I've eaten at The Dawson twice, one for brunch and once for dinner. Both times, I've been very impressed; the food is great, pretty reasonably priced for the area and the service is excellent. The only reason I wouldn't give The Dawson five stars is noise control- this past weekend they seated our small party of three next to a huge group and it was so loud, we had to shout to each other to be heard. The Dawson could either set aside some space for large groups that aren't in the center of the dining room or put some softer surfaces on the walls/ floors to absorb some of the sound.

The service here was impeccable, probably the best service we’ve experienced since moving to Chicago (thanks, Jonathan). The ceviche was great, the ice cream (which was homemade) was delicious. The cauliflower was good but not extremely flavorful. However, this place is definitely one that will keep you coming back. It’s a great place to go for an after-work cocktail, tasty eats, and a classy yet chill ambience.

Excellent place! The food was extremely good, and the service was unrivalled. Very nice outdoor setting. Some of the best octopus I have ever had on the appetizer menu. Not chewy, perfect and tender. Be sure to try this out. Craft beer and Cocktails were the icing on the cake. Don't miss this local gem!

Jerk bartenders. Was here for a pre-wedding reception and the program said bar closed at 5:15. At 4:55 I ordered a drink and the bartender said “bar’s closed, if you have a problem, figure it out with that man” (indicating the bride’s father). I showed him the invitation and he simply said “not my problem.” Tried to BUY a drink, and he said “you need to be out of my space in 10 minutes.” (Program said we had an open bar until 5:15 and could be in the space until 6:00 pm) I understand mistakes happen and again, was more than happy to BUY a drink but the bartender was a complete jerk.

Great for drinks. Truly fantastic as a first-date spot, given the upscale-yet-not-haughty atmosphere. Cocktails are seasonal with the favorites sticking on the menu. When the weather is nice, the patio is fantastic (though it gets crowded quickly!)

This place is a tad expensive but well worth the price!! We shared the tuna appetizer and it was SUPER fresh. I had the Manhattan to drink and we also tried a large shot of the 15 year old whiskey which we both agreed warmed the insides perfectly!! I had the bone in rib eye and it was cooked perfectly. My date had the pork chops which she let me taste and they were also scrumptious!! We both would go back. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!

This place is amazing and the atmosphere is great. The staff is so accommodating and friendly. They smile all the time. The food is bomb!!! We had the duck wings, the mussels, cheesy cauliflower, and the pork chop. All of it was good. The wings and mussels were my favorite. I recommend this place. And I would come here again.

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Brunch is killer. We had the bacon flight when we were there - all that you believe it could be! The service was outstanding, very professional. The setting is very comfortable and beautiful - nice outdoor patio for warmer days.

I tried four dishes and, aside from the French fries, they were all too ambitious with underdeveloped flavor profiles and unbalanced portions. The cocktails were A+ though. Service ran from smothering to absent. Great location and beautiful room - best for a drink. Food is overpriced and not good.

I had the opportunity to experience The Dawson on a Saturday night as our dessert spot. We were greeted by a very dapper Ken who sat us in a cozy corner table. The decor is modern craftsman with harming details. This entire place oozes personality: from the oversized wooden front door to the wall lamps and the staff. Our waiter, Foo was attentive and a great sport who humored our requests for photos of him because of his epic mustache. We had all the desserts on the menu. There was the pie crust pillows filled with apple and cinnamon, cooked to perfection. The ice cream enhanced the flavor and played off the hints of cinnamon. The chocolate peanut butter concoction was perfection in presentation and taste. The outside was a hard shell of chocolate that melted as (more) hot chocolate was poured over it. The balance of peanut butter to chocolate ratio made this the perfect pairing to a cappuccino sans sugar. This is a wonderful place to go on girls night out and leave feeling pampered. Or even a romantic date night with your beau as I witnessed on my visit. I would recommend this place, especially if you’re looking for service AND quality desserts. I can’t wait to go for dinner.

The service was a little spotty and the prices were high, the food and drink you (eventually) got were well worth the wait and price. I went on a Friday evening and sat outside on the patio, which is a nice escape in the city. It took about 10 minutes before anyone came over to take our order (the water was poured for us right away, so points for that I guess). My girlfriend and I each got a cocktail and we split a can of Rose, each of which was flavorful and light. Chicken friend lobster might be the best thing on the menu.

Great service from our server. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. The Sea Bass was fantastic and so was the chorizo dip. Otherwise was a great place to have a small work get together. We sat inside as it was pretty hot out, but I will definitely be back to check out the patio!

