We've got all the opinions of real people who used the products of Bayleaf Indian Restaurant and Bar (Restaurant) in Kansas area.
Right now the business has a score of 4.5 stars over 5 and the rating was based on 252 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is basically the highest, and it is founded on a high number of reviews, so we may be pretty sure that the rating is very credible. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they are happy, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to place reviews when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is included in the category of Indian restaurant.
I can say it’s one of the best and different restaurants in town. Don’t lose it. The food is so so great.
Wide selection of North Indian cuisine served in a quiet, low-key environment. The food is unimpeachable, but I especially love the staff, who are very familiar with food sensitivities, particularly gluten; they announce their gluten-free options right on the menu. Good for groups that include different dietary restrictions.
This delightful, casual restaurant is one of the reasons why I love coming to Lawrence whenever I drive from Kansas City! Though there are many Indian restaurants in the area, this was my first to "try" in Lawrence, and since then, fell in loved with the establishment. Assorted foods that cater the exotic flavors of India, while catering to vegetarian choices. Do stop by and try the lunch buffet. Food does change daily. The food is prepared fresh by a renowned Indian chef, and is family owned.
Excellent service. Decent prices. Modern decor with soft lighting. Absolutely delicious food with a varied menu.
Plenty of vegan options.
This place is delicious. Their buffet is pretty reasonably priced ($1 cheaper than India Palace across the street) and in my opinion the food is a lot more interesting. They've got a lot of variety on the buffet. All of the food is flavorful and filling but you won't leave feeling like a bloated pig.
Always tasty and delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive.
Delicious!
The restaurants lighting is absolutely fantastic. The presentation of the food was excellent. The food was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The bread was not hard but soft on the inside and flakey on the outside absolutely perfect. I can not think of one negative thing I highly recommend Bayleaf.
Amazeballs
This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back. Everything was perfect and the service was excellent.
Food and atmosphere is great. Speedy service as well.
Ordered a lamb and chicken biryani home. The worst biryani I'v had in my life. Never going to step foot in bayleaf.
Great Sunday buffet, friendly owners.
One of our favorite Lawrence restaurants. Excellent Indian food, including things often left other menus, like pakora and bhaji. Love the staff, too--the owners are lovely hosts.
Food was delicious! The staff was really nice and the price was right!
First time at Bayleaf and it was amazing. The menu is extensive, the lassi we ordered was absolutely delicious, the food was excellent and flavor rich, they were extremely accommodating and super friendly. My husband and I will definitely be back.
Got the lunch buffet in Sunday afternoon. Great food and options. The staff was very friendly.
Came in just to grab a pickup order and the gentleman at the front offered me a seat and a drink while I was waiting. Thinking he was bringing back water I was supprised to get a chai tea and it was delicious! Also tried to pay for it and he wouldn't let me lol
I'm a korma fan and the plate of korma here was edible, but was very bland and was not satisfying. The rice was probably the best part of the plate ;(
The kindest people make the best food!! This buffet is a beautiful and chill experience. Go, go, go!
Love this place! Sunday buffet is great. Butter chicken is amazing!
Great food! The restaurant is very clean and modern. The owner is lovely and super helpful and accommodating of gluten intolerances. We will definitely go there again.
Lots of variety on the buffet. Very tasty.
I love the taste of the food at this restaurant but I cannot recommend that anyone eat here. My girlfriend and I have gotten food poisoning twice from this restaurant. The first time we thought it was a fluke but after the second time we realized there is a serious problem. The second time was the most violently sick I've ever been in my entire life. Obviously there is something wrong with thier food handling practices. I loved their food but will never eat there again and will try to discourage others from eating there as well.
I wanted a new place and we found it. Megan was awesome with recommendations.
Good food, rude waitress
They have more kinds of food. But all very very salty. I can barely taste the food flavours itself. Price is okay. For 3 of us. Buffet is $45 total.
Very nice staff and owner.. But the food i would say its not same all the time.. the food sometime is worst and sometime is good. But they need to learn about spice level. they had best naan so far. When you dine in they charge $2 for 3 pc. papad. Seriouly who would charge for papad?? I think they should serve papad for free many as any one can eat beacuse the food is very pricey.
