No wifi for a working lunch but if all you need is food & wine, this is an excellent choice. I had the fries as an appetizer and a bacon cheeseburger that comes with a simple and tasty salad.
A hidden gem in downtown Iowa City. Amazing food, attentive staff and management.
A little expensive for a lunch but expected from an organic local sourced food restaurant. I also wish there was more than one soup option. The mushroom sandwich was very good
Friendly service great food wonderful place for dinner. Especially appreciated the bartender could make an outstanding martini
The lamb is the best. Great presentation. Portions just right. Innovative recipes. Best service ever 5 stars
ok once you wait 10 minutes for pretentious staff to actually show up at table. Pass on artichoke salad, must be a epic shortage of dressing because salad is drier than my time in Iraq. Everything pretty much overpriced but honey butter & bread is free with just sitting down. Grab a somewhat over priced bottle of wine & bread and people watch. Only nice for that.
Server barely talked to us. The steak was sub par. Quality of overall food was not worth the price. When we asked to speak to the owner it took over 20 mins. When we finally spoke with the "owner" he was very rude and disrespectful towards my wife and I. Two years ago I would of recommended this place to anyone but now the quality of service and food has taken a turn for the worst.
Blue crab gnocchi was AMAZING!
This place is a gem! The service alone makes you want to come back but once you taste the food you realize you could have just eaten the best entree you have ever had. The food is more expensive than your typical restaurants, but this place is extraordinary! Absolutely fantastic!! Can't wait to go back!
Wonderful service and deeelicious food! Highly recommend!
Great chef, service and food!!
Horrendous
One of the better restaurants in town, but there are still better options for the price. Our food was cold and the service was so-so. I would recommend Orchard Green.
Got yelled at for being too near the empty patio. Saw someone else get yelled at for standing too near the patio. Never been there, and now I never will.
My salad was excellent. The service was quick and efficient. Our visit was quite enjoyable!
Fantastic food, reasonable prices (for fine dining) and easy to get in.
High end restaurant in Iowa City with unique offerings.. Can be a little cramped and disorganized.
Simply amazing!
Nice ambiance, enough choices.
Good food, great atmosphere.
This place is so special. Intimate setting and the food is perfection.
126 is one our 3 favorite dt restaurants. We drive to IC several times a year and have been vusitirs there since the restaraunt opened. I highly recommend 126.
Perfect in every way. Food, staff, interior... A hidden gem of AMAZING, quality, delightful food. We always come here when in town.
It never fails to amaze me how well this place creates such amazing flavors from the simplest, local ingredients.
Not impressed. Ordered Salmon medium rare, was dry as dust and took 45 minutes. Way over priced. Cool decor; but food sucked and took way too long. I was 1 of maybe a dozen people in the place.
Cute, intimate, and cozy place. Service was great and there is a good menu. Except I ordered potato soup but there was no potatoes in it. Maybe that's normal, first time here.
This place was really "different". The outside of the building looked old & worn down, and the inside didn't look much different. As I entered the dungeon, I felt as if I was in an alley between two really high ancient brick buildings cause that's what the walls of this place were: just solid raw brick, no paint, dark, simple wood tables, no decorations of any kind. A very tall, slender, guy approached me. He greeted me. I asked him for a menu. He explained they were no longer serving their lunch specials and that I was there at kind of an odd time. I told him that I just wanted something that "tasted good" that was "filling". He said, "I got just the thing for you. It's a sandwich we make called Cuban Pork". I said, "I'll take it". He said, "Would you like any fries with it?" I said, "Yes". He asked me where I'd like to sit and suggested that it would be nice to sit outside cause it was a nice day. I smiled and said that I'd rather sit next to the open window. He grinned broadly and said wherever you'd like. He didn't ask me if I'd like anything to drink, but said he'd bring water. I hate water, but I didn't say anything. He brought the water. It was in a nice large very clean looking glass. I took a sip half expecting to taste chemicals (city water). I didn't. I actually liked the water. He brought my food. I don't really like pork too well, but if someone says something is good, I just get it. The Cuban Pork was so awesome that it was out of this world. Wow, I thought. I wasn't too impressed by the fries, but I'm not really a frie person anyway. You'll just have to try them yourself. The fries came with ketchup, but I hate ketchup, so I asked if they had any hot sauce. He said they had Sriracha. I said that's even better. The meal was a good portion of food and it costed under $15. I was real impressed by my waiter though. He was a very nice guy with a very friendly smile. Another guy from the back even said hi and gave me a wave. They make you feel like you're home at this place, so I gave him a $3 tip for the hospitality, and the really awesome sandwich. You're probably thinking, "Then why not 5-stars?" Cause I wasn't crazy about the fries. Poor excuse, I know, but I'm very very picky about what I eat. I highly recommend this place though. All my 4-star and 5-star reviews are worthy places. Stars are just what my personal experience was, but yours may be better. Not everyone is going to have the same experience. Try this place out today.
