I did carry-out and the wait was a bit too long. Mongolian beef bland and only onions and beef. 75% onions but the beef was tender. Soup was great., Egg rolls like mashed potatoes, very little taste. Fried rice bland. Bottom line is .... Why bother going again.

The very best and most authentic Chinese food in Munster/Hammond Indiana. Fantastic service and an excellent value.order off the authentic Chinese menu for a special treat. The salt and pepper shrimp in the shell is amazing!! Ask for the traditional Chinese menu and order the MooShu pork. The best anywhere.

I love Chinese food. I've eaten at quite a few restaurants in my time. I love Chinatown. Won Kow to be exact. But If i want a local nwi place, that is just as good. I would choose Fortune House. Get their Beef and Tomato entree. You won't be sorry. Their egg rolls are fantastic as well.

Traditional chinese food with large portions. A little pricey, but worth the money in my opinion. Something I found very nice is that hot tea is automatically served with the drinks. The environment and dinnerware is appealing. I liked the experience at least, if not more than, the food.

If y’all in NW Indiana think this is good- you don’t know what good “Chinese” food is. If you like soupy food on rice- this is the place for you. If you like an entry into the building to smell like an ashtray? This is your place. If you like low quality dishes with low quality meat- man, this is it. Everybody do yourself a favor- go to the restaurant in Beecher, IL and taste what real food tastes like. It’s worth it.

Recently started going here. I usually order spice orange chicken with shrimp fried rice which is pretty good. My only complaint is how they bag the food. They tend to over fill the paper bag and as food the food packaging, it’s pretty oily..

I have never been to this place and now i know why.i read the first 5 reviews or so and all were good. I ordered food and everything tasted like nasty s**t. From the white rice to combo fried rice Mongolian beef and orange chicken. All tasted horrible and looked even worse. Please do not go here you will be wasting your money. Looks like china house keeps my business.

I love this place! Prices are always reasonable, but lunch is dirt cheap- a good meal for two for 13 bucks or so, with tax. The food is great. Take out is a good option, but if you''re dining in, one guy does most of the waiting of tables, and he's quite charming.

Great place for lunch. Service is fast and friendly, portions seem perfect and the price is awesome. You can fill up and get out for about the same as a burger and fries, but feel less bloated and greasy.

We have been going to this Chinese restaurant for the last 10 years. We have yet to find a place that matches it's charms and how delicious its food is. Even the fancy restaurants in Chinatown do not match this place. This is a great choice for anyone in the area to try out.

Picked up an order for my daughter's birthday and was very disappointed. Mongolian beef was 75% onions and was in so much juice with very little meat. Egg rolls were tough and very little flavor. Will not be ordering here again.

If I could give a lower rate I would. My sister went there because it WAS my favorite restaurant for years and I gave her good reviews. But when she went, her children received a beef dish with rotten meat. When she complained to management they were very rude and ignored her. They proceeded to humiliate her by saying " nobody has complained but you, you just want to complain". She left and called the Munster food inspector. As of today they are closed, they found a filthy kitchen and numerous violations. If you call the number it states they are closed for kitchen repairs....eat at your own risk!!!!

I love the food. Very nice people who run it. I had only 2 little issues which were taken care of, nothing major. I have been ordering from this place now for a few years. I make it easy, I get the same thing everytime, and its in their system, so they just pull it right up and it gets set to go. I highly recommend Fortune House.

I have ordered carry out from here a few times, tonight I decided to eat in.I got an order of pot stickers, pan fried noodles, and black pepper beef. Took home an order of hot and sour soup...this meal, in addition to the others I have had was far better than most I have had in the area. When I read reviews,I always look to see what people complain about in addition to what they rave about...anyone who orders typical American Chinese food, sorry I don't trust your opinion on anything. I can honestly say the only thing I found even slightly disappointing was that they did not have red vinegar. Beyond tasty it has all been very good, especially for the region! Glad to have found a new place that has been here a while.

I always love going to this place because the food is always good, the service is always excellent, and the ambiance is great. Nothing too distracting, and they have both an American and a chinese menu so that those that want more authentic foods can have their pick! The waitstaff is always amazing and polite, and careful to get orders correct every time!