Terrible customer service. NEVER ORDER TO GO or ONLINE. Waited 2 hours for delivery and when we called to ask about our order the manager was UNBELIEVABLY RUDE!! He said that he could call the driver if we didn’t want our meal but that we’d still get charged. Also told us the driver went to the wrong address but our food was out for delivery for over 45mins. Our order total was around $75 and all the manager would offer as compensation for cold food was a free naan the next time we came to the restaurant. I don’t recommend this restaurant- it’s sure to disappoint!
Authentic food and great service, we were visiting from Chicago and ate at bayleaf the second week after opening. We love Indian food and we wanted to give it a shot. Our order was tandoor chiken and Chiken Tikka Masala. We visited at about 6 pm the place was packed and our food arrived at time. It was delicious; A+ to the food. We will be visiting again soon and will visit Bayleaf.
If you looking to eat Indian food in Lawrence, this is the place to check out
Great atmosphere, great food, and the best staff I've met. Jimmy took great care of us. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any one. Will make the half hour drive again next week to see them again.
Very good food, but not as spicy as other Indian food I have had. Also, there were no chutneys to eat with the Poori and Naan. Very friendly staff and great environment.
Food was very good, with a wonderful variety on the Sunday lunch buffet ... and customer service was excellent.
Great food. Our first experience was excellent. We will go back and bring our friends! I highly recommend
Buffet is okay. The menu is very good.
Fresh! Everything made in house, some of the best Indian cuisine we've had...
Great food
The people who run the place are great ... GREAT FOOD TOO.. ☺️
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and plentiful.
Super good food! Very nice staff.
Great food for a moderate price. Very authentic and very generous with the quality and portion of meat. Great dessert and variety with meat foods, vegan, and gluten free options. Buffet recommended to try all the foods.
Never have I more enthusiastically given 5 stars!! If you like Indian food, you'll love this place. Some of the best I've had!
Very friendly staff, nice clean place. We went on a Tuesday night so it wasn’t very busy. The waitress informed us about happy hour and recommended the veggie samosas for an appetizer (which were delish) and we ordered two dishes and an order of onion naan. The waitress and cook were quick to come back and ask if we are vegan since their naan is not. Very helpful, and we got the onion Roti instead. Several levels of spice here, I’m a whimp so the hot was borderline to hot for me, but my hubby loved it. They go up two more spice levels for the tougher mouths ;)! Definitely worth a try and we will be back.
Some of the staff were very accommodating, others very unhelpful. The food on the buffet is OK.
Best Indian food on Mass street and possibly Lawrence. They have an extensive menu and everything I have tried is very delicious. They have a lunch buffet everyday that I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure it's just as good. The Staff and Owners are great. The food is actually cooked by the owners which I think contributes to the attention to detail in the dishes that are served!
Top notch Indian!
I was given an delicious recommendation (chicken vindaloo and onion naan!) by the owner who was exceptionally friendly and went out of her way in excellent customer service. Way to go, Bayleaf! I cannot wait to come back to try the lunch buffet! Even though it was take out, it’s still the best food I’ve had in Lawrence since moving here!
Recently we went to Bayleaf for the first time and had an amazing experience. When our questions about what was Vegan on the menu started confusing the new waiter, the house manager Nin came over and helped us make decisions, pointing out the dishes that were the best for Vegan eaters. When the food arrived, fresh and hot, not only was it pleasing to the eye, but it woke up my taste buds and gave me little pleasurable shudders as I started eating. The pickled vegetables were succulent and salty and made me want more. I let out little sigh of pleasure while eating the curry. When I tasted the mushroom dish, I could not believe something so exquisite could come out of a kitchen. We lingered over the rice and curry, papadum and roti. The only negative experience was an inexperienced waiter who kept asking if we wanted boxes when it became obvious we were winding down but not leaving. And the other server who, when delivering our food said "this isn't my table, but..." Never a good thing to hear from waitstaff. I hope to make Bayleaf a regular stop when shopping in Lawrence, KS, which is about twice a month. Thank you to the cooks who made such great tasting food, and a house manager who cares about their guests!
