One of the greatest places to check out in Chicago, great ambient, food is good, cocktails are good and service is fast. Expect a long wait time if you have a big party, I recommend checking it out on a weekday if you can, it tends to be dark inside but that’s all part of the experience.

The food and atmosphere was incredible! I ordered the Burrata as an appetizer, 10/10. I really enjoyed my meal here, but the deserts were not great. The skillet cookie was so gooey it might as well have been raw. I also was disappointed with the service received. Everything took a long time to come. We order drinks and didn’t receive them until after the food was there. Our waitress seemed to be very busy and was not very attentive. I would go back, but I probably would return for a special occasion

Yes! This place is so good. The short: expansive drink menu, reasonably priced delicious food, sultry ambiance and good service. The long: Came here with a group of four friends and had a great experience from start to finish. We had a Friday 8pm reservation and were seated at a window seat immediately. Our waitress quickly came over with our drink menus which I always appreciate. I ordered the Spanish Old Fashioned which was really nice. It had a slight twist but was not too out of the ordinary. For appetizers we ordered the garlic, salmon cesar salad and the beef tartar. The salmon salad was delicious and I loved how you could order half portions of all the salads. The garlic oil and bread was good however I wish there was a greater clove to oil ratio. I did not try the tartar but the table loved it. For dinner we split the orecchiette and the truffle pasta. They were both super flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. I highly recommend both of these dishes. They are portioned very nice to split. We had also ordered the mashed potatoes but our waitress forget to bring them to the table which was fine with me since I was pleasantly full. Overall, Gilt bar is a wonderful place to share a couple of dishes with good friends. I would definitely return here in the near future P.S. if you're reading this review, Josh, you're a true toastmaster

Service staff were fantastic. Started out with bone marrow which was a first for me. It was ok. The red onion jam that came with it was the star. Our main courses were out of this world. I had the truffle pasta which was creamy, salty, and earthy from the tuffles. So good! My wife had the grilled chicken with lemon au jus. It was moist with a fantastic crust.

Went on a coworkers recommendation, dimly lit and a little crowded, but that won’t get in between me and the best steak I’ve EVER had. Ribeye was PERFECTION. Bernaise allowed it to transcend. If crowds make you nervous, try to go early. Just make sure you go. It’s worth it. Also, ask the bartenders if the drink menu feels like Greek to you, as it did to me. They aren’t snooty and deliver some magical concoctions.

The food was delicious...kudos to the chef(s). Both my husband and I agree, would have gotten five stars but the service was a little off. Our server was not personable at all....didn’t bother to have an opening conversation when she introduced herself, which would have helped her to find out we were celebrating my birthday. Although my husband mentioned the special occasion to the hostess, it seems it wasn’t passed on either to make our dining experience special. Lastly, when my husband reserved he also noted on the reservation. So I found it odd that three other tables were brought out a special desert with sparkling candles....but not our table.

Good food, good drinks, not so great service the night I went. I had the mussels which were divine and my date had a sandwich (can’t remember which one...) with amazing French fries. My Moscow Mule was perfect. They didn’t have enough staff that night and our poor waitress was running around from table to table not satisfying any of her customers. Would definitely go back, but in winter because it’s way too dark in the spring/summer for me.

Fantastic food, service and ambiance. They could do with lowering the volume of the music just a bit so you can have a decent conversation with your dinner guests. But nothing on the menu is lacking. Superb. One of the best restaurants in Chicago.

I also would definitely recommend the Library, which is located on the lower level of Gilt if you want to be more romantic and quiet on a date night.

Great service and wonderful food. The only issue I had was with the lights - it was extremely dark and very hard to see anything (I used effect to make all my pictures brighter). Also the way to the restrooms is a bit creepy. But overall I had a good time.

My husband took me here for our anniversary in August because I love speakeasys and they have one in the basement. He made reservations for dinner before hand and told the host how excited he was to go to the speakeasy. We weren't told until we got there that the speakeasy was closed for the night for a private event. We were a little disapointed but still wanted to enjoy dinner. It is VERY dark inside which made reading the menus a little difficult but it was also romantic. The decor is very vintage and very cool. Our server was very nice. I got the pan roasted white fish and my husband got the pork belly. Our food was a little cold when it got to us and neither of us were really impressed. I have heard so many wonderful things about Gilt bar and I hope we came here to eat on an off day and we are planning to give dinner another try. Unfortunately we did come back a few nights ago while we were in town. We had dinner reservations somewhere else but I was still hoping to check out the Library speakeasy so we stopped in for drinks. When we got there we were told that it was currently full but it shouldn't be too long before we could go in so we were seated on a couch with another couple to wait. We got a few drinks while we were waiting and wound up sitting there for almost 3 hours before we gave up and left.

