LOVED this place! What a great atmosphere: neon lights, nostalgic items, and oldies music. The food was exactly how I ordered it and delicious. My favorite part was actually the staff. The hostess Mariloli took the time to explain menu items, the location, and even gave me some pointers on where to go in the local area. She was so nice that I went told the manager. Well wouldn't you know it, he was great too! Overall great experience.

The food is good. But I hate how the drive threw is. My food was brought to me and there were about 8 cars ahead of me. Not all had there food. I had my food and waited till I got to the front. Cars behind with their food coming from behind on my right, tight space and this huge suv almost hit me. He had his food and wanted out of there. The employee taking orders screaming to all of us ."Every other Car" like I was pushing ahead. I was not going anywhere. So much drama. This was not worth it for me. They have enough business they won't miss me.

Food for the most part is always good from this location. The managers, especially David have no respect for his customers and talks down to them. Good luck with customer service if David is working there, I’m sure he talks down to his employees as well there.

Every time I come to Chicago I MUST stop at one of the Portillo’s location! I’m craving it just writing thus review! I always get the Italian Beef sandwich dipped with mozzarella! Yummy and delicious! Their famous chopped salad - to die for and a dessert. Usually the chocolate cake and this time I also hit the strawberry cheesecake! I’m so jealous for locals that get to eat here whenever they want! Run don’t walk to any location!

Used the drive through for late night service. They seemed understaffed due to the person taking the orders was running back and forth between the two windows taking payments and then going to the second window to pass out the order. They didn't have any Maxwell Street Polish hot dogs, so I ordered a regular Chicago dog with mustard and onions only and a side order of fries. Both items were tasty and still hot when I arrived back at the hotel room.

I visit this particular Portillo’s very often and usually have my two kids with me too. The kids enjoy the pasta and Mac n’ Cheese offered at this particular location and I usually go for the standard Italian beef, bacon cheese burger or hotdog. We have always enjoyed our food from Portillos but I can’t give it a 5star rating only because the beef sandwiches often come smashed together and dripping wet as if the sandwich was dipped in juice. Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy a lot of juice but not when the bread is floating away in a mini river of gravy. Great place, great service and we will keep coming back!

While I waited 17 minutes for 4 identical sandwiches and everyone I went with were able to eat there food before I sat down with mine. This allowed me to watch some behind the counter practices. Countless unsanitary procedures and cross contamination with knifes.

Portillos is a legend in the Chicagoland area and has been around for 50 years! Most people that have frequented Portillo's and leave the area for a long time make it a priority to go back on their return. The standards are hotdogs and Italian beef but my favaorite is the double cheese burger at just under 1000 calories. You need a shake and fries with that burger and 1/2 dozen napkins. Its all good!! Big salads for those not wanting meat with their meal. My favorite fast food place by far!!

Posting about my experience trying to eat here within the confines of the low carb diet. I have eaten here previously and very much enjoyed the Italian Beef. Returned here with my family hoping to order one without the bun, I'm always a little nervous that staff will be really confused when I make these requests but Portillos apparently has "bucket of beef" as an item menus! It was very good but if I went back I would ask to add peppers to it and some cheese.

If I could give a ZERO star I would... I had a strawberry milkshake and a hamburger from this location on Sunday around 6:00pm, I ended up at the emergency room the next morning for an unbearable pain and vomiting that had after I ate that food. I was treated for Food Poisoning and dehydration. Today is Tuesday and I still have symptoms!. This is the worst experience EVER!. Never eating from this place again!

The best Italian beef place to eat in the Chicagoland area. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and the wide variety of food to choose from. Their new food ordering concept saves time. You can order any food from either the Portillo's side, or the Barnelli's side of the restaurant from any register inside that location! While we are seated at our table and eating, a staff member came up and offered a paper Portillo's hat to our little three-year-old, he loved it! This is Chicago's best Italian beef restaurant!

