It was a hot day when we went in and it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to go to this restaurant/bar. My friend and I stood for so long thinking a host would seat us but after a good while of having them walk right by and not even acknowledge our existence we decide to seat ourselves thinking maybe that was the proper method. While sitting down we still received no acknowledgment even though we made attempts to ask a waitress. My friend went to the bar to see if maybe this really was a self-serve restaurant and a waitress snapped at her saying that "she'll get to her but she was busy to" which didn't seem likely either. Finally, a waitress came to our table and sternly told us that "we should have waited to be seated at the podium"...we apologized but tried explaining that we saw no podium and had waited but no one would even look at us. I also want to add that there are two entrances but there is no sign directing guest to go to the other side of the building. After being there for a good while, my friend and I had the pleasure of watching several other guest use the same entrance and be ignored. They gave up after a while a would walk away. Just want to add that the entrance we used was opposite the beach where the cars park. Anyway, watch out for the much older looking host with gray hair and dressed as if she works for Hooters. She was probably the lead for that shift. She kept watching us and giving us the nastiest look. She knew of the situation and did nothing to fix it. 8/5/19 around 1:00 pm.

Great location on the beach. They are dog friendly and even have water bowls for your pup. They had live music an umbrellas if you need them. The food was good. Occasionally drinks took a bit longer to come out when the bar was backed up but it was full so that’s expected.

The stars are mostly for the ambiance ... sitting in Chicago and feeling like I'm on vacation on some tropical beach somewhere. The food was mostly bar food like but was quite tasty. Don't be in a rush. Sip your beer and bask in the sun or sit under an umbrella. You'll be back.

Everyone from the General Manager Amy to the wait staff as well as table staff through the Kitchen, this place is phenomenal! Food is great, perfect patio with options for shade or sun, dog friendly, close proximity to the beach, and everyone is so helpful.

The place is great even though they don't have any competition on the beach. The food is delicious but the drinks are a little pricey. Still, always my go to when I'm at Montrose beach.

Food was good - about what you'd expect, and a good spot for kids, but the service was not good. It took a really long time to get our food, they were out of a number of menu options (steak tacos and burger buns), and it also took a long time to get our check. The manager did take some drinks off our bill which was nice. I'd give this place one more try because the food and atmosphere make up for the service.

Arrived there to be seated with a group of friends. After trying to order a round of drinks our waitress came back 20 minutes later to tell us that they didn't have half the drinks we ordered. So we ordered different drinks in the hopes we could get them. Again they didn't have some of our drinks. We went through 5 different drinks before they had something I wanted. On top of that the food was bad. Just not a good place to go.

The Dock at Montrose Harbor is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. It's a relaxing, open, and inviting atmosphere. The food is surprisingly delicious for being a beach-side spot. Drinks are made very well in the new and improved outdoor bar. The only drawback to The Dock is the service. Not that it's bad, but this place is not a well-oiled machine, by any means. The servers definitely give it their all-- and they're surprisingly friendly with the amount of incorrect food that comes out of the kitchen. I really think this place could benefit from a more operations-focused manager or something. It just seems like the staff is constantly running from table to table with no real organization. I also think a lot of the challenges with the service relate to the fact that the kitchen was not built to handle this amount of traffic. That said, the place is a great place to relax by the water and enjoy some good food and drinks. I wish Chicago had more places like this-- definitely a far cry from Castaways-- in a good way!

If you're wanting a drink at the beach, perfect. If you want a good meal and a great time at the beach, bring your own picnic to Montrose. I may haven been there on an off night, but the service was awful. Our server got something wrong every time she came to the table; which wasn't nearly as often as she should have. Wrong beers, wrong food, 10 minutes later coming to tell me that the beer we ordered was out. The table ordered two taco plates, a blackened fish and a veggie burger with two beers and a guac app and our bill with tip was nearly $100. Honestly, I wish I wasn't in as big a hurry to leave as I was because we really ought to have examined the bill, just didn't seem worth it. Pretty disappointed since you can't beat the location and the fact that they have live music. I'm sure grabbing drinks and hanging out would have been a different story.

