Its always a good experience when you have good food and good service

I was beyond excited for my 1st opportunity to dine at Harry& Izzy's. It was a 2 week pre-planned business dinner on the NE side of Indy. I will give an A+ to the staff, the ambiance and beverage selection. Why 2 stars? I ordered the 14oz ribeye and enhanced it by adding Izzy Style to it. The steak was disappointing, brandy is typically sweet, the sauce was sour? The steak was also fatty, not marbled, but hunks of fat were "hidden?" under the pepper encrusting. Saddened by the disappointment.

We loved the entire experience of dinning here! We had a group of 8 and were celebrating my husband's birthday. The service was exceptional and all of our meals were perfectly prepared and delicious. My Filet Mignon was the best I've ever had!

My friend brought me here for my birthday and oh my God was it all good! I started out with the bourbon and coke cocktail with cherries and vanilla. I simple twist on a classic that really elevated and made it awesome. We then had the famous shrimp cocktail and I loved it. There was so much horseradish in the sauce my nose would burn with every bite which I like in a cocktail. If you like a more mild sauce it may not be for you but they provide bread and crackers to help if the pain and spice is too much. After that we got ribeye steaks which were cooked perfectly and three sides to taste and share(Mac and cheese, bacon brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes). Again it was all amazing. Then for dessert... Oh man dessert. Everyone who goes here should definitely save room for the bread pudding. I am very picky about my bread pudding and this was amazing. And they drizzle Woodford bourbon on top! The service was also amazing. Charismatic staff, the whole staff! Wait staff, expos, bussers, and management were all friendly and welcoming! And the restaurant was gorgeous, so elegant but not stuffy. The right amount of class without making me feel underdressed in a simple blouse and jeans. This place is pricey, I won't lie. But it was worth every penny.

First time here with my husband for a new experience. Serves was trash . The waitress filled this young man's water 4x in front of me and failed everytime to fill mine. I even moved the pitcher close to my glass. And she looked at me, looked at the glass and kept walking. The mojito that I ordered was horrible. Had so much cut up strawberry and mint in the cup till I couldnt drink through the straw. My husband's steak didn't have any flavor. And when she brought us the bill. she put the ticket on the table instead of putting it in a black book like she did everyone else. I looked through the reviews and the owner is only responding to positive reviews. The owner is not concerned with the negative to see what they are doing wrong and what they need help in.

My husband and I visited for the first time last night. We were very pleased with our meals and our server. The filet mignon and seared ahi tuna were fantastic. The atmosphere would have been better if we'd been in a booth. The tables are for four people and we were a bit far apart from each other, especially with the noise/volume in the restaurant and it wasn't incredibly busy on a Sunday evening. During very busy days and hours, I imagine it would be quite hard to converse without shouting while seated across from each other at a table. We had to talk much louder than usual to hear each other. The booths are quite a bit less expansive and would be better for a couple. We didn't complain or I'm positive they would have moved us. Everyone we spoke to was very professional and nice. All in all, we had a delicious meal and the atmosphere is nice except for the noise of the conversations since it's an open room.

After eating our food the couple at the table next to us inform us that the manager gave them our food first and she took it back long enough to turn around and walk right back out with the same food giving it to us. I told our waiter of the incident which he wasn’t aware or involved as it was the manager that did it all. He said that he would get the manager. He came back out and confirmed it was the same food but on a new plate. Once the manager came out she told us it was different food and the waiter was wrong. She said that was end of story and nothing was removed from out bill. So I believed her and was ready to leave when my waiter came back out and asked if everything had been taken care of by the manager. Once we told him what happened he became very frustrated and said this wasn’t right. He took our bill and said it would be taken care of and that the manager would be back out a second time. We even had the other tables waiter come up to us and say it was the same food. 15 minutes later she returned and said “I know you got a customer in your ear telling you it was the same food, but it wasn’t and that the other waiters were wrong.” She said made it clear that she didn’t want to discount our bill but she had to. They removed the food from the bill but left the drinks. Normally I would be happy with this result but the fact the manager came out and lied twice makes me never to want to go back. It was even confirmed from the cooks that they did recook the food. I would like to thank the waiters for doing the right thing and being honest.

