This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Argentinian restaurant.
Comfortable place in Wicker Park. Great out door seating and simple/rustic inside. The cocktails were delicious as well as the empanadas. I was disappointed in my entree which was on the Chefs Menu, EL Filet. The steak was very chewy and not the melt in your mouth that you would expect from prime cut of meet. My friend got the skirt steak and said it was very good.
Amazing Argentinean food. The filet is phenomenal and comes with the biggest most tasteful shrimp prawns. The lamb is wonderful and so are their drinks. It's a small, cozy send very unique place in the heart of wicker park.
Really impressed with the steak. I never had a steak smothered in anything other than mushrooms and it was delicious. I have no clue which it was though. It was a red type sauce I think
Filet was comes perfectly and tasted scrumptious. The hot rolls and butter were a perfect beginning to a frenchy's meal.
Delicious, only if the little grill had coals inside then this would be a hit
This is no Tango Sur, the sister restaurant which sets the bar for Argentina food and my expectations. I have to say that i was sadly disappointed overall in the food. The service was great and deserves a shout out. Maybe it was an off night but we all 4 left feeling disappointed. Appetizers: We had empanadas which were dry. We also had butternut squash ravioli with scallops that were good, not great but good. My friends had lomo relleno which they described as flavorful but the meat was chewy and too fatty. I had a chef special of grilled vegtables with shrimp served on table top grill which came sadly cold with the cheese hardened like a shell on top of the veggies and drowning in too much oil. Overall not worth the coin you'll drop. Go to Tango Sur if you want good Argentina food.
Great vibe. Poor food quality.
Good cocktail and really good food. We had a friend's birthday celebration there and they were very nice and accommodating for our large group. The bacon wrapped dates were amazing!
Great steak for a great price
Great food. Nice atmosphere. Good service.
Food is great, excellent Argentinian style meat. Great atmosphere but a bit noisy. Very reasonable.
Enjoyed the mojitos which were amazing and the music was really great too. My husband had the empanadas and the Argentinian beer they sell- super delicious. We will definitely be returning with friends and family.
Great food and nice place
Place is expensive for me but it is fine dining so. As a vegan they had ok options. Had the potato dumplings with tomato sauce which was actually filling and tasty. Just let the waitress know you don't eat meat then they'll try to help you out. Obviously if you eat meat this would be a good place since most of the plates are meat based. This is also a great place for big group parties.
Great place to take dates. Very nice ambient. The steaks are okay. It does not taste prime and food is salty.
Excellent food and environment
great staff, food is fantastic, it's a great value overall
A cozy rustic space with knowledgeable waitstaff, incredible cocktails and straight up delisious steak.
We came on a late night right before last call, the bartenders were all very welcoming and we didnt feel rushed at all. Great drinks, great service!
Ordered 8 mojitos and the bartender rocked them out quick and all tasted perfect
Food is amazing - hands down. I always order the filets rare with their spinach mashed potatoes and it's fun to split a bottle of wine, the flavored mojitos are delicious. We did wait a long time for a server, (I think we were sat between sections), but once we had one, it was great.
Absolutely a fabulous place for cocktails and dinner.
Fantastic food, very nice staff!
Beautiful indoors and beautiful food to match its ambiance. Wonderful even when there’s a fewer crowd.
Food was great! Server was awesome but the house was packed so it was slow.
Lovely atmosphere, awesome service and amazing food! We came here to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first time in this restaurant and the manager came to congratulate us with an amazing dessert and champagne!
Goooooood food. The steaks are very well priced and very well prepared. Definitely coming back.
Always amazing every single time my husband and I come!! From the service to the food you will never be let down!! You are never sitting there wondering where your server is because they are always on top of everything. The food is so good and cooked exactly like you asked!!
Come here for amazing and authentic Argentinian food! Given the quality and portions sizes, the prices are surprisingly affordable. And while Tango Sur is BYOB, Folklore has a cocktail menu that’s unique and a great companion to the food. In addition, this location spends a great amount of effort to evoke an upscale, urban environment. Situated in a neighborhood that stays up late, this is also a great stop when you’re planning an extended night out!
A real disappointment, waited an hour despite having a reservation. Service was alright but definitely not the quality I would expect in the city. The manager did make up for the wait by sending out some appetizers to the table, these also happened to be the best dish of the night. The steak was merely okay, and considering that was to be their speciality I simply cannot recommend going here. Decent cocktails, though.
Great food. Loved the grass fed steak and the ambiance.
Nice Argentinian restaurant with lot of different choices especially famous for steak dishes usually you need reservation otherwise it's hard to find place during like Friday nights or weekends good service and known for their authentic dishes. bit expensive but good to impress your date and friends.
