REVIEWS OF Korean Restaurant Sobahn IN Kansas

The food is amazing and the chef came to our table to help me order gluten free. She even made a gluten free sauce for me and it was fantastic!!!

Nandulal MacMillan

Some of the best vegan food I've had. Love this place!

Russell M

Very clean place, outstanding food and good sized portions, and very very very excellent service! The food was hot and served very quickly. I was stationed in Korea and this place is way better than most places in Korea!! Server was very friendly!

Laurie Johnson

Great authentic Korean food. Servers always helpful to answers any questions. Love the assorted side Kimchee dishes Banchan.

Great place with great food

TD Cackler

Great place!

Travis Wright

Man, this food was amazing. If you like korean food then try this place.

Nilyum Jhala

Authentic. Do some research if it is your first try at Korean food so you know what you are ordering.

Ho Kim

In LA, you can eat twice as much for the same price. Also twice more delicious.

Rachael Iden

Friendly and great service for our very large group of 9 people. The fish pancake was good but greasy and the my cast iron bowl was extremely hot where I couldn't eat my food for twenty minutes. Big a chair pad because the wooden chairs hurt after sitting in them for more than an hour. The mackerel was good but salty.

Kyle Weber

If you want Korean food, and lots of it for a great price. This is IT!

Nancy Steinacker

Enjoyed fried dumplings and bibim bap. Flavorful food and good service. We'll go back more often because it was such a good experience.

Peter Pakdel

Great food. If you like Korean food this place doesn't disappoint.

Malissa Ward

Ratings are preferences. Liked the food, but didn't love the food. Little pricey, but its a little closer for me than Choga... which I love.

roby rai

One of the best Korean restaurants I've been to here in KC. They've got good food, good ambiance and good servers. Those soups that come with fish are delicious. And, it is fairly priced as well.

Alex Marban

Food is excellent, service is great. The restaurant is also cute.

Dennis Leung

Great food but don’t go there when it is busy! Great Korean food but typically there is only one servers, and when it gets busy, service quality decreases.

Mark Benfer

Always great food!

Hyeran Jo

Very authentic and clean Korean food. You are gonna love the food. :)

Prescovie Anderson

Absolutely love everything I've gotten so far!

Deb Jordan

Fantastic Korean food. Great service.

larry evans

A group of 5 of us had a delightful dinner. They were packed on Wednesday night. 3 of us had steaks and 2 seafood. Steaks were great quality and cooked to perfection. Craft Beer and wine selection was very good. Desserts were great. Definitely recommend.

Clint Mayes

Ordered Gimbap and Bokkeum Bop- fried rice and it was excellent. First time trying Korean cuisine and must say I will return.

HJ K

Excellent food

charles woodburn

Amazingly good food and service! I especially recommend the potato pancakes!!

Lee Vang

Really good food. Menu is a decent size. Good customer service, very courteous. It's my go-to Korean food place.

Darryl Descourouez

Great service, very helpful with the menu.

Sugar_Bagel

Really good food and nice employees

Jeff Carnal

Soo good. My favorite korean place in KC. Not a bbq place, i have been there 4 times and dont remember table grills. Great food and service

Samantha Yang

Went there yesterday with my husband. We went to two other Korean places and this place is the best ! Who doesnt like free refills on their side dishes?! The side dishes are really good ! The food was bomb. You couldn't ask for more ! They bring out the food fresh and I just love biting into it knowing its gonna be hot and ready for me. The server was really great even though she was the only one so the service is a little slow but that shouldn't affect anything. You must try this place. We will be coming back with my baby in a month or two. P.s. the portions are really good! Kimbap roll for 7.99 we were expecting only 7 pieces wrong ! We got probably 3 rolls for 7.99 that's really cheap. But I ain't complaining .

Kevin Zhu

Extremely good kimchi. Bibimbap was on par with the kimchi

Shay Bennett

terrible food. Non authentic. They are rude as hell. Food was cold. And $2 for a can of coke is a little ridiculous.