We were a part of a large party (11 people) about 1 month ago. Service was excellent. Great atmosphere. All entrees were served in close proximity of the other. I had lamb curry and my husband had goat curry -- and you can request the level of spice -- mild, moderate, and hot. Serving sizes were ample, and most of us were happy to take some left overs home. The naan was REALLY good and plentiful for a small group to share. We don't eat out often, but would consider again for a night out.
Finding that ‘tadka’ in entrees was hard to find in most Indian restaurant in US. However, they have nailed it. My personal favorite is, (off the menu) special Dal Tadka
I had my dinner here last night and the part I realized is that I should not be an Indian to get the attention of people who take order and greet you friendly. The lady was taking extra care for four other parties who came in after me and explaining them about their menu other things. What made me sad was that she didnt even bother to enquire how the food was. This is my last visit to this place and advice Indians to stay off from going to this place.
The food here is spectacular and the service is great! Ask your server for the "vegan cheat sheet menu" to see all the dishes that are vegan friendly :)
Great food, great price. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Worth the drive to Lawrence!
Food was amazing and the sweetest owner! What a great night. Thumbs up for sure.
The best Indian food for miles around. Makes that joint across the street look like McDonald's. Very friendly staff, and very willing to accommodate special requests. Love this place!
Look, I know KC is just a stone throw away but this is in my opinion hands down the best Indian restaurant in the area including Kc. And it's well priced I suggest the dinner for 2.
Pretty good place.
Excellent food. Chicken Curry, Garlic Naan, and Mango Lassi were excellent. Their Bayleaf house soup was the best Indian soup I've ever had. Nice atmosphere and staff.
Amazing food and great staff! When you ask for it to be spicy, they actually make it spicy! Great curry, great naan. Love the setting and the experience.
The staff including the Owner were all incredibly kind and happy to provide suggestions. The food, from the naan to the entrees and the deserts, were all wonderful. What's more, for the quality of service and food, Bayleaf is amazingly priced. Highly recommend if you have any interest in Indian food!
loved the food.
Food was good and spicy.
Spur of the moment birthday dinner choice. Now #1 Lawrence lunch/dinner spot. Service is excellent. Ask for Megan, her recommendations are spot-on.
Authentic Indian food
Wonderful food, the owners are delightful!
This place is off the charts compared to the Indian Palace restaurant. So glad that someone came around to give them competition. The other place is decent, but the freshness of Bayleaf can't be beat! I'm so sincerely glad they are in Lawrence! Everything I've tried on the menu so far is top notch and I'm just going to keep making my way through it. Honestly, just go and you won't regret it!
Great selection and service!
Best lndian restaurant I have ever been to! BEST BEST BEST
The food is amazing and service is great!
Awesome experience. The owners are incredibly encouraging and individually visited each table not just to check in, but also get to know about the guests. Great service and meal recommendations. Definitely helped me broaden my taste comforts and tried new excellent meals
Friendly staff good food
Love this place...great wings
Comfort food indeed. Cameron was my server and he was very attentive and knowledgeable about Indian food. Eat here! Ask for Cameron!
delicious sunday buffet - a great alternative to those too-crowded-for-Sunday-brunch locales nearby.
Good service and food, if a bit pricey. Their coconut curry is the best, however there's a better Indian restaurant right across the street
Only good Indian Restaurant in Lawrence. But all you get is North Indian Cuisine
Really great food and service. The chicken tikka masala is delicious! I will definitely return next time I'm in town.
Great food, and very helpful, friendly staff
50% of the buffet was tasty. The other half was either burned things or tasted bad.
Very good Indian food.
Best Indian lunch buffet around. They are constantly improving their quality. Mango lassi is a must.
I was EXTREMELY hesitant to go as I am not a fan of Indian cuisine...usually. This was well done though, not overly spiced like so often happens and great selection of food (I went for the buffet) the proprietor was attentive without being a bother. I'd recommend it and I'd go back I'm glad my friend talked me into going. Also the restaurant was very clean.
