WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. When we got there we got sat down fast which was good. But then we had to move tables. Then our server gave us water but never came back again to ask us for more water or anything. She would just pass by us when we tried calling her. When we ordered our food it took more than half an hour THEN when we asked about it they said they were JUST MAKING IT!! they forgot about us! We just walked out. Didn’t even EAT. I’m usually very patient but this was ridiculous.

The place has really undergone a lot of changes in recent months and ALL of the for the better. It’s been renovated and they’ve made and AYCE menu that is very good. It’s the only AYCE KBBQ in Kansas City. The influx of new customers due to the AYCE is definitely causing some growing pains for the restaurant but I can already see improvement having been there 2 times. If you do the AYCE get the LA Galbi, rib meat and marinated sliced pork!!

Very authentic restaurant. The food is great, I only wish they were able to communicate more on how classic Korean restaurants serve food. It can be a little chaotic for newcomers and possibly off-putting. Great for people well versed it Korean dinning, otherwise bring someone who is familiar so they can guide you.

food wasn't bad. service was worse than Taco Bell. the owner refused to give me a drink for 45min because she wasn't feeling good. the other only server there told me to my face she "no English" then walked away. my food took 2 hours to come out. it was 7:30pm on a Sunday night and there were only 3 dishes ordered.

Just a warning this place is as close to Korean food as u can get and its not for those who are not in to truly authentic Cruisin asian dishes. I would recommend looking at the menus first and research them ahead of time then come in prepared for a good experience all has to offer. For those who are looking for a absolute Korean dish not too Americanized and altered to American taste standards than this is the place to go because this place is everything u can ever get from real Korean food! :-)

HORRIBLE SERVICE WITH A OLD KOREAN LADY! I've had food there before it was great. On the other hand the service with this old Korean lady is just the worst! You have to constantly tell her "I want only vegetables and tofu" she responds back "No you can't have tofu!" She puts her tone high and treats you like an idiot. We have had tofu there before replacing the meat in dishes. For some reason with her it's impossible. Today was the worst! She brings out the dish with tofu and meat in it when we tell her we did not want meat in it. She uses our spoon and takes out the meat and comes back. She tells us "What's wrong there is not meat now" What the heck!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????? I'm not a vegetarian but we have certain rules to follow when it comes to our religion. We have had the same dish with tofu and without any mix-up. With her it's impossible she always gives us in attitude and ignores anything we say. To make it clear she once did serve us the same dish without the meat and tofu instead but she slams the dish on our table, and walks away before we can say anything. Choga we love your food but we hate the service we get with that old lady. Sorry but we never plan to come again.

I had never eaten Korean food prior to going here. I am now a fan! I had the BiBimBap, and it was excellent. We arrived just before the lunch rush (11:45), and the service was very fast, although I had a little trouble understanding the waitress's English. I will definitely be going back.

Speaking for combo beef meal, there is difference between the menu and actual meal. The menu showed 4 types of beef, but actual was 3 types. I suggest you to ask see if the menu and actual meal match....... that was my biggest disappointment.

Quite overpriced for the quality. If you are American and have never had Korean food you may enjoy this but if you have any standards for how things should taste you will be disappointed. Food is poorly seasoned (bulgolgi and bibimbap...:( both very poorly prepared), kimchi is not very good, side dishes are minimal, service is slow and beef is VERY expensive.

I never leave bad reviews for restaurants, but this place really pushed my patience. We had the AYCE and right away the service was slow from the get go, got to our third refill of two meat choices and received only one. Then didn't receive any service for about 40 minutes, no food and no water. This place automatically charges gratuity so there's no way of holding them accountable. It wasn't even super busy, they literally just bring out water and plates with frozen meat, there's absolutely no reason for the waiting time to be so long. I wish I would of listened to the bad reviews, so don't make the same mistake I did, unless you like being completely ignored for long periods of time and slow service.

