One of our favorite local restaurants, we save F&F for our special occasions (birthdays, graduations, promotions, etc). Our most recent visit was for my birthday celebration. The food was reliably good, but the atmosphere, impossible. Noise level was off the charts, and raucous diners adjacent to us made conversation virtually impossible. Even our waitress agreed that the people were out of control and the noise excessive. But nothing was done to remedy the situation. Very disappointing indeed.

The food was excellent. Everyone we interacted with on the staff was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was knowledgable and fun and he made a great wine reccomendation to pair with my entree. We had a perfect evening at Fritz and Frites. We had a selection of beverages - wine, beer, orange soda, apple brandy, the pomme frites (shoestring potatoes), the choucroute garnie - a selection of meats with sauerkraut and potatoes, the schweineschnitzel - breaded and fried pork cutlets, and sauerbraten - a sweet and sour (wine and vinegar) marinated beef, and everything was truly excellent. This place is a must when you visit Galena.

Had brunch here on a weekend trip to Galena. Menu was small, but everything looked delicious! My partner and I had corned beef hash and steak bernaise. Both were tasty and looked beautiful! Really attentive service and great food! I'd definitely recommend it.

Let me say first that I'm a putz.....but I know what a first class experience feels like,mainly because my worldly little wife has taught me. Fritz and Frites is the most wonderful time a couple can have on this particular planet! I doubt there is a nicer man or better chef than Fred,anywhere. I'm going to ask I be buried with one of Fred's schnitzels. We love the entire staff....best service you'll ever receive,and the ambiance is perfection. This guy's favorite restaurant on earth!

Went on a busy Saturday with my boyfriend. They got us in for a last minute reservation. The hostess was extremely friendly and opened the door for us. We were sat right by the door which was a bummer because it was February but we didn’t care since they got us in last minute. Well, that was until a couple without a reservation was sat in a nicer table in the corner. The door opening and closing made it cold and uncomfortable but eventually the restaurant was full. Our server was great from the start.very personable. I ordered a vodka soda and it was made perfectly. We got escargot which we enjoyed very much. The bread was yummy and unlimited. The German dish I got was some kind of beef with pickle and sauerkraut and schnitzel. Food gets a 5/5. Service 4.5/5. Space 3/5. We will be back!

Really nice French style dinner without the high price tag. Excellent soup du jour, escargot and out of this world mussels. You can literally drink the champagne leek cream sauce from the mussels like a soup. For dessert, apple strudel with cinnamon ice cream. The staff really wants you to enjoy everything about your meal. A nice dinner out. Highly recommended!

Fabulous! I cannot think of a single thing that was not spectacular. The food was beyond delicious, one of the best meals I've ever had. And a dessert is an absolute must. Be sure to get a reservation. We will definitely come back in the future.

What a gem of a place! I had the best restaurant meal I've had in years. The smoked pork chop with hard-cider glaze was a gourmet treat. The sides were just like my German grandmother made, as was the strudel. I highly recommend this simply elegant restaurant!

Such good food. Great atmosphere. We just had our New Year's Eve dinner, and downtown had lost all of their power. The staff, the chef everyone didn't miss a beat. They served a fabulous dinner to all of us with no power, and it was incredible.

Amazing French/German fusion (it sounds odd, but it's an amazing combination). We ordered Pommes Frites, Escargot, and split the Chicken Schnitzel special. Everything was delicious! Definitely get the Jaeger sauce too! The portions are huge, as our half portion entree was more than plenty! Good atmosphere and good wine as well.

Loved this place! We went for Sunday brunch and it far exceeded our expectations! The service was top notch and the waitress was a total sweetheart. I had the quiche and it was by far the best quiche I've ever had. There was so much attention to detail in everything, from beautiful plating of the food to the waitress holding the door for us. We will be back!! Can't wait to try them for dinner as well.

Wunderbar/merveilleux! Hats off to the chef, who has mastered a Franco-Austrian menu of truite amandine and Wienerschnitzel. A very fine bistro that would be at home in New York, Washington, or San Francisco, here punching above its weight in little Galena, Illinois. A true delight, and very worth your time and custom.

Would love to rate it higher, but simply can't. The good: Food was excellent. Very robust, but well balanced flavors. Main menu prices are reasonable as well. The bad: There are a handful of upcharges that are anything but relayed when you order. Be mindful of what you say yes to, as literally everything has a price to it. Easy to add an extra 20% on to your plate without even knowing it. The very bad: Service was slow and robotic. And that's being kind. I can't speak with authority in regard to the entire staff, but our server was - at best - aloof and inattentive.

We returned once again to the place where we had our first date 10 years. Fred always produces good meals and it is a nice warm comfortable place to dine. The mushroom soup is thick and rich, the pork shank with red cabbage would satisfy a farmer after a hot day in the field, and my wife loved her moist and tender trout.

The food was great. Lots of options on the menu for the picky eaters and the culinary tourists. Staff was PERFECT. We're a group of 11 and we're very comfortable, even with the little ones. Appetizer 10/10. Steak Frite for lunch was perfect. The French toast looked like a Pinterest post! They split our tickets perfectly and without us even asking!! Totally recommend visiting this place if you're in town.

Was looking for someplace to eat while just passing through Galena. So glad we did. The food was fantastic. Two of us are gluten free and most of the menu could be adjusted to accommodate us. They even had gluten free seafood chowder. Which was delicious! If you are gluten free this is a fantastic stop with great options. And just simply great food even if you are not.

Excellent French/German cuisine. Try the escargot and get any of their schnitzels. It's my understanding that everything is made by hand here; nothing comes from a box or bag. You can expect fresh tasting food and a high-end dining experience.

This place was an absolute gem! We tried two other places that were supposedly more popular here in town on our way out and found this place wasn’t very busy but it was a much better atmosphere and absolutely amazing food. You can tell that they have a gourmet chef cooking the food, everything tasted perfect. Presentation is everything with food and as you can see it looked amazing. Very good atmosphere for even a Sunday morning for brunch! They even have the stamps on the table which we love!

Absolutely the best meal I had. Perfect. I would eat here every day if I could. I will definitly be coming here again and again. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. Everything was cooked to perfection, meat slices like butter, green beans crisp; and the dessert. I could have eaten a dozen, we couldn't leave a drop of that the chocolate ganache behind.

One of the best restaurants in Galena but gets forgotten being on the north end of main street. One of the smaller eateries but so quaint. Reminds you of a bistro in France. Waiters are friendly and know their menu. The roasted chicken is to die for!

Wow what a great spot! Steak egg Benedict was perfectly prepared with thin rare slices covered with fried egg and bearnaise sauce. Schnitzel was also pure perfection tender and juicy. Definitely a place to look forward to come back to when visiting Galena.

Good food but I'm not in a hurry to go back. I had steak frites and expected a big steak for $25. It was like a 6 oz piece and didn't fill me up. I've had better steak/bigger portion at Texas Roadhouse for the same price. They serve room temperature tap water, which I wasn't a fan of either. My girlfriend had the chicken and that was much better than my steak. Overall it was good, just overpriced in my opinion. Maybe my expectations are a little too Americanized for this type of restaurant.

They are open 5pm weekdays and Sunday for brunch. The menu is simple and the special is the trout fish. Best place for dining. The food were great. The owner really friendly also the waitress. The price is just right. I recommend this place for dining as couple, faith friends or family. I suggest do RSVP if you have big party. Because the place is small and if you dining in busy time please do call for RSVP.
