This Restaurant is included in the category of Steak house.
Never had a bad meal or service. One of the best in the country!
Classic Steak House and very proud of their history. At least once you have to get the Shrimp Cocktail. Extremely hot (spicy) horseradish is about 50% of the cocktail sauce. Business dinner haven.
Its a little pricey but its worth it, you get what you pay for. I loved the food, the steak was delicious and juicy for a well done cooked, i loved the cream brûlée. Really nice environment and the staff were super nice and make you feel welcomed.
The quientisential steakhouse experience. Perfectly prepared food, impeccable service, a laid back atmosphere and consistant quality combine to make this my favorite Indy steak house.
Amazing restaurant, worth the cost! I reserved a table online and let them know it was our anniversary. They gave us a "Happy Anniversary" card signed by all the staff! They even put candles on our desserts. Very cool experience.
Frankly, my meal was nothing short of incredible. If Google let you rate one restaurant per year 6 stars, I'd give it to St. Elmo's. It was a fabulous evening.
Old school great service, excellent food and always a great experience. Watch out for the shrimp cocktail... you will not forget it.
I went on a date night, and the food was very over priced. The steak had no flavor even though it was AGED and seasoned to " perfection" haha yeah rite. The service was excellent as it should be for the scale of restaurant. But sadly I dont eat out for the service. And a couple sat down next to our table. The whole atmosphere was just a bunch of "rich" dull boring people. It cost 157 dollars for the both of us and I had one beer. I think the place is super overrated and just a very dull place to be. I will not be returning.
Must try their Shrimp Cocktail. Great food, great service. Rick was awesome.
When you have a special occasion to treat yourself or a loved one that likes steak come here .. there's a reason this place has been around for over 100 years and that's the quality of their cuts of meat. The aged meats are out of this world. Save room for desert and some drinks after your event
Very disappointed with our time at St Elmo's in Downtown Indianapolis. We were sitting next to one large group then 15 to 16 people came into the room. It was so loud. I could not even talk to my husband. We now know we will just ask for the other room next time. Meal and waiters were only thing great.
A grand experience from the moment you open the door, the wait staff, the food presentation and flavor, the ambiance, monstrous wine cellar ...
Delicious restaurant, known for their shrimp cocktail. Careful it's spicy. Great menu. Friendly staff, busy place, so you'll need a reso. It's noisy though.
Take into account, a bad experience at this place is still very nice, but at this price point my expectations suffered greatly. ___ waited on us and he tried, but didn't click well with us. Seated against the wall, my family moved the table a few inches to give me elbow room. ___ promptly noted that the table had a wobble and moved it right back... spilling a lot of my wife's cocktail in the process. I will say, we learned a great deal of the history of St Elmo's - from the waiter of the table next to us. From ___ we learned that he likes to make his coffee strong, and we knew that was true because when he brought my wife's decaf as half decaf and half regular, he drank the cup he removed from our table eagerly. The steak was excellent, the bus boys did a fine job... But we had a much better overall experience at Ruth's Chris for way less money.
I don't even know what to write right now. I'm so full. This place is legendary. The atmosphere is classic. The steaks are cooked to perfection. The dry aged beef is on a whole nother level. Sides are traditional and perfect. Desserts are delicious. Service is top notch. I ordered cocktails with dinner and both were on point. Their bourbon selection is great. This place is doing it right and have been since forever ago. I highly recommend.
Excellent, as always! Been all over U.S. traveling for work, and hands down one of THE best steakhouses, period! Great for special occasions also.
The filet mignon was prepared wrong (barely cooked when I requested medium rare) AND sinewy. I forced myself to eat most of it in order to not embarrass my guest who was visiting from Georgia. At least no crying children in the room like my last visit. Have had excellent filet mignon there before. One would expect more given the price. The waiter and wine were excellent.
Great place with nostalgia and class. Great wait staff who made a good experience better. Very tasty NY Strip. The shrimp cocktail sauce was a little much for me but the other guys liked it.
Called ahead. Were seated within 15 minutes of arrival. Waiting area is extremely tight. Ambience is cool. Bread came a bit late and was a little stingy on the slices. Only one roll for a table of two. Steak was DELICIOUS! Potato was a little dry but still good. Pricey but worth the splurge.
Excellent service and quality of food, though I typically only get to eat here once a year it is what I look forward to the most when I'm in town.
I have always heard great things about this place, but to be honest it did not live up to the hype. I was with a group of 4 who all ordered steaks. The steaks were all either under or over cooked and despite having different cuts of steak they were still tough. The green beans were under seasoned and I got charged for a creme brulee I did not order. The waiter said it was on the house because of my birthday but yet it showed up on the bill.
Been coming here 17 years. Bearest steaks! Try the Shrimp Cocktail with Jumbo Shrimp and home-made cocktail sauce to clear your sinus!!
Come on; St. Elmo's is one of the best steak places in the country. What more can you say? If you want other apps, then have at least one person get the shrimp cocktail and share it. You can't go here without a shrimp or two, IMHO.
