REVIEWS OF The Loyalist IN Illinois

James Borkman

Great vibe, good food, and great cocktails. Been here a few times, and I've never been disappointed. I will say one thing, which may be sacrilegious to the burger loving people: I personally find the "special" burgers offered to be better than the "traditional" Loyalist Burger. To wit: one memorable burger, which may be the best burger I've ever eaten, featured bone marrow as part of the patty. It was out of this world good. So good in fact, the table ordered a second one. Overall, this place makes for a great spot to hang out and enjoy excellent cuisine, and warm hospitable staff!

Ashley Anderson

We love coming here! Its fine dining but at a more laid back level! The staff is friendly and accommodating and the food is amazing! Highly recommend their Tuesday burger special. Cant beat it!

Charles Falcone

Superb burgers. Great vibe. A must try.

Caleb Davison

Incredibly delicious! I ordered the regular cheeseburger and it was incredible! The garlic aioli was awesome both on the burger and and with the fries! The picture does not do it justice!

Barry Buchanan

The burger did live up to one of the best in Chicago area. I found the atmosphere a bit too trendy/hip to the point of weird, and a little noisy. There was also a bit of confusion over getting a table or being too early for food which, but maybe that was just my German companions trying to understand the host. If you want an overpriced fancy drink with your awesome burger, this is the place.

Matt Anderson

Great burger and cocktails! Worth a visit!

Daniel Estevez

Great burger and fries, although lines can be quite long

Jaya Agnihotri

Got the burger, biscuits, and bavarois. Amazing!

Uri V

One of my favorite places to dine. Cheeseburgers are da bomb!

Benjamin R.

We had a fantastic experience and meal at the Loyalist! I would highly recommend the burger. The drinks are top notch as well. Be aware that the menu is definitely adventurous, so if you're going in a group make sure there's something for everyone!

Stew P

Came here because we had a gift card to use and we are also huge burger fans. This burger was suppose to be better then Au Cheval...mind you it was great without a doubt, but my heart is still at Cheval. I loved everything about this place, from the service to the movie on tv, and the music playing....awesome place for sure! Highly recommended it! Sorry the photos aren’t the best. Go for yourself!

Jill White

First and foremost... you want to know about the burgers. THEY live up to the hype! Both have such a wonderful flavor and the patty itself is perfectly cooked. That being said, there isn't an item on the menu that I've tried and didn't love. I would absolutely recommend it. Also the interior design of the place is perfectly lovely. From the antiqued mirrors behind the bar to the chairs. No detail was overlooked.

Sarah E. Welch

Creative and well balanced dishes. Loved the Silk Road cocktail. Fantastic meal from the snacks to the dessert and tea to end the meal. The pork belly with grits, ramps, and green strawberries was a revelation. Will return the next time in in Chicago.

Dave Nespoli

Beautiful restaurant with excellent service and great food.

Mark Rosenberg

Wonderful staff...walked in planned on sitting at bar , and they ended up accommodating us with a table... Mussels are phenomenal...burger was definitely delicious, but the menu offers more.

Keller Lambert

The quality of The Loyalist is incredible. The staff is always friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. There is a massive drink selection and the prices are, in my opinion, well-worth the trip for what you get. The Loyalist also has an excellent bar-seating layout, which, in Chicago, is always a good thing. Highly recommend.

Neena O

Their beef tartare is absolutely amazing!!! A must try! Wish they had more options for those gluten free but still good. Their drink menu is creative and makes you want to try almost every drink. I had the doctors orders which was light and refreshing despite the amount of alcohol it entails.

John Engmark

Loyalist burger. Awesome

Stefan Twinn

Great Burger! Get the special with bacon jam. Also had fried brussel sprouts, they weren't seasoned well, skip.

Douglas Singer

Awesome food! Everything we had was exceptional. The heirloom tomatoes were a special and we could've easily ordered a 3rd serving to split among 4 of us. It was that good! The burger is a staple of this place. If you order, be prepared to use your napkin. It is loaded with toppings.

Ken Ugel

On the top burgers in Chicago list, for sure.

Stuart Berman

Great from start to finish. Great drinks, phenomenal Caesar salad and deviled eggs, and one of the best, if not the best, burgers in Chicago.

