This Restaurant belongs to the category of Thai restaurant.
I saw the sign on their door that said "Best Thai" and naturally, it attracted us! I love Thai food so we gave it a try. I love how it was underground! It's a cute, simple place. Nothing fancy. The food wasn't that good. It was unseasoned and just did not taste good. I was disappointed. I expected a little heat or spice but it was bland! Even their dumplings! Kind of disappointing from a place that's so highly rated. Oh well.
Silver Spoon Thai restaurant is in the basement, inexpensive and service is good. The food is pretty good not great, but considering the price, it’s absolutely fine. We all three enjoyed our meals. Would I go back? If was right near there probably. Would I seek it out? Probably not.
I've visited this place by Google suggestion. It was fine. Good Thai place. Unfortunately it was not so hot spicy as expected, comparing to other Thai places I'd visited before.
Excellent food!! The Thai iced tea was the best I've ever had. The red curry was extremely flavorful. The curry fried rice was amazing!! As you can tell from the picture we finished everything. Excellent place for vegetarians.
Low key atmosphere in the heart of downtown. Family run business; great food, the most delicious iced tea, and very well portioned entrees perfect for 2 or for a small family dinner! Limited seating but worth any wait time!
Just passed through Town on a visit from Canada, Ordered Pepper steak and chicken Pad thai to go, Our Bus was parked directly opposite to this establishment, and decided to try it out! Food was Mediocre at best! I was truly disapointed being Asian! I have tasted better food at mall Kiosk's, Pepper steak was watery, and the meat was a few small Shreds of beef ,white in color. Pad thai was also Spartan in meat and ALL noodles, very Dry. Maybe these two dishes do not reflect the Quality of the whole entire menu.....BUT it did for me.......
I've been coming here for a good few years and I have yet to have anything less than a great experience. The service is great and the food is consistently good (the panang curry is fantastic). I drag all of my friends here when I'm in town, regardless of their meal preferences. If I'm in the city, I go to Silver Spoon before I leave, no exceptions.
I love this place. Whether it is takeout or dine-in the food has always been good. They have a good selection of all Types of Thai foods. The soups are some of my favorite in the city
Just okay food, then was charged much higher than what the menu said and the waitress didn’t say anything. We were in a group of 6, but there was no indication of added gratuity and the waitress wasn’t able to answer why everyone in our group was overcharged. Frustrating for sure and the small meal wasn’t worth the price and trouble it ended up costing.
They have the crispy noodles that I love!
Best Thai food in downtown. Great customer service. Definitely coming back for more food.
BBQ pork over rice
Really good Thai food for a modest price
Food is good. Service is slow but then the wait is worth for that food.
Food took over an hour to come out...
The food is delicious in this Thai restaurant. Keep on the good job. Very well located as well
We Are new to the neighborhood and went online to look for Thai restaurants around I could deliver. Silverspoon came up in the results and we decided to order from them from their website. Our order came over two hours after we ordered even despite contacting the restaurant via the phone. Sadly the food was just mediocre. There was not much flavor let alone space in any of the dishes. We will not be ordering from this restaurant again.
The food here was delicious. So much so did not even bother with a picture of our food. Service was extraordinarily fast. Food came out fast and piping hot. We will definitely have to stop here again when we are in the area. Authentic, delicious, fast plus byob what else can you ask for
We stepped in and sat down and waited. We're given menus and waited. 3 couples and 1 gentleman were the only ones in restaurant. A couple came in and sat down and were actually waited on before us and also orders taken. We finally were able to order. We both ordered diet coke, one without ice. They deliver in a can so don't expect any refills as they charge even more. We ordered a chicken rice soup and 10 minutes egg rolls to start. We watched the other couple that sat down after us enjoying their meal while we were ordering. That's how long this was taking. We ordered red curry entree and a beef entree. Portion sizes were small considering other restaurants. The red curry is listed as bei g spicey, NOT. The red curry came in a bowl like a soup and was so bland it was like eating milk. Mini egg rolls were not bad. Chicken rice soup wasn't bad. Both entrees were lacking in Thai flavor. The place is also quite filthy. They have tiles coming up on the restaurant floor and a badly fix job of other tiles. Another couple were also complaining about the food while were eating. There is way to many restaurants close to this one and way better Thai than this one. I do not recommend this restaurant as a place to even try. Don't waste your money. Go to some of the other establishments and spend your good hard earned money. Worst meal I have had in years. She also wouldn't give me a breakdown of how she came up with the price.
