REVIEWS OF Mikado IN Indiana

Chad Musselman

Really good and fresh sushi. It may be a few dollars more than others but it's gooood. The downfall is the time it takes to get the food. My wife and i had to wait about 30 minutes for our order. We were still hungry at the end of the meal so we're going to get another roll but it was going to take 45 minutes... uh, not acceptable. Then it took them 20 minutes to get us the check. UPDATE: My wife and I went back and the service was much better. Food came out fast and service was great. Apparently on our trip they were down a chef.

Peter Redden

What a difference a year makes. Last year fine this year a complete train wreck after the sushi. Ordered 3 fillet dinners only to have the arive undertemp and atop ice cold rice and veg. The replacement veg and rice also cold meanwhile the steak sit and die upon the plate. The offered solution..more rice and veg served with a complaint that too many people were trying to help.

Dav W

Absolutely the best Japanese restaurant in Indy. I recommend the Katsu Chicken Curry!

Brandon Coday

I'm not what I would consider a "sushi person," but Mikado definitely was great food! The atmosphere is perfect for dinner with a significant other or a group of close friends.

Chance Cooper

Excellent sashimi... And rolls.

Michael Dickman

Whenever my wife and I travel to Indy, we make it a point to stop at Mikado. Along with a great atmosphere and wonderful service, the food is excellent. We always get sushi and desert is complex and satisfying. Would strongly recommend if you looking for great food.

Julia Ashton Kohl

Having just returned from a trip to Okinawa, Japan, my husband and I had to check out Mikado. Really cool layout inside of the restaurant with different areas - hibachi, regular tables, traditional seating. Food was good. Not quite as good as being in Japan, but very close. :) Service was great and the wait staff were very kind.

Cynthia DeVine

Delicious sushi at an okay price for being in the city.

Mary Douglas

Great Sushi!

David Abram

Biggest problem is the $45 service charge that was included on my bill. This included a service charge for sales tax. Can't give five stars for a negative thing. I'll detail the food later. Definitely delicious

Dani Renae

Went here for my birthday and absolutely loved the sushi here!

Robert Myers

Nice place, central locale, good service, food is decent not great.

Aimee yearight

Great sushi and great customer service!

Hyrulian Panda

Absolutely amazing. Some of the best sushi and fish I have ever had. 10/10 would recommend again.

Rob Acton

Small portions, over priced, and a small maki menu. I have been three times over the years and have been disappointed every time.

Carl Doninger

Family owned excellent Japanese food and especially well made sushi.

Brayton Goebel

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SERVICE. Waited for 25 min with no service, even after asking for our sever. Did not stay.

Aleksey Romanikhin

Bland curry chicken. Bland seafood soup. Mushy old salad. 2 star food but because of the price ($21 for chicken breast and white rice) this only deserves 1 star

Charles Martin

$$$. Mikado is the best place for sushi in Indiana. They use incredibly fresh ingredients in all their dishes, with meticulous attention to taste, texture, temperature and presentation, in a very comfortable, serene and relaxing environment, with very attentive service from all their staff. They also offer sushi bar seating, that allows the dinners to interact directly with the sushi chefs and see firsthand the level of care, precision and skill involved in making really fantastic sushi, sashimi and sushi rolls. You simply can't go wrong in selecting this place to dine and experience really authentic Japanese cuisine and a lovely dining experience. The only downside is parking is very limited and expensive since they are located downtown. Many elect to drop-off their party at the door and then go hunt for parking nearby. Don't let the parking situation dissuade you from experiencing this Michelin-star worthy dining experience.

Catlin Marie

Tonight they had extended hours and a limited menu. It was wonderful

Carrie Beasley

Makido’s Mystery Sushi Roll was such fun to see what surprise I would receive and it turned out to be one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever eaten!

Dave M

Really good dood, wasabi could use more kick, other than that, really solid.

Darin Johnson

Fantastic sushi!

Jez Senden

A bit pricey for my budget, but the quality of the food and service is always top-notch. I make a point to always order one Mystery Roll every time I go in, giving the chef permission to surprise me and it's always been delicious. The tonkatsu is some of the best I've had (though it always makes me mourn the fact that I've never seen katsudon on their menu).