Mark C

My wife (very sensitive to gluten) came here not expecting to eat anything. She asked about gluten free, and the server was extremely knowledgeable, clarifying the dinner options along with the fact that the fries were not fried with anything that could cross-contaminate. She had not expected to eat anything there, but was bolstered by the server's knowledge and happily and safely ate the chicken dinner. Also, the cocktails were 5/5.

Charles Franklin

Not impressed. We went to eat the 2nd best hamburger in Chicago. Really disappointed.

Cristian Zuniga

Great service, burgers and cocktails. One of my favorite spots in the west loop.

Tori Murphy

Patty to patty, this burger is better than au chevals, it's also 10x less pretentious because you don't have to wait 2 hours to eat it (make reservations for a Tuesday to get the awesome beer, burger, bourbon deal for $15). In fact, the service is always one of my favorite parts of both the Loyalist and Smyth. The staff is some of the best I've come across at any restaurant. They really seem to enjoy working there and are always passionate about the dishes they're serving. The cocktail menu is always so interesting and unique and they should bottle that vinegar for the french fries because it is amazing and I want it on everything!

Tek Chung

The dirty burger and their old fashioned. Such a winning combo. Always a good time!

Stephanie O'Connell

One of my favorite bars in Chicago, the food here is amazing, and I love the atmosphere. Get the burger!

a Tan

Smyth + Loyalists. Great burgers but everything else is a disappointment to the smyth name. Order the burger! Don't order everything else Caviar with bone marrow is a real waste of caviar and bone marrow, the richness of the marrow with donut overpowers the caviar. The beef tartare has too much seasoning that fails to bring out the taste of the beef Burgers were amazing. The service could be better;( 2/5 stars

Christopher Serrano

One of if not the best burger in Chicago, period. Sometimes it's hard to get a table but it is worth it. I haven't tried much else but I'm gonna guess if they are that hard working on a burger they are just as hard working with everything else.

Mark R

If you are looking for the best burger in Chicago, look no further than the cheeseburger at The Loyalist. Amazing service and atmosphere to match. Highest recommendations.

Anthony S

The famed cheeseburger is good, but not mindblowingly so. Worth a try at least once Check out and follow my feed @instantonium on Instagram if you like looking at delicious food and drinks!

Kristina Carrillo

Delicious burgers! Excellent service!!

Fabian Obando

Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. The basement vibes were chill and just had overall awesome experience. If you haven’t gone, you’re missing out!

Jenn Farrell

Great burger! If you like onions you will like this burger, cooked so perfectly. And you can’t beat the Tuesday special for it!

Lulu Huang

The Tuesday (excellent) burger, beer, and shot deal for $16 is awesome

Jon Tetlak

The Loyalist cheeseburger lived up to the hype. It is one if the best in the city. The special garlic burger was also delicious. It was busy for 10pm on a cold Friday night so we had to be seated at the small bar section and there did look like tables open. The atmosphere and service was good though. I recommend the oysters as well they have bacon fat or something that is so tasty. Highly recommended!

Hannah

The burger was delicious, the playlist was perfect, and they were pouring Chenin Blanc. What more could you ask for?

Ethan Morgan

Amazing experience. Had the Specialist Burger, would definitely recommend, it's currently my favorite burger in the city. We also tried several of the appetizers as well, all wonderful. Absolutely recommend the punch bowl as well, they make it unique to your specifications, it's great!

Sarah J.

Best burger and fries, hands down!!

Robert Riendeau

Is this what love feels like?

Jeff Ma

The Loyalist has been steadily gaining hype as one of the best burgers in Chicago so naturally I had to come try this burger out. I made reservations on Tock which was very easy to do and came here on a Friday night to try out the infamous “Loyalist” burger. The Loyalist is on the basement level with the Smyth above it. The atmosphere is similar to a speakeasy so dim lights, cozy and perfect for a date night. As we had reservations, we were seated right away so I’m not sure how long the wait would be without reservations on a Friday night. With that being said, the staff at the Loyalist is great and the cocktails were very good. However, I may be one of the few people who believe the food did not live up to the hype. We mainly wanted to try the burgers, but we did add the Biscuit with shallot puree and aged cheddar as an appetizer. I’m not quite sure what I was expecting with the biscuit, but it was literally two small triscuit sized biscuits with jam and shredded cheddar on top. I was a bit let down with this dish so if you go in expecting it just to be a taster then you probably won’t be as disappointed as I was when I saw the dish. Now when I tried the Loyalist burger, I’ll say it’s a very good burger. However, when you compare it to the $16 price tag it’s tough to push this burger from a “good” burger to an “exceptional” one. Although I felt the Loyalist burger did not live up to its hype, I would definitely recommend everyone at least try it once.

