Was good as usual, but beware of the large cheese fries. They charge you more than what is posted. You buy a large fry and then they charge you 75 cents for a small container of cheese but the price on their board doesn't equal that math. Have they been overcharging everyone since the day they opened?

Every tourist and Chicagoan should eat here at least once. I recommend the beef combo. It gives you a giant Italian sausage and italian beef in one sandwich. On your receipt there is a survey that will give you a free large fry with any purchase upon completion.

OK. I'm giving 5 stars for the food and the general atmosphere. Bear in mind you will probably wait for your order longer than you will spend eating it. It's a pretty chaotic experience but i guess that just stands as testament to it's popularity. The food was excellent, I had 2 classic hotdogs (one won't be enough for most) and some cheese fries. Just be warned that it's a bit crazy ordering and collecting your food.

I ordered a burger and when I got it the bread was super soggy and soaked in complete grease. It was not appetizing and didn't taste good at all. The onion rings and fries were good. My brother also got a burger and it was the same. .

Neat looking place, thought it’d be a great late night place to eat. The set up is confusing and was a madhouse at 12:30am on a Saturday night. My wife had a question about a menu item and the employees were rude and not helpful. She asked what the “side pasta” which we didn’t think was a difficult question. Guess it was. Ended going to McDonalds across the street.

I just left the drive-through I was number 55 I got home my meal was horrible I did not even eat it I ordered in Italian beef combo dipped with sweet pepper and cheddar cheese the bread was not dipped and the Italian beef was deep fried shriveled and literally had a crust on it the Italian sausage was about 2 tablespoons full of smashed dry some type of meat substance smashed under the side of the sausage like I said it was not dipped so the bread was doughy it was horrible and to top it off the small fries I ordered which were extra; I only got 1/2 of a container. At this point wise I will never go back to this portillo's again!

Great food that lives up to the hype however the place is a zoo and they don’t have a very efficient order and waiting system. Lots of waiting around for your name to be called. I had to double check that everything was in my order because they missed a dessert and a shake. Would still go back for the food though.

I could see the fascination with the Chicago dog. However, the hype wasn't that worth it. The dog itself lacked the crisp snap and the bun wasn't complementing the condiments and toppings. The toppings were average at best, just be careful of the included hot peppers as there is a noticeable kick to it. Additionally the chocolate cake shake was cakey but lacked the adequate amount of liquid to make it an actually shake. If you had a spoon perhaps it'll be a more suitable tool for that drink. I'd say come for the setting as it's a very charming place for a tourist or local.

I love Portillo's! Living in Ohio means I don't get Portillo's often but everytime my husband and I come to the area to visit his family we always make a stop here to chow down. The staff is always very friendly and we get our food very fast. And of course the atmosphere is fun! Looking forward to coming back :)

Being from Texas I’ve never even considered tomatoes on a hotdog or that ketchup would be an offense. Portillo’s nails it the the best buns and diverse toppings I’ve ever tried that cake together incredibly well! The chocolate cake shake has a ton of cake in the bottom so be sure to use a spoon.

If you want a Chicago hot dog, visit Portillo's. They have a diversified menu and even a bar for drinks and a good selection of beer on draft. The atmosphere is fun. There is a counter to order food which is ready in minutes. Self seating with many options. To prevent waiting in line when ordering alcoholic drinks, there is a bar inside. There is a condiments table, but in only has ketchup. If you want mayo or mustard, there are available at the ordering counter. Very good prices and great hotdogs!!

From the NYC metro area and am not usually a hot dog guy. NY hotdogs are really different and I usually only eat 1 or 2 a year. I ate 2 in one sitting at Portillo's. Really good!

So I ordered a grilled veggie sandwich which I have ordered on several occasions and it was delicious. However, this time I was surprised when I got a croissant with lettuce and tomatoes. It was very disappointing to get this sad excuse of a sandwich.