I don't know if I have enough words to tell everyone how amazing this place is! The food alone, I'd back for in a heart beat. It's the perfect atmosphere for a romantic date night, to a simple night out with the girls. The menu is limited, but you can tell they take pride in the food they make. It keeps things for being overwhelming. The drinks are fun and delicious! We tried the Paten En Croute, the tenderloin steak tartare, and the gnocchi al forno. All so incredible! The steak tartare was so delicious! If you are on the fence about giving it a try, do it for your taste buds! And always get a few of the appetizers, go big or go home they say! Oh, and don't skip dessert! I can't wait to go visit again!

If you are looking for great atmosphere and high quality food, you need not look further. Also for some bonus fun, check out the photo booth in the basement.

Love going here, but I had extremely rude customer service on the phone this evening. I called to change the number of guests and she cut me off. I needed to ask my wife if she was okay moving our reservation 30 minutes later to accommodate 2 more guests and the employee on the phone had no patience. I literally needed 10 seconds and Kiara just couldn’t wait. I love Gilt Bar but your customer service needs a little work. Thanks for ruining our evening.

Like always, the staff are knowledgeable, warm, and not over-the-top. A true pleasure. The food was superb, the drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere shadowy & cozy! It is a populater stomp for lots.. so when it's busy, it's noisy. If your looking for effortless quiet conversation, just don't go during prime time.. meet there a tad eariler. Either way you'll look forward to going back again & again.

It was my first night out in Chicago with my fiancé. We had the garlic focaccia to start. My fiancé got the ribeye and I had the fried chicken. The food was amazing. I had more than a few bites of my fiancés ribeye because it was amazing. We also got the chocolate cake on the house since we were celebrating our engagement. Our waiter was Wesley and he did an amazing job making it a memorable visit.

Great atmosphere, but my husband and I and our friends received a very rude reception from a hostess named Kira as we asked to put our name on the waitlist for the Library. We returned after about an hour to see how many others were ahead of us and again received a very arrogant “we’ll come get you” that sounded more like “please step away from the hostess stand.” This is unacceptable for a spot like this.

We had empty drinks sitting at the table for 30+ minutes, they lost out on extra $60+ just by ignoring that. 70% of the tables were empty but the waitress only came around three times, get initial drink order, dinner order and to give us the bill.

I love everything about Gilt Bar, and it's my go-to place for any special event, whether it's a birthday or a date night out. When I say I love everything, I literally mean everything--the food and drinks, impeccable service and ambiance, and the fact that they have a speakeasy and photo booth downstairs. There's something for everyone on the menu here. But, I've been here several times and I ALWAYS get the truffle pasta. The bucatini is perfectly al dente, and the truffle flavor is so strong. Other dishes I've really enjoyed are the pappardelle, gnocchi, the giant meatball, brussel sprouts, and any dessert that comes with ice cream. They have the smoothest ice cream ever. If you get the single scoop ice cream, it actually comes with two scoops! The drinks here are great as well. I tend to like sweeter drinks more and have gotten the Airmail a couple of times as well as the Bee's Knees and Lillet Rose. Their negronis are great too. The people here are always so attentive and accommodating, and the decor is beautiful. Tip--even if you don't have a reservation for the Library speakeasy below the restaurant, you can ask the hostess about doing dessert and drinks there. They are usually super accommodating about it, and will schedule it in for you after dinner.

We were treated to dining in the clubby like basement dining room on New Year’s Eve and it was quite the treat. The fried chicken is a must have and the pastas are incredible. Hats off to the mixologist behind the bar as well. Tried many different cocktails off their bar menu and each cocktail was well balanced and delicious. I highly recommend eating at Gilt Bar as soon as you can. I can not wait to go back myself.

Nice cocktail selection and tasty appetizers. Main room has lounge retro-lighting and ambience, music was just right for privacy, but not so loud you couldn't have a conversation. Not many vegetarian-friendly items on the menu, but what is offered is fresh and delicious. Enjoy!

Love this place. The dim lighting of this place takes it to a different level. Make sure to notice the Edison bulbs. Make a reservation ahead of time and you should be good to go. Staff is super responsive and nice. And if you want, ask to go to The Library.

Gilt hosted our Christmas party in their library room. Everything was soundproofed to make it seem like our own quiet party, with quiet and tasteful Christmas music in the background. Serving staff were practically invisible, quietly whisking our jackets away, delivering dishes, magically clearing tables. The room was dark enough that I could not clearly see what I was eating. We were served small dishes of excellent food on stacks of decorative "library" books. Their steak is excellent, as are the donuts. The velvet seating in semicircular booths made for a great environment. The room could comfortably handle 30 people.

I've been coming here for years and it's always been 5 stars until recently. The service has taken a nosedive. In addition to having no passion or information for the spirits, the last couple times I came here straight from work and was immediately sized up for not dressing like I live in the neighborhood. This resulted in my table being mostly ignored and drink menus being taken away abruptly. Well, message received and sorry for your loss. I would have gladly ordered several more rounds of drinks and sides, but can take a hint when my kind are not welcome.