I have been wanting to try this place so bad. So I came here with two of my good friends. The place is located under the ground. I heard they make one of the best burgers in Chicago. So I was so excited. When we came here, the service was excellent. Our waiter told us that every single burger is made mixed with bacon. They make separate only beef patties on specific days only. Unfortunately we could not order burgers. Because I don’t eat pork and one of my other friends does not eat pork. The third friend does eat pork and he did enjoy his burger. He’s a native Chicagoan and he said it’s not the best burger he ever had in Chicago. But it was very flavorful to his knowledge. He’s a big foodie. So I trust his taste. The reason why I give it two stars is because I ordered the noodles with seafood or something. It was to my taste one of the worst seafood dishes I ever had. The noodles were al dente but they had weird flavor and texture. My other friend ordered a meal ( a salad or some) that I really can’t remember but he was not impressed at all. We felt it was a waste of our time and our money. Sounds like the only good thing about the menu is the burgers. And if you don’t eat pork, you are out of the picture. In summary, if you don’t eat pork don’t come to this place. And if you’re not planning on ordering the burger, the other options are nothing to order from. My suggestion for improvement is to add something to the menu other than the burger that it’s tasty and a comfort food. From the way they serve the burger I can tell they do have the potential to make something else very tasty.

Ramil Mendoza

Good food and drinks. The original burger is better than thse special burgur last night.

Michael Cisler

Great food and service. Terrific vibe in the place

Billy Venia

Arrived here as the second stop of a progressive dinner. Heard all about the burger so I had to have it. It was money. The various ways onions are incorporated is magic. Ambiance is dark lit study meets basement fun. I have to come back.

Dalt Brewsher

I really enjoyed the loyalist burger. Beef patty with grilled onions , American cheese and pickles on a sesame seed bun was just the right level of flavors. You can taste each ingredient in every mouthful. Comes with perfect batch of French fries. It was a great $16 burger/fry experience. I was also pleasantly surprised by the venue. The loyalist is located on a lower lever. Pleasant decor, background music just right to allow conversation and a great offering of cocktails while you wait for the burger. I was able to walk in and sit in the open bar area but reservations are recommended. Prompt and friendly service.

NiJaal Mottley

I dig the atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good. Smallish plates. The mussels and burger/fries were especially good. It seems overpriced, though.

Sarah Lewis

Amazing cocktails and a really good burger

Vinod Kalathil

Went to Smyth for my wedding anniversary and the food and service were incredible. We chose the 8 course menu and it was perfect portions. My wife got the wine pairing, but unlike a lot of other places there was no pressure to get it. The menu clearly shows some Japanese influence with seaweed featured in several dishes. The egg yolk in salted licorice dessert was to die for. Best of all is the music with a huge variety of hits being played effectively at both Smyth and the Loyalist even though the ambience is so different - and it works!

Brandon Wigboldy

Had the burger and I must say it was indeed very good and lived up to the hype. Overall very nice dining experience in a very trendy setting. Also had the gnocchi and it was good too. Wings were a very unique flavor, not my favorite but not bad.

Nicholas Clift

This (along with Smyth upstairs) is absolutely one of our favorite spots in the city. My now fiance and I had our engagement party here recently and Kate and the whole team took such incredible care of us. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable and they could not have delivered a better experience. Huge thank you to the whole team!

Maria Hayes

Great food, interesting atmosphere. Service was a tad slow, but friendly and attentive. Also paid attention to food allergies.

chris kopecky

I can't speak for the country, but I can pretty confidently say that this is hands down the best burger in Chicago. I love to sit at the bar with friend or s.o. and start with a couple oysters, both raw and broiled are fantastic. Next up the ouststsnding mussels with escargot butter. Then after the salt water warmup it's time to move to the main course of the "dirty burg". This consists of their house grind of short rib, chuck and bacon. This is the secret to a world class burger, not a fried egg or special aoli. Finally topping it with the slightly toasty sesame bun. The fries I order with an extra ramekin of garlic mayo get devoured as well. There are some terrific cocktails on the menu, although I typically enjoy the burger with a Stone IPA. For the tastiest burger in town, I would skip the long lines down Randolph St. and head to the Loyalist. Pro tip: They have an ongoing Tuesday night special for burger, beer and shot at the bar.

