You know that we do not usually stop to give feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Pakistani restaurant.
Excellent Pakistani & Indian dishes for the discerning pallet! You have got to try this place. Marsala sauce was creamy, tasty, and not too spicy. Chicken literally fell off the bone, and the naan bread was perfect. I stopped by for a quick lunch but I'm definitely going to make this a regular dinner place for me and my wife.
No buffet here, just fresh, made to order Indian / Pakistani dishes. They don't have a broad menu, but everything on offer is masterfully made.
Excellent little neighborhood restaurant. Food is outstanding; service, great. A definite place to try. You will love it!
For a great dining experience look no further than this hidden gem nestled away in KCMO's own brookside neighborhood. Delicious exotic foods with spicy savory sweet taste and translucent sounds.
One of the best places to get Indian/Pakistani food. Blessed to have known about this place.
Cute little place with great service, presentation and food.
I miss living in KC because of this restaurant. No joke. I grew up in KC and legitimately believe this is its best restaurant, hands down (sorry, BBQ). It is still the first place I stop on my way into town from the airport and the last place I go before heading home. It will be my favorite restaurant as long as it exists. Oh, and the owners are awesome, too. Doesn't get any better than this.
So authentic and the service was great. The flavors were bold and portions were perfect. I can't wait to go back
Best veggie samosas I've ever had, hands down. These guys are the nicest people around and even resisted putting a tip jar out but people kept leaving money on the counter. So they send those tips back to India or Pakistan for flood victims. I am truly impressed with the food, the charm, the friendliness, and thoughtfulness of this family-run restaurant. 5 stars, baby!
Great samosas, great pakora, definitely going back. The entrees are awesome as well, I especially enjoy the Lamb Daal.
Nice place. Great food. Good service.
Food was very good and the server was very friendly. He explained the menu in detail. Taste and spice was to the point however the Pink Tea (Kashmiri Chai) was not good. The blend was not good and was not like original. Price was a bit high though but presentation was excellent.
Great food and great service. Yanni was an excellent server with good recommendations. Prices weren't cheap but about what you'd expect for quality, fresh food. Worth visiting for sure.
I have visited here many times, every time the experience was good. It is a Pakistani Cafe, so if you are looking for gourmet North Indian or Pakistani cuisine this is the place for you. This place does not serve typical Indian buffet, dishes are cooked to order so quality of food is usually top notch. Only reason I have given four stars because its a bit overpriced, dishes cost more than twice as much compared to other Indian/Pakistani eating places around Kansas City.
Great food, fast service!
One of my favorite places. The owner is always so hospitable. Chai Shai really allows you to enjoy unique flavors with great spices. Vegetarian Samosas have super fresh vegetable filling and the fried texture is perfect. My husband and I shared the Indian omelette and the Special, as pictured. The bread that comes with the omelette was amazing! I recommend a cup of black chai with your meal! Not too sweet.
Love this place, we had the sampler platter, corn, and paaner. The sampler platter is quite big, keep that in mind when ordering more food
Great food. But very very slow service. Takes the pleasure out of dining
High quality Indian food with a cozy interior. The service was prompt. The price was fairly high ($17 per entree) and meal size was only medium, but I felt like I got my money's worth. Real effort was put into the decor, and each table was candlelit. Most tables were designed to seat two. Definitely a good place to take a date. Oh, and the chai was strong and delicious. Would recommend.
Wonderful atmosphere! I really enjoyed the personal service. I didn't have any food, but my mouth watered when I walked in the door. I had a Pink Chai, and it was delicious! I definitely recommend checking this place out.
It was delicious
great samosa's
Absolutely wonderful food and great, friendly service. Lots of good options for vegetarians and omnivores alike, and generous portions.
Beautiful place with authentic homemade food. It won’t disappoint!
Food was amazing!!!!!! The plates were presented well and the food was fresh. I had dinner and dessert with a mango shake to go! The beautiful part is i don't feel stuffed. Oh and the service was amazing! Kasheef walked me through the menu and took great care of me and my guest!! Telling everyone I know in KC about Chai Shai!!!
I absolutely love the mango shake! I enjoyed eating the Achari Chicken with basmati rice and garlic naan. The spices used for the chicken were scrumptious! The set up of the restaurant is also elegant and cultural.
Loved the starters.Entrees were ok, not too authentic.
Mango shake was my favorite ♡ Food was very pleasing. Also, the waiter - young man with dreads - was cute and nice. I like when waiters are service oriented because it's easy to tip them ;) Even music was awesome - they played Pandora radio, Beach House channel. This place just made us more happy!
