This Restaurant is classified in the category of Steak house.
They don't honor A La Card (the $10 off coupons that are a participating restaurant with). I went to the restaurant ONLY because I had the $10 coupon. I went for dinner before a show at the Lyric, so it happened to be during their happy hour time. We ordered several starters/sides, a couple of drinks, and a steak. Some of those items were discounted because of it being happy hour, however some were not, including the full-price steak. They would not allow me to use the $10 A La Card because of happy hour, despite even one of their items being full-price and qualifying for the coupon (you have to spend $25 to get the $10 off. The steak was $34).
We did the Chef’s Table six course tasting menu and the experience was fantastic. It was really cool sitting at the back counter in front of the grill and watching the chefs work. All of the food was very good and reminiscent of Argentinian steakhouse flavors...but elevated. We ordered the “soft pairing” drink option to go along with the meal, which was also very good. Neither of us drink and are always happy when restaurants offer interesting drink options beyond booze. All of the staff was super friendly and made sure our experience was special. Can not recommend enough and would love to get back to try some of the menu options that we watched the chefs prepare, but were not part of our menu.
Good ambiance, well presented food. Don't miss the dulce de leche ice cream. Not particularly a place for small kids but staff was friendly and accommodating with our 3 month old baby!
Great steaks
Food was pretty good, but service and pricing were not. I suggest a place next to Micigan Avenue that will deliver a great steak or seafood at similar price. The West Loop and other areas near there are overrated...
The food is extremely well crafted and the cocktails are exceptional. The ambiance is pleasant, with a darker atmosphere that is great for a date night. I highly recommend the beef shortribs, which are exceptionally prepared and feature a terrific sauce over the top to add a nice flair. The service was friendly without being intrusive, and they were very good about refilling water regularly. The portion sizes are great to share or to keep for yourself, although some items do get pricey as well (e.g. a 90 dollar steak). All-in-all, very well worth the trip!
Happened to visit on the first Tuesday of the month and did the Prix fix meal! Great food and great ambiance!
I came here for restaurant week. The server made good drink recommendations and the food was pretty good.
My new favorite spot in Chicago. Sour tropical campari cocktails are fantastic. Don't miss the pork chops.
Bone marrow with toast is worth dying for. Yummy cocktails. And they have alfajores!
Holy cow... no really amazing. From the drinks to the wood fired menu... amazing !!!
My new favorite in Chicago. Great steaks and my wife loved the salmon. Nice wine list and great vibe. Cool spot!
Definitely get the parrillada (best sweetbreads and Morcilla I've had in a while). The grilled oysters and pimento cheese were also both awesome.
Another recently discovered fine LATIN favorite of mine. We went last week which was 'restaurant week in Chicago and the samplings of different entres were delightful. I was impressed by how each different 'tapas' styled plate was more flavorful than the last. You can't go wrong with this place. Service was polite, timely and top notch.
I m from Argentina visiting Chicago. Che has a very good service. Food was also excellent. I recommend the place and I also recommend people to come to argentina and try the real asado
Great drinks, food and service. A little pricey, but we always enjoy it.
Love their steaks!
Great place to relax
Never disappoints.
Everything was great. Service was top notch. We decided to get a bunch of plates and share and it turned out awesome. We were able to add an additional item to the dishes so that we each could get a taste. Highly suggest the lamb ribs and quail!
Amazing food and atmosphere. Definite must try. Good date place.
Great service, food and drinks in a very hip and beautiful setting. Love this place!
The menu was so good we literally ordered one of everything for the table. I've eaten here a few times and I can't find anything to Complain about. Bring a date or a few friends but come hungry and try some cocktails.
Love the outdoor seating. Stopped in for a quick bite in the bar area. Such a pretty atmosphere. The oysters were so good grilled. The gnocchi with summer squash was delicious as were the hotlinks. Loved my Paloma drink and my baby loved his Rum Manhattan. Service was very good and the restaurant is so beautiful inside and out, live plants everywhere is very nice touch. Check it out. You will be pleased. Stopped in for another bite. Loved the steak, polenta, oysters and cookie. Yummy!!
