Whether going to Centro for Happy Hour, Monday Pizza & Peronis or a leisurely meal — the food is always delicious! Pizza, pasta, appetizers, martinis, local beer, soup & salad — you name it and I guarantee you’ll like what you order! Was very impressed with the bar menu - enjoyed one of the best Caesar salads I’ve eaten. Perfect mix of ingredients and sauce; add the anchovies! The grilled salmon entree was a full meal, super delicious and well complemented by a double hopped IPA.

Had the Portobello Mushroom Omelette. I asked our waitress to ask the chef to add fresh spinach to my omelette. He obliged. It was stupendous. Bravo to the chef! Highly recommend this Italian Bistro.

Simply put, this restaurant has the best pizza in Des Moines. We nearly always sit bar side which has open seating and happy hour specials. The only down side to bar seating is that one has to ask for a bread basket. This is not something to be missed either as they serve warm South Union Bakery bread. The staff is always friendly and if ordering pizza will serve up the first slice. Drinks are well proportioned and there is a variety of specials available during happy hour to suit nearly any palate. Finally desserts are tasty but if there is a weakness for this restaurant I would say this is it. The cheesecake we have ordered has been frequently undercooked, but is also fantastic when properly cooked. The pizza is the star of the show though. We have ordered other dishes, and while some of the specials are not to be missed, we always remember and come back for the pizza. If you enjoy New York style pizza you would be remiss not to try Centro's pizza.

Somehow, Centro managed to blur the line between elegance, timeless class, casual dining and a family friendly atmosphere, and all in the best way. My party and I were greeted with a smile on the way in, and somehow we were seated within seconds of our walking in, despite the busy-ness of the restaurant. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly, and remained professional but didn't mute her personality. The food was phenomenal. A classic Caesar salad tied together the end of a long day of travel, and house-made Cheesecake left me with a happy palate and ready for bed nearby. On the way out, the manager or maitre d, told us that he expected to see us every Monday night from now on. We all got a laugh, and frankly, if I lived in Des Moines, they would be seeing me weekly! I also have to add, everybody inside felt very relaxed inside despite the hustle and bustle. Large tables of people (6+) were all sitting around laughing and visiting with each other, despite having already finished their meals, and their plates, having been taken.

Centro is delicious. I went there for a work lunch. Food and service were great! The only downside is that it gets loud in there. So, if you're hard of hearing it's not the best place for a business lunch.

The service was great, unfortunately the food was just average at best. Usually when I look at a menu and see pricing in the $25 a plate price range I feel like I can expect an experience in the taste buds category. Last night was a let down. Food was mediocre, the seating is very uncomfortable, and loud. My God is it loud in there. I couldn't hold a conversation without literally yelling. Terrible acoustics in there. I was really expecting a lot more. I can see it being a great lunch destination but other than that, sorry, but never again.

Serving us cold bread really was not a good start. It was a big turn off. The waitstaff did not explain well that their "veggie" burger patty which was supposed to be a healthy alternative to a regular meat patty had nothing healthy in it. It tasted like a big chunk of cheese and some extenders. Not the usual veggie burger I would expect which has healthy ingredients. So I ended up not enjoying my food. It was cute they had a tea timer but it would have been more impressive if it was not rusty.

Great place overall. Phenomenal bread to start with. Their tomato soup, salads, and sandwichs are excellent. However, their pizza is greatly overpriced for the quality. The atmosphere is nice with great smells but it can be quite loud if there is a full house. My wife also says its too cold on the inside. Service is usually good.

The atmosphere is lovely, and the staff members are very professional and helpful. During my last two visits, I ordered a steak and the chicken francese. Both were disappointingly void of flavor, and for $23-40 each, I could go to any number of other establishments that serve much higher quality meals. If anyone from Centro is reading this, please review your menu options and meal prep strategies. I want to enjoy dining at Centro again.

I took my nephew out last night and he decided on Centro we got there around 6pm and they were somewhat busy but we got a table right away and there was a bigger group of people behind us so it took awhile for our food to come out and when it did it was cold. I have a burger which was tough and cold and my nephew had a chicken sandwich with fries and those were cold and soggy. However our waiter was super nice but the food wasnt up to Centro standards.

First time was great. I'd have been five stars back in July. Second time for Valentine's Day was not the greatest. Had a reservation, but called to say we were running late due to weather permits/accident on road and distance traveled... drove two hours down to take my girlfriend for a nice dinner. Host honored my late arrival and the server was great, but timing was awful. Didn't have time to enjoy the starter before the entrees came through. Had to eat one or the another or else the food would get cold. Starter was left deserted... Got dessert, yeah it may have been after closing hours but if I'm paying for it I better well get how everyone else would have gotten theirs. Ordered the sorbet.. Looked like a 6yr old kid just scooped it in a bowl and wa la served. (Poor presentation) I didn't even get what I had previously requested on the reservation ahead of time. Thank you for a wonderful experience that was supposed to be a Valentine's Day. (Definitely ruined it.)

This place is equsite we always take our family from out of town. Their food is amazing and I cannot say enough about those delicious portabello fries we've been numerous times. They also have a really great cocktail named something to the effect of raindrop martini has some kind of berry liquor in it tasted like pure heaven my SO always gets it and usually I sneak a taste. the place is pretty high scales and so are the prices although not excessively costly but definitely on the higher end. The food itself was decent, but I've eaten better. One thing that was evident in all their foods was the excessive use of salt. Now, I happen to like a little salty food but for most other people it's might be a definite no no. The ambience however was definitely good and definitely worth trying at least once to see if it suits your taste.

