REVIEWS OF Sakura IN Indiana

As legit Japanese as you can get in America. The things I loved here: the hot towels, matcha tea, orange ginger salad dressing, eel and tamago nigiri. Kushi dango Michu soy sweet dessert and soft shell crab dressed in sweet mayo on a special roll were so amazing I almost cried.

Erin Johns

Indy's best sushi

BadBunky1769

Have dined here several times a month for past 30 years! I must rate this food service business as a best kept secret for affordable clean dining! We compare other Asian food business by their standards. No one's been able to top Sakura's yet!

Carl Doninger

Five star food, three star service. The food keeps you coming back regardless.

DeFelice Family

Absolutely met every high hope that I had! Authentic Japanese dishes and outstanding sushi. Fresh fresh sashimi and nigiri. Only thing that could have improved was the time it took us to get our food but we weren't in a rush so no big deal. Definitely our new sushi spot even though it's not the closest to us.

Brady Quackenbush

My favorite place for sushi in Indy. Creative rolls and great noodles, too, at a good price.

Alan Chiu

Excellent service. Great food. Our favorite Nap restaurant in town.

August Rules

They have the BEST asparagus sushi I've ever eaten! Love this spot! It's small, intimate with good service!

Kenneth Cheng

Excellent sushi! Love it!

Charles Martin

This has been the best place for sushi and sushi rolls in Indianapolis for over 30 years. They have a second restaurant location called Ocean World. The head sushi chef is Japanese and has been trained professionally in Japan. They have an enormous menu of Japanese dishes available, that are all very authentic, high-quality ingredients and incredibly delicious. Pricing is fair, but expensive due to the high-quality ingredients and expert knowledge required to make Japanese food perfectly — delicious, balanced, beautiful presentation and visually appealing (picturesque appearance). Parking and wait times can be difficult to deal with as this place stays packed for the time it opens until close every day of the week, except of Monday when they are closed. If you're by yourself or you're a couple and can handle a bar stool, skip the wait with immediate seating at the sushi bar for a real treat. English, Japanese and Korean are all spoken by their staff.

DELISH FOOD VERY SWEET STAFF I LOVED IT SO MUCH OMG

Fred Krawczyk

My favorite sushi place on the north side

Jeanette Jones

The food here is second to none. There is a wide variety of choices and it is always so fresh! Their fish is delicate and clean tasting and the noodles are sublime! The cherry on top is that the egg in the soup is always cooked perfectly. Delicious!

Reimi Mizuguchi

THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT EVER! The food is so authentic, the sushi, the dessert, the side dishes. And the staff is so friendly! My friends and I had a rough day working at the mall but we felt so much love coming here today. Recommend to anyone who likes to be happy.

Ann Kramer

Have loved Sakura for 20+ years, still love it! Always delicious, never disappointing!

Jaron Strem

The sushi is amazing here. Best place I have had in Indianapolis. I have not tried there other menu items, but everytime I go by someone else's table that has something other than sushi, it looks unreal good!

Adam Tabb

This is an authentic Japanese sushi house. Looks like you would walk off the street in Tokyo. Excellent sushi and sake collection

FoxCat 317

Sakura is fantastic! So far this is the tastiest sushi I've had in Indy! I really like their deals on 20 oz bottles of Japanese beer!

kp s

If you are looking for a good, legit, sushi place you found it. Awesome atmosphere. Get the soft shell crab sushi. Take my advice its the best of all time. I like the sashimi too- go for octopus, squid, clam, CONCH, and sweet shrimp. Soft …

Jasmine Hunter

Been going to Sakura as a regular for years now. The staff is wonderful, and they truly serve some of the best Japanese food in town. Highly recommend it!

Jamey Coen

Virgil Staphbeard

Best sushi in town, hands down.

Justin Johnson

Very good rolls and nagiri, very fresh wasabi. Prompt and friendly service. Good value, but slightly inconvenient location and parking.

Artur French

Great sushi place. Had lots to choose from, Japanese beers and sake. Staff was very nice.

Jorge Rodriguez

Excellent as always.

James Hall

Best sushi in town. Period. Not fancy or showy. Just good food and nice staff. The wait is worth it if you go at peak times. I’m a big fan of the Nigiri Yokozuna and a soft shell crab roll on the side to split with another person.

Madison Upchurch

A great casual place with good quality food and good prices, dinner for 2 with wine and an appetizer for $60. Definitely going back!

