Food was good. Prices were just ok. Waitress never smiled once, gave her name, or anything welcoming. When I said I didn't like the coffee and asked for a Coke instead, she rolled her eyes and stomped off. She brought the Coke back and started to walk away. I asked for a straw. She STOMPED to the counter and came back and practically threw the straw at me.

It is so much easier to avoid this place and go to one of the other locations where you are greeted with a smile and the wait staff are professional, efficient, and sweet.

One of the nicer places in Urbandale (or Johnston, same area roughly) to go out for anytime of the day. I'm a big breakfast guy, and they pretty much knock that out of the park. Atmosphere is good and service is friendly!

A Johnston classic for diner food! I’ve never waited for a table here and the wait staff are fantastic! Try the cinnamon roll for sure, or the sweet potato fries with marshmallow dip for dinner. This place has a really nice community feel!

I wouldn't even give this place one star. The girl that seated my kids and I was nice and timely. Then our actual waitress was horrible. We were there and hour and still didn't get our food. It took 25 minutes just to get a coffee refill. This place has gone downhill badly. I'd definitely only go during the week when its slower that way the they can actually help you and get you your order. Or maybe have smaller sections where the server could handle it. I put the nail in this coffin my family will definitely not be returning.

Not thrilled with the service. This was my 4th visit to a cozy cafe, the other visits were fine. This time was very mediocre. Took a while to seat me even though the place wasn't busy. I ran out of coffee and had to ask for more even though the servers walked past me multiple times. Had to wait a long time to get food after they messed up my order. If this was my first experience with the restuarant I wouldn't return. I will probably give the place another shot.

First time eating here was amazing!!Breakfast served all day! Had the Tenderloin and onion rings. Great service Katelyn was our waitress. Super cute clean environment. I came here on a Sunday morning and they had an awesome breakfast buffet with an omelette station, scrambled eggs, rice, sausage, bacon, french toast, biscuits and gravy, fruit, cinnamon rolls, etc. My favorite thing was their cheesy hash browns, which Steve told me was his own recipe. I loved the food and the staff was "on the ball" and friendly. I'll definitely be back.

Large menu. All options we ordered (burger, burnt ends, pasta) were delish! Returned a couple of weeks later and ordered 2 different burgers. Server was very personable and the food was really good. I tend to forget about this place but shouldn't. Wide variety on the menu and very comfortable/casual dining. The desserts look amazing but I'm always too full to actually order one. Good value for the price. Recommend!

I really wanted to like this place because the food is good. I’ve ordered carry out a few time before and always liked it so my boyfriend and I decided to go in and eat. The first time was less than impressive. 2 wait staff were arguing on the floor about who is doing more work. Our waitress was new which I try to be patient about but she did not get a single thing correct on our order. No cheese sauce for the fries, jalepenos on the burger we didn’t ask for and regular bacon instead of Canadian bacon on my pizza. Additionally while we were trying to get clarification on what kind of cheese was in the cheese dip the owner made a flippant comment like we didn’t know the difference between American and cheddar cheese. Maybe he’s had a long day maybe he thought he was being funny but it didn’t go over well. Despite our first experience we decided to try again two days later for brunch. Mistake, it was chaos no one seemed to know who was in charge of seating or what tables they were working. The buffet was pretty much empty with no sign of anyone bringing refills, and the last straw was hearing a waitress complain to another waitress about her table and the kid that was crying in the restaurant. At that point my boyfriend and I decided to leave and not eat that day. The food here is good and this has the potential to be a really great place. But it’s just chaos in there regarding staff and getting orders right so I won’t be going back unfortunately.

Quick service and our meals came with in 10 minutes of ordering. Menu was mostly typical cafe but the food came out hot and well prepared. Portion size was on the larger side. Bathrooms needed a bit of a clean-this was my only issue on our visit.

We head been here about 4 years ago and it was good. Should have read the current reviews. It was slow and good wasn’t even what I would consider mediocre. Having worked in restaurants, it’s clear corners are cut it the cooking process. It’s very clear it’s all prepackaged, canned or frozen food. It’s not inedible, but not far from it. The eggs on my Eggs Benedict were rock hard in the middle, where they should be runny. It’s a breakfast place in a lot of ways- they should be able to cook an egg. The staff was very friendly, which was the only saving grace. But we won’t be back.

I would give it more stars if they had a “got to have it” menu item. They do have good food, friendly staff and a clean restaurant. But no signature item that makes me say “ hey, let’s go to Cozy Cafe”. They will say they do, but they don’t. They will say their Cavatelli is the best in town, not even close. I think they are a tick pricey also. You could do a lot worse when going out to eat. But you can do a lot better.

Kind of took away from the Cozy part. The chain started out great several years ago. We have seen the quality of food and service fall in different locations.