Rachel Edmunds

It was good food, was happy with service

Andrew Steele

Traditional sushi bar. Very good experience

Amey Karnik

Very cool ambience. Limited veggie options, though my friends loved the meat options. Make sure you check with server if you have dietary restrictions

gtafgtaf

Good sushi

Danielle Johnston

Wonderfully warm for this weather and so cozy in atmosphere.

J LeFaive

Knowledgable waiter, great presentation, and fresh flavor. This was a fun experience again. We go every time we visit downtown Indy.

Jeff Kayati

Simply the best sushi in the Midwest. Always a must go when I am in Indy!

Lilly Lueck

Stopped here for lunch while visiting for a conference. The place was calm and quiet, which was highly welcome. Ordered the mystery roll and miso soup. Who can resist a mystery roll?! Both were delicious and the service was great. Perfect choice for lunch.

Thomas Wysocki

Best sushi place in Indy.

Steven White

Gracious service, very good sushi, a bit pricey realtively speaking, but I'm used to sushi in cities like Chicago & Milwaukee. And oh my, Sapporo on tap!

Vince Roberts

The sushi is very average.

Shannon Mahan

Two blocks from the Convention center on Georgia Street is a quiet oasis of food, comfort, and quality. I visited Mikado three times in a week and I never left unsatisfied. My favorite was the bento box (you might want to share with someone). One unusual custom was the small river stone in each place setting to rest you chopsticks on.

Aaron Batilo

I'd call it a fairly standard sushi restaurant. I wasn't blown away by anything but it wasn't bad by any means, either. It's in a convenient location if you're already downtown. The service was great. They give you a nice warm towel for your hands when you sit down.

sabrina modellas

Sushi looked great, gyoza and sunomono were good. Rib eye was wonderful. Service was fast and attentive! I'll plan to come back next I visit Indy.

Jesse Herbert

Usually pretty decent. Unfortunately I just learned not to sit at the sushi bar. It took 20 minutes and never got to order food. Maybe they were understaffed today?

User Name

Amazing sushi. Best rice in town. Great fish. Try the monkfish liver pate (ankimo) nigiri. Mind blowingly good.

Joan Gilkey

This place was so delicious. Authentic food that took us back to Japan.

Jake Western

We have been going to Mikados for literally since they open a little over 20 years. The steak rolls are the best the sushi has not changed ,The taste of the food not changed.Literally when you bite in to the California roll it brings you back to when you first went to this place. One of the Bests restaurants in Indianapolis Best food Always Fresh andatmosphere for large crowds or just a date nite couple. We have never gotten a bad meal or weird vibe from Mikados a true sushi experience with the best service

Priscilla March

I love the atmosphere and the interior of the restaurant as its really ellegant. They also have a great variety of delicious sushi!!

Günter Tesch

Great service. Great food. Absolutely recommendable

Krystal Quinn, LMT

From out of town. Stopped here during a conference. The restaurant was delightful. The sushi was excellent as was the fried rice. Fast service and the waitor was very personable.

MPC2160

The sushi here is absolutely amazing. I visit once a year for a convention and the highlight of the trip is my lunch at Mikado. One wouldn't expect to find amazing sushi in the middle of Indiana, but you can.

Todd Tiemann

Excellent sushi and fun appetizers. Service was good. Uni was surprisingly fresh.

Andrew Roberts

Food here is amazing. I had the Tonkatsu and it was absolutely delicious. Edamame was great as well. Great sushi (or so I'm told from my friend who likes sushi).

Thomas Hinton

The food and decor was great. Service was excellent.

Jessica Morley

Sushi was very good but a little over priced. Our waitress was wonderful though. It's got a very nice ambiance and is lovely inside. Just a little over priced for the rolls.

Keith Jones

The food, as always, was exceptional. Our server was doing well until she was sent to take care of a party. Somehow, all of her other tables got coverage; Yet we were left to fend for ourselves. They could do with some new chairs too.

Nintendo Challenger X

Completely awesome place, really good food, if I had to critique one thing, my rice wasn't sticky. But that's a minor detail.