Great food, great prices, no complaints. Pleased when I heard they offer the same empanadas I used to have in Lakeview. I want to try a ton of different meat here. Interested in what the Argentina steaks taste like. The provoleto is heaven on a plate. I could eat it all day although I'd probably clog my arteries. Spinach mashed potatoes were just okay, might try the normal ones next time. All in all, good time. Outdoor patio is also a plus. Looking forward to coming back. Yep.........
Average food, too dark to read menu and very poor service and kitchen management overall.
Food is amazing
Food was great, excellent service...we waited a little but was worth it.
Huge portions and delicious food! Very nice atmosphere... intimate and not too loud
Food was really good was happy overall but ribeye steak was tough and to fatty, wont recommend it
Amazing food. Amazing customer service
Love that steak!
Romantic and a great place for steaks!
Decent steak. You’re not going to compare it to a Chicago steakhouse but the price is not as expensive either. Nice atmosphere though the music is a little loud. The service seems to be best characterized as “disinterested” though that seems to be a familiar characteristic of Argentine steak places.
Everytime i come here I am never disappointed. The parrillada is probably one of the best things on their menu. Along with the Greg Mojito I ordered . I recommend most of their appetizers . I truly had a feast for dinner with friends .
We were in town that day . Seen that place and thought we would try it . From the start they gave us a bad attitude. I don't know if it was because we were of different nations ? We were dressed nice . My party was visiting their Lawyer not too far away from the restaurant. I'll never recommend them as for we left before making it passed the wait to be seated area .
Way too dark inside but good vibes all around
Great place for steaks and argentinean parrillada... My only concern is that Tango music and mate must be available always.
Great service and reasonable prices. First Argentine food for me but it seemed excellent. We got a flank steak relleno, which was good for two and very flavorful.
Great food awaesome staff very intimate
Steak itself was cooked well but the flavor wasn't that tasty (too sweet). Appetizers seemed a little carelessly prepared. If you have to use the ladies' room be ready for paper thin walls and glad windows that are inadequately frosted for privacy. Took forever to get the check. That might have been an off night thing but overall i want really that compelled to return or recommend the place but I'd definitely draw your own conclusions about it.
Excellent service. Big portions. No waiting in line when we visited. Wll come back.
Great food...great drinks. Seasonal cocktail menu keeps things new and there is a drink for every taste. Highly recommend talking to the bartenders to find a drink that suit you.
I truly can’t decide what’s better, the food or the customer service. Our waiter comped our dessert and 2 mojitos because our empanadas (which are 10/10 btw) got delivered to another table. We wouldn’t even have known if they didn’t tell us! My husband orders the half chicken and I got a sirloin. Very healthy portions both cooked to perfection! Highly recommend this place 1000 times over.
Great food, great drinks and wonderful service
Great place , great food, table are a bit small... the food is too much for the tanbke space... but love it definally going back
Great steak and good service. The eggplant empanadas were surprisingly good.
Went with friends they all enjoyed their meal and drinks. I ordered the breaded beef with ham, mozzarella and tomato sauce. The beef was very similar to a cheap country fried steak (without a crunch). The side chips were good and the sauce covering the meat was also good. Atmosphere was ok but was a little loud. Too expensive for my experience.
One of the best empanadas I’ve ever had! Everything that followed for me was lackluster including the service. However I am not a red meat fan and that may have been the downfall, my dining partner raves about the Argentinian steak and it was a massive portion.
The cuisine and service we're excellent! It's very nice atmosphere with authentic Argentine food that I'll definitely be back for again!
The drinks were good not the best but good. The steak was a little too chewy. I struggled to cut through it..the flavor was great but just too much work. For some reason the steak at tango sur seems better. Atmosphere was good at the bar. End of might a little bit of not as classy crowd started arriving on a Fri night. But we left before that.
Many variations of delicious grilled meats. All the food was very tasty and well prepared. Great service. A really fun place to bring a group or just hang out.
Great food, wonderful service, excellent wine list and reasonably priced. I can't say enough about this place.
The food is impressive and service is top notch.
It was honestly great, the appetizers are great. El Che, the main course, is great. The flan is life changing. 10 out of 10 will go again. Find me there next week.
Gluten Free Review: the atmosphere in this restaurant is really nice & romantic (perfect for a first date haha). I came here for a light dinner with my family & was disappointed to see that a lot of the dishes besides the meat could not be made gluten free. My waiter did assure me that the berenjena (oven baked egg plant with spinach, cheese & tomato cream sauce) was gluten free so I ended up getting that to split. It was delicious! The best eggplant I have ever had. Overall, I would come back for this dish or if I was looking for a big steak dinner. For something lighter, I would probably go somewhere else. Note: I am not celiac and do not have issues with cross contamination. If you are celiac, please speak with your server before ordering.
