You couldnt pay me to order food from this place again. I placed a delivery order earlier in the week and placed the exact same order the next week. The second order was $7.00 more expensive than the last. I asked for an explanation and the woman on the phone instantly got an attitude. I told her i was taking my business elsewhere. My go-to Chinese food spot in North KC! Fast, friendly, generous portions and very tasty food. Shrimp fried rice is my favorite or the Beef and broccoli. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu and it is reasonably priced. I wish they would post a menu online but overall serve standard Chinese dishes.

Most of the food is really good but but you gotta watch what you order, the Walnut shrimp for example has a crazy amount of celery and like 6-8 shrimp these are about a third of last night's leftovers so we already ate some of it, I don't know im just not much of a celery fan

Spent lots of money for terrible food. When I ordered online I entered my address and apt number. Somehow in the transaction the wrong address was printed out on their receipt. When I finally got my order it was soggy and cold. I had proof on my phone still of address I entered. They showed me their receipt showing wrong address. Ok computer glitch I understand that. I paid delivery fee driver tip and courtesy charge for a box of slimy cold Chinese food. I don’t feel it was my fault and they should of sent fresh order. So disappointed in their service and the loss of 25.00. Won’t order again not for bad food but bad service. I don’t have money to give away.

This is my local go-to for carry out and delivery. Don't be turned off by the lack of a website/menu. Kung Pao Chicken is awesome and so are the egg rolls.

Ordered carry out of chicken fried rice and egg rolls.. the egg rolls were OK but IDK, I have never gotten chicken fried rice like this before. First of all, I didn't like the onions they put in it. Maybe people are used to this, but I've never gotten chicken fried rice with onions in it and I HATE ONIONS! Then the chicken fried rice was so greasy.. the rice must have been too over cooked because everything was really mushy and greasy.. I was very dissapointed. Paying 11$ just for chicken fried rice made this way wasn't worth it.

I have been a long time customer. Their food used to be very good. However on my most recent visit, the sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken seemed over cooked. The lo mein wasn't very good either. Also I saw a sign they will be closed on Mondays.

Not sure why I haven't posted a review before now, since I visit these folks 1-2 times a month to get my fix of "Princess Chicken" and "Egg Rolls", and have done so for 5 or more years now. The people are ALWAYS super friendly and courteous, even when the store is really busy and most people would get frazzled. The food is ALWAYS delicious and the portions are ALWAYS generous. Even though there are several other take-out places closer to my home, I ALWAYS come here instead. After reading some of the reviews, I was compelled to defend what almost feels like my family. They are all ALWAYS working hard and, when I have been present, they ALWAYS seem to be extremely courteous and helpful to people on the phone and in the store. Until they go out of business or I move faraway, I won't go anywhere else. :-)

I just ordered delivery from this restaurant & as soon as the delivery man was leaving he asked me "why didn't you just order from the ironwok next door" and I told him that their restaurant (New China Star) sent me a menu in the mail so I figured I'd just order from them. He said "Well ironwok is next door" and walked away. This was my first time ever ordering from this restaurant and definitely won't be ordering from them again. You guys just made money because of me. Why tell me to take my money elsewhere? You should be thankful and not rude! I even called the restaurant to report what happened and instead of trying to hear me out he tried to rush me off the phone. I couldn’t even enjoy my food after that..

The sell out to new owners was the death of this place. The food used to be excellent and the people who used to own it were super friendly. I have still given them a chance over the last 2 years, stopping in about once every two months to get something. The food is not good any longer and heaven forbid you ask for anything other soy sauce packets because the woman up front will cop a major attitude for asking for extra hoison or sweet and sour sauce no matter the fact you just spent $25 on what now amounts to poor quality food. I will just go to panda express from now on. It might be a touch more expensive and a commercial chain, but I'd rather spend my money somewhere that the food is good. So sad this place sold to the new people. The other owners were so nice and the food was excellent then.

We order from New China Star at least 2 -3 times each month. I've been to a number of other Chinese Restaurants including those that charge much more for the food items. Not only is the food much better at China Star but the service and friendly staff have us returning. By far the best Chinese food in Kansas City.