Amazing service and the food was delicious! Definitely worth a visit
My husband and I have eaten here many times and they have never failed us. The owner's mother cooks meals like they used to have at home. So this menu is different than what you would find at a Indian or Pakistani restaurant. Food is always perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Always delicious! We enjoy going there on the weekend for specials that are not on the menu. Our favorite KC restaurant.
The food we received was good but missing the side of spicy mango (my favorite treat). Be sure to stop them from stapling your bag before you’ve had a chance to double check your order.
This place totally exceeded my expectations! Service was amazing and the food was even better. We had the lamb and chicken and it was super flavorable and filling. And the mango shake was to die for!
The food very expensive and the food is very small but very clean and with all this everyone has their own assessment
THE BEST in Pakistan cuisine in Kansas City. Great owner, great vibe and super food. Will NOT disappoint!
My search for flavor town has ended
Friendly staff. The food is a little too Americanized but still not bad.
Google says it's open but it's no where open...bad management
Food was really good. Service was really good. We liked it because it was not over crowded.
Very good food. Very quaint little place. I love the atmosphere there. I would definitely recommend this place.
Samosas are amazing, but everything else I’ve had here isn’t far behind. An amazing Brookside treasure.
Always delicious with concierge level table service!
Awesome food, even better service
The food here is very authentic and delicious. Small intimate atmosphere and always great music.
I came from NY. And was going to back to NY so i took a break for lunch with 8 of my friends. Were visiting around I never had a this delicious food ever in USA. Great service and great people. Beautiful restaurant construction. I will be happy coming back here next time if i got a chance to visit here again. MashaAllah. Allah Give them Business and long live Love it subhanAllah
Awesome selection of unique foods that I was more than happy to try. Price was relatively low and the food quality was high. They had a new waitress working who was slow but other than that everything was great. I'd recommend stopping by if you haven't.
My first time eating Pakistani/Indian food. It was delicious! The atmosphere was warm and service was impeccable.
This is hands down, one of the best restaurants in Kansas City. It's a quaint little location nestled in a neighborhood so it may be unlikely you'd just happen upon it. The owners and staff are some of the friendliest in the city and the food is amazing. Don't miss out on the samosas and the lamb Korma - my absolute favorite. Grab a chai tea to go and you'll leave a happy customer. This is a staple in our eating out locations. Definitely recommend.
Food portions are way small. We actually sat there waiting for our order to be taken while people who arrived after us were served before us. Music was super loud and when asked to turn it down, they didn’t actually but pretended to. Total disappointment. Oh and you’re served on ikea plates.
Very good food
Plate size is small but food tastes really good! Good for dinners.
If the menu is this small for an Indian restaurant. It should be changing every month.
It's easy to miss this place and I feel sorry for those who have not been there..woe...the food is awesome
Very long wait although there were only three other occupied tables. We waited over an hour for 2 main courses. Samosas were excellent however curry + biryani were mediocre. The owner was not very friendly and didn't give a welcoming feeling.
Food was great! Will definitely be back.
The waitresses we talked with were great, very sweet! The owner was the one to actually wait on us however, and he was far from helpful. On top of some less than polite comments, we waited 2 hours there when other tables that were sat well after us were served before us. Not a pleasant experience at all.
Love love love the food
The lamb karma is the best! Highly recommend. The environment is relaxing for a friend’s meeting.
Always great. Perfect place for vegetarians, or those who are gluten free. If you can eat gluten, the beef samosas are amazing. Other favorites include pakoras, pink chai, and lamb dal.
Tasty food, but a somewhat limited menu. Wait staff was wonderful, but it was pretty stifling inside. Overall good experience and we're glad we finally got to try it out.
I love the food at Chai Shai, especially the pakora and vegetarian samosas. Staff is always friendly and courteous. My only word of warning is that they can be very slow to prepare food. I always allow an additional 15 when I order carry out.
Where to start... Upon arrival, despite being seen and passed by several times, our server (which happened to be the owner of the establishment) just ignored us. No hello, "no I'll be right with you", no drink order. This is obviously a place for regulars and friends of the owner. The preferential treatment given to those people was blatant. After a long wait our appetizer came and we ate it quickly then the empty plate sat there for some time before someone asked if we were finished with the empty plate. After that, we were ignored for an hour while obvious favorite customers and friends got seated, served, and left all in the time we sat there. The waiter (owner) came to our table once to take our entire order at the same time (that was drinks, appetizers, and main courses) and didn't return until about an hour had elapsed after the appetizer promising our food "was on it's way" when clearly it wasn't (We still had to wait another 15 to 20 minutes). The owner was just all around rude but is just as friendly as can be if you are one of his old chums. The lack of customer service, professionalism, and just all around unacceptable service.
