REVIEWS OF Le Colonial Chicago IN Illinois

Michelle Rock

Really incredible food and love the atmosphere. They had a lot of good gluten free options, which I loved. Everything was very flavorful and the staff were all very nice. It is a bit of a dress up place, which adds to the experience. Definitely going back.

Laura Sage

LOVE the new Le Colonial. The food is devine, and the new menu items are fun additions. The staff are as charming as always. The decore is so chic and vibrant. The team managed to retain all of the charm while augmenting the cool-factor.

M Sor

Don’t bother. The service and food in the previous location were much better. Their receptionists do not look nor work like professionals. They do not fit the image of this elegant French-Vietnamese restaurant. They look very cheap. Eat somewhere else.

James Parks

I prefer the new location but the food is even better now. Top honors for rising to the challenge.

gabriela chrobak

I love this place! For everything... food, decor, atmosphere, and above all... for mango margaritas! Le Colonial is one of my favorites in Chicago Downtown!

Jordan Wear

Their new location is stunning. The food is great, the ambiance is fantastic and i think this is a good spot for a date or small family dinner

KD Wil

The restaurant was comfortable and not noisy like most are now. The atmosphere made you feel special. It was colonial, tropical and clean. We did not feel like we were in a big city. The food was fabulous! This will be a destination on every trip to Chicago! I can't wait for my next meal there!

Jordan Bradley

Amazing food and truly unique decor. Lots of fun photographs on the walls and enough indoor plants to give it a jungle feel. Fabulous upstairs bar that is as classy as you can get. I love this place, it's been on of my favorite Chicago dining establishments for over a decade. Staff is capable and the manager is very personable.

James Green

Great new location, Delicious foods, great staff

Minal Varma

Great ambience! Extremely flavorful food ! Their creme brulee is a great choice for dessert.

Will Conniff

Seek out Mel at the bar for a great cocktail then settle in for great food and service.

Marta Guerrero

More Vietnamese than French, really good

Xu Dawei

It is definitely a great idea to bring a date here. The food is not over decorated but taste wonderful, The decoration of the restaurant is beautiful. My favorite place in the city to impress a friend.

Mekeli Ieremia

Very cool decor, excellent service, food is delicious

R. Turkish

Super authentic Vietnamese food with an awesome upstairs bar. Decor and ambiance is very inviting and upscale. 12/10

Haley Jang

Great atmosphere and foods are delicious (loved the chicken curry) Took one star off for the small portion of the pho(rice noodle soup) taste was good tho

Jess Amstadt

Ordered a last minute gift card for Christmas (my fault for doing it only a week prior), and Sarah H. was so amazing and helpful at making it a priority to get it to me asap. Customer service at its best. Thank you, Sarah!

I've always heard amazing things about Le Colonial Chicago and was very excited to finally try it out. It is safe to say that the food was the best I've ever had and the atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately our server, Alejandro, seemed disinterested in serving us. Perhaps he was just having a bad day but every other table seemed to have servers that interacted with them more pleasantly. I hate to give this place such a low rating because of one person, since the rest of the staff was amazing. I'm also not sure why Alejandro, just threw our check to us at the end of our meal. It honestly ruined the mood and my experience.

Marjorie Easley

Great for lunch. Nice patio in the spring and summertime. It is hard to find good Vietnamese food outside of Argyle street. I love the flavor profiles of the cuisine and Le Colonial does a great job. A longtime favorite of many locals, it can get busy but it has never felt loud or crowded. Service is great as well.

M P

Ate here last night and the food was spectacular. Spot on. To my surprise the restaurant is a newer version of a Chicago Classic that recently relocated. Not being from Chicago, I didn’t know this. Well, they nailed it! The environment is amazing with a wonderful setting, music and staff. They have done a absolutely terrific job of taking you back in time to Northern Vietnam. What a journey it was. Thank you Joe! I’ll be back...

Stephen Mooney

What a treat. Perfect for lunch or dinner. It's like being in a different country. Great staff , food and service. Reservations are suggested. Not a huge fan of the mandatory elevator.

Jeanette

Incredible flavor profile; seafood and veggies cooked to perfection <3

Judith Bowles

The venue reminds you of a movie scene depicting colonial Vietnam. We had the chicken dumplings and ribs for appetizers, good. We had spicy chicken stir fry and shrimp Curry for main course, spicy and yummy! Scoops of Mango and Rasberry Sorbet and a lemon tart for dessert, so refreshing and fresh! Tight seating fills up fast so reservation is needed. Bar area is like a club. Different decor and waitress uniform with live entertainment.

