Really enjoyed our visit. Sat at the bar for Happy Hour. Wine for my beautiful wife and gluten free beer for me (thank you B&L for carrying GF beer) and a very delicious bowl of Poutine ($6). Quick visit, well be back. Bartender and staff were great.
Wonderful dinner options with perfect wine pairings. The homemade ice cream was amazing even though it was 20 degrees out! A new KC fave!
The drinks were delicious and the bar tender was very conversational and friendly! Can't wait to go back to try the food!
Great food and drinks!
Great foid fast service highly recommend
Love the 20’s style decor and atmosphere. I’ve dined here on several occasions and the food is always delightful. Great burger, delicious apps and a nice patio.
Good food with wide variety of selections on the menu. Service is fast and friendly too. Oysters sometimes available and seem fresh.
KC Restaurant Week. Packed but fast and correct. Friendly service. Yummy and filling food. Great value.
Cool place except for the pornography above the bathroom sink in the men's room
Food was good..but the service was slow. We had our food almost eaten before they came to check on us. Might have just been a bad day, but I'll be trying a new place next time.
Fabulous! I loved every sip and bite. I had the pork belly starter, shrimp and grits, and plum cobbler. I highly recommend them all, along with the sangria which is some of the best outside of Spain.
Gouda Mac and Cheese... Fabulous! Beautiful place!
Friendly staff and good meatloaf. Green beans were awesome! The Mac and cheese looked good and my coworker gave rave reviews.
This place is always incredible; even in the midst of Restaurant Week we were seated quickly and were promptly waited on by a wonderful waitress. I ordered my favorite item on the menu (double dipped Nashville hot chicken, you have to try it. Not too hot, just perfect) and it was sitting in front of me within 15 minutes (even though the entire restaurant was full). Great service, great food, great people; this place is one of my favorites in KC for a reason, give it a shot and find out for yourself.
Good food, but not spectacular. I wouldn't ever protest going here, but I wouldn't suggest it either. There are vegetarian options.
Mushrooms b&g was super good!!
If you want to a casual place to hang out with good food and bar this is your place.
I ordered the catfish it seemed overcooked a little bit because the pieces were so small but overall I enjoyed it. especially love the homemade ice cream on top of a brownie
Great atmosphere and great food. The Buttermilk chicken sandwich was a big hit! The chicken fried chicken was great. Whiskey smash and hot buttered rum was really good and the tres leches cake was out of this world. Already planning our next visit!
The food is fabulous! It was packed the night we were there and service was slow - they were understaffed that night. The noise level is off the charts! - the outdoor patio in nice weather would be more relaxing!
We love this lovely restaurant! The food is always excellent! The service is always excellent! The cocktails and the patio are wonderful!!
Have enjoyed everything I have tried. Cocktails are good also.
Good food, good coffee. Donut holes with chocolate sauce were tasty. Unique menu, not a run of the mill breakfast/brunch place.
Happy hour is great! Large choice of cocktails with different liquers and delicious appetizers priced reasonably. Our first bartender was slow and not very knowledgeable or would have given more stars. Will go back.
Enjoyed dining here. Great location in City Market right at the end of the street car route, which is free in Kansas City and runs until midnite. Cocktails were fantastic, although it did take some time to receive them after ordering each round. Restaurant was not busy, so not sure what the holdup was all about. Tried the calamari, butter bean humus, and the lavosh for starters. All were very good. For the entree, tried the paella, it is loaded with seafood. Ordered the brownie and key lime pie for dessert. No wonder I need to drop 10 pounds! Great atmosphere, service spot on.
Decided to venture down to the River Market and give Brown & Loe a try for restaurant week. I'm glad I added it to my want to try list! Started off the meal with their smoked chicken noodle soup and some fried calamari. Both of which were excellent! The soup made for a great starter on this chilly evening. We proceeded to follow that up with the gouda Mac & cheese with grilled chicken and also the chicken fried chicken. The Mac was gooey and had an excellent texture and flavor. Highly recommend it if you're a Mac & cheese fan! The chicken fried chicken was wonderful as well and had a side of goat cheese mashed potatoes which were surprisingly good! Finished the meal off with some cheese cake ice cream with caramel drizzle and a chocolate stout brownie. So flavorful! If you haven't, make the trip down to the River Market and stop in for dinner! Ah, don't forget to try an Italian cream soda as well!
