Omelettes are nearly $10. A slice of pie is nearly $5. We could go to Olive Garden or even Texas Roadhouse for prices like this and get better service than you guys have provided.

Just looked at the menu online. Wow. OVER 2 dollars for toast. TOAST. I can buy a whole loaf for that. Maybe the owner will reply and say it's made fresh. Somehow I doubt they make their own bread. 4 bucks for a side of bacon....sorry folks, but a pound and a half of wright brand bacon is 8, plus you can keep the grease. Hey, let's get breakfast. Well, after coffee and a tip that's easily fifteen bucks....unless your geriatric and get filled up on one egg and some oatmeal. Hey, look on the bright side....maybe this will force millennials to learn how to cook. Your biscuit and gravy prices roux the day.

A great place to go for some great food! Their breakfast is my favorite thing to get but the spaghetti is really good as well. Only downfall is sometimes it just seems like it's not as clean inside as it could be.