Daniel Babicz

Mikado's atmosphere and amazing, and attentive wait staff is the only reason I have this place 3 stars. The food was the definition of mediocrity. The grilled squid was uninspired, plain, and thrown in some ginger flavored water. The sushi was run of the mill at best with a Eel Avocado Roll, and a Spicy Tuna Roll costing $8 a piece. If you want a culinary masterpiece, this is not the place to go. But for a chill little spot and great ambiance with incredible staff, you can give it a go.

Gage Brown

An amazing place to stop in and eat right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Food was phenomenal. Definitely going back!

Sarah Macris

Mikado has good food and a typically friendly staff (I've been a couple times when they were busy and some of the servers are short, but I understand they just have a lot on their plate). They have always done a great job accommodating my dairy allergy and they are quick to make suggestions should a piece of food not work out. Their rolls are a little small, but the food is always spot on and the service is relatively quick. We are typically in and out in just under an hour.

Austin Trueblood

Best sushi I've ever had. However, I did get food poisoning for 24 hours (not their fault, just a risk you take with sushi, it happens people). Staff was amazing. Great atmosphere. Great sushi.

Adam W

Some of the best tasting/ feeling sushi I've had in Indy, but the price point doesn't justify it. If money is no object to you, or you're looking for a nice meal downtown that isn't steak, this may be the place for you.

killthesnail

perfect date spot

Daniel Rodriguez

Great food, a bit on the expensive side.

Louis Celli

A class act. Not a lot of places to get sashimi in this town. Fourty Five degrees is fun and they have great sushi, but Mikado is authentic Japanese cuisine, complete with Soba noodles, sushi and sashimi dishes, hot pots, and mich more. There's even traditional Japanese dining rooms if you are so inclined. An easy walk from just about anywhere downtown, Mikado is across the street from three Steakhouses that probably get the lion's share of formal diners in that area, but if you're looking for a great meal, reasonable prices, and I've never encountered a wait time there, check out Mikado. Fresh food excellently prepared, cheery and attentive staff, clean and well decorated with warm traditional Japanese build out and able to accommodate large or small parties. Always a good showing everytime we go.

Lucina Tan

very delicious food, price is fair. love their sushi. will come back there if we get a chance. nice and quiet place.

Daniel Taskey

I love the feel of the place. I ordered a four rolls. The most interesting part of the meal was the monkfish liver patte. Our party had mixed reviews on the disk. It is one of the more unique items I have ever had. If your feeling adventurous, try it and share your thoughts. The rolls and other food ordered by my party was perfect. The service was on spot and the whole team was attentive to our tables needs if the server was away putting in orders etc.

Daniel Shannon

One of my favorite sushi spots around. Great date spot. Extensive wine list and decent beer list. The quality of food is really good.

Stanley Mclain

Great food

Elisabeth Ploran

Great work lunch, everyone was able to find a bento box or sushi set for their tastes (set B, with the California roll, tuna, and spicy crab salad roll, was very good). Folks with the tonkatsu box were very happy with the sauce on the side and our gluten-free guy was thankful they had gluten-free soy sauce. Service was attentive, drinks were refilled readily. Highly recommend!

R00s73r

Service is always good. Sushi is on par with what I would expect from somewhere in the middle of Indiana.(not high expectations). It's a tad on the pricey side for what your get though. Seems like a great place for groups, as they have private group dining areas.

Dylan Birdsong

The place is great! Come here every GenCon. Always always always get a mystery roll. They are the best! I can't speak for the rest of the menu but I've gotten nothing but amazing sushi from this place.

Varian Mattingly

The wasabi dumplings are with going on their own! Great food! Awkward service, a very enjoyable time.

Jamille Belmonte

My go-to sushi spot in downtown if not Sakura on Keystone.

Olen Gravel

Great food and great service. Nice options on the menu. Decore was nice and their are mutiple seating options. Bathroom small but clean.

Trent Novak

Good sushi at fair prices, especially considering the downtown location. Was there during Gencon and the service was quite fast.

Joshua Schwartz

Waist of time. Didnt have the food they advertise. Wayyyy too expensive as well. Went to the brewery next door.

Spencer Quattlebaum

Incredible atmosphere and food. The experience was fantastic. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Brett Monroe

Excellent! Food was perfect, service was too notch!

