The BEST Korean Restaurant in Chicago! For the past two years that I have been in Chicago, I was on a hunt to find the best Korean BBQ place and Gogi takes first place! PROS: 1. Nice staff - the owner, his wife and the entire staff provides great customer service and is very efficient 2. Food - IT IS THE BEST KOREAN BBQ IN CHICAGO. I suggest ordering the samgyeopsal, the pork is thick and juicy. 3. Price - This is a $$ kind of restaurant but you are also getting your money’s worth! 4. Ambiance - on the outside it might look like a small place but when you go in the restaurant, the place is clean and quite large too. I would recommend this place and I will come back here again and again and again!
Good food but a bit smoky, for some reason they wouldn't use the over table venting system at the large tables. The room was freezing because even though the the vent fans were off the vent was still open.
網路上說芝加哥最好吃的韓式BBQ。
(Translated by Google) Food is good, taste is good and price is expensive (Original) 음식도 푸짐하고 맛도 좋고 가격은 비싼편
The best korean bbq food I could possibly get! I would recommend Galbi and Chicken Thigh to cook top of grill.
Very good food and fun place to experience Korean BBQ. If you're comfortable with sitting on the floor get the floor seats for an even better experience.
Tasty little Korean BBQ spot. Looks rough, but food is delicious.
Maybe I went at a bad time but its usually not a good sign when a Asian place begins charging you for rice. Having a friend live in the area and feeling like Korean food, I tried this location. The prices are moderate, the decor nice, but the food needs work. Not enough meat and food given for the price. The meat was further not marinated enough and all the other food was fairly bland and greasy. The seafood pancake though was excellent and the wait staff was attentive. But you have the feeling of a business that cutting corners to survive.
Loved the experience and the food!
Nice ! Good food and service
First time eating Korean bbq and it was a good experience! The food was delicious, all the sides where good and it was decently priced for the portion size! Glad it’s only a short walk from the house!!
I guess I have to be the first one giving a bad review. And here's why... The server had very bad communication skills. I figured it's the language barrier, but no - she didn't want to answer my questions. Like for example " Why can we fire up the main grill?" Just like everyone else in the restaurant. Instead me and my girlfriend having portable peace of crap. I came to make my food on charcoal grill because the food taste better. But she just walked away saying something we couldn't understand. The food was mediocre, nothing compared with Cho Sunok. My next question was - if we can get more side dishes. As I know those are always unlimited? Anyway the server gave me some bbq paprika sauce instead. The bulging so called the signature dish that everyone loves, was very plain like it was missing the flavor or not marinated enough. Also seems like she was on a hurry taking away our dishes without even asking if we're done eating. Not to mention that she didn't ask if we want more rice knowing we barley have any left. To me very poor service, not the best food. Pretty bad experience taking my girlfriend for a dinner after the Valentine's Day.
They are located in a hot bed for both culture and cuisine in the West Rogers Park area, and is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the Chicagoland area for incredibly authentic Korean side dishes 반찬, and a large, unique offerings of Korean BBQ 고기구이 choices. The decor has a hipster, industrial look, the sounds of the exhaust fans and the lovely smell of meat grilling from the Korean BBQ tables are immediately noticeable. This restaurant has limited seating because it's a small restaurant, it's kept very clean, with really fast and friendly service that gets the food out quickly with expert preparation. Their prices aren't cheap, but you get large portions with their entrée dishes with high-quality ingredients. I've had everything on the menu, you can't go wrong with any selection. So come here hungry for Korean food that you would definitely have to go to some of the very best Korean restaurants in South Korea to experience, and leave incredibly satisfied with perfectly balanced flavors still exploding on your taste buds. Don't be afraid to let out a belch (with your hand over your mouth PLEASE) after your meal on the way out the door, it's a perfectly acceptable Korean customer to show sincere appreciation to the chef for a fantastic meal in South Korea. The after dinner belching in Korea that usually occurs for an hour or two after a large meal is considered a "second tasting", and is really enjoyed as part of their unique Korean culture. English and Korean spoken.
Great food and excellent service. What more can I ask for?
I recommend the pork belly at any of the traditional Korean dishes. Great service friendly staff reasonably priced
Very disappointed in quality of food served at Gogi, it's average at the best. Don't quite understand how they get rave reviews.
I love the food.
One of the best of Korean BBQ in Chicago
Food is great but don't go too late. Service feels like it diminishes after a long workday. Go during the morning if you want peppy service. Night if you want to be left alone to eat
Great food, good place to have BBQ with friends and great customer service & remember to reserve a place
Excellent service and suburb food!!
Good Korean BBQ and great service.
Everything we had was great. Definitely one of the better Korean BBQ places I've been to. The marination is on point. Service was outstanding.
Terrible! Food was too salty.
This place is overpriced. Quality is also not as good as Cho Sun Ok.
Love this place! Just recently went there for my Spring Break vacation. The owner was very nice and the employees were also nice. I would definitely go back when I have time to go back to Chicago. Also the food was very delicious!!
Took my gf kn a date and the waitress made our first kbbq experience grea and taught us how to cook our food. She was amazing. Definitely coming back soon.