Portillo’s hot dogs (with all the toppings) and chocolate cake are must haves on every visit. In regards to catering: I ordered catering for the first time over the weekend for 30ppl. I honestly wanted to order somewhere else and my husband talked me into portillos. I could tell there was a problem with my mostaccoli order because they had to keep “checking” on the order in the back and while I ordered for pickup at 11am, I didn’t leave with all of my items until 11:25am. It wasn’t the end of the world, but I got home with the food just as guests were arriving. Turns out, they forgot to include all the toppings for the hot dogs we ordered and I had nothing on hand but ketchup. :( it was really disappointing to place such a large order and not have everything you need and no time to run back. (It would have take me almost an hour out of the party time to run there and back) I hate complaining and confrontation, but I did pop back into portillos the next day to pick up a free slice of chocolate cake as the birthday reward. I took the opportunity to at least give feedback in the catering area. I got an eye roll with the first gal I tried to tell what happened to, but she pulled in her manager and he looked up my order and quickly offered $ back to my order since I didn’t have the best experience. They didn’t have to do this, but I appreciate they did. If they hadn’t acknowledged the error at all I wouldn’t likely place another order - so well done, you made a catering customer this week! I’ll be back! Tips for anyone ordering catering: make sure you open the boxes and check everything before you leave. I’ll probably ask the person working to do a full checklist and go through everything. If you don’t know what you’re looking for and have a lot of food you’re picking up it’s so hard to know if you’re missing anything until it’s too late!

As busy as this place gets, you'd think that you would wait 30 minutes for your food, but no, they run a tight ship here, and food is typically out within minutes. Double cheeseburger, tamale, cheese fries, all good items, my daughter likes the Barnelli's (attached) salads. We will come back every time we are in town. Looking forward to them building a Portillo's in my state (probably never though.)

It was awesome that I am able to discover this place for the short visit in Schaumburg. The Italian beef sandwich with hot pepper is delicious. Highly recommended. The beef is a little sweet packed with tons of flavor. Now, picture that and combine with a little kick from the pickled hot pepper. As for the hot dog, it is a must try as well. Of course with everything on it.

Their lobby is supposed to close at 11pm, I got there at 10:20 to it locked up when i was trying to get food after work. An employee walked up toward the door to throw something away, made eye contact, rolled his eyes, and walked away. I think that's a little ridiculous. OKAY editing now. The past three experiences I've had at this location have been poor. 1st was and extremely rude and treated us like we were incompetent for attempting to order barnellis in the drive thru. The second was above. And now the 3rd time, the place is packed and they have over half of the tables are blocked off for closing TWO HOURS before the restaurant actually closes. It isnt even a restaurant where you're waited on and the drive through closes an hour after the lobby. An hour is plenty of time to bus a damn table. The food is good, but the service is awful.

The only comment, it's a classic that never disappoint. However this Potillo's has a counter service that seems to beat the wait times at the other ones. Maybe its the hungry lunch crowd along Golf Road that pushes the quality of service. So there should be no hesitation to stop and be back on the road again without a loss of time to experience that old school Chicago dog taste.

Portillo's had great food, fast and friendly service, and plenty of options to choose from. I had a cheeseburger and a chili cheese dog with fries and it was all great. After that I had a chocolate cake shake which is one of their claims to fames and it didn't disappoint. It was also refreshing that they had police outside helping control traffic so that it was easier to get in/out of the parking lot instead of letting it become a free for all.

There is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING better than Portillo's Hot Dogs. I have been eating with them my entire life and I mean it when I say I have never had even the slightest inconvenience (other than a lengthy wait on busy nights) and the food has always been top notch. If you are from out of town, this is the go-to place if you want to be jealous for the rest of your life living somewhere without a Portillo's. You will be convinced to MOVE out here just to be in the same zip code as Portillo's. This place is the best and there are places SIMILAR, but nothing quite like Portillo's.

The food was okay and the service was alright. I was double charged and given cold fries, but that was quickly taken care of. The problem came when the server began cleaning the trash and use used a napkin with some spray to clean the bin; she used the SAME NAPKIN to wipe down tables. Then another server was using the saran wrap to food after he used his chin to hold it and it fell against his clothes. Clearly the health department has not been in here in awhile and they need to!!!!!

Barnelli’s Manager needs to learn how to give better customer service. A group of friends and I had ordered from Portillos and Barnelli’s and we noticed a hair in one of the pasta bowls. The manager was so stubborn and rude automatically assumed we were trying to get a “freebie” which we had denied several times. We just wanted to point it out so they can keep an eye out and avoid any future issues. The main problem was how rude and stubborn the so called manager handled the situation. At the end of it all a small comment was made into a big scene which ruined our experience. Overall just poor management

Food was excellent. Got it pretty quickly. The gal taking our orders seemed to struggle, my daughter ordered a chili cheese dog with no onions and got a chili dog with no cheese but buried in onions. She was not pleased. I had to ask for a large fry 3 X because she apparently kept thinking I was asking for a lemonade.