Aaron Pingel

Amazing food. As a person who doesn't normally eat anything related to seafood, the seaweed wraps were fantastic.

Josh King

Pretty rude, poor service, substandard food at a higher price, added gratuity on a smaller party without informing beforehand. Regret. Regret. Regret.

Ron Robert

Fresh and flavorful sushi and sashimi for those who like it - and a good selection of other menu items for those who don't.

Jenny Willenberg

Even though we went during Gen Con and they were super duper busy, the food and service was excellent. The wait was a very reasonable 15 minutes. The host was professional and friendly. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. The food was lovely to look at and delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Brittney Marie

The sushi was amazing. Great place and a great price!

Garrett Howell

Amazing. Highly recommend. Great food great prices

David Michael Gregg

Delicious, diverse menu and flexible chefs. I'm a frequent visitor, and I am always pleased.

Andreu Maroto

Clifford Kimpel

Awesome sushi and sake

Dominic Tourville

The quality and atmosphere of this place is fantastic. I always come here when I'm in Indianapolis! You should too.

Jack Burnham

Really great food

Dave Dufeau

Wonderful sushi in an elegant atmosphere

Denise York

The atmosphere is great. Beautiful inside. The sushi was good. I also ordered teriyaki chicken. It was very very bland. The service was good though.

Vaidehi Patel

Amazing food, great service. Definitely will go again.

Jen Brown

I decided to try their Katsudon after watching the anime Yuri on Ice. I did carryout and it was absolutely delicious. Easily enough pork cutlet and rice for two meals. I also got the Shisamo whole grilled fish. It was very good and just the right amount of salty. Came four whole unfileted fish with two slices of lemon for one serving. I'm glad that I tried it. The hostess let me know that you traditionally eat all of the fish, bones included. I found the bones very soft and easy to eat. I've never bitten off a fish head before so that was an experience. Overall, very tasty!!

zu phlos

The sushi took so long it was warm. We were the first people there to order and our sushi arrived after others who also ordered sushi. When we complained to the manager no solution was offered.

Nikki Kirkwood

Absolutely delicious, loved the Fuji Mountain. Service was amazing and our server Agnes was amazing!

Elizabeth Harmon

I wanted a nice, tender, thick piece of fillet mignon and my friend wanted sushi. Luckily, neither of us had to compromise! I didn't think the steak would be as good as it was and I was so happy with the experience! The food was absolutely delicious. I highly suggest the beef rolls! They also have the best miso soup I've ever tasted. This place makes me wish I didn't live halfway across the country because I could eat here multiple times a week!

David Hentz

Very tasty. Good for Udon or sushi. Great location next to a parking garage, too.

Marshall Salvador

Whenever my wife and I travel to Indy, we make it a point to stop at Mikado. Along with a great atmosphere and wonderful service, the food is excellent. We always get sushi and desert is complex and satisfying. Would strongly recommend if you looking for great food.

Max

Great food! The sushi and curry chicken is amazing!!! The owner and the staff were also very nice. A must go place in the downtown area.

Dylan Lusk

We stumbled upon this place while looking for food during the annual GenCon in downtown Indy after being told we would have an hour or more wait at some other places. We stumbled upon a gem. As someone who has been to Japan, several of the dishes called back fond memories of meals I'd eaten years ago. The sushi is more American style, but it is a absolutely delicious (and sashimi is available, and fresh). The meal is a little on the pricey end if you are looking for a cheap meal, but the quality more than justifies it. Will happily dine again in future years. Service was great, keeping our glasses full, and food came out in plenty of time.

Arufonsu Shisho

Should be better due to the price. We both got chicken katsu, one with curry sauce and the other with tonkatsu sauce, and they came with miso soup, rice and veggies. It wasn't worth the price, everything could have been better, and service was alright. Atmosphere was nice.

Kynten Hannon

Very nice place with a open, but cozy atmosphere. Ambient rooms, and the service is great. We came at about 2pm on a Friday and it was really quiet. We have been here nearly two hours without interruption, seating was prompt, our waiter is attentive without being overbearing, and our food was presented beautifully as well as being delicious.