Regina Leslie

Very good, however I thought the stir fry dishes were lacking in creativity. Beautiful environment, albeit cramped.

Joe Nobody

I’ve been a frequent quest to this wonderful establishment since 1997, yep, that’s a long a time, and I never had a bad meal or experience there. The snooty hostesses not withstanding. The new space is beautiful, elegant, they did a good job keeping the old charm intact. I proposed to my wife there, and been going back every year for our anniversary, and will continue to for many years to come. We usually start with the spring Rolls, and a couple drinks. For the main course we ordered the filet mignon and the chicken curry with a side of crispy red snapper. lots of food but how could we just pick one thing. Mango sorbet with mango sauce for desert and a double espresso to rap the night up. See you next year guys and thank you

Dean Ramsay

One of the very best romantic restaurants in town. Great experience and food. Very well satisfied and will recommend and visit again for sure. Cool tropical vibe

Tuan Nguyen

Upscale Vietnamese, great desserts, service, and decor

Han Song

I thought it was little weird that Vietnamese restaurant has this fancy interior and services. Everything was great here. Good food, great services, but little pricey. Best creme brulee.

Miss Blink Chicago

Great food and excellent service. I've only been here once but haven't forgot about them since. Will be making a reservation this weekend. Best Vietnamese restaurant in town.

Sunil Patel

Great atmosphere either upstairs or downstairs. Food is high quality. Service is attentive.

Edi Judith Doffou

Great food, excellent service and nice atmosphere

Jess Ochoa

Excellent service and food! Came here for a work dinner outing. Didn't really know what to expect and it was all great! I would come back and recommend people try this place out!

Carbon Copied

Delicious. Although you should add Bun ba Hoi to the menu :-)

Manuel Valls

Outstanding food, very nice venue, and ambiance. We didn’t have a reservation, but arrived pretty late so no issues getting a comfortable table to get dinner at the bar. Service wasn’t top notch, but I see it as an isolated case. Server forgot to order our apps, so we had apps and entrees at the same time. The food was so good that it didn’t really matter.

miguel chang

Pay attention! ♨️ All the food is delicious but these are my recommendations:

Andreana Lau

An upscale French Vietnamese restaurant. Very nice ambiance on the indoor terrace. Food was generally good. (Shrimp & pork roll appetizer was great; the "shaking beef" was also great; but the spicy chicken stir-fry was not that distinctive and had too much fennel. Desserts were delicious but tiny.) Wait staff was slow - it was weekday lunch hour and the place was packed.

Pan Fayang

I dressed in sneakers, jeans, and hoodie. My partner was wearing sneakers pants and a coat. The usher thought we dressed OK so he welcomed us in, but the waiters at the entrance turned us away saying they have a dressing code of business casual. The combination of us got turned away by many waitresses wearing Vietnamese dresses, I didn't see anyone of Asian descent, and the name of this restaurant itself, really sparked no joy in me. I would never return to this place.

Oscar Ortiz

The best Pho in chicago !

Jessica Ahn

The ambiance, food, and service is great here! The only downside is that it books up real quick so if you want a nice seat on the first floor, make sure to make reservations ahead of time (at least a couple of days ahead of time if you're trying to book for a Friday-Sunday). However, if you just want to walk in, I've had some luck with walking in and getting seated at the "bar" which is an upstairs area that extends beyond traditional "bar" seating and actually has some tablets and couch areas that are nice.

Abigail Granner

Upscale dinning and Vietnamese cuisine. Dimly lit, cozy/warm atmosphere. Came here late on the weekend for a birthday celebration. I was able to find a curry dish that wasn't to spicy or over-flavoured (yes, that is possible) so it sat easy on my stomach. With a group of 6, we ordered an array of seafood/chicken/beef and everyone was happy with their entrees, dessert and drinks.

Kristian Schroer

Extremely pricy for what you get. Food ok but nothing special. On top and by mistake the waitress threw a shrimp on my pants and poured curry over my coat. No offer for compensation or help with the cleaning. A No Go for an upscale place like this.

Kirk Wessel

Great place for dinner. Small plates and can enjoy with friends.

Linda Xiong

Formal dining. Didn't expect that, so we were not dressed for the occasion. Pho was small portion, but good. Hosts were nice and service was quick. Would go back in the future.

