This Restaurant belongs to the category of American restaurant.
We traveled with extended family for lunch and were in the area north of Michigan Avenue. We used valet parking from the bar next door. Our food was generally good, and we would come again. Lunch menu items were pricey, in general, but on par with cost of meals in the greater Chicago downtown area. We had 2 appetizers, hummus place and Lux Pretzels. They were 13 and 8.50 respectively. The hummus was good but very garlic forward and the kids (teens and tweens) were not big fans. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. Kids had the very yummy french toast ($12), although the portion was large and grilled cheese ($11) (again the teen remarked it was too much food but very very good).
Cobb salad was very good, however I ordered it with the dressing on the side and it came doused in dressing. They offered to make a new one, but I didn't want to waste a whole salad. The bartender is nice and very attractive.
Great service and food. We especially liked the salmon and buttermilk fried Chicken.
Very nice and busy place to dine in. Excellent food, both in taste and size (exactly good enough for me). Large drink Menu, however, very fine collection.
I’ve come for lunch a couple of times. The food is just ok. However on a warm afternoon, lunch on the outside “patio” is nice
The food and the drinks were way better than the place next door, we came at the end of the day and the service was a bit slow, but that could have been an exception. Will try again.
Great food, excellent service, and a very lively atmosphere.
Great place to eat good food with good service!
Nice place
went here with my boyfriend for an anniversary dinner, the tables are all crammed in very tight. We waiting a long time for our food to come, i had the sliders and they were very good and tasted fresh and flavorful. The one thing that really set me off was when my boyfriend asked to talk to the manager(he works in the food industry and wanted to exchange cards) and when she came to the table she had the audacity to try to flirt with him right infront of me. EXTREMELY rude and inappropriate. ladies, be careful on dates here, the waitresses are touchy and the manager is very flirtatious.
Lux club and a strong cocktail are my go to here
Excellent for what it is - a high end bar/bistro. Not cheap, but reasonable for the location. Very nice burgers, excellent fries. Nice outside seating, professionally run. Not deserving of a special trip, but worth it if you happen to be in the area.
Excellent service, great food and drink menu. One of the better bars in Chicago and that's saying a lot
Awesome place!
Great service and food. Happy hours are totally worth it.
Never disappoints! Stopped in here Tuesday night for a late night dinner while in town (around 10am). Sat in bar and ordered cob salad and crab cakes- would recco both! Def a great place to hit if you wanna do drinks or late night snack/dinner.
Really cool craft cocktails that tasted excellent. The breakfast burrito was also really tasty and a decent size for a hungry boy like myself. There is a bar upstairs as well. The bathroom is also upstairs you should probably know.
Fun spot and great Whiskey selection, but our service was lacking.
Amazing place, request upstairs seating. First floor loud
Overall the service was good, except our server didn't have strong wine knowledge. The food was overall good. The sausages were generous, and they were accommodating with my dietary preferences. The one thing that was not great was that the eggs weren't poached fully so the white was very runny along with the yolk :-(.
Excellent service with great food. Drinks were also on point.
Sat outside after dinner at Gibson's. Went to Drake hotel first but service was so bad left and went to Luxbar. Great service, drinks and dessert.
Nice quiet social atmosphere
Delicious hideaway perfect spot for a lunch or to take a load off
One of the city's most iconic brunch restaurants, at least in this reviewer's book. It has all the classic Americana up its sleeve for the most iconic of American meals, the weekend brunch. The smartly attired, always helpful and extremely friendly staff could come from central casting, and as the food hits your table you do feel like you're in a movie. There's no such thing as overstaying one's welcome here and long brunches have been known to ease themselves into happy hour with surprising ease.
Average food, average service. Excellent location, especially in the summer.
Upscale restaurant with great selection of menu items. The filet sliders were amazing and also tried the club sandwich.
Fantastic after dinner drinks and bar staff.
Great place! John Damas is an excellent General Manager as we arrived after breakfast was being served however John went above and beyond to accommodate our needs for breakfast. Outstanding customer service.
This place has great happy hours. The wife and I sat at the bar and got a few glasses of wine and some fries. I also tried a nice tequila. The options are great, the prices fair, and the bartenders are fun to talk to.