I always thought of Portillo's as a place to get a true Chicago hot dog or a surprisingly good chopped salad. They also have another near perfect Chicago food classic: the Italian beef. With hot peppers, it is the perfect blend of hot thinly sliced beef cooked in it's own juices without the juices overwhelming the bread and making the whole thing soggy (my usual complaint). Italian beef has to be done right to be good and it is done right at Portillo's. Other non-diet friendly pleasures are the cheese fries and shakes. I personally like the strawberry shake and think the chocolate shake tastes a bit too much like chocolate syrup. The chocolate cake shake should be shared. Even as a whole meal, getting through the richness of even a regular sized chocolate cake shake is a challenge for the average person. While not the fastest place in the city for lunch, it is fast for the sheer number of people going in and out the door on a typical day. If you go during peak hours, you should be prepared to wait a bit.

I'm going to be honest. Usually I love portillo's. This visit was disappointing. They were very busy on drive-thru and we're rushing people. I ordered a half slab of rib dinner with onion rings and a large Sprite. The order came out with no onion rings and no straw for the Sprite. again I can't fault them because it was so busy and I didn't check because I felt like I had to hurry and leave to give somebody else room but like I said this one was a near-miss..

I remember liking this place a lot more than I did. There are so many other delicious hamburger and hot dog places in Chicago that are much better than here. The fries were not good, I prefer a nice crunch to my fries and these were almost soggy. The bacon cheeseburger was fine, not bad, but not great either.

Terrible service - I ordered a grilled hot dog and waited over 15 minutes for it not to be ready. I requested a refund and have made a note to NEVER visit this location (Oak Lawn) again. What’s even more disturbing is that the manager (that approved the refund and saw me standing at the register) didn’t take the time to inquire why was I asking for the refund or what was the source of my dissatisfaction. This is poor customer service as well as unacceptable.

Rarely have I sat at a clean table here. That being said, the Italian Beef here is worth the trip to the napkin stand to clean it yourself. Expect it to be busy, especially during peak hours, when it's a full-on madhouse. Try the chili dogs and chocolate shakes, too. I haven't tried the delicious-looking Chocolate Cake, though, because I don't need something else to intensely crave

Not fast, fast food. Waited 30 minutes in a line where there are 3 lines... finally get to the front of our line and our register person warns, “ I will be zigzagging between your 2 lines” The other 2 lines were not zigzagging, so of course I said something. The kind couple in the line next to us said go ahead. Finally the order, then there was further chaos trying to pick up the food. The couple with us got their order 20 minutes prior to us. It took 90 minutes in this place. Oh, they only ordered one of the 2 orders of fries, so still hungry.

It's essentially a giant food court inside. They have burgers, hot dogs, and pasta there. Got two hotdogs. The signature one was underwhelming. Nothing special in my opinion. The second one was a German style sausage which was much more tastier. Decor is fun, great place for groups and families.

I usually stop by here at twice for every Chicago trip -- once right when I land and another when I am about to head out. I have tried 4 other hot dog places in Chicago and none of them can beat Portillo's. This is a must-do in Chicago!

I have been delivering food from here for about a year now, and this is what is common at this store. Bags sitting on the counter getting cold, long lines, disorganized staff. Sometimes we wait more than 10-15 minutes for orders to be filled, checked and given to us. If you're getting cold food from this store, this is why. This bag sat on the counter for 5 minutes before another bag sat for 3 before it was finally packaged and given to me. I've never had consistent problems like this at other Portillos's stores. Management doesn't seem to care, Doordash certainly doesn't, and customers are the ones who end up with lousy food. If you get delivery, consider getting it from somewhere else.

Portillo’s Hot Dogs have always been a go to for the best hot dogs and burgers. As soon as you walk in it’s like you time travel, with all the neon lighting and old fashioned booths. The staff is always friendly and smiling, they honestly seem happy at their job plus the service is very speedy. The chocolate cakes are known to be the best around and my personal favorite the strawberry milkshake; perfect with any meal. The drive through is always at least 5 cars but still moves at a good pace, the lines here at any time of day speak for themselves. This place is the place to visit if your in town. Wish I was able to give 6 stars! The management here is phenomenal!

