Food was awesome and service even better! Waitress saw I forgot my phone when I went to the bathroom and she held on to it till I came back. Food was delicious. We went on a busy night and they were quick to serve us!
It was a nice place for my first time there. The appetizers were good. I wasn't a fan of the baked beans though.
As soon as you walk in the door the smell of BBQ hits your nose. Gotta love that. Apps are good, the bbq is better they have sampler platters as well as bbq sandwiches. Only place in town I know of that has Pappy at the bar and available by the shot, 3 different years too. Will be back. In my top 3 bbq joints in KC.
Great atmosphere and food!
We got the Womp plater. Delicious variety of meats and sides. Plenty to take home. Great professional service. The baked bean tasted like chili, good chili, but not with BBQ. The bread pudding needed a new recipe. Our new favorite place.
Good food! Good company! Good service!
Bbq place. Tad expensive
We were there on a Saturday afternoon and the service was slow. The kids were told they couldn’t play the games that we paid for per the manager on duty. The place is pet friendly which is fine, but when your meal gets pet hair in it, the experience is ruined. Lesson learned.
Wait time was estimated at 35 minutes... we waited over an hour without any update. Food was great!
Best burnt sandwich I had in KCMO so far
Excellent food and service
The chairs suck, but the food and service are great.
Laid back family fun. Food was fabulous. Loved the atmosphere.
Fun Place. The food was very good (Cheese Girts were awesome) and the staff was great as well. Prices were ok and beer/drink selection was pretty good. I will be going back.
The burnt ends are so delicious, you will want to fake your death. Prompting you to move to Kansas City in the middle of the night, leaving your spouse and children behind. Leaving them to fend for themselves over the stale french fries left in that P.O.S. minivan parked in your former home's driveway. The Service is Top Notch and entertaining. If you lucky your waiter at brunch will have you laughing with his various voice impersonations. He will have you forgetting that in less then 24 hours you'll be stuck in a soul crushing cubical, listening to Karen drone on about her pet cockatoo. You'll soon drop the thoughts of piercing that sharpened number 2 pencil in your neck, as the next bird video is cued up by Karen. Instead you will be overcome with the beautiful memory of smells and tastes of Char Bar's tender, smokey burnt ends dipped so delicately in Char Bar's Table Sauce. That's when It hits you, the bottle of Char Bar Table sauce in your desk. You take a swig straight from sauce bottle, not caring what Karen thinks, or the entire office for that matter. As that brown sugar and spices married in a tomato concoction titillates your taste buds, the realization hits you. THIS Is why you faked your death, this is why you left your family. To be close to the Source, the Sauce, and the Ends.
Fun atmosphere. Food was average.
First time coming here, service was great our waiter David made the menu easy to navigate and suggested some of his favorites. We sat outside by the bar was a little disappointed because we didn’t actually to get to sit at the bar. Instead we sat at what reminded me of a lunch table ( which would be good for a group). The only problem with sitting outside was having to deal with flies and gnats which was annoying but again we chose to sit outside. The food came out pretty quick. My sandwich was the brisket cheesesteak it was good but not great I thought the brisket could have had more flavor. The other dish was burnt heaven and it was amazing!! The beans were good too. Definitely will be returning
Totally a cool place. Great for a date or hang with friends. Indoor and awesome outdoor options. Huge firepit and outdoor games like bocce ball.
Great. The cheese grits app is amazing - next time I would like to get all burnt ends and no sausage. Burnt ends were so good, so perfect. Skip the cheese corn unless you want a pan of hot gooey cheese with a little corn. Fried pickles awesome, but too much for 2 ppl unless that’s all you’re getting. The kale slaw and the broccoli slaw were super great, wish we’d ordered the bigger size. Kids chicken strips were EXCELLENT hand battered not standard pre frozen. No idea if pork butt sandwich was good because my 11 year old ate every last bit of it. Fries were good but who cares. Peach bread pudding was great too.