Literally had the worst experience of my life last night after being racially profiled and disrespected here last night 12/16/18. My company had their holiday party last night. I arrived around 6. I made my plate in which an employee advised me that eveyone hadnt eaten and they weren't putting anymore shrimp out (I had 3 on my plate). I ignored her and continued to enjoy my night. When put party ended at 8ish out CEO invited us downstairs for another drink. I was advised that I wouldnt be served. Let's be clear I was very sober and taken aback. They told the same thing to my Hispanic coworker. They couldnt/wouldn't serve the 1 black girl and 1 Hispanic. Our coworkers asked to speak to a manager, who happened to be the rude lady from upstairs. She lied and was rude because they defended us. We were all asked to leave, although our CEO was already closing the tab. It's hard to believe the same people who own Givsons can also own this horrible establishment.
Food is awesome! Drinks and servers are great!
Great appetizers, drinks, and amazing staff!
rarely give a 5 star, and I should not, but service and ambience was just great and fun. Disappointing though was the extremely overpriced corkage fee and the mediocre wines which started at $50/bottle. we brought our own, thank goodness. The set up and the total experience was contributing to a great moment in time. A true KingFroach moment (we brought in, hence the corkage fee).
Poor service throughout entire visit. Fairly priced happy hour. Food is ok
Super tasty food. I ordered a burger and chili to go. Holy cow was it delicious! The burger was great, and the chili was even better. Best chili I've had! Can't wait to get back here for the chili.
This is a part of the Gibson’s chain of restaurants, so I already know it’s a good thing before we stopped in. Their brunch on Sunday was amazing and the drinks were top notch. I had the Avocado Toast as well as the Penicillin and it felt like I could have that for morning, lunch, and dinner. Truly a great diversion if you’re looking for something different off Rush.
Great place to go for a drink after work! Service was great!
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere for a very reasonable price.
Really tasty food and excellent service. I wasn't there long and only had apps and drinks, but it was a great atmosphere for a quick stop. Would really like to try the dinner!
I ordered the grilled cheese. So delicious. The tomato bisque was too creamy for me. But still a great meal!
Fun good eats
I went there for brunch and it was OK. I rate the service and food below an average IHOP.
We like Luxbar best in the area, a near optimal mix of casual and upscale. Food is consistently good, and service is helpful and quick (unusual for the Triangle). Outdoor seating is enjoyable, and just private enough
It is always a pure pleasure to dine at LUXBAR! The food is tops and everyone is super friendly. Nice atmosphere, and the management goes the extra mile to please customers. I just love LUXBAR, the best restaurant on The Gold Coast.❤️
Rockin happy hour. $5 EACH for a red, white or prosecco along with some $5 food - truffle fries and one little salad. Happy hour last until 7 and I think goes from Tues- Fri right now. Double check the website but GREAT for after work cocktails.
Great food but way too loud for an enjoyable dinner.
Delicious food albeit limited selection. The salmon, steak, and crabcakes are excellent. We would skip the cheesecake next time.
Great food and excellent service...
THE BEST SPORTS BAR IN THE GOLD COAST
Went for breakfast on New Years Morning. We had a reservations. We were seated promptly. It took a bit to get a cup of coffee. But over all the service and food was good.
Great service and excellent cocktails.
The Henley highball cocktail was delicious, the food decent (not mind blowing) - we got fries, tenders and macaroni. The service was friendly and nice and it was easy to get a reservation on a Saturday and they were flexible about changing the reservation time. Overall a good time.
1/2 price happy hour menu
Incredible bar, cool atmosphere and great drinks. Great place to chill!
Pricey food and drinks that really aren't worth the price. Given the nearby options with equal quality for much lower prices, probably not worth it.
Nice place to have your weekend breakfast at. Pretty loud out there, but atmosphere is warm and cozy. All waitresses wear red lipstick which makes the place quite unique and interesting. Seating was quick, severs were fast, food was good. A nice place to go to as a couple, I was there with my husband and we both enjoyed. I recommend visiting and trying their food and drinks.
