Excellent, simply excellent! Starters, pate in particular, blew our mind, not just taste buds. Our waiter, despite being in her job only for the second day, did a stellar job of a pro level. Wine selection is impressively well done and will satisfy even the picky connoisseurs. We had gnocchi and chicken as main dish and we can proudly say that even the French would say "délicieux". We are so glad even Chicago now has a great French restaurant!

James Brendel

Great food. Small portions and very pricey. Service was terrible on the day we dined.

Dko Sdm

We got there right when it opened on a weekday without a reservation. Luckily, they had a table because the people started streaming in and before we knew it, it was packed! We had celebratory drinks and two crab cakes. Drinks were great and the crab cakes were creamy, crispy and tasty all at the same time. Service was good.

Aleksey Polshchakov

Great atmosphere and tasty food. You should try their pork chop when you go there.

Good but not quite there yet. Appetizers and wines were worthy of 4.5 stars, but the entrés did not shine. Overall, not a bad experience. We'll give it another chance in a few months and update accordingly.

A feast for the senses while maintaining touchs that will make Le Sud a neighborhood mainstay. An exceptionally personal staff is the cherry on top a casual French brasserie that excels in presentation, flavor and friendliness.

Eric Longoria

Attended restaurant week 2019 here. Staff was very attentive to us. They provided recommendations and combinations that would best complete our experience from their menu. Both the duck and roasted trout were excellent. Overall, very impressed. Will be returning in the future.

Le Sud is a visually attractive restaurant with a great staff and excellent service. The food was quite good overall. A couple of dishes were just average, hence the one star off. Definitely will come back to try more.

Absolutely wonderful

I dined here for my Birthday in November 2018. This was a fantastic meal. I had the grilled escargot it was very non-traditional but delicious. The lavender glazed duck was so good I wanted to lick the plate. I can be picky, especially with duck and it was great. The wine list was nice, I had a delightful pairing offered to me by Mark, our server, who I've worked with in the past and who kept introducing me to everyone who worked there, including the owner who was incredibly sweet. I used to live next door to the woman who baked all of their bread- in house and I had previously worked with the management team. So many worlds collidided to make me feel right at home with some delicious contemporary French food in a very intimate and homestyle setting. Dessert was good; I enjoyed the cookies that came with the ice cream the most and was glad there were some gluten free options for others. It did get quite loud being primetime on a Saturday night, although I didn't quite mind. We were on the second floor, so I'd imagine being on the first floor and/or going earlier/later in the night would be more manageable if the noise bothers you or you are hoping to have long conversation. It was a great experience, the food was delicious and the service was excellent, especially for how busy they were. The staff were all friendly and other guests seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we were. I look forward to going back.

Andrea Rdz

Love it.

The gnocchi was great. Burger was also great. They have a great selection of wines and beers. Coffee was strong. The fries lacked taste. Mayonnaise with a hint of garlic? Come on, no one wants to eat pure fat and leave with their breath smelling. The waiter was annoyed with our table; I almost didn’t tip him and I always tip. They refill your water way too often over your shoulder. Just get bigger drinking glasses for your tables, honestly. Anyways, I still give it 4 stars just because they are new and they have great food. Manager was very nice and came to our table as well. Will try it again.

Andrew Thiermann

Amazing French food with fantastic cocktails and one of the best, most balanced wine lists in the city.

Patrick Maxton

Little neck clams were awesome and the steak was delicious.

Keith Griffin

Oh my god, the pork chops. The pork chops, oh my god.

Ute McIntosh

Excellent food, french Mediterranean flair. Decor transports you to French countryside. Bartender Chris made our visit even better.

Julie Krueger

Large party upstairs. Great room that let us mingle and be loud. Food was delicious (octopus was exceptional). A few from our party wanted to stay for an after dinner drink but the wait staff was not so keen to stay very long.

Da_ Crouch

Very good food and nice people

Juan Echeverria

Le sud now takes reservations! (Yeah) The place feels homey and the staff & manager are attentive. My husband is from France so we were excited to try this place and were not disappointed. We ordered the escargot, fois gras tarte, Quail dish , carrots and bouillabaisse.. with a lovely bottle of côtés de Rhône. There is a kids menu and my 9 year old thought they had the best pasta! For dessert the vanilla maple ice cream and peach sorbet were a great finish.. they will definitly see us again.