Delicious food and a peaceful environment. One of the best spots in KC for sure.
Love this place! I’m definitely coming back next weekend!
Their food and service is exceptional!
I am visiting from bay area. Trust me too expensive for small amount of food. Very small place. Food was not even tasty. Sorry but this is my honest review. Go to overland park for more authentic pakistani food.
Amazing good with gorgeous ambience around. The owner is really humle and serves you in a really nice way.
We tried this cute little place after a friend recommended for excellent Indian food. I was a little nervous after seeing some of the reviews but we loved it! The owner waited on us and took his time to discuss the menu and make recommendations. We are an interracial couple and experienced no disrespect. We shared an appetizer and each had an entree. We both had more than enough to eat. The food is fresh so be prepared to wait for it to be prepared. I fully recommend as a date night with adults and plenty of time.
Not giving full stars because there portion is small and pricy compared to service they provide. Really congested sitting area, I had to stay conscious when waitress was passing every time, had to excused. Decorations was fun and I liked. Achari chicken was tasty, but to much spicy sauce made my platter quite unappetizing. I tried the tea, it was really thin not creamy. What I loved this place is it’s lighting. It gave me a cozy dining feel. They should get some space to accommodate more customer, so the wait time will be minimized.
Was delicious!! Definitely going back.
Absolutely worst experience. If you have kids, please do not go to this place. My wife and I went there on 7/14/2018 with my two boys aged 4.5 and 2.5. Kids were watching their favorite videos on phones and they were actually behaving nicely. They did not make a mess, did not drop food on the floor, did not run around the restaurant and we had our dinner. We also had another couple with their two boys. At the end the dinner, owner tells my wife that " I have been patient with your kids since you got here ". I never had such an experience in any place ever. Our friends actually went back and confronted this owner , however he did not acknowledge nor did he apologize. Just ruined our evening.
Fantastic food sensational service. A true hidden gem for wonderful food.
Best Lamb Korma I have eaten!!
Mutter paneer was good
I wasnt satisfied. Rude guy and very expensive for a little amount of food. Waist of time.
This family-run Pakistani restaurant has amazing food, though it's very slow coming out (just plan to spend a long time there if you go). Service was decent. I loved all my food and they have the vegan and vegetarian dishes labeled clearly. Be warned that they don't serve alcohol and don't allow BYOB either.
We walked in and it smelled good, but the music was very LOUD, so we had to leave. They would not turn it down for us, even though we were a group of five and there were few other people there.
Great service
Always superior dining.
The samosas are killer. The menu may be small, but everything on it is great.
Without exagerating. First of all way too high price for little amount of food, and I don't eat a lot.second they served us beef instead of lamb which is totally a scam. Really hot and sticky inside, the poor service. I went against my believe and left no tips which I never did in my life. would never ever come here again and I don't recommend anyone to come here... waste of money. If i wasn't in a food mood I would report this place to BBB. Oh and my girlfriend agrees with this 100 so i dont think i was being unfair.
Always perfect. Modern & cool atmosphere. Perfect for a date. Intimate & delicious!
Incredibly good food!!! I love the curry and the mango shake!
Our first time here — Excellent. Food great, service great, atmosphere great. Highly recommend!!
Super unique food, very authentic. The samosas are out of this world. A must try for anyone in Kansas City. They make a lot of the dishes to order, so sometimes the meals take a few minutes to come out, and they don't serve alcohol, but neither of these things matter compared to how good the food is.
Food was reasonable. However, customer service was not so great. It took them almost an hour to get our food and during the hour wait no one communicated or apologized for the delay.
Love this restaurant. Food is quality. Very well made. The ambiance is perfect for a date night. It is small and intimate, quiet, dimmer lights with candles on the tables. I highly recommend the spiced mangos, one of the appetizers I believe.
Top quality dishes are the "normal" always fresh and full of flavor. A lemonade is a must order!
Great Indian food and drinks. Balanced menu with some vegetarian options. Can't wait for good weather to eat outside in the terrace.
Best hidden gem in town for freshly prepared Indian cuisine!
AMAZING. Easily one of the best restaurants in KC, if not the best. The flavors in every dish are incredible and so unique—unlike anything I’ve eaten prior! Be sure to try the vegetable samosas and definitely order a drink while you eat!
Friendly service. The food was fresh and delicious, however, it is not very authentic. The spice mixes used in the dinner courses were toned down, probably to cater to a wider variety of customers. Not the best place to satisfy your tastebuds for authentic Pakistani/Indian cuisine, but a great restaurant for good food and ambience.