I’m not a review person, and this is my first review on google. It’s hard to explain how bad the dining experience was. Been to many kbbq places and this is not one of the worst cause it is the worst. Extremely bad service from the owner looking lady. I had to ask for adding water every single time, and the only thing came to my table without asking was the check, which includes 18% of tips with out even telling us. Food quality is just average and not worth the money you pay. Every thin sliced meat were coming out frozen. They charge for almost everything besides basic side dishes without letting you know in advance. I didn’t realize they even charged for white rice until I checked my receipt. They charged 18% tips on the total check amount, and under their check it asks you to pay tips again, which will add up to your previous paid amount. If I didn’t check these details I might paid tips twice. For the extremely bad service from the owner-looking lady, I wouldn’t even pay for the first 18%. If I can give a zero star I will definitely do it.

The tables and the chairs were in bad condition (atleast in the other rooms, away from the main area). The manager or the boss did not care when my dad fell on the floor because of their messed up chairs. They only tried to make it up with a plate of dumplings (about 7 dumplings), which is ridiculous because my dad was already in a bad state. A proper apology would have been more accepting than a plate of dumplings. Their spicy galbi or ribs barely had any meat in them. It was literally 70 percent bone and 30 percent meat. I would recommend this place if you do not regularly eat Korean food, but for those who do, it's nothing better than what you are eating at home or any other Asian restaurant. Never coming back here again.

currently at around $25/per person you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ buffet so expect a more lively place. the dishes were pretty good for the price. if you truly want to take your time and enjoy the experience, my only advice is to not come 1-2 hours before closing time for there is a time limit of 2 hrs until you're forced to close out your check. if you're those people that come within an hour of closing, (btw you shouldn't do that anywhere) they will give you your check by the time they close. *Tip of the hat* to the restaurant, I recommend to anyone who likes bbq and grilling experience.

Major disappointment. Was excited to hear that there was an unlimited korean bbq resturant so I had to try it out. Service is absolutely terrible, the staff was lazy and rarely came by the table and the quality of the food is humorous. They actually brought out meat that was frozen. The staff was attentive and kind. The prices were on par with the wonderful quality of food. The selection of soju was smoother and better than I expected. The new all you can eat buffet was pretty great, and they had a decent selection of meat. Only thing I didn't like was they added on a $20 service fee on top of the stated price, which I just found annoying. Their soups are amazing and I love their Soon Tofu. I highly recommend visiting them and trying their regular menu.

This is my favorite restaurant by far. This is where my girlfriend and I went on one of our first dates and continue to go here for special occasions. We always get a booth and get our meat grilled at our table and are never disappointed in the quality or taste of the food. The service is sometimes a little slow when it's a full house, but that is to be expected during busy business hours. The food is always well worth the wait in our opinion.

Just had lunch here with the most beautiful woman..the absolute one and only biggest love of my life... We love this restaurant.. they have an amazing wait staff and the cooks never dissapoint with the Kalbi and tasty sides. My fiance and I would marry Choga if it would only say yes. However I was not pleased with the lack of side dishes, this is not truly reminiscent of a Korean restaurant, the slow service, or the 18% mandatory gratuity charge. This is typical of dinner parties over 6 at least, I was in a group of 3.It was set as a "group service fee" but for that, I would expect either more hands on work from the servers or maybe more side dishes or fuller sides. The service was very basic and not worth the 18%. I thought that was too much. I will go to another restaurant and hope for the best. I might not come back to this one.

Food is great, but service still needs some improvement. There was a wait list sheet customers signed because it was packed, but the host and servers kept losing the sign in sheet. Customers would have to find workers to talk to when asking for seating. Seemed to be low on staff. Waiters only came to refill water once. We had a table of 4 but was only given to bowls of rice because they had to cook more. We asked for more rice at least 20 minutes later but none was given still. I hope service can improve at least a bit, because Korean bbq is an awesome experience everyone should have!

Our mistake was ordering an Appetizer thinking it was a main Entree' because of the price. The dish which is traditionally served hot arrived at the table straight out of the refrigerator. The dish ordered normally has multiple accoutrements that are intrinsic to the meal but they were not offered. When we asked why this was we were told by the hostess: "That is what you ordered and that is what you got." We tried to order to a second dish but were required to pay for the first dish first. We left with our cold food in a kagogi bag. Overall the restaurant was more interested in a single large group of Chinese tourist than helping 2 hungry locals.