Got the Jackknife with coleslaw. It was pretty good. Their house made(I would assume so) pickles were great!
The food was better than the service. Went on a Friday night, so the wait was pretty long. Definitely a place to take your time. Very family friendly with games and outside space.
Food is tasty with respectable portions. Great beer options. Good customer service; everyone was polite and attentive. It felt like a good place to hang out for a while.
Really cool atmosphere. I got mac n cheese with burnt ends. Mac was great, wasn't a huge fan of the burnt ends.
Loved it! Food and service top notch!
The atmosphere and outdoor dining experience was great! Even their service was friendly. But their BBQ and menu was less than stellar. It was just ok.
Great atmosphere inside and out! Really great BBQ and even better sauces!
It was packed after a game. We still received excellent service. It was a long wait for our food because they began running out of food that we ordered. They comped our meal, they care about their customers and the experience they have. Also, a great atmosphere. I can't wait to come back to KC and eat here again.
Excellent! Great food, very nice waitress and latge portions. My grandson loved the food as much as we all did. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
BBQ cheesesteak was solid! A little on the pricey side (potato salad side was $5!) but nice staff and games like cornhole & ping pong outside with a fire pit. So nice value for a fun evening with friends. Will be back!
Kansas City is known for their exceptional BBQ. Char Bar should be on that included list for great BBQ restaurants. The Brisket and Burnt ends did not disappoint! The prices and atmosphere are perfectly fitting, too. Make a stop here. You'll be glad you did.
Our first time visiting Char Bar and we were very happy with all aspects of this fun find. Service was off the charts. Our food came out nicely timed and was amazing. We had about 10 in our group and all raved about how wonderful it all was.
Foods decent. Nothing to write home about. They probably shouldn't take reservations on Saturday, 12 open tables, we had a table of four (4). Quoted a two (2) hour wait... Foods not worth that
Amazing BBQ. The outdoor patio with games is fun too.
Great atmosphere! Wonderful KC BBQ!
Absolutely wonderful place!! We were visiting from out of town and trying to find places that accommodated dogs. Great place to bring the puppy. The service was outstanding and loved the food. As soon as we sat down, we received very fast and friendly service and before we could even ask, the waiter brought a bowl of cold water for the pooch. Will definitely be back. Thank you so much for understanding that pets are family too!!
The fried pickle spears, pork butt, and brisket are amazing!
This is good BBQ. And the service is fantastic. I will say. This is not the best BBQ in Kansas City but. It is very good. Fun location. And fun building. Food came insanely fast. Fries were good. Sauce is solid. Burnt ends were delicious. As always. I would recommend char bar.
JUMBO Bbq pork rinds rocked with a variety of sassy sauces! Great date night/post run protein fix! The smokehouse salad was on point as well as the brisket cheese steak! Oh and I'm told those pork rinds I mentioned are 1/2 price during happy hour!
My favorite BBQ in KC. They have lots of unique menu items and unlike every other place in KC, they ACTUALLY have a vegetarian option (jackfruit). No more just eating side dishes!
In town on business. Was told to check this place out. It didn't disappoint the food tasted great, the atmosphere was nice, and the meals are affordably priced
Great outdoor patio!!! This is definitely a place worth eating!!!
We were on a mini vacation from St.Louis when we stopped for dinner on St.Patrick’s Day. It was busy but we were seated right away. Our server Allyce was very warm and attentive. The food was great, good portions even the kids meals. The next time we’re in town we’ll be back.
Every time I've been here it has been super chillaxed. (Even on a "game day") 60/40 why I like coming here. Staff nice/relaxed. Not over zealous or pushy. I've always gotten the Sunday Friday Chicken. Which rack depends on how hungry I am. Consistently good since coming here. Yet another beer review? Beer is after all, beer. I get whatever I'm in the mood for. It's ABOUT THE FRIED CHICKEN. (And biscuit with honey) Very cool outside area, too.
