I was extremely skeptical when Koreana announced it was reopening with new management. Admittedly, the first few visits once they reopened were less than stellar. The staff was unprofessional, the food wasn't as good and overall the experience wasn't what I remembered. With that being said the last few visits/takeout orders have been phenomenal. They are definitely hitting their stride and are making some nice additions to the menu. If you've had a poor experience since the reopen I highly suggest you give them another shot. It is a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Amazing!!!!! I’ve seen kdramas with this food so often I wanted to try it, and now I have finally! Bibimbap with beef, and beef pot stickers. Miso soup!!! The food is amazing, the servings are pretty big. And the service was really good and helpful to understand what I would get. We’ll be coming back soon with my husband’s family. Thank you Koreana for a wonderful anniversary meal!

Koreana was quite possibly our favorite “special occasions” restaurant for more than a decade, and we have such fond memories of the place that we weren’t sure we’d ever return once new ownership took over. Then I happened to stumble upon some pretty positive recent reviews and decided we should stop in for my birthday dinner. Some of my favorite items have always been the veggie spring rolls, crabby spring rolls, fish cakes, and basic sushi rolls – the California and shrimp / cream cheese rolls were always so fresh, cold, and crisp. Both types of spring rolls, the fish cakes, and the beef yakisoba (another one of our staples) were excellent – just like they’ve always been. I also had a large order of Hamachi (yellowtail) which was super fresh and delicious. On the other hand, our server was pretty green (although very nice), the California rolls were just average, and the LA roll was a little weird – kind of mushy is the only way I can describe it. Sushi is so subjective, though, so we’ll just try a couple different rolls next time. I can’t quite give the new Koreana 5 stars yet, but we will be back, and I’d definitely recommend checking it out. The crabby spring rolls alone make any visit worth it – I’d eat them every day if I could. The new owners are clearly very nice, engaged, and dedicated people, and I have no doubt they’ll succeed.

After learning about the new ownership of Koreana, I am so glad that I came back to give them a try! I did not care for the previous owners as they were greedy, rude and nasty when I heard them speaking to staff behind the scenes in the past. New owners came out to speak with us tonight during our dinner and I have to say that they are some of the kindest and humble people you will ever meet and you can tell they love what they do. I love the new expansion of the menu and their sushi chef is awesome. You can definitely tell that he has crafted his skills from many years of experience and travels! The staff we had were nice and attentive as well eventhough the restaurant did get busy at times. I have been to many major cities and I have to say that this restaurant is right up to par with them! They are honing things in place beautifully. I will definitely be back to try more of the delicious menu! Appleton is lucky to have such a gem!! Oh yea, they finally got rid of that cheap paper cover on the tables as well.

I really like the Chap Chae(transparent noodles with green onions and beef) and seafood pancakes (seafood pajun) here. However, the quality of the dishes are sometimes not too consistent here. But overall still pretty good. They are my kind of comfort food. Also their tofu soup has bigger portions than other Korean places. Their barbecue is really good too, but a little more on the pricy side.

So disappointed with this restaurant. I was so excited to find out that they had re-opened. Being Korean i was like yes. Sadly to say that i will never order from here again. Growing up in Illinois there are tons of Korean restaurants to choose from. The price of bibiam bop was really high especially during the lunch time. $12 for 1/8 of cup of meat and all the veggies and on top of it 30 min for pick up. So the food was totally cold. I asked for well done egg and the yolk was running. Yuck. Save your money people.

We had Ger as our waiter/server and he was very down to earth, attemptive to our needs, kind and overall just a great person. He did very well at serving our table of 8. Love, love, love! Koreana is my go-to place. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu as I have eaten almost everything on it! My fave is traditional bibimbahp w/ chicken in a hot stone bowl or the poke poke bowl. You cannot get food this good or fresh anywhere else. I can tell they take great care of the quality of the food. If you haven't tried them yet, you need to! Attentive, friendly, down to earth people, and delicious, top quality dishes. Very highly recommended!