If I could do 0 stars I would. Went with my family the day before Easter and was really disappointed. For some reason, food quality has dramatically gone down over the past few months. Most of our food really had no flavor. Our waitress was really nice I'll say, but some other staff were folding napkins behind us which is no big deal but she kept yelling and entering our conversations. I hope food improves

No complaints about the food as it is better than average. My complaint is that I had my credit card charged 3 times for the same meal. When I addressed the issue with the management they refunded one of the over charges but have ignored my calls to have the second one removed as well. No effort on their part to remedy the situation. Too bad this was a favorite place until this.

I want to like this place! It used to be so much better. But today was a disappointment. There seemed to be a sticky film throughout the place. Tables were sticky, floor was sticky. Even bathroom surfaces were sticky! I ordered my eggs over medium and they were barely even cooked! Just disappointing and not worth the price of the food. Maybe other food is better? Hopefully. The owner (?) was so kind but didnt have much help so it took awhile for our food to come, and for drink refills.

I'm giving this one star because the waitress was pleasant. We should have known when our party was the only table in the restaurant for breakfast, that it's getting bad. The last several times we have visited we have gone away discussing how dirty the place is, specifically the bathrooms. Today was no different. If you have no customers, then take that time to clean bathrooms. They smell terrible, the floors are sticky with visible dirt and garbage. Tables are sticky. There was a big jug of old water on the bar in the back room. I can't say enough about how disgusting this restaurant has become. It's too bad, but I won't be back.

The waitress was very friendly but seemed like she was the only server for all of the lunch guests and a little overwhelmed. It took awhile to get our food, which is frustrating on a lunch break from the office. My friend was bummed that she couldn't order a shake until after 2pm. We were excited to have all-day breakfast, the reason we selected this restaurant. I would eat there again and hope for a little quicker service.

Amazing breakfast experience at this 50s diner style cafe. They were packed but service was quick and the food tasted great. To top it off, the owner/manager (didn't catch his name) gave us a free Cinnamon Roll on our way out since it was out first visit! Can't beat that. Will definitely be back next time we are in town.

First time there yesterday. We both ordered breakfast and both got generous portions of everything described on the menu. Cooked right, not too long a wait, comparable pricing. Only one waitress to serve, clear tables at 6pm. The floor in dining rooms could stand a deep cleaning and the tables are cleaned with a wet cloth (no sanitizer bucket or spray was seen) tables had like water spotting on them. Waitress was moving to get everyone taken care of and checked on our order etc as did the guy at register. Will go back.

The servers we talking about random work related stuff I didn’t want to hear about they could have chatted away from customer ears. WiFi was great and I was left alone so I could get some work emails done.

$15 for breakfast buffet and coffee with tax seems a bit high when we did not get a chance at whole buffett. The sweets and fruit were put out when we were leaving. The omlet maker was not there until then either. Food that was there was good, except scrambled eggs were like powdered eggs

What a great place! We came late afternoon on a Saturday. I wasn't feeling well and wanted some comfort food and I wasn't disappointed. The service was amazing. No wait for a table. I love the colors they chose for décor! And the paintings on the wall are beautiful. Order the cornbread with sweet butter as an appetizer, you won't be disappointed. One of the better tenderloins around. The chicken and noodles was an interesting take on chicken and noodles. The base was more of a bechamel sauce than a thickened gravy and the chicken was in chunks, not shredded. It was served over homemade mashed potatoes. Personally, I wasn't feeling well, so the dairy in the chicken and noodles didn't sit well. If I was feeling better, I'm sure it would have been amazing. Highly recommend!

Good iced tea and chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and came with freshly made kettle chips. My husband ordered a grinder and said it was acceptable, but not great. We will try it again and he will try another item. Large menu with lots of choices.

Very disappointing meal tonight. I had the chicken and noodles. The whole meal was barely warm. The chicken was so tough I could hardly cut it with a fork. The gravy tasted more like alfredo sauce but barely had any flavor. The side of corn was also cold and tasted like a can. My wife had a BLT that was just average. The wait staff was good and the food came quickly. The restaurant was so cold inside we ate with our coats on. Overall, not a good experience. We won't be back.

We went Friday after Thanksgiving. The owner himself seated us and stayed to visit for a few minutes. He was very easy going and friendly. We ordered coffee as we looked over the menu, the coffee was excellent! I got the speciality pancake with poached eggs and crispy bacon. It was all wonderful. Do many places either don't do poached eggs, or do then wrong..Cozy Cafe got them perfect!! My husband ordered the steak and eggs with bacon and sourdough toast. He said it was the best breakfast he'd had in a long while. You can't go wrong in stopping in to eat a bite.

I eat here regularly for breakfast and sometimes for other meals, and have always enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and prompt. The food has been consistently good. I love the Cozy Mess if I want to go crazy, and their pizzas are good. Really a lot of stuff on the menu and all is very good.