Amazing! The shrimp cocktail is outstanding. Be prepared for a very hot blend of horseradish and spices that will make for eyes water in a good way! The shrimp are better than any I've had in Florida or New Orleans. The filet was excellent and cooked to perfection, a true medium rare. The service was impeccable.
I'm from LA and I had the best steak ever and the customer service was the best. David was my waiter and he was excellent good job David.
I had heard the lore involving this place, so it had a lot to live up to. And IT DID. The service was absolutely stellar (ask for George, he is truly a master of his craft, second to none), the food was superb, and I literally tried to find a critique to make and couldn't. The shrimp cocktail has an incredible zip, but not cheap thrills, it's a finely crafted recipe that's really enjoyable. The 60 day aged New York Strip was cooked absolutely to the perfect medium rare. It will be the steak I forever judge all others against. It's an old school steakhouse vibe that runs like a finely tuned machine and has service and product down to an absolute art. Yes, it's pricey. But the juice was well worth the squeeze. I'm not a wealthy man, but I have no regrets paying their prices for what I received in return. I can't wait to come up with an excuse for a return visit to St. Elmo, it was hands down one of the best all around restaurant experiences I've ever had.
My wife and I recently visited on an early Saturday evening. We were promptly greeted and seated. The atmosphere is great and fits the story of a classic, established, old-school restaurant. Our server was very efficient and attentive. The meal was good but not great. I had the NY Strip. It was cooked perfectly on the inside while my wife's 8oz filet was also cooked perfectly. The rest of the meal was a little underwhelming. Some good bread, a small baked potato, a cup of bean soup. It was good but for the price you are definitely paying for ambiance and novelty. I had two martini's and neither came with that fine layer of ice on the top. I would recommend as a one-time trip.
Excellent food! You have to order the shrimp cocktail. My entire meal was very full of flavor. Oh, don't forget the cheesecake at he end!
Great food good service one of the best steaks I've ever ate
St. Elmo's is amazing. The shrimp cocktail is great. Steaks are cooked to perfection and the wine list is impressive. If you're traveling to Indy it is must!
Always guaranteed 5-star service. An impeccable prepared steak with all the trimmings. However, at least according to me, the gem of the meal is the 4 layer chocolate cake!!!! I never have enough room to enjoy it at dinner but its a must have!!
This place was talked up by so many... To be honest I think too hyped... My steak was so bland. I've had much better steak at Longhorn... Go to Foxgardin for the best steak
Fantastic in every aspect. Food was to die for and the atmosphere was fabulous. The lobster bisque and shrimp cocktail were amazing. Above all, the service was excellent. I'm from out of town, so I got lost getting there. The hostess asked how my day was going and I told her about my traveling woes. When Mark (my server) came over, he said that he heard about my troubles and that he would do what he could to make my evening better. While it definitely wasn't expected, it was nice to know the staff really cares and personalizes the experience. On top of it all, my water glass was never below half full even though I had a small pitcher of water at my table! Every time that Mark would come by, he would refill my glass and ask how everything was tasting. I will be coming back with guests in the future.
Best prime rib I've eaten in my life. Great cocktail sauce to die for.
Never had a bad meal or service. One of the best in the country!
Nice atmosphere but an outback steak is just as good
The quientisential steakhouse experience. Perfectly prepared food, impeccable service, a laid back atmosphere and consistant quality combine to make this my favorite Indy steak house.
Frankly, my meal was nothing short of incredible. If Google let you rate one restaurant per year 6 stars, I'd give it to St. Elmo's. It was a fabulous evening.
Impressive, I can now say I have eaten at St. Elmo's. Once is enough for me as well don't like to spend that much money on a meal. I could feed a family for a week or more for what is spent on a meal for 2-4.
Old school great service, excellent food and always a great experience. Watch out for the shrimp cocktail... you will not forget it.

Started with the shrimp cocktail, packs a punch but it's delicious! The lobster bisque was equally amazing! My ribeye was tender and full of flavor, yum! The cheddar mashed potatoes were creamy and delightful! Topped it off with creme brulee. Overall a wonderful experience for our anniversary ❣️

The shrimp cocktail is a must if you like spicy. Steaks are awesome however I wish they were served on heated or hot plates. Staff is very attentive.
That was the TENDEREST steak I've EVER had!!! The mashed potatoes were like glue, they were so thick, but they were delicious
Service was great the food was good as well. Very busy best to make reservations.

Awesome steak and shrimp cocktail. Reserved a table in advance and skipped the wait. Glad we went while in town. Good date night.
Amazing especially for their famous shrimp cocktail and dry aged steak! Their 3 course meals are highly recommended.
Have a party in the basement surrounded by fine wines. Taste the wines. Get the shrimp cocktail. Order a steak. Yummy!
Fantastic atmosphere of a classic American Steakhouse with all the flair. Service was outstanding and the food quality was just as good. Their shrimp cocktail is the best I’ve ever had! Heavy on horseradish with a heavy but quickly passing heat it’s worth getting.
