REVIEWS OF Blackbird Restaurant IN Illinois

We walked in because the restaurant next door was too noisy. Very attentive staff - we were amused each time waiters converged on our table with our salads and then our meals. Great place for a special dinner, but don't come too hungry. We started with warm sourdough and butter, which took off the edge. Salads were tiny but yum. Others loved the duck and the sable-fish entrees. Each bite of my vegetarian dish was delectable (though too salty), but for $36, couldn't there be a few more vegetables? Just because you cut something into paper thin slices doesn't give it more substance, especially when one is getting protein via vegetables. The plum dessert was exquisite (shared). I'm not a piggy, but I needed a snack just a few hours later -

Coll Gee

Loved the lunch price fixe. We added an additional course and splurged on cocktails and cappuccino.

Radim Svoboda

Underwhelmed. While the design of this restaurant is very chic, our tartare had more onions than meat and the steak that came after it was cold. The waiter did a great job but couldn't make up for a crazy high price for champagne and therefore outrageous sum on the final bill. You should pass on this place.

Christine Knaggs

One of the most unique culinary experiences of my life. We had the tasting menu, and I will admit that a couple courses were out of my comfort zone, but it was enjoyable and a bit adventurous. Definitely a treat.

Lisa Ann Robertson

Amazing taste and texture combinations from the appetizers to dessert.

Mo Hu

Great value for restaurant week. Friendly staff but quite noisy. The entree somehow is too salty for me. Shimp confit is really delicious.

Dave Huang

Small and Cozy contemporary American with a bit of French twist. Not too pricey but do not expect to get a lot of food which is perfect for date night. Noise level is a little high but acceptable for a conversation. Both food and service are exceptional. Will definitely visit again. There is a great wine pairing menu.

Qianyi X

Space is small and cozy, staffs are friendly, food is yummy! Had duck and beef dish there, recommend them all.

Laura Nava

Food and service were perfect and amazing. I prefer to ask for the check and not have it presented right after the last course..

bjohnan

Excellent. We went for a birthday and they set us up outside on a gorgeous day. I have food allergies to shellfish and they suggested they could alter the tasting menu to fit my needs. We ended up ordering ala carte and all our food was delicious. Later on they brought out a birthday dessert with candle which was just as well thought out as the rest of the experience. Highly recommend.

Such an amazing lunch deal!!

William Jaramillo

The tasting menu was awesome. Service was great. Exceeded .y expectations. Will definitely go back

Robert Williams

Still fresh cuisine after two decades. Tight space, but personable and kind service makes it worth the wait (even with reservations or can back up). Due to the delay seating we were cutting it close - they managed our service flawlessly, leaving time for coffee, and had a taxi waiting when we walked out.

Kaylyn Murray

Went during the lunch and got a prifixed menu. Everything was phenomenal. Everyone was nice and helpful. All the food came out quick with good timing. I'd definitely go again

Anthony Chiesa

Amazing food and priced appropriately. Wonderful experience. Try the Pork Pavé, trust me

Paul Reilly

Great spot to get into an argument with your brother at

Elle McComsey

Amazing, fun and adventurous tasting menu.

Adam Braatz

My wife and I dined here for our anniversary. The food was spectacular and the service was beyond outstanding. They made us feel welcome and appreciated from the word go. We will definitely be back.

Dyfed Richards

The roadkill BBQ was great.

Lawrence Grose

Restaurant week made it a little tight but service was excellent desserts were sublime but my dish was not as good as my friends dish

micorazon97

The service is great, and the food was really good. My only gripe is how closely seated you are next to everyone. When I walked in I thought it was a long banquet table, but they are in fact small tables clustered right next to each other.

Luis Contreras

Amazing restaurant with a great and friendly staff! The food was delicious. I can't wait to go back!

Pedro Bernard

american food, yeah, so good. super place to meet and chat with coworkers. i had a cousin come into town and asked me to take him back here. the bill was good for what you get. feels like a place in los angeles i loved.

Bernie Echeverria

Have you ever had tuna so good you thought, holy moly that’s tuna? And that’s an appetizer?? Yeah this place So much to offer. From the original buyer made the outdoor seating. If you catch it on a good day and are not too busy you’ll have the best lunch or brunch date. The staff is super nice Nd the head chef puts a lot of thought into his dishes.

Pnt Laloë

Exceptional food & wine list. Crowded & noisy room.

