The patio is the best! So extra points for that. It’s roomy and in the back rather than by the street where all the fumes from the passing cars add to your meal. We tried the chicken strips - very tasty and tender. The Caesar salad was good. The coleslaw (with kale) was ok - it had some flavor we didn’t care for, might have been fennel. Would come again for the food and the patio! :)

This place is super awesome. The place makes you feel right at home. The chicken tastes great and they have a decent selection on the menu. They offer decent wages to their staff which is great and rare in the restaurant industry. The aesthetic of the place has a home kitchen vibe, and the patio area is pretty cool with overhanging lights. Overall, I'd consider this place one of those hidden gems of Chicago.

Great tasting fried chicken and quality fast service. Their sides are each great in flavor and unique. The portions may seem a little small when you receive your order, but after 2 wings and a side (not to mention the corn bread that automatically comes with your chicken) you are surprisingly full. From ordering to sitting down, it may take only about 5 minutes to receive your food, 10 minutes tops which I think is pretty fast given the quality of the meal. Only complaint is that the place is pretty small so if you come during peak times you can be waiting a while to find a seat since it's pretty popular now. So do plan ahead for that by coming before or after peak times. They also offer take out too! If you aren't trying the honey butter with the chicken and corn bread, you're wasting your money and time here because that's the whole point of this great place!

Delicious.. soooooo yummy! Seriously I am a big fried chicken fan and this place has one of the best in town! We found it by coincidence but I am so glad we did. We went there for brunch and tried the biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles.. it was delicious! They have a great patio in the back to chill and enjoy the nice summer. Super attentive and friendly staff!! Definitely coming back

Hands down one of the best friend chicken spots I have ever been to. Chicken is juicy, lightly spiced and has a fantastic crunch. The breading actually sticks to the chicken. The honey butter is simple but tastes amazing on the chicken and the biscuits.

Terrible service: please allow your customers to settle on a seat before serving drinks or food instead of while they wait in line. Allowing minors to be settled around the bar. Needs major seating rearrangement in order for everyone to be comfortable not only to eat but to wait to be seated.

Lovely restaurant! Dog friendly, enter via Roscoe St. entrance, wooden gate opens out to street. Must go inside to front of restaurant to order, they will give you a number to place on the table of your choice, either inside or on back patio, and they bring your food and drinks to your table. They have dog bowls for the pups and a magnetic wall with letters for kids to keep themselves entertained! Cocktails start at $9 and beers start at$6. Brunch, lunch and dinner menu! Tipping isn't allowed as they say it should be expected!

Food is ok but nowhere near worth the 25$ price tag for a chicken sandwich. A side. Some biscuits. I’m not even close to being cheap, it’s just completely outrageous. Save yourself 1/2 the money and get a Popeyes chicken sandwich. This place will be out of business when its mystique runs dry.

The only reason I came here is because my boyfriend wanted to try on your chicken spot after seeing this place on Instagram. Honestly I was very hesitant because the food didn't really look like all that. mashed potatoes were okay but I feel like they could have had a little more salt. Mac and cheese was not that great. They are using some type of orange cheese and it just isn't my type. My boyfriend had the OG chicken sandwich and I have the honey Buffalo. I feel like my honey buffalo chicken sandwich was overpowered by all the other condiments in it and I couldn't even taste the chicken. Also the chicken seemed kind of wet? I guess because of all the condiments. All in all I don't know if $55 is worth it for 2 people. Ive been to Fry the Coop and I feel like that was better honey butter fried chicken for a better price rather than here.

Ordered a plain honey butter fried chicken sandwich and the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese. The sandwich was good and I'm sure all their variations on the sandwich are delicious but the Mac and cheese was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I was merely passing through Chicago and I'm making a special stop on the way back just to get that Mac and cheese again. So good I might even get two orders. The bar in the back seemed pretty chill and the patio space seems like it would be nice in better weather.

I'm so disappointed as I had high hopes for this place. Good location, cool vibe, creative looking menu, etc. But, the fried chicken was some of the most boring, average-tasting fried chicken I've had anywhere. It's not even made to order, which is a big red flag when it comes to fried anything, as I received my two pieces of chicken within a minute of ordering, and they weren't piping hot out of the fryer and clearly had been sitting. For $9 you get two tiny pieces of chicken, and quite frankly I don't care how GMO-free and responsibly raised chicken is when it's completely devoid of flavor, in terms of both the meat and the coating. You don't need to go far or even try hard to find a better place for fried chicken, and dare I say several of the common fast-food chains actually do a better job than this spot which is incredibly disappointing. The pricing isn't great either, since your options are $9 for a drumstick and a small breast, which I'd barely call a snack, or $17 for 4 pieces which is closer to an actual meal. And all the sides are about $5, which makes this some of the most expensive fried chicken in the city. Sorry, but you're nowhere close to Atlas Chicken Shack, or Brenda's Chicken Coop, or hell, even Harold's or Cane's. On the plus side, the little cornbread guys were quite good.