So sadly disappointed. The wait time from simply entering the establishment (no-one greats you immediately) to the insane amount of time it took to have a waitress even talk to us after we were seated was outrageous. No drink menu on the table so the waitress didn’t know what type of drinks could be made. After finally ordering drinks the waitress never brought them & I went to the bar to get them myself. (Bartender was great) Appetizer dishes were never brought out until after our dinner. I also tried to find a place on the website that I could send my concerns to and offer advice on the type of service we had been anticipating there, however the website said that it was not able to be accessed. We will not be back to this restaurant. This was a birthday dinner that we had been so excited for the opportunity to go to Koreana again.

I've ordered takeout from here in the past (which was great) but going in person? It was a whole new experience! Being able to chat with our waitress to get suggestions of of what we would like based on what we had previously tried was amazing. Discovered so many wonderful things! The sides were delicious, the poki poki bowl was HUGE and the fact that they grow their own micro greens for the sushi blew my mind. Talk about fresh!! I can't wait to go again, and bring more friends with me.

Apparently you can only have an enjoyable experience at this restaurant if you're Asian. Me and my girlfriend went to this restaurant and were treated very coldly from the moment we entered, and to top it all off he said at our table for 5 minutes with no waitress coming to attend to us, then a group of asian men into the restaurant and were immediately see it to the table next to it and immediately served the traditional Asian BBQ side dishes... when I questioned the waitress she said that they had a reservation. Really? Reservation that includes you having side dishes sitting there waiting for them? I am immensely hurt that this is the experience that I get in America in 2016.

First off, I have to say that I very RARELY write reviews, but I had such a good experience tonight I have to rave for a couple minutes! My husband took me to Koreana tonight for my birthday. It was our first time here and we were super excited to try it as we had planned on going last year but discovered it was closed. I am so glad it reopened! From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left, it was an exceptionally enjoyable experience. The owner greeted us and came back to our table multiple times to help us choose the right dish and answer any questions. Our waitress, Lacey, was so nice and provided excellent service for us as well. But the best part was the food! I had the Hawaiian Poki Poki Bowl and it was honestly one of the best meals I've had in my life. Definitely some of the most delicious food I've ever enjoyed. My husband absolutely loved his Korean Beef as well (although he said he wished he had gotten mine after I let him try it!) I can't recommend Koreana enough! Kudos to the entire staff for a wonderful birthday dinner experience.

I ordered one roll, to go, and was told it would be 30 minutes. I was very surprised when I was told the total was going to be $20. I got there exactly 30 minutes from when I called and had to wait and additional 20 minutes. I think I would have had to have waited longer if I hadn't asked when I would get me one roll after waiting 50 minutes. Not surprising, the roll was barely warm and overpriced. I absolutely loved the original Koreana, so that why I wanted to patronize the new one, but I will not be going back.

It is a highly recommended restaurant and Korean Airline crews at my hotel was going there to eat so that's why I followed. I ordered BiBim Bop lunch special and the price was good. However, it was pretty much all veggies and an egg. If you use a microscope you might find some beef. I counted 3 thin slices of beef. I guess that's why it's a lunch special. But like I said if it is so popular among Koreans it must be good but not the lunch special Bibim Bop.

My passion for sushi started in the 70’s in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, maki was the exception and sashimi was the norm. You always ate at the sushi bar, and sometimes, the chef behind the bar would break down a tuna or yellowtail in front of you, using precise knife skills. My first time sitting down at Koreana’s sushi bar, I noticed the chef breaking down a yellowtail, so I asked if he could whack off the collar and grill it for me. He replied; “I sure can! I’ll do it up nice for you!”. It was an amazing collar, charred grill marks, slightly pink inside and succulent, it needed no accompaniment. I then asked for a chefs choice sashimi platter and was floored that it included toro, buttery uni nestled in a cucumber flower, tender octopus, and a wonderful sweet shrimp on a spoon with umami flavors from goat cheese, heirloom cherry tomatoes, and basil sprouts. I’ve been to most of the sushi restaurants in north Wisconsin, Koreana is the ONLY restaurant with uncompromising quality and creativity. It’s not just incredibly fresh, it’s also gorgeous to look at! I dearly miss California sushi, but going to Koreana lifts my spirit and fills my desire to dine with my eyes as well as my pallet.

