This busy popular sports bar and restaurant was serving specials as our group was walking past. We opted for drinks and appetizers on the way to another restaurant. The menu is extensive bar food which pairs well with the many choices of microbrews. It was a treat to enjoy several appetizers which we might have avoided if not taking the time. We were able to follow our team in a playoff college hockey game as we enjoyed the tasty apps. The wonderful weather this time of year encourages us to check out those great spots by walking as parking can be a headache around Chicago.

Covers all ages Seniors to Children. More TV monitors to cover sports and special events. Designed so every person's seating has access to at least six viewing screens. On any given day Celebrities and Athletes from our local Professional and Collegiate teams visit the State Restaurant. At the end of your visit, you leave well decorated, well run restaurant in the heart of Chicago.

Such good food. The service is great as well and the manager walks around. Texts you when your tables ready so you can go to a bar around the corner till you get a spot. Great for a Hawks game too they give you cowbells and its always a great crowd!

This place as a really great atmosphere and is great for night outs, parties, etc. They have really good burgers and their fries are amazing. I would give 5 stars but the restaurant is quite loud itself and there is an occasional train passing through. The menu was also a but unclear and a bit confusing. But overall great food at a decent price.

This place has several days when a lot of entree's are $6.99 and the beer is pretty good. Typical date nights end up being around $30 for 2 drinks and 2 entree's. Nice atmosphere and i'ts typically not insanely packed. Good place to casually go to or meet with a group.

My girlfriend and I went right after it opened. She was very disappointed in the food, as she was served cold sausages for breakfast. Another friend wanted to go, and the food got a lot better by this fairly recent point. If you dont live here, parking will be no fun. We had cheeseburgers that were pretty good I didn't go give five because of the earloer experience with the place and the websiteis awful. Did I miss something, or you didn't post the menu at all? Lots of people are not drinkers, so there needs to be specific food-only pages. To even have to say that is just insane. I'll probably end up somewhere else today because I can't see the food menu on your own website. Maybe not the best idea with an easy handful of other places to go in walking distance...?

The only thing better then their food menu is their beer selection! They have over 100 drafts from all over the US! Definitely stop by on Tuesday's for the trivia night where they have a grand in cash prizes and hundreds more in free raffle prizes! I can't say enough about this place! I LOVE STATE!

great food, good beers, nice comfy booths. I went on a Sunday for lunch and there's a ton of tables and all four of us that went loved our meals. 3 burgers and a Buffalo Chicken dip as an entree. I'll tell you - I've never received as many chips with a dip either. I didn't know how much extra chips for your dip will make a difference in your enjoyment! From what I understand, nightlife is a different thing, but I can't report on that. Weekend lunch though? Highly recommend.

Food and drink are above average, and prices are reasonable. Really it's the atmosphere here that sells the place, as you are literally surrounded by screens and other sports fans. Trivia night is pretty epic here, too.

Lots of TVs and a great beer selection keep this place from getting 1 star. The food is not very good. I ordered the organic chicken entree. I expected either whole chicken pieces, or a grilled breast. What I got was grizzly chopped pieces of chicken with nothing on it. The fries it came with were lukewarm at best. As far as I’m concerned, fries should always be hot out of the fryer. Especially when you spend $17 for a dish with nothing but some chicken and fries in it. The Prosecco my girl friend ordered was flat. The calamari was ok at best. And lastly, the waitress rounded up the bill when making change. This to me is a real no no. Either give me exact change, or round down.

When planning my birthday party, State was really good about communication and made sure that I got what I wanted. They threw in free appetizers and shots with wristband purchases, which were super affordable. Will definitely recommend them and keep them in mind for future parties.

Came here with the Indy 500 crew. We reserved a section and had wristbands for all of our guests. The service we received from Danielle and Erika was top notch. If you needed a drink they would provide you with one almost before you ordered. If you want your group to be taken care of take them to State Bar. Every Friday, everything on their menu is $5.99, which is INCREDIBLY attractive to a girl like me on a budget! Went with a big group of cheap-minded individuals like myself, and no one was disappointed with the food. I was particularly impressed by the fried calamari. The only drawback is there is a lack of drink specials, but hey, they have to make a buck some way I suppose!

One of the best places to go in Chicago. We brought a very large group of people to eat and drink and watch sports last week. Not only was the service the best I have ever received, thanks to our server Erika, the atmosphere was awesome, the food was excellent, and everything was done quickly and with a smile. The Burger Guide

State offers a number of burgers; however I can never pass up a pretzel bun. The Truffle Burger consists of Applewood smoked bacon, smoked Gouda, truffle oil, and a pretzel bun. A nice combination of rich flavor from the beef, truffle oil, and the gouda comprise the standout flavors of the burger. My beef was ordered medium and came a bit overdone. The pretzel bun complements the sweetness of the truffle and cheese, while the bacon adds a splash of saltiness to complete the combination. Overall, there may be a bit too much complexity in terms of flavors competing for the lead role in this burger, but it is very good.