Amazing food and ambience. Everything was fantastic, but the salmon was the best I've ever had. I knew the chef from La Sirena wouldn't let us down, and he most definitely did not. Can't wait to return!
Service and hostess were top knock notch. We had fantastic cocktails and the food was perfectly executed. The server was only there when needed but otherwise didn't interject during the meal. The bone marrow was maybe a bit over done, but everything else was great.
Went on a Thursday night with my wife and a couple of friends. The restaurant was highly rated on OpenTable and other websites, so I chose this for our dinner. The reception was nice and attentive/friendly. The ambiance was okay - the chairs seemed cheap and where uncomfortable. They didn't even look hip, which was a surprise for the area. Light bulbs in the fixtures were mismatched and different color temperatures, which is a small detail, but something I noticed immediately, and set the ambiance to a cheap/builder-grade decor. Service was not good. Our waiter was attentive and accommodating upon arrival, getting drink orders and coming back to take our order. After that, we didn't see him until the end of the meal when he handed us our check, even when we were obviously looking for him. He never checked in on us so we didn't have anyone to report to when we had issues with our meal. We ordered the pork chops which were burnt to a crisp and had a pretty bad mustard sauce on it. The chimichurri was good, and the dried out/burnt pork chop needed a lot of it, and the peanuts that were on it looked like they were just thrown on. Bizarre for a $28 entrée. The NY strip steak was cooked fine, but it was horribly under seasoned. For $58 it should be an great steak. But I did not care for it, and I'm a steak lover. The other small plates were unremarkable. The best thing I ate were the Brussel sprouts. As I didn't want to make a scene with our dinner guests present, I kept my mouth shut and didn't complain about the poor service nor when I couldn't get a second drink order in. I flagged down one of the food runners, not realizing it wasn't our waiter. Eventually, another server came to our table, and I was able to order a drink, but it took nearly 20 minutes to receive. It was a pretty disappointing experience, especially considering it was a $260 tab for 4 diners. With as many amazing dining options as there are in the West Loop, I highly doubt I'll return to El Che Bar.
Delicious food awesome service great drinks
Great argentinian steak house, gnocchi is amazing.
El Che bar was beyond phenomenal. We got the chef's table for my best friend's birthday and it was a non-stop onslaught of the best food you've ever tasted. The chef and all the staff are amazing and friendly, we were looking at pictures of his dog before the night was through. Expect to spend a lot of time here, but it's incredibly worth it. Do it. Doooo it!
The food was amazing. Everything that we ate was so full of flavor. Even the broccoli was to die for!! I actually had seconds! ...of broccoli! ! The server was great as well. Very attentive.
Great food and alcohol selection, just a little pricey.
Great steak. Mayan is a great server. They don't have Jameson, which I don't like, so I'm fine with it, but I know that may be a point of contention for some.
What a treat! El Che offers the best of food, ambiance, and service. You are treated with a rare level of service. There is something for everyone on the menu. Everything is tast!
We had an interesting experience at El Che. The food was very good. We ordered everything to share. We started with pimento cheese dip, and ordered the sirloin, short ribs (which are not your typical short ribs, just be warned ), asparagus side, sweet potato side dish, and an artichoke side. The sweet potato side dish I was a little worried about because it said it had caramel on top, and I was worried it would be too sweet. But it was delicious and very well balanced! The asparagus with Bearnaise sauce was also delicious! It had some fried shallots (I think?) on top and was really good. The sirloin was okay. The short ribs were mediocre. The waitress warned us that they were not what you are used to with short ribs. They were extremely fatty and had barely any meat on them. If you like fat, then these would be great for you. I had the dolce de leche ice cream for dessert and it was very good. So all in all the food was good. The service was another story. Our waitress was kind of standoffish and almost treated us as if we were idiots when asking questions about the menu. She was fine to have minimal interaction with, but I certainly wouldn't be rushing back here for the service. I'm not sure if that was a particularly bad day for her, or what, but we all kind of left their feeling put off, which is a bummer because we were very excited to try El Che out for the food. They do have valet. I did not see a lot of parking, so I'm not sure how promising parking yourself would be. Also, as a side note which I know really doesn't matter that much but overall affected our experience, the bathrooms were - I kid you not- 95 degrees. I legitimately was sweating after being in the bathroom for 2 minutes. I don't know if the heat was broken or what but it was unbearable.