Our 1st time there a wonderful dining experience it was worth every penny !
Great steak. Shawn was excellent. Will be going back again in the near future.
Ok, let's be serious here. This place is just great from every aspect. But you want to know about the shrimp and that fabled cocktail sauce. Get it. Just get it. And then bottle some up for your next head cold. That stuff made me start breathing better than I ever thought possible. All that O2, I was energetic, I was euphoric and I finally understood what pi is. It felt like I was breathing through two tubas. I could smell sound. So get it. Just get it.
No vegetarian options on the menu, only a couple salads. When I ordered a salad, the waiter asked if I was vegetarian. He stated they do have a pesto pasta with vegetables, it’s just not on the menu. I ordered that, it was great! However, I’m not sure why they don’t have it on their menu. I get it, they’re a steak restaurant but I almost suggested our group go to a different restaurant just because I was going to be stuck ordering a salad.
Outstanding! A must visit for Indianapolis! You must try their shrimp cocktail but only in tiny bites. It is world renowned!
literally the best steak ever. top notch service in a classic downtown staple. highly recommend for any occasion. great atmosphere and overall dining experience. aces.
Were do I begin. It was 2 days before Christmas. We hosted a family dinner for six. The food and service was excellent. The dessert was fantastic. A minor problem. My husband asked the waiter for more bread for my son in-law. We never received the bread. He ate the meal without it.
Highly recommend. We visit every FDIC. Staff are wonderful. Food consistently exceeds expectations.
My girlfriend and I decided to go here for our 11 month anniversary. During our dinner, I had planned out and proposed to her while we were there. Our waiter paid little to no attention to us. He scowled and said congratulations to only me. We chose this place as part of our special day and it was unfortunately missing the warmth and hospitality we had previously enjoyed here. Good for food, not for enjoying a special day. If you just got engaged, expect a surly congrats to the guy and a quick demand for your IDs to buy your own celebratory drinks.
Food is perfect, and so are the drinks! The bartenders are a lot of fun too. If reservations are full, nothing wrong with sitting at the bar. Me and my friend ended up meeting some people that invited us to their table... so best of both worlds. We had the filet, lobster and halibut! Don't forget to have the shrimp cocktail too. We also had that, and it was exquisite.
Good food and a cool atmosphere but very expensive. They're really proud of their shrimp cocktail. St. Elmo's shrimp cocktails are like a "thing" in Indianapolis. There was some on court advertising of it at the basketball game we went to there. In reality, it's just a spicy shrimp cocktail. Come on, guys.
My favorite spot in Indianapolis after a Pacer's game. The king crab mac-n-cheese was awesome. Will definitely visit again.
Great food a little pricey but that's ok
Decent steak but not the best. The famous shrimp cocktail will clear your sinuses. Impressive wine list. The seasonal caprese salad was to die for. Nice decor.
Excellent meal! Food perfectly prepared. Our waiter, Evan, was amazing! He was totally efficient and professional while being friendly and personable. Go to St. Elmo's, you wont be disappointed!
The St. Elmo diet Coke was fabulous! Made me go back for more. Had the ribeye, perfectly cooked and great green beans!
The dry-aged New York strip was good, but it wasn't the best steak I have had in recent memory. It was rather chewy and a little bland. It did not justify the $50+ price tag, especially since a much better steak can be purchased elsewhere for around $30. I will say that our waiter, Ricardo, was wonderful. He was attentive and personable. If I was rating my visit according to just the wait staff, I'd be giving five stars, no question.
The restaurant was busy and loud. For being a top rated and well know restaurant I was not impressed. I ordered a medium rare steak and it came out Med- well done. I mentioned it to the server and he made a comment and walked away- I ended up switching steaks with someone at our table... the waiter came back 10 minutes later to follow up. The wedge salad was good but nothing special. We ordered several sides (green beans, Mac and cheese, fries) and none of them were spectacular. We ended up waiting on drinks a lot throughout the evening. I do not think I will return. Ruth’s Chris’s is a better place to go for steak.
Love this place. The server is very attentive. The lobsters I had were the best ever
Food and service very good, little expensive, but top grade.
Had an awesome time here. Great food. You have to get the bread pudding.
Came here because a friend referred us. We did not make reservations and that's our mistake. We had the option to go upstairs where there's a lounge and they serve a condensed menu, but similar to main menu, just smaller portions. Bree was our server and she was amazing. Ally helped bring items to us as well and they did a great job. Food was amazing and we hope to come back here on our next visit. Thanks Gals!
Sunday evening menu is such a great deal. Food was amazing.
One of the best steaks I've ever had. Classy place. Excellent wait staff.