Leah Cuyler

Great experience

Laura Pearce

Excellent service and the food was outstanding. Everything we ordered featured flavor combinations that played off one another extremely well. Also enjoyed the wine and dessert wine selections.

Barb Pohl

The service was great. The trout was very moist and the sauce was excellent. The pea soup was very creamy with a nice tang to it.

Thanasi Loukas

GREAT FRENCH RESTARAUNT! The escargot and octopus was great. The croquettes were so warm and crispy they were amazing. The steak and frittes were perfect.

Linda Sohn

A wonderful dinner. Service, food and ambiance were perfect. Thank you Matt from Trump for the recommendation!

steven hirmer

This is a true gem. The atmosphere is suitable for a meeting, date, anniversary you name it. Two bars to, the upstairs one a great place if you are solo dining. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable on the food and drink options. I was solo dining so my concentration being the small plates. First I started with a refreshing pilsner. This got my palette going. The foie gras was arguably the best I ever had. Even if you don't like liver, try it. You will love it. On to the octopus salad. Tender and loaded with flavor. The French fries finished off my dinner. I was full and satisfied. I enjoyed a wonderful Cabernet. I look forward to going back with my wife so we can share some large plates. I finished everything with a cognac infused wine, recommended by the bartender. All this for less than $60. You can't go wrong. Enjoy.

Eduardo Reyna

Great food

Elaine Filus

Fresh, inviting space with excellent food. Very friendly staff. We shared the panisse frites which were served with a delicious aioli. Both the trout and the scallops were fabulous. Would recommend and will definitely be back myself.

Brenda Kriss

The food was very good with a nice modern twist on some traditional French dishes. Our service was fantastic with a very knowledge waiter who did a great job navigating us through the delicious menu.

Wayne Kouf

Good food. Waiter was a bit too "touchy"

Alex S

Overall great experience for my family and I. Had my parents in town and it was my daughters first night out. Food, cocktails, wine suggestions, and service were all great. Great addition to the neighborhood and hopefully we will go again. We got a reservation and would suggest that especially with it being new. Only one suggestion to them, kids burger for my son the top bun is a little thick for a kid to eat effectively. I took a bite and it was great tasting so it’s just a little thing. You can’t go wrong with scallops, pork chop, duck, or the vanilla maple ice cream.

Doug Dawson

A nust try

Stacey Hacker

Cute place and convenient to Roscoe village where I live. I had heard good things and was eager to check it out. Unfortunately I found it a little dissapointing. The food was underwhelming and I felt like a lot of items were over seasoned making it difficult to finish. I likely will not go back.

alex nye

Great food and service. Very professional

(Translated by Google) Local with nice atmosphere, I took the octopus (Spanish octopus) which was tender and tasty and the duck that I found very good, I also tried the mussels and without doubt they are among the best I've ever had, the cooking broth was superb. Paul, our waiter, was discreet, caring and sympathetic, he was genuinely sorry for not being able to please us when we requested an espresso, which is rather strange in a room of this level, this does not take away from the fact that it still remains a 5 star experience.

Vesna Siftar

What a gem! Great Sommelier.

Ryan Paul

Really good home style French food

Mark Woods

Fantastic food served by an excellent staff at a good price.

Braden Lenz

We failed to make a reservation and ended up sitting at the bar for the first 1 to 1.5 hrs. We ordered drinks and food at the bar with the knowledge that when a table opened up then we would be moved there. When a table became available we waited for another 30 minutes at which point we flagged down a waiter to see what happened to our food order (made > 1 hr before). He then informed us that it was never started. I haven't really ever had problems with service before but we ended up waiting almost 2 hrs before actually receiving our food which felt longer than acceptable. The food wasn't so spectacular that I would feel okay waiting that long again. Would pass next time I'm in the area

Danielle Tomassini

Overall, great food, great ambiance, great service. Made reservations for 7:30pm on a Saturday; definitely recommend reservations as it was busy. We had to wait a few minutes for our table, which was fine. For food, we had croquettes and a baguette to start. Scallops, the duck, and french fries for the main. And the Basque cake for dessert. We enjoyed all of it and would recommend those dishes. For service, our water glasses were always filled and we generally didn't have a hard time getting our waiter's attention. I was most impressed when he immediately brought the wine list when our entrees came (we made a comment earlier that we'd switch to wine). I appreciate that we didn't even have to ask. And about a minute after that the manager walked by and asked if we knew what we wanted. He saw my dish and immediately gave me two recommendations and then brought me a taste of each of them without me asking. While I live in walking distance to the restaurant I thought it was good enough that it would bring me to Roscoe Village if I didn't live here. I already have reservations to come back in a month for a family celebration.