Romi Olariu

Excellent atmosphere and great food. Highly recommend. Tried the Bo Sati and it was excellent. Great flavors.

Shaan Somani

Had a lovely meal here on a Sunday night. Was seated promptly at the bar and received excellent service from the bartender. At his recommendation, I ordered the pork and shrimp roll and the tuna tartare, as well as the Winter mocktail. The roll was delicious and filling, though notably lacked any bold flavors. The accompanying sliced carrots provided a refreshing level of citrus that complemented the dish well. The tartare was also very good. The soy sauce was prominent and paired well with the texture of the avocado and tuna. The chips provided also gave the dish a nice crunch. Once again, however, the spice profile was nothing too noteworthy. Overall I really enjoyed my meal and I'll likely return. However, especially for the price, I expect the food to wow me a bit more.

LilyLovesSushi

Always a wonderful meal. Final day at this location...moving to Oak street in February 2019. We cant wait to see the new location and their menu!

Daniel Levy

We have been dining at Le Colonial since they first opened 23+ years ago on Rush Street and have been regulars and huge fans of this restaurant since they first opened. Once they announce that they were moving we were concerned that things were going to change. We had dinner at their new location last night, and I have to say we were blown away with how spectacular, rich and welcoming the new restaurant was. The amazing and welcoming Raphael the now partner/manager greeted us with his usual charm, friendliness and as usual, made us feel like we were dining at his home. We were seated next to one of the huge windows looking over to Oak Street and the view was breathtaking. The filet Bo sate was even tastier than it was before. The new vegetarian crispy eggrolls were outstanding. The place was packed, the waiter and staff were outstanding. We want to thank Raphael for always making sure that everything is just perfect and that we are enjoying ourselves. We will be telling all our friend and family about this amazing restaurant and will continue being regular and loyal customers of Le Colonial. Give yourself a great experience and book a dinner at this most amazing and romantic place to dine at in Chicago.

Angad Bedi

One of the very best romantic restaurants in town. Great experience and food. Very well satisfied and will recommend and come again. Hopefully with the same date

Darren Cromwell

The decor and ambiance is quote remarkable.

S K

Loved this place. We were seated in the upstairs balcony and the atmosphere was amazing. The Pho was pretty good. My wife and I both loved our main entrees. Definitely recommend.

Norman Lee Morris

Pt. 1: Highly overrated. Not really Vietnamese at all as advertised. Think Disney’s take on a generic Asian restaurant. Pt. 2: Unbeknownst to me until now, my mom went here recently. She was treated horribly by the hostess. They weren't even busy and she was turned away because they claimed to be booked. All she wanted was a quick lunch for one!! Their new location looks like a cheap nail salon. Your money is better spent anywhere else in the area or your dollars will go twice as far on Argyle St. Shout out to Tank Noodle!

Vlad Didenko

We frequented the old location on the Rush St and were excited to check the new place out. It is a delight. Seating in deep chairs in the bar area is comfortable to kick back and sip - but also to sit up and eat. Ambiance is soft but not dark, the music is present, but not getting on a way of conversation. Same great Indochina-travel inspired design as at the old place - with a new freshness and class. Tuna tartare and carpaccio starters are both excellent - fresh and fragrant just enough to help the meat to shine. Very well balanced. Chips in tuna tartare and vegetables in carpaccio are well selected and add to both taste and volume. The chicken fried rice is gently and wonderfully opinionated. Not harshly fried, it is soft and full of flavor. Not that many ingredients, but you would not want them. You want that umami coming without any distractions. Really, really nice. The service was prompt, polite, although as times distracted. The management may want to ask non-waiting personnel to limit their personal communications around patrons.

James O'Connell

Great food! Beautiful place and great atmosphere!

Shambhavi Thakur

They claim to “vividly recapture spirit of French colonial Southeast Asia from the 1920s” but they do not have laborers slaving away on rubber plantations in the background and random people thrown in jail/tortured because they expressed dissent against French colonial occupation. I guess they don’t understand what colonialism is!

William Keene

A great time. Sitting outside was very romantic and very nice. The drink options were nice and the food was just as good. It will not be a disappointment if you come here for a meal and drinks. The next time I am in town I will be sure to stop by again

Brandi Schorey

One of the best places I've ever eaten in any of my travels! And the service was impeccable.