Charles Taylor

Excellent service and food!

I have to admit I was slightly skeptical, being from New Orleans, going to a restaurant where on the website they say something about "Midwestern cuisine" ... but man was I wrong. We were there with a big group and we all did the tasting menu and it was phenomenal. Obviously very pricey when you start pouring bottles of wine, but at the end of the day, it was a meal I will remember for the rest of my life. All the accolades that line the walls are extremely well deserved. Bravo!

The greatest taste, good price!!! No more word needed. Definetely visit again! and again.

One of the best meals I've had in Chicago. Service and ambience were perfect, food was out of this world. Started with a selection of three cheeses (perfectly described by our charming and knowledgeable server), followed by the best mussels I've ever had. Rutabaga tagliatelle and duck breast also delicious. Sourdough bread with miso butter a must-have (if you're into bread of course). As others have noted, portion sizes are a little small, which is generally expected for such a fine dining experience. I did think the duck breast could have been a little more substantial.. they were nice enough to split the portion in half for my date and I, but at $42 there was only about 3-4 bites for each of us. My only minor criticism. Vanilla pavlova for dessert rounded everything out. Great music selection I should add

Rebecca Herron

I had been waiting to eat here for a long time. I started with a sweetbread app and had a skate wing for dinner, which I had never had before. Both protiens were cooked perfectly and were so rich and tender. Our waitress was a bit short with my table but I went with a few challenging clients, so I will give her somewhat of a pass, although service was probably the low point of the evening. This is a Chicago icon and I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a wonderful, established place to have a small special occasion dinner or date night.

Mike Davitt

Girl & the Goat versus Blackbird? Easy. Go with Blackbird. From the fresh multi-grain bread with unique flavored butter to the truffled shrimp and lobster app to the exquisite sturgeon and duck entrées, this is an exceptional place! Highly attentive service (Heather).

Heba Sayeda

My husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary here

Jon Tetlak

Blackbird is one of the first restaurants to open up gastronomy here in the city and started restaurant row down Randolph. It is a small, sleek and modern decor that is inviting. It is an intimate place so it can feel like it is crowded and not good for large groups. I went for restaurant week during lunch and it was busy but manageable. The food and service were both very good. The shrimp con fit was delicious and pork was tender and flavorful with just the right amount of salt. This is a highly recommended higher end restaurant that fits the budget.

Nicole Anyaogu

Excellent food. The restaurant itself was kind of small and we sat very close to our neighbors. Staff was phenomenal.

Allison Martinez

We were part of a private party. Excellent food and service.

Malory Thelen

The service and food were great. The entrees are really what stand out for me: both the duck and the lamb saddle were perfect and unique in their ingredients. The decor of Blackbird is minimalistic, with white tablecloths and walls, but it allows you to focus on the food even more!

Florian Poli

We had the lunch Prix Fixe which is a bargain. Food was really good although maybe not as excellent as one could have expected from a one star Michelin restaurant. Nice service, old fashioned decor, and located a bit outside the city centre in a "friche" post-industrial area.

Christina Chen

Delicious. Go for the tasting menu! A very nice experience. The marinated mussels, green curry tortellini in pork consomme, roasted lamb saddle and white chocolate carrot cake were my favorites.

Deeb Dweik

Pros: great food.. Impeccable service.. Great drinks.. Good location Cons: more pricey than I would expect... Decor is simpler than I would expect for a michellen rated restaurant.. Overall amount of food less than I would expect

Dalt Brewsher

The best lunch and deal we had while in Chicago was at Blackbird. The atmosphere, the drinks, the bread, the food, the service, it was all divine. I wish we had more time as we would have wanted to come back and do the tasting menu for dinner. We sat at the bar and felt like that was a more fun casual vibe. The bartender was also our server which was fine because we got to see him make drinks while we had our lunch and he gave great recommendations on drinks & wine with our yummy lunch. Don't hesitate to stop by here for a meal, we have it on our list to return to do the tasting menu next time we are in town.

Jamie Dihiansan

Lovely service. The staff was attentive and friendly. The noise level was ok. Music wasn't too loud, so you could have a conversation. However the intimate seating made it so you could easily eavesdrop on other conversations which was distracting. Food was great. Here's a little something set out after dinner service.