We have been to Koreans twice since the new ownership took over. While we loved the old Koreana, the new Koreana is even better. We are sushi lovers and they are offering amazing new sushi items like the Poki Poki bowl which is white and red tuna, salmon and avocado pieces over a bed of rice with an amazing sauce. Another great option is the Shibino which is a lightly seared white tuna with an amazing sauce. Best sushi outside of Chicago!!!

Me and my buddies were in the mood for sushi so with a friend's recommendation, we chose Koreana. We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by the manager as if she'd known us forever and made us feel welcomed. The ambiance was very relaxing throughout. They had a nice selection of beers. We started off with a few Japanese beers and sake in the bar and then moved on to dining. Our server was friendly and very informative about the menu and patiently answered all our annoying questions. Her service was attentive and awesome. She suggested the poke bowl so I tried it and was hooked from the first bite! My buddies got most of the huge sushi rolls from the menu. I tried the LA roll-- it was phenomenal! We also split the beef bulgogi at a spice 7 and it was delicious with some heat! This is the BEST place for sushi and bulgogi! We had a great time, great food and service. We will be back!

Disappointing, not at all like what I had for five years in Ulsan, Korea. Most if the plate was covered in onions with a couple of sliced carrots, snap peas and small broccoli sprouts and several small pieces of mushrooms, but tons of onions. NO GARLIC AT ALL!!! The meat was rather bland and there was no lettuce to wrap the meat or bean paste! Again, disappointing! Would not waste my time or money if ever again in Appleton. Too bad, I had such great expectations.

Came her with my dad and husband. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and explained some of the fusion items on the menu. I'm Korean and so is my dad, so he kicked it with traditional fare. The spicy tuna roll I had was good, as was the bi bim bap. I came her years ago when I was younger, and the interior was still nostalgic. The waitress was super nice and attentive, and the owner came back around to personally check on us to see how our overall experience was.

Food was delicious, but I am pretty upset by the fact that when I ordered the "veganized" Beef and Rice Cakes (remove beef and fish sauce), they charged me an extra $0.75. I also didn't receive the standard appetizers (since none of them are vegan). I am just surprised that I was upcharged for not getting a good portion of the stuff that normally comes with the meal. I understand if it was more work to make it, but I feel like the menu should state that there is an upcharge for making something vegetarian/vegan instead of just saying a dish can be made that way.

My boyfriend and I were mistreated poorly the minute we walked in. We were seated at a table in the far corner. Then our waitress asked us if we wanted hot or cold water. For what? Then a bunch of Asian men walked in, got seated right away and their sides laid out on their table. That's when my boyfriend finally said something. They told us that these guys had a reservation. High price, low quality, slow service. Food was greasy, not flavorful and mostly consisted of onions, a few vegetables and sparse low quality meat. They could not accommodate a substitution of vegetables for the side of rice - even though that is insanely easy and judging by the vegetables in my main dish, they could have easily doubled them instead of giving me rice I didn't want. I should have listed more positives, like when you made your rounds - I always appreciate that. At the time, I had barely dug in into the main dish, so I told the very nice gentleman (was that you?) that everything was 'pretty good so far.' I think that's reasonable. Had he/you come around later, I probably would have grimaced and said, 'It's ok ...' I don't know, customers generally don't like being put on the spot or made to feel uncomfortable so that's why we leave reviews here. I do feel for the server, and could tell she was new. Like I said, she was a dear - very nice and I agree she will probably be fantastic as she gains more experience. Regardless, it did affect the service, so I had to call it out. I'm not going to speak to your overall quality of food, but what I had on my plate was not quality. You're right, I had the Pork Bulgogi. On your video footage, you can see me at one point holding up what seemed like a 12-inch long strand of thinly shaved pork fat with some meat attached. I understand the food is fried, that doesn't mean it has to be soaked in grease - I expect that from a typical carryout place but your place seems too nice for that. For the vegetable assortment, I was your guest and the massive amounts of onions was not my favorite. My guess is that it's done more so because onions are less expensive. For the drinks, while they had a neat twist, but they were not $8 unique in my opinion - I appreciate the thought behind them though. For the vegetable substitution, I'm surprised to hear the hardship it causes since I almost never have an issue at other restaurants. I would have happily given you a few dollars more to give me $1 worth of extra vegetables, which you could have just cooked along with my main dish and not taken any extra time. Or heck, throw some raw sugar snaps in a bowl and call it good - there are several ways to accommodate simple requests without overly burdening your staff. Thank you again for the feedback. I can give you a call if you want to talk about ways to improve the experience and who knows, maybe that inspires a second try on my part and I can upgrade my review at a future date. Otherwise, if business is good, then my poor experience probably isn't a big deal and we can continue to happily move along our respective paths.