Kenta Nanaya

Place is amazing and well worth the price of food, staff was amazing and incredibly friendly

Wi11yBi11y

very long wait

Jamar Scott

Mick Credere

Amazing. Unexpectedly great sushi!

Javier Larrea

Eddie Rodriguez

When in Indy, it's my go to spot for sushi downtown!

Carol Suttle

The ambiance was lovely, the food was superb (we shared a salmon roll, I got the curry chicken, he got the tonkatsu), the service was excellent. The curry chicken tasted just like it used to when I lived in Japan, it brought back wonderful memories.

Carlos Gerardo Urias

Very good sushi !! Yummy !! Must go in indy

Kelly Daniels

Any time I'm in Indy I make at least one trip to Mikado.

Eric Engstrom

Great Japanese food, beyond sushi.

Pri Bri

Good sushi, nice staff, nice selection of sakes

Adrian Velasquez

Attentive staff. Food is great but expensive for it's quality. I would still recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.

Investor93 Bethea

great service, fresh sushi

Edvin Karic

Good food and service

Zaky-Bear

Best sushi I've had in the Midwest.

Mike Gibson

Best sushi in downtown Indy

Kevin Billenstein

The sushi was pretty high quality. As one would expect it is a little pricey. All we tried was several rolls and a few nigiri; we were impressed with the flavor, quality and quantity. The decor was good and some of the seating resembled traditional Japanese seats with an American flare.

Rachel Neely

The food was excellent. The service was phenomenal!

willowren85

Service was excellent. Premium pricing though. I had the pork and I was basically charged $18.00 for a tenderloin I would expect to find at a street vendor sliced up and served over rice, a few vegetables, and cold mashed potatoes that seemed they were supposed to be served chilled? I have no complaints about the staff, but the food did not seem worth it for paying to park and what was served. To be fair, I did purchase the least expensive entree so if you're expecting to drop $40-$50 per head you might find better value.

Joel Pedigo

Great sushi, service and scenery

Hal Sellars

Excellent sushi coupled with excellent service. Amazing atmosphere. Makes for a great evening with your significant other.

Valeria Contreras

My husband and I came for GenCon but OMG did we enjoy our time at Mikado. The sashimi and nigiri was extremely fresh and delicious. I do recommend the plum wine, it's super soft and sweet. Agnes was incredible. She made our visit so enjoyable. The quality of the food is amazing.

Matthew Sartori

Great service and good food. Selection was OK. Pricey, but what you'd expect next to the convention center.

Imogen M

It's such a cute place for a date night or just a casual dinner. I ordered the Nebeyaki Udon and it's very filling and yummy !!! Definitely would recommend to anyone who likes Japanese food

Danyele y

Very good food and price was what I would expect being downtown.

Danielle Aquino

Sushi is so delicious. They have a fantastic menu, staff is top notch and atmosphere is perfect and comfortable

Jason McIntosh

Delicious meal and a great change from most of the normal restaurants in this area.

Britty Ukestad

I ordered way too much food. It was my first experience with hot sake

Jessica Marshall

The service was wonderful and fast, and the sushi was very good. The tempura got soggy very fast, but beyond that everything was tasty.

Nathan Majewski

drinks were pretty good. sushi selection was pretty sparse and the rolls we got were edible

Brandon Flynt

The mystery roll was one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had!

Steve Berg

We enjoyed the sushi that we ordered. The place is a bit dated. The server we had was great.

Kamaskigrub O

Great place to enjoy sushi in the downtown area . Friendly staff and great service . Top quality ingredients all around this is a great place to take friends and co workers looking for great sushi restaurant.

John Esslinger

Food was delicious and the staff was quick and courteous. even during a significant lunch rush.

John Kress

Excellent food, service and ambiance.

Dominic Kenney

Delicious food. Bento box is great, but meant for two people on portion size. Kind servers Willing to help guide less knowledgeable customers through the menu for what things are in different menu options.

Allen Karns

Years ago a friend drug me out of my comfort of cornfields to this place in downtown. After at least 5 years and trying many places, Mikado is the best I have found. From the quality of food to the inviting smiles bringing the hot sake. Stop in for a quick roll at the bar or bring the whole group for an evening not soon forgotten.

Heather Fryman