Brian Reyes

The Loyalist burger is the best burger in Chicago. No question. The house made garlic aioli is the best aioli, make sure you ask for another cup of it. Go on Tuesdays for free beer and shot that comes with the burger. The place has kind of a speakeasy feel to it. I've had a lot of burgers in the city, but this is the go-to burger. Other items on the menu are good too, I personally like the deviled eggs, but do yourself a favor and get the loyalist burger.

Mark St.romain

At time of writing this is the best restaurant in Chicago. The burger here cured my cancer. I will fight anyone who thinks the food isn't amazing.

Christina Aro

Small restaurant, but the food and cocktails are excellent, especially the burger.

Thomas Christian

Great dining experience, especially if you’re looking for something a bit more casual. Wish I remembered our waiter’s name, but he was one of the best we’ve had in this city. Personable, helpful and made our evening that much better. The menu is easy to navigate and I couldn’t get over the Old Fashioned. It was a delight to drink. There are two burgers on the menu and we split The Loyalist. It’s complex and rich. An awesome burger, but wish the patty was highlighted a bit more.

John Sorci

This place was rated to have the best burger in the country, and they definitely live up to that. On top of the best food, their drinks are amazing, the atmosphere is perfect, and the wait staff is unbeatable. Sarah is my absolute favorite server in the whole city. Whenever we have friends visiting from out of town we ALWAYS take them here.

James Dorman

Absolute best burger in the city. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time as they are booked most nights and finding a seat at the bar can be tough. Service was incredible... Autumn is a Saint - best server in the business.

David Pineda

The atmosphere is great; dim lights and good music. The food is really good! We tried the pop over with beef garum. The bread was light and flaky like a croissant; the garum was good for dipping! Next we had the loyalist burger as well as the short rib pappardelle. Both were cooked exceptionally well! Slightly over-salted. However, my Fiancee likes that but even she mentioned its presence. The seats on the table are really high but if you look over those two small things, you'll find a great drink menu! I had the Half-Demon twice! I had an itch in my throat from the changing weathers walking in. Two half-demon drinks later and it was gone. The drink itself reminded me of an upscale, well-prepped hot toddy. Very very good!

Chris Webber

Fantastic experience. Tried nearly everything on the menu. Food and service 5 stars!

Dijana Stankovic

You guys are the best! Everything was great, the food, the coctails.. Our server David was amazing! I really appreciate the signed birthday card and dessert that was spectacular!

Raquel Escobar

A great drink menu

Sofia Janson

Great and tasty food. Unfortunately, customer service was not as positive. I got food poisoned after eating the mussels. I woke up at night after our visit and scolded several times. When I contacted the Loyalist and informed about the situation, I was met with great scepticism and distrust. I know that seafood is sensitive and that one single bad mussel is enough to cause poisoning. I understand that things can go bad sometimes, but I had hoped for better treatment and understanding. Especially since the food poisoning meant that parts of our journey to wonderful Chicago (we were travelling all the way from Stockholm, Sweden) were destroyed.

William Baker

Fantastic food here. Use to be a person all in on Au Cheval down the street, but this burger might have them beat. If you come here you will not be disappointed. Edit: after consideration, this now gets my vote for best burger in the city

Isaac White

My wife and are always looking for the flavorful food, and the Loyalist Burger from the Loyalist is downright the best burger we've found to the date. If you go on Tuesdays it's a steal of a deal with a burger, beer and shot for 16$.

Samantha Roderick

It's always too busy but the service is good enough, considering. The food and drinks were great!

Eric Lambert

Best burger ever! Tim was a great waiter. The oysters were fab too

Jason Broom

Just as I expected. Dark romantic basement restaurant in the warehouse district of Chicago. The service and the dishes were spectacular. #Geauxeat

Katherine Magnuson

I went to the Loyalist on a Friday night with a party of 9 (I made the reservation online about 10 days in advance.) The experience was fantastic. They seated us at a big round booth, very comfy. Our waiter, David, was very knowledgeable about the menu and had a great personality. The cocktails were excellent and the food was great, too. Everyone that had the burger LOVED it. At the end of our 2.5 hour dinner, David brought us a round of crafty shots (on the house). I will 100% be back!

