Onion rings are huge!!! The Scotty eggs are like a small meal so good! Great beer choices. Staff was great. They were friendly and helpful. Chocolate cake is a chocolate lovers dream. Cheese cake is good as well.
Excellent, authentic menu. Excellent service. Selection of libations were of fine eclectic , and authentic essences. A place where people , of all ages, can go for a relaxing epicui experience.
The food is very good
Great food and great service.
Food was ok, went during dinner rush. Waited.for a.table elsewhere for about an hour and decided to look elsewhere. Stumbled onto this place, no wait. Know why now.
My husband and I have been here twice from the recommendation of my parents! Both times super good food/drinks and the fastest service anywhere we have been and we travel everywhere! My husband got the fish and chips both times and loved them. I had the roast beef Manhattan first time which was wonderful and very filling and got the shrimp and chips the second time which are good and very filling as well. Their bread pudding was fantastic!! This last time we got the onion rings and some of the best we’ve eaten! So so good! Everyone has been nice and welcoming both times upon entering. If you need a hearty yummy meal and short on time, this is your place!
Update! After the owner reached out to us and apologized for our first experience and the owner made it right with us, we decided to try again. Our second visit was a complete 180 our server was friendly and outgoing and really felt she enjoyed working there. Once we placed our order we were finally able to meet the owner in person. He once again was very apologetic and caring for our first visit and was very excited we came back to give it another shot, AND WE ARE SO GLAD WE DID! The food was nothing short of AMAZING! My husband who is from Edinburgh Scotland thought he was back at his granny's house with how amazing the food was. We are so thankful to we came back! We recommend this restaurant to anyone!! We will be back!!!!!!!! First time here, not impressed at all... Took the server 10 mins just to seat us when the place had like 3 customers in it. Sat down and ordered.. I got the fish and chips and my fish was soggy... I needed a refill on my drink as the server sat in the front by the window on her phone. 20 mins later she comes.. Not impressed with this place at all and I had such high hopes...
Pretty good ambience. Didn't really like the food, then again my friends did like the food. So it is more of a personal thing. I would suggest giving it a chance and not judge the place by the ratings given by me.
Great food, beer, and service. Exactly what you would want from a comfy pub.
Awesome atmosphere, great service, food was fast, beer was nice and cold
My favorite beer (Robert the Bruce), a burger so big you have to fold it twice, and the best ice cream flavor I’ve ever had (toffee and beer!)
Love this place. Highly recommend the bread pudding
We went there for Devour Indy and the price for the food was super good. I would definitely go back. I had the fish and chips and it was super good. My favorite part was the bread pudding which was some of the best I've ever had.
The haggis was great, and the beer selection was extensive. Great service!
MacNivens is a fantastic pub with great beers and food! I'll come here on a Friday or Saturday and get a beer usually a craft but their menu has been good no matter what I got and I'll grab an entree usually some fish n chips or something hearty and comforting. I suggest trying their Shepard pie if you haven't it has a different approach in presentastion but it was quite satisfying. If you are up for it, give the haggis a shot. It may sound distasteful, but it is good and a fun experience you can do with your friends.
Very loud more than any bar I've ever been to and I go to alot of concerts and it was louder than they are .. very limited menu after 10 really nothing to eat that sounded appetizing had a few drinks then headed out
Excellent food and excellent selection of scotch
Always great service, even when busy, amazing drink specials and surprisingly affordable for Mass Ave. Plus they have Iron Bru - very cool for the Scottish feel.
Food menu is little limited with fairly high prices but it's a nice place. Good service. Good food.
Great whisky selection and delicious toffee Wee Mac ice cream!
Pasta was super bland, service was great
Nominated best haggis in Indy
Awesome restuarant. Great food reasonably priced. Definitely more American than Scottish, but you'd have to be... The haggis was as good as I ever had in Scotland! The fish and steak fries were decent. :) Please introduce americans to black pudding and cold pork pies with mustard!!!! Maybe even have a Sunday dinner special with roast beef, potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding! I was too full to try the bread and butter pudding sadly, but I will be back. :)
Loved my bartender ,Angela, she was awesome and courteous! I most definitely will be back to see her. It's always good times with good people. Thanks guys...
First time here. Love the atmosphere. Had scotch eggs and the sausage roll. Very good. Rolls were a bit greasy but still excellent!!
It's changed some over the years as the downtown landscape does. I miss the old, the new is good too. Great food, good service, great beverage selection.