Jessica Ahn

The food was unique and tasty, for the most part. Ordered: 4 prix fixe for lunch Appetizer: Eggplant tempura: delicious but a bit salty: Bar harbor mussel: standard mussel dish. Chilled pea soup: delicious! +egg toast: scrumptious. The truffle oil on top is a perfect compliment to the savory, buttery bread it sits atop. Main: Country fried skate wing: moist, soft and crunchy outside. Perfecto! Pork pavé: tender, savory and Smokey. Dessert: Caramelized white chocolate bar: not what I expected. Very unique. It’s subtly sweet and thick with raspberry sorbet served that compliments the flavor with salty and savory. It has texture in the seeds and crispy strips. Almond coffee cake: tart, crumbly, pretty Pro tip: the complimentary birthday dessert is quite delicious. Not sure what it is but it has a coconut element to it. Complimentary bread and herb butter served.

Kevin Gan

This place was awesome... the mussel appetizer, lamb main, and merengue dessert were all outstanding.

Andrew Aczel

A bit crowded inside but worth the trip. A neat modern restaurant, I reccomend the pre-fix menu

Sigvard Alarcon

I couldn’t help but laugh at some of my food because of how clever they were.

Diana Davis

I waited a couple of weeks to post this review. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food was spectacular; however, the wine paring was insulting. We were served entry level white wines and one Rose. Only one red wine was offered and again it was entry level quality. The wine experience was such a let down for $80 per person, we ordered a good bottle of wine to enjoy the meal. Thank you Blackbird, we will not trust your low end “wine pairing “ again. Stick to serving food and save your embarrassment.

Xu Wang

Extremely rude waitress! We had 9:30 reservation, but arrived 30min early. There are many people writing at the desk. The waitress 'picked' us to ask us to wait outside or going to the surrounding bars so that to make room for others. Will Never come again.

Nathan Andrews

My girlfriend and I visited Blackbird for our 3 year anniversary. The staff made us feel very special and celebrated when they greeted us with champagne as we were seated. We had the 10 course tasting menus with wine pairing (do it!) and we were blown away. The food and wine were amazing. The atmosphere could have been a bit quieter and darker (very bright lights) and we had to have them turn the heat down at one point, but that wasn’t enough to take away from the truest unique tastes.

Dalt Brewsher

I want to go back and take pictures! I had one of the most amazing dinners since I've lived in Chicago here. This is a special place too. I would not recommend this for a first date. This is a well oiled machine and they take their time to ensure the quality of your meal is nothing short of amazing! Dinner will last close to 1.5-2hours 5 star service, beautiful food and a talented chef/kitchen.

Bernard Wagner

Fine spot for tasty american food. service is always prompt even when they have a full house. the staff was friendly and sociable. it has a great atmosphere. ambience reminds me of san diego's scene.

Curry Glanton

Blackbird is another great Chicago dining experience! Amazing food, impeccable service, and a fun vibe. It checks all the right boxes! It is a great West Loop spot.

C Mink

Small plates but very interesting recipes the food flavor was great

Griffin Barros-King

Absolutely incredible food, service and atmosphere. The waitress was very well prepared and new understood the nuances of each item on the menu which is sadly something a lot of nice restaurants lack these days. We came in without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly. I saw some other people have slightly harder times getting a table with no reservation on these reviews, but this is totally to be expected as it is a Michelin Star restaurant

K Rana

Really excellent lunch experience. Sat at the counter and ordered the fixed price menu. All of the items recommended by the bartender were terrific. Would eat here regularly if I lived here! :)

James Lougheed

what a wonderful experience! I was brought here by my good friend Matt S. while visiting Chicago. Upon entering we were greeted by the manager (David) and shown to our table. We were made to feel very welcome. The service was exceptional. We were treated to a fantastic yet subtle explosion of pleasure inducing flavanoids. I can readily say that the kitchen and front house of Blackbird provided me with the finest dining experience of my life. I highly reccomend visiting this establishment.

Jade James-Gist

I made a reservation for my sisters after day of long interviews, which ultimately landed one a job in Chicago(!)They arrived early for a drink and checked in with the host, but over 15 minutes past their reservation, they were not alerted that their table was ready. When she told the host about their wait, she deflected the responsibility to my sister, and then communicated that they could sit at any time. They sat late ~8:30. The appetizers came out on time, but their entrees took over an hour to get to the table. When my sister told the waitress, she made the excuse that they wanted to give my sisters “enough time with their appetizers”. After that long wait (and day), they were exhausted and ready to take their dinner to-go. Overall, the food was excellent, but the service/logistics was..off.