How many restaurants have I awarded 5 stars? Not many, since perfection is only that because it is really hard to come by. Yet this place...WOW. The food here is fantastic.
I'm not sure what all the hype is about here. I was told to go here because of the 'melt in your mouth' burnt ends. Personally I want my burnt ends to have some crispy crust, not cooked so tender that it's almost pureed. Also the atmosphere. I go in and get my meal on a metal tray, on butcher block paper with meat, ribs, beans piled on... you have me there, but in the corner of the tray is a radish cut into a flower ??? What's that doing there? I'm not going to eat it and it doesn't add anything to the meal. I would describe this as hipster BBQ. What did the hipsters bring to our lives, beards, Esty, skinny pant, artisanal food? If you have flavor to the meat, you don't need to add flare to make it better. Stick to the fundamentals of BBQ- cooking/smoking the meat. If it's cooked right, there doesn't need to be jalapeno jam on it to make it better. I have friends that want to go, so I endure, but there are plenty of other places in KC with much better BBQ.
Definitely a winner!! Staff and food amazing worth the drive!
Perfect place after not wanting to stand in line at the q39 place. This place had seating and very good food. The pulled pork was the most amazing of them all. Grilled salmon salad was huge. Very good beer too, even one from the independent brewery outside of KC.
YUM!!!! We stopped here on Easter Sunday driving back home to Cincinnati. We are so glad we stopped!! The food was delicious and the outdoor space was perfect, we were so happy to find a place we could bring our 2 dogs to.
Great food and atmosphere. Love this place.
This restaurant was a delight to discover. Everything was good but the ribs, sausage, and brisket were especially good. The potato salad was awesome as were the fried jalapenos. We all got something different and shared. Our server was very informative and diligent in providing really good service. It was so good... I think it's safe to say that I was in a food coma for the afternoon. I look forward to going again!!
Had a great time! One of the managers Sarah was so great. She has awesome customer service and is very knowledgeable. It was a pleasure working with her on our party needs.
Top barbecue spot in kc, try pimento cheese appetizer.
Best Bbq ever. Of all time.
Food was just ok. Not the best BBQ I've had, and not the worst. We liked sitting on the patio with our dogs.
Amazing weekend brunch! We especially loved the burnt ends benny and cornbread muffins
Best burnt ends in KC, hands down. They also have amazing grits, which is actually hard to find. Amazing service. Kiona was amazing and gave the best advice. This is my new favorite spot.
Amazing food, awesome service. A necessary stop while in town!
Solid portions, good food. Nice tap selection. Decent price. Would definitely return.
Stopped in here while traveling for work. I liked that it was walking distance to the hotel. They have a good selection of beer and food. Everyone in my party seemed to enjoy what they ordered. Waitress was extremely nice and attentive. Will definately be back when I am back in town.
VEGAN SUPREME BBQ! Donny our server was super chill. What sold me was the smoked jackfruit. I am a total carnivore but open. So when I come across a new meat alternative, I try them out. I have traveled to 35 of the lower 48 and 6 foreign counties and that was the BEST non-meat meat I have ever tried. The looks were dead on, the texture was great and the flavor....OH BABY!!! It was on the spicy side so if that is a thing for you, either ask them to tone it down or compliment it with their Bacon Broccoli Coleslaw. Talk about a BBQ dance in your mouth. This would go great in a Taco, burrito or nachos or it’s amazing straight like I had it. If you are a vegetarian or vegan you have found your BBQ home. They have standard salad fair, but this smoked jackfruit...You can order and make the meat eaters mouth water. Now the sausage was a mild comfort food Smokey flair and burnt ends were super tender. I like my burnt ends a little more salty, but if you have stayed away because of that, then these are the ones for you. Oh and a fun atmosphere to boot! 5 out of 5 ribs!!!
Excellent food and outdoor dining area, but you have to pay to play their outdoor games ( ping-pong, bocce, etc.)...even for paying customers. :-( Again, food was great and I would’ve given five stars if the outdoor games were complementary.