Try the scotch egg they have a great 2 dine for 30 deal well worth it . Great staff kid friendly
It's a little expensive. The prices are a little misleading and the menu confusing. The food is really good though
Great atmoshere, authentic food and spirits
Great Scottish and U S. Foods. The choice of brews are fantastic, try The Bruce great STRONG beer great with all dishes.
Authentic Scottish food and a really nice bar with great selections. I strongly recommend coming here.
Nice place
Food very good, prices average, drinks and beer selection good, very crowded that evening, hard to hear when so crowded
Great atmosphere and even better Scotch eggs! Get some!
I love scotch. If your stomach is ever upset, drink scotch. I know it sounds crazy, but it works.
Very nice experience, food is great.
Incredible service! Kimmy took good care of my family and me - checked on us several times (but not too much!) as we sat and chatted for over an hour. She was very knowledgeable of the food and drinks on the menu and answered all of our questions. Food was hearty and tasty! Desserts were especially large and delicious!

Probably one of the best meals I have ever had! The haggis is out of this world! It's only 50 cents to sample, so do it! Scotch eggs for an appetizer - fantastic! Sunshine, our server, was amazing!
My favorite beer (Robert the Bruce), a burger so big you have to fold it twice, and the best ice cream flavor I’ve ever had (toffee and beer!)

Great place for dinner and drinks. Service was great as well. Our waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the menu.
Great beer and service!
Great beer selection. They typically have several local breweries on tap as well as a great bottle selection. The food is great. The Angus burger is a pounded flat and marinated in Worcestershire sauce delight. The Scotch egg is a tasty but not too healthy treat. I always love Belhaven Scottish ale and they have it on tap. Their veggie club has a nice kick to it and is actually one of the few vegetarian dishes I enjoy. But the beans and toast is a late night surprise that you will wonder why you didn't think of it first. Oh yeah, one other thing, their onion rings are the size of donuts. And you can bring in kids on the restaurant side.
One of my favorite places in town to go. Their Scotch Eggs are great, and so is just about everything that I've ever ordered. Love it. In the summer, they open the front of the building to Mass Ave.
I wasn't sure I would be a fan of the Scottish food, but it was delicious! Our drinks were refilled timely, food came out quick and hot, and the servers were quite nice. Probably not great for big groups on the weekend, but we had six on a Saturday and that seemed perfect!
Love the cask beer
Great place! Friendly staff and good food!
The bread pudding is AMAZING!!! It was huge (perfect for our table to split) and we all loved it. Good atmosphere and yummy food.
The food was awesome, and our service was fantastic. We will be coming back!
Little Scottish bar in a nice restaurant district of Indianapolis. Pretty decent scotch selection with a variety of different kinds. Good bar food and good food for dinner. Many dishes were vegetarian friendly. Vegetarian haggis was an interesting try.
Good drinks, great food, and even better service!
This was a BBQ brisket sandwich. Was. It was delicious. Good everything.
Great selection of scotches
There is nothing like a MacHattan (their take on a Roast Beef Manhattan) on a cold winter day. Great beer selection, really nice people work here, and an inviting comfortable atmosphere
While the food was pretty good, the Tennents Scottish Lager was incredible. Worth it just to get a pour. Very friendly staff.
Excellent food. Great atmosphere. Their scotch selection is huge. Highly recommend for a tasty evening out.
If you get a chance to take part in the devour Indy deal, two entrees appetizer and dessert for $30 you will be happy you did. The shrimp appetizer was exceptionally good and surprising. The bread pudding was magnificent but certainly enough to share among four people. Wait staff were courteous and engaging.
Great bar and atmosphere!
Cool pub. Great food. Casual and comfortable year around. It's a nice little spot. Also, they have all the whiskey.
Haggis was very good, loved the mashed neeps with it. Nice draft beers. Scottish eggs were very tasty.
If I lived within walking distance, I might live on their scotch eggs, haggis, burgers, and onion rings. Absolutely phenomenal food eclipsed only by the great, friendly staff
Excellent food and quaint Scottish pub atmosphere in the middle of Indianapolis. Quick lunch service, friendly staff
Beer is good. Service good. Location is great. Music was good. Food was good.
Food was great and Ellyn was a fun and efficient server.
Great experience. Service and food was very good.
Go there and start off with the Scotch eggs then any choice of the Manhattan, fish and chips, or Hagar's taters and nips. and remember to save room for the bread pudding
After flying all day, I ordered scotch eggs, the traditional haggis and a glass of scotch. It was all excellent. The scotch eggs especially. Great food. Waitress was on top of her table duties. Casual atmosphere, which can get loud at peak times. Worth it.
