Very very very good food. And lots of it the family meal
The food, service, set-up of the seating was all very First Class. The two waitresses were excellent.
We couldn't enjoy our meal because they sat a table full(about 10) ladies beside us. They were very loud and boisterous and made our meal very unpleasant
Family style food & great staff
Very good chicken schnitzel and oven-baked steak, Lisa wss a great server too
My favorite place to stop for an awesome meal. Always friendly service and really cool atmosphere.
Staff is friendly and helpful. They ansr all your questions about the menu items you may have. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Food is delicious and plentyful. $$
Been 13 years since ate here, great food and service!
Great atmosphere and awesome food!! A very neat experience overall.
Great breaded Pork Tenderloin. Good cake. Good atmosphere.
This was our first visit. Our waitress was delightful! We chose to do family style, as there were four of us, and it was plentiful! We wanted for nothing. The food was delicious!
Great service, great food. Definitely will go back.
They do a Sunday buffet there that is just wonderful. They have lots of eggs, sausages, pancakes and other Foods. They do a brunch that is popular with lots of people. After eating you can shop there many shops on the Main Street down there in the Amana Colonies. They have many specialty stores including stores for meats and cheeses . It is a wonderful day out of town. we have gone there for many years.
Good family style. Get a German dish.
Been coming here for 40yrs. Great family style place. Friendly environment
Good food with a great atmosphere.
Great service, excellent walleye and roast beef, gluten free menu. Very clean.
Nothing outstanding here. This was mediocre. I had the prime rib sandwich with chips. The sandwich was good but the chips were too done for my liking. My husband had hot roast beef and it was good and tender, but overpriced. We only had water to drink and the total was $25.00 for lunch. Service was okay. In all, this was just an okay place to eat but in my opinion, the prices are too high for what you receive. Nowhere close to 5 stars.
Food is always great and the wait staff are fantastic. They always take great care of us when we hold our Allis Connection club meetings there.
Great service, reasonable prices, plenty of food.
Wonderful place for families to gather. The brunch was beyond our expectations.
Awesome food and a great experience come hungry as the servings at least family style are huge.
Ox Yoke is always great. The food is great as are the people. There is 8 of us and i never hear anyone complaining.
The Ox Yoke Inn has been a great restaurant for many years. I have fond memories of the great family style meals as a kid and recently I was able to share the experience with my kids.
Great German Chocolate Cake
Good food family style is nice. Rhubarb wine good a little on the sweet side if like sweet wine perfect great strawberry jam good pie rhubarb and
Went here for lunch with my family today. The food was just so-so. I had the wiener schnitzel with spaetzle . The schnitzel was good, but the portion was small and I'm not a big eater. The spaetzle was not good; it was blah and watery. My son had a hamburger and it was just okay he said. My wife's rueben was good and had lots of meat. My other son had a brat, but there isn't a whole lot to mess up with a brat. The homemade chips were good too. We didn't get dessert, but they looked good. The reason I gave it only two stars is because the prices were pretty high for the quality and quantity. A different family member told us to go to The Ronneburg Restaurant, but we forgot until it was too late. If I ever return to the colonies, I won't eat here again.
We had lunch there. The restaurant was busy, but the service was good. Elaine, our waitress, took good care of us. We ate family style, which means that the side dishes were all served in bowls to be shared by everyone at table. Only the entrees were plated. Our waitress checked with us throughout our meal to see if we needed anything refilled. The food was good and plentiful, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
The same good quality that I experienced 50 years ago as a college student from Iowa. Sauerbraten and Weinerschnitzel are favorites. Family style for big eaters or college students (no take out of leftovers). Good parking and location. Great break in exploring the Amana Colonies for a day.
It's been a long time since I've been here but the food is still excellent! Our waitress was so sweet with our 2 toddlers and made it a point to interact with both of them. We ate until we were stuffed and the bill wasn't bad for the amount of food. Can't wait to visit again!
Yummy, excellent food. You have choice of regular menu or eating family style. I am vegetarian and really enjoyed the vegetables and fruit. Don't usually get that when eating out. Friendly staff.
Always great food! Comfort food at its finest. The ambiance is historic and so is the town.
Always delicious food. Don't skip dessert.
The fried chicken is delicious, and this was the best deal I have ever had for an entree and endless sides. The best part was how nice and charming the whole restaurant felt, right down to the Bavarian accordion music playing in the background.
My favorite place to eat in Iowa. Absolutely astonishing menu, awesome wait staff and reasonable prices.
If you go away from this place hungry it's your own damn fault. Excellent food and service!!
It has changed from the last time I was there. It's still good just not the same
Very nice restaurant within the Amana Colonies. Generous portions and fair prices. Also, attentive & friendly service.