Daniël

We had gone to Le Colonial in San Francisco, and had a great experience, so thought we’d try the Chicago location and were not disappointed! Yummy cocktails, very pleasant service and great food all made our brunch really great! The flambéed pineapple dessert is a must try :)

Minnie

This restaurant is superb. My favourite in Chicago and possibly the world. They can make many dishes vegan without compromising the integrity of the dish.

christen amer

Best Creme Brulee I've ever tried.

Louis Hernandez

Beautiful new space for this restaurant that has been in the gold coast for many years. The vodka martinis are exceptional

Alexander Royce

Good place with great desserts and interior

Kai D

Rude server ruined a great place we've been to many times. Alejandro decided to just throw our check at us at the end of our meal. No words or anything, just tossed the check.

Amos Kav

Very good restaurant. Asian food. Sofisticate. Tasty. Interesting flavours. There are several places where you can seat. Inside. Veranda. Lounge. The service was excellent. Great deserts. Vale parking. Price ok +

Todd Anderson

Solid food in a great fun date night venue

Mark Carter

Food was good.... staff was great.... but the whole table reservation thing..... very Chicago i was informed later. Made reservations.... came on time..... got seated not where we wanted... apparently this place seats people depending on how often you come in...i found out as i visit Chicago... it's a Chicago thing...lol Also the seating is a bit tight but not too bad.

Farheen Derni

One of our favorite places to eat in the city as the food never disappoints! Love their new location, sat on the outside area near the windows and loved it! We had the fresh summer rolls and sugarcane shrimp again which were tasty and fresh. Had the whole fish to share for 2 people which was the signature dish crispy red snapper. Asked them to debone for us and it was yum! The sauce was sweet and spicy - tasted very good with a side of white rice. Ended the meal with dessert - I had the opera cake and hubby had the banana dessert. Both were great! Highly recommend though is quite pricey!

Emeka Nzewi

First off... the food here is GOOD. Really Good!!! I am usually a skeptic when it comes to places where on the average of $$$ when u come out on date night. These places more often than not offer great service, probably some unique overpriced dishes which u try to convince yourself if they are actually that good food or great looking food. In Le Colonial it's good looking food and it is good food. Service was excellent. Cocktail selection is on point especially when you have a picky partner like mine. Only downside wad it was a little noisy for my liking but all the noise disappeared when I took the first bite into those juicy ribs and a sip of my cocktail

Stanley Rhodes

My favorite place for delicious Vietnamese food. It's so appetizing. There was fast and courteous service. Prices are fair I would say.

Nancy Powell

Good food and cool ambiance although very noisy on porch. Just FYI, make sure you ask for a wine list before ordering your wine. Not sure why but the food menus were dropped first both at our table and the one next to us without a wine menu. We took recommended Chardonnay by server instead of waiting to look at wine list which ended up pricey.

Connie Casillas

Great food. Been coming here for years. Beautiful new location

KMP in the World

Worst serving. I asked my server to serve napkin and water but he just ignored me. Food is good.

Natallia Basava

Ambience, food, drinks, service everything is on a great level

Bruce R

Excellent decor, ambiance and food. Nice without being stuffy or too formal. And such great food.

Kathryn Rezek

Great happy hour with $8 drinks and appetizers. The mushroom spring rolls are awesome. This may be my new home, lol

BRuss

Beautiful decor, exceptional service and delicious food. Even the Vietnamese coffee is great

Judy Y

Vietnamese food in a French colonial setting above Oak Street, plantation shutters and all surely transports you back to a by gone era.

Jonathan D. Nicholas

Elegant, quiet, upscale, and delicious! The curries, noodle, and rice dishes are oustanding. Several Vegan options on the menu. Treat yourself to their signature coffee.

Steve Forcione

This restaurant lives up to its name. You enter and feel like you have traveled back in time to French Vietnam. Every table was full and there was a buzz of enjoyment that filled the room. Dumplings, ribs, monkfish all were excellent starters. The noodles with filet mignon were heavenly. Apparently it is part of the lunch menu but they offered to make it for us for dinner. As a main course, we had a spice-crusted snapper. It was served whole and was a work of art. They offered to filet it but we preferred to eat it Asian style, peeling the meet off the bone with our chopsticks. The wine list was excellent. Memorable. Highly recommended.