However, when I called to place an order a second time only from the office rather than home, it was a completely different experience. Ironically I had pulled this page up to give a great review before my phone call to place the order. The same lady answered the phone but was not pleasant. She copped an attitude because we requested a lunch menu be faxed to us and she had previously, the first time we ordered, faxed a dinner menu. When ordering, she interrupted me several times and raised her voice because I wasn't understanding what she was saying/asking. She was so rude that I ended up cancelling our order all together. Because of her rudeness, I will not order from here again no matter how much I crave their general tso chicken!!

We phone order for home delivery. Everytime they deliver very quickly and have never messed-up our order. For the cost and quality of food you simply cant go wrong. Everything we have tried and, we have tried about 90% of the extensive menu, tastes fantastic. Do your family a favor and try this reastraunt. The reason for the "good, (1)" score on the decor is simply because we have never seen the restaurant. High score for food, I explained already. The high score on service is the person taking phone orders is always patient and makes sure to get our order correct. The delivery persons are always friendly.

I ordered the Country style tofu. It was hot and delicious!! So good that I was already planning to go back there, but when I hot to the bottom of my box I saw that there was a lid( to another container) in my food. I was devastated!!! I couldn't finish the food. I called the restaurant to let them know that I found a lid in my food. The woman that answered the phone said that she didn't know why it was in there and she went and got the manager. The manager was confused also and said that he had to peak with the workers in the kitchen. When he came back to the phone he told me that the lid was in there so that the box wouldn't break. I was completely disgusted!!! I told him that if that was the case they should've let me know prior to eating my food. No one wants a surprise like that in their food. It was gross. And I was disappointed because the food was so good. If they had just admitted that they had made a mistake and apologized I would've been fine. I might have even dated to go back. They offered no apology, no replacement,and no refund. I will not patronize this business again. Also I will post a picture of my food and the lid.

I just ordered from this place for the first time today, and must say damn I'm impressed. I wish I'd have known it was so close to my home much sooner. I got the the Beef and Broccoli dinner for like $7.75. It was delivered super fast and super hot. I actually had to let it set a few mins before it was cool enough to be edible, it was that freakin' fresh. And the portions! This one dinner alone is gonna be at least two meals for someone like me. Possibly more since it also came with rice in a side box.

The people at the counter are always friendly and ready to serve you. The food is good, and it is a convenient source of Chinese food for my husband and me whenever we are craving some! We have only ever gotten takeout here, so I am not sure what the dine-in service is like. It also looks like they deliver, maybe, but I guess you would have to call and ask that. It is not the prettiest of restaurants, but it seems locally and family-owned, so I am happy to support their business.

If I could give it 3.5 I would. There was nothing particularly wrong with the food, it just seems like it could be improved. We dined in and the place looks a bit run down and the seating is limited (6 booths). They have no soda machine so you either have to purchase bottle or drink tap water. On to my food. I purchased lunch special which was $6.30 with tax. I had fried rice which was very gummy almost like the rice had been old but at leasr it was hot. Other than egg the fried rice didn't have anything else mixed in. It was under salted but we just added salt. The Crab Rangoon was crispy and although I could see the cream cheese had pieces of green onion and imitation crab it really tasted like cream cheese and nothing else, usually you can taste a zing or tang at the end and this one was bland. But they were hot and crispy so points on that. The general tso's chicken was hot and crispy but it had a very weird aftertaste at the end. I couldn't put my finger on what it could have been maybe it was too much ginger or some other spice but it tasted "musty", that is the only way to describe it. Overall its just okay for quick Chinese.