I was not only impress by the delicious food, but also by the outstanding service. From the moment I walked through those doors, I was struck by great aromas and exquisite decor. Our waiter was efficient but charmiac, and the food was bursting with flavor. I will most definitely be returning.
The Burnt-ends here is one of the best BBQ dishes in Kansas City.
The service was decent, but the food and drink were absolutely delicious. Mom had the roots and fruits salad, Dad had ribs, brother had a sammie and I filled up on a beautiful kale salad topped with a perfectly cooked cut of salmon. Also the beer selection, the cute light bulbs and overall ambiance are all reasons to return.
Was a little bummed that they didn't have burnt ends, but the Holy Trinity didn't disappoint with the substituted chicken wings. Nice juicy cuts of meat with plenty or flavor. Great outdoor area with games and a fire pit. Looks like a cool place to meet up with friends.
They don't have enough Canadians on staff anymore. But good eats.
Delicious food and great service!
Great outdoor seating area with yard games, some of the best BBQ in KC I have had
Burnt ends were amazing. The peach desert was great. Danielle did a great job of explaining the menu and keeping our drinks filled. I have to say KC bbq is where it's at.
Char Bar amazing!! I had the fried pickles & salmon BLT lots of yummy food!!! The smoking Gun drink was fun & delicious
Some of the best BBQ in town. They also have a very wide selection of beers, both on tap and from the can/bottle. The best part about this place is the outside patio with all kinds of yard games. Make sure to plan a day that is not 100°+ like we did, so you can actually enjoy the outside patio! Lol
The BBQ here was amazing!!!!! We had great sides (potato salad, cheddar grits, broccoli slaw), and really good service. Prices seemed very reasonable for what you get. Three of us split their meat platter and there was still a ton of food left over. I can see this place being very busy so you might have to wait but in my opinion it is worth it.
Beat BBQ place I've ever been too. The design of the restaurant menu and furniture was incredible. The food was better than I imagined and our server was knowledgeable and kind. Definitely will be going back!
Excellent food. Plus we had a great waiter.
This restaurant had been on my wish list for a few months and I was not disappointed. The Burnt Heaven sandwich was amazing. The tender and fatty burnt ends were delightfully complimented by the crunchy and spicy fried jalapenos. I also had a fried spicy pickle (from the Pickled Pig) since my wife didn't want it since it was spicy. If they don't offer these as a side or appetizer, they should!
The atmosphere inside is very different from outside. The inside is a fairly typical restaurant feel, outside with multiple games to play as well as more of the smells of the meats being smoked is another matter... The food itself is really good and different in that a brisket philly is a much heartier sandwich than the norm... and it has au ju as well. There is even a parking garage attached to the site for easy access/parking.
I love BBQ in KC and Char Bar is a top three pick in this city. I recommend the CBGB burger.
Amazing food. Great service. A must do when visiting KC
Easily top 5 favorite BBQ. Had the picked pig and it was everything needed in a pork sandwich.
The food was pretty good but the patio was the best part of the visit
Had the pleasure of going to this place after visiting the brewery tour. Ended up having lamb ribs and brisket. The brisket was amazing along with the ribs but they were a little bit greasy but I guess that's just because it's lamb. Nice outdoor area to sit in
One of the best BBQ joints I've visited in KC. The food has a nice balance between seasoning, smoke & sauce. The waiter we had was excellent!!! He helped us make awesome choices for dinner as well as got us drinks in a timely manner when they were starting to need to be refilled. They are one of the higher priced places we've tried, but I don't mind paying a little more for excellent service & food.