Lydia Ginsbury

Great atmosphere and lovely food

Wang Houze

Surprisingly good food and romantic interior. Had the Pho and the grilled baby rib. The rib was excellent: the meat was succulent and full of flavors. The soup of the pho was top class the the beef was average. Overall excellent restaurant, probably a 4.5

Arrcee X

Outstanding Vietnamese food in a setting that makes you feel as if you are in a movie. Appetizers, pho, entrees were absolutely superb. Great wine selection and impecable service. Reasonable prices for downtown Chicago, including valet parking. Will definitely return.

Amie Krueger

Great Service and amazing GF Pho!

Sean Salehi

Great ambiance! Not to mention the spicy shrimp

Minh Truong

Excellent food and ambience

Dhanesh Bhoumick

Great ambiance and tasty food.

Julian Sanchez

Delicious food. The tuna tartare was amazing. We were a party of six and everyone loved their food. Drinks were great too

Ruchika Khattar

Found this gem in my search for a good pho spot on a rainy summer day. Little did I know that I was going to fall in love. The ambiance, decor, that stunning open patio, delicious and versatile food and warm service make this a no-brainer. Never have I wanted to not leave a restaurant as much as I did here ... whether alone or with a group, the place had this amazing welcoming vibe. Do yourself a favor and just go! Order whatever catches your fancy - the menu is not too expansive and everything we ordered - 10 dishes over two days - was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back

Jim Tschetter

My girlfriend and i were celebrating double birthdays and we decided to visit this new location on Oak. We arrived at 8:30pm for our 8:45 reservation and wanted to have a drink at the bar before sitting down for dinner. One of the problems with the old location was the tiny bar, but i dont think this new bar is much bigger. Of the approx 12 seats at the bar, 6-8 were occupied by people eating dinner and the other seats were people having cocktails. We stood behind people at the bar and had our drinks standing and waiting until 8:45 and then went to the hostess stand. The hostess was kind of snappy while informing us that there were no tables available and that we probably should probably go back to the bar. At 9pm i went back to the hostess stand and she said they still had nothing open. Finally at 9:10, we were seated and handed menus. Then the next long wait began. Atleast 10-12 minutes passed with no sign of a waitress. She finally appeared and apologized as she was busy. We had read the menu many times at this point and ordered drinks, apps and entrees all at once. It seemed like a smart idea as we didnt know when we would see her again. The drinks were delivered by a different worker, as were the apps. I wanted to get some kind of spicy dipping sauce for the pot stickers, but the waitress was no where to be found, so we ate them anyway. The entrees arrived and to me, they also tasted bland and i wanted some chili peppers to give it some flavor. Once again, our waitress was missing, so i flagged down a worker (manager i assume) who was wearing a suit who sent over some chili peppers. Our drinks were now empty and the waitress was no where to be seen, so i flagged the manager again who took our drink order. When we were almost finished, the waitress finally appeared to ask if we needed anything, which at this point we did not. However, a few minutes later we had finished dinner, the bus boy had cleared the table and we waited and waited to find the waitress so we could get our check. She never appeared and for the 3rd time, i walked over to the manager who was by the bar and asked him to please get our check. I left the waitress a 20% tip as i imagine she was swamped at other tables outside of our viewing area, but i felt frustrated at the total lack of service. Many many years ago, i worked at a busy restaurant and as a worker, it can be hard to service everyone if its busy. I wish she would have handed us to another waiter who was less busy. I feel like our night fell way short of our expectations as conversation between my date and i seemed to revolve around trying to find our server. The food was good, i would have preferred it to be spicier, but thats my personal preference. The ambiance is also really nice. Its dark and moody and perfect for a date night. However the service was poor and fell way short of what i would expect at a place such as this. I read other reviews and i would say that my experience is not common at Le Colonial as most people rave about the place. Will i go back? Im sure i will.....but i really hope that next time the service is better.

bob bub

Extremely small portion size for the beef pho. Broth was very sweet and unauthentic. Compared to pho in NYC it pales in comparison. The broth was flat and the noodles were terrible as well. Clearly designed to attract a wealthy clientele not exactly looking for the most authentic pho. Service was ok hence the 2 star.

Yu-Chung Chen

The duck noodle soup is unbelievable tasty! 10 stars for the noodle soup! Other dishes are also good! Come as a group of five and enjoy the night!

Zach Pittsenbarger

Food was all high quality. We were s group of 7 and were served our meals all at once and an attentive weight staff. Even desserts were good (much more French than Vietnamese influenced). My only criticism was the lack k if a coat room. It was a rainy day so many of us had umbrellas. Which made a bit of an obstacle course for others in a densely seated space.