IT WAS EXCELLENT. FOOD WAS PERFECT; SERVICE WITH SERVER CHELSEA DID A GREAT JOB SERVING A TABLE OF 14 AND KEEPING ALL SATISFIED WITH THEIR NEEDS. WHAT A WONDERFUL EVENING WAS EXPERIENCED BY ALL. LARRY J. Walker
Steak prices begin in the mid 40's and go up from there. The bar area is so nice, reservations are strongly suggested and less you have a lot of time to spend getting to know those in line waiting for a table. Having booked upstairs we were seated downstairs, our food for four arrived cold but was immediately removed and replaced with delicious hot food. Service was excellent, want a steak, this is the place, forget chicken and fish, it's a carnivores paradise
A wonderful experience. You won't get anything but the absolute best at St. Elmo. The food, the drinks, the service...all 100% phenomenal. Oh, and a 38 oz. prime rib is exactly that. 38 ounces of pure meat heaven.
The food was excellent! I had the King Crab and Shrimp Linguini, cheesecake for dessert!
Perfect filet, with extra detail laid to the GenCon crowd. Soot on steak dining experience.
Service was great the Tom Collins was a little off but I wasn't going to complain. The lamb was completely raw the first time when it came back out second time it was cooked enough that I can eat everything except for the center which I brought home. My big issue is my three-year-old got the king crab mac and cheese. He had a few bites at the restaurant boxed it up to bring home. We get home he being eating it and then he begins coughing and choking spitting it out. There were little shards of crab shell through out it and one sharp pointy bit of crab shell. I sent an email to the chef informing him about it. For $100 dinner I'm not impressed. I might come back in the future if it's just me or me and my husband.
Service and atmosphere were excellent. I got the prime aged ribeye (77$) and asked for a touch more than med-rare. Ended up getting med-well. Disappointed. Half of the steak was basically destroyed and the other half was tolerable. This was my first higher end steak and maybe my expectations were too high. The Navy bean soup was good, the bread was good and my side order of French green beans with cashews and brown butter was also good. My date ordered the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp and she said that it was very good.
We had.a great celebratory dinner. The shrimp cocktail and prime rib were some of the best I've ever had. The cocktails and wine list were excellent. We will definitely go back.
St Elmo is always a great experience. Food and service are excellent.
Wonderful place for special events. Celebrated my birthday there and was impressed as always.
If you have not been to this restaurant, I advise you do so the next time you find yourself in the Downtown Indy area. I could go on and on about drink infusions, lobster bisque textures, dry aged strip steaks, the weird (delicious) flatbread cheese danish that gets brought out; not to mention the excellent service (with one exception), thing is that all of these bits make for an amazing experience well worth the money spent. My only reservation was a bartender with an aggressive haircut whose idea of a $13 gin and tonic was to pour 3/4 a bottle of Hendricks into my glass and splash tonic on top of it (not literally, buy you get the point), maybe that's how they do it there, but I was lucky to feel feelings after that first sip; I'm still not sure whether he was doing me a favor or a disservice. All in all, I would give this establishment 6 stars, however, the presence of over poured G&Ts leads me to believe there is a small communistic element present despite their willingness to exchange goods and services for American Currency. I cannot abide communism. So we'll settle on 5/6.
Our waiter was a jerk. I could hear him saying terrible things about people in the restaurant. I was very disappointed in the food. Not worth the price. Never going back there.
If you are in the city and don't go here you are doing yourself a disservice. The best staff at any restaurant period. The most amazing steak you'll ever eat and a shrimp cocktail that will slap you in the face. Don't worry about the price just pay it and be a happier you because of it.
The atmosphere, experience, food, customer service altogether were exquisite. Certainly lives up to the hype! Shrimp cocktail and surrounding traditions (which I won’t give away) are unique and enjoyable.
Great food, drinks and service. Good place for a business night out or romantic evening for two.
The service was unbelievable. Great steaks. The shrimp cocktail sauce was to die for.
Totally unsatisfied. The food came out hot which was a plus but it wasn’t flavorful. We had the crab and shrimp linguine and the ribeye steak. The pasta had more of a tomato soup flavor and the steak was not medium well. The steak was also very bland. The service was even different. The two tables outside of my table received five star service while we got checked on sporadically. I said that i was unsatisfied and didn’t even want my food bagged and was just told I’m sorry. It was too expensive to just leave there my boyfriend said to give it to the homeless. It’s not a place i would ever go back to.
Awesome steak and shrimp cocktail. Reserved a table in advance and skipped the wait. Glad we went while in town. Good date night.

Classic old steak house. Dark, impeccable service. Slightly expensive but delicious.

Great food a little pricey but that's ok
Exactly as predicted. THE place to entertain in Indy. Many options but this place exceeds ALL expectations. I had steak, salad and drinks. I'm not going into specifics because I don't want to influence. It's all good. The food, service and experience. Thanks St. Elmo's. You are truly an Indy Saint!!!
Decent steak but not the best. The famous shrimp cocktail will clear your sinuses. Impressive wine list. The seasonal caprese salad was to die for. Nice decor.