We also had a gentleman draw a portrait of us after we ate! That was great! We rode our bikes here, and would recommend this place if you are in the area or just want venture out!

I really wanted another one but saved room for a slice of chocolate cake. Apparently they are the number 1 fast casual restaurant in the country and you will get no argument from me.

Someone highly recommended me to try this place on a recent trip to the area. Sandwiches were very good and service was quick. I highly recommend the chocolate cake shake. It's a shake with a piece of chocolate cake blended into it. Visted here 3 times in a week before heading back home because the food was so good.

Save yourself the pain and make the extra trip to the Crestwood location. They are far better in quality and service.

They have a lighted sign by the salad bar that says orders and a sign on the other side of the salad bar that says pick-up. I stood at the side that says orders for about 5 minutes waiting to have my order taken with another customer. The staff kept walking past us while we stood under the order sign. No one said can i take your order. I stopped one of them and said is anyone taking orders for salads here. The guy behind the counter said i don't know. I asked if he could get the manager for me. Maybe she knows where i should order the salad from since she's managing the store. IF I COULD GIVE THEM A ZERO I WOULD.

We come to Chicago to eat, usually for a few days at a time. When we do, we always come to Portillo's for dipped Italian beefs, usually with mozz and hot peppers. Fries are good, but not what you come here for. Beer is good, served in a frosty goblet style pint glass. Malts are another staple. So, if you're looking to leave much happier than when you arrived, go for DIPPED Italian beef, a malt and a frosty brew. Nothing else matters. By the way, it's pretty much always busy, do try and go off hours.

Quite cozy and affordable place. Not very healthy food, I guess, but if you have a few minutes and want to eat in a cool place, you're welcome. Quite crowded, quite noisy, but, you know, in places like this you can feel a taste of life. Unfortunately, online orders are not so fast as you would like to. You should write down your name and wait, wait, wait...maybe 5-10 minutes on lunchtime. But everything else is acceptable. Have a good day!

The Oak Lawn Restaurant regularly usually SUPER BUSY; so, they use this as an excuse for routinely getting orders wrong - everytime. Complaining to corporate doesn't fix the the problem either. We were mailed an expired card for a free dessert or side. So, we called again, however, it's been several days and we have not received a response to our voicemail message. The best way to get them to fix their habitual lousy service is to stop buying from this restaurant!!! Why should we spend our hard earned money on them when they continually prove they don't care one bit? Hopefully, many others will do the same. No one cares until it affects them financially!!

Always a classic meal. We go to many different locations and are never disappointed. This time my Burger was super greasy and just throw together! Maybe because they were rushing for the lunch rush. Either way, it was still good.

It's tough to properly rate this. The food is always great, not a bad item on the menu. The problem is that the order you receive via the drive thru will be wrong about 80% of the time. Literally, 80 % of the time, no exaggeration. Take a few minutes to thoroughly check your order before pulling away.

Great food but customer service was horrible. Waited 20 minutes for our order. Clearly, the girl calling numbers saw me standing there and didn’t even bother to figure out why. Until we went up to find out what was going on. Our food was already prepared and has been seating on the bench for twenty minutes and no one even paid attention or realized that it was right in front of their faces because all the workers were doing was chit chat. The Italian beef sandwiches ordered were the dry sandwich with gravy on the side. They were scrumptious! So tasty they were as was the whole rack of pork ribs and Greek salad with chicken. Only thing is that you have to be patient during the dinner hour rush at abt 6:30 PM, but well worth the wait!!

Where else can you get the taste of Chicago with the best Chicago hot dogs and word has it that the chocolate cake is fantastic too. We went for the hot dogs and you will not get ketchup on it. Chicago hot dogs have a wide assortment of condiments but no ketchup. Fun to eat signature food from a city. Three lines are formed to place your order but they go really fast. Lots of seating inside so it wasn't a problem finding a table. Beverage options are beer, soda etc. Have to experience local cuisine and all the local people we talked to recommended this place for hot dogs. They were spot on with the recommendation.