An Indianapolis institution. This is all the northwest side. Valet parking is available. Same great service you would expect. Same great food you would expect. The only reason I don't give Harry and Izzy's five stars is the lack of creativity and any sort of evolution of the menu Don't get me wrong, everything is well-executed and delicious. the challenge is that after you've been to Harry and Izzy's, then you don't need to go back for a while until you want some of the same. It's all great but just not a different experience from time to time.

Seriously disappointing lunch experience. The clam chowder soup de jour was terrible and we paid $70 for a ribeye that had no flavor and was certainly not worth the price (nor did the waiter mention the high price). The atmosphere is nice and the service was fine but wouldn’t go back.

Hey, are you looking for some good steak and good liquor? Then grab stool at the bar here. I started with an Old Fashion while made meal decision. Now this isn't a hand muddled artisan drink, but it was good. Not too sweet, not too boozy, just right. So I initially ordered the NY Strip Izzy's Way, but my bartender said it way overpowered the meat. And said "If your going to order one of out steaks and pay this much you want to taste it." So I went old school medium rare. Great steak. Really good cut of meat. Just enough seasoning seared in. And the mashed potatoes are a perfect side for it. After dinner to prepare for the walk back toy hotel I got a refreshing Tom Collins. The Lemony Gin Drink was the perfect cap to this warm summer evening and a walk back through downtown. It's pricey, but worth it.

This place is fantastic! Service was very fast and thorough, and glasses never went empty. The French onion soup was really great with a thick layer of cheese and bread on top of some very flavorful broth with caramelized onions. (I had already started in before I remembered to snap a pic) My Hubby’s burger was, in his words, “in the top 10” of all the burgers, and it wasn’t fancy, just very flavorful and well made. Club sandwich was piled high and “garbage salad” was delicious and not at all garbage like. We had heard about the bread pudding for desert and decided to split one, good thing since it was HUGE! Very delicious also! Wonderful meal!

Love the sliders here. Although they are a bit pricey ($5.50 for one) they are delicious! I got the chicken and shrimp and the chicken was my favorite with the sauce the put on it. Two sliders and a side was enough for lunch time. The shrimp cocktail is the same as St. Elmo's (sister restaurants) and definitely be prepared for hotness. Old-timey vintage decor inside that's neat too.

Relaxed but upscale. You can tell this is a place for a special occasion, or even if you just want a really nice steak, there's no discrimination. My personal favorite restaurant for steak. The New York strip is perfectly cooked, although I was not the biggest fan of the pepper crusted "Izzy" style. Obviously price tag will be high but that is to be expected when you visit a fine establishment such as Harry and Izzy's.

One of my favorite places to sit at the bar to eat. The wait staff is fantastic. Whomever does the training / hiring should write a how-to book. We always leave feeling happy. I'm quite sure the steaks and chops are just as good as they are at St. Elmo, but my wife and I have developed a habit of only ordering appetizers and such at Harry & Izzy's. The place was jam-packed during our most recent visit due to downtown events, but the service did not suffer. Very hard-working and friendly staff. Do not miss a chance to sample the prime rib pizza.

Dry aged rib eyes very tender, crispy and tasty! This is probably the best rib eye stake in Indy. Make sure it cooked mid- rare. Lunch burger is also sooo delicious also looked mid-rare!!

An experience in multiple ways. In Europe, you are not used to such a service and I am rather skeptical about the over-friendly "Yes Sir" - but we are in America. Anyway, the service was great. The shrimp cocktail was a spicy matter - nice that I tried it. The steak was the next "big" surprise. I did not expect such a portion - the next time I translate ounces in grams ;) before. Great resto, great service, basic kitchen.

I almost never give five-stars. Hometown favorite! Sister company to the St Elmo's non-chain institution. Recommend the shrimp cocktail!! - a must, if you can take the horse-radish super heat. The brussel sprouts are pretty good if you like sweet. Be sure to get the "dry-aged" new york strip and don't bother with any enhancements. If you don't do the dry-aged then be sure to do the crab/asparagus/bernaise enhancement! As for the wine...forget the highest end stuff and just do the Canvasbacked Duckhorn Cab for $75. Have it decanted and you are all set!! Promise!

If you have food allergies, this is not the place for you. They struggled to get my order right without dairy and eventually just brought out a hunk of meat without sauce or flavor. Also, the waiter and the manager were not communicating with each other and they kept coming back and asking the same questions. It was a little embarrassing, especially for someone like myself who has never sent back a dish at a restaurant. I have been to many restaurants where it was no problem for them to substitute some sort of oil instead of dairy and still have a spectacular meal. This restaurant had not mastered that. On the other hand my husband said his meal was fantastic, and it did look really good. In the end, I probably won't be going back.