I am writing this and hopefully the owner can see and think why there have been more negative reviews than before. So I have been craving for pork belly BBQ for a while and came to Choga since it is relatively closer than the other K BBQ places. I have been here before for a few times but always with friends. This time I came along. I was wondering if they would only open the grill table for two or more like some of the other K BBQ restaurants, and it turned out that it is the case here too. I get that although it has always been my preference to do the grill on my own. So I ordered pork belly from the menu, and to my surprise, a $17 plate came up with a total disappointment. 1) The pork belly is wayyyyyyyy over grilled as if it has been fried. The fat is completely gone which should have been part of the essence for grilling pork belly. The meat is hard and dry and barely tasteful. 2) The onions that came with the grill however, are completely raw. I mean, I do not expect fully grilled onion but being completely raw is just intolerable. 3) The portion is small, given that the charge is $17 before tax. Many other reviews have mentioned this as well. I mean, I have not been here for a couple of years and what happened here? I tried to ask about the all you can eat BBQ but of course just like regular grill table only good for two or more. I do not think I will come back again.

Daniel was our server. We were really wowed. The presentation was amazing and the food tasted just like my mom's home cooking. My mom is Korean. First place that could match her Kimchee and Bulgogi. We have been regular customers here for 10+ years. We have been through two remodels. Food has typically been very consistent and very good. I like many of their dishes. Service was a problem, but in the last year, they got more help and resolved that....pretty much. Still some isolated issues with service. Today was a real disappointment and I hope this does not become a trend. They greatly reduced the food portions for lunch. Like 25 to 30% less than before. Bimbap had very little meat. Only about two spoon full. I left still hungry after paying $11 for lunch. The price of course was the same. My wife had Kimchi soup and the bowl was a little less than half full when they brought it out. I even said "How about filling it up?" Many of the great side dishes are no longer available. I hope this does not become the norm. They also removed some of the good dishes from the menu like the Hae Jang Gook which was a great beef soup with Chinese cabbage. A tad of spice made it great. Too bad its gone. To the Owner(s): Don't do this. This is a downward spiral that will destroy your customer base. You cannot make up revenue with reduced portions or higher prices. Volume is how you increase revenue. If the meal is not a good value, the volume will slowly disappear.

The food is good here. ..not amazing but good. There isn't much to chose from in KC for Korean but this place is in the top 2 best in KC. The problem is the service ...its not great n if u don't have thick skin n an easy going attitude ull get annoyed. I deal with it because the food is pretty good. Nice spice. It's more authentic then others in KC n I prefer that. Also since the service always sucks they charge u 5 bucks on ur bill...i guess that's their way of insuring a tip because the service is that bad. The place is over priced.

I was not expecting to find much of a Korean community in KC, but Cho Ga was the first Korean restaurant in KC area and is simply a must if you like Korean cuisine. Coming from DC, which has a myriad of great Korean restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised to find such high quality delicious Korean fare in Kansas. Sundubu was one of the best I've had and kalbi was sumptuous. Thank you and I will definitely be back!)

The food is awesome however service as everyone said is lacking. The waiters and waitresses do not come to refill water nor ask if we need anything else after serving us food. They went ahead and wrote their own tip in my bill and overcharged me. I tried to contact the manager however no one would direct me to him/her. I decided to give them another chance and went back another time. I was followed out by the waitress and she asked me why I didn’t give her any tip. However, I received the same service like the last time. The restaurant staff need to understand that tips are based on service and service is not the best it could be.

As a Korean American, I can say this is a solid restaurant. I was passing through the area on my way to CO, when this came up. I got the Spicy Brisket soup. It had the right amount of spice. I've read several people complain about the AYCE BBQ, to which I say, then you are going there for the wrong reason. KBBQ is pretty awesome but you have to remember you are getting AYCE. The quality will never be as high as if you were going to either a dedicated KBBQ place that doesn't do AYCE. Korean food like any culture is filled with a wide and varied palate. This isn't LA or NYC with large Korean populations, so restaurants like Choga don't specialize in one thing but offer a wide variety of comfort korean dishes. If a typical casual american chain began to offer an AYCE choice what would you expect it to be? Probably like Golden Corral. KBBQ comes with the better advantage of grill it yourself and the variety of banchan dishes to compliment the meal. If you say you like Korean food but only ever get KBBQ then you are truly missing out on the breadth and depth of Korean food. Come to Choga and get something, anything KBBQ and see how good Korean food can be.