Gogi has really good service and really good meats. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it! Get the LA-style Kalbi short rib!
This was my first Korean BBQ experience. I liked it! Good food. Fun experience. The pork belly was the best.
Muy Buena comida coriana
The food was fine, nothing exceptional. Service was very good. Prices were much higher than other Korean BBQ places.
very good Korea bbq.
It was very good. Woman who served us suggested ways I could eat even though I cannot have gluten and dairy. The portions are big enough to share. We ordered way too much food.
Food was amazing!
The best breakfast I would recommend to everyone
awsome korean bbq
dirty like a fast food restaurant. food taste really bad. not worth that high price.
Pleasant Korean dining experience. Nice pajeon and good old barbecue. A little cramped but it seems a bit more intimate
Food was very good. Owner is the best. The hospitality was off the charts. I do recommend giving this place a try and I am more than sure I will return.
Meat is still good. Love that they make the fried rice at the end
Food was good. Staffs are nice and friendly. Make resv at peak hours.
Fun place, fun food
Panchen, pancakes were mediocre. Bulgogi was excellent. Good, friendly service. Steam egg was tasteless and tiny portioned.
Good food. We'll be back!
Terrible job on helping with menu selection
Amazing meal with sizable portions. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to go back The fried rice with kimchi is a must have. Not your normal fried rice
Very good Korean food, old style.
Great food. Great owner.
Awesome! Best Korean Kalbi in Chicago & traditional cooking at table. New York quality!
Not impressive from the street, but high quality Korean BBQ and dishes. Excellent service to help customers who are not familiar with various cuts of meat or dishes.
Decent grill food, steak was good, pork was meh. Easy access parking. Could use a bit of renovation in the restaurant. Limited beer selection (two Korean beers).
Great and friendly service. Delicious food. This place cooks the bbq for you, and thank you for being kind. I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of the best Korean BBQ places in Chicago. Great place to have dinner with friends. The wait staff are a usually a bit overwhelmed when they're busy, so have a little patience. In the time I've been going here, they've changed owners twice, and both were incredibly friendly and personable. If you want excellent legit Korean BBQ, then this place is highly recommended.
Phenomenal experience with our waitress Yo San. Food was great, ambiance was great, service was exceptional. Recommend the spicy bulgogi and the pork neck.
非常好吃,芝加哥几个韩国烤肉几乎吃了一遍,他家比较地道了。略贵,俩人100多刀。
Best Korean BBQ (Samgyeopsal) and Kimchi stew I’ve had in Chicago. Expect it to be busy on Thurs-Sat, but the wait is worth it. Service is brisk and friendly, but don’t expect the kind of sycophantic service you might get at a western restaurant. After spending a lot of time in Korea, i can say this place is as authentic as it gets.
If you’re looking for flavorless food this is the place for you. the pork belly which is supposed to be their most famous item there did not have any type of flavor. It was my first time trying KBBQ and I was honestly very disappointed. The service was good. The place was a little dirty. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you want to bring your own seasoning.
I made the mistake of going at a crowded time but luckily I had a reservation. I would highly suggest you do so on a Saturday night. The service was friendly they explained everything to us because this was a new experience. I loved the food it was awesome me and my fiance had an awesome time, can't wait to go back. Parking is a nightmare in that lot so prepare to walk or uber it.
One of the best Korean barbeques I've had
This is my favorite place for Korean barbecue restaurant with great customer service.
Great food. Great service. It’s a pleasure each time!
I don't usually leave comments on businesses but this time I did. Just because I'm eating by myself and I can only being offered to go? I'm taking up spaces that you could have accommodate more?
Kickass korean bbq
Charcoal grills.
Great cozy place to have couple of drinks and some BBQ, the food was okay, but you can enjoy the warm feeling on the heated tatami-like area
Korean BBQ. Average place with ojay panchan. We were surprised to see a charge for the rise on our bill...
Food was delicious and brought quickly. Great staff and atmosphere!
It seems that the mandatory 18% service charge that I had previously encoutered is no longer in effect. I have no qualms about the quality of food. Service also seemed to maintain cordiality and professionalism despite the dinner rush.
One of my preferred locations for korean food. went there on a friday i think. certainly worth a return trip. bring your hunger - portions are filling.
Food was amazing... great customer service.
I had a great first time experience here. I highly recommend the Galbi, it's like $32 for one seeving which is kinda high considering I could go to Royal Buffet for less or go to an all you can eat Korean BBQ place for less but then when I got the meat I was so surprised by the quality of it and the marinade was PERFECT. Not too sweet. I loved it! I've been craving it at work all week. The side dishes that came with it were mostly daikon prepared different ways. Kimchi daikon, pickled daikon, cabbage kimchi, sweet beans, fish cake, etc. I enjoyed the sweet beans I haven't ever encountered that dish before so it was a nice new experience for me. They also give you rice or another side. And whole romaine lettuce leaves. The vibe of the place was so cheerful, the staff was ALWAYS smiling, and not like a fake smile but like an I love my job smile which is rare and refreshing. The day I came there happened to be a larger party of people celebrating a birthday so it was very cheerful and lively. The place was VERY clean. I honestly fell in love with this place. Its my new favorite korean BBQ spot. OH!!! I ALMOST FORGOT DESSERT They had fried green tea ice cream! And the portion was well worth the price! $8 but it was like 2 pints worth of fried green tea ice cream. ❤
Really good food. I'd go more often if it was priced lower.
