I love a good pork schnitzel, so when I saw it on the menu as a sandwich, I had to have it! The fries were delicious, but the sandwich was a let down. It was too greasy for me, a good schnitzel should not be like that. I’ve eaten here before and have enjoyed the food, and the drinks. The staff are very friendly too. But I was expecting something a little bit better. Also, the presentation seemed weak, maybe add some other color into it.
Very interesting. I was unsure about this place so we finally ended up to give it a try. The burger I had was fantastic. Well worth it and a very comfortable atmosphere.
Service is fast! Barely finished my first drink. Beautiful place, lovely people and amazing food. Can't loose. So attentive.
Excellent food, great staff and service. Highly recommend.
Nice place for drinks....great atmosphere
We go there all the time for brunch (Saturday and Sunday). They have a small menu but the change it constantly so it is nice to get diferente options though out the year. My husband always gets the classic scramble eggs that comes with cheese and he says that is the best scramble egg dish in the city. I like different things I tried the chilaquiles, the pho, the French scramble, the cinnamon rolls, the salmon toast.... They were all super good. Mimosas are not that expensive and the play great music!
We went for brunch, it was delicious! You can't beat $5 mimosas that are mostly champagne. The food was really differnt. Nice variety on the menu. The cinnamon rolls are amazing!! Great atmosphere!
This is a great place for brunch or drinks. It does take a minute to understand the menu but you'll find once you get passed the "high brow" phrasing most food is comfort food and anything you pick, you will like. The portions are a good size. I will definitely go back.
Food was inventive and delicious. About $60 pp.
Great cocktails, good service, cool atmosphere, food is great. Always a great choice.
Lovely place, great presentation, awesome food, immaculate service. We've been twice and will be going back again soon.
Long story . Food when finally arrived...then sent back for correction was good . Management staff initially met responsive to issues like 60 min for steaks to arrive. Arrived cold . obviously played but not served. Tjey finally came around. Corrected mistakes. Treated us better. But was a bit of too little to late. Food was however very good . Only reason 3 stars not less
Food was ok, service was slow...
When I first walked in I was impressed with the atmosphere and was sure I was going to love this place. Ordered a fried green tomato BLT, really thought it was going to be life changing. Now that I'm done, I'm sadly unimpressed, service was ok, and my BLT was not nearly as good as I had hoped. All in all, still not a bad place, just really didn't meet my expectations.
Always fantastic, bustling restaurant. This spot is obviously a favorite for good cocktails, wine, and upscale food.
Cute decor, interesting cocktail selection. Seating was very tight. It was so tight that my wife's jacket knocked over the water glass of the next table over. We were excited to eat here, and I was intrigued by the menu. It started off just fine. But then things came off the rails. We ordered appetizers and entrées all at once. Our appetizers came out and were fine. They went heavy on the coarse salt on top of the charcuterie slab. But it was fine. Then, we waited, waited, waited...for an hour and forty minutes for our entrées to arrive. The server came out a couple of times to assure us that they would be out shortly. Then nothing For an hour and forty. When the entrées finally arrived, I was excited because it must be extremely delicious due to how long they took to make. I got the hangar steak, medium rare. And when I got it, it was cold, and flavorless, aside from the heavy dash of coarse salt, which I had to pick off. And the server, while nice enough, didn't seem to care too much that we waited spent nearly 2.5 hours for a dinner without dessert. Not a tasting menu dinner. Just a casual dinner with friends. All in all, it was a unremarkable dining experience, and with how many great places there are to go to in Chicago, even in the area, I doubt I will be back to Wood.
Such a lovely place with delicious food and a wonderful staff
More like 3.5 stars, but I just wasn’t wowed enough by this place to bump it up to 4 stars. Service was pretty good, but my favorite thing about this place is the ambiance, and that’s what bumps it up from a 3 to 3.5 stars. I love the trendy feel of this place, and it seems like a great place to get drinks. But as for dinner, the tables are cramped too closely together, so that if you’re of larger than average size, don’t try squeezing between the tables to sit on the booth side, because you’ll just embarrass yourself. We ordered the lobster spaghetti, which was delicious, but was super tiny, even for a small shared plate. Good amounts of lobster though, which a great white cream sauce. Had to go with the braised short ribs too--- but this dish was somewhat of a let down. The meat wasn’t as flavorful or as tender as I liked. Yes, it was soft and tender, but it still seemed dry at the same time, and just didn’t wow me. Overall, it was more of a bland dish. I wish I was in the mood for a cocktail when I went, but maybe next time, when I’m stopping by just for drinks.