Good food, friendly service, really fun out door activity options
Food is great! Atmosphere is chill. The salmon BLT is my absolute go to! The avocado and bacon make the salmon just taste so good! The hush puppies are the absolute bomb! My friends and I went on a weekday around 11am in uniform (Navy) and the chef sent us a plate. I never would have ordered them based on the description but now I order them every time. The sassafras root beer and sweet potato fries are amazing too. The servers are excellent! Char Bar is trying to cut down on waste so they started using paper straws for the environmental type. Really great place to eat and chill!
Foods good and everything. I've been several times but I don't know what was going on but the waiter or manager whoever he was he was rude and rushed us out of the restaurant as if he didn't want us there. I will not be returning.
Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Burnt ends were awesome!!!
Good chicken and waffles. Staff was good and the food was delivered fast.
Easily one of my top 2 favorite barbecue places in Kansas City! If you go you have to try the cornbread muffins and burnt ends!
Good food, nice place. You can even bring yoir dog. The price was good for the food. I would definitely give them 5 stars. I will be eating here again. Donny was awsome. He knew his job and served my family of six like it was no prob also he gave tips on the good sides. Thank you Char Bar and give Donny a raise he deserves it.
The restaurant had a nice ambience but the food was average. The brisket was quite dry.
I was there with a group and received the worse bar service I ever have from an establishment. Suggest people go to eat, but would go somewhere else to drink.
The food was absolutely fabulous! Great selections! Prices and portions were perfect! Went for lunch but definitely would love to go at night. The atmosphere presents for a fun weekend night! I will be returning
Good food drinks way overpriced
Would not recommend it. It did not have ribs for it to be a BBQ. Took a very long rime for drinks, wven the water. They sceewed up our order. Had to wait almost an hour for food. The waitress and other servers seemed only focused on what was convenient for them. Would not reccomend nor go back!
This place was really great. Awesome atmosphere and amazing food. I had the burnt end sandwich burnt ends were huge juicy tender and amazing.they have a really cool outdoor patio area with many yard games but I did not get to play them.
Never have I ever had a sandwich from a restaurant that looked EXACTLY like the picture in the menu. It was absolute perfection!! Tasted incredible.. I got it last night and I still am thinking about it today! Burnt end sandwich is supreme!!
This restaurant is excellent! It was my first time there so I decided to order the Holy Trinity to try different things... everything was absolutely delicious! The ribs and the burnt ends were to die for and the cormeal muffins were moisty and crunchy, perfect!!
Great atmosphere, great food. Went there for my wife's birthday Everything was awesome except the service which spoiled our day. Wasn't happy celebrating my wife's birthday here. Will surely visit here again because the food was awesome but not going to celebrate any event here.
This is a slightly upscale take on Kansas City barbecue but keeps great flavor and friendly staff. We started off with the cheesy hush puppies. My friend had the Burnt Heaven sandwich with very good burnt ends along with a Junior order of the hand cut fries. I had the 2 Meat Platter with smoked pit ham and Black Angus brisket with a mini order of the smoked pit beans. The smoke of the meats was very well done. I recommend the spicy barbecue sauce. It was great that the pit beans were made with the different types of beans - black, red, and pinto - providing flavor and texture contrasts. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Even though the desserts looked awesome, neither of us had room after the generous portions. A great value in the heart of Westport.
Super delicious food and nice staff. But a little bot pricey and if you wanna sit inside there bout 20 minutes of waiting time normally
The amazing smell from the parking lot drew me in like the sing of the Siren. The food was good, truly, but the only drawback was that it had just a bit too much fat for my preference. Still, a very positive experience and I would eat there again.
ribs were good, but a little tough, but the fries were very good. Sauce tasted a bit like ketchup to me, not bad bbq but for the price, I think there are better options
The Holy Trinity was worth it. Outstanding burnt ends.
Went here Saturday night, very much busy, 45 min waiting for table, seated, ordered everything at once (drinks and also place order for foods), waiting about 45-55min till foods were served. Place looks nice and have a few games avail to occupy your waiting time unless there was a private party (like happened to us today) so pretty much nothing to do. Parking can be challenging to find. Foods are very good however we found another place better. If you are looking for vegetarian BBQ, then should give this place a try.