Great food, atmosphere and service! Loved the trout, their salads, empanadas and the Sweet Potatoes!!!!!
Great food and atmosphere, we pretty much cleaned our plates
Very Chic place. Went for an Xmas party. Tried Everything. All of it was Sensational.
Loved the experience
Fantastic happy hour!
Very good place to have dinner with friends. Great food and cocktails. Winr selection is good as well.
This restaurant has authentic Argentinian food. The ambiance is wonderful. The food is presented beautifully. The steaks as expected were excellent. Servers and staff were friendly and attentive. Worth checking out when in the west loop.
Excellent food and wine selection. Shout out to Hugo for being wonderful at his job.
Great happy hour and parradilla special. Probably wouldn't pay full prices
Love the cocktails here
First place I've ever given 5 stars. I did because the food was unique, well plated and delicious. The drinks were great and the wine selection is perfect for the food pairings and the service was amazing. Water glasses were never empty, they transferred out plates and silverware quickly and dessert was delicious. Definitely try this place. Bone marrow recommended
Super delicious spot!! Great service, we ordered half the menu and there was nothing we didn't like!!!
Great place for dinner and drinks. Had their $44 prix fixe (available every Tues) which was absolutely delicious. Ate at the bar and had the pleasure of being served by Jacy the bar manager/tender. She was super friendly and gave tips on which bars to also check out as I am not from Chicago.
My preferred place for argentinian food. Went there on a Friday I think. I've had nothing but great experiences here and will keep coming back. The place has a great feel to it.
Great atmosphere and awesome food!
Great steakhouse with a cozy but lively ambiance. I would highly recommend the Jalapeño popper empanadas as an appetizer; they do have some heat so don’t say I didn’t warn you. We also had the flank steak and the pork chops, they were phenomenal. We will be back with a larger group to try the parrillada. (Recommended for a group of 3-4 people)
John. The morcilla. The empanadas. Steak. Fantastic service. Thank you.
Great cocktails
Overall, excellent meal. Beautiful space and interesting shared plates. Dessert was a highlight as it was delicious and fun to look at. Highly recommend this spot in the WL!
Loved this place when we first went in 2016 but the quality has definitely gone downhill. Steaks were over cooked, dry and kind of chewey.
Real wood fire grill. Amazing steaks. Fresh chimichurri. Best service.
Lovely. Great service and food
One of my favorites of all times!
Great Flame broiled menu!
Really wonderful experience here. Had a large party show up and the service was spot on and very attentive. From the decor and ambiance to the food, it was a great time. I really enjoyed my steak. It was done perfectly. And also the cocktails were perfection. This is a great place for a date, special occasion or a business meal. High recommend!
Everything about this place is excuiste. From when you walk in, the ambiance is great. It really gives it a great date night vibe or romantic setting. Then the food. I love small menus because it shows the chef is focusing on couple of items instead of having a wide assortment. This showed in the food which was wonderful. We had empendadas, filet mignon, gnochii, and flan. All tasted well cooked and carefully crafted. High recommend this place.
The ambiance is arresting, but dictates very little. Nothing appears out of the norm from an intimate meal to a small gathering. More importantly the small plates through the large plates and even the dessert are spectacular. The cocktails manage to keep pace with the demand for excellence. I shall return, without a doubt.
Loved the bar and drink selection!
Nice little Argentinian steakhouse. The staff and service are fantastic, and took care of us very well. They have a fantastic selection of cocktails and wine. The Argentinian wine suggested to us was delicious. The food, overall, was good, but I was a little disappointed in the porterhouse our table ordered. It was a little overcooked versus what we ordered.
Energetic restaurant with spot on food and cocktails.