A mazing too anda mazing restaurant... excellent service
I brought my girlfriend to St. Elmo's for her birthday. I made a reservation and included that it was her birthday. When we got there, they gave her a bday card with everyone's signatures wishing her a happy birthday. Doug was our server and he was phenomenal, excellent service from Doug. The steak was great, very well seasoned and tender. They have this bean soup that is the best bean soup I've ever had. The food is great, the staff were friendly. If ever in Indianapolis do yourself a favor and stop by St. Elmo for dinner.
Incredible service. Great food
Good food , clean & friendly but alittle pricey
A wonderful experience. You won't get anything but the absolute best at St. Elmo. The food, the drinks, the service...all 100% phenomenal. Oh, and a 38 oz. prime rib is exactly that. 38 ounces of pure meat heaven.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
We had.a great celebratory dinner. The shrimp cocktail and prime rib were some of the best I've ever had. The cocktails and wine list were excellent. We will definitely go back.
St Elmo is always a great experience. Food and service are excellent.
All the old world charm you expect from one of Indy's oldest and greatest establishments. Here for over a hundred years, it stands out by embracing Indy's history and delivering that class to their customers.
Great food and atmosphere. Excellent service. Highly recommend. Will definitely make another trip next time I am in town. Looking forward to visiting 1933 Lounge.
Shrimp cocktail is excellent with homemade cocktail sauce swimming in horseradish! Steaks were top notch. And you'll have to loosen a notch on your belt!
Restaurant was so incredibly loud. It was not what I was expecting when paying such a high price tag. Food was pretty good. But ambience is a big part of the experience.
Amazing atmosphere, amazing food, amazing service! I spend most of my year looking forward to the one meal I get to have here.
Awesome is the only word to describe this place but it is not cheap
Oh yeah the best when in town you have to go for the shrimp cocktail and a perfect steak.
Service, food and drinks are excellent. A wonderful dining experience.
One of the finest establishments this side of the Mississippi. I have never had a bad experience here. The steaks are wonderful, the shrimp cocktail is the best I have ever had, and the bourbon and wine list rivals all others.
As good as the steaks are, service is better. One waiter is dedicated to you for everything. First class
Visiting Indianapolis, this is a must stop. Great local steakhouse. Be sure to try the shrimp cocktail.
One of the most incredible steak houses I've ever been too. The atmosphere, the food, the experience, the staff, all 5 stars and I cannot overstate the personal attention we received from our waiter. I could not think of a better post ISO performance dinner. It made a great evening amazing.
The Sunday 3 Course meal! Hit the spot! The steak was cooked just how I like it and you should at least try the Shrimp cocktail at least one if not twice! Cheesecake is a given! So light and fluffy, great texture and the raspberry purée was so flavorful!! If I’m ever in Indianapolis again I will be visiting
Incredible steak house! Highly recommend
Fantastic. Excellent meal and service. Don't try without a reservation.
OMG...fabulous service, food and great fun. Love it!
Buddie of mine said it was better than Ruth Chris but it wasn't at all. And maybe we went on a bad night I'm not sure because I see a lot of good reviews. My wife and I ordered our steaks MW it came out MR. The waiter took it back to the kitchen to be cooked only for it to come back well done with a crisp burnt outer layer. I couldn't eat it. Are guest we invited to dinner had the same issue. We paid $250.00 for food we couldn't eat. Before you ask why we didn't complain and have it taken off are ticket, we're just not them kinda people. On the flip side the shrimp cocktail was very good.
Top of the line steaks. Consistent quality and service. Touch expensive, but the experience is worth it.
This restaurant is a very fine example of a traditional American steakhouse. The atmosphere is classic and masculine but feels very warm and cozy. There were diners wearing suits, and others in jeans and running shoes. The shrimp cocktail is legendary. You may find yourself asking, "Why on Earth would anyone pay $81 for a steak?!". Because it's superb. Because it's your birthday. Because Jesus Christ himself wants you to order that steak. And you will not be disappointed. The steak was so tender, I could have chewed it without teeth. The flavor of the beef made me want to meet the farmer and give him/her a big sloppy kiss on the lips. I love that this restaurant is unabashedly traditional and they don't try to deconstruct or otherwise jack with a good thing. There beverages are extensive and if you feel like dropping $8500 on a bottle of wine, you can do that too. The service was perfection. Roxanne was lovely and utterly professional. Thanks for the wonderful dinner St. Elmo's.
Just steps from the center of Downton Indy, this steak house lives up to its hype. From reasonably priced appetizers, their works famous shrimp cocktail, and some of the best cuts of meat, St. Elmo's doesn't disappoint. I had the bone-in cowboy steak (medium) with a baked potato, and not only did I come out perfectly cooked, it melted in my mouth. So good! Be sure to try The peppercorn sauce, a fantastic enhancement to your steak. Must visit!
The two best things I can say about this place are their commitment to ensuring every guest has a pleasurable experience, even those with food allergies, and their service. Our waiter, George, was extremely helpful, attentive, and friendly. My wife has Celiac disease and he helped steer her into the safest and tastiest dishes on the menu. She didn't have any issues with cross contamination and both of our meals were exquisite!