Thunpisit Amnuaikiatloet

Every time in Chicago it a must for me to come here. It has been more than 5 times for me at this restaurant. Great customer services, amazing Vietnamese food with a reasonable price. Highly recommend getting pho, they use a very good quality beef and its only $10. Others menu are great too. Don’t need reservation for small group but highly suggest made a reservation for big group.

Tim Powell

Went to the bar for some drinks on our anniversary. Alfredo was fantastic. He is worth the visit alone. Chill atmosphere and great drinks.

Mayeth Llanes

Cozy place and fantastic food. Highly recommended.

Daniel Cannon

Vietnamese food and service at this place is super good. visited about four, it was not full. service is consistently good. it has a nice interior.

Naturally Exquisite

Exceptional....Quality, Service and Food and Stylish setting

Hugh Kohl

Great ambiance, service and food

Paul Zucker

The food is good but not outstanding. For the price, or should be better and the portions more generous.

Awad Hamdan

What a place! Appetizers were great right from the start and the entrees were perfect. Highly recommended.

Rosalie Schraut

Had date night with my husband and 15 yr old son. They both loved it, and we’ve eaten in Vietnam.

darryl marcus

Great food,service and atmosphere!

Linda Brazis

The best Asian restaurant in all of Chicagoland. The decor and the small plates and the service and the location make this an outstanding experience. Can't wait to go again

Barbara Pruitt

Vietnamese food... super tasty. Dropped in on Tues. I had a brother come into town and asked me to take him back here.

Juliana Engel

Recently moved from around the corner on Rush St., the new space boasts breezy, plantation-esque decor flanked with living tropical palms. Our experience was enjoyable, service was spot on. Staff is present, pleasant and available as a gentle tour guide. Silver cutlery, layers or textural elements from the cane backed chairs, ratan wainscoting, wood and leather accents create a luxurious yet approachable feel. Le Colonial food is full of bright, citrus, fresh flavours, with an abundance of fragrant herbs and minimal to no use of oil and dairy. The dishes are naturally healthy and meant for sharing, which chimes with the way we eat today. Meals are centred on rice, vegetables and fruits with key flavourings include soy sauce, fermented fish sauce, shrimp paste, lemongrass, ginger, chilli, lime, and several different varieties of basil, mint and coriander. There are Chinese and French influences from Vietnam’s colonial past. The specialty drinks and wine list are an essential feature, not just an afterthought. Must book your reservations right away and walk-in guests welcome. Chúc sức khỏe! To your health!

Marshall Van Alstyne

Seasoning on cubed filet mignon and chicken curry both outstanding, subtle and delicious

Martijn Bakx

The sea bass is really really nice!

Joe Imperato

A wonderful dining experience. Food is awesome.

nancy szalay

Love the new place vibrant energy and excellent food and people watching

Anthony Trinh

I'm Vietnamese and this place was aight... I'd say it seemed more French than Vietnamese but I also haven't eaten their entire menu. Classy place though.

Pamela Sullivan

One of my preferred locations for delicious Vietnamese food. Next time I'll be back with my coworkers. Prices are reasonable I would say.

Robert Lusk

There for drinks and appetizers only. Service was fair. Drinks were good. The vibe was off the chain.

Alexander Holmes

This is a great place. I went here after my graduation with my family and they were really accommodating with some last minute changes after a flight was delayed, the manager and server were both incredibly kind, their recommendations on food were completely on point, and all three courses and sides were delicious. The restaurant's atmosphere and colonial theme is also really intriguing.

Tiago Caravana

Super nice ambience and decoration. The food is perfect and Melissa, who served me at the bar, is Great too! Thank you

Carrie M

Outstanding, the new location brings the same vibe/cuisine surroundings are beautiful with a fresh new take and energy. GO!