Charisma Nguyen

I personally didn't like the setting. It felt cramped. I feel like there were only a few inches between us and the tables next to us. It was loud and busy, probably from all the tables they shoved in the restaurant. My friends had hyped up the restaurant to me, but I do think it's a bit overrated. The food was good, but didn't blow my mind.

Daniel Yong

Excellent food, beautiful plating and great wine pairings. However, I do find the service to be a little pretentious and sometimes pushing you to spend more. The first time I dined here, when we said we would be passing on dessert, the waiter scoffed at us and said something along the lines of, “well it’s not like we have the best desserts in the city”.

Paul Haber

I have to start my review by saying this is a fantastic restaurant. It's classy, refined and creative. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the cuisine and very friendly. So you ask why not a perfect 5 stars... well you will see. To start I had the most wonderful lobster and horseradish spread on grilled fresh bread. It was absolutely divine and decadent. Who would have ever imagined that lobster and horseradish went together so well??? Here is where things went downhill. My main was the steak from the menu. I love steak, I mean, I love steak, all kinds of cuts but this piece of striploin was slightly under par. I think it was cooked sous vide then grilled. Here was the issues I had with it: It could have been grilled a bit more to give a bit of crust and flavor and the peice of meet was a very stringy. I had to really chew it. Don't get me wrong this was an excellent sourced piece of meat, but just by cutting in half you could tell it may not have been the best in house that night. Small blemish on the entire meal. My dessert consisted of something I love most... CHEESE. So good paired with a nice glass of Cabernet. All in all, an excellent meal. Would have been perfect if the star of the meal would have been selected better. STILL A MUST TRY IN CHICAGO

David Jones

The atmosphere is contemporary and upscale. The menu is creative; combining ingredients that surprise and delight your taste buds. The staff ... wonderful!

Joe Daniel

Great service. Bold balanced flavors. Worth the pricetag

S. Mulder

Service could be better.

Vanessa Crews

The prix fix menu was a culinary delight. Service was top notch. An enjoyable lunch on a beautiful day.

Ryker Merritt

American food and the scene at this place is super good. Food with real quality ingredients. I look forward to a return trip. The place has a great feel to it.

Kimberly Trautmann

Favorite restaurant in Chicago. Excellent service, creativity and food quality.

Paul Cote

Great tasting menu and wine pairing

Elisa D'Amico

One of my favorites. Great food year after year.

Tara Moody

Beautifully prepared dishes with attentive service. The Ahi Tuna Poke and Farmers Cheese Napoleon were my favorites (pictured). We also enjoyed the Salad of Endive and for entrees the monkfish and beef tenderloin, however both entrees seemed a bit over-salted. Overall a fantastic experience with very personable and accommodating wait staff.

A L

They didnt defrost the butter, which has already ruin my first impression. Other than that, the appetizer and entree taste good. The service was okay.

Steven Strong

Really good fixed price lunch menu! Good deal (only $28)

Todd Breault

I ordered the beef striploin. I got the worst food poisoning of my life.

Alfredo Ramundo

This was my first time, I thought it was very good.

Mingjun Wang

Amazing food here. Better than many three star Michelin three stars restaurants. Will try the tasting menu next time.

Ashley Kalchik

Truly my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Every meal is perfect and the scene is comfortable. The staff is lovely as well. A must go if you like small dishes and INCREDIBLE FOOD.

Chelsea Carrasco

Yummy. Great service. Lunch prix fixe menu for $25 was an affordable way to try a few different items! Hangar steak dish was the star of the show.

Stephanie Lovell

Went for lunch. Had the $28 prix fixe menu. Chilled corn soup, country fried skate wing, and the sourdough bread pudding

Arun Das

Absolutely delicious food. Smaller portion size but that's to be expected and the taste more than makes up for it. Can't wait to go back!

Bruce Verkruyse

Fantastic food and service. The chief here is amazing. Our server Andrew was fabulous. He was knowledgeable and informative. We highly recommend wine pairings. We created our own five course meal.