Absolute staple in Chicago, serving up dogs, sandwiches, and the Italian beef. Line can be a bit long but completely worth it. They have a pretty good amount of options, but not reason to get to tricky with this, get an Italian beef and don't look back, you will not regret it. Chose toppings of sweet or hot peppers, type of cheese, and a long roll or croissant, then enjoy. Have not had the chance to do every single place around the city, but this was absolutely Delicious. Would come back without a doubt, especially since I did not get a chance to have the chocolate cake shake, which is highly regarded. If you are looking for some classic Chicago Italian beef, stop in.

Love, love, love this staple for the Chicago visitor with limited time. Stamp at least two items on your Chicago foods bingo card in one fell swoop. Can you find better versions of Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef? Certainly. But Portillo's is reliably excellent when you don't have time to play food detective. Please open one in northeast Atlanta!

Had a wonderful experience at Portillo's. I went with my brother and we enjoyed two hot dogs each. I chose to go with two classic Chicago Dogs. He chose a Chicago Dog and a Chili Dog. I thoroughly enjoyed mine as did my brother. The lines were long when we arrived, but moved extremely quickly. A great feature here is the massive selection available. You can almost literally order any kind of American food here that you could think of. It was a great stop for an inexpensive meal in Chicago that left a mark. This stop was a unique visit that gave a great view of some Chicago food and culture without requiring a reservation or large check. Next time I'm in or even passing through Chicago, I hope to be able to stop back.

I visited it on 9/25/19. Ordered a Chicago dog, a drink, and fries. The bread felt fragile and did not look attractive. Once I tasted the hot dog, I was glad I decided to eat at Portillo's. It was a delicious dog and the fries were average, but I was there to try one of their dogs for the first time. Anyone who visits Chicago should give it a try. They have burgers, sandwiches, a great variety of hot dogs, etc. The place was clean and employees were friendly, which was not common in most places I visited in Chicago. Always busy but solid and fast service per usual for Portillos. Convenient location with the beach and Michigan avenue a short distance away. Drive through is convenient but note parking is quite difficult. Especially to sit down. Red line is a short walk though. Outdoor patio is a nice spot as well outside of winter. One of the better choices in the area for great and quick food at reasonable prices. Wide menu with options for many. Even vegetarians.

Food is fine downtown. Service downtown pales in comparison to service elsewhere. Yes I know it's a busy place but the portiloes on dempster gets just as busy during the hospital lunch rush. Waiting for your food if you order there is awfully slow as well as ordering it online. Terrible processes and systems in place as well makes the waiting excruciating. Best bet to have a decent experience would be to actually pay a delivery person to sit through the poorly managed pickup counter for you. Just don't expect your food anytime soon.

It's not about the money, just the principle of it. We all can agree portillo's is tasty and well run. However, tonight, the cheese fries didn't have my cheese. No biggie. I was curious to see how it would be dealt with if I called..I literally waited 20min on hold to speak to a manager named Stephen. Normally I would have hung up. But after 7min, I just wanted to see how long they would make me wait. Over 20 minutes...and then...the holding music stopped...and then...the line was disconnected. Too funny

Portillos is a big time operation and very high volume expect long lines at the drive thru. However they are well organized and the line moves rather well. In good weather they will send people outside to take orde s while your in line. Portillos offers a great product imo the Italian beef is outstanding!

This location is horrible. You have to triple check your order as it is never correct when you receive your food. Each time I have craved a burger and went here the burger was wrong. The cheese burger with bacon comes with lettuce tomato mayo. I have gotten this burger in all ways but the correct. Today had my husband pick me up the bacon cheeseburger only to take a bite and realize there’s no BACON on the BACON cheeseburger that was ordered. They did however manage to add onion that was requestedThey’re incompetent beyond words. My advice is to patronize a more competent location.