Delicious, new American food in an open, airy backyard patio. My girlfriend and I managed to walk in for a late dinner on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Wait staff was friendly and very helpful. The scallops were absolutely phenomenal - flavorful, perfect texture, and paired excellently with the corn base. I also really enjoyed the macha duck wings. Appropriately fatty and fell right off the bone. Pro tip: make sure to eat the bread. The only thing I wasn't too impressed by was the burrata. I think the tomatoes were a bit excessive, but they did provide a delicious amount of citrus to complement the cheese. The wait staff was also kind enough to provide us with extra warm sourdough bread. Overall very satisfied with my meal, I'd be happy to come back again!

Excellent place to hang out. I came here at different occasions: happy hour with co-workers, Sunday brunches, friends hangout etc. They can reserve a small place behind the bar for small group ~10 people to hang out with good quality of food. I miss the summer time - sitting outside. Make sure you book the table. This is a popular place at west loop.

It was a very pleasant dinner. Great atmosphere. Despite a busy Saturday we were able to get seated. Very accommodating for a Vegan. Drink menu was robust and eclectic. Ordered Burgundy Glow (sweet), Desert Blossom (citrus), Rust Belt (delicious) and New Growth (a sipper) for our party. The Star was the Roasted Cauliflower with Masala sauce with a pleasant surprise crispy chickpea. Dawson salad was good for two or three people!

Delicious, cinnamon rolls are the bomb. Add the bacon flight that was awesome. Then I had the biscuits and gravy for my main course another awesome choice. do lobsters really good too but kind of small so keep that in mind.

Go there for the food, but don't get the Doggie Paddle cocktail. I feel like I paid 13 bucks for ice water. Another cocktail was better, but not amazing for the price. I don't think places should charge premium if they're going to offer weak or watery cocktails. Other than that, the appetizers were good: hummus appetizer was excellent, meatballs, cauliflower. Steak frites and mussels were also delicious. Nice atmosphere, especially the outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

This place was really great I recommend it. The ambiance was great. They had live music in the patio. I think it’s only Sunday’s but they had people walking around giving samples and they were so good. I love what I ordered. It is a bit pricey but it’s worth the try. The waiters are so attentive it’s like 10 different waiters coming by and just making sure your doing well. I loved it I would come again.

I went for the 1st time last night. My girlfriend had been previously and recommended The Dawson. I really enjoyed the Chicken-Fried Lobster, the Macha Duck Wings and fries. My girlfriend thought the Halibut was ok, a lil dry, not a lot of flavor but the reduction sauce made up for it. Will definitely go back

Well, I think I just found my favorite restaurant in Chicago so far. Food was great, I ordered the Steak-Frites VERY rare and the chef obliged (always a great sign :D ). Nice menu, definitely wish I tried the chicken fried lobster as that sounds absolutely wonderful. Good beer selection and same goes for the wine. Didn't try the cocktails but they seemed lovely. Our server was super patient and friendly. All in all, a great experience. Will definitely come back soon.

Came here for a work event where they rented out the upper floor/bar area. The restaurant has a beautiful balcony off the top level which made the whole experience even better as the weather was particularly cooperative. The whole experience came together perfectly for our group of around 15 people or so. Would highly recommend. All of the servers were very courteous & attentive to needs.

My wife and I went to get some brunch And don't get me wrong the food was good and doing a service was doing good, but later on it was getting bad we were getting Ignored she is more paying attention on the other table. And she Give us a old pie even the crust was hard that's hard and old it was and she didn't even give us silverware for it and I had to ask for it I'm very disappointed.

Matt the bartender was a true mixologist. He generously enabled me to kill off the Peat Monster. The concoctions were created with demonstrated style, skill and aplomb. The available ingredients were plentiful, fresh and the customer service was a priority, from the greeting at the hostess stand through to the assembly line of napkin rollers at a set of tables upstairs. The patio is very pleasant on a nice day.

The Dawson's in-house burger is absolutely fantastic! It is, by far, the best burger I've ever had in Chicago, or elsewhere! I came here with a large group of friends, and we had a great time! The drinks weren't too bad, just wish they had a more sweeter variety of cocktails on their menu.

We did not have a place to have brunch and while by this place we decided to stop and give it a try. It is hard to miss since it is on the corner and the fence the name of the restaurant appears. The menu is posted outside just so you know what is on the menu as well as the prices. I also found that they had a class. Once we entered thru the nice French doors, the entrance is spacious and the lady in the front desk greeted us and asked us if we had reservations. We did not, so she offered us to sit by the kitchen area and we did. Walking by the restaurant there is plenty of noises from all the patrons. Jonathan our server offered some items on the menu but I wanted to try The Dawson burger since soon I will stop eating meat for a few months. The food was good and the order was correct. Jonathan did stop by to check on us and offered drinks but it was early for me to do so but soon enough I’ll stop in the evening to give them a try. As we walked out while looking at the menu the owner presented himself and was pleasant to talk to for a minute and then we were on our way. We will stop by next time but we will make reservations first.