Samuel Waggoner

Came here for a casual get-together but stayed for a 13-course Reserve menu with wine pairing. There is an only limited amount of reserve menu available on certain days. Make sure you check the reservation. The food is very interesting, the chief's menu is greatly influenced by Japanese ingredients. A creative combination of eastern and western cuisine. Each dish is beautifully presented and the wine pairing is very thoughtful. The service is impeccable, I forgot our waitress' name but she mentioned she is from Germany. She is very professional and funny. The only drawback is that the three dessert courses were not very impressive

Isaac Morrison

Nice spot for delicious American food. It was so appetizing. Staff treated us so kindly. Bring your hunger - portions are large. Kinda of like a place in Houston that I enjoyed.

Kaylie Plauche

We had the chefs 6 course selection on a weeknight which was fabulous. They accommodated my gluten allergy by switching out beer broth muscles for these AMAZING blueberry ribs. Seriously some of the best meat I’ve had and the highlight of this meal. Other than this the desert was wonderful and the service was nice too. Didn’t love some of the other dishes sauce pairings. Was a little too salty for me. But nonetheless a great dinner for a special occasion.

Farheen Derni

Went for lunch and chose the pre fix menu - had the mushroom soup to start, it was good but too salty. Second course chose to have skate wing which was delicious, tempura fried with hint of coconut amongst other flavors. Portion was good too. Ended it with pineapple angel cake roll with ice cream which was tasty too. All in all enjoyed the meal and will likely be back for the dinner menu. They have valet which is $14 and street parking around the area too.

Brittany Stolzenberg

We were excited to try Blackbird after hearing such great things about it. We received a gift certificate and made a reservation for a Sunday at 6 PM. We sat outside which was really nice. There were maybe 5 tables inside and another couple sitting outside. The drinks we ordered were really good. We ordered two appetizers. They were both pretty good and the presentation was great. The chef also sent out another small bite was was amazing. We both ordered the striploin for our entree. These did not come out for at least 45 minutes after our appetizers were cleared. I would have been nice for the staff to space the two appetizers if they new it would be 45+ minutes before our meals came out. They came out and were cold. I do not believe it was supposed to be cold, but we weren't asked how our meal was so we couldn't send it back to be re-made at the correct temperature. I didn't finish mine as it was less then appetizing especially after waiting so long for it. We ordered a small order of cheese for dessert that was pretty good. The worst part of our experience was we paid with a gift certificate. We read the fine print and it did not say the certificate could not be used towards the tip, as most restaurants allow you to. We added cash to make the tip 20% and handed it to our waitress. We clarified that the certificate would go towards the tip and she went inside to double check. Well they decided they wouldn't allow it and gave us a $26 gift card with the balance. This left a very bad taste in our mouth. It was the fact that they would go out of their way to inconvenience us is very upsetting for an establishment like this. Overall the food was fine, but the last of customer service at the end of our meal was very frustrating.

Yoon Soo Park

Excellent service and food. We came here for a birthday dinner and left fully satisfied. Duck was delicious. The cheese plate is a must. Highly recommend.

Linda Choi

The food was too salty for me

Tiffany Moy

I have been here for Chicago restaurant week and for a work function and was blown away both times. I’ve wanted to try Blackbird for a while as it has a Michelin Star, and it definitely deserves it. The quality and presentation of the food was very good. As it was restaurant week and we went for lunch time, it was very affordable. I don’t know how much it would have been during prime dinner time. Even for my work event, my colleagues said it was the best work dinner they have ever had.

Avinash Venkatagiri

We went for the fixe prix lunch menu. The food tasted great, the quantity and quality was perfect and really good value for money. The staff were courteous and wonderful. Good for fancy business lunches and special occasions.

Michael Parrott

My favorites were the tomatoes and also the lobster. The pop rocks dessert was also amazing. Wine pairing + fixed price added up quickly but was amazing and a very special experience

Sherif Hassabo

Absolutely incredible restaurant. I went for their 20th anniversary on my birthday and it's as good as everyone said. I'd describe the food, but I'll photos do the talking.

Samuel Waggoner

This is definitely one of the better restaurants of the city. I wasn’t a fan of the very closely seated tables, but the food, wine, and service were excellent. The duck and lamb are a must.

Laura Costantino

Amazing! And chef Ryan is just incredible. What an experience.

Denise Newman

Good site for American food. I often meet people here to talk. The bill was fair.