What a great experience at the Dock! The food is good, drinks great and the prices are fair! Oh and I almost forgot, it's on the beach! Labor day weekend in Sunday night there was a band and the atmosphere is like you're in another place than downtown Chicago!

I prefer The Dock over Oak Street and Castaway. It is a chiller and less crowded compare to the other beach restaurants. The tuna salad and grilled octopus appetizer are great. The mule drinks are a must try. Street parking is plentiful on the weekdays and and pay parking is available about a block or two away from The Dock.

The Ginger Beer is decent but it's not like the best thing you've ever drank before. Along with that, service is okay. The food itself is simply food. It's nothing special. Lacking flavor and uniqueness. Fun spot with a cool atmosphere if your hungry while chilling at Montrose Beach

Location-wise this place is great. It's right on the beach, literally. Great view and friendly service in a laid-back atmosphere. People even had their dogs with them, which is always a welcomed sight. Food is good, but the prices are pretty steep. I guess you're paying for the view and location, but $50 for two people (one beer and two drinks with dinner) is a bit much for what we got. Granted the food was good, just the prices made me balk a little.

Visited the dock after reading good reviews. Left the dock frustrated and wishing we had gotten anything else. After being seated, it took over 20 minutes for a waitress to come take our order, our appetizer came after another 20 minutes and was cold. The food took over an hour to be served and was disgusting and cold, not to mention it was about the size of a kid's meal. Our waitress checked on us 3 times the entire meal, never asking to check on our food or what the delay was. When we told her that it was cold, she seemed put off and frustrated with us. They took off half price for our entrées and nothing else, but took our card for 15 minutes to charge us. Overall it was an unacceptable experience. DO NOT GO TO THE DOCK! To be fair, the highlight of the meal was the cold beer, which was intended to be cold.

Rude bartenders. Waited forever for a drink. Finally get a seat at the bar since tables were a hour +. I see pretty good plates others are eating at the bar so after finally getting the attention of the bartender to order, I'm told no food at the bar. I have to get a table to eat. Seeing 5 others eating I am embarrassed to even stay to finish my drink. Never would go back here!

This place is amazing! If you have actually traveled, you will get that strange sort or sense you are on vacation in Florida. This joint serves excellent food with many options you'd be surprised to find in Chicago such as fresh seafood. This attachment to park facilities is right on the huge Montrose Harbor. There are jet ski rentals, volleyball courts, a dog beach, and fishing piers all within a short walk.

The food here is nothing special as it is on the beach. The great thing I found is that it is located on the beach and the music is also good at night. The positive side to this place is the ambiance and the view, but at times it may take a while to get a table.

I went here on my first date with my now girlfriend and it was superb. I made such an impression with this lowkey spot. Great food, great location, very nice waitress...the music was fun and it was just a really good overall experience for my 2nd time going...especially on a beautiful summer Friday night. My 1st time going was good too. I went with my cousin, her husband, her baby, and her best friend and it was just too cool to me. I knew I had to come back...and when I did it was even better. My advice to you is don't show up an hour before they close because you won't get a table. Everyone loves the place so they get really packed. The wait can he up to an hour and by then they close. Go during the day or maybe by 8 o'clock at the latest so you can enjoy and really soak in the experience. I will for sure keep coming here with my girlfriend and family for as long as they're open. P.S. Try their shrimp and panini! That's what my girlfriend and I had and it was fire!!!!!

Reggae Nights are the best at this spot on Thursdays. During the summer it's the place to be when you just get don't playing volleyball right there on the beach. Can get crowded at around 5 so expect to stand and if you can tolerate the host's rude manners then it's a nice corona spot on the water.

Went to lunch here the other day...sun was out but a little cool but still great outdoor dining spot. Spectacular scenery and a decent crowd for a Wed around 1 PM. Service was adequate not overly attentive or lacking. I got a 3 cheese burger and fries which I definitely enjoyed. Not the best burger ever but damn good especially since we were there for the venues lakefront location. We enjoyed our meal and our lunch get together. Thanks to The Dock

I went to The Dock to try their famous octopus; sadly it was sold out that day. Instead I order fish tacos and cider, which were good. It’s a cool place to enjoy a sunny day with music. Staff is friendly and they will try their best to make your experience better.