Our order was taken by a pleasant young lady who was efficient and knowledgeable. The place was crowded, so we knew the food must be good. And it was. How difficult can it be to make and serve a good hot dog & fries with drinks? We chose a table for two by the staircase to the second floor area which was closed. All of the tables around us were occupied. The decor is old time Chicago, so we had plenty to take in visually while we waited for our food and while we ate it. It was noisier than other places, so we didn’t talk much. My husband heard our number called, and got our 3 hotdogs, large fries and drinks at the pick up area. It wasn’t a cheap dinner, but it wasn’t expensive either. Our hot dogs were good. So were the fries. Nothing was overly greasy or overcooked. My husband is a big fan, and will go out of his way to enjoy a Portillo’s hot dog at home in Tampa. Tonight he relished his plain dogs in Chicago, the birthplace of Portillo’s. I enjoyed my meal, but it didn’t overwhelm me. So if you want a good hot dog and an order of fries, with lots of Chicago ambiance, then come to Portillo’s.

I've ordered from this place many times (via doordash mostly), and the food is good. The reason for only 3 stars though is that they can't seem to get their shakes right. I've ordered chocolate shakes from them and they used to be good. Now however, the shakes taste of pure chocolate syrup. This means either the person making the shakes is either putting too much chocolate syrup in or isn't blending them enough. They've made this mistake 2 times in a row now. This location is always busy both inside & out. You always have a good chance of waiting at least 15 minutes all together just to get through the drive through. But I don't mind the wait. Because one thing that I can never get enough of from Portillos is their Italian Beef. Just something about it always has me coming back for more. Their sweet & hot peppers add a delicious touch of balance to it. Amazing. I could go for another right now as I'm typing this. Their hotdogs are pretty good as well. I discovered that you really can put cheese on anything as I dipped it into its gooey goodness. Its changed my life that now I gotta order cheese with my hot dog. Besides that their chicken tenders are cooked wonderfully & go great with the chipotle ranch sauce that they got here. Along with some of the cheese that didn't get eaten with my hotdog.

I have worked for Portillos and I can say that the one in Shorewood runs absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, the one in Oak Lawn has horrible service at certain times. When there are 15 cars someone should come outside at least to call in the orders ahead of time. There are 20 cars and we are all just waiting to get to the board. In shorewood once it got up to 7 cars we would go outside just to make sure the line kept going and the service was speedy. I do not find this place efficient. Good food as always And there was no one running the food so by the time I got to the window the food was cold ☹️ Disappointed

Ok so over the last past year and a half, I’ve been hearing about this place. I made the decision to try it out the next time I was in evergreen park. Well that was today, and oh my god. They snapped! The service was good, the food was all types of delicious, and the wait for my food wasn’t too long, only about 3-5 minutes like most fast food chains like Wendy’s or McDonald’s. Even when I walked in the food smelled delicious, I didn’t even taste the food yet and I already had something good to say about their food! Best of all, I took a survey on their website that only took like 2 minutes for a free large fry! Even the dining experience was up to par. The music wasn’t too loud, it wasn’t crowded, and the staff was friendly. I truly recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn’t tried it, because it is AMAZING! Most definitely coming back here next time I’m in the area

This restaurant came recommended by our tour guide. He said the Italian Beed sandwiches and the Chicago dogs were the best here. I agree they were good, but wholly cow the ordering and pickup process were something to behold. Once you order you are given an order number and told to move forward to a large group of people standing around waiting for someone to tell out your number. It is complete chaos! The food and atmosphere was good though. Lots of memorabilia from the area.

Today my family and I decided to try a different Portillo's location. I ordered the rib dinner (which included bread, Cole slaw and a choice of potato) the full slab for myself and my daughter to share. The ribs were very moist and tender! We ordered the fries with a cheese cup and that too was delicious. My only tip is to be mindful that of it's busy listen closely for your order number. Sometimes, it's hard to understand the number being announced so don't hesitate to ask what number they called out so that your food doesn't sit there. Ok, go and check them out!

Nostalgic and lively. Almost always busy buy wait times are very rarely "too long" avoid the drive-thru at peak business hours and maybe indulge in a chocolate cake shake (so good) never really had any of their salads or anything but i've been told they're pretty good. Very loud inside and it makes me kind of anxious. If you ever find yourself getting a little nervous the bathrooms are typically a lot quite and also very clean making them a good place to cool off for a second.