Outstanding service, arrive for reseveration, was promptly seated, Jake took great care of us. Good selection of food as well as wet & dry aged steaks
Really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be back next time I'm in Indy. And yes, the cocktail sauce is hot! Opened those sinuses quickly, ha. Steak was delicious, baked potato was cooked perfectly and the mac and cheese was very good.
The shrimp cocktail is the best there is IF you love a hot cocktail sauce. It will make your face light up. It’s awesome. I got the aged ribeye and it was excellent as well. If your willing to drop some coin on a good meal then you should love St Elmo’s.
We had a great experience. The staff went above and beyond to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you!
As usual fantastic shrimp cocktail. Impeccable wait staff and the steak was marvellous. Hooked to a true medium rare and was very tender. Only issue we had was a couple of the other guys ordered the navy bean soup and wound up with the lobster bisque. However no complaints there.
The food and dining experience were second to none. The best steak I have ever eaten. Avoid the valet parking at all costs. Do yourself a favor and park in the garage across the street.
I've had better. Nice setup, but I've had better for what they are charging.
Atmosphere was amazing, service was equally as amazing. The sides were superb, but the bone in prime rib...meh, wasn't impressed at all. Sixty percent was fat and bone and the meat was tough. I was surprised by this. I'd be back for another try though. Don't let my words discourage you.
This place is great. The shrimp cocktail needs to be eaten to be believed. It is fantastic. Steaks are great as well though not seasoned very much... you'll get the true essence of the beef here.
Just as good as you hope it will be. I had a reservation for a medium sized party and they were courteous enough to keep the kitchen open a little late for us. Really nice of them. The shrimp cocktail and steak selections are, of course, fantastic.
Good food..nice servers..bit pricy
How can someone not like this place? Classy vibe and delicious food. Truly an Indianapolis staple. Obviously the steak is amazing, but I would also highly recommend the lobster bisque. They do a great job at making all guests feel special, but I especially loved when my husband and I went for our anniversary. Their attention to detail is amazing!
Surely one of the top 5 steakhouses in the world. Old school atmosphere, delicious meat and the spiciest but tastiest shrimp cocktail I have ever tried. Lively bar at the entrance. Impeccable service. A must if you happen to be in Indy.
Very high end but well worth it. The food was excellently done. If you know you'd like to eat here in advance with a few others try and plan reservations for a private room. Well worth it.
Lovely old restaurant, the upstairs entry/ bar area is the nicest area, the steak is delicious, service excellent. Prices are not for the faint of hearted, steak prices begin in the mid 40’s and go way up from there. We booked upstairs and were seated downstairs - not what we wanted. Food arrived somewhat cold and was all replaced with hot food, much better. Nice place to go.
Awesome as always . Best place ever to eat. Service great as usual.
A great place to go to celebrate an anniversary. Professional and polite staff. Awesome food and drinks. Self-parking was located right across the street in the garage. Excited to make going here a tradition!
Shrimp cocktail is excellent with homemade cocktail sauce swimming in horseradish! Steaks were top notch. And you'll have to loosen a notch on your belt!

The standard ribeye steak was ok. Nothing special. The shrimp appetizers were very good. Service was excellent.

Fantastic. Excellent meal and service. Don't try without a reservation.
Great service and food in a heritage building, plus they had trout on their Sunday fixed price menu, what more can you want?
OMG...fabulous service, food and great fun. Love it!
Upscale steak house. Great shrimp cocktail. Awesome filet.

The steak was awesome and the blueberry bread pudding was a must have!

Oh my gosh. My husband recommended that we stop here. Boy we were so pleased. The wait staff was superior, the food was the best I've had in years. The flavor of the steak was phenomenal. Had the caprese salad and the tomatoes were so delicious. I look forward to traveling to Indianapolis again. Thank you for the great experience.

Never disappointed at St Elmo- before Colts game brunch- delicious!
Amazing food!! Shrimp cocktail is a must, the BLT chopped salad was awesome, and the prime rib was delicious and big enough to feed 4 people!! If your in Indy it is a must to stop here for a great dinner.
Just as good as you hope it will be. I had a reservation for a medium sized party and they were courteous enough to keep the kitchen open a little late for us. Really nice of them. The shrimp cocktail and steak selections are, of course, fantastic.

I think they have the best shrimp cocktail, over Prime 47. Never had a bad dish. Of course it is a little expensive, but a nice place to bring customers or a special dinner as it is top notch.

Really great restaurant... but beware, you pay for great...

I'm from Ohio, this place is excellent. Its on the high side of my budget, but sooooo worth it! I had the Ribeye and Shrimp cocktail. WOW!
Great place for a nice dinner downtown. The steaks are by far the best you will get anywhere in the city. Call ahead for reservations, or try your luck by walking in. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable of the menu, as well as the wine list. Be prepared to spend some cash, but every bit is worth it!
