Came here for A Day in the Country festival. Great venue, drinks are affordable and the bartenders were great. Definitely will be back!
Great bare-bones bar with Lone Star, comedy, great music of many genres. Also an awesome place to see local acts. Usually cheap and open late
Great venue for live music. Sound is a little weird but I'm being very picky with i say that. Still better sound than almost any other small venue I've been to in this city. Super tucked away, wouldn't ever have known about it if a band I was following didn't have a show there.
Love this local spot. Though with all the development happening nearby they may need to rename themselves to The Holdout. I really hope they don't close! Highly recommend the summer picnic on the porch series. Super chill acoustic performances outside on the patio. Give them your support and keep them going!
Awesome prohibition era bar. Thursday evenings are the best with music performances. If you enjoy cozy simple intimate shows and experience then this place is a must visit.
Great music room. Great bar atmosphere. Low drink prices. Great bartenders. Nice varied crowd. Easy parking. What more could you want?
One of the coolest spaces in the city. Tons of great music shows and other great performances. A hidden gem!
It's a great old place, good music and beer! Everyone there is super nice
The Hideout is one of the best bar venues in Chicago. Period.
One of my favorite venues in Chicago for small shows and jazz! It is truly a hidden gem, tucked away behind warehouses and industrial parking lots. They have a truly friendly staff, cheap drinks, and a wide variety of great music!
Awesome place to see a show.
Favorite venue in Chicago with good drink prices, consistently great line ups and unique location
amazing live music + the new best cocktail I've ever had (the wooden leg)
I can only review the outside of the bar since I was there for AV Club Fest. The bar is pretty far away from a train station but it's still walkable on a nice day. They have lots of live lit readings for the literary crowd. The once yearly music festival out front is pretty low key and chill which is a nice change of pace from the huge music festivals throughout the city.
Friendly and cozy dive bar.
Great hidden venue for live music. Like watching a show in a friend's basement
Great hole in the wall bar. Love riding back here! Cool festivals. Walking distance from other places. I have to write more to earn a pair of sunglasses.
Catch this club before its gone
Best venue in the city. A Chicago classic.
A local gem that's of historic significance (was formally a speakeasy). Places like this are getting harder to find. A cozy venue with an eclectic crowd and a warm inviting atmosphere. The area around the Hideout is slated for development so go soon!
Very cool place. Lots of charm. Lots of good brews on tap plus some unique cocktails!
There is no better club for live music. Great lineups, wonderful and casual atmosphere and a sense of community and ownership among the fans. Its charms defy description - just go.
Best sound ever Sounds like babies scraming
Long time favorite little bar with local live music .
Very cool place. College age crowd but a great place to grab a drink with friends. They had a bunch of bands that night and it was even more lively. Excellent vibe. Only downside is it can get cramped, but no biggie.
Always love coming to the Hideout, small venue with great sound. Great place to see acts up close and more personal.
Neat little bar/venue tucked away.
Love this place of I would have none that the place where there years ago I would have been going there in the 90s
Cool dive aesthetic, awesome live shows
One of my favorite bars in Chicago. Live music all the time. Intimate space. Fun Fact - Andrew Bird used to live in the 2nd floor.
Don’t be turned off by the cover, affordable drinks and a friendly conversation are followed. A hidden gem stuck between development and an old Chicago industrial yard is The Hideout. Great bands, friendly people, all at a very affordable price
Great little place, had a rustic Vibe while being totally modern. Lights all along the ceiling make you feel like your outdoors star gazing. Highly recommended! Especially if you're looking for amazing and great new artists to listen to!
Great music, great people
Nice vintage bar
Can't imagine why I haven't reviewed The Hideout yet, as it's only my favorite bar in the whole city! Hideout hosts the best iteration of Chances Dances (IMHO), they also have awesome shows, comedy, tons of community events and a huge annual block party. Most recently I was there for the Soup & Bread fundraiser, a delicious charity event with home made soups, nice people and good tunes. It's a little hard to get to on public transit, but if you have a car there's tons of parking and biking there isn't too bad either. The drinks are affordable, the creepers minimal and the bathrooms always well stocked. Thank you Hideout for being the most reliable good time place in all of Chicagoland. I love you.