Great bar service and atmosphere. Bar bites were all awesome.
Excellent service. Excellent food and great ambience!!! Ask to be seated in Christina's section. You won't be diasspointed.
Great breakfast and cocktails, top notch service.
The most quintessentially average food you could imagine. Very unimaginative, and executed mediocrely, at best. Go somewhere else if you must visit the dreaded gold coast selection of eateries.
Excellent food and service. Great place for brunch. Steak and frites is excellent. French toast is almost creamy. Avacado toast a bit more of a salad, but still quite good.
Food is great, tabs are reasonable for the Gold Coast. Great place and quick friendly service
One of the cooler bars in the area with a menu to build your own Manhattan based on the type of whiskey, Amaro, and bitters you'd like. They have an expansive selection of whiskey overall and it's a great spot to come back to.
We came in just ahead of closing. Hate doing that to staff, but we'd been travelling & had late arrival. Everyone gave us top notch service. This place always makes you feel like a million bucks. Drinks were gorgeous & delicious. Get the Lux Old Fashioned! Appetizers were generously portioned & the flavors fantastic. Consistenly superb!
The restaurant is awesome the service is incredible highly recommend it.
Stopped in for drinks after having dinner nearby. Sat at the bar-bartenders were great! Very friendly and responsive despite being super busy. Would love to come back to try the food sometime.
Hosted dinner for 20...great space in private upstairs room with a nice bar and balcony...five choices ona set menu (two steaks, pork chop, chicken or Chilean sea bass)...family style garbage salad, asparagus with Parmesan, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes...each table also shared a giant lobster tail that was cut into chunks and served family style in the tail with drawn butter...everything was great and the service was nice...giant slabs of carrot cake and ice cream turtle pie were served family style, as well...great place - especially on an expense account!
I was looking for a nearby place for a brunch get together with friends. While this was not my first choice due to lack of table availability at other establishments, I ended up making a reservation at Luxbar. Coming in from the cold and rain we were all pleasantly greeted by an ambiance that is warm and welcoming. We arrived on time and were seated almost immediately. Within minutes of being seated our waiter came by to see if we were interested in drinks. Upon returning with our beverages he took our food orders. In between our drink and food orders the place became very crowded. Despite what appeared to be an endless flow of people coming and going, the service was impeccable. The food taste and quality was top notch. All this was delivered at prices that do not destroy your budget. If you are looking for an all around enjoyable brunch experience, give Luxbar a shot. Just be sure to make a reservation.
Great spot for after dinner cocktails.
Fancy. Good service. Nice.
Nice private bar space. Good snacks (hummus, guac). Pretty good pizza's. A decent variety of drinks. Good place for a casual get together.
Irish whiskey was amazing.
Came here on New Year 2018 and the place was busy. Our original plan was to go to the original pancake house next door but it was too packed and we were short on time so we just walked into this place. It was a pleasant surprise. The food was good but a bit pricey. For the area though, it's probably reasonable. We sat at the bar and our waiter/bartender was nice. We enjoyed our meal.
Quaint and cozy, yet modern, place in a fantastic location just off rush st in gold coast (viagra triangle). Basic, yet sufficient, wine selection with a yummy menu. Love the bar snacks. We ordered pigs in a blanket and would definitely recommend them. Their main menu looked good as well. It's nice that the kitchen is open late. They didn't have any specials and their prices are fair considering the vibe and location. Would go again
Great bar in the heat of the Rush street district. They also have a great variety of beverages and food.
The Lux Bar has a nice atmosphere and is in a great location just off of Rush St. The food was great. I got a burger and loved it, and the regular fries were really good too. The menu really just had burgers/sanwhiches, salad and soup, and couple of other good entrees. I wish there was a little more variety. But all in all, there's enough to choose from and I don't think anyone would be disappointed. Our server was also very friendly and sweet. Some of the appetizers and additional sides were expensive though. All in all, it was great. I recccommend it. I would return.
Their turkey burger was amazing. It did not disappoint. Service was wonderful and our server was very upbeat and personable. The crab cake and shrimp cocktail was also another great choice and was fresh and flavorful! Will definatley be back to try their desserts!