Everyone should visit at least once. Iconic location with high end dining experience.
Excellence from the moment we sat down. Thoughtful and sincere service; they pick up on every little detail, from the birthday card greeting for my sister all the way to the creme brulee dessert.
The best steak I've ever had!
Great place, excellent service. 10/10 would eat again! I had the Shrimp Cocktail and the shrimp was enormous. The sauce was the best part! They said 'a little bit goes a long way' and they weren't lying! By far best first-time experience at a restaurant.
My food arrived at room temperature. It was sent back to the kitchen to be heated. This was the first time I have ever received cold food, and I have been here 4 times in the last 3 years. The food was very good, especially the steak after being brought hot. Our service was below average due to our server getting a table of 10. This was the first time that our water glasses were dry. Other waiters would pass by and we would stop them for water, desert and take out dishes. Less than impressed for a dinner costing $160 + for two people. 3 stars for service is high.
Bill Shine was more incredible than any aspect of this true dining experience. His 30 years of experience showed! Most amazing service I have ever received. Not to mention the food!! Unreal!
Great food and service. Ask for Joe. The shrimp cocktail with their special cocktail sauce is incredible and the steaks are perfect. Can't go wrong here!
This place is amazing. It's a dining experience with top notch staff and absolutely fantastic food. Ask for Billy if you want great service: he took great care of us. Dress up, make a reservation, and have a wonderful evening. It's expensive but worth it. I'm looking forward to coming back again next year (here for a conference).
The best of the best...I don’t often drop that amount of cash on dinner but when I do, there is only one choice in Indy. Not even a close second anywhere in the city, dare I say country, when you want the real deal upscale steakhouse experience!
I've been a customer for 25 years. Classic steakhouse atmosphere and the food never, ever disappoints. The place to eat when visiting Indy and you must try the shrimp cocktail.
After eating my way across the country in a ton of major US cities, and in 6 European countries, this remains to be absolutely my favorite restaurant that I have ever been to. The food is remarkable...even down to the bread you are given before your meal. Make sure to get the sole appetizer on the menu (shrimp cocktail). Easily the best cocktail sauce around. Make sure to ask what the special steak of the day is...always guaranteed to be good. The servers here are professionals, and the bar serves a killer dirty martini (not to mention the hand stuffed imported blue cheese olives). This restaurant alone makes Indy worth the visit.
The wedge salad was amazing with fresh made blue cheese and amazing bacon bits. The Old Fashion was excellent. The dry aged New York was very good, although not quite as good as Capital Grill in my opinion. Our service was great and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Great food. Appetizer is the bomb. Shrimp cocktail takes your breath away. The prime rib is out of this world. Porter house steak is more than I could eat. Will be back. Make reservations. Always packed. You will see why.
Absolutely wonderful place to go for any special occasion.
One of the premier steakhouses in the entire country. Excellent cuts of meat. An extensive drink menu that includes their extensive selection of wines from their wine cellar as well as exclusively picked bourbons from various distilleries. A top tier elegant atmosphere with excellent service. It's hard to find any better place to get a dinner in the city, much less in the country.
Great atmosphere and even better staff. Amazing experience overall. 10/10 reccomend
Wonderful evening with a table of four first-timers to St. Elmo. Service was excellent and attentive. Filet was also perfectly prepared to temperature and taste! The only "uninspired" part of the meal were the sides--mediocre at best. But otherwise a memorable event for all.
Expensive, but incredible dining experience. Had the filet, and it was melt in your mouth perfection. The shrimp cocktail cleared my sinuses right up and helped me enjoy the flavor of my steak. Service was superb. I'm from KC and this was at least as good as our best steakhouse, if not better. I'll be back next time life brings me through Indy.
Expensive as all hell but definitely worth going to once and saying that you've been there. Really awesome place and food!
Excellent steak house. Anytime I am in Indianapolis this is a restaurant that I have to visit. By far one of my favorites steak places.
This is the place to get a steak in Indy, in my opinion. Other places with super expensive steaks still don't do it as well as St. Elmo's. The potato I had with my meal was excellent: no hard spots, and all of it soft and fresh. The bread and butter that they serve with dinner is captivating. Of course, it is nigh required to mention their shrimp cocktail, which is amazing, and will blow your sinuses to little pieces. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I kind of wish that they would offer a slightly milder version of their cocktail sauce, like a 50% strength version with a little bit less horseradish. Sometimes it is difficult to taste the shrimp as your nose gets punched in ITS nose with horseradish.
Extremely loud. The food was good but too noisy for comfort. Nothing special. The shrimp cocktail has enough heat to blow your senses when the steak came.
Absolutely amazing experience. Wonderful atmosphere, great staff and excellent service. Definitely an experience worth sharing with those you love. Everything tasted amazing and the drinks were also incredible. Give it a try if ever you are in town.
Impeccable service. Best steak ever.