A hidden gem! Food is delicious with Big portion and reasonable price. Very Nice cozy ambience with wooden wall just like traditional thai house! Restaurant is clean. Excellent service. And located in a Very convenience location, A block a way from magnificent mile (behind Zara, next to thai embassy. ) We order chicken satay , fried chicken, Larb duck, Hor mok, thai’s sausage, and chicken stir fried with Basil. All taste authentic. Bottom line : highly recommended !
Great Thai food! Try the calamari
Good Thai food and staff are friendly
Food it's good, not a WOW, but good.
Great price and good taste, But poor customer services. Gave me a warning to place an order one hour before for delivery when it is not even dinner time or lunch time. Regardless, don't ever talk to the customer like that.
Good Thai. A little noisy group downstairs.
Excellent food with fast and courteous service. At first I was a little skeptical regarding the store front...had to go down a few steps below street level entering the restaurant. But the food was fantastic and the prices were great...best green curry I've had.
Such a gem to find in the big city! The red curry with tofu was beyond delicious with an order of basil fried rice, perfectly prepared!! Have been here on more than one occasion and the service and food is always excellent! Certainly one of the best Thai restaurants to find!!
Cozy place and good food.
Everyone is nice and sweet
Food was amazing. A hidden treasure I would recommend to anyone
Great place! Very tasty thai food
Great service and the food is amazing! Definitely a great hole in the wall spot.
The service was slow even at one of the quieter hours. The food was great, but the Thai tea was way too strong.
Food was okay, but I definitely would not order from here again. The Pad Thai was quite bland. The Panang curry tasted as if it was only peanut sauce and the portion was very small, and there was no sweetness as there should be, which I found very disappointing. I had gotten take out, and the container that the curry came in was a fair size, but it was only half full.
Amazing flavors and extremely well priced. I ordered the Pad Talay #510 and it tasted amazing. One of the top Thai seafood dishes I have had. The service is very quick as well. I will definitely make this a must-stop when coming to visit Chicago again.
Great food! I'm from Singapore and have been trying to find a good pad thai in the US for so long and this is the first one I've had that meets my standards.
This place was suggested to me as the best Thai food in the neighborhood I was in at the time and it didn't disappoint. Although the spring rolls were a little different, they were still full of flavor. The Tom Yum vegetable soup was delicious ànd the Spicy crispy Basil noodle were amazing!!! I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Chicago.
Great Thai food and reasonable prices. Very fast service. It's tucked away at the garden level but definitely worth repeat visits.
Great service, delicious authentic Thai food! Loved the baby egg rolls as a starter along with the egg salad. The main course, Red Chicken Curry was phenomenal! Will definitely be back!
The food was good but my curry sauce/flavor was not very strong. It tasted more like a peanut sauce than anything else. The tofu was cooked well but the dish had zero vegetables it was just tofu and noodles. Also, the crispy noodles were only crispy on the edges and still gooey in the center. It was BYOB which is nice but I would recommend asking questions about the dishes before ordering.
Great service, delicious food. Thanks for a great meal on my Birthday weekend!!!
Amazing food! Try the pineapple fried rice! Friendly staff and it has the hole in the wall feel so you definitely know it's going to have good food. Authentic thai food with plenty of options.
Not big into Thai food but this place was great!
Really good food in casual setting.
I've only been here once while visiting town for a conference. I asked for the drunken noodles, which I wanted spicy, and they were pretty good. I was disappointed a bit because they definitely served them mild. Don't know if they messed up the order or gave me American spicy i.e. not spicy at all. I'd suggest making the staff know that you legitimately want some spicy food if that's what you really want. Just make sure that if you're in a big party that you either make sure they can divvy up your bill when you order or bring cash. We were with a big party (three families) and it took awhile for them to figure out who ordered what when it came time to pay the tab.
As someone who loves Thai food, I finally found a place in River North that meets expectations. While the place is a little casual and the service is a little off, the food is authentic nonetheless.
I had pad Thai for dinner last night. It was my first time to try it. I love it
Delicious food for good prices, and a wonderful staff.
Very nice waiting staff. My pad see eiw was okay and usual. Decent prices especially in this location.
Probably my favorite Thai place in the city and I eat a LOT of Thai. I knew it would be special when I saw it was not only in a basement and next door to the Thai Embassy. To succeed there you know it’s gotta be special and it is.
Visiting Chicago, we were looking for good Thai food. You can expect American Thai food to be a bit more sweet and salty and less sour and spicy. However, the food was so sweet it was basically inedible. Happy with the kind, happy service but very unhappy with the food.
This little place is so delicious, the papaya salad and crispy curry noodles are amazing!
To speak on non-food items, our waiter was really nice, we had a window seat with a decent view, and I really liked the decor throughout the restaurant, which gave it a cool mix of traditional and modern.