Dev Jenks

An excellent dining experience. Went with the wife for dinner here on a Friday night. We had the kamja tung, which is my standard for grading Korean restaurants. The food was really good, but they subdued the spices, probably for local tastes. The decor set a perfect atmosphere for relaxing dining. The service was friendly and courteous. Highly recommend.

Pat Kaspshak

Heads up to foodies... Tell the waiter how spicy you want your food. The is the third time the waiter told the kitchen to make our food mild. So if you are a Caucasian like me tell them you want you food with regular heat, NOT MILD.

Lei Royale

The customer service is amazing. They can provide you with utensils that are not chopsticks. If you don't like a food you can get a different one and, they give you more banchan.

Jahania Pena

Good food a bit expensive

Damiyr Leonard

Korean cuisine is my favorite, and this is the only place I've been able to find so far in the KC metro area. I tried a standard bulgogi and was not disappointed at all.

Christopher M Overton

I added the extra star because they are more obscure and offer excellent bibimbap in a hot stone bowl. Sobahn offers Seoul centric Korean cuisine. Great food and excellent service.

Pamela Willis

I wasn't expecting to find really good Korean food in Kansas, but here it is! The fried dumplings were delicious and all the starters were also fantastic. I had galbi for my main course, and while the flavor was fantastic, the meat was a little fatty for my tastes. I will definitely be back to try some more dishes! If you're in the area, give it a try!

Kelii Kanoa

Ordered takeaway. Food was great. BBQ beef short ribs was tender. Japchae had good flavor. It is on the pricy side though. I feel this would be a place to go to every couple months.

Ankush Pandit

I am a vegetarian and I tried their deep fried tofu with sweet and spicy rub and it was awesome. I visited this place with my team and others seem to like their food as well. Also try their tea if you are visiting on a cold day.

Alexa Molter

Waitress was terrible and food was ok. Very bad service.

Wasula Kankanamge

Very good atmosphere and good food. Dumpling soup was great!

Michael Ehrler

This place is pretty cool. The solid wood chairs are neat. The food is excellent prepared traditional Korean food, very yummy. And they have Kirin and Sapporo!

Sette Wagner

The restaurant is clean, and the atmosphere is great. We had to wait for our food, but it wasn't a big deal because they served us the appetizer first, and whenever they saw us finish it they served the free side dishes. The servers were friendly, attentive and quick to bring food. Food is authentic South Korean, and we loved it. I ordered kimchichigae (spicy stew/soup) & my husband got some type of marinated thin strips of beef called galbi (not spicy at all) & kimbap for appetizer. Both meals came with hot sticky rice. Price isn't very cheap, but reasonable for Korean food in US.

Brandon Norris

I've never had Korean before and I was blown away! The food was excellent, my pork dish was phenomenal, and the service was quick! I really can't believe I haven't been here before, and instant classic!

Shawn Bones

I don’t think that we ordered the right dishes. But my co worker and I did order the exact same dish and each received something different. Not knowing what they were, it was quite he surprise, but joy very tasty.

Paula Walsh

The spicey pork and vegetable is amazing. They have a great weekday lunch menu. The resturant is cozy and clean. The staff curious and prompt.

Sarah Fanning

Delicious food with great vegetarian options! The dubu steak is some of tastiest tofu I've ever had.

Liz Pearson

Very nice. Good service and good options.

Eloisa Medina

My first time eating Korean food and it was great! I will be back!

Niluja Singh

Best Korean food option in KC area... Its the cutest lil cozy place with very good service

Darin Short

I spent 12 month stationed in Korea. Bim bim Bop has always been my favorite dish that is just too hard to find here in the USA. This place is flat out AMAZING!!! It is well worth the extra $1 to have the dish prepared in the cast iron skillet ! The only bummer for me is that I didn't find this place sooner.

amjad abaalkhail

Authentic delicious Korean food! I will be back soon for sure!

Sy Kim

Love the place. Good service and good Korean food. They are the real deal. The only knock I have for giving them 4 and not 5 is the wait time for your food can take some time. I understand that they do not want to pre-cook and wants most food stright off the stove but when in a time crush this place will not work for you. On the other hand if you have some time and want to enjoy some good ole Korean food. This is the place to go around the KC Metro.