Jesu Spectre

The wine pairings at Blackbird for lunch are breathtaking in their ingenuity and symbiosis. I notice that most people who give negative reviews for Blackbird appear to be mentally imbalanced. Look carefully at their reviews, below. One man was incensed that a drink tasted different than he had imagined. He also claimed that it took 25 minutes for a drink to arrive at his table-- that's simply not possible. One woman was trying to pay for her meal with a gift card which doesn't cover tip-- she's fit to be tied. Why do people who are on the fringe feel like they are at liberty to share their negative opinion, and then reveal damning details which reveal their wholly skewed vision of the world? I hope that the Blackbird staff stays strong despite the loonies.

Devin Parsons

Strong professional service and well thought out food.

Isaac Morrison

Nice spot for delicious American food. It was so appetizing. Staff treated us so kindly. Bring your hunger - portions are large. Kinda of like a place in Houston that I enjoyed.

Steve Sutherland

Food portions are appropriate for the price and the richness of flavor. The Ingredients are high quality and the Presentation and Service are excellent. The atmosphere is sleek and modern. Intimate, but inviting, as well as offering the option to bar seating. Food was so good! Original and great flavors. Our new favorite! Highly recommend.

Behymer Fadorsen

An incredible meal. Portions are small, but the flavors are big. Worth every penny.

Mitchell Petersen

Food was excellent. Wonderful combination of flavors, yet not excessively elaborate. The service was impecible. Very attentive yet relaxed. A truely pleasant evening.

Eric Bomze

Nice room and sort of good, at least professional service. We did the tasting menu and I got the wine pairing. $400 later we sort of wished we’d done something else with the money. I even asked if the pours on the wine pairing were generous and was told yes but they were actually pretty stingy. Beef course was way over-salted, as were a couple of others. Some of these summer dishes had nice bright flavors and tasted very fresh. Long gaps between some courses, with a 10 course menu you had better get that worked out.

Kaylie Plauche

Bill Lynn

The Michelin quality blooms when you ask for the cheese course at lunch. A knock-down drag-out cheese course that just freaking flattens you. Twelve cheese descriptions from the waiter that rival Gore Vidal. We freaking wept.

David Ortiz

Very good food . Service is good . Definitely strong one Michelin Star dining .

Moran Birman

Disappointing, not what I expect from a Michelin star restaurant or any restaurant in that price range. Most dishes were served cold. Duck and beef dishes were fine but not more. Amuse Bouche was fried corn fritter, tasted like something you can make at home. Bathroom not clean. Maybe just a week night but all 7 of our party were disappointed.

Thom McCloud

Absolutely amazing. Everything we ate was incredible, and the staff was top notch.

Sandra Lynsdale

Food was delicious and great service. The price fix menu was great value at $28 for three courses

joseph guerrero

A strikingly beautiful restaurant blanketed in white with artistically composed compelling foods. Service is a cut above. Everything was phenomenal, worthy of being enjoyed slowly. A very impressive dining experience.

Nathan M

Amazing restaurant, I always have to make a visit whenever I am in Chicago.

Having recently earned a Michelin star Blackbird is rapidly becoming a must visit culinary spot on the Chicago food scene. There is artistry in their preparation and presentation and staff is attentive and there to guide you through the menu. Highly recommend the truffled shrimp and lobster au pain which somehow manages to combine the best of both ingredients yet taste like something completely new. The ahi tuna and tartare are done well (I mean, not literally, after all well done tartare and tuna would be a crime) but nowhere near as inventive or interesting. On the entrees, the Rohan duck is a standout with a savoriness that is far more nuanced than the typical richness and fattiness of a typical duck. Usually duck is good but its richness can be overwhelming half way through, not here, each bite is flavorful and beckons for more. A most unusual and recommended duck. The strip loin was again prepared as well as a Michelin star restaurant would, but its definently the "safe" dish and I recommend exploring the menu for something more. Still cooked impeccably and each bite was sweet and savory and the pureed potatoes that accompanied provide a creaminess to balance. The drinks are all great as well, clearly they have a "mixologist" on staff....God I hate that word, does any word in the English language say douche more than the word mixologist, well maybe vape, or "brah", sigh, I digress, the mixologist here is clearly in command of the bitters and mixtures and drinks can be equally as interesting. I sampled one of the non-alcoholic drinks and recomend those if your looking for something refreshing. Overall Blackbird is a delight, and well worth your time. Portions are smaller but they bring by amuse bouches here and there so you always feel like your senses are being engaged. Decor and ambiance is modern with a Soho art gallery sort of feel, the space is small, better for couples or parties of 4, though we were able to fit a party of 7, and they were accommodating where other restaurants refused.