Great food. The mojitos where in point, the best one for me was the pomegranate.. great service . The music good to.. I'll be coming back soon.. thank you
Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere. Went here during a bachelorette party & they even offered my friend getting married a beautiful dessert for free. Super thoughtful!
The ambiance is good, the food is terrible. I ordered El Che, one of the chef’s specials. It was the worst steak i have ever had in my life. I am not going back, and i wouldn’t recommend.
This is a great place to have dinner. The food is really good and the wine list is an excellent value. Our server was great. The outdoor seating was terrific and indoors is beautiful, with exposed brick, terrific lighting and a great music selection creating a nice ambiance.
Friendly staff, great food proportions and very nice Romantic ambience in evening. I'll be back soon.
We had a bad experience with a waiter being incredibly rude. We had been there multiple times before and hadn’t experienced an issue before. We love the food, we just expected to be treated better.
The food at this place are always delicious and are of huge portions! Highly recommend this place for healthy eating!
Just okay. Expected a better steak. Would try again.
A preferred scene for delicious Argentinian food. service treated us so nice. the place has a great feel to it.
Holy cow, this place is so unassuming yet SO delicious! We had just happened to be walking the area and decided to give Folklore a try. The wait staff is attentive, the place is clean, the dinnerware is clean (amazing one must note this!) and the food was unbelievably delicious! I kid you not, I've never had a better steak in my life - and I'm a Texan! If you're driving, parking is a nightmare getting in because it's Chicago. The prices are high but the taste, freshness and presentation of the meal is worth it.
Dinner and service was fantastic. Delicious, affordable, cozy, excellent, friendly suggestions from waitstaff. I look forward to next time.
Service and atmosphere was great. The menu was not totally up my alley but good quality.
The food and drinks were good. A little pricy but the portion size was reflective of that. I can't recall going to a restaurant that included a mandatory service charge with a group of less than 8, but an automatic gratuity was added in for our table of 6, as well as an $8 split fee. When I asked about the split fee, our server mentioned that it was listed in the menu. Hmm. All in all, it left a sour taste in my mouth, and its tough to give 4 or 5 stars when a restaurant pulls stunts like that.
argentinian food... so good. Entered near nine, it wasn't busy. The bill was good for what you get. Menu is similar to a restaurant in El Paso I loved.
PAZ Salmon with avocado, tomato, and carrots in photo. Extensive wine list. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Great food, great service!
Good ambience, great, albeit tiny empanadas. The skirt steak was all right.
Awesome place for Argentine fare, to catch a national team game and to hang out
The sister restaurant of Tango Sur. The food is just as good and the atmosphere is amazing.
Great service, great food and drinks.
This place has been spot on every time I have been there. I bring all of my out of town family and friends there each opportunity I get. The food is absolutely amazing and the pricing is unbeatable. The restaurant itself is a great atmosphere too. I rarely rate places I go, but I've been to this place maybe 25 times and I have never been disappointed.
The food is delicious. Today I had the portabello. The salads are fresh.
Service mediocre, food over priced.
Love love love this place. The food is delicious, reasonable pricing, staff is amazing. I just wish there was better lighting.
Best steak in the city, by far
I went there for a pop up wine tasting. Amazing Service Beautiful patio
This place is super delicious very nice staff and an awesome selection of wines. The food in comparison to other Argentinian restaurants was top-quality and much more affordable. My wife and I had the dinner for one and shared another entree had a couple of drinks and an appetizer and it was only $65. We were left super full and super happy. It was low lighting but not so low that you couldn't see. Great time to be had at folklore
Love this place!!! My husband and I go every year around Valentine's Day. We both have the El Filet and have never been disappointed! They have excellent mojitos as well. Staff is super attentive and always friendly! We will be returning, hopefully, for years to come!!
Amazing food, best empanadas in the city, come on in and see for yourself. Great place to go on a date. This place doesn't disappoint.
5 star mojitos and hot guy bartenders. Don’t know about the food but it smells great
This place is amazing!! Hats off to the chef!! Everything is prepared and served perfectly!! Juan the bartender is a delight to watch as he mixes specialty cocktails. Everyone simply must enjoy a wonderful dinner at Folklore!!
Food is amazing but I am giving it a 4 star because of the service I wish it was better!
Very tasty and delicious food. waiters are very friendly, fast service. romantic atmosphere, candles are lit .... but the soul is noisy, we have to scream ... from the noise the head has become sick ... hard to relax. this is if you sit at the table inside. But non-alcohol mojito was so good!
Dinner was romantic and steak was juicy and tasty. The dessert menu was shown to us by bringing and showing us the entire cake slices on a plate. It was hard to pick since they all looked great.