Other than that you do have a nice time. Drive thru is always packed, but they have staff there outside to take your order.

Excellent place. All their food is spot on. The Italian beef is what got me excited to go in, it did not disappoint. Every aspect is as good as the best of Chicago. Hotdogs are also top notch authentic because they're using the same ingredients that you would find places in Chicago using. It’s a great place and I’m very happy it’s in my backyard. The service is also a notch or two above friendly. This place is a gem.

Good food but they kept messing up the order. Ordered hot dog, fries, beef sandwich, drink and strawberry shortcake. The first time I picked up from counter, they didn't give me the drink. Opened up bag back at table and cake was missing too. Had to go back for that. Sigh. Maybe if they trained counter staff to slow down and process orders correctly, there'd be fewer mistakes. Large and busy (no, chaotic) with zero supervision. No manager in sight. That said, we really enjoyed the dog and sandwich.

Ordered a simple chopped salad. Best of the salads. There was one person ahead of me. Took ten minutes to get it. They were filling all the drive through orders first. I counted at least six salads made before they got to mine and the gentleman in front of me; and he was already waiting when I walked in. That's really bad!!!!!! Fantastic food, I had an italian beef with extra gravy and it was everything I wanted. They have free refills on soda and iced tea but they do not have a machine to do it yourself so you could get stuck waiting for a refill. Brought my family here and the staff was very friendly and helpful. As a tourist, this is a fantastic attraction and great place for reasonably priced food.

My family and I were in Chicago for a week and this was the absolute best meal we had (and cheapest meal!). The Chicago dogs cannot be missed and the Italian Beef is extraordinary. They also have really good fries. I missed out on the chocolate shake, but I've heard it's amazing. It's essentially a big piece of chocolate cake that they toss in a blender. How could you go wrong?

So I went to pay for my transaction (Deerfield Location) and went to use my Samsung Pay, and immediately the person who was taking my payment began to say we don't take that, I said are you sure, because a lot of people who think they don't, really do, they just don't know it (all the while I had my phone at the card reader because I'm use to being told that, and after a year of using my Samsung Pay, I know where the readers are now on just about every cash register) so it came back that it didn't read my card (which let me know it worked, because it read it, and that sometimes happens the first time around, same as when you have to swipe your card twice, but the second time(depending on their system) it goes through like a champ, as it did this time but Dan, the manager, cut off the cashier as she was tryin to tell him it went through just fine, because he was in the middle of making his point of it not working because Portillo's requires an actual card, Even though I explained it was an actual card, it was it is processed differently. When he finally finished, she handed me my receipt, I told her to have a good day and Dan was left trying to figure out what had just happened, as she moved on to the next customer. Going forward, I'm gone stick to the Skokie location!

Too chaotic for me! It was like Chuckie Cheese with hot dogs - so many little kids literally running all around with parents not even trying to stop them - it was like this is where they brought their kids to just let loose! We ended up moving to a table by the door while waiting for our food to get away from the fray. I did like that you ordered at the counter and then picked up your food. I didn't like the crunch of their Chicago hot dogs - I love Downtown Dogs in Chicago and don't remember that - though my husband and son liked theirs. Personally I wouldn't go back...

My order was wrong. I called the restaurant back and spoke with a manager who told me that I had to bring back the food and receipt. Bring back the food??? What are you all going to do? Resell it? I do not live in the area; nor the state for that matter (visiting for the holidays). She then told me they have dishonest customers so the GM requires the customer to bring back the food. I have my theory as I have visited multiple Portillo's in my time. Since this area is highly African American populated, it is assumed that the complaint of the customer is not valid, or the customer is being dishonest. What a way to let your customers know that you appreciate their business by assuming the mass population of customers which have kept you in business for more than 10 years are dishonest. Based on the other reviews, it sounds like there is an opportunity for better training and maybe you should incorporate a final quality check before you send an order out. Oh, and hairnets might not be a bad idea. Who wants to open their food after waiting in your long lines and see long strands of hair? Disgusting! I will make a personal visit to speak with this genius of a GM to understand his/her philosophy on customer service. UNBELIEVABLE.

