REVIEWS OF Puran Indian Restaurant IN Indiana

Brian Hastings

Good buffet, mild dishes but a good variety.

Katie Hallock

My husband and I enjoyed Anand's buffet the other day and after doing a little research I discovered that the same people own this place! This location even has a weekend buffet! So when we needed some food before leaving town, we visited Puran! Just like Anand, the flavors in all of the dishes were fantastic! My favorite was the Saag Paneer. My husband seemed to enjoy anything with chicken and the mango ice cream even more so!

Destiny D

It's okay but sometimes the wait is pretty long

Kelly Bowers

Two words: SAAG PANEER! Most delicious dish in the world. This place has perfected it. The staff is great. Water refilled almost after every other sip. They definitely take care of their customers here. Veg samosas & naan are a must also!

Vi Chau

Nuthin' fancy here, just GREAT Indian dining. A Bloomington staple for locals. Truely a treat for visitors, that will leave you trying to figure out how to get more after you return home. Try the chicken makhani with cherry naan.

Rich Peters

There are two parts of this restaurant, the diner and the buffet. The buffet is what earned this 4 star review. There are a pretty good amount of options, the food is wonderful (I recommend the chicken tikka masala) and it’s only 10 dollars which is a steal. The restaurant however is not my favorite. The food is the same, but probably fresher, however the entrees are decently expensive with a lot of food. I would prefer a smaller portion and cheaper price. The reason I shy away from the restaurant is that the atmosphere is just kind of strange. It’s not really that welcoming, the staff are a mixed bag of personalities, but communication is difficult in all cases. The buffet is worth the money though

Karen Greene

Food is delicious! We have been going to Puran since they opened. The family that owns it is very nice and always happy to greet their customers. It's nice that they have the buffet for lunch, so if you have never had Indian food you can try several different things. : )

H K.

Great food. Reasonable price. Friendly staff. They adjust spice levels to your liking whereas most Asian restaurants in town say the food come at a moderate spice level of 3. Excellent service

Sanjay Patro

Awesome food and wonderful service. My first time here and I will definitely be back!

We went there for dinner after a long ride for an hour to reach. I had Dal Soup, and its actually proper Dal Curry, which you can have it with rice or roti, rather than having it as a soup. Then we had Wheat roti and Navarattan Korma and btw, both tasted good. I have also tasted their Salted Lassi, which is again not a great thing. I could not finish it either due to a different taste or its salt, which I'm not sure. You may probably give it a try.

Food is delicious i cannot complain there, i think they have to modify their menu and keep only the specialities they have, they are excellent at few things and keeping the menu limited might be good for them. Apart from that i think people roll eyes at order that is kind of most annoying thing which is my own problem but that cant make a restaurant bad.

Dominique Nikki

This place customer service sucks

Aaron White

Nothing indicated as vegan on the menu. It would be great to know what I can eat and what I can't. Food had some good flavors but I only had two items. :(

Savi B

Really great food 10/10

Jon Maurer

I like the selection at the lunch buffet. My water is never less than half full.

Sarah Hovar

I love this restaurant. The service isn't always the friendliest, but they aren't rude. Just....quiet. Definitely endearing in a quirky way. The decor is warm. It's dimly lit so it sometimes puts me into a sleepy state after devouring all of my yummy food. The food is incredible. I've never been disappointed in any food I've ordered from here. The cherry naan is incredibly unique and amazing!

Jerel Simpson

I have been there several times and the food was good but the last I went I found hair in my food and the new manager acted like it wasnt a big deal. I will not return to this place. It was better before they changed the name. Also they are false advertising, the sign outside says 8.99 for lunch 9.99 for buffet and they are charging more then that so watch what you are being charged.

Scott Loken

Not that great of place. I’ve had way better. Service is good. Food is not.

Joel Abraham

Came in early evening and I ordered some samosa chaat. Loved the chaat and the staff was friendly.

Krishna Sharma

Puran is a very nice n clean Indian restaurant around Bloomington. I never had such a delicious naan as I had in Puran. Saag Paneer was just amzing. Definitely gonna recommend to friends.

Tj Wade

I have been eating here for years but NEVER will again. I found a roach in my food and they refused to refund both of our orders. Think twice before coming to this restaurant! When I figure out how to post the photo of it I most certainly will

Surbhi Maheshwari

hopeless food..waste of money...anyone can cook in their sleep better than the chef of Puran restaurant ..ordered veg Manchurian paneer karahi and garlic naam veg Manchurian-i dnt what it was at-least it wasn’t the thing i ordered but was eatable... paneer karahi-when they served it was served with out bell papers and only favor was tomato even that was not cooked properly then i asked them what they served because bell paper is must in paneer karahi, they recooked it and added bell paper still was as bad as old...

