Do yourself a favor, and try the tempura fried lemon and squash. Sounds weird but it is one of the most adventurous and tasty dishes I've had in a while. Thanks to the Bad Hunter staff for making us feel welcomed.

Bri Bijman

Loved this place! Beautiful location and delicious food.

Mark Reisner

Chicken fried mushrooms were a little dry and needed more sauce or gravy. 50/50 burger was excellent.

Suraj Bansal

The food was amazing. Perhaps one of the best vegetarian restaurants that I have been to. Had ordered spinach flatbread and the vegetarian burger along with pomegranate ginger brew all of which blew our mind. The staff was amazing and very friendly. I would highly recommend this place.

This experience was “okay”. The restaurant is nice and it’s a nice atmosphere but the food is not good. The mushroom tacos al pastor were horrible. Not sure if they were just off this one time or that’s how they taste but don’t get them. Burrata is nice but the garlic chips ruin the entire dish (you’ll see what I mean when you order it) and the potatoes were severely undercooked. The steak is okay..ish. It comes on a bed of beans that do nothing. The bucatini was also a big miss..it has apples in it and that combination truly doesn’t work. He food they’re trying to do is way too ambitious. The waitress was lovely however I would maybe stick to having a drink here and nothing else.

Raed Mansour

Happy they’re back in business. Nice cocktails and good vegan options. Always a nice atmosphere and great service.

Yael JImenez

Food was amazing and unique, the environment was absolutely amazing, it's a vegetarian forward restaurant but they do offer meets. It's upscale with a modern twist and boping music. The chefs experiment different kinds of vegetables and make unique dishes that you can't get anywhere else. I wholeheartedly recommend this place, truly one of a kind

My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and had the best time. The decor was like a hip conservatory/greenhouse. It was easy to talk, had good acoustics. Our server was so welcoming, and kind, got us a free anniversary drink right away which was a lovely surprise. Dinner was amazing. Our favorites were scallop ceviche, and beets, and fry bread w/ burrata. We also had a tasty dessert and coffee. Overall 2 cocktails, the 4 entrees, and dessert for $100 was a great price. Before we left they also sweetly took a photo for us.

Tim Auch

Unique, mostly vegetarian, dishes. Nice ambience. (would be 5 stars, but it is too pricey.)

Wandered in for some drinks and a snack before a concert and it was amazing. We sat at the bar which was beautiful with a lot of counter space. The three bartenders behind the bar all helped us at various times and the drinks they made were sublime, watching them make drinks was a lot of fun and just straight up cool. I only had the gin cocktails that were great but the cocktail menu had something for everyone. I realized after the fact that this was a veggie forward restaurant and how clever the name was.

Mia Valdez Quellhorst

Tasty, tasty vegetable forward menu with attentive service

Chantericka Yaeger

Delicious food and unique offerings.

Yubing Ji

Food is good although not THAT much vegetable focused than I expected, at least not for brunch. If not for my specific experience, I would rate it 4 stars. Things to improve: - they charge $1 for a tiny bit of hot sauce that’s not even spicy. They could have explained that to us before charging - I ordered black tea which is ok quality for $5 and then I ordered another matcha tea but it came in literally half the amount for $7 and it’s not great quality - the waitresses are not very attentive and others are not helping much to signal to her. We had to wait quite a lot. The decoration is open warehouse/industrial style and filled with green plants which is pleasant.

Not bad, but not amazing. From the restaurant reviews and guides for vegetarian foods I was really expecting a fresh and special take on vegetarian, but I found everything to be very heavy with little nuanced flavor. The cider was exceptional, though, and the service was good, I just wish there had been more memorable dishes that didn't leave me feeling overly full.

Good food & good service • my pasta was great

Marvin Vuong

Everything we got was good at this place. Their fries are really well done, the chicken thigh is super good, and the fish dishes are tasty. Expect to order a lot but it's almost all good.

Maria Julia Ioshiura

We were going to a famous restaurant nearby that had a 2-hour waiting list and ended up here without knowing anything about the place or any recommendations. Turned out to be one of the best meals we’ve had in Chicago and also the best we’ve had in a long time!! I am so happy that we discovered this place! The food is great, the ambient is cool, the dishes are beautiful and the staff is lovely. I would recommend to order 2-3 dishes per person since they are more like tapas. And make room for dessert, you won’t regret it! If I lived in Chicago, Bad Hunter would definitely be one of my favorite places.

Christine Anderson

Fantastic food, great service.

Alexandria Kalika

It was a great place to go get food that's not just all meat. Their butter dumplings and a mushroom dish were amazing. So much flavor, mushrooms were smokey, dumplings were both succulent and crispy. Cocktails were good. I loved the decor in the place. So 5 dishes per 2 people is a great amount food. Also forgot, tempura - they put lemon in tempura batter. You need that in your life!

