Best Dogs in and around The Chi. Cash Only. No Ketchup and don't even ask for that sacrilegious stuff. There's always a line, but it moves quick. Worth every minute. Get extra fries and the tamales too. When I lived in Florida and would fly home, that was always the first stop before going to the house and the trip back too. Can never get enough. Ridiculously affordable too.

Gene and Jude’s is the quintessential Chicago dog! The dogs have been ranked number one in the world on numerous occasions!! There is a reason for them winning all these awards! These hotdogs were an instant classic all the way from their inception in 1946! The Hot Dogs have their own flair!! Every dog comes with fries! The dogs have mustard, green relish, onions, and sports peppers on them and always come wrapped up with home made fries. No ketchup allowed at Gene and Jude’s! You gotta go to McDonald’s next door if you want it! Gene and Jude‘s only serves 4 things; hotdogs, tamales, fries, and pop. This place is such a throw back! You feel like you were sucked back into time to 1946. This is the 1 spot in my opinion that people should be going if want to try a Chicago Hotdog!!

Pretty good experience. One of those old-time Chicago staples. Super long wait time which was just fine, as it was a clear indication of their popularity. My only disappointment was that some ketchup to go with the fries would have made it top notch. Overall a fun experience and would definitely recommend this place.

Dingy place of course, but that's what makes it so much fun. It's a novelty place we like to frequent no more than once or twice a year since its so unhealthy. Fries are fresh cut and delicious. Whatever you do, don't ask for ketchup. Eat OUTSIDE of your vehicle. It WILL stink!

I have to come here every time I'm in town! How can something so simple be so good? The fries are very flavorful and just the right amount of sweetness with the salt. I like to ask for well done fries, they normally come a bit soft for my liking. You can't find a better meal in all of Chicagoland for $3.50!

Fast. Relatively cheap. CASH ONLY! Good dogs & a lot of limp, greasy fries. Bare bones inside. Take them with you, or stand at the counter to eat. Ask for mustard, but never ask for catsup on your dog OR your fries! Fries come on top of the dogs. Eat them together or apart or both. Greasy eating no matter what. Staff is efficient and smile sometimes. It's a very busy place, and they get your order done fast! My husband loves this place, and it's the first place we come to for lunch when we are in the Chicago area. To me, it's just a hot dog. Of course, saying that is sacrilege for Gene & Jude devotees. Try it. Let me know if you agree.

For me, the best hot dog I’ve had. If this is a new place for you know it can be VERY busy during prime time or weekends. Prices are very affordable. Some people love the tamales but they are meh. Their sodas are mixed well. Don’t plan on sitting down as it’s all counter based. Do the real Gene and Jude’s thing and eat on your car! A classic place that shouldn’t be missed!

The service is fast and friendly, don't let the long line discourage you, it goes super fast and worth the wait. Prices are definitely affordable with $6 dollars and some change you walk out with a double hotdogs, fries and a large drink. The have plenty of parking. Definitely recommend this old school hotdog place... love it

This place seems like it's more famous for it's name than the food. Very limited menu so you would think then they could provide all the toppings that make a "Chicago Dog" but they don't. Frannie's down the street has better hot dogs than this place. Gene's hot dog can only come with onions, mustard, peppers, and relish but no tomato, celery salt, or PICKLE. Fries are kind of soggy and no ketchup packets to go for the fries. OK I understand your stance on no ketchup on a hot dog but to not offer ketchup to go for the fries seems stingy. Stingy like how they don't buy all the toppings for a Chicago hot dog. First and last time I will come here. They do not live up to their supposed hype.

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? Nothing...so I'll just say they deserve MORE THAN 5STARS. They have been a staple in the community for YEARS. I remember coming here with my dad and stepmom as a teenager(13yrs old and up.) Fast and friendly service. Just wish there was more seating. But this place is awesome

Just had my first Gene and Jude hotdog. It was really good. They handled the longline efficiently and the counter guys were friendly. Bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. It is strictly a take away place as there is no seating. It is rated #1 in a lot of poles but we don’t think it holds a candle to superdawg.