Food was awesome but at the end I was still hungry lol.
One of the best chicken curry I tasted around Kansas was here. The lamb khorma was good too. You can get some classic atmosphere as well along with some delicious authentic Pakistani Indian food.
Great food, great service.
Nice place. Modern. Excellent Indian and Pakistani food. Great service. Bring your palate!
Wonderful fresh food with courteous and friendly service. I especially love their creamy lentil soup that has a slight kick of heat. Sooo good on a chilly rainy afternoon. Had that with chicken samosa today for lunch and found myself doing a slight appreciative groan.
Service was fine, but the food made me sick. Though I must say tea was great.
One of my favorite restaurants to visit! Nice location, fantastic music, intimate atmosphere, and best of all....PINK CHAI! If there's any questions you have about the menu, friendly staff are happy to help you out. Just remember, this is AUTHENTIC Indian; you won't find find any British tikki masala here! Take a chance on something new, you'll find something to love!
Food and service both are good but if you are with big appetite then you have to order more than one meal.
Great food. Friendly staff
Everything is wonderful !!! Food and service
Upon inquiring about the food 20 minutes after ordering (while being served our beverage order), the manager/server replied “this isn’t a fast food restaurant”. Sheesh! This is my fifth time here and the food here is always amazing but the service is always pathetic. Took a while, but lesson learnt - sticking to carry out next time!
Great food and a fine dining place. Staff and the owner are very professional. Dont miss the mango shake, always a favorite at our household.
Chai Shai is one of the few restaurants I've found that serves Pakistani food. Their rooh avza is delicious! Definitely try that as a drink, it's very refreshing. I had ordered Nihari with Naan and it was pretty yummy!
Nice place to enjoy a meal or read a book. Atmosphere is comfy and relaxing. Food is good. Love the mango smoothie. Parking available on side street and small lot to side of building.
Small portions for $20 and the food looks better than it actually tastes. I had a dinner plate and to be honest the Taj Mahal has a better buffet than this place has main entrees.
Unmatched atmosphere. Unique dining experience and food to match. A must do.
Hidden gem for Indian cuisine. Excellent food and service.
Quaint little restaurant nestled in Brookside. The service was great, the food even better. The beef samosas were wonderful, but the masala tea was a highlight for me. I ordered the lamb daal for my entree and the lamb was very tender and flavorful. The menu is limited but the quality is
Chai Shai is AMAZING! One of my new FAVORITES!!
Food is good but a bit pricey for the quantity they give. Very limited options.
Delicious food and nice atmosphere!
Worst experience ever. Plate size is too much small for an adult. If you wanna throw your money into water then only you should visit this restaurant.
Simply fabulous! Their signature chicken dish was probably one of the best I've ever eaten!
LOVE IT!!! I could eat there for food for every meal! Always fresh always amazing! Worth the waite!!
I've been going here since they opened in 2011. Always great food and service!
We have been coming to Chai Shai since our daughter discovered it several years ago. We have never been disappointed! Today, we were particularly impressed with the Man shake and the spicy corn appetizer. We will be back!
Chai Shai is hands down my favorite place to eat. Their Samosas are insane. And the service and the owner is very personable. I haven't been there in 6 months and he remembered my name. I would recommend this establishment to everyone.
Made to order delicious food.
Cute, quiet little place to get a bite to eat with a friend!
The shimosas are phenomenal! Best in Kc! Other food isn’t as delicious as many other similar restaurants. Tastes healthy so that’s a plus for your body!
Compact, pricey and delicious will be the first three things you will notice. Ambience gives you the feel of rusty old and cozy house during the winters at night. Chaats are the must try. Order the plates for a decent meal, although the quantity is less. It's more about quality than quantity
This place is the best indian food I've ever had. I will 100% be back as soon as possible. The food is more authentic than any other indian food place ive been. I Highly recommend this place
Good food. My only critique is that the curry was watery and not thick and creamy like I'm used to. But the appetizers were excellent and the atmosphere was great. I will be back again!
Nice food end nice srivce
Polite, friendly, good food ...what more would you want ?
The service was great! The food was done quick, and it tasted delicious!!! I can't wait to go back!!
They service was friendly and prompt, the food was quite good. Spicy but not overpowering. The Chai was spicy and hot, great on a cold night.
Chai Shai is an excellent example of how traditional Pakistani cuisine can be preserved and elevated. Serving a short list of regular menu items, Chai Shai has created some spectacular dishes, rich in flavor and every bit as good as any fine dining experience. Weekend off menu specials round out the selections and add that little extra something that will have you looking forward to the end of the week.