Derrick Phillip

Best. Burger. In Chicago.

Jeff Hamlin

Deviled eggs and cucumber salad were great starters... Gnocci was also quite good. All in a cool downstairs atmosphere. Really enjoyed it!

Rock Irvin

Best burger. Best cocktails. Best team.

Winny Chiu

Went here for the $16 burger, bourbon, and beer deal on Tuesday. The cheeseburger was delicious!!! Because of the Tuesday special, you need to call for reservations ahead of time.

Kathryn Cervantes

worth all of the hype and more. Went for the burger and left more impressed by the overall experience. Cozy chic atmosphere feels like a modern speakeasy+. Located downstairs in the building, very clearly labeled although we still accidentally walked into Smyth first. Burger held up to be excellent, as did all food items including the pistachio crusted loup de mer. The sauce on mussels starter was so good we kept it during the meal for extra fry dipping. Food is reasonably priced, the cocktails upped the bill but the manhattan was the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend enjoying a cocktail while there.

Angelo De Simone

Best burger I've ever had.

Becca Kershaw

My favorite burger in the city! Tuesday is a burger a shot and a beer night. Delicious burgers!! Great staff

Vincent Dusina

Wonderful burger and as relaxed an upscale dining experience as you could want. Well worth the visit and a few returns!

Heriberto Soto

Came here for the Loyalist Cheeseburger and it was legit. Totally worth the trip just for that one menu item. Just be sure to savor every bite because before you know it - it will be all gone. Also tried the smoked salmon deviled egg and the cocktail called the Violet Crimes. The deviled egg delivered a smooth Smokey savory romp in my mouth. The Violet Crimes was a delightful joy for the eyes as well as a welcomed refreshing and zingy beverage.

Ricardo van Dijk

What an amazing burger! No need to browse the menu: you came here for it! Pretty cool place located at the underground of a fancy restaurant.

Doug Miller

We tried both the secret burger and regular cheeseburger. Both were good but not worth the hype we heard about being one of the best burgers in town. Very busy place, make reservations, we stood by the bar sharing one seat because the tables were reserved or full for 2 more hours.

Rufus Puffy

Remarkable atmosphere and food!

Manieshia Hampton

This place is Trendy and just as tasty as it’s rival AuCheval! The menu is very creative boasting some unexpected items and options! We tried the deviled eggs with Trout Row-(Trout eggs) for our appetizer! It was our first visit so we ordered the Loyalist burger! The burger was perfectly balanced! I was delighted by the option to substitute fries with Brussel Sprouts. (Someone knows I’m trying to watch my figure.) The Brussels Sprouts were flavorful and the drinks were robust! Visit this place! You won’t regret it!

Abdulkader Dadou

I went to try their burger after a foodie article on it being a top burger in Chicago. The burger is so simple; toasted sesame buns, juicy patty, sauce, pickles, cheese and sauteed onions. I was amazed how good this burger is. It has to be one of the best. The fries were a little salty but crunchy and good. They have a Tuesday offer which is burger, fries and beer for 15$ (burger and fries are 16$ without beverage on the menu) and they have a special burger on Wednesdays, in which they mix bacon while preparing the patties. Will definitely come back for the burger some other time. Very friendly staff and bartenders. Better to book a table before going.

Ethan Green

Loved it, our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had a great cocktail and the cheeseburger which was a delight. We also tried an array of their appetizers which were delicious. It's clear they have a very good kitchen with smart and interesting chefs.

Dan McInerney

The drinks and food are top notch.

Tina Lam

Super nice staff. Delicious food.

Steve Eldridge

Some of the very best food to be found in Chicago

Joseph Townsend

What you've read about the burger is true, I don't know how they do it but they do. I'd put it right next to Owen and Engine, perhaps better. Well done cocktails, fries were crispy and tasty.

Alex Speaker

Under promise and over deliver, executed to perfection. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, they graciously started us out with a couple glasses of champagne and finished the meal off with a cream puff + a candle. Our waiter was attentive and personal, sharing anecdotes along the way. Simple, well executed food. I recommend the liver mousse chicken wings as a starter.

Scott Sachnoff

Red light Negroni is da bomb. Burger is quite good (not as good as Owen and Engine, however.) Caviar is featured. Crowded. Noisy.