Today I received a flyer from New China Star restaurant in my mailbox; then I decided to try it out for the first time. Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience; firstly it took them like 1 hour and a half to delivery my order; secondly, I ordered Chicken with Mixed Veggies(plate #: R2) and Chicken with Garlic Sauce(plate #:R6) so these two Dinner Combination Plates are supposed to be served with fried rice and spring roll, crab rangoon, instead of fried rice I got white rice and I didn't even receive the spring roll. As you can see in one of the photos, there is more veggies than chicken, it should then be called Mixed veggies with chicken and skin. Thirdly , the cover page of the flyer says: Free 1 order Crab Rangoon Purchase over $28.00 Excluding Delivery Charge, so I didn't receive that promotion item either, as my bill was like $30. I forgot to say that, at least, the appetizer I ordered was fine: HouseTray for 2. I called back to the restaurant and the guy who answered the phone said they were going to be more careful next time, he didn' t even try to fix the mistake; honestly my friend and I were so hungry after the big delay of the meal delivery that we ate some of what we got. This was my first experience at New China Star restaurant and believe me, there won't be a second one.

This is our favorite Chinese delivery. We order several times a month. The delivery is quick and the food is nice and hot. We really like the house tray and always order enough to get the free crab rangoon. Portions are generous and we generally have enough food for several days afterward, the food heats up well as leftovers, too.

I have received delivery from this restaurant for a few years and recently went in and got take-out. I LOVE THIS CHINESE RESTAURANT! I have been through many in my life and am picky. You get lots of food for what you pay. They have lunch and dinner specials. My husband is the pickiest of crab Rangoon eater's and this is his favorite. My favorite is the hot and sour soup. My kids love the noodles and chicken fried rice. This is the best north of the river.

I'm losing hope in finding a good Chinese restaurant in the Northland. Let's start with the food. I got their General Tso' chicken and Sweet & Sour chicken to go. I upgraded one to the dinner combo which came with a crab rangoon that was okay, and a spring roll that I honestly don't remember (I guess it wasn't that memorable). I really didn't care for the flavors of either dish, but more so on the sweet & sour chicken. Both tasted better cold the next day and for that reason I considered giving them 3 stars, but I would never see myself buying their food just to put it in the fridge for later. I will say that the quality of the chicken was fine which was nice to see. They should just convert the restaurant to a to-go or delivery place. Not sure why a ladder was in the dinning area, but if not being used, put it away. To the left of the counter is a sad fish tank that is not doing it's job of hiding all of the stuff beneath it that is being used as storage. I also wasn't sure why there was a tray of fried chicken wings on the dinning table next to the fish tank. Is the chef going to finish preparing this protein at a booth? It sat there the entire time I walked in, looked over the menu, ordered my food, and finally left with my meals.

I Love this place. I always have a menu that is usually tucked into the paper. Delivery has always been prompt and friendly. Prices are in the mid range. The food is great. I have never been disappointed. On occasion a lady that answers the phone is a bit short but who hasn't had a bad day now and then. She seems to calm down and be patient when i let her know that i am very hard of hearing and ask her to please let me know if i am speaking to loud or if she can't understand me and that i would not be offended. With that in mind she slows her speach down for me and there after she becomes pleasant as her usual self. This is the first and quite probably the only time i have rated a resturant.

For fast Chinese food this is a great little spot. The restaurant is set up for pick up or delivery but you can eat in. If you do fine in you'll be eating off of styrofoam plates and plastic forks. It's affordable and decent.

We did take out here. My son used to go there a lot. I like a bit more seasoning than what they give.

I ordered egg drop soup, crab rangoon, and sesame chicken with white rice. The crab rangoon actually had crab or at least imitation crab, which is surprising. Most places charge for crab rangoon and just give you cream cheese wontons. Everything was delicious. The food arrived in 40 minutes which is reasonable at the dinner hour. The person delivering my food was friendly. My new favorite Chinese place! I would post a picture but...Er...um...I ate it all.

Like other reviews on here, I will agree that the lady is rude. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, it was okay. The crab rangoons were pretty bad, maybe some of the worst I've had. The filling is just plain cream cheese, couldn't taste or see any seasonings in it. Not very crisp, rather soft. I like that the wonton soup's dumplings were so big - usually restaurants make them a little smaller. But, they lacked any flavor whatsoever. I would not order from here again.

Fast, Cheap, Hot and tastes good. For 5.75 you get a huge lunch made fresh. I have to let it sit for 10 minutes after I get home it's so fresh. People complaining about the owner? Walk in she is so sweet and friendly. I get exactly what i expect from a run it the mill Chinese joint. I'm a regular now.