I'd rate it a 3 1/2 if possible. The service was flat out awful. Waitstaff seemed very overwhelmed. There was easily 10 busboys to 1 waiter Food was hit and miss, but definitely shows potential. Get the Ice Cream Sandwich. I'll go back but won't be in a hurry.
An amazing meal all around. Service was impecable. Food was stellar! Great wines as well. I would highly recommend it to anyone in Chicago.
Overall excellent night out for our large party. Staff was very attentive and educated on the menu. We had consumed a solid sampling of the menu and while most entrees were excellent, the sweet potato and carrot sides could have used a little less char on them to the point where they could have been recognizable.
Food was outstanding and the service even better. Will definitely go back.
Visited for restaurant week yesterday. The grilled chorizo was very dried and the empanada was very heavy as a starter. It could be more fresher and lighter with something else instead of caramelized onions. But the arugola salad, shrimps, salmon, steak was great. Cons - seemed that they are lack of communicating with each staffs; They served starter 2 times and i’ve got desserts for to go but a minute later, desserts on the plate were served. - forgot to serve straw for cocktails
Great happy hour specials. Should be longer than actual hour though.
One star is too much. We make the reservation because love argentinians food, but.... surprise!!!! No costumers at the place (now understand why?) The food was not fresh, cold and extremely expensive. Make me sick, can't sleep because the stomach. Want to forget and I can't.
Great food, upscale atmosphere, lively open kitchen near the back
This place is amazing! I had the swordfish and it was A+++. Wish I had a pic to share but the swordfish was gone before I knew it.
Overpriced food drinks suck
Very bland food. A seriously forgettable experience and the sad attempt at delicious Argentine cuisine makes me wonder why the reviews are anywhere as high as they are. In retrospect, it's quite mind-boggling that this restaurant and La Sirena Clandestina (a parallel failed execution of delectable Brazilian cuisine) survive in an area (West Loop) where so many creative and amazing chefs thrive and succeed. That being said, their version of alfajores cookies is quite good but not good enough to carry the weight of the overall mediocrity.
Nice restaurant with BYOB policy!
Just a great place to eat meat!
Celebrated an anniversary with the chef's table, and it was incredible. I like to cook so getting to talk to and learn from the chef and the cooks was probably a once in a life time experience. Cannot recommend it enough.
Wheelchair accessible but no automatic door with push plate. The space is cozy and inviting while being sexy. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices high but on par with neighborhood.
Food is great, service was awesome, great wine selection and desserts! Would definitely come here again
Great spot!! Our recommendation is to order to share. Order: chicken empanada, shrimp is a must. Drinks: Negroni and Malbec tinto
Dinner for two at the chefs table for my Birthday. Chef/Owner John cooked a 10 course meal! Exceptional.
Awesome food and creative cocktails. Not a huge menu, but everything we had was delicious and well-done. Good service, a cool ambiance and interesting decor made this a fantastic spot for a date.
My fiancé and I recently came here for Valentine's day dinner. The service was great and the meal was ultimately very good. The only disappointing aspect of the meal was the main course - we ordered a ribeye and were not blown away by the steak or the chimichurri. Given the nature of the restaurant, we expected that to be the best part of the meal. Still a good experience overall.
This place is great for a cocktail. Good atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable bartender, fantastic decor, but the food was a bit over priced.
Horrible! The worst experience in my life. A total scam!
El Che Bar was a wonderful Saturday evening date/birthday celebration spot. We loved the atmosphere, background music, and all-around service. The food was delicious including empanadas, which we were given complimentary since our food was taking longer than expected!! The pork chops and flatiron steak were exceptional. The presentation of the praline affogato dessert was awesome and very tasty. I would highly recommend this place for an Argentinian spin to food as well some great Argentinian Malbec!
Had the bone in parillada, such an incredible amount of food. We were two men after a work out and still stuggled to get through all that meat.
Great service, atmosphere, and food
We tried the kale and gruyere empanada, beef Picadillo empanada, Parisian Gnocchi, charred carrots, thin cut pork chops, and churros. Everything was fantastic. If I was to pick only one to recommend, it would be the Parisian Gnocchi. Excellent and melt in your mouth.