1) The food was awesome. 2) Service was excellent. 3) This is what sets Gilt Bar aside from other restaurants: My husband has advanced Parkinson’s. He needs a transport wheelchair for any distance, yet can still walk some on his own. Narrow doorways cause him to have complete leg freezing. When we entered and left, he could not walk through the entrance and it was too narrow for the wheelchair. Amor (sp ?) gently helped him walk in with soft encouragement. When we left, he was extremely tired and Amor did an unbelievable job of helping me get him outside. When she gently held his hand to guide him out, I was so touched.

Just had drinks but the old fashions there were excellent! The flavor choices are great and the pours are heavy here. We were visiting from out of town and really enjoyed this place. The setting is very dark inside but we set outside and loved it. The walk to the bathroom is worth the trip too. It's a little adventure with fun sights to see. If you are looking for a really good drink definitely check out this place. You won't be sorry!

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I came back for the first time in a while and couldn’t have been more disappointed. The cocktails and burrata were as delicious as ever. The fried chicken was a salty disgusting unappetizing mess and so was the bolognese.

Started with the beet salad, which was really good. And my wife was happy because it had feta and not goat cheese like most others. One of the better steaks I've had in a while, great char and well seasoned. Oddly enough the smashed potatoes were the star of the show. There was a richness from the chicken au jus that put them over the top. Burger was very good, wouldn't give it the edge over Au Cheval but not far behind. Truffle pasta was a little disappointing, dare I say too much truffle. Homemade noodles were great, just don't think they nailed the sauce. Would definitely go back.

I came here last night (Friday) for dinner and drinks with a friend. We had an 8:45 reservation. I got there at 8:40. Wasn't seated until 9:25. Had to keep reminding the host stand of my name and reservation each time I checked in to ask when we would be seated although we were literally standing in their faces the whole time. Once we were seated, the manager was nice enough to offer a complimentary appetizer. My friend chose the bone marrow, which I was not a fan of. We also tried the cornbread which was decent. My friend had the pork belly entree and enjoyed it but noted it was mostly fat. I had the salmon which was nicely seasoned but I was annoyed it was $25 for literally just the fillet (sides a la carte). Highlight of the experience were definitely the drinks and the downstairs library room. I had about four of the bee's knees which were delightful. I would come back but just for drinks.

One of the chicest, coolest places I've been. We were seated downstairs in the Library. The food was amazing, the cocktails were perfect, service was great and the atmosphere is something I can't wait to experience again. Pro tip - take advantage of the fun photo booth they have!

We went for dinner, amazing environment, play jazz music. Very comfortable chairs. Food is very good, tasteful and fresh. Fries with aioli are amazing as well as the mussels, they are a bit spicy but even for me that I don’t like spicy food, I couldn’t stop eating them. They are extremely well balanced. The cookie skillet is great. I gave them 4 star because they didn’t have Lemon meringue that is what I went for. And the service between dishes took a bit longer. But they also were full. However the service is amazing, staff is nice and helpful.

Fantastic dinner! I came here for my first wedding anniversary on Memorial Day evening. I had made reservations online (just in case) with a note about our anniversary. We were seated in a discreet corner table overlooking the entire dining area. We were also given complimentary champagne. Our server was very helpful with wine suggestions. The food was delicious and rather well portioned. We didn't feel rushed or crowded.

I don't ever write reviews, but for this place I felt like I needed to. I got reservations for 2 this past Saturday night for my birthday and I was blown away. The staff were friendly and helpful, the library downstairs was stunning, and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back.

Some of the best food I've had in a long time. My wife and I were able to get seated in the library (speakeasy downstairs). Very romantic. Steak tartare is a must try. Salted caramel ice cream was amazing.

We ate their yesterday for NYE. The food was good and fresh. We ordered the Truffle but had to order it twice because the first plate was not enough. Lol However, someone recommended the place. We won’t be back not because of food (it was delicious) It was our waiter (I wish we got her name but), blonde hair, with glasses and tattoo on her right arm with red lipstick made our experience to be terrible. She was very rude and condescending. She would toss the menus on the table, wouldn’t smile, act like we were annoying her, and very short with us. When she went to other tables she would smile and was polite. In the event we tipped good out the kindeness of our heart. However, people and the staff should know how she’s treating certain guest and to next time make sure everyone feels welcomed.

Absolutely fantastic meal! We had the arugula salad, with a light/tangy dressing, the bolognese rigatoni (so delicious), and the crispy fish with a side of vegetables. Add an excellent cocktail menu and great wine, and this was easily my favorite meal of the trip!

Absolutely one of my favorite stops in River North. The environment was classy, warm, and lively. We visited while on our honeymoon, and it was the perfect place to have a romantic, celebratory evening. I ordered the kale Caesar salad, rib eye steak, French fries, as well as a brandy Alexander; I relished all of it. The prices align with the superb quality of the food. If you love delicious, savory plates and a magical atmosphere, The Gilt is the place for you.