Steven Dean

Excellent meal. Simple menu selections and helpful service. Honestly, the best restaurant meal I have had in many months.

Yeshu Tirunagari

If someone is looking for authentic Indian food. This restaurant is not for them. Worst experience.

David Bock

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I waited at the entrance for a solid five minutes before I finally said screw it and left. When Little India was closed we gave it another shot and ordered carryout. Food was extremely bland and dry and tasted like Americanized indian food, totally lacking in spices. Not impressed and never going back. As well the inside of the place looked rather run down and dirty and very dimly lit, but not in a romantic sort of way --- rather in a 'we can't afford the electricity bill' sort of way.

Tish Milligan

This was a spur of the moment decision as we drove through Bloomington. My first experience with Indian food. The place is clean, the server was kind and patient. The menu clearly explains the dishes, which I was grateful for since I'm a complete novice! You are able to choose the level of spices/heat. It was delicious. We will be back.

linesh badole

Good for few curries.

Joe Young

Great food! Good selection to choose from. Great paneer, vindaloo chicken, tandoori chicken, carrot hallal, naan and mango ice cream.

Whoever has given this place more then 1 star is lying. Working for the owner or something. First off, no service. Dirty place. Should have left and said no. Looked at the food almost nothing veg to eat for the buffet. Still got the Buffett, ate the food all the food was cold. Everything was cold. Told them they did not care made me some warm nanns. Next thing my girlfriend found hairs in her food. Not one but multiple like a beard. Next thing you know we see a guy brining out the nanns with no apron, no hair net, with a full Punjabi beard. After that I was ready to leave. Told them food was cold and nasty. They did not care 25 bucks for 2 people where you can literally buy an Indian packet frozen next door and it taste the same. Hope it closes down. Bring real quality Indian food. While I was there for lunch on a Saturday. Not a single Indian. Should tell you enough! Dont waste your money and taste.

Bill

Great food

David Wicks

Simply put, it's delicious!

Evanielis Grissom

One if the BEST authentic East Indian restaurants in Central Illinois! Delicious food and very kind staff.

Americanized Indian food, not much spice in it. Ambiance is really nice. Go to this place if you are new to Indian Cuisine.

Surendra Mishra

Best quality food in Bloomington. Great ambiance. Owner is down to earth behavior.

Aaron Landry

The dipping sauce was very hold with flavors they went well with the appetizer.

Emilee Bell

I've been striving to find Indian food as good as Puran since I moved away two years ago, & I haven't found any yet. This place, the food, & the people that work there are the best!

anne minks

If I could give Puran more stars, I would in a heartbeat. We wandered in, on a Saturday afternoon, unaware of dinner serving at 5p.m. It was about 4:30, and we wanted to celebrate buying a new car. The host never hesitated, but welcomed us in, seated us, and helped us with a wine selection. He treated us as if we were frequent customers, when it was actually our first visit. This hospitality was duplicated by everyone who helped and served us. What a gift. Now, on to the food. What can I say beyond delicious? Aloo naan, lamb saag, and gulab jamur...all to perfection! We were treated attentively, and with a quiet, friendly manner. I could have eaten all evening, yet did not leave with a stuffed feeling. If we lived in Bloomington, I feel sure I would eat here too often to be good for me. Decatur is just the right distance, but make no mistake. I will travel there just to eat here. THANK YOU, Puran!

Mark Holt

Great place to eat. Had the buffet and it was super.

Ketan Deshpande Minnesota

Visited this restaurant during a business trip with clients. Great food but service and server attitude could be improved. One of us ended up asking a few questions and the server got a little bothered by them. Food was awesome!

Andy Streenz

Our go-to Indian restaurant!

Christopher Baird

Michael Plezia

Our favorite Indian restaurant. Love the staff, the food is always fresh. The buffet does leave a little bit to be desired, so I recommend ordering from the menu.

Kristin Barickman

Food Poisoning story: I am so sorry to have to write this review because our experience at Puran was nice - service was good, the place seemed clean and nice enough, and we enjoyed our food. We just went last night. However, I am fairly certain that I contracted food poisoning from the chicken korma that I ordered. I went with my husband and 1 year old who ate other foods and they were fine. But I got sick about 6 hours after eating and have been sick since. I haven't seen any other reviews mentioning food poisoning but I feel like this is something the restaurant and patrons need to know even if it was a one-time fluke.

Kathryn Waller

The tikka masala is SO good. So very very good. I paid $40 for two people, but the service is awesome and I had leftovers.