Great place for cocktails & a bite. The atmosphere is alluring & the decor/building details will have you in awe! Most definitely a place to stop by!
Great atmosphere and service. Great happy hour selection that include truffle friends and 5 dollar sliders. Free truffle pizzas on the house, and the servers remembered our orders exactly.
Very good quality food, went on Sunday for brunch, busy, bit noisy, with TV
Luxbar slaps, in a good way. From firey cocktails made by experienced bartenders, to delectable burgers stacked with all the meat and cheese you need, it's safe to say this modern American restaurant is worth your time.
Awesome restaurant! Crab cake was to die for. Moscow mule was amazing. Very impressed with the management and service. We will be going back next time we're in Chicago
Food was decent, really crowded place tho. They need to remove one table so people aren't constantly bumping into others. They seem to be really focused on good service and it was apparent and appreciated. Cute place and they take reservations.
Spectacular service. Food was amazing and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend.
The best food in the neighborhood. Excellent cocktails, great and friendly staff and awesome happy hour/lunch specials.
Great staff and excellent steak frites
My waitress waa the bomb.
Awesome atmosphere and great food! Service was perfect even on a busy saturday night.
Enjoyed happy hour...stayed into the late evening.
Incredible selection of bourbon, scotch, gin, tequila and everything else. Outstanding service and the prices are far from terrible. If you're around, stop by!
I really like luxbar! The food is excellent.
Food was awesome, the servers were friendly and having fun with us, love the interaction with us. Will return!
Good food, drinks and awesome service
Cool views.
Food is good, waitstaff is awesome...My new spot
Go to spot when visiting Chicago. Upscale bar food menu, build your own Manhattan, what more do you need to try?
Phenominal service the moment we stepped into the restaurant from the hostesses to our waiters to the manager SUSIE from Atlanta!!
A great food, great service. My favorite burger in the city.
Awesome bar!
Delicious food complemented with prompt service. I love sitting outside of Luxbar and watch people walking by while eating!
Great place in the Gold Coast, upscale but you don’t have to be fancy to eat here. The clubs are delicious and also the fries. But if you go, make sure you get the chili it’s absolutely fantastic. It does get busy so either grab a reservation or go at an off time
Kelly, my server was a rockstar. Her suggestions were great and her service was exceptional. My sandwich was awesome as was the cauliflower. The chocolate cake with espresso ice cream was divine. Wines by the glass selections were decent. A great place in the Gold Coast for a casual meal.
We really enjoyed the morning at Lux Bar. A few Bloody Marys, Some very cheerful staff, the bright green checked table cloths all made it a great time. The Breakfast burrito was the best I ever had. Good drinks. Nice atmosphere. Restaurant is beautiful. We chose to sit on the bar side and enjoy early happy hour--which is a great bargain. Will be back again. Our server was very good as well. Really beautiful area in Chicago. Restaurant is decorated very nice. Food was delicious. I had the french dip. Great drinks as well.
The food was delicious and presentation exquisite. The ambiance Is up to my liking. Its a perfect setting. Price around $300 with tip included for five people, 3 appetizers, 5 dinners and 8 drinks and deserts we shared.
Our waitress Maddie was fantastic. The manager even sat with us . Also upon arrival my wife was given a big bouquet of flowers.
Food was great! The table location wasn't ideal at all, we ste right next to a door that serves were coming in/out of
Elegant atmosphere, good food and great service. A little pricey.
Not your average bar. Great food,Great service and great atmosphere.
Great place walked right in and was sat and the place is packed. Waitress was at the table quick even with how busy and grabbed a drink order. Came back and suggested the roast beef. Amazing food tender and taste great. Highly recommend this place.
Love it here. Awesome burger
Awesome staff and food!
Pretty high class area. But friendly service!!
A nice atmosphere. We had a meeting and used the whole upper floor. The food was delicious especially the desserts, we had an ice cream cake and carrot cake and they were both very nice, the service was wonderful. Would definelty recommend.
Great food, great environment and ambience (both inside and outdoor dining) and great service! Ive never been for dinner as this whole area is always packed at night but brunch is amazing. Ask for Christina's section #protip
They have interesting local beers. Good foods at reasonable prices.