Excellent Food and their customer service! Food was perfectly prepared and served quickly. The servers were efficient and professional while being friendly and personable. I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family.
Great service and delicious food. The atmosphere is really cool too.
Probably the best steak I have ever had. First class service.
Great classic steakhouse. The shrimp cocktail has some kick but is amazing. Steak was cooked to perfection and our service was amazing. Their staff has worked there for decades and it shows with their high level of attentiveness.
Always a good time. Always meet interesting people each year when visiting for the Brickyard 400.
High class place with great food. Lobster bisque was amazing. The steaks are perfect!
We got here just in time before they closed. This place is absolutely great. The Shrimp cocktail was easily one of the best I had. There is a very strong horseradish flavor to it and will clear your sinuses up instantly but well worth it. I got the cowboy ribeye which was great. It had a great flavor. The baked potato that came with it was great as well. The creme brulee was very good. This place is a must if you have the chance to go.
Amazing steak! This is a must do stop if you are anywhere near Indianapolis. One of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Our waiter Glen was top notch! Great food, service, and atmosphere! You cannot go wrong here.
This is an amazing place full of history. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu, beverages and the history. The quality of the beef served here, particularly the aged beef selection was great. There was an interesting mixture of casually dressed and folks dolled up for special occasions dining here. Would come here again.
Place is amazing. Bar staff is rock solid. Food is always top notch. Make it to Indy 3 times a year and this is always a scheduled stop. Picture speaks for itself.
May 9, Afternoon I had just left my niece Stephanie's biennial colonic a bit lost in thought. After all, we had agreed to buy them for one another, but she (yet again) reneged on her promise. My waiter, Gaston, immediately recognized my furrowed disposition. "Who claimed your happiness today," he started. "I am not unfamiliar to your woe." "Garrett, I appreciate your concern, honestly," I rebutted. "Still, I don't have the strength in my heart to share with you my story." "Perfectly understood, ma'am," he continued. "By the way, it's Gaston." At this, as if by sudden inhibition and welcome, I comprehended his previous downfalls and shortcomings. His insecurities and perils in this world were unraveled for me. I felt a cohesion of soul and spirit with Garrett. In a flash, he produced an expertly executed flambay, just for me. Completely complimentary! This generous act of kindred redemption made my month. This experience will not be topped soon. I hope Mr. Elmo sees this and gives him an excellent raise. 10/10. Just... Wow.
Outstanding meal, great service! When they say that there is a lot horseradish in the shrimp cocktail sauce, they aren't kidding. Overall great experience would highly recommend.
Wonderful staff and amazing food ! We celebrated birthday dinner for a family member and they brought her a birthday card signed by the staff! So thoughtful. Beautiful restaurant and amazing food. The steak is melt in your mouth and I tried the lobster shrimp pasta dish which I absolutely loved. Pricey but a great way to celebrate a special occasion!
One of the best steakhouses I have ever been to. Steaks are outstanding and cooked to perfection, service is phenomenal as well. Make sure to make a reservation because it does get very busy! Well worth the price!!
Today was my first time eating here as I took my wife out to celebrate her getting permanent resident status. She had a large ribeye steak that tasted amazing. My self ordered a 40.00 fish and it was tiny not at all what I was expecting. So dinner was 96.89 was worth every cent for her to be happy.
Went with a group of 12, great food but service was impeccable. Our waiter Philip was the most professional and attentive to every detail continually that I've ever seen. Great place!
Great shrimp cocktail ! Love the Saint Elmo’s experience !!
I'm from Ohio, this place is excellent. Its on the high side of my budget, but sooooo worth it! I had the Ribeye and Shrimp cocktail. WOW!
Excellence from the moment we sat down. Thoughtful and sincere service; they pick up on every little detail, from the birthday card greeting for my sister all the way to the creme brulee dessert.
Glen was a fantastic server, food was wonderful, fun atmosphere.
Great place, excellent service. 10/10 would eat again! I had the Shrimp Cocktail and the shrimp was enormous. The sauce was the best part! They said 'a little bit goes a long way' and they weren't lying! By far best first-time experience at a restaurant.
Bill Shine was more incredible than any aspect of this true dining experience. His 30 years of experience showed! Most amazing service I have ever received. Not to mention the food!! Unreal!
Can't wait to see my next dinner. Food was great. The shrimp cocktail was the bomb. But the porterhouse is to die for.
Classic delicious steaks. Lots of cool Indianpolis ephemera on the walls. Fantastic service.
Absolutely amazing experience. Wonderful atmosphere, great staff and excellent service. Definitely an experience worth sharing with those you love. Everything tasted amazing and the drinks were also incredible. Give it a try if ever you are in town.
Try to make it here at once a year. It's a great experience and the food has always been exceptionally prepared. Recommend the dry aged options for steak.
Terrific service, excellent food, and great atmosphere.
Excellent steak and excellent service.
Not good. Steak was gressly, the shrimp cocktail was not as advertised. The dinner area was not appealing. Will not go back.