The torta it's amazing
Great food, excellent service, outstanding vegitarian options.
I love this place! Good vibes, fun drink menu, the food is always fresh and amazing. Their dinner specials are always fantastic. The staff is great at letting you relax and enjoy your meal there, not rushing you out for the next customer. They make a great Pimm's Cup but I really enjoy the Deep Purple. Brunch and dessert are great too. Go often and try everything.
Dependable quality, great ambiance.
My wife didn't love Brown and Loe's take on Pumpkin Soup but I was a huge fan of their Mac and cheese with grilled chicken! Service was excellent. Empty drinks were refilled faster than most places! Food arrived quickly too! All staff interactions were friendly. Hard to beat the location. I didn't notice an excess of volume like some of the other reviews. We could easily carry on conversation without needing to raise our voices. This was during dinner on a Saturday night. We'll certainly be back to try some other menu options!
Menu is ambitious but does not deliver. Boar ribs were dry and sat atop a piece of dry cornbread. The ribs were already sauced with a red Q sauce, but listed as a white sauce, which was plopped on the plate, I guess for double saucing. Chicken wings were overcooked, but the gorganzola dipping sauce was nice. that sauce should have been served with the flavorless and unseasoned house chips, cause the pimento dip was a waste of time. The meat and cheese platter came with cheddar and smoked Gouda, ham, salami, boring. Won't last if the food quality is not checked.
Located at the edge of the River Market with easy access to the street car. Lunch/ breakfast choices were great. Pumpkin soup, donut holes with a delicious chocolate dip, chicken salad sandwich, egg and sausage sandwich and much more that we didn't get to try. Waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely return.
What a great place. Great service and cocktails.
Enjoyable modern diner. I have been a few times and gotten, the pork belly hash, breakfast sandwich, shrimp and grits, loco moco. All were delicious, pork belly hash being my favorite so far. Their coffee and cocktails were great too, no complaints about service or food. Love the decor and from their porch seating you can look into the rivermarket area which is fun to people watch.
I got the sausage biscuits and gravy and it was a garnish of sausage (no joke-- look at the pic), so I had order more sausage.
Really cool building. Wonderful bar. Have sat outside more often than inside but it's worth walking around to see the interior. Food is pretty much what'd you'd expect, it's basically a dressed up version of Harry's up the street. I find it a bit overpriced.
Nice environment and great staff
Calamari was excellent. I also had the Nashville hot chicken which was a touch on the greasy side, but still very good
Great location, parking was easy. Lovely ambience and great customer-service. Great chicken salad sandwich and the best brussels sprouts; even if you don't eat them please try. They don't even taste like brussels sprouts; very crunchy and delicious. Fun place to enjoy food.
Always a wonderful time and the food is fresh and delightful ♥️
I am giving this place five stars, because I eat out a lot and I've never had bad food or a bad experience here. This is a go to lunch spot for me and one of the most consistently good experiences in Kansas City.
We've been to Brown & Loe twice now- once for brunch, and once for dinner. Both meals were delicious, and the location's great- we love the River Market area. Service is always attentive; the people-watching is diverting. The only complaint I have is that the room (if you sit inside) is very noisy-be sure you get a booth! Even then you may find it hard to make intimate conversation. All in all, though, a wonderful place to meet frjends, and launch, or end, an exploration of the Market.
Went for happy hour. Good food and drink. Only concern is the amount of time it took to get drinks filled. Well over 15 minutes after they were ordered before they came out.
The drinks and food were delicious. The service was attentive. The atmosphere is classy but not pretentious. I will definitely be back! If you're adventurous, try the Purple Mist.
Great food, great service! The staff are passionate about the food. Try the summer squash soup - it was amazing. Calamari and hush puppies were also delicious. Cocktails were good, if a little pricey. New menu coming after 10/11/19!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. I've never really been an affogato fan but theirs is delicious. And that was just dessert!
The interior and exterior are beautiful. The menu had a wonderful selection of dishes. Take someone there for lunch under the umbrella on a sunny summer day.
The service was wonderful and the environment was so nice.
