This place is legit! I’ve been to the local mom and pop places in Germany, and took a step back to those great times without leaving good ole’ French Lick Indiana. The homemade noodles were my absolute favorite! They’re to die for. Everything we ate was homemade and delish! Will definitely be back next time in town!! Also wanted to give a shout-out to the owners and staff. Dara our waitress was amazing! Outstanding job all! Make sure you come hungry, and aren’t in a rush as everything is made to order.

Very friendly and helpful staff . Good food , great sauerkraut and fun atmosphere. At around $17 to $20 per person plus drinks . It's a fun night out. One thing though.. no bread with your meal .

There's a sad lack of German restaurants around southern Indiana, but this place is great. The side portions are a bit small, but the entree and beer sizes make up for it. Plus, it's all delicious. If you're in this part of Indiana, come here instead of the Schnitzelbank in Jasper. Come see what flavorful German food actually tastes like.

Found this little German gem in French Lick and enjoyed the bouquet of flavors and Bavarian decor you can visually explore while waiting for your food. Service was attentive. Will be back when traveling through!

This restaurant had a nice look to it from the outside, but the waiting service inside was very rude! Multiple times our waitress was very rude and talked over us when we were trying to express that the food is horrible and with very much sodium. The food was poorly cooked and overall it was just a terrible experience. At the end when it was time to pay the bill, it ended up being around 90 dollars. We left a tip for the waitress, but she complained that it wasn’t enough. She followed us to our car and asked why she didn’t get a higher tip. She demanded a higher tip! The whole situation was ridiculous and we are certainly never going back there. Despite rumored opinion, the German Cafe Restaurant does not have the best food in Orange County, Indiana.

Everything we ordered was delicious...so much food in an order. I found the server to be delightful and helpful. Closest German fare in authenticity to my German mother and grandmothers cooking! The atmosphere was especially nice and the decor was just right. We will be back again!

Horrible horrible service!!! Burnt food, waitress never even came back to say anything! Then we waited 19 minutes to get the bill! My husband stood up like to leave to get any attention! Food was less than mediocre and service was the worst I’ve ever had!

Great food at good prices. The sample platter for two is huge. It literally could feed four. I wanted to go less than 5 stars for the limited beer selection. But, 4.9 was not an option. I've read the negative reviews and timed activities. In short, no wait and we arrived early. Our drinks and appetizer were on the table within 8 minutes. Our order was on the table within 20 minutes. Great job!

We have ate there many years ago and decided to visit them again. We knowticed that the place looked closed at 8:30... kinda confusing for a restaurant so they had no hours of operating on the outside. We walked in to inquire about the hours. The young lady behind the counter said sorry we are closed. We inquired again about the hours then she looked angry and just walk into the back. A older lady walks out and says sorry we are closed with a bad attitude. We inquired again about their hours and she looked really angry and finally explained their hours of operating. I found it odd that the complexity of their business hours were not posted and their disgust for the customer when the front lights were on and the door was open was disgraceful to anyone who runs a establishment ment to serve the community.

An ok place but I can say, been there done that. A new experience. The front dining room I did not care for. The other sections were more private and quaint. The front door would not close all the way. The potato “patties” just seemed like some from a bag of frozen patties. Kind of like McDonald’s hash browns but not as tasty. I have no desire to return. The pork roast was nice and tender. Potato salad was strange. Not really like a potato salad at all. It has a very sweet sauce. Not the best place to go if you want low carb. That being said, the dessert was good.

Our waitress was fantastic! The food was very good. My cousin was stationed in Germany when she was in the service. She said it was very close to what she remembers from being there. And the carrot cake was amazing!!!

Food was so good. We ordered family style, way more than the four of us could eat. Prices reasonable. I think they have every kind of German beer known to mankind there. Only domestic is Budweiser. The restaurant is so cozy almost like being in someone's home.

The giant pretzel app is about as big as Donald Trump's ego. Definitely a must try. The paprika beef tips were tender although the sauce is heavy on paprika, not my taste ( they did warn me though). We ordered both of their daily specials and they were fabulous. If we ever make it back ordering the special would probably be my first choice and recommendation.

The food was great, the atmosphere was authentic. Best German food I have had since being in Germany a few months ago. I am half German- mom was German- so I grew up on German food and this was excellent. We ordered the grosse platte for 6 but there was enough for 7 or 8! The waitress was dressed in traditional Bavarian garb and was very helpful and friendly. My only complaint was they served my Wiessen Bier in a mug instead of a glass

We stopped in for lunch and had a schnitzel with mushroom gravy, potato patties, slaw, and German potato salad. Excellent! Couldn't eat it all, so we boxed up leftovers and shared a piece of Black Forest cake for dessert. More excellence! The next time, and there will definitely be a next time as we are only an hour away, want to try the noodles. Loved how the restaurant was decorated in Bavarian style, and plenty of room. We were told the owners are German. Loved it!

The food was okay and the service wasn't any better. My husband and I were the only ones in the restaurant and my husband had to get up and find our waitress just to get a drink refill. When I asked to pay our waitress rolled her eyes so when we visit in the future we wont return here.