We came when the place wasn't even that busy yet and it still took awhile to put our food order in and then it took awhile again for our food to come out. Blue cheese sliders - comes with 3, these were pretty good, they had a lot of flavor from the blue cheese and garlic aioli Truffle Mac n cheese - ehh, I was disappointed in this, especially since I love truffle, but it didn't have any flavor at all to be honest. I had to mix in some of the boneless wings State fries - these were good, the feta definitely gave it some flavor

Instead, your friends don't matter, unless you want to share some apps with them (which you do - they are delicious). But keep the Badger Burger (with fried cheese curd yumminess) all to yourself. Great bottled craft beers and very good food, much better than a typical sports bar. I recommend this place for sure. I do tend to stay away during Wisconsin football games. It’s a Badger Bar!! I come once a month on Tuesday for their trivia at 8pm. Get there early if you're going for trivia, it gets packed. Trivia takes a while but it's really fun and there are some fair drink deals usually. The food is a little expensive but really tasty. Last time I was there I had one of their flatbreads. It was enormous and delicious!

I really wish you could opt out of getting straws in your water here. Went for trivia night tonight, and had an absolutely horrible experience. We sat there for 20 min before anyone even came to our table. The waitress literally had to be yelled down any time we needed her. I had to find her at the end of the meal to give her our check because she disappeared again. Everything was completely understaffed and made for a really frustrating night.

I came for trivia night. Service was fast and very attentive. I appreciated that they kept bringing water to the table without being asked, the waitress stopped by frequently to see how we were doing, we tried different beers each time- the list is pretty expansive. The food was delicious. I got the Korean lettuce wraps and our table split the nachos- didn't take us very long to clean the plate! Over all great experience, trivia was good. Only draw back was the music was SO LOUD we could barely hear each other talking, felt like I was shouting at my friends all night and my ears were aching after I left from all the bass. It was a Tuesday night for trivia and I couldn't hear myself think.

Went here for trivia on Tuesday night. Our waitress, Devin, was fantastic - prompt, accurate, & friendly. Trivia was also a good time & prizes are extremely good for bar trivia. Huge cash prizes for first and second place, and hundreds of dollars worth of prizes (TVs, Kitchen appliances, etc.) raffled away. I also enjoyed the "sports book" screens to see vegas lines for games. Two opportunities for this bar, though. 1 - Drink specials are not that great for trivia night... $18 for a pitcher of 312 is pretty steep. 2 - While the draft list is extensive, there are no prices or glass sizes (e.g. pint vs. snifter) on the menu.

I've tried a few different options here and they have all been really good, the pastas, the burgers, the apps everything just really good. I definitely love the Friday special where if you buy a drink your entree is 7 bucks or something like that. It can even be a non-alcoholic drink. The buffalo pulled chicken cheese dip is absolutely amazing and they have the best quesadillas I have ever tasted.

Went to State once in 2010 and then again this week. Honestly, State might have the best TV set-up in the city. The screens aren't gigantic, but there are so many. You have a good sight line no matter where you are seated. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed the food. I'm not going to wait another 8 years to go back.

I've been coming to this restaurant for three years almost weekly. Love food and love the manager of Balkan origins but some of the waitresses can be eeeh. Once again food is phenomenal. Organic Chicken is advised. So is the tuna tartare. Know that state fries are amazing!

For a sports bar, this place is very nice. I got the Korean BBQ Tacos and they were absolutely amazing. On a relatively slow night, the service was quite slow, thus the one star deduction. Otherwise it is a great place to watch a sporting event and get dinner.

This is definitely the place to go for an afternoon sports game. Every booth has pull out flat-screen TVs. The food is pretty good, but I'll usually opt for appetizers like spinach artichoke or quesadillas and a few drinks. Most nights it is pretty packed, which isn't bad for some people.

Used to come here every Friday for lunch for their $5.99 food menu when I was living in Lincoln Park! One of my favorite places to catch any sporting games with over 100 TVs. HUGE selection of beers on draft and always a good time on the weekends. Fun, upscale atmosphere for any type of event. Definitely recommend.

Came for the st Patrick day. Love the atmosphere but terrible service on the drinks. They cheated on my drinks. I literally took 5 shots alone of patron like it was nothing, while everyone else had beer. My friends had the wrong beer and requested bottled. Another group was given bottled beers while they had at watered down drinks. I thought It was just me that felt the shots tasted a little funny like seriously I took 5 shots I should be cursing at my bf by now. Once my bf ordered shots for everyone for the group they all complained about how weak it was even to just being patron. Now I know it wasn’t me! My boyfriend recorded how they gave out bottles to other tables! At the end they forced us to pay gratuity. So disappointed because I saw this place across from homeslice and been wanting to enjoy a night at state.

This place is very different on a weekend than it is during the week. During the week it is a nice low key sports bar with great food and great trivia. On the weekends it is full of the type of crowd you'd describe using two words that start with D and B. They are obnoxious and drunk and the bar is packed.

Truffle Mac N Cheese lollipops are the best appetizer here. Reason I come. The rest of the menu is good food, nothing spectacular.

Awful... avoid this place. Empty place, waited 45min for meals... all orders came wrong, cold and no taste on a Mac & Cheese (really hard thing to do!) One of the orders came when we all finished. Terrible experience...

We love this place for it's killer wednesday food specials, dizzying beer selection, and for some freaking nice waiters! Peter is the man, and manager, John, is a really great guy. It's loud, but it's always a party in there, and if you can take the noise, it's a great place. Plus, they really take "TV's on every surface" to another level.