Brenden O'Brien

Cool underground hipster spot in west west loop. Loyalist burger meat has bacon and chuck ground in it and is served a juicy medium temperature...perfect amount of grilled onions and special mayo...overall very very good burger. Pardon my French cocktail with bubbly topper was fantastic. Other entrees are not five star but the burger def is.

Ravenswood

Just returned home from the Loyalist and checked out the other reviews online. Couldn't understand all the hype. My burger was greasy - super greasy and no flavor, save the onions. And the fries were not fresh. I don't think the carrots were either. We shared the 2 salads on the menu. The one had a ton of green goddess dressing. The other had a very small dollop of salmon in a mayo dressing. The highlight of the meal was the deviled egg. The service was very good.

Nick Pecora

Finally got to try the Dirty burger and it lived up to all of the hype. Succulent oniony grilled burger that proves why it’s the new #1 burger in the city!

Nolan Redetzke

Best burger in Chicago! Go on Tuesday for the burger, bourbon, and beer special.

Derek Rycewicz

Great food, great service. Amazing Panna cotta

robert spence

Excellent food great atmosphere

David Schwartz

Supposed to be the next greatest hamburger. It is good but it isnt special enough still it is interesting enough. Had the wings which were good but not great. The place has too much hype

David Ortiz

The single best burger I’ve had in the country !

Thomas Ermann

As a perfect burger should be

Aisha Garba

Went to Smyth. The experience was amazing. The food was wonderful; the service awesome! If you love food and especially like to try new things it's definitely worth it. You really can't go wrong! The servers really explain each dish in such detail. At the end they also gave us a list of everything we had eaten. Just brilliant!

Angel zurita

Solid burger. Too much cheese if anything.

Tommy Guns

Very good burger but nothing exceptional and it’s expensive, service was really slow but it was on a Saturday night so it’s understandable. I just had a burger at 5 guys, same thing , half the price

Andres Guevara

This is the "Best Burger in the Nation"? Yeah, it's good but not great. Granted, it looks like a typical McDonald's flat cheeseburger but it does taste good. Great place and laid back atmosphere.

Vince Jones

Great drinks, food was really good, very friendly service. Nice place to spend some time with family and/or friends.

Grace

It's a boom! Really delicious unlike any other.

Paul Zucker

Though the burger gets glowing reviews from others, I think that there are much better burgers in Chicago. For my money, Owen & Engine has a better burger and a broader menu of great food.

Colin Mickow

We had a very enjoyable time dinning here. Cool vibe, great service, interesting menu, and the burger is fantastic! Highly recommended!

Chris Johnston

Have not missed a single Tuesday since December. Thank you to the entire team for always taking care of me. Look forward to seeing all the familiar faces every Tuesday and enjoying the great food! As a chef myself it’s a treat to recognize and enjoy hard work and effort put into the food.

Jordan Skerkowski

Casual atmosphere with food and drink that are anything but. Get the foie gras-lavender honey appetizer while you can! And whatever pasta they have on the menu. You can tell it's house-made.

Cameron Laudick

Ridiculous food. Great vibe

Sahil Sharma

Great place/great bites and amazing drinks

Haider Albassam

Soooooo goooooood the burger not kidding

Paul Henshaw

The burger reviews do not lie!! Coming from Melbourne and being a bit of a foodie, I was keen to check out what all the rave was about.. eating the loyalist burger was no disappointment and up there with the best burgers I ever had. The meat (chuck, short rib and bacon) was served medium rare and was very juicy.. the onions go well with the very soft sesame bun. We ate at the bar and enjoyed the good atmosphere.. make a booking if you keen to go here.. or rock up an hour before the kitchen opens to sit at the bar and enjoy a few drinks.

Andrew Sharp

Phenominal food. Burger is great, but the real star were the mussels.

Lindsay Brownell

We only had cocktails, but they were great, and the ambiance was cool.

Kate Roberts

The burger is top notch, the wine list is fantastic and the service was incredible. Great place for date night.

Amar Mansuria

One of the best restaurants in the world

Tiffany Wang

The famous dirty burg did not disappoint! Other items like boiled oyster, mussels, fries were also fresh and incredible! The cocktails are customized and amazing. Most importantly, the service was superb- we had a large table of 9 people and the waiter was constantly checking on us, extremely kind and knowledgeable. Totally worth every dollar. Highly recommended!