Great vibes if you want to dance and grab some drinks with dope beats from the djs
Came here while I was on vacation since in texas we don’t have argentine steak houses. It was so good I went back the next day! It’s delicious!
Always good food & tasty!! I didnt like my caipirinha & the manager made another drink for me without hassle. As always, I'll return!
I have had almost every steak on the menu here, and each has been fantastic. Great food with very authentic atmosphere. I take friends and family here when they visit, and it's a great spot for date night as well. Folklore has been my favorite steakhouse in Chicago for years!
Super authentic Argentinian food (take it from me, I'm a native). The ambiance is really chill, relaxed. All the food was perfectly cooked. The service wasn't that great (and that would take some stars off, but I'm willing to overlook it)
We are Argentinian. This is the place we go to when we crave a home meal. The meat is extraordinary and the sides are really good and accurate.
Great experience, the owner has been very nice to us and made sure we had a great time, food was super good and portions generous, service was great. Would definitively be back!
This place is amazing! You have to try to churrasco!
Mojitos were pretty good will be back for the food..
Come here hungry. Ivan and Will are absolute dolls.
great food , great service nice f place for a casual dinner or a formal date.
My top spot for quality argentinian food. it was so appetizing. service is typically above par. kinda of like a restaurant in los angeles i liked to visit.
Great location, not the best for parking. The restaurant looks nice but it is so dark that you can’t even see the food you are eating. Also if you ask for milanesa al caballo it is no going to come with real french fries like they do it in Argentina, only chips witch is unheard of!
Great steakhouse! Nice ambiance, but on the loud side. Good place to go if you are looking for good steak and cocktails. The salad and sides were good, but nothing special. We had a large group which and had some difficulties getting the bill split up. Overall I would go back, but probably in a smaller group.
So yummy and beautiful interiors! Friendly service and live music. :)
Absurdly good steak's and drinks!! Great atmosphere and vibe. I have never had a mediocre experience at this place. This place completes me!!!
Great food, but slow service.
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Excellent steaks and wine. Service is awesome!
Not overly pricey considering the neighborhood. It's Argentinian, which I would describe as a cross between Italian and....uhh...things that involve a lot of meat. They have good seafood and beef dishes. And pasta. Lots of pasta. The pesto sauce is great. Wine is probably the drink of choice, but the cocktails and coffee are very good, too.
I really liked the dining experience at folklore & the knowledgeable staff there. Our server was very nice and attentive to our requests. They have great food & desserts. I recommend the caramel flan.
Great food and excellent service - recommend!!
All four parties agree that our meals including dessert was absolutely delicious! I had the filet mignon with 2 prawn which was splendid but a little on the salty side. We were there at 10:30pm. Fabulous Argentinean dinner for that late at night.
Great atmosphere and reasonable prices for fantastic taste
Great food and atmosphere, steaks and seafood are excellent
This is absolutely one of my favorite date night places to go! Let me start by saying that the staff is absolutely amazing! In the 3+ years coming here never once have I had a bad experience with the service or the food. I love the candle lit dinner with the rustic look and Their "El filet" is a must!! The best fillet mignon hands down! And their caipirinhas are refreshingly delicious!
Service is grea, the staek is soft and Juicy.
One of the best meals I’ve had in Chicago. Massive portions that make the price more than worth it.
The food is amazing I love coming here
We had the best Argentinian experience at Folklore, I strongly recommend it. Best Argentine restaurant in Chicago. Just plan ahead your visit because street parking is very difficult but the food and drinks are worth it.
Nasty windows, flies, rude service
Great local spot. Front of the house needs some help but drinks and food are so good.
I like the atmosphere. I went there for dinner and every table was with real tall candle that turn the restaurant to very romantic place. Service was good. The food was good too but was one step down than a steakhouse restaurant. Over all is good place were you can experience good Argentinian food in a nice atmosphere.
Had a wonderful meal here on Saturday. The atmosphere is great. Very romantic with low light and lots of candles. The empanadas and steaks we had were really really good. Also, the prices seemed very reasonable.
Huge menu. Lot's of different meat options. Good beer / wine list.
Amazing food with a cozy atmosphere. Special drinks will make you want to pick more then one. Best empanadas I have had so far. I had a delicious surf and turf followed by a fantastic flan. You can't miss if it's a special occasion.
Loved it. Best spinach mashed potatoes ever that come accompanying the filet. Great service, nice location. Servers are great and very quick at meeting your needs
Do you serve Morsilla ?
Go there Monday nights and ask for Graham! Makes his own cocktail menu and it's fantastic!
I love going here with a group of friends. The drinks and food here are amazing. I've tried almost every drink here and still haven't found one that wasn't perfection. If you're looking for a great weekend place to meet up friends, you HAVE to come here.