It would have been better if the dinner rolls were warm
Food has really gone downhill. Great sever food was nothing great. Used to eat here growing up and loved it. Now its average.
Food and service has always been good. We have eaten here for many years. We were upset today to discover at the time of departure that we were charged for are drinks and each refill without being told up front that there policy had changed. In the past our drinks were always included with our brunch. I guess we now know only water is included with brunch!!
Great restaurant with several generations of family ownership. German food that can be served family style or individually. Amazing pies with flakey crusts made in house.
Loved this place as a child. Still love the ambiance but we left hungry with plated options at lunch and the pricing was exorbitant for what we received. My brother in law asked for another roll and was told no. We couldn't order a piece of bratwurst ala carte, was told no. Overall, very disappointing.
Poor sevice. Not attentive. Waited an hour server Sally really slow and just tossed things on the table not enough prserves for rolls Honey dug out with knife mushrooms were burnt when fried
Food was passable comfort food, took a while for it to come to the table even though it didn't seem that busy
Chicken and ham family style are amazing.
Great food, great service and great pie; what more can you ask for at a restaurant?!?
Was yuck but good service
Food was delicious & reasonably priced
Every time I go through the Amana Colonies I have to stop in here for a meal. It is a tradition for me. A fantastic restaurant. Great service. Outstanding food. It is priced accordingly. Suggestion however is to get there early because it will get filled up very fast during the lunch hour especially on the weekends. I highly recommend this place in the next time that I'm passing through the Amana Colonies you can bet that I will stop in again. Great job guys.
Amazing food and service
The food was great but they only give a few pieces of spatzle. Why? Half a side? You could've had 5 stars!
Had our wedding dinner here. It was fantastic; come hungry!
Made reservations for Easter. Marketing lady was very friendly and helpful. We were seated promptly when we arrived. Being a holiday and being extremely busy, they could have used more waitresses. Once someone waited on us, things started to move along well. Food was excellent, no disappointments. Price was very reasonable. Had a great time and plenty of food. Definitely, would do it again!
It's always good, and the desserts are to die for (especially that death by chocolate). It didn't seem quite as good tonight, not sure if it was the cook or the quality of food. My mother had the tenderized steak and loved it, coleslaw was fresh and tasty, the side salad was very good, the family style is always nice with kids or picky eaters. Fresh bread was fresh. I had the fried catfish and it was very good, cooked but tender and still crispy outside. We were in late for that community apparently as it was a little after six when we got there, so we had the place almost to ourselves. I hope that when tourist season starts up again the food will too. Nothing was bad, it just wasn't the usual par. It's been a year or so since we've been through and we will definitely try again. I'd give it four based on tonight, usually a hard five!
The food is not good. The dessert was the best part. If I come back, I'll just have the dessert.
I've been going to Ox Yoke for 50 years. No reason to stop now. Make sure to go upstairs and see the real stuffed black bear, as well as some other interesting artifacts. Beautiful bar in the basement.
Very nice, great family style servings.
Generous portions. Friendly staff. Good food. Long wait in a crowded waiting area with no place to sit. [I should say: not enough places to sit.] We would go again, and we would recommend to others.
No weiner schnitzel or cottage cheese. Otherwise, food was good. Missed these old favorites. Good waitress!
Anytime we are driving close to the Amana colonies we have to stop. Love the food and family style.
Great staff. Friendly, fast attention. Food is great. Always have had a good experience there. And just love visiting "The Colonies!"
Food was amazing... staff was knowledgeable and friendly, atmosphere was quaint. Wonderful experince.
Truly GREAT Food!!! Exceptional People!!! Fried Chicken was phenomenal. Pork loin was exquisite. GREAT Hamburger. Shrimp was amazing... Heather and Britney were Above and beyond with EXCEPTIONAL Customer SERVICE. Truly BLESSED by the BEST. May FATHER GOD'S RICHEST BLESSINGS be each and every one...
Average menu looks good at a glance but actual presentation when served makes steak and shake look 5 star. Reuben mediocre at best. Had to ask for pickles described on menu should have skipped them. Wife’s prime rib looked like leather it was so over cooked. On a scale of 1-5 it was barely a 1/2. Don’t bother stoping here. Wait staff so so.
Pretty good with the gluten free items. Decent selections. Nice staff. Decent atmosphere. Prices ok. Enjoyed ourselves. A very German feel.
Great German food. Entrée portions were a bit small.
Food was Great. Service was very good for a large group!
Great homemade style family food. Highly recommend!
Although the food was good and the staff were attentive, it took 45 minutes to get two tenderloins.