Ashley Kincaid

Amazing food and drinks! (My only recommendations is to not order the steak. It was a little chewy.)

Pratik B

Bad Hunter prides itself on being vegetarian friendly; however their menu options do not reflect so. They makeshift their vegetarian options by removing meat and substituting it with items like avocado. They don't even have tofu for vegetarian protein. I give them credit for trying and making their limited options taste pretty good.

TY cherry

Phenomenal! The environment is as eclectic as the menu. Outgoing, friendly, and skilled staff, delicious and unique foods with a global twist. A melange of flavors, and a drink menu based on depth and character, not an alcoholic fix. Definitely 5 stars

Joey Arora

The best drink I have ever had, the LA Brunch was an absolute delight. The vegetarian food was so good I'm coming back tomorrow!!!

Marc-Antoine Denechaud

Excellent food and impeccable service. Vegetarian friendly. Fantastic value for money. Each dish brought a blast of flavor, was unique and made us want to eat the next dish until we were so full. Wine selection was very superior. Being from nyc this place exceeded my expectations on all aspects.

Victoria Gillet

So, so delicious. Do yourself a favor and get the tempura lemons, which are my favorite ever tempura. The veggie burger is always great. The beet dip was okay. The Golden rice bowl is

Christopher Rigling

We found this restaurant to be over reaching and under delivering. Very complex menu items full of unknown ingredients and/or counterintuitive combinations. While a few times out pleasantly surprised, mostly it missed.

taylor edwards

An amazing addition to the area. Great cocktails, food (especially the brunch pastries), staff, decor, and one of the best wine selections in the city. Sit at the bar when the weather’s warm and the entire front of the restaurant is open, drink some booze, eat some food, and you can’t have a bad time. Heavy vegetable focus, but you can still get plenty of delicious meat options. Great veggie burger and pasta too!

Shauntee Hibbler

The food and service was exceptional!!

Lakieta Edwards

Had lunch with a friend a few months back. Nice options for a vegan & a carnivore having a meal together

Joya P

I’m so happy to have given this place a try! The space is clean and airy with a great playlist. Best of all the food was flavorful and service was prompt. During my lunch I was mentally planning my next trip back. Totally worth driving in circles 10 times to find parking. I had the golden rice bowl with fries.

Ariadna

The place is gorgeous!! The decoration is great, very hip trendy atmosphere. The servers and general staff super cool, great actitud every one!! Really good place for a date. The food they have a hole menu for vegetarians, and they try to do very authentic author cuisine!! I like what I ate, i like that they try to do every plate very authentic, still is no the best healthy food ever but don’t get my wrong is very very tasty

Ann Silberstein

Best meal I've had in a while! We had dinner on a Sunday evening around 6pm and were lucky enough to get a table outside on the patio. Service was outstanding and drinks delicious. We enjoyed the sourdough, carrots, mezze pasta, lamb skewer, salad, and butter dumplings. Everything was incredible. If I had to skip one, I'd probably skip the lamb skewer. We were basically licking the bowls of everything else. Highly highly recommend and so glad they're open again!

Carly Ilg

I had an amazing time at Bad Hunter to celebrate getting a new job. Didn't have to think twice about what I was ordering because they have vegetarian menus! My partner and I shared a handful of plates, all of which were delicious. I'd never had any sort of ceviche before, so that was a really cool experience. The biggest standouts to me were the best potato fried bread with burrata and cherry chutney as well as the squash dish. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu and I'll definitely be back.

Jenn Farrell

Really loved this concept of veggie forward! Very well done dishes and drinks

Sunil Patel

They have a regular menu, a vegetarian menu, a vegan menu and a gluten free menu!! Plus the regular drinks menu and dessert menu. That said our server knew about every dish on them and each dish was fresh, seasonal and extremely tasty. A great place to experience a range of flavours and textures across many tapas style dishes in an informal style restaurant. Another excellent veg forward restaurant worth going to each season with friends.

Amanda Stewart

Loved this place. There were 4 of us so we split 8 dishes. Food was amazing and our server Jared was a real gem! You definitely need a reservation for a Saturday night so plan ahead!

Ana Rosa Amante

Dinner at Bad Hunter was fun! Our waiter was sweet. I loved the fact that they customized vegan and vegetarian menus for their customers. The reason why I'm giving a 4 stars was because of the waiting time for my main dish to come out, even though it was worth the wait, the wait was approximately 45min for the roasted cauliflower to come out. I also ordered the pickled veggies, and I didnt eat them, as the combination with the butter wasnt what I expected. Our waiter understood and she quickly removed the dish. Overall the experience was pleasant.

Monika A

Amazing selection of cocktails and vegetarian options for food! Wish i had taken the photos of the food but it looked and tasted soo good I forgot!