Sheep Dog

Quality of bulgogi meat not nearly as good as Choga. I have ate at many Korean restaurants and the side dishes were not tasty (bland).

Dennis Dressler

Everything is so right, laid back with incredible food dumplings, seafood pancakes, soups, love this place

Ellie Brimer

Wonderful shop owner very helpful. No one made me feel out of place.

Damian J. Propes

The closest thing to my mother's cooking. Amazing!

Lisa Moeller

Excellent as always!

Jaron Nielson

Wonderful food, great prices. Nice staff and very quick.

Frank Magrone

Delicious food, good prices, quick service.

Alexis Bui

Their service isn't to awesome. The server doesn't know how to count because we had six people and they kept giving us four cups or plates. Food was okay, but If you want true Korean food I recommend choga.

Sue Kim

Food taste good but service is extremely slow...

Kayla Michaelson

Delicious Bibimbap and very friendly service! However the wait time was terrible! We waited an hour just for our appetizer of five dumplings. I would go back but I would make sure I didn't have my baby and I'd give myself a good hour and a half to two hours.

Andrew Vest

Solid food, service needs help. I liked it a lot.

Prasad Saraph

Awesome Korean food...

Sarah Bean

The food is really good. Dinner is a too pricey. But the food and environment are awesome.

Antionette Hernandez

First time there...Food was delicious

Michael Kricsfeld

Always tasty! I go for lunch, and there is only 1 server, but the food comes out quick, hot and delicious! very reasonable prices. Food comes with hot corn tea and side dishes.

Lee Harper

Great food, at a reasonable price.

Justin Noggle

This is one of our favorite lunch spots. The atmosphere is relaxing, the service precise, and the food extraordinary.

Stephen Reddekopp

Absolutely delicious. The lunch specials are very tasty and well priced. I also always enjoy the rice dishes served in the hot stone bowls.

Dexter Acsenvil

Good spot for tasty Korean BBQ! Love the bi-bim-bap here. Delicious! It's on the pricier side for food but definitely worth it! Wait is usually not long, but you can call ahead to make a reservation just in case.

Angie Brown

I ate an appetizer with my daughters and was awaiting my check to be picked up. The waitress was talking to an older guy for a while so I stood up to let her know I was ready...after having waited for an unnecessary amount of time. I did not leave a tip when I paid. I selected on the key pad "no tip". She ran after me and said "you didnt leave me a tip!". I know I didn't. I couldn't believe it! Who does this....? I will select another korean restaurant next time.

cole cerv

Came in at lunch to a quiet restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly. Food was excellent, the duk mandu was done fairly traditional with a tasty filling. The kimchi dol sot bap had tender and flavorful pork and was just the right amount of spicy. All in all a great korean restaurant.

Jessica Matthews

Food was tasty, but ended up w/ a sour tummy - my partner and I both actually. I think it was the egg, so I don't really blame them.

Jason Bland

Delicious Korean dishes! Bipimbap and Bulgogi are fantastic. I recently traveled to Seoul and was looking for authentic dishes in KC and I found it. The lunch specials are slightly smaller portions (and cheaper) with 2 sides while dinner portions are bigger and have 5 sides.

John Winget

Went for dinner, was good but didn't leave feeling like it was 5 stars. Wasn't bad for the price.

T P

Good authentic place with great service. I'd go back for sure.

Ahadul Kabir Muyeed

For someone who appreciates value, Korean food will always disappoint. That being said, Sobahn offers the best experience in Overland Park. Better food can be had 35 miles west at O'Cafe.

joshua stadler

The food was very tasty and fresh. The food came out hot, to hot for me. I had to let it cool down first. The spicy pork was not as spicy as I would have hoped for but probably plenty spicy for most. The meal came with traditional fermented vegetable. 3 types of kimchi, some sprouted beans, and some weird fish thing that was actually pretty good and not too fishy. I would recommend this place to others and will be back for more.

Philip Bradshaw

My wife and I love the food here. She is fairly picky about her Korean food, and believes that the flavors here are the best.

Allison Wenzel

The food was fantastic but service was very slow. There was only one server for the entire restaurant.