Fantastic food! From the empanadas to the amazing steaks and the yummy desserts - everything was delicious and served by an excellent staff. Highly recommend!
The menu is ever changing and after 3 visits I've never had anything that I didn't love. Definitely get the bbq pork ribs if they're on the menu!
The food and ambience is very nice. We had the oysters, pickled shrimp and beets as starter. The gnocchi was fabulous, nice and fluffy. We shared as entrees - the sweetbreads, short ribs, and the filet. I really loved the sweetbreads. The sauce on the filet was amazing, great mustard flavor. The filet was cooked perfectly.
Great food, but $$$.
SWEETBREADS in the barbecue platter. The platter was enough for three. Sweetbreads, chorizo, blood sausage, flank steak. Well prepared and tasty. Waiter was not great but o.k. The food was 5 stars.
I guess before I post I should start with a disclaimer...i love steak...i love authentic cuisine...and unfortunately...im from Philadelphia. Now that thats out of the way...i was disappointed with El Che...Empanada barely warm in the middle like they slapped old refrigerated dry short rib in the middle...short ribs on the bone....chewy...i mean im sorry but in Philadelphia we go to the Italian Market and pick up premium cuts of beef...this meal should have been served with skirt steak...its just common sense...if you want to do short ribs...braise them...have them fall off the bone...dont give a chewy cut that I have to naw at in a crowded restaurant. Gnocchi...boring....It just didnt feel fresh...for the prices I expected little pillows with a deep rich pan fry. Nothing felt that premium...even the wine was Ok...for 80 bucks...in Philly...thats a 7 course dinner with foie gras and hanger steak and monk fish...but hey...i guess thats why I live in Philly. 3 stars for ambiance and friendliness.
This place amazes me always. I have been there about 4 times. The food and service is always great. Would highly recommend it for any type of event.
I’ve only had cocktails here. But they’re very good with a friendly bartender and relaxed scene. Pricing is similar to other chi-town bars ($13 cocktail)
Decent food - liked pimento cheese a lot, and asparagus was great if less than healthy. Didn't love service and prices seemed a tad higher than necessary
One of the best steaks I’ve ever tried.
Great service and menu
The best meat in chicago. They do know how to serve a stake
Amazing food and ambiance
This place didn't disappoint. The food is creative and outstanding. Everything is cooked with wood burning ovens and grills. The flavor is deep and complex. The service is well trained and heads up. Our server recognized that we were on a date, and kept his service attentive and minimal. That's a great sign of being pro. The environment is beautiful, but not distracting. This is a great place to impress, and experience something unique.
Loved the ambience and service and the food is excellent!!! The oysters, scamorza, morcilla, Lamb, pork and onions are a must! Congrats team El Che!
Morcilla is to die for... literally it will clog your arteries with amazingNess. The sweetbreads are my favorite savory dish this side of the Amazon. Enjoy!
This place is really terrific.
Good wine selection, yummy food, friendly service. We had the "Parillada" for $90 and it was plenty for two people (even three if appetites are light).
Go on a Tuesday, the meat board is $50 (vs $150). They have 4 veggie options too that are great.
The food was superb - over all a good value for what you get (exception was the shrimp appetizer). Monday night is half price wine night which was really great too. Very unique space with delicious food - would return!!!
Fine spot for Argentinian food. Staff is always nice even when they have a full house. The staff was friendly and observant. This place has a cool feel to it. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
My friend and I had a wonderful meal at the Chef's counter. Everything that was prepared was fantastic. The atmosphere, ambiance, and everything about the overall experience made it one of the best dining experiences of our lives. It's perfect for a date night, with just 2 seats right in the action. Chef John was awesome! Special mention of the gnocchi which was phenomenal.
Excellent service. Delicious food. Beautiful atmosphere.
There was nothing on this menu that was disappointing. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love this place.
Cute little place with great food! Definitely get the veggie sides as well as the meat.
Beautiful decor, great service, outstanding food and cocktails. Went for restuarant week. The prix fixe menu was perfect and my choices were delicious. A great experience all around!
Great Japanese sweet potatoes and carrots. And might be the best gnocchi I've ever had!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! The steak was divine.