Thanks for existing, Hideout!!
Great bar.
Great bar to catch a show at, or enjoy a beer on the patio.
Amazing venue and awesome staff.
Really fun bar that litterly is a hide away, no busy streets and just chill fun people, so many different people they’re all looking for one thing a good time and I can appreciate that so much, I became great friends with the door man and listened to amazing live music, The Hideout is definitely on my top ten. Cheers!
Great small local bar with amazing music
Intimate space, great service. Sign that petition to keep it open in the face of corporate expansion.
The music was reminiscent of World Music so it was a new experience. Dress warmly because it is extremely cold inside during winter months.
amazing and quaint venue on chicago’s northside. tucked away in an unassuming spot. great live music on the front porch every thursday from Devil in a Woodpile. stop in here!
The Hideout is a homey bar tucked away between I-90 and the river. They have a small stage for live performances and they host great events throughout the year. They've become famous for their "Veggie Bingo" during the summer months and "Soup & Bread" during Chicago's long, miserable winters. It's a place you've got to visit at least once and it's very likely that you'll soon be back for more.
Will be a memory and highlight of my life being in such a historic place with such wonderful calm sweet people!! Cold drinks, Music sent from Heaven, and kind smiles everywhere. Saw BailyDee JD Wilkes, and another Legend Ms.Colby herself! All in ONE night! Love you all and that building forever!
Great little place to enjoy good music and drinks.
Great small music venue and bar tucked away on its own.
Let my band play here plz
I came here to watch ClickHole Live and it was awesome! I loved the atmosphere and the lights on the ceiling. It's a small space but very cozy. If you come here with a big group you might have trouble finding space, that is the only reason I checked off a star.
Great place for a show. Can get a little too cozy for comfort if the show is sold out... Still, it's a Chicago institution worth visiting & supporting.
Iconic venue located in the industrially scenic streets and sanitation neighborhood. Somehow this venue which could maybe squeeze 100 people has had acts roll through that headline gigantic festivals. Also, they probably host your friend's pick up band. Full bar up front, venue in the back, bathrooms in between.
Happening venue with an old school design. The stage and bar are bifurcated which allows for uninterrupted musical enjoyment.
Great place to see a show, small intamit coozy.
Been to the Hideout many times in the last 13 years that I have lived in Chicago. Excellent place. Special thanks tonight to the lady bartender who made me feel so welcome at her bar, as I sat trying to if or the extremely unfunny comedy show on the venue half of this establishment. You are 5 stars.
It was great! Great upcoming music and then a couple regular bar favorites played.
Friendly, no pretences place
Aw, I love this spot.
Great place, super friendly people, talented and unique entertainment selection.
Hidden music venue with a list of bands and great beers on tap.
Great dive bar, supper club feel for a music venue that makes an impression.
One of Chicago's most community-building bar and event spaces.
Dripping w atmosphere. We saw Devil in a Wood pile here. Recommended.
The best music experience, I had during my time in Chicago. It has a great vibe and ambiance. Cover charge was $10. The band performing was Dead River Revival and it was fantastic. If I have chance, I'll go there again
Drinks great! Staff Great! This bar is a hidden Chicago Gem. Just saw Pete Yorn at a mini concert. It was great.
Lovely bar, great staff, wonderful venue. Looking forward to seeing more shows there
Great music venue with always something new, summer block party is also A++++
The coolest place in the city for my version of real Chicago. Fantastic music and comedy and community discussions. Get there!
Devil on a Woodpile live every Thursday night is amazing! Randomly ran into Laura from Against me as well. This place is simply great!
The Hideout is run by awesome people who make you feel like family when you are there for shows
I didn't stay here long, just met up friends. Didn't get food or drinks but the atmosphere was awesome, twinkle lights were cute, live music was playing. I had a good time!
Great little music venue, sort of the house bar for Bloodshot Records.