Best steak in the city hands down !
This restaurant is right around the corner from my workplace and that makes me a lucky guy. Their M&C is amazing and today I had a steak sandwich on sourdough that was out of this world. Keep up the good work.
Service was pretty terrible. Food was good though
Had brunch with my family here after visiting the farmers market. Came on a recommendation from a friend. Great service and good food. A little pricey, but it was tasty.
We stopped in here for an anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. I had the chicken with mashed potatoes in a butter sauce. Yes it was not the healthiest dish but it did not leave me feeling weighed down. Plenty of healthy options and the prices were reasonable. Service was fine given it was as pretty busy. Will be coming back!
Great place! Great food, good service, friendly people.
Fantastic every single time we go... great atmosphere, people, and food!
Loved this place! Our waitress was great and the manager took care of a minor issue with the food for us nicely. Would come back 100 times over.
I love this place. Food, service, and atmosphere is top notch.
Went for restaraunt week. Nice atmosphere and food was good.
Very reasonably-priced for the quality of food. Also, our server (Martin, I think?) was incredibly kind and efficient.
Wonderful service paired with wonderful food! The menu is not too expansive, but the items our table got were outstanding!
We loved the food here and the atmosphere during brunch. The smoked chicken noodle soup is the best chicken soup I've ever had. The avocado toast was absolutely delicious. Highly HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who comes to Kansas City.
Wow, can't believe I overlooked this gem right in the rivermarket! It was just crowded enough on a Saturday night, a little loud but exciting. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu- it blew me away. I think his name was Martin. He helped me decide between the salad and butternut squash dish. He has amazing attention to detail to help make my decision easy! He was also unobtrusive and didn't rush us out even though we stayed awhile. The B&L salad was amazing. I got the smaller size and it was plenty for me. The toppings and dressing made it exciting. Lettuce was super fresh as well. I also had the pumpkin soup, which smelled and tasted amazing. I love it and can't wait to take my fiancé here next time he's in town!
Nice place. Been twice now. Food is average but the atmosphere is nice and intriguing. Service has been good. Wont be running back anytime soon but wont say no if a friend wants to go.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! Delicious, delicious, delicious food and fabulous service by friendly, helpful people. The mixed drinks are awesome, the desserts are awesome, the building is awesome. I've been here twice in a month and can't wait to go back. Next time will be for their famous Sunday Brunch!
Delicious food, great service
Great atmosphere. Even better food. Monday burger+beer and Thursday chicken dinner are a great deal!
Beautiful building, atmosphere and amazing food.
Food was great, even my picky eaters in the family were pleased. A little loud, but good atmosphere and pleasant staff. Great food.
Friendly service and some unique and tasty food choices. I had a wonderful soup.
Potato kale soup was amazing....very relaxed cool and sexy atmosphere...and service was great! Very cool items on the menu...great selection and prices!! Would definitely go back!
Go. Great bar and wonderful food.
Great place for lunch and brunch. Food is good. Classy but not stuffy environment. Great for business meetings.
Love the ambience!! Dtkc finest
Food is excellent. The service was superior and waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Great place to bring out of town guests and is right off the streetcar.
Good place and atmosphere. Service is fast.
An inventive and exciting menu of comfort style food. Outdoor seating is available. Indoors was a bit noisy. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive.
Really cool atmosphere and delicious food.
Had dinner there last night. Good food. Good service. Good happy hour specials. I had fairly high expectations and they were met. I'll be back sometime to try lunch and the goat cheese mash.
My girlfriend Maggi and I were celebrating her retirement, we shared a bottle of wine, I ordered the meatloaf and Maggi had the crispy Pork Shank. Both were full of flavor. Great Place
Couldn't asked for a better experience! Great waiter, excellent food and the best patio spot in River Market. Started the meal with a delicious hummus app and for dinner ate GOUDA Mac N cheese with Shrimp. It was additional $$ to add any protein you wanted to the dish. But all their protein seemed to be of high quality. Can't wait to go back !
The Tenderloin sandwich with fries was very good.
Great drink made by request!!!!
Absolutely fantastic dining experience for dinner. From the scallops and mussels for appetizers, to the chicken fried chicken and homemade ice cream for dessert, this restaurant goes above and beyond in creating food and an overall dining experience that is second to none. Service was quick and polite. Wonderful, historic building in a great location. I will definitely be back very soon to try the brunch!