Location, food and service are all good. Terrific wine choices.
Excellent service, delicious meal
Great food, great service, quiet atmosphere. Standard mid to high-end American fare.
Best wood fired pizza! Meatballs pasta was so good.
Great food plus a nice wine and drink menu. The crab cakes are good. I also always save room for dessert.
I got lunch to go today and it was quite possibly the most wonderful thing I've ever put in my mouth. I got the County Salad, which you would think is just a salad but it was heavenly! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the flavors just melted together. The grape (or cherry) tomatoes are the tastiest I've ever had! They took something simple and made it phenomenal! I will definitely be frequenting this establishment!
Excellent service. Appetizers were so-so, but entrees excellent. Good ambiance.
Went for a friend's birthday party and had an amazing meal/time. Had the steak frites with an Italian red blend which was lovely. Wait staff was a good level of attentive while not hovering so much as to feel excessive.
In from out of town for work alone. Wanted mussels and a cheese plate. Found One Twenty Six from Google and so happy I did. Very cute, quaint restaurant. Food was delicious, staff was on point and I'm extremely satisfied! Definitely recommend. Parking was a pain but that is not the restaurant s fault. Try it for sure for a small, local spot!!!!
Excellent food and great service have been several times and always a good experience.
The crab cakes were great--delicate with three interesting sauces. I had the lamb osso bucco with polenta and broccolini. It was particularly delicious on a cold evening. I want to go back soon for the gnocchi with blue crab and the creme brulee.
Good food
The food was absolutely delicious
Great food!
The food is delicious, though a little expensive if you are a student.
Excellent meal as usual. A nice, quite restaurant where we can hear ourselves talk.
This is billed as an upscale French restaurant. I don’t know if we caught them on an off night or what. The lamb was passable but I didn’t like the watery texture of the polenta. My husband had the hanger steak which was way overpriced for chewy meat and a huge plate of French fries. The desserts were delicious. They have an extensive wine selection and a full bar but no cocktail menu.
Made our reservation through Open Table after careful consideration of the many choices in Iowa City and Coralville. This was our "nice" dinner while at the University Of Iowa attending continuing education classes. I lived here for 11 years nearly 30 years ago, return every few years to attend class to maintain my dental license. Reservation was for 6:15 on Friday the 11th of October on a football weekend. Arrived at 6:10, seated right away. Water was brought and drinks were ordered. Drinks served, and appetizers ordered, a cheese plate with three very good cheeses, dates, walnuts and perfectly toasted French bread. We also had the marinated olives which complimented the cheeses very well. Order another glass of wine and dinner. Wife ordered the steak frites medium and I the tenderloin medium it was complimented with whipped potatoes and broccolini. Or I should say I think it was. Original entree order was placed at approximately 6:30-6:35 also ordered the bread basket (it's not complementary) bread came just a few minutes later. At 7:20 our young lady server brings two simple dinner salads explaining that another server had inexplicably taken our order to another table. Please accept these salads and of course the wine is also on us. Salads, simply greens with a nice vinaigrette. No bread left but that's fine. The trek to the bathrooms go directly by open kitchen up a long flight of stairs. After the salads went to the bathroom up the very tall stairs for the second time we've been here nearly 1 1/2 hours with cheese and bread and wine........ coming down the stairs there is NOTHING on the grill? Get to the table there is still no food. It's almost 8:00pm. Olives, bread, drinks (the cocktail not the wine she said was comped) cheese. We decided to put $40 cash on the table and left. We did briefly say we had to leave, to our waitress as she stood running another patrons tab. We told her we had left some $ on the table and she just smiles and says oh really? Then we went to find food. I would have thought when our order was found to be lost every effort to bring our dishes as quickly as possible would have been afforded. Or at the very least kept updated. Nothing no communication after the salads were given. We ended up at 8:15 pm trying to find a place to eat on a football weekend in Iowa City. So disappointed.
Great food..
The only real "fine dining" experience in town.
Food was exquisite!
Take search candidates here. When I interviewed, it was bad but went again and it was tasty. Moist, lots of unique flavors. People say it's expensive but I don't see the bill.
good food good taste good atmosphere
Nice place for a quiet meal.
Delicious and cozy atmosphere!
Interesting dishes.
Great Food. My favorite restaurant in Iowa City
Really good food, had the pleasure to try most of the menu(cause it was that good) I dare you to try it once I doubt you'll leave unsatisfied.
