My family and I met in Iowa City for a day and I really wanted to try Trumpet Blossom Cafe. The food was fantastic and so were the flavor. The food was fresh and flavorful without trying to hard. I hard the vegan Florentine and couldn’t have been happier. We also tried the French fries, potato cakes and falafel wrap. The coffee was perfect as well. My grandpa came with us - he’s a typical meat and potatoes kind of guy - and even he liked the food. I will definitely be making the trip back to Iowa City to try more of their food!

Enjoyed the healthy food! Went here with my husband. The vegan Rueben sandwich was very good with tons of flavor. The spices were spot on with the bread choice. The sweet potato fries were slightly burnt and overdone. Suggest lightly frying them and making the sweet potato fries a thicker cut. The pickled vegetables were a great combination. However, the cucumber pickles needed to be better pickled since the skin was tough and the rest was mushy with no flavor. Suggest using a younger pickle to avoid the mushy texture. Enjoyed the healthy and nutritious flavors. Recommend that the menu be expanded with several more dining options. Love the idea that the restaurant supports Iowa farmers!

The tempeh meatballs are scrumptious. The locally sourced coffee is delectable. Our male server was attentive, friendly, and laid back. The atmosphere and decor is both rustic and somehow modern. The menu offers numerous gluten free options. This is my favorite all vegan spot.

My experience at trumpet blossom was awful. I went early in the day, and the service started nice, but towards the end it was awful--and the checks were carelessly thrown at me after having waited an unreasonably amount of time for her to even acknowledge my table. I ordered the spicy peanut pasta. The pasta and vegetables were overcooked, and the sauce was very bitter. NOT worth the price.

We stopped here during a road trip and ordered the ginger peanut soba sweet potato cakes and the Friday special: grilled tofu cheese. Both were fabulous! The service was great, and atmosphere was really neat. Makes me wish I lived in Iowa City so I could eat here every meal!

This my favorite restaurant. We go for many special occasions, including birthdays and anniversaries. It is owned by one of the former chefs of Red Avocado (now closed), who is also the head chef of this place. Fabulous food that is completely vegan, with many gluten free options available. Great place for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Other people we have been with have enjoyed the alcoholic beverages (almost all vegan drinks). Quality food every time, and almost always good service. Street parking only, but free on Sundays and everyday after 6pm.

We stopped by the Trumpet Blossom for a father's day brunch on the recommendation of some friends. Previous trips to this locale has been when it was "the hideaway" which boasted an incredibly bar, but warm garbage for food. The Trumpet Blossom has made significant improvements over the former restaurant. The decor is dark and unchanged from previously. It fits the location well. Best of all, the bar is still here. It's not the selection that's so impressive, but the physical bar which is reminscent of a mix of something from a classy old west. All wood with a huge mirror - it's worth seeing. We learned of their all vegetarian and vegan offerings when we came in and though we're carnivores through and through, we're all about good stuff. My better half had a carrot/pear/lime/something else juice that was good, not great, but certainly unique. I had the vegan florentine and the wifey had the biscuits and tempeh gravy. Additionally, we shared a side of tempeh strips. The Vegan florentine was good, not spectacular. I'm such a fan of eggs that I probably don't appreciate it as an omnivore would. The biscuits and gravy were much the same. It's difficult for me to go from a meated dish to a substitute. Both were good, but not as good as their pig laden alternatives. The tempeh strips were actually really good, though again I wish they weren't presented as an alternative to bacon. The pig is somewhat of a superhero in my book, as it turns grass into bacon - gameover! The tempeh strips with cumin reminded me of a hashbrown more than anything and we all enjoyed them. We didn't try dessert, but the ones we saw walking past looked excellent. I'm interested in coming back for lunch or dinner as they may be more conducive to the small side of me that's interested in Vegan cuisine. The breakfast offerings were good, but not so much as to persuade me that Monday should indeed be meatless. Overall, very nice atmosphere, very friendly wait staff and good food - I'd imagine excellent if you're not keen on animals. Worth trying out if you're looking for something different.

A small tucked away little treasure in downtown IC. Somehow managed to completely miss it though I had lived there for 7 years. I finally went a couple weekend ago and really enjoyed it! I had tasted a few menu items with my friends and ultimately would go back. Hesitant to give a 5 star rating mostly due to how many nut options were the meat or dairy alternatives, which makes it hard for me to take my fiancé or friends who are deathly allergic to nuts. If you’re diet isn’t limited, it’s a good place to go to explore vegan options, though!