A tourist attraction for Chicago style fast food. They have a couple of locations. very big organized w/ a lot of flashing Neon Lights prepared for big volumes of visitors but this was the biggest let down in taste I have encountered in the city. I tried 2 Flagship sandwiches1-the Chicago style hot dog: it had a tough shell around it that I never tasted in any hot dog in my life so that gets a zero from me,2- Italian beef which is the must try in Italian restaurants in Chicago was a mush of shredded beef, does not have the the look of texture of thinly sliced roast beef. Come and try other things on the menu that would be my advice.

The Polish sausage was one of the tastiest I've ever eaten ...and the 'world famous' chocolate cake really should get that award if it doesn't already. One of the best places in Chicago to eat and something you shouldn't miss. Wish we had had more time to go back again!

We love Portillo's, what else can I say!? Love their Italian beef, chopped salads, cheeseburgers with bacon. No meal is complete without an order of cheese fries and onion rings and top it all off with one of their delicious shakes or an ice cold coke. Don't forget to try my personal favorite, their strawberry shortcake or their legendary chocolate cake. The ice cream sundaes are my kids favorite. We used to come every Friday after school for ice cream, I think we need to start that tradition again.

I had a hankering for a greasy burger and Portillo's did not disappoint. May as well get the large fries too. Top it off with a chocolate cake shake and you are "in like Flynn"! My wife always gets the "healthier" alternative of a salad, it's nice that you do have that option, albiet completely opposite extremes. I'm now going to be driving home... vision going black from the oncoming diabetic coma... Always a fun time. There is always that Portillo's festive atmosphere and the place is large enough to feed half a stadium. I've yet to try the ribs, that will be my next endeavor there. Couldn't decide between the Portillo's chocolate cake or the eclaire cake (the first one has twice the calories).

Fairly typical experience except minus 1 star for: SLOW service, just barely warm fries, and a chocolate shake that only had 1 pump of chocolate in it, if that. It's delicious, it's iconic, it's completely necessary for anyone near the Chicago area whether they're visiting or residing. I just don't understand WHY you have to ask for peppers on the Italian beef. Giardiniera and peppers are Chicago things, right? I feel like that should be an opt out rather than opt in, since an Italian beef becomes a plain beef sandwich without Giardiniera.

Why even bother visiting it? Hot dogs were small to fit the price and while they had their own little touch, Circle K makes just better, bigger hot dogs in my country. Took my kids for a trip to legoland and made a stop here. This was great choice. My son says that Portillos is favorite food now. Will be back soon.

How is this as good as it is? I don't understand and I don't care. Even if you're normally picky, get the original version of the hot dog! Don't fuss with it! It's perfect and everything works together in artery-clogging harmony. The fries are always fresh too. One of my favorite Chicago traditions!

Had Italian beef for the first time. It was tasty. The bread was a little soggy, but a native told me you should specify the dip level to have dry bread.

You can never go wrong with Portillos. Given that this is an Illinois franchise, you can get this food anywhere. Amazing food, and the run like a Swiss watch. Quality is key, and they get food out quickly. Combo sandwich, or a burger with cheese fries is my go to here. I've tried it all, and em never disappointed. Plan accordingly, because the lunch rush comes quick. That says a lot about a place if you ask me. Definitely a stop to make if you are in the Chicago Land area

Baked spaghetti is fantastic. Italian beef and hot dogs are amazing. A must if you're visiting from out of town. I'm from Chicago but I go to school out of state and I stop by everytime I come home from school!

Yellow mustard, neon green pickle relish, onion, tomato, pickled giardiniera peppers, a dill pickle spear, and a dash of celery salt make a hot dog come from Chicago. NO KETCHUP! The most important ingredient, however, is the Vienna Beef hot dog, because it is all about the snap of the dog. At Portillo's you get authentic, delicious hot dogs. Wash it down with a beer, and you have a meal.

