Apr 21, 2019 update: Easter Sunday had another wonderful dinner experience at this fine bistro in LZ. Food was great, but the service from Kristen was even better. We were a group of 9 that "challenged" her quite a bit with fun comments. She had great comebacks and smiles of her own. It's was our pleasure to once again receive such good food and holiday fun. And Marisol was there too doing her great job with other patrons on a busy and active day. Thank you DJs. You're the best and so is your staff! Prior Review Written in 2018: My group of 7 last night enjoyed a terrific dinner at this wonderful French restaurant in LZ. As always the food was amazing. (We've eaten there dozens of times since the restaurant first opened years ago.) The service was the absolute best! Thank you Marisol for your great attention to our table. We'll be back for sure.

This is one of our favorite places! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you! When you step inside, you feel like you're in France! Food is wonderful and the owners are very welcoming and friendly! Make sure to make reservations! They are very busy most of the time.

We’ve been coming here for ten plus years, I can’t believe I never rated them before. The monthly specials of classic French dishes are usually my go to. Coq au Vin, beef bourgenione and paella are definite to dos. I had the lamb loin with herbs as well, and that was excellent. Get the pate maison if you have never had a pate and want to try it. Also, foie gras here is excellent. Decent wine by the glass list too, and the cocktail menu is good.

Over the last 15 years we’ve dined at D & J Bistro 90 + times as it’s served as a favorite for Anniversaries, birthdays, gathering with friends or date night and we’ve never been disappointed. Stephane and chef Masato have consistently delivered unique & delicious food and wine pairings, great service in a comfortable setting, similar to what we’ve experienced in top European bistros, all to create a reasonably priced experience. Bread pudding and artisan pheasant is amazing!

Love the steak here, I believe I get the filet, the sauce on the steak is so good that I try to dip my fries in it too. They are great at accommodating large parties. I have gone with a party of 11 for a family birthday and they did a great job with all of our orders. Great quality restaurant!

The food is amazing. The menu hasn't changed much over the years, but it doesn't have to - these French cuisine staples are timeless. The service is always top notch - as one would expect. The reason for 4 stars is we had to wait over 45 minutes to get seated with a prior reservation. This was for a birthday party of 8, and while we kept waiting at the bar, not even an offer of a comped wine for the birthday girl. On top of everything, the bartender went looking for us to pay off the tab, instead of simply adding it to the bill. So 4 stars.

My wife wanted to try this restaurant so we finally made it there and was greeted and sited right away. The server asked if we will be having wine and since we don't drink wine we said no. He did not like the answer and you could see it on his face. Overall experience was good, the portions were very small so if you want to eat well at this place prepare to spend a ton of money or go elsewhere.

Relaxed French bistro with a FANTASTIC menu. Mussels are better than any other restaurant. Steak frites to die for. My friends always order lamb burgers. Desserts are heaven. They have a regular menu but also a monthly specials menu. Don't go there...it's MINE!

It was my first time here, I will start by saying that the food that I selected this time didn't impress me at all, I ordered scargots and risotto sea food, it didn't feel like fresh ingredients, maybe because I'm used to eat very fresh and raw sea food :D. In the other hand, the creme brule was delicius and has a very good and creamy texture and the service and the ambient is very good too. It definitely deserves a second chance, maybe yo try something more bold and hopefully tasty.

Delicious dinner in a cozy setting. From the warm welcome to the friendly service we really enjoyed birthday celebration. Dinner was, as always delicious. I appreciate the price fixe menu always has something I like but we order a la carte also. Very good desserts are made in house. Loved the pineapple tart! The pound cake with cherries was also good.

I really like D & J. It's a great little unassuming, family owned restaurant with pretty authentic French cuisine. The menu is pretty extensive and pretty French, but very approachable. Great cocktails and a good wine list. The service can be a little slow.. but in a European experience kind of way, if that makes sense It's not cheap, but good for an occasional night out.

Wow!!! I can't believe how much you can charge for such a bad food! How come this place has good reviews?! The worst soup I've ever had. The rabbit was like a rubber and i think they were out of spices that day.....? If you charge so much, please, please teach your chefs how to cook in a fancy restaurant because I think you were going for that... and the old waiter who didn't know anything about your menu didn't help too.