Good food. Great service. Fun atmosphere.
The place received rave reviews so our expectations were super high. Service was excellent, the food was quite good but the restaurant's accoustics we're so lousy that it was virtually impossible to have a conversation at our table. If you like your chicken LOUD this Pub is for you. Alternatively, consider dining and drinking in the outdoor area where it's possible to have a conversation.
The service was slow and my girlfriend didnt like the sweet or spicy bbq sauce. I thought everything was delicious, but my root beer was flat. The waitress randomly gave us a free app, so that earned them an extra star
Great food, great booze, and a comfortable environment. What more could you ask for?
Hard 5/5 experience. Got the Whomp! platter and wings. The meats were all out of this world and it was well worth it to split three ways. Brisket, ribs, pork belly, sausage, ham, turkey. Need I say more. Get it and be happy. Good cocktails and a decent beer selection as well.
Great place to eat, meatloaf sandwich was super good and unique.
Wow it's good . A big platter of ribs, brisket, ham, turkey,Jack fruit, sausage and kale slaw along with onion rings. They also make there own root beer. You can eat outside by the croket game. By the way Jack fruit is a vegan barbecue something available for meat and something for a vegan so everyone leaves happy and full.
The food was unbelievably good, and our waiter Church was super nice and helpful. This will definitely be a stop to make next time I'm in Kansas City!
Visiting from out of town and I needed the meats. This place has them. Parking: there's a good-sized lot just across the street. Got there around 5:30 on a Friday and had no problem finding a spot. Service: excellent. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Food: there are so many good options. I wish I could try them all, but I managed to narrow it down to the meat tray with 2 meats. I could have had the 3 meat tray if I wanted to overeat but 2 meats was just enough food. I got the sausage and brisket. Both had a nice savory, smokey flavor. For a side, I got the potato salad, which might have been the best I've ever had. Price: completely fair. Recommended? Yes
Made a reservation two weeks ahead of time, and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Service was a little slow but good overall. The BBQ was pretty tasty, but the "BBQ spiced fries" literally just tasted like fries with no seasoning. Good choice for a BBQ fan but not for everybody.
Super awesome team at the bar! Enjoyed burnt pudding, kale salad, crispy pork belly, onion rings and the atmosphere. Thanks for corralling such a great team! Might I add that your patrons we're awesome because of this thanks again...
Char bar is a great place, great food, great service. Our waiter gave this very good breakdown of the menu in very convincing, funny and entertaining voices! Great job! Great for a quick lunch, get together with friends or a date night. A little chilly out? Well you can hang out outside by one of the fire pits whil drinking you desired beverage waiting for a table or even play one of the outside games they have. Whatever you chose it will be delightful! Enjoy!
Nearly speechless...nearly... Went here on a whim because we were in the area. I had the best meal I have EVER had! I ate the CBGB Burger, from my understanding it was a mix of pork and brisket. It wasn't shredded, but instead came like a burger. There was a perfect balance of meat, dryrub, and smoke flavor. The meat was the best I have ever eaten. Other toppings on the burger are amazing too. Sweet potato fries were delicious with a generous amount of sea salt. While the food was great, I do have to say the atmosphere is just as good. Beautiful outdoor seating with plenty of shade. Instead looked nice too. Do yourself a favor, check this place out and never eat anywhere else. Yes, it's that good!
Wow. This place was amazing. Service was top notch, parking was easy, and the food was the best. We got the Whomp which has a good size helping of a lot of bbq. It says it will feed 2-3, but our family of 5 couldn't finish it.
Smoked chicken hash was pretty good but the peach mimosas are the bomb
I've been to Char Bar both times I've been to Kansas City and been blown away each time. This recent visit I split the whole bird on their fried chicken Sunday special among myself and both my parents. Good portion for three people. The fried chicken is delicious with good flavor and texture. We had mashed potatoes, the kale and pecorino slaw, and potato salad as our sides. I absolutely LOVED the potato salad.