Angela Wright

Sakura has delivered excellent food and service for more than 20 years of my life. Employees have become very friendly after so many years! Also, does not get more genuine for Japanese cuisine!

Cliffdiver97

Apps were awesome, great beer selection. The entrees' took a little while to get out, but in their defense they were quite busy. Still, overall definitely a 5 star joint for sushi. Affordably priced as well for the quality and amount.

Doug Bolt

Always consistently good sushi.

Jaime Bowling

Best sushi

Patrick Graham

Expensive but awesome. Best sushi in Indy.

Logan Dedmon

Amazing sushi in an unsuspecting place. Their presentation was spot on! I recommend making a reservation on the weekends.

Andrew Trefny

Go a block up the street to Tomo. You'll thank yourself. Sushi here was terrible. You can get better sushi at Kroger downtown. Also waited two hours for it. Waste of time and money.

Ben Hall

Best sushi in the Indy area

Keaton Veldkamp

Great selection of sushi and Japanese food. Can get large portions for groups of people too. Small venue though so expect long waits in a small entrance

Rob Flask

Sushi was good as always. Great rolls and sashimi. Their tempura is always lighter and crispy

kim henderson

Great sushi!

Anthony hatton

I live not to far from here Firstly, it seems to have the freshest sushi no matter when go stop in. Secondly, the service is great. I don't think I have anything negative to say.

Melanie Pugh

I drive by here all the time but didn't stop in until today. I am blown away by how delicious the sushi is! Try the Canadian roll and Hoosier roll!

Amazing good. Matches what I remember from the navy.

Sophie Coleman

I've been going to this restaurant for years and always gotta go on my birthday. Best sushi in town! Their softshell crab roll is the best. <3 Sakura

Kelia Li

Terrific authentic Japanese sushi and entrees. Service was on the slower side. Interior decor was tasteful and true to a casual dining establishment, probably Osaka. Portions are generous. Recommending the Texas Roll, surprisingly good.

S M K

Love love love this place. Best sushi in Indianapolis

Maggie M

Great sushi for an amazingly cheap price! Pro tip: call and make a reservation. Also you may want to order an appetizer if you order sushi. Definitely worth the wait!

Elizabeth Link

Took forever to get seated and served our food.

Janet Blocker

Wonderful meal and service!!

the one

Tables really small. Food portions not to my liking (small). Try others before making this a normal stop.

Ziad Шермат

This is not real sushi

Aditi Rana

Service took a really long time (1.5 hours) but the food was excellent. The fried and steamed dumplings were fresh and delicious and arrived quickly. The main course took a long wait but was great as well.

HappyHappy JoiJoi

The food was great; we were well- taken care of despite the place being so busy.

Lori Boze

Probably the best sushi in town. Recommend getting there early on the weekends especially because the wait can be long. Highly recommend the speciality rolls. The sushi is so good I've never gotten to the rest of the menu... yet. .

Lori Janssens

Favorite sushi in town so far. Mixed Florida roll & scallop roll are my favorite! So good I had it served at my wedding. Super Siam roll is excellent as well.

John Lane

Best in town. I have tried all the Indy sushi houses, been with these guys for many years. Great fresh food and warm kind staff.

Bobby Mittendorf

Amazing sukiyaki, good atmosphere and service. Tried many other menu items and have never been disappointed.

Tanya Bournique

Always great food.

Emily Gratner

Pricey, but well worth it. A big menu with a decent selection of saké and other Japanese beverages. Sushi was incredible and well crafted even at a busy hour. Will be returning!

Missy Ritchie

Very slow, however service was friendly. The space is small for the amount of people wanting to dine. Food was great!

Mary Lea McTurnan

I have been enjoying Sakura for 30 years. Best sushi in the Midwest

WellThisIsInterestin

Solid place for sushi and other Japanese favorites. The wait during busy hours for your food is pretty abysmal. Expect an hour or so between ordering food and having it at your table.

SIRI Zoll

This place is always busy, a lot of people because they have good food and sushi.

Erikaa Feinberg

Words to the wise: don't over order. Sushi was amazing. Bright and tasty. Interesting combos of sauces and fish and veggies/fruit. Out waitress was absolutely amazing and soooo sweet. Everyone was very helpful. Definitely worth a try.

So delicious! The sushi is arguably the best in Indy. It was fresh and had great flavor. Great service and good menu choices.

Dan Sun

Great food and good price.