Heard about this place for years and finally had the chance to check it out. The line moved fast and efficiently for as busy as it was during prime lunch time. Hot dog did have the snap to it! The hot dog was tasty but I've had comparable if not better. Fries were a little soggy and needed salt. One big ding- no poppy seed bun! I liked that it was no fuss- get your hot dog and get out.

For all the talk about best Dogg's in Chicago I found it to be on par with every other hot dog joint, don't get me wrong the hot dogg was hot,fresh and good but looked like it was just thrown together (very sloppy) found it difficult to eat without making a (me) a mess,. Lots of napkins !!!!

Popular take out place that has been written up in several food magazines/articles over the years. The hot dogs and fries are the main draw and highlight of the limited menu. They start with a quality hot dog that is steamed and served Chicago style. The hot dogs are somewhat better than steamed hot dogs you can get elsewhere. The fries are hand cut on site shortly before being cooked and are really very good. A large serving of fries is placed on top of and wrapped with the hot dog. You have to dig down through the fries a bit to find the hot dog. Prices are extremely reasonable. There is no seating but many people stand at the wrap around counter to eat. Plenty of parking available.

You go here both for the unique experience and the food. Limited menu, I get a regular hot dog and a tamale. The hot dog comes with several toppings including a generous portion of their delicious but greasy fries, I get everything but the sport peppers, but there is no ketchup anywhere to be found. And they might kick you out if you bring your own Haha! Several drink choices. There are no tables, only a bar where you can stand and eat, which we often do. Some people eat in the car in the small parking lot. All the food is made fresh and fast. They only take cash, no credit cards. This place can get crowded at night with a line out the door, but it goes fast. It really hits the spot if you are craving greasy comfort food!

Gene and Jude's has the best hot dogs and fries in Chicago. I have been coming here for years and it's always great. My mom came here when she was younger, too. Sometimes there can be a long line but it usually moves pretty fast. You need to eat there as the fries are best when they’re just made.

Cons: No parking, no seating, no logical organization when trying to order (meaning you cannot detect the end of the line without asking others, and the standing table area inside was unusable). We ate our food on the back of our cars within minutes of receiving it, and the hot dog was barely warm, the bun was dinky/squashed, and fries were nothing special. The tamale should 100% be removed from their menu (or at least taken out of the plastic wrap from which it was clearly microwaved). No ketchup served for fries. Pros: They enforce the "no ketchup" rule. Good portion of food for the price. Summary: Overrated, but if it was less busy I would give it a second chance to see if the quality improved.

Thank You" That should pretty much sum it up. You don't go to Gene and Jude's for fine dining, you go for Chicago dogs and fries, heavily processed tamales and a drink. That's not meant to denigrate them by any means. It's not what they're trying to be. Stop by, have a double dog with everything and enjoy like my kids and I did!

I was a little disappointed. I like my Chicago hot dog with peppers, tomatoes, onions, pickle spear. They don't serve that style hotdog here. It's more the plain version of the Chicago hot dog. It has relish, onion, and mustard and that's it. Keshup is not available so don't even ask - unless you want to be ridiculed.

It’s a drive and dive hot dog bar. Pull up, park. Walk in and order a ‘Double Dog with Fries’. They don’t have katch-up, they do say their mustard is the best. Well all that’s left is to eat and then.. Drive away with a happy stomach. Very low cost. I spent $6.XX on a dog, fries, and drink. #awesome quick bite.

Steamed bun was a nice touch, but smashing my dog with a pound of soggy greasy fries ruins everything and the experience. Give me Portillos any day of the week. There is such a waste with the fries, cut the amount by 30%. The staff was fine, not too engaging. I'm really not sure what all the rage is.