Pam Powell

We had the lunch buffet and it was wonderful. All the chicken dishes were fresh. The bread was wonderful. No complaints.

theecallie

The Chicken Tiki Masala is amazing! They are always friendly when I stop in.

Buffet in Bloomington was very good.

Came here on our way back to Chicago, this a little gem of a place. We ordered saag mushroom, aloo choley and mixed veg curry with garlic naan. Everything was outstanding. Disappointed as they did not have lassi. Staff were patient and courteous. Atmosphere was cozy for a late night dinner on a Sunday. Will recommend!

Russell White

This is the 4th or 5th time we have been here and their food continues to be excellent. The last two times specifically, their service was above and beyond friendly and very conscientious of our wants at the table. The host is very friendly with kind words each time we come. It is the only restaurant that all of my children ask to go back to.

Natalie White

Amazing Indian food. The best around

Kyle Kinsella

Tikki masala and naan are the best in town

Vance Black

Amazing authentic food at great prices. Lunch buffet and dinner. Buffet for two was ~25 bucks. Amazing quality and as always, left rolling out.

Rebecca Bingley

As always, great food and service.

Summair Brohi

So called Indian buffet that overcharges you and pretty much has complete third class service. Please don't take your kids unless you want the owner to hover on your head. I was 40 mins early before the shut off 2pm period, but the lazy workers were totally had me on the clock and kept reminding me that I'm cutting their work extra. Anyway the food was old the chicken tasted like it was frozen 4 years ago. The naan felt like cardboard and the curry were overly evaporated. Felt like stuffing dry masala down my throat. Owner charged me 2 times for a low standard buffet with zilch options. I'd be more happier at a China buffet. My kids ate nothing, I told them that but still charged me for it. Whatever I'm not going back anyway. Bye good luck.

Absolutely incredible every time

Samantha Case

Attentive waiters and delicious food!

Sanjay George Charles

Worst Indian preparations ever! Had to throw away all of our take out! First and Last time that we go there for any Indian food in Bloomington.

Holly Walters

I had never had this type of food before. I very much enjoyed the food. I ordered the chicken saag and Nan and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. The atmosphere was quiet and quaint as well as classy. I would definitely eat here again.

BASINA ADITYA

Poor service, staff talk around guests loudly in a different language. Restraunt have like 3 guests and ot took them more than half to bring me a single item order. Food taste ia acceptable through not worth for money. It is way expensive for the service they provide. I would say this is the best example for how restraunts fail, even if they have good food.

Nicole Boozer

We ordered off the menu and got chocken vindaloo and chicken karahi both medium spicy, garlic naan, raita, and kheer. The entrees were delicious and the perfect level of spice. Garlic naan and raita were perfect accompaniments. My husband lovws the kheer. Overall a bit pricy, but the food was excellent and we look forward to going back.

Pamela Overmier

Always delicious and courteous staff. Vegetarian and meat dishes. Garlic Naan is a favorite bread.

Ray Martinez

Excellent buffet lunch! Lots of favorites with vegetarian options as well. The buffet is constantly kept up with fresh food and the atmosphere is pleasant. Most food has a little to a bit more of spice but nothing overpowering. Definitely will return.

Rimpi Girn

Best food and best customer service we stop here on our way back from vacation and food was just delicious said my 3 year old love to come back again

Matt Wright

I love this place. I had only tried Indian food once before going but the first day I tried Indian food at Puran, I went everyday that week to try a variety of the items they serve. The service is wonderful and they always make it feel like they want your business. The food always comes fresh and hot to the table and doesn't take very long either. My favorite dish is their Chicken Tikka Masala at a heat level of around 3-4, it's amazing. Garlic Naan is one of my favorite breads and their Samosas are a great appetizer item.

LEGO Park

This place could be the best Indian Restaurant in Bloomington and the staff members are nice. However, I think this place is a midiocre.

ganesh mahadevan

I had to wait 50 min for 3 box of curd rice and a plate idly for togo. The curd rice had salt three times more than it should have and we just throwed it away. And also the rice was not cooked completely. I would never recommend this place.

Keyur Mandani

We were in Hurry and So Ordered food on phone to dine in. Food was delicious though but not as we asked. Beer collection is good. Interior is good and spacious.

kenney kilman

The food was tasty and their tea was delicious

Joshua Carey

The food is great and has been every time. Be aware that regardless of what their website let's you do, there is no online ordering. I made that mistake today. Ended up not being a problem, they quickly made my order and was ready in less than 15 min.

Mallreddy 21

Waste of money.... I never ate such a waste food.... "0-taste"

Deonte Mayfair

My personal favorite Indian restaurant in town. The chicken curry, garlic naan and samosas are great.

Robin Loeschen Hatley

Some of the best tikka masala that I have ever had. Great service and an outstanding buffet!