James Ravenell

I brought my girlfriend here fort milestone birthday. I cannot say enough of how amazing the staff was. The ambiance was just amazing. As soon as we walked in and she saw the open style kitchen she started to tear up. She's a true foodie, and me not so much. So I ate a lot of things that I never ever expected that I would eat. I literally ate a pine cone as one of the courses. And I can't even lie it was freaking delicious. Lol. This is a Michelin rated restaurant, And it did not disappoint at all. It had all of the elements that one would expect to have is such a restaurant. I particularly love the staff, and their service. they were super friendly, and they really took the time to explain the courses and answer any questions we had about them. We had the 15 course option with a wine pairing. she was extremely pleased with all of the delicious courses and desserts, as well as the well appointed wine pairings. We are grateful to the staff for such a wonderful experience.

Jo Brill

Fantastic. Great atmosphere, delicious cocktails, and the food was outstanding.

Courtney Wiher

Come here whenever you have something to celebrate, and put that in the reservation questionnaire. We drove down from Milwaukee (1.5 hours) and upon being greeted by the hostess she wished my husband a Happy Birthday. Then when we got to our table, there was a handwritten birthday card for him, signed by the staff. We ordered a lot and it was all wonderful. Their beet dish changed me - get it. The combo of salty and tart and that natural beet sweet was on point. My husband devoured his Loyalist burger. Don’t forget to treat yourself to their cocktails. Their old fashioned is almost like a deconstructed old fashioned, with the clearest ice cube ever. And leave some room for dessert, that hazelnut puff is divine. In fact, go even if you aren’t celebrating something, it’s worth it! Thank you Sarah V for an exceptional birthday celebration

David Williams

Great food, drinks, and service. One of the best burgers in the city.

Maggie Chou

The best burger in town. Great atmosphere for date and for a group of friends. Came back in two days after my first visit- the waiter( the one looks like Chris Pratt) is incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. If you want great food and phenomenal service, loyalist is the place to go.

Howard Blumstein

This is a hip, upscale restaurant in the basement of a very cool building in the west loop. The upper floor is occupied by Smyth -which is a very fine tasting menu restaurant. Overall, our food was of high quality and well prepared. The portions were small so don’t come with a big appetite. We made two mistakes. One, we ordered the biscuits appetizer with tasteless cheese shavings for $7. The biscuits were literally two ritz crackers. Although a complete waste of money, it provided comic relief for the rest of the dinner. Perhaps we should ask them to wrap up half a ritz cracker as we are too stuffed to finish? Maybe we were on one of those Candid Camera shows? Hilarious to think of the menu planning meeting where someone thought two ritz crackers would be an impressive and creative appetizer. Second, It would have been nice if the waiter mentioned that their burgers were considered top notch in the city- so I didn’t order one but opted for the petite but tasty gnocchi. After reading subsequent reviews on the burgers, I really regretted that decision.

Adam Schuster

Best burger in the city, hands down. Everything else is great too, but get the regular burger your first time.

Vinny Lamovec

One of the tastiest burgers I've ever had!!

Greg Powroznik

Enjoyed the service in a hipster place with an amazing burger. A bit pricy but recommend.

Susie Trovia

I was brought here by an out of town guest so I didn't know much about this restaurant. We went to the upstairs restaurant which was really beautiful. We chatted up a storm and had a great night, the memorable food was my gnocchi, really rich and good.

Great service. Great food. One of the best burgers in the city. Good beer and cocktail selection.

Juan L Cardenas

Good burgers and drinks, Texas burgers

Haley Miller

I’ll be back for the ritzy atmosphere and beautiful craft cocktails.

The mixologist are world-class! The loyalist burger is hands down the friggin best thing I've had this year.

Brendan Knapp

Incredible burger. Cool vibe.

The tasting menu with wine pairings is a bucket list item everyone should do once. big ups to the chef for accommodating vegetarians. delicious food, small easy to eat portions and above par service. highly knowledgeable staff..Steven was awesome.

Matthew Carper

Loyalist cheeseburgers were great, also had the gnocchi and brussel sprouts, too good. Excellent, attentive service.

Jiratt Phonlapat

I have a great time here. The atmosphere was amazing, the service was great, the food was....good not great. I like duck platter. Love the variety in the platter. I can't even finished and I have to take it home but still great in the next day. Hi end restaurant but no valet service kind of disappointed. So hard to find parking.