It has a pub feeling, but the dining area was rather loud. The (GIANT) onion rings were fantastic and filling. The mashed potatoes that came with the roast beef were delicious, but the sausage rolls were a bit bland and needed sauce.
This was another over-the-top Disney restaurant. The food was great. The entertainment was really good. The level of excitement in the place was wonderful.order the Irish specialty foods. They are really good.
Staff was great, food was great !
Very smart beer and Scotch offerings. Great food. Local vibe.
Awesome place, food and drinks, or great service as well. Make sure to save room for desert
Really great pub in an awesome location. Highly recommended.
Food was hearty and delicious! Portions were filling and drinks were unique.
It`s a bar. On Mass Ave. Server was friendly. Food was average. Clientele was LOUD. No reason to return. No reason to complain, there are just places nearby I like better.

Go to meet friends and drink. Great for that. Food was meh.
Food tourist? Bring your passport here. Try the haggis. It's available as an appetizer, so you can make it a group dare. It's delicious, by the way. Fast, courteous service in a very casual atmosphere (think pub more than restaurant). Simple menu with traditional flavors that all deserve a try. Also within walking distance of the Murat/Old National Center, so a great choice for dinner before a show!
Would have been 5 out of 5 but the beer chiller was broken when we went. Food was yummy although sometimes it was difficult to get the server's attention.
Try the icecream but add butterscotch topping...you can thank me now.
I ate here while in Indy for a conference when every restaurant in a Saturday had a 1.5-2 hr wait. This was the only place that could seat is quickly and it turned out to be amazing! The service was excellent and the food and drink were delicious. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in Indy again.
Ate here on the Saturday after Valentines Day at about 5pm. The atmosphere is nice and lively. Service was good and our waiter was friendly. The food was great. I had the French Dip and my husband had their Angus Burger (which is literally as big as the plate then you fold it to size). We split the bread pudding and it was AMAZING! Wait times can be long which is a downside, but the food is worth it!
Good food. Good beer. Service was excellent. Nice location on Mass Ave.
Nice mix of food (including vegetarian haggis). Staff was pleasant. Good drink selection. I've had better fish and chips. Had to request a clean-up in bathroom.
Good times with good friends. Great service.
Pretty basic Scottish Pub. My friend loves it here, so it's a frequent meet up spot.
Cozy atmosphere. Friendly and clean. The fish and chips weren't the best, but the Angus burger is as big as your face and the onion rings look like donuts. Will go back.
Apple pie was delicious everything else was processed food heated up
Loved it! Great experience . Friendly bartenders - Scotch eggs were wonderful & BelHaven was very cold.
Great food, and great service!
Good food, good prices, pretty fast on getting your food to you.
Great Mass Ave place to visit! Love the Scottish Eggs!! So yummy!
Staff is friendly and professional, food is excellent. My daughter loved the haggis.
Macniven's is a great example of a trendy Irish Pub. The food is excellent and a bit more diverse than similar places tend to be, with excellent vegetarian choices, fresh green salads topped with high quality meat and fish choices, cooked correctly to be tender and juicy, and even curry choices! My mother once told me she first experienced curry, not from an Indian restaurant but, in fact, from a group of Irishman that were her and my father's best friends when they first started dating! I had the chicken curry. It was mildly spicy and the chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked! Even at my favorite Thai and Indian restaurants, they tend to pay less attention to the chicken overcooking and drying out because the cooks know they are going to poor a heavy sauce over the meat. Not at Macniven's! The Scotch menu was also very good, not pages and pages long but the many diverse choices they had were all carefully picked and all excellent! For example, instead of having seven different Glenlivet to cover the entire line (and with a higher overhead cost), they carefully chose the best four of the line; the two most popular, one of the most expensive, and one that is less common (a special edition 14-year-old Glenlivet I hadn't seen in the past), so you could try something new from your favorite tried and true labels. Finally, the service: our server was excellent! It was only his second week and he knew how every dish was prepared and was honest about which of the Scotches he tried, liked, didn't like, or hadn't yet tried. Instead of simply saying that an $18 dollar shot was great (the amount most of the most expensive scotches were in the $18 per 2 ounces range), he would admit he hadn't yet tried it and would make a suggestion of a less-expensive scotch he really enjoyed! I very much appreciate a restaurant that insists on training their staff to be talented and knowledgeable instead of how to upsell sides!