There were 2 servers for entire restaurant area. There was a 3rd lady in the back counter area but she only cleaned the tables. Not sure if intentional but with 18% gratuity mandatory on every bill, that's obviously not acceptable. Water was never refilled and ponchan (side dishes) were skimpy. The meats they bring were slow to arrive after the first round. We had to cook the meat ourselves..it was a fun experience for 10 minutes but after that when you're sitting there staring at an empty blackened grill and trying to flag down a server for more meats, that's not cool!!You're Better off getting a good steak dinner elsewhere with good service.

After change their style I am not happy any more. Good for 2 or 3 member, not good for more than 4 people due to waiting on the orders. Also their tips are 18% on top of the after taxed cost and they sais it will be charged(maybe mendetory I guess). Great lunch. The lunch menu is amazing, a limited number of amazing options featuring korean basics. Just go in for lunch and order a stew, or lunch box, sit quietly and enjoy. The owner is kind but doesn't like photos lol. My kimchi jiggae was very spicy but delicious so she gave me some watermelon to cool down my mouth. Not quite as delicious as I make at home, but tastes differ and this was amazing anyway.

I go about 3x/month and only get the kalbi and hot tea. Always very good. Service is fine but can be a little slow due to minimal staff and lots of customers. Only complaint is the kimchi is only so-so.

Above average Korean food, a little expensive but it's usually a lot of food. The usual bill for 1 person here is at least $20. There are no lunch specials or seasonal items on the menu.

Only one server on the floor during lunch and don't expect any service or friendliness. It's almost like self service and it's almost like a bother to them to. bring out the food. Go in solely for the food.

Incredible! Delicious grilled Korean barbecue... But watch your food just in case they don't come back for a while. ..you do need to be responsible for your own food just in case they leave it to get burnt... enjoy the delicious meal they have to offer!

This was our first experience eating traditional Korean BBQ. I enjoyed it but it seemed a little pricey for what you get. You'll enjoy it more if you like fish/seafood.

The All You Can Eat Korean BBQ menu is great. There's a lot of options. There are some good sides. We really like the cheesy corn. We're really glad they have ayce now!

Looking for authenticity? Well, you’re in luck! Choga, in my opinion, is by far the best Korean Restaurant in the Kansas City area. The restaurant fills up quick and there is typically only one or two waitresses. I suggest arriving before they unlock their doors for lunch at 11:30am

Racist staff!!!!! My boyfriend and I walked in one day at lunch and the woman told us that they were closed. As we were walking out of the door a white man and Asian woman walked right in and were served !!!!! If you are not Korean or white, don't bother going here. They practice blatant racism in this establishment. They will literally kick you out and refuse to serve you!!!!

Excellent food. Tried the brisket cooked at the table. Kind of difficult to understand the menu or the serving process and some of the staff don't speak good English. Maybe read up on Korean BBQ before coming because we were a little confused. The meat was amazing though

They used to be my favorite restaurant. I always order the same dishes so I know the portion shrinks a lot. The side dishes are not impressive anymore. We have to grab our server to refill side dishes or we never see her.

Went today because prior times there, the food was good. Service was marginal. Today it hit a new low. Went for lunch at 11:30. Doors locked . About 11:40 someone opened the place. Said they had trouble opening the door. What??? No cooks, literally no staff other than one person. She said we would need to be seated and wait about 25 minutes to be served. Needless to say, we left. So did the other people who came for lunch. Something clearly wrong there.

The food is great, but as the others have said, the service is very slow. At dinner and on the weekends, the price is simply too high, but weekday lunch is a good bargain....but slow. Sometimes, there is only one server for the whole place. My wife and I ended up sharing a water because we could not get another drink. <> They have improved recently. They do have a couple servers there at lunch now. Much improved.

We went here for the first time. The food was good, service was not bad. But place is in need of serious renovations. Bathroom stalls have missing doors and doesn’t have locks. Booths have holes.. stuff like that

Service is okay. We had a large party. They failed to provide everyone with drinks. Portions are small. Meat was good. They charge extra for additional rice, which they failed to provide us that information.