I've only had a chicken quesadilla, but it was excellent - the salsa was top notch to boot. My Fresh Squeezed Deschutes IPA tasted crisp and fresh as well. The music on a warm Sunday night was great, too. Made me feel like I was back in Brazil.

Overall a very decent experience. We choose this place because it was dog friendly. That was my favorite aspect. The waitress and staff were very pleasant and good at floating around. I was not crazy about the food. It was good but nothing spectacular. I got the chicken and chips and my fiance got a classic burger. The sweet potato fries were good but my fiance's fries were not. They looked like the crumbs that came from the bottom of the fryer.

Surprisingly good. The place is run by a Polish owner so if you want to taste a selection of Polish beers in a cool atmosphere right at the beach, this is the place. The food is fresh and made right there. I had a Cesar wrap.. Light but filling and hit the spot.. My friend (an Italian) had a grilled caprese and she enjoyed it a lot.

The dock has a great, chill, beach vibe. Right on the water. There are live bands playing all the time. The food was fine. The fried fish was average, and a little more expensive than you'd think, but still very reasonable. The chips and pico we're excellent. Overall, it's a great spot to relax and have a drink or two by the beach.

Good place to grab a drink before or after playing volleyball. The live music is usually fun, and the food is surprisingly good. The service is always lacking, though. The person at the host stand never seems to let the servers know when they have customers in their section, so you will usually have to hail your own server. They always seem really rushed and like to make plenty of excuses as to why no one has come to take your order yet. It makes you wonder if their servers also work at Comcast. Customer service skills seem optional.

I was extremely excited to eat here due to the last time being ruined by a sand storm. Tonight was on its way to being perfect beautiful weather and ready for good food. The food was good small portions but still worth the price. Except for adding bacon $3.00 to add bacon on everything but I was fine with it because it was upfront. However after getting chicken tacos and a sprite with two refills I was perplexed because the check seemed off. The soft drinks are $3.00 and for some reason I was charged for two. Inquiring with the waitress did not help she became super sweet and apologized. I asked why didn't you tell me to her laughing and taking my card. My friends and I began scouring the menus where there was no mention of fountain drinks being charged after 2nd refill. When I alerted the waitress she was no help and said "they really should put that in the menu". All this being said I was bummed that this happened and over $3.00. At the end of the day I was hoping our waitress would have resolved this issue but how was this not documented anywhere. I will not be going back, not because the food was bad but because this was an easy fix.

Awesome spot! Don't want to say too many good things about it because it's already crowded enough as it is! I would definitely stay away on weekend evenings, the band is really loud and they start at 7. Be prepared for horrendous bathroom facilities. They're shared with the beach bathrooms and they've always a flooded, sandy, toilet paperless mess. Hasn't stopped me from going there though :-) You can even go hang out in your bathing suit directly after the beach!

Drinks were watered down. Service was slow which happens, but there was barely anyone there, so it didn't seem justified. No entertainment due to the rain, but I'm not factoring that into my review. The experience probably would have been better if there was the live band. The bathrooms are disgusting and at the cleanliness level of a port a potty.

Our family enjoyed the terrace at least 6 times this summer. The service is excellent, all the girls are extremely nice and helpful, but you need to wait some time for the food. Which is not bad, considering you are literally on the beach, you see the sand and the lake and the time just passes by. Don't forget the 2 most important things: first: dogs are allowed and, second: every time we've been there, a different band was performing life, starting around 7 p.m. (some of them were quite good). Reminds me of Europe.