Carl Ricke

Great food but extremely inattentive service. We spent half the meal waiting to be seated, for the server to take our order, for more water (which we never got), for the check, for the check to be taken, for the check to be returned, etc... While we were waiting for the check another couple came, waited a while to be seated, then gave up waiting for the waiter to take their order and left.

Nifemi Fadahunsi

Service is so bad, seems like they are rushing us out. Will never go back ever again.

Brantley

Very good food and reasonably priced. Also kind enough to call me to return a missing wallet. Cannot recommended more!

Amy Gallagher

Very good food and service! I enjoyed everything I tried

Wayne Hackworth

Korean restaurant in the city! They have variety of traditional Korean cuisine that I really do not know where to start from. I finally ordered their very own kimchi dol sot and it was so delicious! Didn't have any regrets eating here.

천준범Michael

Authentic Korean food but slow serving due to lack of servers

NP D

great food but needs a decor update

Jimmy Fickbohm

Hands down, the absolute best Korean food in Kansas City. I'm pretty particular about my Korean food, as is my family. I can say that without a doubt, Sobahn's dishes are always excellent as is their service. Members of my family frequent Sobahn several times a month, always a good experience. I usually get the Kim-chi Jigae, Dukbokki or Bi Bim Bap (In the hot bowl).

Hyunsook Visscher

Their hot soup are very good!❤

Jackson Li

We two were not hungry so just ordered a soup ($17). However, I don’t think this is the reason they did not serve any small dishes. What’s more, the lady never came back to us after throwing the soup on our table. I will never come back to this restaurant again, because obviously they don’t need my business.

Laiza Avery

Wonderful place to dine. I love the décor and the atmosphere of the place. Food was delicious I had the kimchi stew with beef. Overall positive experience will definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

JaRocc linder

The kimchee pancake was on point.. Ordered the pig feet.. The dish was outrageously good.. Service was prompt despite having a nice lil crowd and only 1 waitress.. Very courteous service.. No complaints here

Hai Dao

Not too good not to bad...

Rebecca Pankratz

My husband and I have been to Sobahn twice already! The kimchi jjigae was perfect for a cold wintery evening. The dish was spicy but not enough to hide the flavors. The 2nd time we visited, I had the dolsot bibim bap. This is the one served in a hot stone bowl. Talk about delicious! The crackling sound of the ingredients against the stone bowl, the presentation of the ingredients, and the taste combined into a delicious meal. The banchan side dishes are all very good! The kimchi tastes just like mom's used to!

Maryanne Morata

Was excited to try out a new Korean restaurant, but when my fiancé and I arrived at a restaurant, no one (hostess nor the waitresses) greeted us the whole time. (15 minutes or so) There were few empty tables, so it wasn't packed or anything. Finally someone saw us and said they were about to seat us. We waited another 5 minutes, but she never came back so we just left. Didn't expect much for the service if we stayed there anyways. Maybe we'll go back there when it's "less" busy.

John Wires

Choga and is a better. The flavor in the soups and dry dishes lacks a kick and pure flavor. This is from trying all 3 korean places in overland park. Plus its a bit pricey.

David Rodick

The hot water in the bathroom will burn you, the sink was clogged, and they have napkins for paper towels--which obviously disintegrate when wet. When you sit down you have no option but attractive but hard, uncomfortable wooden chairs. The rest of the environment is attractive, however. They do have a good vegetarian selection and very well priced lunch specials 11-3 M-F. The food is delicious and worth the visit.

Nil Pradhan

Food is awesome ..service is slow though

Kelly McGranaghan

Wonderful staff, great food. I will definitely be back!

Mark Hamby

Nice place. Kimchee soup for lunch was delicious.

Micah

Food is super tasty. Service is nice. Good atmosphere.

Joseph Lawhorn

The food was ok. The service was ok. The price was ok. The environment was ok. There wasn't anything great or terrible about it. The albap (bibimbap with kimchi and fish eggs) is my favorite dish from here, but I found the bulgoggi to be overly expensive for the quality and portion size.