Stephen Schmidt

You will not be disappointed unless you are relegated to eat in the bar area

Bulmaro Damaso

An elegant, cozy, welcoming hidden Gem in the hearth of The Goldcoast Chicago. The level of service,Food, Wine list and cocktails is beyond expectations. Is a most try restaurant in Chicago Excellent for dates Their wine list is well balance Food is so delicious Cocktails are on point

Laura Kantrud

I went here tonight with my husband and was very disappointed. They have crammed way too many seats into the restaurant, and are often pulling tables out so guests can squeeze into their spots. We asked to be moved because our first seat was in front of the kitchen door and it was very uncomfortable. Sadly where we moved to was no better. Everyone is on top of each other and there's no privacy to have a comconversation. I actually regret not just leaving right away because we couldn't just relax. Waiter was not very friendly and described the non existent beer list incorrectly. Also forgot an appetizer we ordered. Food was just average, the salmon needed sauce because it was on top of a pile of dry noodles. I'm disappointed we wanted our date night in the city here.

Stephan Kieu

We have been to all 3 Le Colonial Restaurants (SF, NY, and Chicago) and enjoyed them all. We visited this place over 10 years ago and loved it. On this visit to the windy city, we decided to have dinner there again. My first impression is that the ao dai worn by the front staff look too large and not elegant at all. The seating is a bit tight! The cocktail Le Tamarin was recommended and it turned out disappointing, I could not taste the tamarin. On the dinner menu, I wish the serving staff has more knowledge about the vietnamese name of the dishes. I ordered the Chao Tom in Vietnamese and had to translate to the English name for our server. The Chao Tom was decent. We ordered the Roast Duck and it was good, albeit tasted more Chinese than Vietnamese. The grilled eggplants was good, and so was the Rau Xao. The service was very good and attentive. However, we don't think that we'd go back there again. Overall rating is 3.5 out of 5.

Colleen O'Connor

This place was amazing. I should have made reservations but didn't (if you want I table, I'd highly recommend it) but they do have open seating upstairs. I ended up at the bar which was actually really enjoyable. Alfredo took great care of us there. Everything we ate was excellent but my favorite was the pho. You must get that if you go. We also tried their 'ravioli' appetizer which was also delicious. I'll definitely be back!

Avi Moskovitz

Great new digs but service was painful at the bar. I walked out and canceled my order.

Ryan Angell

Atmosphere is kickass! Really well done. Dress the part and come hungry.

Susan Mullins

Amazing food and service

Fiona T.

Great food and happening vibe. Our waitress was super nice but clearly stretched a bit thin, so the service was somewhat spotty. I'd come back anyway!

Damon Fultz

Great place and very good vietnamese cuisine!

Josh Han

Definitely returning when I'm back in Chicago. One of the best Vietnamese experiences I've had outside of Houston. Very bouje interior and the pho is delish.

KelliAnn Lotrich

Absolutely delicious. Every single plate was incredible. In our party we ordered 4 starters, 2 soups, 2 sides, several mains and desert. Perfect. Best Pho Bo EVER!!!!!

John Elias

Good food and service. More of an occasional upscale restaurant.

Allie Mahler

Delicious food in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend the spring rolls, chicken dumplings, and chicken curry. Wish I lived in Chicago as this would be a place I’d go back to often.

Martha Daniel

Le Colonial is a classic Rush Street "Gem" It's ambience is hard to match. I would describe it as lush and seductive with the fusion of Fench and Vietnamese cuisine. Try the "French" Martini its delicious. Service is great and if you can, sit outside the people watching is first class. If you want to impress a client take them here they'll talk about it for years to come. Le Colonial is one of my all-time personal favorites.

Alex H

Good food, fast service, nice atmosphere

It’s got a nice setting, comfortable and well decorated. Food is high quality and service is excellent. Only draw backs are that it is very small and sometimes your table is too close to another, and that the menu is a little confusing for someone who is not that familiar with the Vietnamese cuisine.

One of my favorite Chicago restaurants. It's a great date spot or location for a celebratory dinner. I'd suggest asking the waitstaff for recommendations on menu items, as the menu can be somewhat intimidating. With that said, I've never been disappointed with anything on the menu. It's on the pricey side, but the quality of ingredients, atmosphere and final product make a dinner at Le Colonial very worthwhile.

Food was amazing! Nice atmosphere and good location. The Thai chili margarita was sooo good.

A long time favorite of Vietnamese cuisine. Done with style and creative dishes that tickle the palate and served by an attentive staff. Recommend you book a table as it always seems to be full. There are a number of new Vietnamese places in Chicago which are also great. Le Colonial is convenient near the Gold Coast and a must visit place in a great foodie town.

One of my favourite places in a while. The food was 8/10 but the interior was 11/10 & service was prompt and courteous. Solid menu, not overloaded. Great location and during the day they have huge windows that open onto Oak, the high end fashion street.