We went with a group of four for lunch. We were seated right away and told about the specials for the day. Our server was friendly and made multiple suggestions. All of the dishes were super and everything was as ordered. The brussel sprouts were amazing! Everything we had was delicious. Portabello mushrooms were fried in a light batter and my Greek salad came complete with kalamata olives and hummus. Would definately be worth your time!

Delicious upper scale Italian restaurant in Downtown Des Moines. Food was pretty good for the most part, but the flourless chocolate cake was out of this world amazing. I would go back just for that. Pasta and Steak were good but nothing I need to go out of my way for again. Drinks were good. Make a reservation ahead of time to avoid a wait time.

Went here for our Anniversary. We got seated right away. Very friendly staff. We ordered onion rings for our appetizer. They were excellent and seasoned well. I had the chicken prosciutto. It was fantastic. My fiancee has the chicken francesse. She loved it. We also had the marshmallow sundae for dessert. It was amazing. We'd come back just for that!

Overall we had a really great experience! The bartender (Shawn) was excellent- very friendly and accommodating. Additionally, our food was AMAZING. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. The only concern we had was regarding our hostess- she was in a constant daze, inattentive, her hair was hanging in her face, and lacked knowledge of the city. (We were visiting from out of town.) She seemed very out of place working at such a nice place.

I dined here with a group of people and had the opportunity to taste numerous dishes. The foccachia was fresh and soft. The calamari was excellent, perfectly cooked and battered. My salad was a large portion and fresh. My ribeye was overcooked and came with 3 pieces of zucchini. My friend’s Saltinbocca chicken was huge but too salty! The scallops were bland, over cooked with the texture cooked out of them. Steak salad was excellent and cooked perfect. The cavatelli, al dente but the dish needed more punch and more ragu. The server was really over hyping the menu but thats her job i guess. The interior is pleasant, clean and modern. Pricing, some items were on target and others slightly elevated. 3.8 of 5, sorry, 5 it is not.

Great food & stellar service! We visited a year ago & this visit to Des Moines was my daughter's restaurant pick for her 15th birthday. Flank steak w/gorgonzola sauce was amazing with perfect broccolini. My family also had 3 different pasta dishes, all amazing & cooked perfectly (truffle mac & cheese, sausage & shrimp penne & the chicken & prosciutto). Husband's drink was great... something with whiskey & blood orange. My bellini was a little disappointing to say the least. The cheesecake was perfectly silky & creamy... the best! As we were leaving we noticed a Bloody Mary bar (weekend)... we weren't aware of it and had we known about it, we definitely would have ordered... just a note for the servers that not all patrons are familiar with the weekend brunch items. The only negative & reason for 4/5 stars... the place is huge, we requested to visit with our volleyball team of about 30 adults & teens & they "couldn't accommodate" the day prior (or any day for that matter). We were willing to even sit separately in 3 groups of 10 but again, were told it was too many people. Felt a little snubbery but obviously it didn't stop us from visiting the following day with our family of 5.

Not worth the price I paid. I'm pretty sure you're just paying for the atmosphere. Crab cakes are made from canned crab and is very obvious as the taste is like salted cat food. The calamari is frozen not fresh and very rubbery, not fun to chew . I had the Chicken Francese, a great portion size and very delicious, however my noodles were way overcooked and mushy. My husband had the New York strip, The little potatoes and sauce were divine! However the steak itself was second rate to a walmart black label steak. It was Gritty and chewy. For $40 you'd expect it to melt in your mouth. It should be noted that entrees do not come with a side, you can order side(s) at additional cost. But you are greeted with free breadsticks. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable, and polite but a little slow for the restaurant not being busy. The restaurant was very loud inside, almost like an echo of every conversation, but the decor and atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing. the patio was pleasant for the most part, the building is covered in dirt, but it is right next to the road. We had dinner at 730, not much traffic, but the traffic was incredibly loud as the patio sits on a corner next to a stop light. Almost every red light we sat through loud music or a loud vehicle and couldn't hear each other speak. Overall, I would likely not return to Centro, as it really was just mediocre.

We love Italian food, my wife is also from Italy, solo Bella. The food was fantastic and the service was super nice and attentive, as you know it from Italy, where the hospitality comes first. Food was fantastic, service was exceptional and fast, at 9pm there was no wait and the atmosphere was lively but pleasantly so. Next time I am in town will absolutely be returning. Price was fair and honestly felt the food was worth it. I have spent more at other places for less quality of service and food portions. My server was on point available always at just the right time, if I didn't know any better I would say she was around the corner just waiting for me to need something but that was impossible considering she had a few other tables other than mine.

Not our first time here, but today we gathered a group of 25 for brunch, to celebrate my mother's birthday. First, the reservations were handled well, promptly and professionally, as was an adjustment to the headcount. Today I asked to have the table arrangement changes a bit and they accommodated pleasantly. Then I learned we would have 2 more arriving and the manager added a table for us, quickly and happily. Food service for large groups is typically challenging. Not so at Centro. They assigned 3 staff to us. They were all excellent. The kitchen was also spot on. All food was well prepared and flavorful. In my segment, staff nearly simultaneously served food for 10. All-in-all, a great experience, one I would readily repeat.

My favorite place to go for Steak. I am one of those that like my steak well-done. I was blown away that my steak was cooked to order and succulent. Amazing food, great service and intimate atmosphere.

We ate our lunch here and we loved this place. We ordered pizza and it was cooked perfectly. The place can be full during lunchtime but we totally understand. I definitely recommend this place.

I love the Centro salad and the amazing wood oven pizza. Only drawback to this place is that it's very loud when full of people. Service has always been top notch when I've been there.

Not bad. I really don't know what all the fuss is about considering this is a Des Moines "place to go" it seems. The food was good, not excellent, and it's expensive for what you get. Wasn't a bad experience by any means, but also not somewhere that I would tell my friends/family that they HAVE to go.