Great, fast service! Well spiced and very flavorful dishes! Also a huge variety to choose from. HIGHLY recommend
Great prices good food
great thai food, it has to be since it is next to the Thai Cousulate.
Very busy on a Friday night but understaffed so had to wait a long time to get our order in. The taste of our food was very bad. We ordered chicken cashew and two appetizers that were really basic and didn’t taste good. We did get a refund on one dish stating it was bad and we didn’t eat it. Will not go back.
I was referred here by the nearby T-Mobile store and was not disappointed! They recommended a great dish with chicken, broccoli and peanut sauce. You can always tell a place is great when it's small and at mealtime fills to overflowing! Will be back next time I'm in town.
Good food, no wait, attentive service, and good prices
Authentic Thai restaurant in the basement. Food is tasteful and reasonable priced. Very friendly staff :) Would come back here next when I'm in Chicago
We got carry out. They didn't give us one of the dishes we ordered and paid for. One of the other dishes we ordered was beef green curry - they gave us chicken. Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice was bland. The Northern Thai sausage was so spicy, it was inedible (and I'm from Asia so I'm used to spicy food!). Disappointed. We didn't bother going back to ask for the dish they missed since we didn't rate the ones we did receive.
Excellent Thai food near the consulate's office. Super taste and very reasonably priced for Chicago Thai restaurant!!!
Delicious Kao Sou and northern Thai sausage!
Decent food Tom Khai soup is good
This is a lovely Thai restaurant. Visiting around this time of winter (late December) has become somewhat of an annual tradition. Nothing like hot and spicy food to warm you up in cold winter weather! They serve a variety of delectable dishes. I would warn that the place may have a bit of a smell to it at times, something pungent from the spices, but don't mind it. The food tastes delicious! Also, value is top-notch. More than worth the price!
Consistent great Thai food. Extremely affordable. Best spot in the neighborhood! Very clean and friendly service.
I recommend the pad Thai! Wish there was a better price for brown rice substitution over white rice on plates that serve it.
Great prices and good food in a small quaint setting.
Low key atmosphere in the heart of downtown. Great food, the most delicious iced tea, and very well portioned entrees perfect for 2 or for a small family dinner! Limited seating but worth any wait time!
Food was great, the service was horrible. The red curry was flavorful and the vegetable egg rolls were huge!
Food was very oily and bland.
Authentic affordable friendly Thai place in town. I was recommended by a picky Thai and it is really really good. Will be back.
I went in a little bit before 4pm and was promptly seated. I ordered the Silver Sampler (3 of everything listed in it) and the beef Pad Thai. Both were delicious and the service and staff were prompt.
I love this place hidden in a basement. The food is delicious authentic Thai. The lunch menu is inexpensive. The service is fast, professional and friendly. I love the pad Thai, the spicy basil leaves, and the Thai curry. The restaurant is small, and you may have to wait - definitely worth it!
Food was pretty good. The place could be decorated better to show off more Thai culture, especially being next door to the consulate. The bathrooms were not clean. The menu is large. The pad thai and chicken satay are great.
The atmosphere isdingy but the food is pretty good along with the prices. Curry is my go to
Tasty and varied Thai cuisine, and good for takeout too! The spicy level can get seriously extreme, so request heat at your own risk! Great food though, strongly recommend it.
Great food, great service. Price is totally fair, $37 for two.
Its just ok
Lovely food. Nice ambiance. Courtesy staff.
Really delicious
Very friendly and quick service. The Pad Thai and the red curry were delicious! We would definitely come back.
Excellent service. Good prices. Nice atmoshpere. I liked the service. The beef was well cooked. The portions we're good. The fried rolls were worth it
Great food, good prices and sweet service.
Really good pad Thai. I know - Branch out, white boy. But still. It's good.
Good food at a good price. The staff was nice and attentive.
Fantastic Thai but you can over indulge - excellent Pad Thai
Tasty food, good prices and friendly service.
Small and cozy restaurant with reasonable priced menu and tasty!
Best pad thai I’ve ever had and the people were so nice!
The portions are huge and so reasonably priced. The pot stickers/gyoza are perfect. Never crowded, always satisfying. And BYOB!
There is a reason this place has one dollar sign. Its worthless. I love thai food and there was nothing here to love. Food tastes like bland dirt. Dont bother with this place.
Good food but small portion
Ordered for delivery. Food took over 90 minutes to arrive and was cold. Even worse, the driver marked the order as delivered at around an hour. Food was average at best. Chicken felt like leftover bits instead of meat. The order was correct at least.