Dinner ranges in price from $15 to $80 apiece. I ordered the prime rib pizza for $18. Very good price for the quality and quantity. Very highly recommended.

What an amazing time at Harry and Izzy's. From the presentation of their gin and tonics ( gin on the rocks with a small bottle of tonic served alongside for your perfect mixing) to the handmade crust on the key lime pie for dessert ( unkept and flaky), we had a wonderful time. My mother-in-law and I shared a wedge to start ( for some reason the only picture I took). A great start alongside the famous shrimp cocktail. I enjoyed the scallops and she and my husband each had a perfectly aged, perfectly cooked steak with extra creamy and buttery mash potatoes. For dessert we shared a key lime pie and cream brulee. Five stars to a wonderful time and wonderful meal.

This is a classy joint that feels like home. The service is exceptional. Everyone is truly focused on customer service. Our bartender even added slivers of jalapeño to the blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini. The food is exceptional, and of course don’t miss the epic shrimp cocktail. Not for the faint of heart strong horseradish flavor.

Truly disappointed that all the things we wanted on the menu were sold out because they were busy. I don't want to hear excuses when I go to a restaurant that's supposed to have great food and service. They did comp, part of our meal but will never go back there again. Our server, Andrea, was on top of everything, very helpful and attentive. Too expensive for every day, but if you want a nice night out, absolutely check this place out. We were up on the balcony and had a really cool view of the restaurant. Great atmosphere. The closest thing I I have to a complaint is that I was too full to try dessesrt!

Our server Eliza was phenomenal and the overall service here was 5 star. The magic is in the details and they’ve thought through all that goes into fine dining. The food was delicious and incredibly filling. The cocktails were creative and well made. I also highly recommend the bread pudding for dessert- it was a delectable portion of bourbon bread pudding with a mountain of caramel ice cream and whip cream.

Went to this place for the first time yesterday and was blown away with how bad the service was. 1. They didn't give us any ice in our water, it was room temperature and tasted horrible. 2. One of our meals was not done correctly, they forgot a topping. 3. We were not offered refills on water or any drink for the course of the entire meal. 4. Our server only checked in on us one time after our meals were delivered even though all the drinks at our table were empty. We had to call her over because she would walk right by us over and over like we were invisible. 5. Our server brought us the wrong check at the end of our meal, for a more expensive order.

In my time living in Indianapolis, I've come to learn that Harry & Izzy's is an institution of the city. Eventually I had to try it for myself. As the servers will tell you, they're a sister to St. Elmo's and have the same high quality and expensive beef offerings. The menu has a wide price range from the $20s to $80s, which makes for an interesting range of customers. Some folks come dressed really casually. Some people will be more dressed up. Regardless, we tried the famously spicy shrimp cocktail, and I had lamb and the bread pudding. All were delicious! Portions are generous considering the price, and I ended up taking food home. It's a definite must try for a special occasion in Indy.

Got two sliders one was the shrimp po boy which was the saving grace, very good. The other was the fillet...I asked for medium rare and it was touching on raw and it had a giant tendon running through the middle making it pretty much inedible. The french onion soup was all cheese which I love love cheese but I didn't order a bowl of hot cheese I wanted the actual soup. Save your money go someplace that isn't as full of itself

Classy, elegant, but not overly formal dining in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. We actually prefer it to the more famous predecessor, St. Elmo's. My wife and I went for lunch and had the four course lunch. The steak sliders were absolutely the best. It was so good, we returned later for dinner and a cocktail. Our faith was rewarded by fantastic tomato and mozzarella, and the smoked salmon. The old fashioned was also one of the best I've ever had. (Yes, we also had the "clear your sinuses" shrimp cocktail, which has been amply reviewed elsewhere.)

Great atmosphere. Complimentary valet parking and walk-ins welcome however I recommend making a reservation. In town for a soccer tournament and wanted a nice meal. One of the few restaurants that are at this level with a children's menu. Whatever you order is going to be fabulous they have st. Elmo's shrimp cocktail and I recommend the Gorgonzola butter topper for any steak. A fabulous wine list and desserts that would make you feel like you're in a gourmet Bakery. We are very happy with our choice and may even eat here again after our games are finished on Saturday.