I absolutely recommend this place for anything, a dinner date, a first date, a friend outing. The drinks were amazing and the food was even better. I had the Spanish octopus and the fried chicken and both were so delicious I could have ordered them twice. I will say the drinks are pricey but that's what you're getting with high quality craft cocktails. I would absolutely go back here literally for the octopus alone.

My fiancée celebrated his bachelor weekend having dinner at the Dawson with 15 of his friends. Not only was the food delicious and the vibe outstanding, but staff and service went above and beyond to accommodate such a huge party. Wanted to say special thanks to Stephanie and Michael for making sure the boys had a great table on the patio, custom menu and were just so friendly and caring - honestly why this is our #1 spot in the city. Always a great experience, highly recommend.

Disappointing at best. I am surprised how mediocre The Dawson is compared to its sister restaurant The Gage. The menu is sparse, but worse the food is just okay and quite expensive. Other than the spectacular outdoor seating area, the rest of the decor is bland and uninteresting. I’ve been to The Gage many times and love it, so I decided to try out The Dawson - I certainly won’t go again.

Granted my only experience was of the upstairs event space. That being said I was very impressed with the Dawson. The staff was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The food was killer with many exotic small bites and a very great taco bar. And the space itself was well laid out and not overly packed in. With a nice, albeit small, outdoor balcony and good location I would certainly come back any time. Shout-out to between bites for their great event!

We enjoyed the Dawson Burger and Dawson salad (found it big enough to not even need protein added). The chicken fried lobster was good enough. I wouldn’t order it again though. Drinks are thoughtful and service was great. We went in the middle of Saturday afternoon and brought our toddler.

The Dawson is very mediocre in some areas & excels in others. I've had strange experiences here with that! I'll just detail my last visit though. We went for brunch during restaurant week. The menu looked incredible & I was very excited about it. Right up my alley. The first dish was an avocado toast. The description was fabulous; soft scrambled eggs, burrata cheese, roasted tomatoes, pesto.. I couldn't wait. But it was terrible. Flavorless with all those toppings! No salt at all. A pile of salad on top, literally one tomato, (which carried all the flavor) a tiny dollop of pesto & the strangest texas style white bread for an avocado toast. Super disappointing. Second course was the brussel sprout hash which was great. The potatoes & egg were quite overdone but the flavors were all there & it had salt! Completely opposite from the first dish. Third was a horchata tres leches cake & a chocolate mousse. Both were outstanding. Especially the tres leches cake. One of the best desserts I've ever had. Obviously the meal was all over the place. We weren't greeted by our server for the first 10 minutes of being seated. Service was lackluster after they finally arrived. Scarce even. I was also given a dirty cup & after pointing it out I was told it was a stain which I then proceeded to scrape off easily with my fingernail. All in all I wouldn't really recommend this place. Not sure the high rating. Location? Large space? Chicken fried lobster? I'd go back for dessert & a drink but I'd eat a meal elsewhere. The Dawson needs a lot of refining.

WOW....Great place! The decor is great...love the entrance. Met some friends last night that were visiting form out of town ....We all loved our experience. We started with the Roasted Cauliflower app and the Fried Lobster app...both were great. My friend and I shared the recommended Red Fish Tacos and the fish was AMAZING! My husband and our other friend both had the House-Made Cavatelli and they raved about it. We ended our night by sharing a piece of Banana Cream Pie...so Yummy! Did I mention my my bourbon barrel Old Fashion was to die for...We will be back for sure!

Fun brunch spot especially for St. Pats weekend! Definitely recommend the machaca and eggs + the cinnamon buns. Owner/manager was super friendly & festive too!

Today, I came here with a group of my girlfriends for brunch and was rudely “greeted” by the three hostesses. They were so cold and it started off the brunch on a bad note. They told us they had no seating yet the restaurant was 75% empty... we sat at the bar where, again, the bartenders were so rude. I am from WI and they acted like my ID was fake and treated me as if it was. I felt so humiliated. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because our waiter was nice and the food was decent. Other than that, they need to train their hostesses in hospitality and their bartenders in not treating 25+ y/o women like they’re 18.

Was taken her for an early Birthday dinner and The Dawson did not disappoint. Service was great. Drinks were "da bomb" and food was delightful. I'll be returning. And I'm especially interested to go during summer months so I can see those big doors open up. Adding this place to the list of faves.

Our waiter, Velibor was great and very attentive. I have celiacs and picked The Dawson partly because their menu has gluten free options. Velibor even made sure to tell the chef of my allergy. The frites were perfectly crispy, I could eat them everyday. Seriously, fries and an old fashion, who needs anything else! We can't wait to go back in the summer and sit on the patio.