What a delight! I went 90 blocks out of my way to try HBFC, and it was absolutely worth it. The OG chicken sandwiches were moist, juicy, well-seasoned, and topped with a great tangy slaw. We tried the pimento mac and the creamed corn with Thai green curry, both of which were delicious. I finished off with a honey vanilla rum milkshake (with a very generous pour). I would go back every day this week for more, if I could.

I'm not a huge chicken lover, but I love this place. All the sides are fantastic too. Also, the service is great. You typically see the same people working, so I think they're treated well and it shows. The only downside is that the wait for a table is sometimes long, but I've always had the food come out quickly.

Wanna set the expectations right. I moved from Atlanta here. So my expectation for biscuit and gravy is definitely high; one is because I miss the dish and the other is i like fried chicken. But the fried chicken strip was not juice and the biscuit is not as soft as I anticipated. But the seasonal mimosa was great. So I added another star for it. (Maybe I just have to order fried chicken sandwich anyway.)

The chicken is well prepared, and the selection is definitely all its own... very tasty, but very rich. They use good ingredients, so it's a little pricier than many fried chicken spots, but only because they are higher quality. Just know that the butter chicken comes with LOTS of butter.

I was listening to an episode of something-or-other on NPR where they were discussing reinventing Chicago-style Pizza (good luck with that) and they had mentioned Honey Butter Fried Chicken. I was in the neighborhood working so I figured I'd stop in and check it out at first. Initially I was discouraged by the cost of the basket of chicken strips then I saw the basket of chicken strips and I was pleasantly surprised the quantity of chicken, the atmosphere, the cost, and the great taste all added up to five star experience. I highly recommend this place to Chicago natives and visitors from abroad!

If you are looking for a fried chicken place, this is one of the best or the BEST OF ALL. The atmosphere is very cozy, the service is fast, but as this place is very busy you will probably have to make a line to ask for a table, however the ordering system in the cashier is quick. For people who like to eat alone, well we advise this place, because you share a table. I seemed to be in a camp hehe. But I love it and the chicken is second to none and the homemade Lemonade is deliciously.

My experience at honey butter Fried Chicken was not all that as I expected. As a food blogger and a chef I was expecting the restaurant to be filled with life and expecting an aroma of the food. I was very shocked that the restaurant was empty and didn't have a Aroma food smell. I have seen lots of other food bloggers talk about this place and they gave it good reviews. The food overall was very tasty and the price off the food was a little crazy. Like two wings for $10. That's why I came on a Wednesday for the 10 wings for $10. When I received my sweet tea the beverage was warm not cold. Also the soda from the soda machine had a man after aftertaste that was not that Pleasant. Will I ever come back to the place? Maybe? Overall it was an experience to try and I recommend people to try it if they like it or not. If I do come back the next time I would like to try thire chicken sandwich.

This place is amazing! The chicken is really delicious, and the honey butter adds the perfect touch. The order is made to order so it is hot on the plate. The mini corn muffins are good too. The staff is very friendly and easy to engage. They consistently check in to make sure that everything is up to par, and it was! I will definitely come back.

I knew it when I saw the homogeneous line out the door at the intersection of Roscoe and Elston-- this place is an overrated gentrified beer bar with (barely) average bar food. The basket of chicken strips looked like a day old fish fry, and it was indeed dry and flavorless with a thin coating of breading. The kale cole slaw had trendy pomegranate waste on top and again tasted like nothing. The sauces might as well have come from KFC. This place is more evidence of how Americans will flock to anything that offers an appearance of authenticity combined with a bar.

This place had been on the TOP of my to-visit list for the last four years, so I was super hyped when I finally came. We came on Saturday at 3pm, and the place was (surprisingly?) packed with a line almost out the door. Luckily, it moved quickly while we browsed the super cute menu, and the ordering process was fast and easy. We waited about 20 minutes, a bit long imo, for our 4-piece chicken, pimento mac 'n cheese, and kale and cabbage slaw. The chicken with honey butter was average. It was very thickly battered, didn't have flavor, and just a tad bit dry. The whipped honey butter tasted just as I would imagine. We got some honey mustard as well, and I actually preferred that to the honey butter. The pimento mac 'n cheese was cheesy without being too thick, and the kale and cabbage slaw gave us the freshness that we needed in the meal. The corn muffin was quite crumbly and tasted great with everything. Leaving Honey Butter I felt a bit underwhelmed, especially with the hype and after paying almost $40 for the food, but I was still satisfied I got to try this place out. The food is good, but don't expect anything mind-blowing. PS. Although this was an order-first-and-seat-yourself place, it was nice to see signs that said no need to tip because they pay their employees reasonable wages!