Great space, good beer, bad company. (Bwah-bwah) Looking forward to next time...either solo or with better company!
The food very good, the atmosphere fun s d stylish, the people personable and smart
I wood have loved this place if the portions hadn’t been been small or the food hadn’t been disappointing. They served us the saddest looking cheese plate with an inedible cheddar. I let my waiter know and when he said he’d take care of it he actually meant he’d just take 5 dollars off the total cost. The lamb was incredibly fatty and the sea bass dish was a culinary disaster. The fish itself was good but the garnish was bitter and drenched in an acidic bitter broth and the vegetables were inedible. For a meal that cost us over 100 dollars we were sorely disappointed.
A great dining experience from start to finish at this modern American restaurant. Well informed, knowledgeable wait staff who were able to accurately and succinctly answer questions. Small and large plates allow the opportunity for sharing with group or traditional dining. Good wine list. Cozy dining room with good ability to hear and converse with your dining partners.
Fresh ingredients great service... absolutely the best boys town has to offer
Brunch Chef Carl Sladkey served us phenonomenally and jubiliantly. Keep an eye on this rising gastronomic star. The cinammon buns are to die for, the coffee flows freely, and the ambiance nurtures the soul.
Great service and food. Terrific spot for a date or just a casual meal.
Excellent food, especially the flatbread, great service
Most of us had the happy hour food special with the double cheeseburger. It was great!
So amazing!!!!! It was so easy to get a reservation for the time we wanted. Usually I love sitting outside in nice weather, but I didn't mind sitting inside at all this time. The ambiance was great, the waiter was superb, and the food was delicious! I will definitely be coming back here with more friends. Don't forget to try the cheese tasting board ;)
I like the atmosphere of this place. The staff is friendly and the vibe is good. I have eaten here before and have enjoyed the brunch menu. We came in for dinner and had the ribs. I had somewhat expected that they might come on a bed of potatoes, maybe a vegetable as I have seen pictured online. We received a row of ribs which is OK but they are also not cooked long enough, the fat was not rendered off of them making them very fatty and tough.
Great brunch place in Boystown! Love the name very clever!
Creative and limited menu combined with a great wine list make it good choice.
Fun little place in the city. Could have a bigger menu, but it's a small place. Food was very good. As were the drinks!
Sensational food, service, and atmosphere!
Always delicious!!
My family surprised me with a birthday gathering here, and we loved it. We had great service, great food and an awesome time overall.
Really friendly and attentive staffs all around! Pretty and neat decor. Went for brunch on a Sunday, didn't have any problem with getting a table for a fairly large party. Everything was good, esp the burger. However, I wouldn't say they were amazing that I can't wait to eat the same thing again. I wouldn't mind trying something else for dinner. I enjoyed my time there.
The caesar salad and Pork schnitzel was amazing.
Great food. Great service.
Great atmosphere, good cocktails, and decent (but heavy) food. The server, Patrick, was a nice guy but accidentally entered the wrong order in the computer, so the kitchen brought me the wrong dish and I sent it back. Accidents happen, but what's important is how to deal with them. They brought my meal out when the rest of my friends essentially finished theirs, and I was offered no drink, salad or anything while waiting. Then when the bill came, I was surprised to see that I was charged full price. They basically didn't do a single thing to make up for the mistake or to apologize by offering a dessert...just something. After my initial 2-star review was posted, however, I'd have to say that the manager, Paquale, did handle it well. He found my number from the reservation and called me to personally apologize, to explain that such service was not intended, and offered a gift certificate to give them another try.
Eat here at least once a month and the food and service never disapppint.
The food was really good just not a fan of those old booth-style seating where if 1 person has to get up the entire table has to as well.
Great cocktails and atmosphere, so so food
Great brunch. Corn beef hash and french omelettes are both amazing.
Amazing food, good service. Definitely earned its place on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list
Wood was better than average but not exceptional. Honestly I had higher hopes after reading some of the reviews. If you go in thinking "gastropub with a nice bar" rather than "New American fine dining" you'll be OK. Service was good. Atmosphere was interesting – typical gay bar music which was appropriate for the neighborhood but made it feel more like a bar than restaurant.
Go go brunch. The corn beef hash is the best I've ever had. The corn beef and potatoes are so perfectly crispy.
Great atmosphere
The desserts were wonderful
Great food & service!
Food and service were great. Scallops and flatbread are fantastic!
High prices for portion sizes. Beautiful space in heart of Not shown.
