I was seriously impressed by the quality of the food at Soban and enjoyed the restaurant environment. Very cozy, home aesthetic! I dined in on a busy Saturday night and received prompt, friendly service throughout my stay. They offer fewer side dishes than other Korean restaurants, which I found out later when I asked is due to the style they're emulating; "Soban" means smaller dining. Either way, I really enjoyed the few side dishes that they did offer. One was fried tofu in a delicious sweet and salty sauce, another was cucumbers in kimchi sauce (very light and crunchy), and the last was traditional kimchi. I also had the mandu appetizer, which was delicious, and miso soup. My main dish was beef bulgogi. I absolutely LOVED this dish - finished all of it! The flavor was incredible. I'm definitely dining back at Soban the next time I find myself in Evanston.

Sundubu was so filling and comforting. Service was great, and they came by to ask if I wanted more banchan. Great midweek lunch

One of their $15 'recommended' stews was literally package ramen, mixed with hot dogs and spam. Can't recommend.

Visited for today’s lunch. Had budae jjigae and my friend had yukgaejang. Both dishes were really good! One of the best Korean food I’ve ever had. The service was great and also the place was nice and cozy — definitely a place to go and have a nice get-together. So excited to have them near campus!

I go there very frequently and have my spot. My order is fixed and don't need to order it anymore as they remember it by now and just confirm if I am having the same. It's always a nice experience to go there. Try bibimbap with diet coke

Seafood pancake is good but beef bugogi is smelly and disgusting. When I mentioned that to the server, he just said oh and didn’t even apologize. Won’t go again. To Kim: After I read your response, my suggestion to the restaurant: train the other male server how to be a server, how he responded to the customer is unacceptable. Also don't put that much sugar in the bugogi !

Great new place in a cozy location. The bibimbap and kimchi were delicious and the staff was very friendly!

Korean food is pretty much everywhere.in these days but it's the greatest place to enjoy the excellent Korean foods like cooking from home kitchen - very clean & fresh. Soban is small tray-like tables, usually wooden, used in Korea for carrying food- Wikipedia

Great little Korean restaurant, just five minutes from Northwestern. Dreams do come true.

Okay place with decent service, but could improve a lot. First of all, the side dishes are way sub par compared to other Korean restaurants, seriously, two side dishes with only a few beans and a few slices of cucumber? Secondly, beware of the soup dishes, my friend and I both got a little tipsy after having them (no alcohol ordered). Perhaps they should pay attention to how much cooking wine they put into the soups. If you are into that, then go for it by all means. If you are driving or want to study afterwards, avoid.

The food here is absolutely delicious. Last time I had budae-jjigae, this delicious soup. This time I had this wonderful, sweet and spicy rabokki ramen. It is a nice, cozy restaurant which makes it great for catching up with friends or for a date night. Servers are friendly and quick to refill sides if asked. I highly recommend going if you are in the area.

Last week was the first time we came to that fine restaurant. But It is no doubt not the last. We enjoyed the evening a lot with the efficient service, with the great dishes and fine drinks and with the comfortable cost. We will surely visit there in a short time.

Went for lunch today and was hopeful, but the young waitress when informed of the over salted dish, asked what the “issue with the dish “ was and tried to explain the nature of Korean food to my Korean wife. That did not go well.

I was blown away by their fried rice - it has the perfect amount of sesame seed oil and sesame seed with the perfect texture for rice that I grew up with! They usually only have two banchans (side dishes) and did not refill them, which is little for a typical Korean sit down restaurant BUT the they change the types of banchans out and the few I have tried were just as on point as the fried rice. Waiters and waitresses are young (college students?) but have been good in my experience.

Oh yeah the food was delicious. I was looking around to see who I could thank for the awesome service. I said hello and then I was blessed with a nice meal after that and it was funny to see how surprised they were how fast I ate the food and the little Korean word for thank you on my way out. I love some of the Korean recipes and I recommend this store to anyone who wants to eat Korean food in a relaxed atmosphere

When my wife and I entered the restaurant, there was warm greetings and were able to get a good spot right away. Customer service was at its best and the orders didn’t take long. The best part was the food ofcourse. You should try their spicy pork bulgogi and kimchi fried rice. We couldn’t get enough, we decided to order another one of the spicy beef bulgogi to bring home. Prices were fair too:)

I had the seafood kalgooksu because it was recommended on their menu, but it had very few things in it - a few pieces of carrots and zucchinis (less than 10 thin strips combined), one shrimp, and two mussels. There really wasn't enough kalgooksu in this dish to call it a kalgooksu. A better name for the dish would be Seafood Broth with a Hint of Kalgooksu. If their recommended dish was this disappointing, I would not like to try any of their other dishes.

This place has wonderful Korean food. But the service is toooooooooo slow and the waiters there are obviously not experienced in serving. It costs me 20 minutes to get the menu and 30 minutes to get the food. It is significantly understaffed now. Wish the place can be better.