This place is definitely a Chicago classic! I ordered the big beef sandwich with a sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese, large fries and a tamale. What an awesome lunch!!!

Always some of the best food in Chicago. No matter what you get though, You HAVE to get a Chocolate Cake Shake. It's a must in Chicago like Chicago style hot dogs and chicago style pizza.

I normally don't take out Portillos from this location and there is a fair and valid reason why. My biggest concern is having my order correct. I ordered over the phone and was repeated my order correctly. I went to the store and picked up the order and I should have throughly checked my bag. After arriving home with food for four, while handing out individual orders many items were missing. I checked the receipt and the bag receipts. I was missing everything relating to the ranch salad. The bacon cheeseburger I ordered did not have any bacon. The cheese fries that I also paid for were nonexistent here. I called the number to give warning I was getting ready to drive back their way, and the number goes to customer service, where I was placed on hold. The call exceeded ten minutes. By fifteen, I was back at the store and hung up. I shared my dilemma with the worker and they handed me my salads bag. I notified them of the other errors and they fixed them immediately. My mistake, again, was not checking the bag a second time, as the ranch salad had no ranch. I feel embarrassed and ashamed that I repeatedly visit this location. I will have to ignore that this location exists. I keep giving this location chances, and I am exhausted from continually being disappointed in so many aspects of this store. The food is great when it is exactly as ordered. By the time one gets home after multiple trips, the food is cold and only unenjoyable.

I have eaten here twice. Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwich. It was ok, not outstanding. I like the atmosphere though. I’d recommend it. Prices are a bit high but not bad.

The toppings make it. Man, it's good stuff. I had some dogs and half of a steak something or other that was incredibly moist. It was incredibly busy, so try going not during peak times. The drive through was not fast at all. 4 dogs, 1 notPhillysteak guy, some fries, something like 25 bucks.

Portillo's has the best burgers of food chains of similar price, in addition to their famous hot dogs. This specific location maintains the traditional architecture and interior design with themes from the early 1900s, especially the old style gangsters. These two elements make for an enjoyable place to have a burger, a hot dog or even a pasta (as Barnelli's is located in the same food court).

Only did the one star so I could leave this review. Food was good. However, when we got up to leave, my wife noticed her purse was open and wallet was missing. Manager pulled video footage and showed 2 gentlemen without any food sit down behind us and watched it happen. Stressful and sad. Was visiting from Boston and was recommended by friend. They have security on-site. But, he was sitting behind a table as soon as you walk in and not actively patrolling the premises. Visitors beware. Posting this in hopes this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

This hot dog was incredible. As someone who is just a ketchup and onion guy, this hot dog was outrageous. I had to take off the pickle because it was just too much. The actual hot dog was amazing. It had the natural casing, so you get a great crunch. The neon green relish, mustard, tomato combo was an awesome tangy contrast to the really meaty flavor from the actual dog. The bun was nice and steamed so it just melded everything together in a nice way. While I didn’t get a salad, the salad bar looked clean and stocked with fresh veggies so I wouldn’t hate it if someone brought me a salad. The whole era sets are cool, but I also don’t think more seating would be a better move. Awesome place and food here though!

The drive thru closes at 1am why did I arrive around 12:30am no one answered the phone or take my order. The manager in charged either closed early or didn't care if they had people waiting outside. ( Camille) was her name.

Amazing. There are a bunch of things here that are Chicago specialties that I've never heard of and the decor of the place is like a TGI Friday's, but with actual Chi-town artifacts. If you're visiting the city this is a can't miss. Try the Italian beef, you won't be disappointed!

The Italian beef sandwich with Italian sausage and peppers is delicious, what's even better than that is the delicious lemon cake shake. In Canada we dont have cake shakes so this was a pretty special moment for myself and my friend. The thickness, texture and flavour were perfect. This is definitely a place I'd visit again when I come back to Chicago.