Wood is one of few very tasty places to eat in the Boystown area. They have a nice cheese tray with good jams and breads. We also enjoyed some of their specialty drinks. Service was good and each of enjoyed our entrees, especially mine which was the chicken thighs. I recommend this place highly, especially in the area.
Granted this is one of my locals, however their cheeseburger is not to be missed. Solid, consistent kitchen and a good bar to boot.
It's a very nice place, it's more oriented to relax and take a few drinks on side with some of the good they have there, didnt order something to eat I just wanted a couple of drinks. The barman was really nice and made a couple of suggestions on things I wanted and even made me something not on the menu, i liked and think I'm gonna start being a regular there when I just want to spend a nice night out.
Wood came recommended - went before concert at Wrigley. Service was poor and food came cold 40 minutes after ordering. When we notified server they essentially took it all to the kitchen and cooked it more. The food came back looking handled and was severely over cooked. Manager was nice although not apologetic. Our sense was they were not at all equipped for a busy evening at all. Very disappointing- there are many better alternatives if our experience was at all representative.
Always an excellent time. Get the duck!
Choices are limited but the food and service was awesome.
Good food
Been here for brunch with friends. Food and service are great. Staff friendly and fun.
We stopped at Wood today while we were at Market Days. We sat outside, which is very pleasant. Wood keeps a nice ratio of tables to servers - not overloading servers with too many tables like happens at other restaurants. We ordered the chicken Caesar salad and the double cheeseburger, and we shared the two entrees between the two of us. Along with the Pomegranate iced tea, it was another pleasant meal here!
Several great visits in September, 2019 -- the food, service, and ambiance were terrific. The food was subtly prepared and delicious. We are fans!
Post new chef. Burger happy hour special no longer on offer. Heirloom tomato salad was good. Burger with mushrooms was disappointingly single note of just meat. Needs some acid or Tang to liven it up. Wife loved the cacio Pepe and our friend thought the branzino was very good
In town on business and found this gem. Great neighborhood atmosphere and excellent food. The best part was our waiter Blake. He made our experience five stars. Would definitely come back here on my next visit.
Delicious cocktails. Good was great. And cool bartenders!
Patrick our server was excellent. Our host was attentive & the kitchen with bus staff was like an organized dance of life. Love to belly at the bar with the bartendar but the booth was comfortable. Thanks Wood!
I can’t say enough about this place. Ambiance, prices, deals, drinks, food. All great and not in that particular order. The hangar steak was phenomenal. The portions may be a bit on the smaller side, but absolutely must go.
Food and the people watching was great, but the service was horrendous. It took 15 minutes for a server to even greet my table last night. I had to fill the waters at the table myself. Not returning back here.
A spot on caesar salad followed by a scrumptious cheeseburger with perfectly salted fries to match. All enjoyed on they're patio among happy people, including an attentive service team.
Was here to attend late night at Wood. The vibe was cute and the music was good, but the service was lacking. Took ages to even get acknowledged at the bar and then even more to be served. On top of that, when one of my friends moved to try and get noticed, he got back talk from the bartender who let him know he had already seen him, but was still not serving him. This place has potential. Hopefully the bartenders will adjust to moving a little quicker and bring a little more customer focused. Here's a picture of the bar with no one behind it on Halloween weekend night!
Everything is perfect here. The food itself is just delicious.
Our party of four had the mixed board appetizer which was awesome and we shared four of the small plate and two of the large plate entrees. All were wonderful as we're our cocktails, wine and beer. The Saturday night crowd was a bit loud, so I'd class this as casual fine dining rather than the quieter formal fine dining.
The decor inside is beautiful, has a very good lounge type atmosphere. The food was excellent as well. The only knock on this place was the outdoor seating, the tables were a bit wobbly. Other than that, this place is definitely a neighborhood gem.
1st date with my boyfriend here. Perfect spot! Lots of straight and gay couples on dates. Delicious scallops. Excellent service!
nice breakfast burger. I think we were there too early as there weren't many people there but the food was good!
Good food... Cocktails less good...
Food was bland as well as I highly believe that I received food poisoning from them. I can't base this off of anything aside from not having eaten anything the entire day except their food and then getting extremely ill the next day. Scallops were cold upon serving, nothing had really any flavor to it.
New age steak house with a limited menu and small portions. Impeccable service and a real good vibe , nice date place.
By all means you must try the beef tartare
Went here for a friend's birthday to have dinner and drinks with a group of 6. The only interesting thing on the menu was the vegan carrot dish, which was good but I was really hoping to have more food options. Giving stars here for their cocktails - which were really good.