Delia Rico

Amazing food and service. Great culinary experience at a good good price

APMM73

Really liked it. Service was excellent. Although the restaurant can be crowded, overall it's not too loud. Food was very good. First time I have such level of cuisine (as expected for a michelin star restaurant) in the US. I highly recommend.

Actually, probably a 3.5. Would I spend my own money here? Probably not. Great service. A wonderful Sancerre ($18/glass x 2), gourmet potato salad app and the monk fish entree ($38) that was good but not great. Small portions...well presented. $100+ meal. A restaurant that makes no apologies for what it is. You just have to decide if that's what you want.

One of the best meals of my life. did the tasting menu.

Louis Khor

Pricey, but the food is good.

Walked by this restaurant in the afternoon around the area and did a quick browse on google map comments seems believable interesting to draw me in. Tried the 10 course summer menu and i would say its ok the dishes are not bad but tend to lean over to the saltier side of all flavours except the cabbage with mussels emulsion, one word, sour till i cringe my face. Someone was generous that evening with seasoning but i though you guys can do better with 1 star michelin.

Wonderfully complex tasting menu with excellent wine pairings, cannot recommend enough

Asia Kieffer

Small sizes and a non-set menu made this really enjoyable. The staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks came rather quickly. It’s. It very big, which was a very nice feel. They have this weird painting on the wall that gave me demonic vibes but that didn’t affect the food

Wendy Labuzan

I've been wanting to dine here for years. Seated promptly. The service was excellent and food even more so. Our party ordered the tasting menu. Disclaimer... I am not picky and there are few foods I don't like. Every plate was delicious and only one dish I probably wouldn't do again. It wasn't bad but just not my thing. Wine pairings were all very delicious.

steve cheng

Fantastic food and service.

Nancy Henley

Lunch Prix Fixe menu is the way to go. You get to sample a little of everything. Also, the food combinations are unconventional as is the menu However, the food pairings and fusions work well creating a culinary masterpiece in your mouth!

George Weirich

Great restaurant and good service.

Todd Barrera-Disler

The environment is extremely inviting and warm. The food is, of course incredible, more than earning the Michelin star it has. The service is efficient and brisk without being overbearing and interrupting conversation. Lovely.

Such a good experience! We did NYE here and had an amazing time. Great food and awesome service!

Mary Koes

I liked the atmosphere (except for the really weird women's restroom) and the service was amazing. The rest of the party loved the food but as a picky eater, I found their selection lacking. If you're a bit more adventurous (and like flowers in your food) you'll probably enjoy it.

Robinson Varghese

Amazing food, great service, should give a try for sure.

Everything was amazing, but the noise level was higher than I would have liked. Made it hard to have conversations at the table. In terms of the food, the Michelin Star is well earned.

Restaurant Week Pre Fixe lunch menu was scrumpdillyisiously delicious! Specialty cocktails, wine selection, coffee - superb! Nice atmospere and service.

Jeff T

The food is definitely executed with precision, in both flavour and aesthetics. I would recommend coming here if you enjoy a tasty meal.

Zachary Rich

Very great spot. Lunch was delicious and affordable for a Michelin star.

Carl from Chicago

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Go there for lunch and get the prix fix menu it is well portioned and always great. The prices are very reasonable considering the very high quality of the service and the food.

Justin M

Hands down the best service I've ever received, even during a packed lunch crowd.

Eva C

The restaurant is comfortable and artsy inside. The service was impeccable. The food was so interesting, beautifully displayed, and tasted so good. If I wanted to impress a date or coworker, I'd bring them here and act like its a normal night out.

Pierre Serex

The menu gives many excellent choices. We chose the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The combination of the plates were fantastic, each plate was delicious. Lots of good creativity on the combination of tastes. Just loved it. The quantity was perfect. The wines which were served paired with the food was an outstanding path leading to wealth of diversity of tastes and flavors.

Tara Collins

Fine place for American food. It's so delicious. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and plan to keep coming back. Prices are reasonable I would say.