Service is friendly and the food satisfied a Thai food craving, but in the grand scheme of things fell short on necessary flavor and intensity.
If the human body could survive on Crab Rangoon I would never leave the Silver Spoon. They were the perfect flavor, texture, and size. Everyone just as good or better then the last. I also ordered the Thai Noodle Soup which I recommend. The beef and noodles were delicious and the broth unique, unlike anything I've had before. This this tiny basement restaurant is great for smaller groups or carryout/delivery. I can't wait to come back.
Great food, friendly service, good price and no waiting time to get in. Pad Thai is fabulous.
Reslly nice food. Pad thai was amazing
A hidden gem in downtown Chicago! Their prices are very affordable for the area, and the quality of the food is amazing. Large menu with quick service.
Small little restaurant with excellent food! Stopped for lunch, our second time. Great service, we had no leftovers, delicious!
Very polite and friendly !!! Good nam tok
TLDR; subpar service offset by the best black pepper spice ever tasted on beef. Summary: Had papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, black pepper beef, sticky rice, and iced Thai teas. Came here at about 6 PM on a Saturday with a Thai companion. Companion did the ordering in Thai. Food was authentic, but portions were some of the smallest from any Thai establishment experienced, with the soup having little substance, the rice being dry, and the salad plain. The black pepper on the beef really did it, though. Don't know what was used - would have it again anytime! The service was noticeably absent. Long times to order, receive food (other tables that ordered after were being served first), lacking drink refills, and having to go up to the wait staff to get the ticket (the table next to ours grabbed the same staff member who brought our ticket to get theirs). + Authentic food + Best beef spice + Price - Service - Proportions - Time - Seating / Facilities
Spicy. Fresh veg and decent meat. Quick service.
Decent food for the price. Its in a basement so not the best ambience. Good place for delivery.
Great food for the price. Ordered Udon seafood soup, the broth was awesome. Spicy Crazy Noodles was delicious too. Will definitely visit again.
Very delicious food, serve fast with friendly service. Thai noodles and Yentafour are the best!!
It's just not the Thai food I know I love. Great service though
Amazing
Terrible! Went there to enjoy dinner only to find out that the waitress plays with the numbers on the check. $8.95 turns into $12, this is not okay. Sales tax is sales tax and you don’t choose yours. DO NOT EAT THERE!
Absolutely delicious and value for money! Love this place :)
One of the best Thai restaurants in my book! You won't be disappointed by anything on the menu. I try to avoid busy times, as it's a smaller space. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is very friendly.
Great Thai food! Their iced Thai coffee was delicious too!
I found this restaurant on accident and it rocked my world! A gem amongst the busy chains in the city, great prices and wonderful food. The intimate atmosphere helps give this a small home-y kitchen feel. Highly recommend!
Best Thai food I have found living in Chicago. Red Curry is phenomenal and plenty of vegetarian friendly options. Excellent food and service and prices are fantastic ~$10-12 for a curry is great in the city and it is filling.
This was the best meal we had on our two week US holiday. Som tam, red curry, spicy fat rice noodles all delicious. The mild chicken curry was much enjoyed by our little girls too. First class, friendly and excellent value.
The food and service are always great. The lunch special is highly recommended.
Nice, tucked away Thai restaurant serving all of the familiar Thai dishes. We go there because they are very friendly with my 4-year-old daughter. They gave her some candy bars for her birthday. And the lunch time prices during the week are really cheap for a downtown location.
Just an "off" day I suppose...
The food was tasty, but a bit underwhelming. There was also a bit of confusion about the bill that went unresolved.
It's a good lunch spot for those who work around here. Food was good and service was fast.
Food was really good. It truly is a hidden spot! Go if you want some good food at a nice price.
Food was delicious and really great and also not expensive. Even though the service was absolutely horrible. We were waiting 30min for our checks and after I asked twice and bring back out credit cards to the front they didn’t even do it and did a table with 8 people before us. That made everything worse !
The food was delicious, and priced great! Our hotel was around the corner and we ate here twice. The papaya salad, Tom kha, and beef pad see eww was delicious l, and our plates went back empty. Fast service, with patio and indoor, underground seating. Mom and pop vibe.
I ordered pepper steak and noodle soup. Upon ordering I requested to have several items excluded from my meal(I.e mushrooms chestnuts....) . When my food was ready the cashier went to bag it and noticed it still had chestnuts in it. She proceeded to take my food to the kitchen and pick the nuts out with a spoon and unwashed or gloves hands. The noodles in my soup were not throughly cooked and soup was extremely bland. The serving size was terrible for the price. The customer service however was okay (8/10).