Nice drinks!
Yummy food! I loved the steak platter. They have the specials on Tuesdays
We love everything John Manion does
I had the Old Fashioned and morning wife had an Aperol spritz. Nothing crazy taste wise, but both were presented very properly. Food wise we had small plates of Brussels Sprouts in some sort of cashew glaze and then a Gnocchi dish with goat cheese, pomegranates and mushrooms. Both were fantastic and creative dishes. Not cheap, but worth it for date night. Also, wine list was better than average and not ridiculously priced.
Expensive, but the steaks are great. Service is excellent, the restaurant is cozy and comfortable.
Great Argentinean food in Chicago
It's new so the Google profile isn't complete here. But it's definitely worth checking out. The entrance is a little hidden in the Checker Cab building. They use a wall of flames in the kitchen which gives the food a subtle smokey flavor.
Excellent service, food, and drinks.
Interior has great atmosphere, everything we ordered was great and the service was very good. They have a sidewalk patio as well, but we sat inside this time
My husband picked El Ché for dinner. We went early and sat in the bar. Our server was great, recommended items and drinks. The margarita is amazing. We tried a few items, but our favorite was the sweet breads, such a different presentation. We will definitely be back for more sweet breads!
Had a date night there and it was good. They let us on quickly although we didn't make any reservation. It was Thursday night and not too busy night for them at that time. However, it took awhile for the server to reach our table and took our first order. But once he got to us, he assisted us well. The Japanese sweet potatoes were excellent. We really enjoyed it as much as the oyster. I always prefer raw oysters but their grilled ones were delicious. I ordered the fish and it was fantastic. The steak that we got was so so though. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.
This is a very cool space with outstanding food and service.
Increible. The best morcilla I've ever had. Creative cocktails and desserts top it all off. Great for a drink and a bite or a full-on date night.
Went here for a birthday and was a little surprised. The food was good but not great. I really expected it to be a lot better.
Scott was great. Food was amazing, pork chops and hanger steak!
I had reservations and still had to wait for an hour. As we waited the host comped champagne for our group for the extended wait which was a nice touch. The food is really good, service is slow which makes sense why we waited so long before seated. The ambience is nice and may return one day. Hopefully they can step up the service.
Cool vibe but steak unfortunately was tough.
Had to send a dish back because it was so poorly prepared.
We signed a contract, left a credit card, and the owner canceled the party. It was for 15 people, for Saturday. Just not professional!
Argentinian food... delicious. i had a brother come into town and he asked me to go back here.
Very creative menu and impressive wine list. The asparagus and branzino are a must.
Went with a group of four for dinner. We decided to get several dishes and share family style. We ordered: Los Pinguinos Punch: Comes in a fun penguin pitcher. Would compare it to a red sangria. Not too sweet, a little tart. Fugazetta: Delicious, almost a cross between a quiche and pizza. Herbed Parisian Gnocchi: This was decadent and the sauce was amazing. I would go back for this and eat it as a full meal or side. Wood Roasted Amish Chicken: really great serving, meat was moist and flavorful. Veggies were cooked to perfection. Great flavors all around. Glad I tried it.
Meat platter was awesome, good drinks and ambience. Another great addition to the west loop.
Amazing food and ambiance
Great dining experience. Attentive staff. Highly recommended booking the chef's counter.
On a rainy Thursday night, service was slow and uninviting. The tequila and mezcal drinks had good flavor. Cooked oysters were good, but not drive out of your way. Sweet potatoes are worth a try. The steak was gummy,as in chewy. The branzino fish was ok, it had good flavor. Over all the presentation and plating were lackluster. It's overpriced for the quality and service.
Nice environment but I expected the bone in ribeye to be more flavorful.
Timely service and comfortable atmosphere. Steak, salmon, and shrimp dishes were well-seasoned and cooked perfectly- especially enjoyed the shrimp and polenta dish. Tres leches cake was not moistened by the milk mixture all the way through. Dishes can be pricey.
Wow!! The food was outstanding. The staff friendly and attentive. Highly recommend El Che Bar. We will be back.