Always good food, always great service.
Great food and atmosphere!
Love this place! Try the haggis!
This was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a while. Our server was so kind. We were debating between the vegetarian and regular haggis as an appetizer, so he brought us a sample of both. The food was all fantastic, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Highly recommend the bread pudding, as well!
Decent beer selection & menu items, but slow service. It was crowded, tho.
I should have definitely tried the beer on tap first. Not the greatest. But overall it was a pretty good experience. Absolutely love the atmosphere at the place though. Beautiful!
A cool little restaurant/bar on Mass Ave. The atmosphere really nice. The Scottish eggs are to die for. The hamburger is different being rolled flat with Worcestershire sauce. The onion rings are think and tasty. Over all a very nice lunch.
Great local place, amazing fish and chips, excellent atmosphere to watch sports, or have a nice dinner with family. It is loud, and it is child friendly. I however would not recommend bringing small children here, might be to noisy and theyight be a nuisance aka start crying.
We had the Vegetarian Curry, Clam chowder and Shrimp & Chips. Everything was excellent AND the owner brought the food out and told us a little about where he was from. Service was amazing. HIGHLY recommend
Great atmosphere... fun.. awesome service
Good Scottish vibe, good whisky collection, and they have Tennent's on tap!
Scotch eggs always on point! This is also where I tried Haggis for the first time. As long as you're ignorant about what it is, it's very tasty!
Awesome food. Generous portions for the price. We had the chicken and tuna salad sandwiches. Yummy!!!! Onion rings excellent. Ruby was our server. She is the server you want.
Oh man! That bread pudding!!! Yummmmm
Very welcoming environment. Delicious food and good drinks to pair.
They think the beer is made with gold. Very pricey for what it is. I like the bar but it attracts a trendy mass ave Crowd. Nice place to go and eat for something a little different. But not worth it all the time.
My favorite pub on mass ave. Gotta stop by, it's a classic.
Terrible food and service. Won't be back.
On our way back from a guys week in Nashville we stopped here. The food was great and the waitress was one of the nicest down to earth people I've ever met. Indy's lucky to have such a place.
Do yourself a favor and eat here. It's excellent and you can thank me later. The scotch eggs are the best around.
Pretty good Scottish food in the U.S. Will go back for sure next time we are in Indy. The service was good and food came out super fast. You get a whole lot of food for you money! Glad we found this place!
Pleasant venue for a meeting. Beer collection is tasty. Attentive waiters. TV screens covers day's popular sports events. From the client base one can see it is a popular venue.
I really like this bar. It has good food especially the Scotch Eggs. Sausage wrapped hard boiled eggs that are deep fried. They have a good tap beer selection, others in bottles and cans, and a full bar. They have roll up windows and doors that are right next to the side walk on Mass Ave, somon nice days you can sit and people watch as you drink your pint and share some Scotch Eggs with your mates.
The Scotch Eggs were very very very good. It's unfortunate they were the highlight of the meal. The sausage rolls were standard, at best. The Steak Pie had a wonderfully flaky pastry on top of what could be described as beef stew from a can. While the food was ok, it was not what we were hoping for.
Excellent food and atmosphere! My wife and I had an awesome time! We will definitely be back!
They have the best scotch eggs ive found in indiana!
Great place for food and drinks

Love this place! Try the haggis!
This was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a while. Our server was so kind. We were debating between the vegetarian and regular haggis as an appetizer, so he brought us a sample of both. The food was all fantastic, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Highly recommend the bread pudding, as well!
Decent beer selection & menu items, but slow service. It was crowded, tho.
Excellent food and atmosphere! My wife and I had an awesome time! We will definitely be back!
They have the best scotch eggs ive found in indiana!
Great place for food and drinks
Haggis Neats and Tates!! Beer selection is good too!
Can't wait to go back!! The food was excellent, but we would always ask for Ellyn! She is fabulous and we wouldn't have had nearly as good a time without her. What a gem!
I love this place. The food is good along with the selection of beer.
Great we love Lindsay our service was amazing!
Love this place! Great food, great beer selections. Servers are always the best. Can't say enough good things about this place!!
Great spot. Lots of locals so you know it's good.
We arrived around 4 PM for a late lunch/happy hour. Service was a little slow, but it ended up being shift change. Food was okay.
One of our go-tos. Excellent beer list and good pub food.
Wonderful service. Huge portions. Delicious food!
Very expensive for drinks but the food is out of this world. Get the fried shrimp!