D&J Bistro is one of my personal FAVORITE restaurants in the Lake-Zurich area. The restaurant brings its elegance and Parisian-bistro decor to create a cozy environment in its otherwise unappealing strip mall setting. The upscale restaurant does not underwhelm, with every dish having an authentic French taste, and an exotic twist. The bar area is fantastic, and the mind-blowing alcohol list has true gems. If you're looking for the best French bistro in Lake Zurich, or even the entire county, D&J Bistro is the place to go to.

I have dined at D&J several times. The food was always good, however ownership is rotten. On my last visit I broke a tooth because their New York Strip had a sharp piece of bone that got jammed into my tooth as I took a bite. I only ate a quarter of my steak when this happens. The owner came out and didn't believe me that I broke my tooth. He demand to see a piece of my tooth that broke off. Luckily I still had a piece of my molar in my hands so I showed it to him. He ended up taking it from me to show it to his dentist to make sure it was really a tooth. How rude is that? Not only was I treated rude, but I was also presented with a full bill. I ended up paying for a steak which I only ate a quarter of on top of paying $800 to repair a broken tooth. The owner didn't do anything to keep me as a customer. A month later I got a call from his insurance company that said that they can't process the claim because they can't be responsible for what's inside the steak since the restaurant doesn't cut the steaks, but simply cooks them. I will never go to this place again, and will recommend all my friends, neighbors, and co-workers to stop going there.

My wife and I went to dinner here last night for our anniversary. We could not have found a better place to celebrate our special night. The owner Masato treated us like royalty. The food was absolutely amazing. We had the chicken and the pasta D specials. While the food tasted like you were at the finest restaurant in America the prices were so reasonable. The complimentary dessert with happy 34th anniversary on the plate was just another great touch to complete this great experience. If they have it, I would also recommend the pineapple tart special. So good! Thanks again and we cant wait to go back again. I would recommend making a reservation. It was obvious that we weren’t the only ones who feel this way. It was busy.

A gem! D&J is a stalwart in french bistro dining in the NW suburbs. Don't let the outside fool you. Once you're inside, you get transported into a cozy French atmosphere. Food was excellent from beginning to end. The braised rabbit leg was falling off the bone good. And the blackberry sorbet was a prefect way to end the meal. This a great place to stop by when your in the Lake Zurich area.

Went here for my birthday dinner. We love French cuisine and I am so glad we found a French restaurant near Arlington Heights. D & J Bistro did not disappoint, everything from them returning your call after you left a message to make reservations, to just the overall dining experience. For starters, the have a very attentive and extremely friendly wait staff. Doesn’t your meal simply taste better when it’s served by a super nice waitress? They have an extensive cocktail and wine menu (try there martinis), delicious choices of appetizers as well as there entrees. For the appetizers we tried both the escargot and the foie gras respectively. The escargot was right on point, but I will say it’s the foie gras that had my bouncing on clouds. My mouth is drooling as I’m writing this and remembering the experience. Very creamy texture, the taste to die for, you just need to experience this yourselves to grasp what I’m talking about my fellow foodies. For dinner I had the braised lamb, very tender, the kind where the meat easily falls off the bone, very well made. My girlfriend had the duck special (Le Canard Roti Aux Cerises) I tried a little, it was both tender and crispy simultaneously. The soufflé was very good as well. Just so you know, they have there own in house pastry chef, so the desserts are made in house. As an added touch to the evening, since it was my birthday, they graciously brought our table an assortment of various sweets, so nice of them! There you have it. If you’re out in the NW suburbs like ourselves and If you’re in the mood for French cuisine, you no longer need to take the hour trip to the city when you can have a touch of Paris right here in Lake Zurich.

Wow! I love finding new favorites. We had the Mini Chateaubriand and the Idaho Rainbow Trout Almondine last night and loved every bite. Perfect size portions, not over stuffed saved room for dessert. Went outside the box of usual cake, as D&J has a pastry chef that blew us away with their creativity with peaches and pears. Very high quality ingredients throughout.

Oddly located in a strip mall this restaurant is incredible. Great bar area if you like to arrive ahead of your reservation for a cocktail. Blue cheese stuffed olives made on the spot for you martini lovers. After you're done in the bar prepare for a meal you won't soon forget. The Chateaubriand for one is gonna put a big smile on your face.