Great birthday dinner! Nice, knowledgeable staff.
Nice decor, great location but not food. It was 9pm!
Best meal I've had in a long time!!!
Always good food. Decent service. Eat at the bar. It's always a bit more social than sitting at a table and the bartenders are pretty friendly.
This place is so cute and warm and intimate. The service was amazing and the food was so delicious. The servers were friendly and kind. I would totally recommend for really any occasion.
Great selection of course classic cars cocktails and excellent food. The added side dining area gives you a good selection of seating options and party sizes. Recommend reservations Fri-Sunday. Great place for brunch and day drinking after right in the center of Boystown.
Food is hit or miss but the bartenders are hot and pour a stiff drink!
This is a great place to visit and eat at the bar. The small plates taste great and there is great value for the portion size and price. The craft made drinks are great especially the martinis. There is a very good wine list, too. Finally, the staff have been friendly and informative.
Delicious small plates in stylish ambiance.
Delicious food and atmosphere. Service can be a bit challenging at times.
Good cocktails, and a nice break from the cacophony otherwise rowdy weekend vibe of the area.
The food is good but the bar is amazing!
Nice place! Great people, they are very friendly always smiling and keep asking if you need anything! Drink were good and food was delicious, will definitely go there again.
Great food. Great brunch. Great cocktails. Great spot to hangout with friends and/or family.
Super friendly staff. Food is really good. Would recommend.
It's nice.
I think the wait staff are friendly enough however they tend to be standoffish. The food has great flavor, however, this is a place where portions will be on the smaller side. The ambience is great though and the layout of the place is good. Overall a good choice, just know what to expect!
Food not exceptional but expensive. Bad service. I would not recommend.
Always walked past this restaurant and finally stopped by for dinner. Wasn't really wowed, fun atmosphere, food lacked flavor.
Amazing cocktails! Split a few appetizers with my pal - scallops and beet salad were great.
Wow, great food and a great atmosphere.
Good food and service
Great value for the food quality. Their chicken is always so tender and delicious, but I don't think I've been disappointed by anything. Cocktails are also always great.
My family enjoy it
Lovely place. Seated quickly (despite its popularity and general businesses), wait time for order was more than 15 minutes, BUT well worth it for the quality preparation, cooking, and presentation put into the meals.
My group of 3 put our name in with the host. We understand that it is a busy weekend, and were told that it would be a 40 minute wait, but we could go to the bar & would be approached when a table was ready. Time went by, tables cleared & we still had yet to be told a table was available. Finally our bartender told us we could have a seat wherever. When we sat down, the host came quickly & told us the kitchen was closed, and that they couldn't handle the traffic. If that was the case, why were we not told at the very beginning when it was busy? We would have been perfectly fine going elsewhere. It is very disappointing that we were set with the expectation that we would be able to eat here, then come to find out after waiting that we were out of luck, & the money we spent on several drinks. The customer service & apology left a lot to be desired.
I attended a group dinner here and the host of said dinner stated that this place was amazing and the new IT place on Halsted Street. Maybe he overhyped it and my expectations were too high, but Wood did not live up to that great intro. There was nothing wrong with the service but everything else didn't live up to the hype. The menu is small so understandably the options are limited. The food is good, nothing I remember eating stood out. The prices were obnoxious for the portions with no real star ingredients that commanded the prices being asked. The drinks were outrageously small compared to the price. Several drinks were served in the incorrect glasses, but maybe this was on purpose to encourage smaller portions for more money. Its trendy decor is inviting and it stands out on a busy corner but I could get more from my money at other places in the area and enjoy the entire experience.
Great fried chix.
Earl's Anatomy cocktail is delish. Truffle spaghetti soooo tasty. Great cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Love it!
The wonderfully pretentious gay restaurant we have all been waiting for. Hot(and sometimes very sassy) waiters and great food. Good cocktails too. A favorite for me.
Pros: Great food and drinks, friendly service, nice location Cons: Prices are on the higher end
Wonderful food, drinks, and staff
Always great food and service
The food here is delicious. Great rotating menu and everything we've tried has been great. Mark is an awesome server.
We found this restaurant randomly on Trip Advisor and we're SO glad we went. Great charcuterie and flatbreads and good ambiance and décor
Great food and fantastic service, my group definitely enjoyed our time here.