If I could bring everyone I know here to eat, I would. My husband loved the ungarisch goulasch. I will be asking my mother in law for her recipe based upon his happiness with this meal. He enjoyed the kartoffelsalat as well. I ordered the Munich sausages and kartoffelpuff. I enjoyed the sausages very much. I highly recommend them. I enjoyed a Heffe bier with my food. We finished with a slice of carrot cake. It was delicious! Perfect moisture and great finish to a delicious meal!

Don't miss the Cafe if your in French Lick. Delicious, terrific deserts served in a quiant German atmosphere. Highly recommend you stop on for a authentic German meal. Price's aren't just reasonable they are cheap.

This quaint little restaurant was a fun experience for our family. We shared the family platter and also tasted the giant pretzel and a few desserts. Everything was wonderful and they easily accomadated our group of 14.

My husband and I had never really had authentic German food before, so we ordered the platter. It was a little expensive ($36 for 2 people), but we loved it. Everything tasted wonderful. The atmosphere was comfortable and family-friendly, and the service was excellent! We would definitely recommend the German Cafe if you're in French Lick!

It's a bar primarily that serves German food locally owned in a consignment shop. Food wasn't bad but I was there in an off day so service was hesitant to get to me luckily the owners daughter took our order. Stroganoff was delicious and the tenderloin was edible but my wife wasn't bragging about it. She really wanted to go as she felt uncomfortable not knowing where to sit.

If you are looking for a delicious, authentic, german home cooked meal that is affordable, this is the place. The decor reminds me of going to grandparents for Sunday dinner. I've dined here several times with friends and family and have never been disappointed.

Great atmosphere to meet friends or family for dinner. If the breaded tenderloin is the special I always go for that and have never been disappointed. Otherwise I get any other tenderloin dish off the menu. Also don't forget to enjoy a good quality German beer, there is a great selection available.

Great food. VERY slow service on the night we were there. Server told us they had 2 servers call in that night. Many tables near us(and our table) had to wait 15-20 minutes before we could even order drinks. Then another 10-15 minutes to get our drinks. Food was great though.

Quaint decor with authentic German food. The place is small and pretty dated. Not a lot of privacy to have a conversation. Front door doesn't close and produces a draft if you sit in front room when it's cold outside. Good selection of German beers and a lot of recognizable German dishes. Acceptable experience if you really like German cuisine and atmosphere. Once was enough for me to say I tried it.

Excellent food, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. I felt like I was eating dinner in a German grandma's dining room! We ordered the platter for three (we were 2 adults and a 13 year old), served family style. Basically it offers a selection of most of the main and side dishes. TONS of food! My favorite was the goulash. Son liked the schnitzel with mushroom sauce (can't remember the actual German name). We don't often have German food so had to ask lots of questions. Everyone was so nice and helpful.

First impressions weren’t great, but the food was good. I looked through the reviews and saw some nasty responses to negative reviews by the owner. Other than that the only other complaints we had were: - The decor reminded us more of an antique mall than Germany. - The bill wasn’t accurate (we were charged $9.50 for each drink) - The dish I was given wasn’t entirely clean and there was a small hair in the food when it came out. ** Not THAT big of a deal, it happens at home occasionally, but not expected from a restaurant. ** Positives were: - Friendly and attentive waitress - Good tasting food - Good portion ($36 meal for two) - Quick service. All in all it felt like I just had a meal at my great great grandmother’s house.

The food was tasty but the service not so much. It took over 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and take our drink and food order. The food came in a timely but we asked for a plate it took almost another 5 minutes for the Plate to be delivered. Once we received the check, we waited another 10 minutes and the waitress didn’t return for payment so I put enough cash on the table to pay the bill and a very small tip and walked out.

Nice restaurant in a nice town. Menu is mostly German food with Schnitzels of many varieties. Amber, our waitress, handled our large group with ease. The German beer were good and served cold with a nice presentation.

Great German Food! The schnitzel/breaded tenderloin was excellent with just right breading, thickness of meat and cooked to the correct doneness. Sauce reminded me of meals in Bavaria. Fries were made on site and done to a perfect crispness. Definitely worth a return trip in the fall after busy summer season.

I have been here 2 tines food has been very good. I made a reservation and they sat us. We sat for 25 min before a waitress came to the table. She never apologized and was very rude. We ordered I asked waitress to put our order in before a large crowd that had just sat down. Of course they got their food before us. This is the first time I have never left a tip.

I've run restaurants all over the country, including the Ritz Carlton in a Naples, San Francisco, and F&B at multiple high end resorts. I'm a restaurateur in Louisville currently. This place is great, give em a try!

When we were sat we were told that they were shortstaffed and that we would have to wait. We did not have a reservation so we expected to wait at least a small amount of time. However after 30 minutes of sitting at our table and not being acknowledged by anyone else with the restaurant, we walked out. It is one thing to communicate a wait or a shortstaffed situation, however to not be spoken to at all while sitting at a table for half an hour is inexcusable.

This place is pretty awesome for authentic German food. The grosse sampler for 2 or you can get it for 4,6,8 12 if you like is quite good. There is a large amount of food for the price. Nice atmosphere and several great beers on tap as well as my favorite, Dopplebach. Dont forget to try the HUGE Bavarian pretzel while there.