Tried Koreana for the first time today for lunch. Another review had mentioned a lunch rush and specials for $5.95. The lunch specials are now $7.99 (still not a bad value for what you get) and there was plenty of seating available. The menu is limited at lunch time, only about 12 dishes, all for the same price, which come with soup and some additional appetizers such as kimchi and others that I am not well-versed enough with Korean food to identify. My family enjoyed them, though. I had the beef bulgogi, which while not being the best I've ever had, was certainly good enough to enjoy, if a little plain. My wife loved the Bibimbap. I would definitely come here again, but not all the time.

Favorite Korean/sushi restaurant have never been to. Service was lightning fast, friendly and welcoming. Never have I met as pleasant and funny owner. He talked to us and explained everything from the way the food is made to his personal experiences running the restaurant. We ordered beef balgogi, shrimp pad thai, crunch roll, and the nine piece chefs choice sashimi. They were all incredible and my personal favorite was the crunch roll. Whether you like Korean food or not, this is a must try for a fun and memorable experience.

My sister and I came here because we were in the mood for sushi, and this one was near by and new to both of us. I liked that the menu had some different options. I tried a sushi roll with steak and carrots in it... it was alright, but my favorite thing was the kim chi fried rice. You have the option to make it as spicy as you want and we didn't go very spicy, but the flavor was awesome. I'll be going back

THEY STEAL ANYTHING YOU LEAVE BEHIND!!! A lady left her jacket at a table behind us and they took the jacket, but didn't clean the table, when the lady ran back in and searched the table and asked the people they acted like they didn't know what was going on. I wish my fiancée, who witnessed this, thought to mention this to the table before we left 'cause I left my new sunglasses on the table and when I came back just a few minutes after we had left, my sunglasses were gone, but our table hadn't been bussed yet. I was even able to remember exactly where I left them too. The people were of no help. It wasn't till then did he mention they did the same thing to the lady at the table behind us. The food was ok, if you like super fatty meats it's the place to go, but I have a huge taste aversion to gristle and fatty textures.

Forget about getting a decent service if you’re not Korean! I’m Lao and my friend is white. We waited 20 minutes for a table. Then waited some more when we were finally seated. We pressed the call buttons a couple of times and waited for at least about 15 minutes for someone to come and take our orders. We actually had to wave a waitstaff down! All the Korean diners got served immediately and they were waited on constantly! Once we got our food, our waiter just disappeared. Pressed the call button, no response, ever! Our grill rack started getting smokey and needed to be replaced but we were ignored. They only came over when I called them across the room. And they seemed irritated that they needed to actually serve us. Our rice and soup finally arrived when we were almost full! We never got our water glasses refilled. Other tables got a pitcher of water. At the end we had to walk to the counter to pay because no came back to pickup our check. We were the only two people that were not Koreans in that restaurant. We were so excited thinking that the food must be very authentic and looking forward to the experience. They were not short-staffed. The only person we saw working the hardest were the two Hispanic people cleaning the tables. So disappointed!