The absolutely best Indian I've ever had
Family run Indian buffet ^^
My daughter and I had a truly AMAZING meal tonight at Bayleaf. The service was very good, the food was heavenly. The owner asked us about our likes and dislikes as well as food allergies before suggesting the perfect dishes to us as we are new to Indian food. She even suggested Aloo Tikka that was an off menu item and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for a great meal! We will be back!
Amazing! Went for the lunch buffet. Best Indian food my husband and I have experienced yet!
We went for the buffet around 11:30am. All the food was out and hot! We had, among other things, rice, naan, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, kormas, daal, potatoes and veggies, and more! The mint chutney was amazing, and I'm really particular about that. They also had soup but it was too hot for me to try, but the people I went with liked it! Kind staff, well worth the price ($12) for lunch.
Paradise!!!
We were well taken care of and some of the best food I've ever experienced in my life. They are sure to be put on the map and a must have to try. A new regular spot for sure!
Appetizer plate was over fried and tasteless. Sauce containers were only partially filled.
Always great food here, and great customer service!
Hands down the BEST Indian restaurant in Lawrence! Everything and I mean every single thing was great! My friend talked me into trying The Bayleaf a few days ago and I've been a loyal Indian Palace patron for years.... WELL WORTH THE TALKING INTO! I was not disappointed in anything. The food is fresh, hot, perfectly seasoned and spiced. Nothing was bland or one noted. They had a wide selection on their lunch buffet meat and vegatarian options. You get chai tea and.mango and plain lassie included in your meal. The music and atmospbere were up beat and relaxing. The woman who's recipies are used was sitting in the restaurant the first time I went! Lunch buffet is cheap! Very clean establishment and im the type of person who checks lol The waiter was so polite and friendly I just loved him! I have been back two times this week and plan to go on Saturday too! I'm hooked!
Great Food
I went there because I like to try new restaurants. When I stepped in this one, everything feels ok, the menu is simple and the price of the food was suggesting a good service. I was sitting by the window. The curtain was really dirty, dust and dried out rice was sitting on there. The. I looked closely at the table, utensils, napkin. Everything feeler so cheap. Then my dish came. The food taste ok but the presentation of those food was terrible. Service was not professional. My server came after I finish my meal and my water cup was empty. She didn't took my plate and didn't even bother to fill my water cup. Two star is for that ok food
Good indian food , great service
Food is good, but service is terrible. Male manager, or maybe owner, treated staff poorly when my to go order wasn't made, then blamed me saying I probably ordered at Indian palace. After my online order was located, he was unexcusably rude to staff again. They in turn were very rude to me. I was offered no apology or explanation after my order was found, I sat down as he went to the kitchen to do what I presume was make my food, I didn't know, because nothing was said to me. They didn't even offer me water while I waited an extra 30 minutes past the promise time. Last time I ordered online or to go. Dining in, I have now for the second time had extremely poor service. Rude waitress, does that respond, doesn't really seem to want to be there, and only became amicable when the check was brought. On the bright side, the food is good! The customer service experience really kills that; fortunately they have a lunch buffet that is primarily self serve, so you can enjoy the food with minimal contact with wait staff!
Excellent place to eat, the owners are great, the food is well prepared and filling some of the best food I’ve had in a long time.
Just ordered a meal from here for carryout. It did take about 15 minutes longer than they told me but I was quick to forgive: The food here is just amazing!! Addictive really.
The food is excellent! Definitely nothing out of a box, all homeade, the fresh pita bread was the star for me! Plus a cozy family owned environment, they took excellent care of us. Great price for the wide variety of items on the buffet, including lots of vegetarian/vegan options.
The best Indian restaurant in Lawrence, I ate there 3 times this week , and I couldn't complain. The food was delicious, the decorations is modern, and the servers are really nice to us .
Excellent food selection and ambience! I love the food and the location is also great
Great friendly service, excellent food!
The buffet food was bland and barely warm.
I tried buffet and dinner at this place...liked the service...the food was okay though.