A comfort food experience. Good physical area for comfort dinning. Patio is large. Order your food and it is delivered to your table. Good for groups. Street parking seems adequate.

The fried chicken is bomb here. They have a rotating brunch menu and Sunday mornings are the best to come by quick service, food was fresh and the servers where awesome. They pay their employees fairly and the tip is included in the prices so no need to tip. The Bloody Mary was deliciously paired with the fried chicken sandwich.

We had been recommended this place a lot when we first moved to the area and we decided to go for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. We didn't have a wait on a Friday around 6. First off, it's a really cute place. I absolutely love the back patio. It's gorgeous. Their menu doesn't have a whole lot of variety, which is fine, but just a heads up if you have a picky eater. The food was good. I got the 2 piece chicken with the mashed potatoes and enjoyed it. I got a sweet tea and received something that tasted like iced tea with a grain of sugar in it. When you're eating some southern tasting food like fried chicken some sweet tea sounded amazing but it did not live up to the expectation. (owners, if you are reading this, actually make sweet tea instead of just giving us iced tea with sugar in it. That's gross. Especially at $3.50.) TL;DR: cute place, quite expensive, drinks aren't good.

This is my Favorite. Chicken. Spot. In the entire city. Nothing beats HBFC's exceptional chicken sandwich, topped with honey butter. Ever. It is out of this world good, and will leave you wanting more every single time. The drink portions are rather small (They fill up half the cup full of ice and put in just a smidge of lemonade, which is a shame), but the food makes up for it.

I came in the restaurant with an open mind ready to experience the chicken almost everyone was talking about. The atmosphere was really welcoming. At first the prices were decent due to the area so I expected the quality of the food to be tasty. But i was wrong. I ordered the 4 piece chicken with a side of mash potatoes. The chicken in my opinion was moist (I give them props for that) but it was just boring. No flavor at all. The butter that came with the chicken didn’t enhance it because of how boring it was. At the end of day here are my positives, Honey Comb cornbread was amazing, the mash potatoes were alright with the hint of honey I believe, and the chicken was moist. The negatives are that the chicken was straight no flavor and no wow factor. Dont believe the Hype.

Not impressed, not even a little bit. Almost 50 bucks for some tasteless over fried chicken. The mac and cheese was dry. The only good thing was the honey butter. The guy who seated us had a little attitude because I asked him to repeat himself since I couldn't hear him when he was talking. Food was brought out timely and the woman who brought it out was super nice. The place always looks busy because lack of tables. The cashier looked miserable and had no personality. I only give 2 stars because of the woman who brought our food was the only good thing. This place is over hyped and over priced. Highly disappointed!!

My first time here was great! It was packed and the chicken was cooked nicely (not overly fried) and found seats quite easily. The second time I went was a different story ... a few of the chicken pieces looked way too dark because it was in the fryer for too long and they weren’t even busy. The consistency of the chicken isn’t there besides the honey butter itself. I love how the honey butter tastes on the chicken, it’s the best part.

If I could give this place a zero star I would. I spent $52.00 on garbage . The chicken was over cooked and whoever cooked it must not know about seasoning not a ounce of seasoning on the chicken. The Mac and cheese was dreadful and the only thing good about the mash potato was the gravy. I would never come back to this place . They need to invest in seasoning salt , pepper, garlic powder, season salt, and a dash of slap your mama seasoning. Don’t wast your time going here

The food was great, and the service was even better. The chicken, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes were excellent. My wife gave up her seat for a larger family, and the manager noticed and caught us on our way out to give her a cookie to go on the house. Very impressed with Honey Butter Fried Chicken!

I've heard people recommend Honey Butter Fried Chicken. I had the impression that it would be unique but I have to say I found it underwhelming. Simple food menu. I didn't find the chicken to be anything special or very different from what you can get at many other places. There's something about adding butter, of any kind, to fried chicken that seems like a not very bright idea. With that said, prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and the patio seating is nice. One of the few places I've been where they don't accept tips. Free street parking is available.

Def worth checking out once or twice to see what their food is about. The wait times are usually a turn off. Outdoor seating is available and they do serve alcohol. Not moderately priced. Staff does their best. I would say stop by if you have a lot of time.

Fantastic food and a nice space with plenty of outdoor seating. Comfort food but with creativity. Service charge is included in prices (no tipping). Good drink options. Ideal place for a different twist on brunch (good mimosas) or for a casual gathering with friends.