The best Sushi in Appleton by far, I've been to just about every sushi establishment in Appleton and some are good, decent and down right eww but Koreana is by far the best Sushi I've tasted in the area. Their Sushi chef definitely gets 5 stars from me. The service is fantastic, server was attentive and polite. Great customer service from the owner, he explained the menu and the Korean history. I was impressed with the entire ambiance. The Korean dishes were absolutely amazing, the spice in the bulgogi was spot-on. Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant, give yourself a flavorful treat. I definitely recommend this establishment and will be back many times for future visits.

6 of us visited there on our way back home from Door County (havent been there since having moved out of town a few years ago), and 1) I learned the they are under new ownership-very nice and friendly, 2) unfortunately the taste of all we the food ordered were definitely not close to what Koreana was previously reputed to be. I was very disappointed... we had more than half the food left uneaten. Possibly being that the cook was not Korean, he or she probably did not know how the dishes were supposed to taste...

Updated review ...Sadly when we visited sushi was not available. The food I had was comparable to that of the original ownership. But not having sushi available is a serious shortcoming. Maybe that is why business was really slow. Hopefully they pull out of this slump. ....UPDATE....My visit was in November as indicated in a response to my review and probably due to chef being out sick. The notice being posted on social media may be why they are so slow. I wish would have seen social media before visiting, as I stated no sushi is truly a shortcoming. A backup plan for the future would be wise.

Great place for some korean food in the suburbs! I've been here a few times and really enjoy it! Most of the food I've tried has been delicious and feels authentic. The kbbq here is pretty good, you grill it yourself and they'll give you lettuce and some sauce to make wraps if you want. Not the best I've had but still pretty good and price is fair. The soon tofu is a bit thin in my opinion and came bland one time out of 3 but they were nice about fixing it. I like their Chap Chae and seafood pancake albeit a but pricey. But portions are all large and filling. The decor is new, nice and clean, and they even have call buttons so service won't bother you which I really like! Overall a good experience and place for some Korean!

We went on a Friday during lent at about 6:00 PM. We were seated immediately and the waitress was very nice. The tables were clean. The jalepeno poppers were very good. The sushi was meh. The fish was not the quality you would expect from a $20 sushi roll. The flavors were bland and seemed to be trying to cover the sub par fish with spices and seasonings. I began to fill sick on the way home. Overall, very nice waitress but we will not be back as the food was subpar.

Used to be my favorite... I would have dreams about their sushi. Under new ownership and it's a total disappointment. After it reopened I wanted to take some friends who I had raved about the restaurant to. It used to be packed with guests, a long wait was expected, especially for sushi, but always totally worth it. We went on Valentine's Day and we were 1 of 4 tables... at dinner time... on a holiday... The wait staff was all new and sort of chain restauranty... The vibe was totally different. By the end of the meal, I was disappointed that I had raved about it so much to my friends. It was sub par, at best... both food and service. I won't be back, and I'm very sad about that.

As I'm reading the negative reviews, I couldn't disagree with them more. When I left, I was anything but hungry. In fact, I was stuffed to the brim with the most delicious, high-quality, authentic Korean food I've ever had. We got the dukbokki, galbitang, nakji bokkeum (my personal favorite), the pan-seared dumplings, and of course the banchan. All of it exceeded my expectations. The service was quick and to-the-point. My wife and I were visiting from CA, we decided to stop in because we were missing Korean food. We were pleasantly surprised with the variety of menu options. Our server, Jessica, was really friendly and helpful. We ordered the jjampong, tteokbokki, and gimbap. The side dishes were all really tasty . My korean wife (from Seoul) especially liked the jjampong, because of its authenticity and delicious seafood! I found it enjoyable to dip the gimbap in the tteokbokki. We will come back again. The food here is as close to Korea as you'll get in the suburbs, especially if you know the food well. I tried it expecting something a bit like any Americanized version of say, Chinese food, but no, their appetizers and dinner entrees were all fresh and very authentic. I especially like the little free tasting bites they provide before your meal. It gives you a good idea about all the pickled foods they prepare, not to mention some of the exotic flavors and veggies. Definitely a neat little stop among the many "restaurant countries" here in Schaumburg, haha.