Good place
Excellent customer service and food! This place has one of the best Indian food I've ever tasted!! Everything that we've tried on the menu is super delicious!! Their food always surprises us! Had an issue with one of the orders and they resolved it immediately. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves Indian food.
Our family loves Bay Leaf in Lawrence. The buffet always has something different for us to try. We have had Indian across the country but struggle to find any place as good as Bay Leaf. Many other places will just have the same few dishes out on the buffet. I feel Bay Leaf does a great job of mixing in some new stuff along with dishes that keep us coming back. My 9 yr old request Bay Leaf everytime we ask her where she wants to eat. I love the fish dishes. They had a yogurt masala last time I was there that was outstanding. It's a clean place, you can see into the kitchen. They are always friendly. It's a large place and we have never had to wait for seating. If had had to say something negative it would be that in the summer it can be a bit too cold. It seems to just be in the booths where the A/C blows down at them. If they have other open tables they have always been willing to move us. We have just learned which tables will be cold. Food is great. Service is great Quality and cleanliness is great Atmosphere is ok I have never been disappointed at Bay Leaf.
The food was amazing, and I felt very well taken care of by the staff. They have so many options for naan!
Spectacular food. Had the privilege of meeting the owners myself and they are wonderful people. I ordered the dinner special and got a wide variety of tasty dishes. Usually when you go to Indian restaurants the food tends to not be spicy enough. The shrimp curry I received was just the amount of kick I needed and more. If you want to do this food justice make sure to order it extra spicy.
The food was great.
Amazing customer service. I am vegan and had trouble deciding on a dish and the waitress as well as the owner were very comitted to making sure my meal was perfect. We also ordered garlic naan, however they were out of fresh garlic and they refused to use "fake garlic" on their food. They clearly care imendously for their customers and the quality of their food.
Wonderful variety and items not at most Indian restaurants. Great buffet. Competitively priced, friendly staff.
We waited almost 2 hours for our food last night even though we were a group of only 6 people. Then even 3 of us got our food and 3 were still unserved. When the other three entrees arrived the first three were rather cold. Then my "no spice" entree was clearly highly spiced. Another at the table was the same--requested mild but too spicy for her. I have been there before with no problems but this was a disaster on a special night. You wil have a hard time convincing me to go back.
Excellent food, a little pricy.
Varied buffet that includes the standard fare, lassi and milky chai. Good for groups and people new to Indian food.
Great lunch buffet. Not nearly as tightly packed seating as nearby competition.
We were a group of 20aprox...we ordered for chicken biriyani which tasted like tomato rice .prawn kabab came as a gravy with way toooo much turmeric.naan was good mesi roti not that good...i wd like them to dine in ruchi indian resturant and compare with their taste....
Service is very slow but food is good
We were seated instantly. Waited 10 mins for water, and another couple was seated behind us. 10 more mins go by, and the waitress takes the order of the people behind us, who were seated after us. 10 more mins go by and the appetizers they had ordered had come out. We had no waiter or waitress take any orders from us at this point. We got up and went across to India Palace and was instantly sat and our orders taken and appetizers on the table within 10 mins. Much better choice
Delicious food and good service, I recommend everyone to go and try the best Indian food in Lawrence.
Friendly staff and good food but it's not as spicy as Indian food... Some of the curries are too sweet...
This was my first time visiting an Indian restaurant and I loved it. Great food and atmosphere. I left feeling happy and calm
Fantastic ambience, some of the best Indian fare, and by far the best gulab jamun I have ever had.
Server acted like she would rather be anywhere else in the world. Made a half-assed attempt at greeting us, then came back about 5 minutes later and asked if everything was ok. We told her we've never been there before, she basically said "Oh. There's the buffet." The food on the buffet was mediocre, none of it was fresh. Some of it was probably decent when it was fresh. If this place is still open next year at this time, I'll go in and eat my shoe and take down this review. Go to India Palace for your Indian fix.
Ordered shrimp biryani. It had too much fennegreek, and a very few tiny little shrimp. Never again.