The food, the beer, KC'S best bartender Tamrah. Can't wish for much more.
Char Bar is a BBQ restaurant that does it without making it glaringly obvious that they are one! So if you are not in the mood for BBQ, or simply feel like having something else, they do have non-BBQ or BBQ-lite options on the menu. Also great place to go if you want to enjoy a patio or outdoor seating.
Meh, it was ok. Service was great but the food was just so so. I've had a lot of BBQ in KC and this just wasn't as flavorful as others. It was also pretty dry. Sweet potato fries also were not that great, also not very flavorful. I will choose somewhere else next time I get BBQ.
Love the vibe of this place! The bartenders, Joe & Job, were awesome & provided exceptional service! The Salmon BLT was delicious. Can't wait to come back for brunch on the weekends!
I really liked the food; the sauce they add for chicken wings is awesome.
A lot great choices!! Amazing beer choices
Seriously top notch service and great experience. Food was fabulous. The corn cheese jalapeño casserole is fabulous. I cannot pick one meat that i liked best as they were a fabulous. The pork rinds with vinegar was yummy. Sweet potato fries, broccoli slaw... not one bad thing. Yummy!!
Char Bar has a great outdoor dining atmosphere. The crowd is a mixture of friends hanging out having drinks, families with small children, and people with their dogs. They have fun lawn games and table tennis. More like a park really. The food is very tasty, but it is a bit pricey if you go for the bbq platters. I ordered the three wing three rib combo that came with a slice of toast, dipping sauce, and a side for $20. Would love to go back for day drinks and games some time.
This was from a local recommendation! When I visit a new city, I ALWAYS ask locals for recommendations of food options. While in KC barbecue is a must. A local artist, recommended Char Bar and I was very pleased with this recommendation. The food was top notch and the service was on point. There was plenty of options to choose from weather your in for a big meal or just a simple lunch. I am doing the Keto diet so I was pleased by the menu and what I could and couldn't have, and the server was able to substitute items if I needed it. If your in this area, be sure to visit. I noticed they had local brews as well, and although I didnt partake in those, I'm certain you couldn't go wrong with those options.
Good bbqs, nice, friendly place. A little pricey.
Good quality BBQ in a very hipster setting with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. I love their Burnt Ends Mac & Cheese! They also have inexpensive and well-portioned lunch specials. However, their customer service can be hit & miss, and their lawn games are NOT free for paying customers, so not a 5 star rating.
Great food and fun outside atmosphere. The pickled pig is my favorite.
Service was excellent and burnt ends were perfect! I can't wait to go back. :)
The food is amazing. Every time I visit Kansas City I make sure to come here with whomever I'm with and everybody has always felt it was their favorite BBQ place they've been to. I actually don't like barbecue sauce at all so I have to get creative in how I order. Despite that, the food is still amazing.