Danny Mak

i have to say, as far as korean food in kansas city area goes, this is probably the best you'll get. I come from a background of korean food in Dallas, Texas where there are a ton of koreans and this restaurant would be considered very average. But here in Kansas compared to the other places i've tried like kobi Q and Cho Sun BBQ this place seems to be your best bet. Ive only tried their kimchi soondubu here so far but seeing as how that is a very standard dish i can tell the rest of the food's reputation from this single dish. I've had the best of the best in seoul, korea, ive had pretty damn close food to that in korea town in Dallas. This is definately a far stretch from the best, but relative to this area, its the best we've got.

Tony Kays

Excellent food. So worth giving into temptation on my way home (I'm trying to limit eating out). Was a little worried when I saw the lack of business on a Thursday night but a few more came in after me. Was seated fairly quickly, I found the staff fairly attentive checked in on me before ordering and a few times throughout the meal. I ate a pork kimchi soup which was still bubbling when it came out they don't lie about the jjigae(soup name) description about how it's prepared. Decently spicy will inquire if they have something more spicy next time. Also had some vegetable porridge that was equally good in a different manner.

Rob Graetz

Great Korean food, good service. Dolsap Bibim Bap is awesome!

Han Lee

Good place to enjoy Korean food in rural Kansas area. Calm and quiet place, good food, but a little bit pricey.

R Mack

A reall special family owned business. Excellent décor/ambiance. Delicious eats. You won't regret it! Try the korean BBQ, Bibimbap, Jaeyuk!

Justin Crossman

I grew up on Korean food from a Korean mom. This food was absolutely fantastic. Staff is super friendly and quick. Portions are the perfect size with a taste that leaves you wanting to come back.

Hammad Ganatra

Fantastic Korean restaurant. One of the best I have been too. Eaten multiple times over there and everything on the menu is delicious. Staff is very attentive and accommodating if you need to make modifications based on dietary preferences. Make sure you try the Bibim Bap!

Jili West

Came here quite often, tho sometimes the service is really slow, but I’m trying to understand because I always came in busy time. But overall the food was always delicious. My favorite are yukgaejang, tteok bokki, kun mandu, bulgogi.

Catherine Boston

My daughter and I come here alot and normally its great, a little slow. But great servers. This time my daughter tried something new and the squid was to hard to chew, so we asked if we could pay for chicken in the same dish. But was told there was nothing that could be done. Made me feel as if they thought we were trying to get over, that hurts. Last visit.....

rwthurber .

Food was good, portion size was extremely small and a little high on price for a Korean restaurant. Server had no personality and didnt offer to refill anything. Such a disappointment compared to the restaurant that was there in the 90's and early 2000's

Azakarian Zakarian

A little more expensive then a regular night out..but WORTH IT! Korean food. Great tastes! So VERY yummy. Romantic ..creative dinning. Try the Korean pancakes! Or there is a meal that comes servedin a stone bowl..and they crack and egg on top. It is so yummy! I recommend this place for special times!

Chris Elliott

Great Korean food. Large menu

vandrosia

I came here for lunch today and had the bulgolgi and sobahn bibim bap (rice with vegetables and fried egg). They charged me extra for two infant-sized bowls of rice. There was only one waitress and she forgot to refill my drink during the lunch rush. The bulgolgi should've been called bubble-gum steak because after chewing the meat for two minutes, it still hadn't dissolved so I figured maybe I could blow bubbles with them. I don't mind paying $31 for lunch but preferred to eat something edible instead of being nickel-and-dimed for crappy food. First and last time that I'll eat here.

Wesley Brown

Love this place any time I'm in Kansas City I make sure to eat here

Genessis Lopez Mendoza

D e l i c i o u s !

Gail Frailey

Not as good as it used to be

Chad M

Good food and service but come with a Time to kill. Everything is made from scratch and takes awhile for food to be available.

Anil Pant

Probably the best Korean food that I’ve eaten in KC area.

Luan Luu

Delicious seafood pancake appetizer! Definitely worth a try. Yummy Korean cuisine.

김철호

The taste of food is excellent, specially. GALBI and DENJANG JIGAE. It is not a pure korean, but closed to the origin.