Disappointed in both the food and the cocktails. Tried their small plates and the two we tried were sadly lacking. The 'spaghetti' was 'pickle-ish' as best described by my dinner companion. In my opinion they went overboard with the lemon or what ever acid they were adding... the pork shoulder, was edible, unlike the spaghetti, however, it was a bit bitter... I had high hopes, but Overall a disappointing first visit.
The staff was friendly and upbeat, and the interior was aesthetically pleasing. I didn't care for the French toast, as it was deep fried end tasted more like an oily cracker, but the cream that goes with it was delicious. The rest of the food - burgers, smoked salmon inlet, etc was ok, but more so just a more expensive version of what I could make at home.
One of the best burgers, fun cocktails and friendly staff.
The best dessert I've had in America. Behold this chocolatey goddess:
The management and staff is great! The food is wonderful and tasty. Limited menu means they do it right.
Good food, good service, cute bartender. Who could ask for more?
Good food, good service, nice atmosphere all on Christmas Eve.
This place has a hamburger that is on par with Au Cheval! It's even better if you factor in that there isn't a long wait like that place. I've had a few other things there but the burger is what really sticks out. The price is good and there's a great selection of drinks. Highly recommend!
higher end but excellent food and service. Well worth it if you live in the area and are looking for a nice meal out.
The four of us went to Wood and absolutely loved it. The cocktails were good, the small plates (appetizers) were excellent (try the flatbread or cheese tray), and all four of us enjoyed our dinners and ate every last morsel. Even the dessert menu was awesome. Our server was cute, and the general lay out of the restaurant was open but intimate at the same time. Definitely new favorite place to eat.
Mother's Day dinner with my son. Wonderful atmosphere, great food, and delicious drinks. Quite busy, but wasn't loud at all.
Always a great place to chill.
The mushroom cannelloni is exquisite!
Never a bad meal. They keep the drinks interesting to you taste buds.
Great brunch, good prices, great atmosphere. Each time I've been there it's been easy to get a seat (even outside) during peak brunch hours, and the food has been fantastic. Good mimosas, too.
Food was great, service was awful. My friend and I went here on a Monday at 8pm. It took over 10 mins for the server to greet us - and the term "greet" is stretch. Then around 15 mins to get our bottle of wine, which came out after the food. At 10 mins I asked about the wine and was told "it's in the works." The manager was also indifferent about our long ticket time - for a bottle of wine that could just be grabbed from the cooler... When we were finished with our food the server silently dropped off the dessert menu. He barely spoke the entire experience. We seemed like a major inconvenience for him, though if he were simply nice we certainly would've gotten another bottle and probably dessert. It's a shame that a place with decent food has such awful service.
The burrata salad and tagliatelle pasta were delicious as was the burger.
Great outdoor seating area. Food was so good. Everything was a winner.
Great place. The drinks and good. Seating is a little tight but to be expected.
I got to wood really excited to try the food. Unfortunately, once we got greeted by the waiter, it went all down hill from there. The waiter had a displeased face as if he was grossed out by us. I don't know if it was because we were Mexican or because we were wearing casual wear (because of the hot weather). Regardless, that should never be the way you present yourself to a table as you're not there to serve who you like, you're there to represent Wood and ensure the customers have a great dinning experience. Still, I decided to ignore that and ask the waiter to tell us about the menu. To our surprise, all he could summon was a simple, "the appetizers are one the left and the entres are on the right" in the most condescending tone you can imagine. At that point he asked if we wanted to order drinks to which we said we'd need a minute. As soon as he left I talked to my friends and we all agreed that we were not welcome there by the waiter and I told them we should leave, which we did imediately. In my personal opinion, I am not willing to stay at a place that cannot make me feel at the very least welcome. I feel like he forgot he's supposed to be working us up for tips, but it's as if he decided he wasn't going to get a good one here (or something like that) so why even bother. I can say now that I will never go back there again. All that I hope is that others don't experience the same.... In case management is reading this and cares; the waiter was serving the back booth/high stool tables (right behind the host stand) on Monday May 28th at 7pm. He didn't even bother telling us his name.
During a summertime trip to Chicago, we ended up at Wood while looking for a place to meet a friend for a quick dinner and drinks before an improv show. We were staying in Wrigleyville and, after checking out some reviews, settled on Wood. We were able to get a quick reservation which I liked and were greeted warmly when we arrived. We sat on the patio which is always fun, it's a good people watching spot. Our server was friendly and efficient, the food was pretty good and the drinks were ok. I'd consider dining at Wood again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place for some small plates.
Great food and atmosphere
Ever changing menu, always a treat with any food. Incredible atmosphere and friendly employees. Always worth a visit.