Officially found my Cantonese family restaurant near me. The Salt and Pepper Squid that I ordered was PERFECTLY COOKED. THERE SINGAPORE MEI-FUN WAS YUMMY-LICOUS. SZECHUAN BEEF WAS JUST THE RIGHT OF SPICY.... all these dishes are from the spicy category, just do you know. My friend the waiter has a funny side to him. He is awesome! LOVE LOVE LOVE... LOVE THIS PLACE. The food prepared by the cooks here is AWESOME, BUT....I Really come for the waiter. He's been a good friend of mine since day one when he first served me and my family. His service is unparallel to any other I've met. He has this funny, comedian like, jokester during your stay here. You can be a jokester to him as well and he can take it.He knows who he can joke with and who is a stiff. Any dish you wish for he'll get for you. But he already knows what dishes I like in the winter and what I like in the summer. I can never remember the names of the dishes and I'll explain what the dish I'm looking for and BAM!!! Like that....I get the right dish every time. Even if he got me the wrong dish, I'd enjoy it anyways because EVERYTHING here is great. I can tell him I want to try something new and he'll explain a dish to me and what's in it and that simple... My order is here and delicious. I can't remember his name nor the dishes but he's the only waiter they got there. Funny guy, always with a smile. Never mad about anything.

Best Chinese food in the northwest Indiana. The separate authentic Chinese menu has a selection as good as anything in Chinatown for half the price. Beyond that, service is great, never had a bad experience in the dozens of times I've gone. Fortune House has been a staple for our family for years and will continue to be so. Highly recommend! P.S. most of the negative reviews that mention the food are those looking for a Panda Express type meal. If you're not looking for authentic Chinese, but rather Chinese-American fusion then this isn't the place for you. (I.e. you'll see mentions of chicken wings or Mongolian beef: American dishes. News flash: If you order french fries at a sushi place or pizza at a Peruvian place, I don't know what you expect...)

Ordered a large teriyaki chicken....all I got in it was onion and teriyaki soup and two tablespoons of chicken. Alos ordered chicken with green beans and there was very little chicken. Terrible! Don't go here....if you're in the area go to J's Peapod. Never had a bad meal at J's and plenty of meat in your dish. Took a picture of my meal....wish I could post how bad the meal was.

Great place! Love it there for anytime I'm in the mood for Chinese/Cantonese food. The one guy who's always there when my brother-in-law and I stop by is a cool guy, always very friendly and helpful. Our first time there he was like you sure you wanna order these meals separately? And I was like why do you ask? and he's like, It's a lot of food. Too much for just you two guys then starts laughing. Lol. We decided to take his advice and order accordingly. MAN!!! It was still quit a bit of food and for a good price. On one occasion, 4 of us guys went there for lunch and ate GOOD! and the ticket was under $40... we took his advice again on what and how much we ordered. Great guy! Great price! Great food! I recommend visiting and patronizing this spot!

Probably the best Chinese takeout food within an an hour if not the state. I've had a lot of Chinese food. Some great, a lot of bad food. This place is great. First of all the lunch special has a fantastic price and you will get enough food for 2 meals. I dare you to try and eat all of the lunch special in one sitting. There are always a lot of people waiting and eating here. They clearly have customers that love the food. The time is a little slow, but I'd rather have slow food at a lunch rush hour than quick and bad food. That's why you can easily call ahead. I love this place and highly recommend it for anyone. As for the decore, there isn't really any. There are 2 tables but this is mainly for takeout.

More like the Misfortune House! Don't ask for a substitution because you won't get it! They will just charge you for an extra side and give you both items. I couldn't substitute fried rice for white rice. First Chinese restaurant I've ever been to with that policy. I guess that's how they pay for the lame decorations. $14 for chicken and rice and rice. To top it all off, it was literally the worst fried rice I’ve ever had - tasted like it was drenched in old oil. NO TIP FOR YOUUUUUUU!

Ordered a to go order, everything was there. Got the crab ragoons, egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, vegetable fried rice and beef fried rice. It took about 15 minutes everything was hot and fresh and the gentleman that took the order was very polite. It was all delicious this will be my goto for Chinese. Even though I live in Schererville it's worth the drive.

Food is fantastic and great portions. Decent and clean atmosphere but very bright inside. Very friendly man speaks English very well takes my order, and they take orders even 5 minutes before closing! Talk about the customer coming first! They truly know this. Unlike that "Tasty" joint up the street in Hammond which the carryout menu says they close at 9:30 and don't even answer the phone at 8:45 Way better than wings too. Wings is a poor excuse for Chinese cuisine. Highly recommended!

Ordered food and came with a whole onion and I asked for very little onions they used all the onions to use less chicken. So I explained to the waiter and instead of him taking the food back to the kitchen to fix the order he brought a plate of chicken that I had to mix into the original order. Will never go here again I don’t know where the high star rating comes from.

I ordered vegetable egg foo young, shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. Everything was good, but I couldn't bring myself to eat the shrimp. The color was alarming. Everyone was really nice, so I called to ask where the shrimp came from. I was told they are from Lousiana. I've never had shrimp fried rice, with shrimp this color. He said they've been selling it this way for over 20 years. Otherwise everything was great. Has anyone else felt this way?