Great service - food isn't my favorite. The fish and onion rings are always soggy- must be frozen.
Great food and beer selection
Always quality food! Great service.
Great family environment, we always take our family of 6 there for a great meal and a great environment. Kid friendly.
Went here for dinner with friends and family. Service was awesome and efficient! Food was delicious and plentiful. Prices were not out of line for the portion! Ahhhhhh, the beer.......it was frosty, with many choices. If you can't find a beer you like here well, shame on you! Great views, especially if you like to "people watch". The menu has something for everybody- American standards and Scottish favorites. Bottom line: you will not be disappointed that you stopped in!!
My girlfriend and I tried this place as an early Valentine's date. Really impressed with the number of vegetarian offerings on the menu, list of beers (local and imported), and healthy portions. The fish and chips were delicious and the veggie chili was a nice change of pace. We will definitely be back in the near future.
I stopped in for a beverage on my first visit. I love the atmosphere here. I'm sure once I try the food my rating will increase.
Great beer and whiskey selection!
Great wait staff...great food! I suggest the grilled chicken bap and potato skins..and be ready to eat because the portions are healthy!
We celebrated our completed move by finding this gem of a restaurant/pub on Mass Ave. We highly recommend it.
This place is awesome food is out of this world
Very welcoming pub.
Hidden and underappreciated gem on Nass Ave. Good beer, fish & chips, bread pudding, sausage roll, and of course, Scotch Eggs! Family friendly or sit on the bar side. Perfect little pub
Great bar with great service. Had the veggie chili and it was pretty tasty. The bread was really good. The place is clean and offers indoor or outdoor seating. The menu had something for everyone. Irish food is the theme and everyone I spoke with loved the lamb stew and Shepard's pie.
Sunshine was great waitress. She asked what we wanted before we asked. The food was good. It is worth the trip.
Price reasonable. Friendly service. Had the Fish n Chips... best tartar sauce! Son ordered onion rings with angus burger. Two huge onion rings bigger than hamburger bun!
Staff is always friendly and kind on bar or family side, always CLEAN, and great beer variety (I’m especially happy they usually always have Gumball Head on draft) ! One of my favorite places in the city!
The food is really good here. The scotch egg was great. The beer cheddar was great. I ordered the steak pie which was pretty good, but my friend ordered the fish and chips and that was great. I would love to go back here and eat again.
Great atmosphere here with solid menu of selections. I enjoy the Angus burger, a flattened steak-burger that you have to fold twice to fit on the bun. Amazing, huge onion rings (you only get two but they're plenty big) and great bread-pudding. Prices are modest, making this an ideal spot for a lunch or dinner.
Great food for a reasonable price!
Loved the vegetarian haggis!
A fun and vibrant pub with traditional Scottish eats and beer.
This was amazing food and awesome service! Highlights for us was the haggis, scotch eggs, onion soup and BREAD PUDDING! Do not skip the bread pudding!
Friendly service and good food and drink!
The egg appetizer is way better than it sounds
Best Scottish pub in Indy. Bread pudding is amazing! Awesome selection of local and craft beers. Lovely selection of whiskey. Great service, great staff. If our server didn't know about a certain Scotch, she asked the bartender.
We've been to MacNiven's twice now and had a great experience both times. Their haggis is actually really good and we loved trying all the Scottish dishes. Their beer and whiskey list was excellent as well.
We went after a race and the food was fantastic. The service was super friendly with good recommendations. Can't wait to go back.
Great laid back location. The wait staff was friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive.
Came to watch the Women’s soccer game final. And we ate lunch here. Our waiter was very entertaining and nice. The food was amazing. It’s perfect if you want to watch TV. I would recommend
I love that this place has a wide selection of Scottish Ales. Most places have one if that. Also, their scotch selection is the best I've seen

Really really really good food. I've heard lots of people say haggis is disgusting but it's delicious here (and for 50¢ you can get a tiny cup to try it before you order the full meal of it) and their scotch eggs are absolutely to die for. Super friendly and helpful staff, a friend tried ordering a cocktail and ended up really not liking what she ordered, they made her something else and were very nice about doing it, didn't charge her for the one she didn't like. If the weather is nice the bar facing the street is really nice to sit at and people watch while you eat, and the waiters will come outside to take your order/deliver food so that you aren't awkwardly looking and reaching behind you to see them. Prices are in the $15-25 range for most meals. All in all a great place!
Great we love Lindsay our service was amazing!