We came during KCRW. So obviously things were hectic but this business handled it like a PRO. We were seated at 12:02 and by 12:34 we were already enjoying our second course , and yet, nothing felt rushed. The food was delicious, the servers were fantastic, we were very very happy!
Was pretty good. Has some good food and drink options. Will go again when in the area.
The Mac and cheese with chicken was fantastic! The pumpkin soup was ok, and the Brussel sprouts were ok. Very good service. Gorgeous historic interior. Would go back!
Traveling to Kansas City? Dig on this cafe/bar. When traveling a new scene, city or region, it's the cafes I search first. "We can get carried away with our heads in books, and although there's so much to be learned from that, I think sitting in a cafe and speaking with someone - whatever it is, their mannerisms, their choices, are just as valuable as any class you can go to." Rose McIver knows what's up. And where better to indulge the body and mind among good company and better food than @brownandloe? I'm mildly obsessed, can't deny it. Who's down for a cocktail and conversation, I'll be at @brownandloe until they kick me out
Everytime I've been here, I've found something delicious to eat! The atmosphere is wonderful and they have lots of drink options. It's also one of the few places in the city where you can get some pierogi!
Fun lunch. Great food, we had fish tacos, club sandwich for lunch. Wine and calamari were perfect. Our waitress El was absolutely perfect! Headed back soon!
Great place for happy hour drinks!
Very diverse menu. Food was excellent. Fair prices. Good service. I'de would definitely recommend this restuarant to a friend.
Great brunch menu on Saturdays
Great food and service, a little loud but everything was great!
Very diverse brunch menu. The potato pancakes were phenomenal. They were so accommodating, too. My fiance was having a very particular craving for biscuits and gravy with fried chicken. While biscuits and gravy were on the menu, fried chicken was not. Our waitress asked the chef, and since they weren't too busy this particular brunch day, he whipped us up what we were craving! It was delicious! We would definitely recommend, and it is a great place for foodies to discover something different.
Locally sourced meat and produce well prepared. Everything my friends and I tried was excellent.
Every time we’ve eaten here we are blown away with how good the food and cocktails are! We stopped in on Friday to get out of the storm and ordered some classic comfort food, chicken and dumplings and Gouda Mac & Cheese, both were phenomenal!
Good food, interesting space, very attentive staff
Showed up here on a Wednesday afternoon for happy hour with a friend and loved it! Super quaint space with character and history. We sat outside on a nice May day and got a great Rieger Gin and Tonic! No reason for me to not come back.
Ruth, the manager, is amazing. All the meals were good except the steak lacked seasoning. The spaghetti squash, the meatloaf and the pork tenderloin were perfect.
The was my first time visiting. It was late breakfast or brunch time and it was not super busy and were able to be seated pretty quickly. The hostess was very accommodating when we asked for a different area to sit. Though we opted not to sit outside, they do have what looked like a lovely patio area. Order taken by a very attentive server through out the course of our visit. My friend's plate was abundant and the food tasted pretty good. I ordered a simple breakfast plate. On my I guess larger than normal plate, my breakfast didn't look quite as generous as my friends! The rosemary toast - to die for. I never would of thought of that for breakfast. I was totally disappointed in my scrambled eggs, pretty much a fail. Good scrambled eggs are not easy, but at that price I expected better. I probably won't hurry back. The menu looked interesting enough that if I am in the neighborhood I might give them a second shot.
Excellent service! Delicious seafood. Couscous could be better...
Nice lunch! Brisket sandwich with house-made chips. Pleasant outdoor dining with no noticeable traffic noise. Good service, friendly team members.
Excellent drinks in excellent food and excellent staff
Loved the food! Service was great. We sat on the patio and watched the market on a busy Saturday.
Coolest vibe in KC! This restaurant and cocktail bar has Delicious food and drinks, in a great location (right off the streetcar stop!) and with a fantastic and classic diner feel. I’ve had the pierogi and Gouda mac n cheese (see pic), along with several cocktails, and all were tasty. The service is kind of hit or miss but this place is worth checking out. They have a nice patio, and make sure you check out the bathrooms downstairs (they have some really cool old pics).