The food was all mediocre at best but the coleslaw was delicious. Our waitress Brittany was cool even though she spelled her name wrong.
The food selection for German fare is small & the soup is sub pare. Service is sloppy soup was spilled over table when served & not friendly. I would recommend if you want german dishes to go somewhere else. We were disappointed.
Baked steak was amazing! Chicken very good! Loved the kraut!
Great food and a nice place
Frequent visitors with family for Sunday brunch. We always look forward to our visits. Enough consistent menu items that you know what to expect, with some rotating entree's and desserts that are always nice to try.
Most of the table ordered family style. It was really hot and fresh. Fried chicken was great. Prime rib sandwich with swiss with homemade chips (jus and horseradish on the side) was the best!! Go here at least once a year. Will be back!
Great experience. Food needs to be updated. If you are going on a weekend, make a reservation. The Sunday brunch is completely worth the money. The wait staff are always really good.
Always great place to eat! Very friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Such a great restaurant. I had been back here in about 10 years. Are used to come here frequently with my grandparents as a child and it hasn’t changed. Great food and great atmosphere.
Great food served family style. We had the meatloaf served with mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and onion, and fresh baked roll with homemade strawberry jam. Delicious! The only problem was that the 2 thick cut pieces of meatloaf stuffed us so we did not try a piece of pie (and it looked very tasty).
Excellent service from staff but tourist stop quality food. We ate at another restaurant in town better prices and quality.
Very mediocre. Rolls were ice cold, food was certainly nothing special and overpriced. Not recommended.
Some of the best food I have had in years. I had the chicken Schnitzel, my wife had the Jaeger Schnitzel. Both cooked to perfection. The side dishes were food compliments, and the deserts were delicious. Our waitress was great, checked on us regularly. This is Octoberfest weekend, their busiest time of year, and the service was still excellent.
Outstanding walleye supper,old country food,perfect
Great waitress. Bad tasting diet Coke
Great food and service. Especially liked the cheese spatezle.
One of are favorite places to eat when where in the Amana visiting area. Great food and service. Best place for family style dining.
This best place around.. one of thr reasons we go to the Amana Colonies
Ordered whole fresh catfish. The crust was very crispy but the meat was so tender. Cooked perfectly. The service was great. When our server knew we were heading to another state, she provided cold water in cups for us to take out. Very thoughtful!
Food was very good. I had eaten here 4 years ago it wasn't as good as today. It was very yummy today
Great food and service! I see people complaining about not taking family style stuff with but it says right on the menu its against their policy. Never had a bad experience and this is my third time eating there.
Didn't go there.
Delicious food served family style-lovely surroundings-fast service
Great service and friendly staff. The food was extremely good.
Great breakfast or brunch meal. All you can eat with reasonable pricing. Great staff, too. I recommend going after holiday weekends, and before 10am on Sundays. Holidays and church crowd can get you on a wait list, but still worth it.
Good food, great service, fair price.
Always a pleasure. The hosts are lovely conversationalists, great to get food and visit advice from, and on-point to help out and make occasions special.
Great service. Sauerbraten is top notch as is the wienerschnitzel. Good breakfast offerings, too.
Very good down home cooking brunch in a historic setting.
I liked the family dining the have here and the food great.
Most excellent food! We really enjoyed the family style dinning. Great environment. Highly highly recommend
Wonderful food and service!
Great Thanksgiving dinner feast and terrific deserts. A bit hectic on Thanksgiving. Have patience. Staff is doing a monumental task serving hundreds on the holiday.
This restaurant was suggested by someone local. It has a cute "old-timey-y" atmosphere. However, the menus are very limited. They were lots of German-style dishes, but mostly fried meat and some sandwiches. I certainly think of this as more tourist food than authentic German food. And they had 3 beers on tap. There was a large list of cocktails but I wouldn't trust the quality of cocktail. And, we had to wait a VERY long time for our food, and the server rarely refilled our glasses.
This restaurant is in the Amana Colonies, obviously. You go for the unique atmosphere and the delicious food. I had the pot roast and the rest of my family had the sausage specials. Everything was delicious and the customer service was really nice as well.
We arrived at 9:30am. We seen people arrive over an hour after us without a reservation being told they didn't know how long the wait was get seated before us. We ended up leaving at 12:20pm. Now I understand being busy and reservations, but over 3hrs is ridiculous, we left before it reached that point. There was 2 of us, not a large party
Everything here is excellent. Friendly staff and clean restaurant. There is a small bar are to wait for a table, but every when it's busy the wait is short. The food is very fresh and well prepared. They have a nice selection of German food and a sampling of American food. The desserts are all fresh and amazing. This is a must visit if you are in the area.