Nice casual BYOB place. Service is friendly and fast. Standard thai dishes are flavorful and servings are generous.
Delicious Thai Food in Chicago! The wonton soup was fabulous. Pad Thai and pad see ew were also fantastic. Quality stuff. Nice quaint, low-key place with friendly staff.
My concierge at the fancy hotel was reluctant to recommend this place because it's a hole in the wall. I love it. Great food. Huge portions. Reasonably priced. Very helpful staff. If you are within a couple of miles of this place I recommend it. Much better than the fancy Siam place downtown is known for.
Favorite take-out Thai place. Fast service (20 minutes max) and amazing food. Get the basil chicken and the vegetable rolls!
Tasty classic Thai dishes at a cheap price
Had the catfish custard and lard na. Both were excellent. Highly recommend their food.
Great service and very friendly staff but some of the dishes could/should be improved. The Tum Yum soup had a way too pronounced lemon grass taste and the Spicy Basil Leaves was way too salty (maybe a kitchen error). The Sweet & Sour Mango and Chicken Cashew Chicken were good and simple.
Very nice and cheap too
Great noodle dishes, and killer $9 lunch specials. Spicy Crazy Noodles are always a solid choice if you're into hot/spicy food. Be warned: Jalapeno is a vegetable in this dish, not merely a seasoning. Tiny little garden level hole-in-the-wall is immediately next door tot he Thai consulate, so it's safe to assume that they know what they're doing.
Small Thai restaurant. A favorite of locals. Great curries.
We visited this restaurant while in Chicago for 4th of July weekend. The Pad Thai, Mini Egg rolls, and mango rice were all excellent. The service was fast, attentive and very kind ( even with our 2 young children in tow. I would recommend this to locals and tourists.
Good food and reasonable prices. Pad thai noodles a bit mushy and over cooked but other dishes fine. Staff extremely friendly. This comes highly rated in the tourist mags or online. It was nothing fancy as far as décor or atmosphere and is more of a lunch or quick dinner experience. Food is better than average "quick" Thai for the price. We would be regulars if we lived there as I like this type of place. Easy on the wallet, friendly, relaxed, decent food.
Delicious food! Tastes exactly like in Thailand. Highly recommend this place
Delicious and friendly!!
Fantastic food. I had the vegetable noodles and tofu soup and they bother we’re phenomenal. Don’t hesitate when ordering front this place!! You won’t be disappointed. Fresh vegetables and tasty pasta made this meal great.
Great find! Tucked away beneath the city just a block off the mag mile, this place has great lunch options at reasonable prices. Try the crab rangoons!
The food is very gucci famsquad.
Such a great little gem next to the Thai consulate. Really well priced Thai food. This is my default take out dinner for late work nights.
Great food. Unfortunately understaffed and therefore, things took a while and not everyone got their food together. Still, very good and definitely worth a visit.
Love Thai food. Basil fried rice and panag curry my favorite
Delicious food at an inexpensive process in an expensive area. Very nice staff and food was made quickly.
Much better options nearby. Will do in a pinch but you'd have to really hold your nose to eat the spring rolls doused in plum sauce or the green curry. Friendly if inefficient service.
Pot sticks are amazing. Fast service. Love the lemonade. Amazing pad thai
The food here is average at best. I'd choose somewhere else next time.
Noisy but affordable and tasty food
Prices good for the neighborhood but food and service is average.
It was extremely fast and very delicious. The price is pretty good for the area as well. I got it to go and made two meals out of it.
Really tasty food. Good quality food close to Michigan Avenue, that's unusual. I am sure, we will come back.
Could eat here every day of my life. The RED CURRY is sweet, spicy and savory all at the same time. I get red curry at every Thai place I go to.. and this place has the best!
I’ll admit apprehension due to Yelp’s reviews. I am glad I ignored them. I almost walked past this little place while on an adventure in Chicago. I am so glad I did not miss it. They had all the traditional fare but each dish I had provided some unique flavors and I am now a huge fan of the Thai custard that was recommended. The atmosphere is casual and cozy and the staff had smiles for every encounter. Overall this was a delightful experience and I’m leaving with a full tummy and a smile.
The food was yummy. Please try the Tom yum soup! Best I have ever had
I came here with my wife for dinner. The food was just not good. It was dripping oil and was bland. We love Thai food and were extremely disappointed.
Cute little place. Nice staff and lots of Northern Thai dishes. I really liked it. BYOB too!
A very lovely Thai place with amazing food! The food always arrives very quickly & the service is great! Definitely would recommend their curries or spicy eggplant / cashew chicken entrees.