Eunice De La Torre

Easily one of the best sushi spots in town. They have a unique assortment of sushi and every time I have been it's been amazing. The service has been good and the portions are perfect. It's also well priced. Whenever I am feeling sushi I think of this place.

Danky Kang

Best sushi in the state. I ate until I was full..and then ate more. My wallet is the only thing sad after eating here.

Kyle Romero

The atmosphere and service are amazing. The food is to die for. Huge portions and fresh.

Mariella Arredondo

Great food!

Janeth Espinoza

Excellent food and service! We will be back again!

Ben Pettingill

No one should have to wait in line for an hour only to be told that the sushi will be another hour before it is ready upon being seated. Also, the table where we sat was empty for 30 minutes before we sat! And other names were called that were behind us on the waiting list.

Tim Dudley

Hand crafted sushi!!!

Max Lindgren

Excellent food and service!! Had a great time, fresh fish was amazing!!

Tyler Oliver

Extremely poor service. Got there and seated at 5 and didn't get a plate til 630, and then the order was wrong. No one came by for drink refills, had to stop waitress for silverware, to get the right order, and for my bill. Food was decent …

Matt F

Some of the best Japanese food in town - a place you must experience.

Farukh Sarkulov

Good price, authentic Japanese food. Will be back!

Kyrsten Pruitt

I recommend making a reservation and keeping in mind the parking lot is small but it is 100% worth it. The food is phenomenal!

Quintin Coppola

Sakura gets my seal of approval...at least for lunch. The exterior doesn't look special...in fact, I have repeatedly passed this place on my way to work and did not take notice until I read an article. When you walk inside you enter a …

Adrienne Rupert

Truly the best indy has to offer.

Leland Vakarian

Well worth it. A little bit of a wait during Gen Con.

Lisa Budnick

Dianne McKee

Food great, staff great. Long wait for food, but worth it. Love the Ozeki nigori sake

Camille Cantwell

Best sushi in Indianapolis! I highly recommend it!

Courtney Senousy

Awesome sushi

Aria Nguyen

As far as Japanese restaurants go it's pretty good, a little pricey for the quality though. The bentos and special rolls are usually my go-to; relatively pricey but alwayd yummy. Also their green tea is lovely.

Sarah Batt

Very loud, very poor service. Our waitress was very attentive to the table next to us. We had to ask if we would get our appetizer - after the sushi entree was served. Excellent sushi saves it from being a one star review. Restaurants have no control over how loud their customers are, but the constant loud selfies at the table next to ours made normal conversation difficult.

Michael Blagg

Best sushi I've had in indy

Angela Wire

Best Sushi in town and great cost!

Rosana Miller

Great sushi. Great food. Super friendly to GPA.

Andrew & Megan Winters

Very consistent, reasonable prices, high quality sushi. Don't be fooled by the exterior. The atmosphere on the inside is just what you need on a Friday evening. They even allow you to make reservations which is a huge plus. Try the special rolls if you enjoy more than just plain maki.

rachael app

Awesome authentic Japaneese food. It's great for sushi and authentic Asian food. It's small, it's quaint and it's worth the wait on the weekend. Glad I found real authentic food place since coming back from Japan. It had been a struggle.

Alejandro Escalante

Nice place, but sometimes service is slow.

Corey Cordell

Our absolute favorite sushi in Indy. Perfect every time. Very high quality. Very authentic. Also have great menu of Non sushi items as well.

stephen benages

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere.

Nicole Leonard

The best sushi around! Fantastic service too! Ask about their loyalty/rewards card too!

Sarah Lauren

This place was awesome! I had been here once long ago before I got into yelp, so I’m glad I went back and have the chance to share about it while it’s fresh in my mind. Located on keystone ave actually up the road from my office you can find Sakura. It’s tucked back from keystone ave, you walk in, it’s Low lighting but not in a lay that you need a flashlight to see. Lots of tables and mini booths to sit at, it’s like a tiny maze! Service was prompt and friendly, and thankfully they allowed me to read through and make some decisions on rolls. They have your standard menu with different sushi options, ramen, and noodle dishes. Also your standard beer, sake and wine choices. Now I’ll be honest I’m not sure what it’s called by they have the paper menu that you can select different rolls and single pieces of sushi off of. Delicious and fresh! I’ll be back, and remember to take pics next time

Blue WInsome

Fantastic sushi.. probably the best in town and great service too!

James Roscoe

Excellent little place in Broad Ripple. Super friendly staff, terrific sushi, sashimi, and nigiri. The shumai should not be missed, and is served with a delicious wasabi mustard (use carefully!). Looking forward to my next visit.