Amazing food and service, can't wait to go back
Was here on a date. All the food we had was incredibly delicious. We ordered the swordfish tacos, arugula salad, and brussel sprouts. The best part was the espresso martini. So smooth and perfect! Our waitress didn't seem too happy, but she was still helpful and prompt. Atmosphere was nice. A bit loud and echoey when it was busier, but comfortable and pretty nonetheless.
Best food and drink in KC. I have eaten here more times that I can count and every visit there is some new dish that I try and it turns out to be better than the last thing I ordered. Service is awesome. Atmosphere is excellent.
Discovered this on a search for a location to have dinner for a work group of 14. Everyone in the group was so impressed with the location, food and service we received. The staff was so accommodating and genuinely nice. Food was so great and very reasonably priced! I will be coming back with my family!!
Love the quant decor and the food is really solid- great flavor and loved the desserts
The workers are very attentive and seem like they genuinely want to go that extra mile for you. The food is amazing. I've never had a bad experience.
Most tables are small. Salad was very good but would be nice if chopped more and more heart of salad instead of a greens. Burger good, but needs more crisp cindements. Pickle soggy.
Excellent food. Great location and design. Service was exceptional.
Very good biscuits and gravy
First time with my wife. We have the cheese burger. It is really good. We will come back for more.
High expectations were exceeded. Had the Nashville hot chicken on Texas toast and it was incredible. My wife had the excellent trout. Prompt service and great location in the River Market and close to streetcar stops.
Service was slow and inattentive. The food: Chicken and dumplings were average with dumplings as gummy balls of flour. The hot and spicy chicken was hotter than most buffalo wings. The waitress said it was the best thing on the menu. She could have given me a heads up on the level of heat. We won't be going back.
Generally very good. The cooks get lazy toward the end of the night. I had an incredible meals at 6:00 and mediocre meal at 8:30. Atmosphere is awesome: 5/5. No complaints on service: 4/5 food is usually good: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
Great food, great service, every time!
Love this restaurant for lunch.
Really good food. Service was a little slow but the place was packed.
Great service, good food
Meatballs and Mac and Cheese are delicious!
A friend and I ate at Brown and Loe for the first time and I can't wait to go back. We parked in River market in order to catch the street car down to a show at the Midland. brown and Loe is located near a street car stop so we had cocktails and dinner and headed down. Their patio looked amazing for a nice day and the cocktails we had were so so good! We both ordered the special, steak tortas, and I would order it again. I overheard the waitress say her most ordered item is the smoked gouda Mac, so I'm definitely getting that one next time!
I visited again recently, after being very dissapointed on a previous visit some time ago, due to full menu items were not available after 3pm. A very historic feel with a descent menu. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits w/Collards, it was good, but could be better. The shrimp were seasoned and cooked perfectly in a Jambalaya style sauce. This dish had presentation issues. I immediately thought the collards were missing. No! They were hidden on top of the Grits, covered by the Jambalaya sauce, which the unsalted Grits become soggy with liquids from Collards. The choices on menu are varied, such as the Pork Belly Bun, that I will try next trip, because this establishment has excellent potential with a few corrections. Step your game up a notch!
Service is excellent. Food is excellent. Cocktails were great. The Fallen Apple cocktail was wonderful. The Manhatten was excellent. They have a soda machine like an old fashioned drug store for great unique drinks. The bar has an old fashion urban feel. This is probably the best place I have seen downtown for after work drink in the city. It is worth the visit. You will not be disappointed. The food was really good.
Wow this place did such a good job! I had the Salmon and it was cooked to perfection. The scene was beautiful. Very classy. My boyfriend had the pork tenderloin and it was huge. Amazing fries! Definitely coming back. Great service!
Good food and drinks! Wait staff courteous and professional
Went in this afternoon for brunch. Ordered the avocado toast. Frankly, I was blown away. Tasted as great as it looked. Low-key, old city atmosphere, friendly staff, short waiting time between ordering and eating. Simply amazing. Easily one of my favorite places in KC after just one visit. If you're looking for something great to eat, don't pass them up!
Great brunch spot! They have unique menu items and solid cocktails. Good for group gatherings.