Debbie cruz

Excellent vegetarian/vegan food. They have options for carnivores too. Friendly service. Fun drinks. The togarashi carrots were so good. Toasted sourdough was legit as well...I think it had sunflower hummus. Delicious!

James W

Chap on table next to us said it was the best corn he’s ever eaten. Somewhat surprised as our corn was just plain awful. Overall the food just wasn’t good. Way to salty. So much so we drank gallons of water to wash it all down. Still had a salty mouth the next day. Clearly lots of people love this place. Given we had 2 online confirmations, a phone call and 3 texts to ensure our table was reserved properly I’m very much on my own in what I felt the food was like. I’ll vote with my feet and won’t be back. Sorry. Just not for me.

Erick Diaz

Good was amazing. Love the decor. Very simple and classy. Great options between vegetarian and items with meat. The dumplings were amazing! Great place to Share plates

K.M. Fletcher

Great service. Pretty good food with vegetarian options. Healthy and slightly pricy but healthy food cost money. Small portions of everything so you spend more money than expected but everything was good.

Catie Brown

Hands-down the best vegan meal I’ve ever had. Went with my parents and shared 3 apps, a pasta dish, and 3 desserts. The flavors were exquisite and inventive, the ingredients fresh. Their wine list included some really interesting finds, with a great by-the-glass selection. Truly a perfect dining experience.

Irvin A

Exciting newish resto. Beautiful interior decor, and intimate outdoor space. The food I quite good. Coconut ceviche! The cocktails were also quite delectable.

Alexander Beck

All around great. Don't be worried if you're not a vegetarian or vegan, they have plenty of meat forward options. For Sunday brunch on Restaurant Row, this place was surprising less packed than would would imagine (which was a welcomed surprise). The sever was excellent and attentive, the food was swell, and the over-all ambiance was pleasant. I wasn't a huge fan of the "good hunter bloody", but that just comes down to personal taste.

Cory Duggin

Great vegetable forward restaurant. Brunch was awesome.

Alexandra Goldina

The food here is absolutely incredible. I've been here twice and the menu changes but they have some specialities. The veggie burger is great and the mixed salad greens are incredible. However the chicken hen if the woods mushrooms I was not the biggest fan of as the mushrooms were overrated by the breading. I highly recommend Bad Hunter - it's a joy to be in with great food, drinks, and plants!

Matthew C. Cataldi

Fantastic food. A bit on the pricey side for the amount, but there is no question as to the quality. Mixed drinks were expertly done and yhe atmosphere was simply marvelous. Will be back for more.

Djuana Stoakley

Fantastic veggie-forward menu. Really good atmosphere.

Ektaa Bhatia

Such an interesting menu and everything is so flavorful. The dishes are small, especially for the price, but it's worth it to try at least once. Favorite thing was by far the butter dumplings. The sourdough was also really good. Foccacia was meh. I was disappointed with the dessert options and the cookie ice cream sandwiches were only ok. Good service and cute place.

Meg Lidrbauch

Amazing dinner! My friend got the Spicy Carrot Cooler - don't be thrown off by the name, more like spiced than spicy - and I had the Why So Serious? - refreshing yet smoky. For food we had the Brussels sprouts (to die for, though they could have been crispier), the asparagus (out of this world!), the fry bread (incredible!), and the butter dumplings (sooo tasty!), and then for dessert shared the pavlova - super light and refreshing. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town! Even omnivores will love it here.

Clay Blohm

Friendly, fun, fantastic food! Definitely made my list of favorites.

Andrew Wong

The flavors worked well together, but it is alittle pricy for what you get. Setting is nice for a date or hang out. Make reservations. Name is Clever. Bad hunters make good veges dishes :p Happy hunting.

Caitlin Sherman

I'm not a vegetarian, however I was with some people who are. They really wanted to go here. I was pleasantly surprised. We got the majority of items on the menu. I would say the meat free items were by far the best. Service was ok.

Corey Waldron

The food is so amazing, wish it would reopen

Linda Obeid

Amazing. Amazing amazing. Cant say enough. The vegetables are treated perfectly with respect and all the flavors are spot on. You must try the fry bread. We had 6 other dishes all supurp. Also try the desserts. Always different. Thanks for a perfect filling and satisfying meal.

Michael Stevens

Joined party of four... Left to stand for 10 mins, then told to not move a chair to sit down as breached code.. The staff then left me standing without asking or offering a solution...the restaurant was half full. Had to leave... All fairly awkward and not particularly pragmatic given I joined to pay the bill.

Sylvia Panek

Clean, distinct, and delicious flavors. Never thought I'd find myself saving notes to look up recipes for "charred leek broth". Amazing. I can't wait till come back.

Shailesh Pateriya

Beautiful ambience and huge variety of alcohol. Bartender is good person and is very helpful in deciding what to drink. Topo American drink is very tasty. Haven't tried the food so can't comment. Crowded in the evenings.