Jonathan Bright

Their sushi is one of the best in Indy, has been for years. Reasonably priced as also.

Tsurue Matsuba

Friendly service and the food was so delicious. I felt so much love here❤️

WiLL G

Amazing

Zachary Farmer

Great, friendly staff. The food is always outstanding.

KWANWOO LEE

great food

alliovermo

Always great food but I will not eat in again. It took over an hour to get our sushi--they definitely prioritize the to-go orders over the eat-ins.

test Valdivia

Food is delicious and very traditional in comparison with other restaurants.

Meghan Bowers

I’ve been going to Sakura for as long as I can remember. Small mom and pop type restaurant, but the food is delicious. Sushi is always fresh, their ginger dressing is addicting, and I love their fish teriyaki. No matter what you order here, you can’t go wrong!

noda kindy

You can always count on great food at Sakura.

Kim L. Hooper

The best sushi in Indy.

Angel Lee

Legit Japanese food. Servers were all super nice. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Will be back real soon!!

Tatsuhiro Narifusa

The people are so friendly and loving. The sushi is well prepared and by far one of the best sushi I've ever had. Would definitely recommend if you ever want traditional Japanese food. Would definitely give it best

Jack Harford

Food was delicious.

Nick Vargo

Great sushi and a good variety of sake.

Byron Smith

Great experience! Fun friendly staff in an intimate atmosphere. I had sushi and was some of the best! I would definitely recommend going!

Kanti Crain

Lunch is always the best value there. For example, for around $11, I get 4 sushi, salmon teriyaki and rice with soup and salad. The best part is they are super delicious.

Eddie Blunt

Just amazing as usual. My husband and I had one of our first date here 7 years ago. We have never had a less than stellar experience at Sakura. The Softshell Crab Roll is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

Hassan Elmalik

Delicious. I wish it was larger. It can be very busy at peak hours.

George Lynch

The place has been around forever and the sushi is solid but the service is slow so be prepared.

Wayne Lewis

We came here on a trip through Cincy because of all the positive reviews. Our experience was meh. The place was packed (a great sign!). The lighting was very dim and the environment, seating, etc., was very dated and cramped. I had a variety of sushi, which was average. My son had a chicken tenderloin dish that he loved -- I tried it and found it a tough and greasy, but as long as my son enjoyed it, that's fine. Unfortunately, the smell of the bathrooms emanated into the seating area and took a star off this review itself. The bathroom itself was ancient, tiny, dimly lit, wet, and smelled like chemicals were just dumped in a desperate attempt to cover smells and any nasties that were growing. I can understand a place being really cramped for space -- some of those dives are fantastic places -- but the bathrooms made me question the condition of the kitchen and really the whole experience. On a positive note, people seem to love the place and the employees clearly know their loyal customers, as I saw numerous instances of hugs and cheery, personal hellos. I just wish the interior of the place wasn't so off-putting. Will not go back on our next trip.

Steve Hill

Best place for Authentic Japanese food

Mai K

Ok for Indianapolis, I guess. I had no problems with service at all. The server was very attentive. My issue is with the sushi. The neta was ok, but the shari was warm, soft and not seasoned.

Theresa Neff

Excellent food. Fresh and well prepared. Good value

Gennady Vayl

The best sushi place in Indy!

Lori RN

The original...quaint.

Brittany Hinesley

The sushi here was delicious! The staff was helpful and friendly. We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened for dinner on a Sunday, and even though a line had formed, we were seated immediately, and our table was visited right away by a waitress. The food took a little time to reach the table, but it was totally worth it, and if you have good company, who cares about a little wait? The place itself is small and dimly lit, but it adds to the coziness. Great place!

JustFluffyPanda

Some of the best sushi in Indy. Friendly staff and clean inside. The dining area is a bit small and can sometimes be cramped, but I think that is how they are able to maintain their quality of food. Always a treat to go here.

Robert Bristow

Great food

Neal Schlatter Jr

I love sushi. This place is one of the best! Indianapolis staple.

Jason Rain-king

Reasonable prices and very fresh sushi...

Gadolinium64

Good shrimp and chicken. However, the noodles were a little weak and the sushi was poor. Not a very pleasant environment and the soup was disappointing. .

Sincerely, Kirra

Such good customer service and amazing food every single time. Never a bad experience and awesome prices. Definitely recommend

John Kress

Always good, long wait for a table at certain times