After moving from the area, I was really excited to stop back at Koreana while visiting. The sushi menu didn't look familiar so I inquired about a roll I'd previously had. The server informed me that the restaurant was under new ownership and the previous owner didn't sell the sushi recipes with the restaurant. The bulgogi and sushi were good(not great). The reason I'm only giving 2 stars is because the service was terrible. Our server (I'll only refer to him as "hairdo") was really inattentive. After dropping our food off, he disappeared entirely until we were almost done eating. We weren't given soy dishes and we had a big stack of dishes(apps) that he just left on the table. We had a bit of sushi left when he did return so we asked if we could get some ponzu sauce for the remaining sushi. Despite not getting it until we were done eating, we were charged $3 for it. Maybe I've got too high of standards after working 15 years in the industry, but hairdo should probably find a job that a better fit for his skill-set because he is a very poor server.

They always ask if I’d like more of the side dishes and bring tea without one asking for tea. If you have never tried this type of food, then you are missing out. I just moved here from Texas and we would get Korean food every week. Once we moved here we could not find a place that had Korean food. I found Koreana on Google and WOW it was AMAZING!!! The food was DELICIOUS and my 4 year old ate Everything! It feels like I am back home in Texas at our old restuarant. There was top notch service. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. We will be back a LOT and HIGHLY recommend to everyone. OUTSTANDING food and service :)

I have been going to Koreanas since I was 3 years old with my parents and now I am an adult. I took my mother out for birthday dinner to reminisce our favorite place and we both purchased the Bi Bim Ba(?). We discovered the place was under new management and the restaurant was slightly renovated and our service was good HOWEVER- the dish was served cool, not "lukewarm" and the rice was like rubber and stuck together in the shape of a frisbee.. it was horribly dry and definitely NOT worth the $17 I paid for both.. But! For a dollar or two extra, you can get it warmer and served in a rock bowl?? Why am I paying extra for the temperature I want my food? I expressed my dissapontment with both the sever and the cook/ what I believed to be the manager. He told me I should have asked the server for help when ordering... I could have made the SAME THING at home for probably $3.. Definetely not worth taking my mother out to eat and spending over $40 on a meal I wasn't even the slightest bit impressed with. I was offered to get a replacement meal of the same thing but I didn't like it, wished the manager would've done the logical thing and gave me at least $20 worth of vegetables and rice back. Will not return to this business again.

This restaurant is the best! Very friendly staff, fast service, wonderful atmosphere! My husband and I came to celebrate our 34th anniversary. The food was amazing! I had the delicious Kimchi jiggae and we both shared the Tokyo Drift (chef choice sashimi). The dish was so beautifully prepared and the fish was top quality! My husband and I both agreed that it was the best fish we have ever had since the first time we started eating sushi. It's worth the time to visit this wonderful restaurant that we have in the valley! This is our favorite spot now since discovering Koreana!

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Appleton. I haven't had sushi better than this anywhere else in my life, not even on the West Coast. All of the sushi is amazing. The shrimp tempura is also some of the best. The service is always excellent. I've been coming here with my family on a consistent basis since 2004 and they've never failed to impress.