Great bloody Mary
Josh was a fantastic server. We accidentally found the place and loved it.
Part steakhouse, part neighborhood bar - if your neighborhood is the Gold Coast. This is the casual, cooler, and younger version of Gibson's, minus tourists, suburbanites, and old business guys. Service is good, could be a little more attentive, but maybe that's because my party is always laid back. Fairly standard menu - salads, steaks, burgers, and nicer appetizers, but all high quality. Cocktail menu changes seasonally, beers and wines do as well, and they have a small, but nice selection of cider. Meats are always cooked perfectly. It's often nosey, so if that bothers you, don't go on weekends. Brunch and dinner near the fireplace is great, lunch in the sunny front area or on the patio is cheerful. I've been there a bunch over many years and have never had a bad meal. Any little hiccups are more than adequately resolved by managers who have all been there awhile. Desert is not " fancy", but huge! Snickers pie can satisfy at least 2, but I usually share it with 3 other people.
Great sandwich, tasty cocktail, hot date.... perfect lunch place
Great food! We went for brunch and it was delicious! The Mac and cheese is a must try!
The waiter was very professional great attitude and look out for our every need. The food was good but our waiter was the highlight of our visit.
Did you ever honestly feel deep regrets for choosing a new restaurant and then being DEEPLY disappointed? I spent over $15 for an unimaginative burger and fries this evening and I'm not sure why people are raving about the food especially since I have spent that much before but never felt unsatisfied or so uncomfortable. I think what made me especially upset is I approached the outside host first and really wanted to enjoy a meal seated outside but a small group of three came right after me so he gave them the very best table outside towards the street which was lively and cheerful then he sat me down outside also but right next to their indoor bar so I sat with my back to the freezing cold restaurant bar which was cold and noisy. My waitress didn't seem super comfortable with me and when I sat down to eat my water took forever and I had to ask for a bread basket twice which arrived to my table two minutes before my way overpriced burger. I had asked my waitress for advice on whether to get their steak priced at just one dollar extra and she strongly encouraged me to go with the burger. I then asked her if the house made chips would be better than fries and again she assured me to stick with the fries but the fries were flavorless and cut super thin which definitely isn't my favorite. When I was ready to go I had her wrap my leftovers up and mentioned it would be a treat for my dog and she immediately admonished me urging me that dogs should never be fed people food. Well what can I say I'm deeply unhappy with my meal which is just "average " and I didn't feel very honored when I arrived first and received an outside table closest to their freezing cold air conditioned bar so I'm feeling pretty sad right now and regretful that I didn't wait an extra 40 minutes to be seated at Gibson's where I've never been treated as poorly as I was treated here at Luxbar tonight.
Second home after Gibsons :)
Decent food not so decent service
It was hard to enjoy the place when their air conditioning wasn't working on a 98 degree day.
good food
Good burger. Good service
Nice low key place with great food and friendly service. The fries are amazing and what's not to love with breakfast all day? Small menu but great quality.
Very nice place, great service and offer a variety of cool mixed drinks. Expensive but portion sizes are also pretty big
I wasn't expecting much from Luxbar, since the neighborhood it is located in is all shopping and tourism. Luxbar is on par with the other restaurants in the area, nothing special really. The food was very greasy and poorly presented. But out of the options in the area it's one of the better ones. The one thing that really made Luxbar stand out was the service. The staff at Luxbar was very friendly and attentive. They regularly stopped in to check on us and we never had to wait long for drink refills. I wish Luxbar would make some improvements to their kitchen so the food would match the service.
Great steak frites and atmosphere. Burger was good as well as cheapest red wine. Not expensive all in.
Love the selection of vintage beers! Hard to find a place offering much of the well aged beers they have!
Amazing food and atmosphere! Try the truffle fries they’re the best I’ve ever had!
Great bar in my local part of town, the staff is so nice and everything is super high quality!
Gold Coast people watching..
Happy hours now from 3-6 and we always have a nice time
Incredible cocktails here! I highly recommend the Old Fashioned.