I love coming here to eat. They give you about 12 side dishes when you order and a salad. It is delicious, clean, and has a wonderful atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone.
Fun place to go. Food is cooked for you table side.
Best fud
Food was tasty! I would have to say the price was a bit high for bbq.
This place was terrible and I will never come back. It was totally overpriced, they forgot to bring out our rice, we got no lettuce leaves, and they had very limited number of side dishes. The service was terrible. I HATE that I spent 50 dollars on Bulgogi for two, never got rice or lettuce, and we were never offered seconds on the little side plates. Do not come here! It's also dirty. We came because it was mentioned on check please.
Okay marinated bbq ribs, too sweet and chewy.. descent service but pushes to order more..
Incredibly cool experience grilling at your own table. The food was fantastic
Nice food, nice service
Authentic korean restaurant with authemtic food. The place feels like they wanted to have too much on same place - korean seatings (on floor) and chairs, bar, a screen and newest kpop on that. Doesn't mix really well. Otherwise pleasant and love the bell.
Good waitressing service. Food was okay.
Gogi is one of the good korean bbq places. Food is yummy and the service is friendly and fast.loved the place!! Owner stopped by our table and was really funny.Good for everyone.
Chadol Baegi and the Dwaeji Galbi..so good
My top spot for quality korean food. nothing but enjoyable experiences here. the place has a nice feel to it.
Excellent and very authentic Korean bbq. My gf, who has lived in Korea for many years, recommends this place as the No.1 Korean food joint in Chicago. She also appeared in Check Please and recommended this place.
I feel like a lot of the 5 stars review here are from knows ppl of the management, all I can say it's a no. Got there 10:45, got rush to order my food cause they close by 12, got the food (not enough for the price) a little food code violations by the server, 20min to 12 we got kicked out in a very polite manner , oh well.
Better than San soo gab San
good BBQ
Wonderful and unique experience. Gogi has really great food, that is cooked in front of you by very friendly and helpful wait staff. They bring out fresh sides to share life tapas. Everything is cooked and served to skate or as individual meals. They also have amazing liquor that is too easy to drink but leaves you with no hangover. This was a great place to go for a group outing.
Food was really good and the waitress helped us out a lot!
The food was okay - it’s definitely a unique experience for the money. However, the service was below average and the interior is not as clean or nice as it appears online. They’re not at all helpful or welcoming to customers that have never experienced or tried KBBQ before and, frankly, they seemed like they didn’t care or want us there. They were speaking to a group of men there (seemed like they were friends) and ignoring my party almost completely. They charge for extra rice which is ridiculous as rice is a very inexpensive item compared to their meat. They also DO NOT LET YOU COOK BY YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ORDER 2 OR MORE MEATS. If you’re looking to just try KBBQ out this is not the place to go because you’ll have to gamble a lot of money to see if you’ll like it. Me and my friend wanted to try one dish first to see if it was something we’d enjoy, and they didn’t let us experience a critical KBBQ concept - grilling at our table. The food was decent and came with a multitude of sides and sauces to eat with your meat.
Good place, friendly staff.
The owner of the restaurant is very nice waitress are usually quick what they need to get you.
Absolutely amazing food. Try the pork belly!
My fabulous family took me here for Mother's Day. Lovely but the meat was kind of tough other than the bulgogi
It's cheap and it tastes good!
넓고 대중적인 한식 맛을 고수하는 한식당
Walked in waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged, a Korean lady walked in was behind us she was greeted right away and seated. We finally got seated, waited 20 minutes to get order taken... 25 minutes later while now a second Korean party had been seated and eating food we still only had water... needless to say a horrible experience all around..
Spent my first birthday here when I migrated. It was the best Korean bbq I've had. I went back lat week with coworkers and it's still the best.
Great spot for Korean BBQ!!
This must be the best Korean BBQ in Chicago with respect to both value and quality! Their pork is very great unlike other BBQ uses pre-flavored pork to cover the bloody taste. They did their own way to produce the raw pork, which is fresh but not smelling. When they cook it, they use a large iron plate which dissipate the heat evenly to the pork. It definitely makes the pork less fat and more crispy. We also tried their beef slices. Due to the good cooking stuff, it's also amazing. Additionally, if you order certain kinds of meat, you will get free kimchi fried rice. My GF likes it extremely, because she is a huge fan of kimchi. I have to say when I checked, I was shocked by the bill. You get countless side dishes and good quality meat as two entries with only less than $50. Really good place for dating of young couples!
Food was okay, definitely pretty pricey and someone cooks for you. Someone also kind of rushed me out to accommodate reservations while I stayed for less than an hour. Not the best kbbq experience but it did the job
pretty good Korean barbeque
Best Korean BBQ in the city!
Excellent location for korean food. food was so delicious. it has a great feel to it. they have a lot of great reviews for a reason.