On high recommendation, I brought my wife here for our anniversary from Milwaukee, so it was about an hour and a half drive for us, so this sushi and food was going to have to do a lot to impress me. I had heard great things about Koreana, but when I got there it was night-time and the sign was about half-lit in the middle of a strip mall, so I wasn't expecting anything too extraordinary... What I got was an eye-opening experience that re-imagined my take on sushi and redefined my idea of "gourmet". I went in there, just expecting to get some regular ole' tasty sushi and maybe some korean bibimbap to pair it with. I ended up getting quite a bit more than that, in both food and experience. We ended up ordering the "Orange Blossom" roll, shinobi roll, an arrangement of sashimi, one order of the galbi short rib, one order of the galbi long rib and the beef tataki. Koreana puts a fine twist on the sushi cuisine you usually see in normal sushi joints. Apart from your standard sushi menu offered at many sushi joints, Koreana also offers a sushi menu (it's on the top right page when you open the menu to the "sushi" section 9.10.18) with french and italian cooking methods (I only know this because the owner personally told me) and influence that bring sushi to a whole 'nother level. The "shinobi" sushi entree is one of these items. It's seared "ono" that comes with a light, but amazing dipping sauce. It'll open your eyes. Personally, when I took a bite, my eyes involuntarily closed and a slight squeal of delight escaped my lips. This may have happened more than once with the shinobi roll and a few other menu items. While I had the owner there, I told him our night that night was a special occasion (my 1st wedding anniversary), so I wanted to go big. I ended up getting: yellowtail, salmon, toro, tuna and big white tuna. I asked for it as an appetizer. The owner recommended to me with sashimi: "When you eat sashimi, you should eat it with a bowl of HOT rice because it amplifies the flavors and really brings out the essence of the fish." I never knew that, but I told him I'd be getting rice with the galbi short ribs I'd ordered earlier. When the sashimi came out, the owner swung by AGAIN (five stars for personal service) and brought out a hot bowl of white rice, just so I could enjoy it to its fullest! When I tried the chef sashimi special "toro" which is a belly cut of the tuna and it was the single most delectable piece of fish I have ever eaten. The meat was incredibly fresh and the fresh flavor of the fish stuck with me and was followed by a bite of hot rice which enhanced the richness of the fatty marbling even further. Now this is what blew me away even more. My wife, who does NOT eat raw fish, saw my reaction, the cut of fish and the marbling and could not resist trying the toro, either. She tried it with some soy sauce and hot rice and the dish produced the same results. She was astounded. This led to her trying EACH of the other sashimi's we'd ordered, and her newfound love for sashimi was born. The owner asked me in private if we had a special song and played the song for us while we ate. I'd never felt so taken care of before in a restaurant, and while this experience may not be the same for everyone, you can tell just by these gestures that the owners really do go the extra mile to make your experience something out of a movie or fairy tale. The care we received from EACH of the staff members spoke volumes about the atmosphere of the restaurant, and how well the management train and care for their staff, because each staff member cares about the success of the restaurant, as well. In summary, the food and service was definitely worth the almost two hour trip, and it is a trip I will be making time and time again. I will definitely be back, bringing many of my friends and family to experience this wonderful gem of a restaurant, as long as it stays as amazing as it is.

Koreana is one of the best restaurants in the Fox Valley, hands down. That was true under the previous ownership, and it is doubly true under the current owners. They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet, and the food is just amazing. Adjectives fail me, but I can promise that if you were an OG Koreana fan, you will be even more of one after eating here again. The sushi is excellent, and I've learned to love vegetarian sushi from their menu. Please go check out this wonderful local restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

I'm so excited that Koreana has reopened!! I had lunch there today and the food is still great. There's a nice array of side dishes that come with the lunches, all of which are yummy,especially the egg rolls. Those are super crispy and just crammed full of flavorful,crunchy veggies. The server was quite friendly and professional. I ordered the Bi Bim Bahb with purple rice...loved it! But that's not even the best part...the owner made a personal visit to our table. My friend thanked the chefs for attending to her food allergies. He made the comment that he is more than willing to adapt his menu for vegans. He's a great guy and so I'm getting the word out to my vegan friends out there.....come on down to Koreana

Update: August 2019. We did return to Koreana to give them another chance. The food was really good and the server was very attentive. We were so looking forward to their food tonight as a special birthday dinner for my husband. We were seated at 5 pm, and there was only one other family of four there and they were just finishing up. The only waitress we saw walked by and ignored us a few times, until I said hello loudl and asked if we could get waited on. We ordered water and a glass of wine. She brought one water, and the wine never came, nor did she. After a total of 17 minutes there, we left. Super disappointing. We went to another Appleton restaurant where they were attentive and happy to have our business. Hope this was just a fluke Koreana!

Love Koreana! As a transplant to the Fox Valley/Appleton area this has been an awesome haven of delicious international food for years. Ownership changed last year but thankfully things seem to be clicking again on the service side and food continues to be amazing.