Step into the 1950's with a heavy dose of Americana and neon dreams. The meals are heavy, classic American diner fare but they are honestly made a step above your Red Robins and Fridays. They do some specialties like the chocolate cake shake (game changer folks) and their dogs (Yahoo). Take the family, or friends, or go alone it truly won't matter you're gonna have a great time and be too full to care about anything else.

These guys had remodeled our bathrooms to perfection. They listened to what we wanted and gave us several options of price estimates. Ole Duphus ate here and was very impressed. Great atmosphere and food. Only negative was the women calling out your order number to be picked. Very strong accent and a challenge to understand.

12-17-18 Update.... I used the drive through tonight and ordered the chopped salad again. I spoke with a manager named David. I told him about the previous two experiences. He apologized and didn't charge me for tonight's order. He was very nice. I gave four stars in my previous post, but I'm changing to five stars because of David. 12-13-18... I like Portillo's a lot. I would have given 5 stars, but I have to be honest. I ordered the chopped salad twice this past week. First on Tuesday at the drive through, and tonight by doing a telephone order. Both times I asked for no bacon (prosciutto), because it's hard and hurts my teeth a little. Both times I arrived home and the salad had the prosciutto on it. I'm not loving this. This is one of my Must Go stops when ever I visit Chicago. Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches are delicious. Not to mention the chocolate cake. Wish they would open a restaurant in my state!

Texas boy here on business and this place was recommended for lunch. Good call! Anne at the front cashier helped me decide on the Italian Beef and onion rings. Great meal and fine service with a smile. Will come back in the future.

Chicken clubs are amazing. I don't necessarily get the hype about their chocolate cake and cake shakes. They're uber sweet and will bring you to the brink of diabetes and diarrhea but hey, don't knock it til you try it. Fantastic customer service and a great place to bring your family.

Portillo’s has often been known for their iconic eats. From one of a kind Italian beefs to their chocolate cake. For years the quality had gone unchanged; unfortunately, things are changing. It was very shortly after their sale in May of 2018 when I started noticing little things. First it was the unprofessional, child-like behavior of the crew handing out the food. Then it was the items missing out of the bag, and over-cooked ribs and chicken sandwich never help. Sure, yes, everyone has plumbing problems here and there, but no one noticed water coming all the way out of the bathrooms? However, I think what has completely pushed me over the edge is when you actually hire employees that go above and beyond to piss you off. Recently visited this location with another family (13 of us in all). It was approximately 8:45, a good 75 minutes before they close. The lower seating areas were pretty packed and nowhere for all of us to sit together. The two elevated seating areas were already sectioned off; however, one section still had people in it. I approached the worker who was cleaning the area and advised of our situation. She said that they were closing in about an hour and we couldn’t come up there! Really? It’s okay we spend $120 on food but we then have to be inconvenienced and split up our kids and family members to different sections of the restaurant? As I went looking for a manager, I noticed my wife when up to the same area only to be run off by the same employee. To find out later a ignorant guest said indirectly “that’s why they put chairs to block the stairs, dumb—-“. To which the employee then thanked the customer for “sticking up” for her! Upon finally getting someone to talk to they told me to go ahead and move the chairs blocking the stairs so we could sit and eat. As soon as I did this, the same employee came running up to me with a disgusted look and she she opened her mouth I advised I was given permission to sit here. To that she turned and pouted off. I can deal with a missing fry and an occasional leaky toilet. However, I will not deal with jerk employees.

Omg....this was our first time visiting and everyone said we had to try this place out. My husband and I were not disappointed at all. He had the beef double dip sandwich and I had the ultimate dog. We also tried their fries, onion rings and a chocolate cake milkshake, which were all fantastic as well. We would highly recommend visiting if you haven't before. We are from Missouri and so this was a Chicago style treat for us!!

Come to this location a lot. I love Portillo’s food. I ordered a bacon burger, got charged and came home with a reg cheese burger. It’s not the first time this happened.

The go-to chain for Chicago dogs, Italian beef and more. Always a great atmosphere and vibe no matter which location you go to. For 30+ years this has been my tradition when in the Chicago area, and happy they have spread to Wisconsin now.