The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing on a Friday afternoon. The hostess was the waitress and very attentive. I ordered the special, it was quickly prepared and delicious. The ingredients were great, it was a healthy meal. The bar is impressive, large with a mirror and it is the focal piece of the restaurant. At the front there is seating for those waiting or for musicians, it appeared.

As a meat-loving omnivore, this is one of the best places I've ever eaten. Their service and drinks are consistent and the food is phenomenal! My wife and I stopped in for lunch while driving through Iowa City, and we were glad we did. Its location seems a bit out of the way: from our approach it looked like a car service station. That just turned out to be the attached bicycle shop. The staff is still getting up to speed and was preemptively apologetic about everything. However, we had delicious, inventive pasta and a veggie burrito full of savory, perfectly roasted vegetables. The lentil soup was simple and satisfying. The beer and cocktail lists were impressive too, and I regretted that I was getting back in the car so soon that I couldn't try anything listed on them. The final espresso was too weak for my taste, but, again, our waiter apologized beforehand and said they were still getting the hang of the espresso machine. The prices were fair, and we were on our way all too soon. I love their space. It's a deep, dark room with a long mirrored bar along one wall. There's a stage near the back, and I think it would be a fun place to go to a show. Also, I loved the Tolkein/D&D fantasy-themed paintings in the men's room. Unusual little things like that really endear me to bars and eateries. I envy you, Iowa City. I think this place will turn will into something special.

Really pleasant atmosphere, the food is amazing. So delicious and gluten sensitivity friendly. Anyone could enjoy the food. If you're vegetarian or vegan.and you're tired of sifting through menus looking for options or being offered a salad as the best possible option, you will thoroughly enjoy the Trumpet Blossom. The whole menu is available to you and many choices for those with gluten issues as well. It is not the place to go if you're in a hurry. It's a great place to go and relax and savor every bite of your food and drinks.

I keep trying this restaurant hoping I will like the only vegan place in town, but I keep being thoroughly disappointed. And I'm not critical about food usually. I've had the Reuben twice, and it's OKAY - it's very dry. The fettuccine cashew alfredo was soo disappointing, it was veggie noodles and hardly any sauce of which was watery and not very flavorful.. Today was the final straw though when I ordered their soup of the day, a potato chowder.. Paid $4, and got just under 5 ounces. 5 ounces. Significanty less than a literal cup. I did measure it out. I also had the Rainbow Bowl tonight, which was actually very good, except it was $18 alone and the size of a small to medium plate. It was under "large dinners" leading me to believe that for $18, maybe I'd have enough for lunch tomorrow. It was barely enough for dinner, and no I'm not some obese American that has no concept of portion size, it was sad. Oh, it did come with half a piece of wheat bread, like you'd use for a sandwich.

I placed my order by phone. The process was easy and the staff friendly. I ordered the nachos, the falafel with hummus, and hummus with veggies and flatbread. Everything was decent except the falafel....which was the VERY BEST I'VE EVER HAD!!!!! The food is good but overpriced. If I'm in town again I would place a double order for falafel with hummus and leave a generous tip of the service is at least half as good.

I had the Vegan BLT which was incredibly good. The coconut bacon was way better than real bacon - crunchy and delicious. Highest quality ingredients are used in eveyrhing. My wife had the Tempeh Ruben which she said was excellent - we shared hand cut fries which were insanely good. Daughter had a smoothy which she said was the best ever.

Amazing atmosphere, amazing food. Definitely the best vegan dishes in town. All dishes are vegan so, you don't have to ask questions or be concerned about ingredients. They will accommodate groups but do have limited space. So, be sure to call ahead. The sometimes they have entertainment too. No paper or plastic products use here either.

Get the Reuben! Although I am not vegan, I like to eat a little healthier every day. So I got the signature sandwich here. I also ordered a margarita which was average, even though I wanted it to be amazing. The sweet potato fries have a great seasoning but they are a little soggy or maybe it is because they are healthier than the other places I have had fries at. Could be the case. At any rate, the atmosphere is nice, it has a classic wooden bar from the era of western movies and the staff are all hip and young. I am going to keep trying the place out so that I can get a final cocktail nailed down and get the perfect meal on my plate. Definitely get in here and try it.

Also was impressed with the wide selection of non alcoholic beverages. I had the Limeade, the metal straw was a welcomed sustainable feature. I went at 1pm and it seemed slow, not uncommon for July in a University town. Be patient good food takes time skill and passion all are evident inside the walls of the Trumpet Blossom Cafe.

Wow!!! This was a delicious way to spend the evening! The food was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Every single item, from the cocktails, to dinner, to dessert were absolutely wonderful. We can't wait to come back!