The food at Char Bar was pretty good overall. The atmosphere was really fun/trendy and the beer selection was better than average. It’s a shame the service here is so, so bad. I came in with a small party to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks ago and the first staff member we encountered ignored us to the point of awkwardness. We stood in the entrance alone for a couple of minutes wondering how the seating worked (it was our first time here). There was noone at the welcome counter, but there was a young guy walking around near where we were standing. A member of my party walked up and asked if the restaurant was open seating. He was visibly put off that we asked the question and curtly responded that no, it’s not. A second Char Bar employee came to the welcome desk and happily asked us how many were in our party. We told her and she asked us to follow her outside where we were seated. As we walked away I realized that the first employee’s job was to be a host. Horrible first impression. Our waitress was very good. She was attentive and our order came out perfect. She had great timing on asking us if we wanted more to drink. Props to her. After eating, my party decided to play bocce ball ($5/hr I think) and have a couple more drinks. We wanted to sit by the court, but the tables in that location were covered in bottles and glasses. One glass was broken. It took us about 5 minutes to find and flag down an employee to ask that the tables be bussed. When we found one, we received a similar “why are you bothering me with this” attitude from a blond-ish guy in a black button up. Someone, not the person we asked, came over and gave us more attitude while they cleared the empties that we DID NOT LEAVE AND HAD BEEN SITTING THERE FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES WITHOUT BEING BUSSED like we were somehow putting them out. This holier than thou attitude continued at the outdoor bar when I tried to order a drink. I tried to ask the bartender (they had a ponytail, goatee and long, manicured nails) about a sour on tap that I hadn’t seen before. They didn’t turn around to respond and mumbled toward the taps. When I asked them to repeat what they said, they started pouring a different sour that I did not want. When I tried to stop them and point out that I was asking about a different beer, they rolled their eyes and began pouring the second beer without answering me. Probably not going back unless someone drags me here. It’s a cool concept, but the staff needs some training on how to conceal pretension and provide quality, attentive customer service.
Great burnt ends and homemade sausage.
The fried pickles and salmon is fantastic and the service was great. Good beer selection too!
Great beer. Epic food. Burnt ends and ribs were the best I’ve ever had
Best fried pickles and great food!
Love the food & Atmosphere. Service was very good. We was seated in the inside next to the patio. We will be eating here again & again. Only thing problem my party of 4 had was it extremely loud. The room was full with only 2 tables left open. Please add sound dampening.
The jackfruit sandwich is vegan friendly and really good!
A burger made of shredded brisket. It's not just a good idea. It's amazing, no joke.
Maybe the best burnt ends in the city. Big and juicy and melt in your mouth. Sausage was off the charts. Not too dense and very flavorful. Sauce is classic Kansas City, rich tomato and a little sweet. Love that it was barely drizzled on the meat and not drowning it. Brisket, pulled pork and sides were fine but not worth raving over. But those burnt ends... forget about it. I’ll be back for those!
The food and service were great. We ordered too much, but it was a good problem to have. I enjoyed the hot sauce a lot, and I was able to buy a bottle to take home. My wife and I look forward to eating here again in the future!
Unique bar b q and craft beer. Really cool patio when its nice out.
Great Gluten free options. Superior Service. Thanks Char Bar!
Great BBQ. Great apps. Fun outdoor area.
Wonderful food great atmosphere
We had a really nice time, and the atmosphere was cool/eclectic. The servers were super busy (which I get), so they were stretched thin (but they were knowledgeable and nice!)
Great food with a fun atmosphere.. our entire party enjoyed the food fun and libations..
Rating based solely on the food. Quantity and quality do not match the price.
Bit of a wait, but our food was amazing
decent bbq. owned by the same folks who own beer kitchen so of course the beer selection is great. outdoor space is great for when the weather is nice.
Greatly atmosphere. Great BBQ. I started with the Jumbo Smoked Chicken Wings. They had great flavor and a little kick to them. For our main course we ordered the Whomp platter. It consisted of a half a slab of ribs (was more like a full slab),6 meats( turkey, brisket, burnt-ends, pulled pork, sausage and ham), a bucket of fries(half regular fries and half sweet potato fries), jar of pickles, toasted bread and two sides. For my sides I choose Bbq pit beans and potato salad. Everything tasted great, except for the turkey and BBQ beans. The turkey was a little dry and the BBQ beans were bland. Overall it was a positive experience.
Went here on St Paddy's day so was busy. That being said, the servers were prompt and polite. The portion of the food was impressive and tasted delicious. Will definitely be going back!
Beat beef burnt ends I've ever had. Great bark. Juicy...not too salty.paired well with the sweet sauce...didnt try hot as the beans were hot
Burnt Heaven with two over easy eggs will be all you need if in a breakfast mood.
Fantastic BBQ joint. Brandon the bartender was a fantastic host. I will definitely be eating here when I'm back in town.