Ashley Harding

Thrilled to have a fine dining establishment in our neighborhood! Simon, the manager, went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dinner. Overall, the food was thoughtfully prepared and creative. I can’t say there was one standout dish, as every meal we ordered was tasty. Great menu, cute vibe and excellent service. Wonderful addition to Roscoe Village!

James Stoik

Our party of 3 had an amazing experience tonight. The food was wonderful as was the service from Sean. We dined al fresco and the only negative was the lack of lighting once nightfall arrived.

Ryan Darby

Food was great. Service was just ok. They need a little more time to work the kinks out.

From the high ratings and reading about strong flavors, we were excited to come to this place for a little celebration. Overall, we left satisfied, and took plenty of photos (see attachments). However, we are on the fence on whether or not we would return again in the future. First of all, we noticed that menu items on their website (specifically the bouillabaisse) was not on the menu at the restaurant. Nevertheless, we moved forward, and ordered appetizers: Seasonal cheese plate, Spanish octopus, and Niçoise Tartine (marinaded grilled tuna). The octopus was outstanding, the tuna good, however one of the cheeses (Scottish cheddar) had a strong mold-like taste. One server was kind to provide us with an extra slice of the creamy blue cheese, which was delectable. For the main courses, we had the pan-roasted duck breast and the Mussels Provençal. The duck was flavorful, but chewy and fatty. The mussels dish was good, but was supposed to include prawns as per the menu description. Not sure why they were left off. Also the broth was a bit too salty to drink alone without the toasted bread. The Cabernet ordered was silky, refreshing, and left the palate begging for more. But that was the problem (see photo). They poured so little of it and still charged $11. One has to wonder if this was an adequate “serving”. During the evening, the service was phenomenal. You really had the impression the people working there were focused on taking care of you. Water glasses were filled promptly, and the dishes came out in a timely manner. That said, we only wished they offered better in terms of food and drink to bring us back.

Diane Falk

My friend and I are always looking for new restaurants in the neighborhood, and I can't express what a gem this French restaurant is. The décor is classy. The customer service was top notch. Our waitress was amazing. She helped us navigate the menu. So many exotic flavors & so healthy! We started with bread and olive oil with herbs along with the Shrimp appetizer. The shrimps are hearty-sized and were perfectly seasoned. I would highly recommend these to start. Then we shared the roasted brussels sprouts, roasted carrots, and seared pumpkin fregola. The taste of all these dishes were so flavorful and so satisfying. They took some of my favorite dishes to the next level. The manager, Noel was very accommodating and helped us pick dessert. The Basque Cake was divine and different from any other dessert I have ever tasted in my life! I know I will be coming back because the exotic flavors and their taste set the crave. A great experience of local French cuisine overall. Magnifique!

#update 8/9/19: we love this place and probably have been at least once a month for dinner and a few brunch and wine tastings. But since the new Chef has taken over things have changed and not really for the better. Last night was the second time under his stewardship and we felt that his tweaks to the menu that made the restaurant a hit, are misses. The flavors over power each other on the duck, and the steak frites has become pedestrian. We realize things change and menu items come and go in order to maintain the edge in the industry, but it seems like the subtle balance originally achieved here has been broken. Service is still excellent but the Management is different. Unfortunately we're going to have to wait out the changes for a while, hopefully it's just growing pains. Excellent Restaurant in the heart of Roscoe village. From the Friendly greeters to the knowledgeable waitstaff, you'd think this place had been open for many years, but in a short time they have themselves a well oiled machine. We started with the charcuterie and salad and had Duck and Steak frites for our main meal. A tour of the French red wines by the glass accompanied our meals. I finished with a classic cocktail and my partner had some handmade gelato. Excellent spot for a date, or dinner with friends. Can't wait to go back.

Andrea Celleri

Who eats mayonnaise with Fries? Oh yeah, the French. So oui, s'il vous plaît give me all the aioli with my fries at this French joint. Busy Friday night for this 2-week old restaurant but felt right at home. Love the attention to detail at this place - from the delicious food to the attentive service to the complimenting decor. Will be back very soon to try more of the menu.