Great food, ambience, and amazing service. Our server was Zack and we were impressed by his multi-lingual skills. He had a humble smile while serving us. Highly recommended if you’re wanting to be somewhere to just chill and enjoy the weather as they also have arrangement for outdoor sitting.
Dudes, best curry omelette ever
They are exteamly rude to Afican Americans.
The owner was rude! We were the only customers in the restaurant when our story started. We sat close to the stereo and had a little sleepy infant. The music was too high, so we asked a host to decrease the sound. She nicely did that. Suddenly, we were shocked by the owner when he came telling us that he is the owner of the restaurant and ordered us to not touch the sound system!! We told him that you should have asked your people because they did it without asking you!! He even didn't say sorry, increased the sound, and woke up our baby! The food is good and hosts very nice, but the price is very high and the owner is not professional. Sorry, but 4.5 rate is very high to a restaurant with an experience like this.
The beef samosas appetizer were very yummy. Great place for lunch.
Food is good. Nice and cozy place. A bit pricey though.
Cute restaurant in a nice neighborhood. Food was fantastic and very flavorful, however, service at lunch took over 45 mins. We weren't in a hurry, but I would have been a more pleasant experience with faster service.
I am a traveler, love there food and presentation, Amazing
Lovely neighborhood restaurant the Brookside area. The wait staff was courteous and promptly allowed me to take a seat in the restaurant during the lunch hour. The menu was small but offered a number of options for both the meat lover and the vegetarian. The food was very tasty and used fresh ingredients. I ordered an iced tea with my meal. It was very flavorful but didn't pair well with my dinner. Next time, I'll try the mango drink. I look forward to going back again and trying other dishes.
Beautifully presented food. Less menu items and no fuss. As Pakistani i loved the Pakistani food and their presentation style, may be restaurants in Pakistan may learn from them and catch up. The owner was very courteous. My only criticism was the Kashmiri tea was not good tasting. Please work on that.
Amazing samosa and chai in the morning. Great price too.
Used to be very good. 5 Star but they are keeping up with the taste but have reduced the quantity. We usually pack left over but now we have to leave half stomach or buy more appetiser and dessert.
Great taste, awesome music and not so expensive! We had Achari Chicken, Masala Paneer along with Mango shake. Everythimg was very delicious. Totally recommended!
Nice, cozy place! The staff were very sweet and attentive. I had the Achsri chicken and it was excellent! Loved it!
This place is very nice. Staff is courteous and the food is great. We ordered an appetizer sampler plate which was yummy and then we ordered lamb korma and lamb dal. Everything was delicious!! My only complain portions were too small. I wish we had some leftovers to take home and eat as a mid night snack
Great service and the food was delicious. The iced tea and mango shakes were amazing
Love this place!! Great small bites. Bigger city atmosphere. A little pricey.
Wonderful food. Absolutely delicious down to every detail!
In the winter this place is the best to get a hot cup of Kashmiri chai you will not find anywhere else in Kansas city. And in the summer you have to get the minty lemonade thing they made. I am forgetting what its called but its a fizzy lemon drink with lots of mint muddled in it. its so refreshing.
It is wonderful. Calm Music.. beautiful tables and dishes...attentive owners.. delicious food.
It simply amazing food. Whenever I'm in town from Texas, I absolute MUST stop by. They have the Best Veggie Samosas I have EVER tasted. Nobody's Chicken Biryani comes close to their's. Its made with love and marinated in perfection. And lastly my sweet/savory addiction is the Halva Cholay....see picture below....
I love Chai Shai! It's such a great restaurant. First, the ambiance is just right. It's chill, not too bright, and they play great music. Obviously, the food is what keeps us coming back. For the most part, it is consistently great. I don't love the naan, but everything else is delicious. Also, the owner is a great guy and his staff are always friendly but not aggressive like many other restaurants are these days. I like the concept of going to the front to order, you don't feel as pressured to hurry through your meal. Overall, great place and I'm glad to have it in KC.
I want to give them more than 5 starts. Like a 100! Bless you guys. I am more than thankful to you for the delicious food.
Such wonderful food. Everything fresh and delicious.
I've been coming here for years and the food is always top notch! The menu is evidently small for a reason - to ensure they only turn out the best meals. The staff & owner have always been courteous and pleasant to be around.
Best Indian food around Kansas!! I loved the papdi chat and gajar aloo.. my friends had chicken samosas and main dishes with lamb and they were also really good. Do try the pink chai or masala chai and mango shake...
One of My favorite places to eat.
Authentic Indian cuisine. I was very satisfied with my dish. The lamb was cooked very well and the spices were perfect. I will highly recommend eating here.