Decent food, not bad at all. The buffet price is more when compared to quality and variety of food though.
Food is delicious
No joke, this place came to play...and they are winning.
I was so hopeful and really looking forward to a good Indian restaurant here in Lawrence. But alas, it was not to be. The crispy cracker bread we ordered was quite good. I've not been charged for it in very many places, though, and they charge for it. It took forever for our order to come out. I ordered a goat dish, and while I know there are bones in goat, the meat was tough and undercooked and consisted mostly of sharp bone shards and gristle. The sauce was waaaaay over-salted. We were a table of four there for a birthday celebration. One of the owners spent at least a half hour with a chair pulled up to the table next to us and didn't say more than a couple of words to us. The nan arrived cold and greasy. The rice was cold. We ran up quite a bill, and gave the waiter a decent tip since he kept our drinks filled and it wasn't his fault that we waited so long for our order. Won't be going back.
Always fabulous. Good spice heat and they always aim to please your heat level. Clean delicious flavor that is not weighed down with ghee. The menu is huge and they are always working on something new, be it bread, main course or drinks. Wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly. This place is always a treat.
Great veg & non-veg options with a variety of spice levels. If you're not sure what you like, go by for their lunch buffet for a great rotating selection. Best Indian food in town hands down.
So many delicious options!
Food is delicious! !
Great Indian food.
Worth visiting this place.. Excellent ambiance, food quality, friendly staff -- definitely will visit there again. Pls. try there Madras soup, fantastic!
We have been here twice and liked it both times. I am vegetarian. Spouse is omnivore. Both of us leave happy.
Solid Indian buffet
Food is great and staff are great!
The staff is wonderful, and the buffet is to die for. I just wish they accepted more credit cards!
Not great but not bad.
Ate at the buffet for lunch. $60 for the four of us. Good food, good service, great atmosphere.
Super nice people and the food is very good, the owner always remembers us.
So so good
Very high quality of food...not your average indian buffet!
I've never had a bad experience here and there service is the best in town.
One of the best restaurants in Lawrence, period. The food is excellent and the owners are delightful. Highly recommended!
Great Service, good food, personalized feel. Overall a great Indian dining experience
Went for the Sunday lunch buffet. It was clean, fresh, and hot. There were plenty of vegetarian options available, too. And as always, the lassi was incredibly delicious!
I came here on the recommendation of local specific looking for vegetarian food. Most of their food is vegetarian, with some gluten-free and some vegan. I thought the food was neither too spicy or bland. This is a good place to go.
We had the most amazing meal! The butter chicken was the best I've had, and the fish vindaloo waa quite spicy and flavorful! The only things better than the food is the service and atmosphere.
Excellent cuisine! Loved everything! The owner, who is an incredible and charming lady brought out our drinks and chatted with us as well as other tables. That genuine hospitality and personal touch is a rare find and greatly appreciated! I'm not from Lawrence, but when I'm back I will definitely dine there again!!
The food is always amazing. The servers are always very helpful and super nice. Which is impressive considering the size if the menu, I feel. I actually really appreciate the spice level! It is spicy! But also my friends who can't handle anything spicy have also loved this place.
This is a great place! Lunch buffet was wonderful. I liked everything and loved most of the dishes, including chana masala, cabbage dish, spinach dish, chicken Tikka masala, Korma. Service was excellent also.
Courteous, attentive service, excellent food, owner was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend giving Bayleaf a try.
Food good, customer service terrible. NEVER ORDER TO GO or ONLINE. 45 minute wait time became 2 hour wait time. Called and was told my order was on its way out the door, didn't get it til 50 min later. Asked if they were gonna comp the na'an for all the cold food and was totally brushed off. My viewing party finished and my guests went home before the food even got here! When other places get too many orders to handle they *stop taking online orders*. Then at least I'd know to go elsewhere. Come on, have a little courtesy.
Good flavorful food, good service. Only problem was ordering what I thought would be a four dollar vodka and tonic from the happy hour drink menu and being charged $5.50 for it. When I asked about the difference, I was told the extra $1.50 was for the tonic water. That must be some golden water at that price!