I've yet to be disappointed by the food. The menu has wide variety (Nashville hot chicken is phenom). Protip: the coffee bar is cheap and as good if not better than nearby coffee houses. Order a latte, thank me later.
great atmosphere and the food was good, not great but good
The cut of meat was very tough, so we decided to order something else that was under cooked when we ordered well done. The manager/owner was a nightmare! She is a very aggressive human that told us if we didn't like the food the get out. Eeek!!! She needs to go back to Customer Service 101.
We ordered a bowl of the Gouda Mac for the table and it was amazing, you could taste the bacon all the way through the smoked Gouda! I also had the hot chicken and waffles. Easily the BEST chicken and waffles I have ever had. Such an explosion of flavors!
I've been here twice. Loved the food, loved the service, LOVED the cocktails. They are just what your heart is searching for. Plus, it's an old bank, it's absolutely gorgeous.
Very good food, environment, and service. It shows $$ but I would put this a little higher than that.
Great place for drinks after City Market shopping.
Its a great locals bar in the River Market neighborhood. They do a good job on cocktails. It is well worth a visit.
Great food. Long wait.
Wonderful lunch. The soup of the day (gumbo) was fabulous. The wait-staff were super attentive.
Our food was delicious! Wine and drink menu was great. Our server was wonderful and had the best recommendations. We arrived at 5:50 and felt we were not asked about drinks/apps until 6 because happy hour ended at 6. And we were not even approached until exactly 6 :/ (which we didn't even know we got there during happy hour but would have been nice for 1 drink to be happy hour pricing) Without that part of the experience, I would have rated a 5 stars! Will still definitely come back!
I was at Brown & Loe for a work party. The service was really good. We were pretty well taken care of. The buffet was the best I've ever had at something like this. The room is a little awkward for a meeting, but we didn't have a long presentation, so it worked out well for us. I didn't set this up, so I can't compare pricing, but I would definitely recommend the food quality here.
Good food, nice decor, good service.
Had the hot chicken sandwich with white sauce and their homemade pickles. Was so unique and delicious. Will definitely go back.
Good food, great location. Wonderful old building.
Food is fresh and delicious, great flavor. Great menu selection. Servings are a pretty good size. I've only been there twice and loved it both times. Plan to go back again and again.
Great food and outstanding service love this place.
Cool place. Great food, with an excellent bar staff. Very mellow place in the heart of city market that has an excellent atmosphere and even better food.
Went to Brown and Loe with my Mom and sister for a night out to catch up. The restaurant is in an old bank building that looks close to 100 years old. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. The food doesn't cost nearly as much as you'd think for the quality of establishment. I definitely recommend.
The food was fine, but definitely not worth the amount I paid for it. For soft pretzels and chicken mac & cheese (and a beer), it was $40. The decor is fine, the location is great, and the service was fine. Overall, not worth the money.
Delicious food and wonderful service. The spaghetti squash and fried brussel sprouts are my favorite.
This is a very tasty restaurant with good service and a fun atmosphere. The restaurant is housed in an old bank. If you look closely, you can still see some vestiges of the building's former function. Extensive liquor list, phenomenal mac and cheese.
Mediocre food and poor service. We were delivered the wrong appetizer and entrees. Also very loud. Won’t be back anytime soon.
We had a group of 20 people for a holiday gathering. Everyone was very accommodating and the food was excellent! Thank Brown and Loe fot making me look good!
Brown and Leo has a great vibe. The food quality is excellent and service very good. We went as two couples and were treated to unique flavors and hip cocktails. We found the overall experience to be very good! The staff seems to care more than the average place. Thanks Brown and Loe!
The new menu options (Fall 2018) are excellent. As always customer service was impeccable. Started with the Pork belly app...please do not leave without trying this. Cooked perfectly and layered with a cranberry compote atop a grit cake and drizzled with a male syrup (3 per serving). Finished lunch by sharing the smoked turkey salad sandwich or you can just call it Thanksgiving on Wheat. After having tasted this I am so happy I didn't order anything else. So yummy. Easily shared by two people. Get the fries option with it and you will not be disappointed. Thanks for another great lunch success!
Excellent food! Fun atmosphere and great service! Really enjoyed it.