Food was good. The order we placed took over an hour to get to us. They kept saying it was coming out but did not make it out for s long time. They Took care of our bill due to some sort of mix up and food taking so long. They totally redeemed themselves by doing this and were super nice and apologetic about everything. I agree with other reviews that the drinks are pricey but I will definitely go back. Staff was nice and felt like I was on vacation sitting at the beach. Again decent food for bar/beach food

Far better beach bars to visit. (Head north!) The live music is a plus though. I take it the other people leaving 5 & 4 star reviews don't get out much. :-0

Liked the live music and the location is can't be beat. But if you're being honest with yourself the food is expensive for what it is (and is mostly average). If youre close to the stage it's impossible to carry conversation and when very busy we had a long wait to get our order in although the food did come out fast. Views and location 4 stars (you don't face the water) food 2-3 stars depending on the night.

Prices are somewhat pricey (~$20) per person, but the live music plus the great views Montrose Beach offers creates a lively, energetic atmosphere. If you have the time and the money, then you'll enjoy The Dock! Also, try the Watermelon Margarita, it's sweet and tart; delicious on a warm summer afternoon!

Location is great, too bad the service and food are awful. My wife and I were seated quickly but took almost 10 minutes for a waiter to come over and take a drink order. I asked the waiter what the Ballast Point beer was, as the menu indicated it was a rotating tap. The waiter said that it was posted in the menu. I showed him the menu and he pointed at the "Rotating Tap" noted under Ballast Point and condescendingly said that it was the "Ballast Point Rotating Tap" beer. I had to explain to him that "Rotating Tap" was not a beer. I was returned with a blank stare and the waiter asked what is a rotating tap was. I proceeded to explain to him what is was, it was clear this was the first time he had ever heard of this concept. Once we got past that, the first four beers on tap I ordered were out. My wife ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and I went with the steak tacos with chips and pico. The food came and I noticed that my pico was missing, I asked the waiter if it was coming and he told me the kitchen had ran out. No other salsa or guacamole offered to replace the pico I was paying for. The steak tacos were barely warm, dry, and flavorless. It tasted as if had been made the day before and simply warmed up for me. I also found a mosquito smashed into one of the chopped onions. The burger and fries were subpar at best. It then took over 20 minutes for our waiter to bring us the check after he had cleared away our food and drinks. I would not recommend eating here, plenty of other options nearby that provide quality food and service.

I love bar food and this place is great for the food. Great margaritas and other drinks. They have reggae nights Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I love getting a lil tipsy and dancing to the music. The fresh air feels even greater at night. Good food, good drinks. Good service.

This place is so fun to grab a drink and listen to some live music along the water. I am shocked there aren't more restaurants like this along Lake Michigan in Chicago! Had the fish tacos; they were pretty good. It's a little pricey, but you pay for the atmosphere. Can't wait for summer!

Feels like you are sitting on the beach in Miami or Clearwater Beach, Florida. The food s average and the drinks are well priced with a wide variety of options. Great spot to relax and forget you live in a big city. Parking is super easy in the metered lot or on the street.

I did not have high expectations going to a place right by the water. But this was the slowest service I’ve ever received at a restaurant and also The place is not very organized after I had waited about 30 minutes someone finally took my order and then the food took another 30 to 45 minutes in the meantime three or four people asked if we’ve been helped yet. Our waters were never refilled the whole time we were there waiting on till we got our food. Not going back to this place.

So disappointed. Went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and only had to wait 10 minutes for a table (after being told it would be a 20 minute wait.) But then no one ever came to take our order! After waiting about 15 minutes, a waitress rushed by and said someone would be with us in a moment, but that moment never came. I was prepared for a long wait for the food because it was very crowded and I guess they have a small kitchen. But it was frustrating to never even get my order in! When I complained to the manager that we had been waiting for over 15 minutes, he rolled his eyes and exclaimed "15 minutes! Someone will be with you as soon as they can." Heard that before. Walked out and wished the people waiting for a table, "Good luck." I was really looking forward to coming here, but unless it's a rainy cold day, I think I'll skip it.

This place has probably the best "seashore type" view in all Chicagoland. It really reminds me all previous vacations on the beach. Unlike the rest of lake shore places, this place is at least half of mile away from the city and lake shore drive bustle and noise and its facing only the beach, volley ball courts and Michigan EVERYBODY who is craving the ocean and moved from coast, should put this place in A MUST TO VISIT list.