Joseph Yeow

All of the 3 stars go to the taste of the food. Unfortunately, none for service. One server does it all is not going to work regardless. We waited 10 mins to be seated, another 10 mins to order and 45 mins before getting our meal. Don’t even hope about server checking back. I ordered the kimchi pork stew and it was probably the best I’ve had in KC. Combination between the sour and spicy ness made it a great tasting meal.

David Kenna

Outstanding service and great tasting food! Would highly recommend eating here over Chosun BBQ. The server is very good and attentive. I been eating Korean food for 36 years and this is the place to go in KC.

Rachel Vauthier

I love love love Sobahn! The staff is always so friendly and it has such a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve never had anything bad here. I also love their vegetarian options. The yachae jeon is great!!

Paul Stubitsch

The food is always extremely well prepared and delicious. Great lunch spot.

Fernando Quiñones III

First time visiting this Korean restaurant and I must say it was pretty good! All of the employees were very friendly and courteous, the restrooms were clean and well kept, and the food was delicious. I'm definitely looking forward to returning.

Flintlock

Excellent!

Jack Lie

Original Korea style

Dan Rosenthal

Best server Joonoh very friendly and helpful. Good food

P S

Love the food and the servers are always very friendly and attentive.

Kathryn Carlson

Very good! Husband is family with all the dishes and loved them.

Kelli Welch

Great food, but be prepared to wait for it. Don't come to Sobahn if you're in a hurry. The food is prepared fresh when you order it, including stews, so it will take some time to arrive at your table. But once it does, you'll see why. This is old-fashioned, homestyle food, made from scratch. It's delicious and satisfying, and if you're a fan of Korean food I would highly recommend it!

Tina Yee

all time fav korean restaurant.

Kathy Nokes

Great food great side dishes wonderful ambience fast service. My favorite place to go when I'm in town.

Connor Fender

Great food, slow service

Sarah Kupka

One of my favorite Korean Restaurants in the area. They keep their menu up to date with the best & most popular Korean dishes. The only thing that bothers me is that they do run out of some of the popular dishes quite a bit (like dumplings & kimbap), so if you don't get there early you may not get any.

Samantha Brown

Its a very nice place they were very attentive to the large group that we had (13 people). It was a great experience and wonderful time would highly reccomend.

Tej Dhawan

Great authentic food. Love the accompaniments (side dishes)

Wendy Smith

OMG my favorite restaurant, anywhere. Best Korean food in Kansas City/Shawnee Mission.

fresh clout

service is very slow. we waited more than 10 minutes just for drinks.

Paul Horel

Food pretty good Service excellent, but no atmosphere. Sort. of like eating in a warehouse.

Marcus Van Ginkel

Amazing food. Kimbap appetizer was great as well. Highly recommend

Andrew Kim

Food was good, but there was only one waiter and one cook. So service was very slow.

Sanghee Moon

I visited here three times here. The first two visits about two years ago were horrible because my fiancee and I ordered two dishes and waited like more than 1.5 hours to get my food on my table. I visited here last week since one of my friends wanted to eat some Korean foods. This time I was pretty satisfied. I ordered seafood soft tofu soup, which was great. Side dishes were pretty authentic. On top of that, they served the foods very quickly!!

Jason Shar

It's usually pretty quiet. Sometimes service is a little slow but the food is really good.

Scoutk Bartholomew

One of my favorite Korean restaurants but it is also the closest one to me. I haven't had many things on the menu but the mackerel is phenomenal. Love the sides that come with your meal. Please note, some meals do take time, so be patient.

joel yocom

Excellent food

Tyrone Groves

Best Dolsot Bibimbap in town hands down

Andrew Ayala

Very good food. I ordered kimchi with pork and rice and it was one of the best dishes out there. I also tried one of their soups and also very good. Affordable. Service wasn't great but we came pretty late. I would definitely go back.

JT Snae

The food was excellent. So was the presentation. The atmosphere was nice. The music was a little odd. The service was very friendly and apologetic for the wait time on the food. Some may have docked a star for the slow serve time but I wasn't in a hurry and the waitresses came to my table many times to ensure I was ok.