Prices are a little higher because tip is included in the price of the food (service is great by the way). I was skeptical too, especially coming from Memphis where fried chicken is BOMB, but this was pretty good! The chicken was seasoned well and juicy. My favorite thing though we're the honey biscuits. I wish I could have taken a bucket of those home with me!!

Chicken here is crispy juicy and great service whether you are dining in or carrying out. They have table and bench seating where it's mostly self service and they bring the food to you. Casual atmosphere but staff here are very friendly.

This place is off the beaten path for tourists, but I make a point to go there whenever visiting Chicago and OMG... it's so worth it! Chicken is fried to perfect crispiness and the biscuits are just the right sweetness. And the honey butter... so so good! We tried the side of sweet chili sauce and that gave it a good zing too! Must try!!

The 2 piece was good and it was something new. Chicken was juicy and had a nice crispy layer on the outside. The cornbread was tasty just wish there was a bit more of it. When I go back I will try the kimchi chicken sandwich!

My favorite fried chicken place in the city. You can’t go wrong if you order their fried chicken strips with biscuits or any of their fried chicken sandwiches. They also have a good selection of dipping sauces which are bomb. The place is always packed during the afternoon so it is always a good idea to come prepared for a short wait. Behold the OG.

Really good modern twist on classic fried chicken. A little bit pricey but you definitely leave very full and satisfied. The honey butter on the chicken is something new and delicious I hadn't experienced before! I can see this place getting crowded so be sure to plan ahead.

Nice crispness to the batter with a hint of spice. Moist on the inside. Their honey mustard sauce is heavy on the mustard. The Wisconsin blue cheese heavy on the blue cheese. The corn bread is crunchy on the outside but not large enough to have a nice moist inside. Maybe a little too crunchy. I used the apple cider mimosa to wash it down, and I can’t say I was a fan of it.

Went in at 8:30pm, there was no line, and it was easy to find a seat. Had the OG sandwich, their most popular, and it was amazing. Had to also get the muffin pack, which consisted of 5 mini cornbread muffins, and a small cup of honey butter. Very delectable!

We finally had a chance to try them out and we were not disappointed whatsoever. The chicken was moist and crispy without being greasy. I love the boneless chicken breast. The corn muffins were very tasty and the mashed potatoes and gravy was phenomenal. Being a hot sauce guy, I really loved there bottled hot sauce and bought one to bring home. I guess the only negative would be the price point. A 4 piece meal (including honey butter and 4 corn muffins) and one side is about $21. But I'm more than glad to pay for quality. Service was awesome and the young lady that seated us was attentive to my wife with physical limitations and made sure she had a seat immediately. Our new place for exceptional fried chicken.

The prices were steep for what was given. I really liked the bloody Mary, but that little cup was $10 and the small beer slingback was $2. 8 pieces of chicken were more than $30 and the sides were extra. I had heard so many good things from people who had gone to this restaurant before. So I was looking forward to the meal. But now I think it's just because everyone else says it's so cool and good, that others are agreeing more than is true lol... The chicken was dryyyyy. The beautifully colored crust made me sad cus it wasn't flavorful. The dipping sauces shouldn't be NEEDED to make the chicken moist. It was stringy and dry. (The dipping sauces were tasty though) The sides were good. If I came back again with money to burn, maybe I'd just order lots of little side dishes, not their namesake chicken. Stopped in today for a quick lunch. After spending time in New Orleans and accustomed to the "hole in the wall" look, I felt at ease when I first walked in the door. I was certainly not disappointed! The flavor was great and the chicken was fried to perfection. Make this place a "go to" for some good fried chicken!

Ooooo Weeee. This was really really good. I am glad that it met my expectation. The portions good and the food doesn't take to long to come out after it's ordered. I had the honey butter fried chicken with a side of the slaw and Macaroni. The slaw wasn't that great to be honest but I really liked the Macaroni and cheese! Very open and friendly vibe and the outdoor seating is the best when it's warmer out. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.

With the rave reviews I was soo excited to try a new chicken spot and really wanted to love this place. However, I'm disappointed to leave a less than satisfied review as my meal was not what I expected. The food was hot as it arrived at the table, but the chicken was just ok (wouldn't describe it as delicious), the "honey butter" tasted like just plain butter, the cornbread muffins were dry and hard, and the mac and cheese was the worst part for me. Not to mention the prices were outrageous, $9 for 2 pieces of chicken??!! After this experience, I will not be back and I doubt I'll recommend this place to others

The fried chicken was not crispy at all. Kinda soggy, no flavor, no heat, the two muffons were dry. I wouldn't go again. Grocery stores have better fried chicken.