Victoria Lebron

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the burger here so I decided to go on and try it. When I arrived the place wasn’t busy at all and I grabbed a seat at the bar. Sat there for about 10 minutes, two menus and a glass of water were put in front of me with no words from the bartender, not a smile, no eye contact, and she clearly wasn’t too busy but she put everything down in front of me. This review is based solely on the customer service that I didn’t receive. The burger might be good, But at least I get a hello at Mc Donald’s. Pretentious to say the least.

Love. Love. Love the Loyalist! Our waitress, Sarah, was awesome and suggested great apps, entres, and sides. Food was great and I even got a shot for my Birthday!

Eric Gossger

For me, the burger was over-hyped. Top rated, etc. It was ok, but the extra toppings hid the taste of the burger. The cheese was gooey like cheese whiz, which I dislike. If i'm gonna taste a burger, i want a slice of onion & ketchup. Had to ask for ketchup. Beer selection on tap was poor. Service was ok. Waited for a water refill (no good beer) for a while. The decor was black on black. It is sub street level & dark, like a speakeasy. Wifes tuna thing was okay at best. The omlette was good, but small. The waiter also mentioned they had an off menu copy of a mcdonalds 1/4 pounder. WHY?! For a $16 burger, i don't want mcdonald's! No reason to go back.

If your not sitting at the bar, I suggest making reservations. This place is always busy because they have the BEST BURGER EVER!! Nice little cocktail list, and also the deviled eggs are the best I've ever had. This place is gorgeous, and overall, just a top notch restaurant experience. I'll be back A LOT.

Maximus Maximus

The loyalist burger was the best burger ever!!! The dry aged rib eye was amazing as well! Sea bass was delicious!!! You also must try the oysters!!

Stephen Moock

The foie gras eclair was incredible. We ordered a second one because it was so good. The popover was also quite delicious. We enjoyed the burger, but I felt it was a bit over hyped. The bun didn't hold up well to the amount of sauce that was on it. I think the Au Cheval burger still wears the crown in the burger competition.

Mac Clausen

The best burger I've ever had. No contest. The Tuesday special with a shot and a beer is a great happy hour deal!

Jonathan Linnemeyer

Enjoyed the cheeseburgers and cocktails.

John Miller

It matched up to my expectations. Pricing was little bit high but the quality is worth spending.

Chris Tso

Foie grois eclair was superb. Scallops perfectly done and seasoned. Deviled eggs with smoked trout was inspiring. Drinks were also on point. Everything was great.

Not Andrew

One of the best burgers in Chicago, hands down. Their liver mousse wings might be the best wings I've ever eaten in my life. And the by the glass pinot Noir? Forget about it.

David

Absolutely enjoyed my dinner there ! The service was on point and the food was delicious. Amazing burger and the special fois gras appetizer was awesome. They also have a dart game room for some fun in between meals. I recommend this place !

Brian Pawlowski

Amazing menu and drinks. With exceptional service. One of my favorite spots in west loop

Meredith Accardi

This place is located in a basement but don't let that discourage you its always crowded. The food and drinks both match levels of excellence and the service is great. All the bartenders are genuine and aware. They make eye contact and communicate. This attitude makes a big difference epically in the west loop. I look forward to go back to eat another terrific burger.

Andy Kollin

Great food. Only drawback was the restaurant was hot! Maybe it was just an AC issue that day. The foie Gras eclaire was incredible.

Sara Mejia

Everything was fantastic except for the bland beef tar tar. The fois gras was not what I expected in a great way! Exquisite. I would have given 5 stars save the tar tar. The service was also great!

Misa

Dope place. Food was unlike I've had before but it's not often I'm at a place like this. With that being said, we were here for my boyfriends birthday and tried most of the menu, and literally everything I had was delicious. Drinks were amazing.

Christen Juhl

Decent burger, too many sesame seeds coating top of bun. Almost a brick of them. Burger wasnt greasy, cooked well. Wine was expensive and the pour was thin for $14 glass of house Chardonnay. Hostess was very nice, professional, as well as the waitstaff.

Angela Baum

Super cool spot in the loop. Love love love the burger. Will come back for it again and again. I prefer creative restaurants to this over chains any day.