Really awesome atmosphere and the food is delicious. Traditional German dishes made fresh, my family and I really enjoyed dining here.
The food and service are very good! Well worth the stop! Make sure you try the Family Style dining! Brings back memories of the "good ol' days" at Grandma's table!
Always good food when we visit .... if u go away hungry its ur own fault
Clean, friendly and good food
Excellent food. We had a prime rib sandwich and potato dumplings. Delicious. The service was a bit slow and the waitress wasn’t very friendly. Would be 5 stars if the service were better.
The food is so good. Love the family serving. Cottage cheese is my favorite. So much food, great desserts and wonderful servers
Great food. Great prices.
Very good food. Service was good. Waitress was very friendly!
Good German food. Great service. Huge quantitys. Lots to try.
Their new Sunday brunch is superb! Outstanding food and great service! I wish they'd make one in Las Vegas
The food served family style was very good. I had asked the hostess for her favorite and she said the chicken schnitzel was well liked. It was wonderful.
For being there 79 years. They still have the best food. Staff is wonderful.
Love the Sunday brunch!!! Service is always top notch as well, highly recommend!
For family style dining, this was a meal made in heaven. All side dishes were great, buns too. I had oven baked steak and wife had schnitzel chicken. We both loved our main dishes. Tentative waitress, quaint decor back to the era of several decades ago. Very clean. Only reason for 4 stars is the chocolate pie I had for desert. Had a wierd taste. Will definitely return and highly recommend...but won't order same desert!
Best Home Style meal you will ever have!!! The staff are amazing and you get to truly appreciate a great meal after a day of shopping !!!
This was the best dining experience we've had in years. The food was excellent and the service was terrific!!!!!!!
The food, as always, was awesome and the service is excellent.
We were there for Monday morning breakfast. We were with a party 30 and sat at a table of 6 people. One waitress. Service was slow, slow and slower. We were served family style. The coffee had grounds in it and was not hot.. With 6 people at the table we got enough hash browns for 3 people, so we all had about a tablespoon of hash brown. We got what looked like 6 scrambled eggs, 3 sausage patties and 3 slices of bacon, so we each one scrambled egg and one slice of bacon or a sausage patty, we also had a small bowl of sliced fruit so we each had about 3 small pieces of fruit, 6 pieces of toast and 6 pancakes so we each got 1 slice of toast and 1 pancake. It took us about 10 minutes to eat. The waitress came back 10 minutes after we finished the food and asked us if we wanted more. One guy said sausage and toast and I said bacon. She brought 3 slices of toast and later as she walked by with a big platter of bacon and sausage she slid 2 sausages patties on to the sausage plate that she had left on the table. Then took the big platter of sausage and bacon to another table. About 5 minutes later as she was walking by the table I asked again for more bacon and eggs. She brought 4 slices of bacon and a plate of cold scrambled eggs. All the food was served cold. I would recommend going to I-Hop. Faster service, hot coffee, more toast, sausage, bacon and pancakes. Eggs cooked any way you want. You don't have to wait 20 minutes to beg for more food and it'll cost you about 1/3 less.
A genuinely great and authentic German cuisine experience in a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
My BavariInn sandwich was fabulous! My husband's Weiner schnitzel platter was small serving size.
had the lunch there earlier.food was good.
Enjoyed the "Family style eating" plenty of tasty food to go around.
The food was excellent! Had the roast beef family style. The sides dishes were really good. The cottage cheese was very delicious.
Great food and service!!! Will be back. Loved the pickled ham and the bacon. Everything was wonderful.
Great food. On the pricey side. Me and my son ate for 30 dollars. Tax and tip included.
We had the Reuben sandwich with fruit cup and bratwurst with chips. Food was very tasty. Large portions. Service was okay.
Food served hot and fresh! Sampled some local fare and mmmm mmmmm it was tasty! Always get family style; totally worth it!
Delicious food and great service
We had the family style breakfast, with unlimited buttermilk pancakes, toast, sausage patties, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and fruit. Service was quick and friendly, quickly noticing if we ran low and asking if we wanted refills. The pancakes were cooked very thin but still soft. The bacon was cooked so it was a little crispy but still soft. The sausage patties were surprisingly not very salty. Usually sausage patties are really salty and I have to eat something more bland like eggs or pancakes to kill the salty taste. But these patties were really good. The eggs were perfectly cooked, not too oily or flavored. The fruit was also good, consisting of watermelon, cantaloupe, honey melon, and red seedless grapes. Overall, excellent food and a great experience. Would definitely come again.
Always the best food. When ever we are close we go for the great food
Amazing authentic food with exceptional service