Every first Tuesday of the month Mick and Ben talk Chicago Politics and open up the conversation to include their audience. Think of it as a civics class Chicago style with two of the best with Mick Dumke from ProPublica and Ben Joravsky from the Chicago Reader.
Great venu for local shows, decently priced drinks. Feels like your high school friends parents basement.
Very neighborhood-y for an otherwise industrial area. Staff was nice, the live music was cool, very small area for music, but cool. I get a good vibe about the place.
Dodging ppl here is the best #hideout
Great little outdoor space. Great prices. New favorite dive bar!
It’s a bar, they do shows
I just always have fun here and the front patio has a great view of the skyline.
Ended up here on St. Timothy Day which has spawned a bizzare traditional of people named Tim joining together for a huge party! Everyone was lovely and I got pulled into their parade which was led by the owner playing trombone. Later that night was a dj set playing awesome funk music. Drinks were great, place is big, and I really enjoyed myself.
After a couple of buses and a 10-minute walk, I found the Hideout only to find out there was a $12 cover charge for some hipster bands I was not interested in. It was 7 p.m. and they were already charging, they didn't even let me grab a drink and down it on their outside patio. The cashier was pretty rude about it too so I'll make sure to never attempt to go and if you do, save yourself the trip and give them a call first.
Loved it. Such a chill, fun place. Everyone is super nice and easy going. Really old looking place. Hopefully we don't lose it to developers!
I actually haven't been in The Hideout proper, but I enjoyed some live music during a recent street fest. The Hideout is an anchor business for this immediate area and is known best for participating in the summer Block Party. Seems to draw cool people and I'd recommend it. Updated: A classic dive bar with the feeling you are at a house party. Live musical acts big and small, but always quality.
You just have to go there to understand.
Soup and Bread is a great event. Check it out!
Great local music venue in Chicago. It is a little hard to find so trust your gps.
Quite an amazing place. Full of life and good people. Look for it and have a good time!
Small bar with doooope picnics. SULLY IS HOT
Great spot for reasonable drinks. Loved their spiked hot cider! Comfy seating, bluegrass type music.
As the name suggests, The Hideout is totally off the beaten path--and yet everyone finds their way here for music, comedy or just to get a solid brew. Voted one of Chicago's best 100 bars by Chicago Magazine, The Hideout lives up to the reputation by offering a quirky yet awesome bar experience. If you can find it, you won't be disappointed. Oh. And if you're ever looking for something to do and you see that Write Club is being hosted here then do yourself a favor and show up. A night of side-splitting hilarity is guaranteed.
Very nice, helpful staff but limited drink selections and no food. Great acoustics
Simply amazing spot. Large stage in the back. Feels like someone basement, but with great booze and fun people.
I go for the open mic Monday nights. A comfortable place. Not snobbish.
Great, little venue.
I go here for Girl Talk once a month. Totally awesome dive location!
Top 3 best live music venues in Chicago. Go now and you'll wonder why you never went before. A gem, truly.
I love everything about the Hideout. From "A Scientist Walks Into A Bar" to Porch Fests, to fundraisers like "Soup & Bread", to amazing live music and comedy of every type, to showcasing local artists, farmers and crafters, to the community engagement... it's simply a Chicago gem.
Great beer, great shows, awesome company. At random times, dude comes in trying to sell tamales. What more could you need?
Went to see a friend of a friend's band last night, and was thrilled with this place! Bar has a great vibe, service was great, ATM was a little slow, but did work! Will definitely recommend to others and be back sometime!
Great sound, impressive lineups, worth the travel.
Went to Girl Talk and it was fabulous. Dive bar near Wicker Park with great shows.
This is a DIVE BAR. Cheap drinks, great selection, tons of awesome live music, run-down interior, hub of progressive social activism, smack in the middle of an industrial section of town (until the high rises invade in a year or two). What's not to love.
I was there for their soup nights where they give the money to different organizations each time and it was a wonderful experience.
I love this bar. A haven in a quickly gentrifying area. They have some of the best shows in the city and I always run into friendly faces. Great patio, cheap drinks, good times. I hope this place never dies, I want to be coming here when I'm 50. Long live the hideout!