Chloe Machula

So delicious!!!

Eddie Breitweiser

Flavorful, inexpensive Indian (north and south) dishes. The staff is very nice. Generous portions for the price - fun place to go with a few friends and eat family-style. Plenty of vegetarian options. Best sag paneer in town!

sanjiv shekhar

By indian standard I would rate this place 2 out of 10. Very average food.

Shrenik Vora

This restaurant charges more than advertised. Although they advertised $8.99 for buffet during the week and $9.99 buffet during the weekend. They charged us $12.99 for buffet. I also noticed that they charge more sales tax (Bloomington rate is 8.75% and they charge 10%). The owner's son, who wears a cap all the time behaves very rudely. If he is around, he always finds a way to charge you more. The true Indian food taste can't be found here. Please stay away from this place. Not worth spending your hard earned money at this restaurant.

William Schneider

explosive flavors!

Lisa Woods

Food good if unadventurous. Only have done carryout so can't really speak to in-house service. Prices at the high end of reasonable but location is convenient.

Alan Cring

The Sunday lunch buffet was quite good and surprisingly less expensive than I would have expected, although the selection of dishes was not large. As far as the cuisine on a regular night is concerned, it is extensive, the servings are fairly generous, and the staff is great.

sukhjinder singh multani

New staff don't know how to talk with customers. Very disappointed

Andrea L

The food was delicious and the staff was very nice and helpful!

kelsey Jorgensen

Food is good. Service is spotty. Went there three different times and the food was really good every time. Would have rated 4 or even 5 stars but for service. Some competition will definitely help.

Food and ambiance are good

great food always and good sized portions. We usually order a main course and one or two naans and it's more than enough for the two of us. Malai kofta and aloo saag are firm favorites.

Dona Shepherd

The food was EXCELLENT!!!! Service was great. I believe they should update their decor but other than that a great place to eat!!!

The food was not good at all. The chicken biryani was like fried rice and the chicken curry was absurd. I don't think I would recommend this place for Indian food.

I am a big fan of Indian food as a vegetarian with a meat eating partner because there are options for both of us. Overall, I was happy with my experience at Puran. The staff were some of the most attentive I have ever seen (granted we were the only ones in the restaurant for a large part of the time). The food was some of the best Indian I've had. I couldn't stop commenting on how good it was. I found the price a tiny bit high for the portions but it was totally standard for Indian food. Seriously good food and service. would recommend over and over again.

Sara Chapman

Delicious!

Saber Mohammed

One of the worst food in bloomington..customers get attracted by pictures tasteless food and its very expensive to compare other indian resturant.

Nate Anderson

Qeren hap-puwk Yisra'el

The samosas were delicious. The flavors of the food was really good. However, my lamb was extremely overcooked, and I think the naan was microwaved. It was extremely tough and chewy.

Andy Kent

Sorry for bad review I have been visiting this place for years. I really loved this place the food, service and the ambiance. The servers even knew my order. Many servers changed but the guy called Peter still works. Food taste hasn’t changed for years saag panner, chicken tikka masala and Garlic Naan. Peter always take care of us he refills water regularly. 6 month back they had really nice servers with proper dresscode Non of Bloomington Indian Restaurant has proper dresscode expect Puran Indian Restaurant. This Friday I visited the restaurant . The restaurant was not that busy a short guy with a hat on his head was your server never in my life I saw a server with hat on head. He was so rude and even don’t know to speak proper English. He was so busy on his cellphone texting someone he didn’t even refill our water . I hope the management has not changed. If this remains the same I’ll never visit this restaurant.

Jules D

My boyfriend and I are weekly regulars here. Great food, and awesome service (they know our order when we walk in the door). Best garlic naan I've ever had. Wish I could replicate their chicken tikka masala and chicken curry recipes! To die for!

Amanda Sara

Puran Indian Restaurant is one of my favorite restaurant in town. I have been visiting for past four years . I just love panner masala and spicy is always right. I always recommend this place to my friends. But I was disappointed with my last two visits. To start off with our server wearing a black cap did not had any smile on his face he was our server both d times 1st time we just ignored but 2nd time also he was the same he was so rude full of attitude he did not even know to speak proper English did not even refill our glasses we had to call him specially to refill our glasses in my experience I know Puran had the best wait staff but now it’s totally changed the management need to do something about it if this continues we will definitely not coming to this restaurant.

Monica SANDERS

Best Indian food in town & courteous staff.

Blair Reiter

Best Indian food I know of, and I live closer to Chicago than I do to Bloomington. The service isn't the best, but the food is worth it. The chicken tiki masala is my favorite. I try to come here each time I'm in the area.