Christian Wietholt

We went here for lunch and it was certainly a very unique experience. The menu reminded me of French cuisine and the meal was well prepared with lunch-appropriate portion sizes. What was remarkable was the extensive wine list with some really fine French wines from. Price wise it was a bit more than what I would usually pay for lunch, but the food quality justified the price. Definitely a place to impress your business partners with.

Dustin Zeiner

Just okay. Bloody Mary very average. Huevos like Taco Bell.

Chris Tso

Very good meal. From the tempura skatewing as the amuse bouche, to pork belly with smoked trout roe. Flavors played well together all night. Courses came out promptly as we didn't have to wait long. Service was top notch from the check in staff to the wait staff. Wonderful experience.

This review is for their restaurant week lunch offering. Tried the shrimp salad, the hanger steak and the chocolate pudding cake. This meal was an unbelievable value for the service and food options. I would definitely be coming back given how close it is to my work in the West Loop.

I dined at Blackbird upon decent feedback from my wife. "Good food & bad service but it's worth to try" she said. She sat at the bar and apparently was served by a rude and inattentive bartender. I dined there this evening at the bar and while my food was pretty decent (tuna appetizer + fish entree) I must say the service lacked severely. I was brought an incorrect dish, had to wait about 30 min for a cocktail AND was not asked how the meal was for ONCE. For a meal you spend over $100/person I would have hoped to have maybe a short conversation, small talk or general bartender conversation. While I understand staff can get busy half the tables were empty at the time I was there (9pm). Bottom line is Blackbird leaves you with a half decent meal, bad service and a large bill.

The first time my boyfriend and I ate at Blackbird we had an exceptional time, amazing service, food, and overall vibe; however, we regretted not ordering the tasting menus. We love tasting menus and went back about 6 months later to try Blackbird's tasting menu considering how many good reviews there were and how amazing it was the first time we went. We had the one of the last reservations in the evening. At our second time around at Blackbird, we did not recieve the same quality of service as we did the first time. The waitress was irratated at us for have ordering the tasting menus so "late" in the evening. The food seemed to be made sloppy as it felt like they were on a clock We felt rushed eating our $600 meal and also regretted coming back a second time. Blackbird: if you dont want to serve customers late in the evening, then don't make the reservations late in the evening.

Alejandro Fabila

A great place to celebrate any occasion, is even greater if you go to try the tasting menu

Brenda Gortowski

Spent $1,100 here and we went to chipotle after because we were all still hungry. It’s a great place but not for the amount of money you have to spend.

karma pema

Superb food service and wine pairing Though I got charged by my credit card wrong that I have to call them other than that the manager calls me back and had it fix. I wait for that charged to be fix.

Shirley Fleming

American food and the atmosphere at this location is super good. This place has a great design.

Helen Chang

Nice steak with great service!

Francisco Escobedo

Very good, compared to other michilen experiences, the service was not consistent throughout the night. The food was fantastic, and the service did get better after we ordered our main dishes...

Xiaotong Sun

The booking system is very convenient and user friendly. The service is great, the waitress who served us that day is very caring. However, the overall quality of the food is just a little bit disappointing comparing to its price. Even though the asparagus in the appetizer is a must try.

Evan Chien

The balance of the fusion is good and creative.

Raoul Kumar

Great food. Seating is much tighter than it used to be, feels like I'm eating at a cafeteria. For the price and quality of food I would expect a slightly more intimate setting.

Mary A

Loved the food and great service

Beck M

Our server, Peter, and the other servers were extremely attentive and answered all my questions regarding ingredients used and flavors I detected in the shared appetizers. My son hates mushrooms, but ate everything that came with his pork belly entrée. My daughter doesn't eat vegetables, but she devoured her rohan duck entrée in record time. My hubby who's been keeping to a keto / low carb regimen, was able to enjoy the pork belly and the endive salad starter, as-it-was, because he didn't want to miss out on the chef's original vision. My other daughter enjoyed the sable and the mini croquettes that accompanied them. We also shared the artisinal cheese board and finished the meal with the Blackbird Sundae, cinnamon toast ice cream and crème brûlée. It's a minimalist interior with an awesome music playlist that really engaged my kids, and has this abstract wall painting that reminds me of LOTR when the ring wraiths are washed away by Arwen's magical river tsunami. We were able to park right outside the restaurant, but there is valet available. The bill for 5 of us, with no alcohol, shared desserts and bottled mineral water came to ~$315 before tip. It was a welcome end to a 10 hour trip, so I highly recommend it.