Lovely, intimate venue for listening to live music. Skilled & friendly bartenders. Decent drink specials and selection of beer and liquor. A must-visit for out of towners and a venerable treasure for locals to support with frequent visits.
Eh. Easy to get drinks and fast service. Venue is cramped but I guess that's "cozy". Not my kinda dive but parking was phenomenal!
Great vibe at this cool venue. Come on Wednesdays for "soup and bread night" - All you can eat for a modest donation to benefit a local food pantry.
Deliciously dark. You will encounter hipsters in ill-fitting clothes. Good beer. Great music. Out-of-the-way.
Tucked away liberal bar splits time between music shows and political dicussions and community events. Very cool place. Some free parking.
Hidden away in a little cranny of Chicago, this place is a beautiful gem of a bar, music venue, and all around community gathering space. I've been here to see high-profile acts, my cousins Beatles for beginners guitar class, for a soup night, the Block Party, etc. I'm always checking their calendar for events. It's always laid back and I love it.
Why run when you can hide? Every time I come here I’m blown away by the high-low culture - think fishing trophies + wide selection of eclectic artists + wobbly stools. One summer evening here in 2016 changed the rest of my life. Don’t delay your visit.
I played this place with my 10 piece band, I cant say what an amazing place this is to play. The green room, staff, and ambiance are yet to be matched. The sound guy working that night was attentive and made our band sound the best it has ever been live. The drummer and I laughed in the middle of the set because we could finally hear all the parts of the tuba, violin, cello, flute, and PAKAHAWAJ.
Best of the best dives with a prohibition era feel. They host tons of community events here, helping make it a friendly environment for all!
Best alt comedy in town
Cool hangout. Great staff. Great shows.
Overall, I liked it. Small dive bar in an industrial area. There is a large concert area in the back room.
I went to the Hideout a few nights ago to see a concert and was pleasantly surprised. I'd read that the space dates back to Prohibition, so it shouldn't have been surprising that it quite literally drips with authenticity, history, and character. The show space in the back was intimate without being small, a massive plus in a city where many live shows take place in large theaters or sports arenas. If I could see every future show I see in Chicago here, I would a seriously happy person. On the downside, the beer could've been a bit cheaper and the fact that they ran out of a lot of beer by 10pm, on a night when they sold tickets for a publicized event and therefore must have had a good idea of how many people were going to show up, was honestly a little weird. In any case, I hope to be returning soon and often.
Great spot. Keep it alive
Hope-in-the-Wall feel with live music in a great setting! Live music lovers must check it out!
Love the Hideout! Every Thursday is a must!!!!
Best venue in the city! Great drinks, cozy as hell, and every place in there has a good view.
Excellent old time bar with a multitude of musical and artistic fare, cozy and intimate, with great outdoor seating.
Great venue
Hip, and well hidden venue for small musical and lecture events. Great bar selection
Love this joint. I'd give it five stars if it was in just about any other Midwestern city, but Chicago is easily the best city in the Midwest for live music and music venues, and it's easily in the top three cities in the whole country for such things. So, since The Hideout has so much excellent competition in Chicago, it only gets four stars, as venues like Metro, Lincoln Hall, Double Door, etc., get five stars. But this place has an awesome vibe. The atmosphere is excellent: tiny place with a cool front bar; the live room is in the back and is similar to the live rooms at Beat Kitchen & Schuba's, albeit a bit smaller than those joints, but it's a great place to see smaller bands as well as just to hang out.
Gem in the city. Love veggie bingo!
There's something endearing about a little hole in the wall house stuffed between a Chicago city vehicle terminal and some industrial buildings. This place is in the Elston industrial corridor and not only do they have exceptional music (Jeff Tweedy proclaimed this his favorite place to play), but also a great selection of beer and a non pretentious attitude. Hipster haven- yes, but without any exclusion. Everyone is genuinely nice and loves beer and music just as much as you do. Biggest bonus: their annual 2 day block party that seems smaller than it is. Great place to bike to- getting a cab is kinda tough.
Great place to see live music!