This was my first visit because of Devour Indy. We ordered off the Devour Indy menu. I had the St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail, filet Mignon, and cheesecake. I also ordered the Brussels sprouts with bacon. The steak was the best I have eaten in a long while. The Brussels sprouts were excellent. Tre was our server and I recommend him. I will go back and make sure he is my waiter. The manager stopped by yo make sure we were ok and if we needed anything. Tre made excellent suggestions. He brought a sample of a beer to try before we ordered to make sure we liked it. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Rarely do you get great service and great food and feel you get a great value. I got all 3 from Harry and Izzy’s.

I had the pleasure of enjoying St Elmo on the same trip for my birthday while in town for work and it was amazing. That made choosing Harry and Izzy's a no brainer being it was around the corner from my hotel. However the smoked pork chops came out far charred and overcooked. Somewhat disappointing as they sound absolutely delicious and a staff favorite. Didn't want to offend the recommendation but never was checked on by a manager and opted to throw in the towel 1/3rd through. Nearly $100 later was left with a burnt taste in my mouth.

60day dry aged ribeye is the best steak I've had in my life! Always felt St. Elmos was overrated, until this. GAME CHANGER! Try it, and you won't be disappointed. No need to battle getting downtown for St. Elmo's. I do not recommend the fried green tomatoes, although it's a unique menu item, you're essentially at St. Elmos...and it's just fried food. I wasn't impressed; there are better apps. Btw, they DO offer Caymus by the glass! Cheers!

Loved it! Not only did they have a great steak, but the pan-seared scallops were awesome too!!! Don't forget to order the world famous St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail!!! I really don't like shrimp cocktail, but I enjoy it everytime I'm here! Just don't take a massive bite, because the horseradish is very strong and immediately clears your sinuses!!! The server was extremely busy, but still very attentive and spent time with us when she was at our table. Don't have reservations? Be prepared to wait, but it will be worth it! Have some drinks at the bar. The bar tenders are great and super nice!

Everything you'd expect from a 5 star! Relaxed atmosphere with great music, our servers were intuitive and attentive, the meal was phenomenal... perfectly cooked and seasoned! Our first time there, but will not be our last!

Pros Great environment, great staff, great food. Cons I ordered a bone in fillet medium first cut wasn’t horrible close to medium the rest of the way was almost rare took forever to try to get it fixed it wasn’t but the manager made me feel uncomfortable so I just said it was fine because while I was waiting I ate almost half of my wife’s steak she got the regular fillet. It was terrific! Just order the fillet the bone in was fatter and was unable to be cooked over rare.

Went for sons birthday. Not all that keen on the service we received. Didn’t feel as if we were attended to at all. Fortunately, we were there for a celebration, show it wasn’t too noticeable at the time.

This place is amazing. The fried green tomatoes were great and some of the best I've had. I got the prime rib sandwich which was great and my friend got the pepper crusted steak which was great but probably would have be better without the sauce. The mashed potatoes here are insanely good. The creme brulee was very good as well. This place is a must if you are near it.

I heard of their infamous Saint Elmo's shrimp cocktail. So I had to try it. It was everything I hoped it would be. Crazy fresh ground horseradish as you can see in the picture. You can't have a sinus infection if you don't have sinuses. But seriously, it was outstanding. The old fashioned was good too. I definitely plan to go back and try some entrees!

Let's start with the good. Great ambience, waiters and hosts are adequately polite. Now, to the negatives. Overpriced for the quality of food we received. Food variety is poor. They announce themselves as "Steak and Seafood" and there's only about 3 different steaks and their seafood is limited. I have had better steaks at a way cheaper price. Not only better in quality, but also in the way they are cooked. My husband ordered his steak medium and came out medium well with some parts well done (he's not the kind to turn steaks back tho). My steak was just fine. But not good enough for me to say it was worth its price. Steaks comes with your choice of fries, that's good...when the fries don't seem old or re-fried. We have spent the same or more amount of money on food and we rarely regret our decision. This time, we are regretting it. The experience and the food were not worth the price at all.

We had excellent service. The kitchen was able to accommodate a lunch salad at dinner for me. The drinks were well mixed, not too sweet. Food came out swiftly, everything was correct, delicious, and perfect. There was an issue with our gift cards but they worked diligently to resolve it. Get the coffee, large glass, and mix it with the vanilla bean ice cream. You won't be sorry!