Amy Morman

Indoor summer greenhouse feel all year long! Most recently went for cocktails by my lonesome. The menu is really interesting, so make sure you leave time for two cocktails (at least). I tried the jibaritos. Such a cute presentation.

Julie Cieszynski

The whole staff is friendly and caring from the waitresses all the way to the dishwasher ...and the food is AMAZING.... It's a must go to place in my opinion

Tessa Lathrop

I love Bad Hunter. Its been one of my go-to in West Loop since it opened and I am so happy its back. Its the perfect compromise between my Vegan girlfriend and my Carnivore diet. The Sunflower Crema is so good, and the (new?) Crispy Togarashi Carrots with coconut has a great crunchy texture with a savory sweetness. However - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the steak skewers. These were a staple for me - and I know the restaurant is trying out new items on their menu but these were so good. I honestly ordered two every time I went. I attached a screenshot from your website that features them as a sort of eulogy photo. In all seriousness - please, at least have them be a special and I'll run back.

Miki Deen

Had a nice brunch! Nice decor and very friendly staff. The Dutch baby pancake was an adequate size, and very tasty; the granola was good but not enough. My friend enjoyed the burger but didn’t care for the fries. In a neighborhood filled with young families, I was disappointed with the lack of a changing table in the bathroom.

Seti Hamalian

A tasty, well prepared and presented meal. Farm fresh ingredients show up in most of their dishes. Ee had a few of their brunch offerings. Harmony of tastes. Enjoy.

Priyanka Rajwar

Lovely restaurant and bar to spend time at. Went on a Friday evening and it was really busy. Better to reserve and go. They have mostly indoor and a limited outdoor seating. Great ambience. Loved the eco theme throughout. Even the bathrooms have preserved botanical (plant) samples on the wall. Looks kinda cool. The bar is nice. I had a Whisky sour that was good. Tried a few dishes from the menu. The food is slightly average actually. But I guess vegetarians and vegans will love it. I loved the desert though. Ask the servers for reccos. They were really good at that. The service was overall very good. Recommend going here if u are a vegetarian / vegan but if you are a non veg and would like to try something new this place ain't bad.

Ruchir Patel

Very good menu with a vegetarian focus. Plenty of great meat options also available.

Samantha Meader

Absolutely wonderful food, friendly staff, and fantastic drinks. Definitely try the spicy carrot drink- it's one of the best I've had in a long time.

Eric Lubow

Absolutely some of the most knowledge bartenders I have ever come across. Worth it just to talk to people passionate about their liquor. Great kombucha too.

Tristan L

Creative and interesting. Excellent wine list for something out of the ordinary.

Elizabeth Bennetts

Bad hunter was good. But for a mostly vegetarian restaurant, it didn’t wow me like other vegetarian restaurants have. I also thought it was overpriced.

Jake Wilson

Excellent restaurant in a great part of the city. Great food and cocktails. If you're looking for a great shared plates restaurant to eat at that has a heavy vegetarian menu, this is your place.

W Liu

Very creative, fresh, well-made dishes. We had the fried green tomatoes (caper whipped cream is excellent) and grilled sourdough to start. The lobster mushroom agnolotti was phenomenal in the flavor it delivered. Will gladly return for more.

Tammy Owins

Butter Dumplings, and they are recreated seasonally a must! Mixologists are ‘chef’s’ in their own right. Love to sit at the bar & learn from staff.

Sarah Odeh

I was very impressed by the quality of food here. We went for lunch and everything we had was delicious, so much so I didn’t miss the meat. The salad with chick peas was seasoned well and the heirloom tomatoes with burrata was light and flavorful. I’d definitely order both again. The staff was nice and the restaurant clean but the music was quite loud which made the business lunch challenging at times.

Nicole Muha

They have the best veggie burger for a reason. Must go. So cute. So fresh. So fun.

Ronald R. Ottesen

I set the graphics in happy Wheels to ultra and now I’m enjoying the best elements of the games on happywheelsunblockedd.

Janice Belen

Probably the best cocktails I've ever had.....mermaid water and carrot cocktail is a must. So balanced!

Ted Pavlic

Fantastic food and service. Amazing tastes from a menu that is nearly entirely (but not completely) vegetarian. Unique flavors and preparations with very attractive presentations. Plenty of cocktails, wine, and spirit options too. We loved the dumplings, which had an unexpected look but a great taste. The mushrooms were also quite nice. We didn't try the heirloom tomato salad, but it looked fantastic.

Dave Odd

I may be a bit biased, but this place is amazing. Every dish was on point and even my vegan/gluten free friends were easily catered to and enjoyed everything.

Deanna Laidler

We were craving a veggie burger and our search led us to Bad Hunter - and truly the best veggie burger and fries either of us ever had. The burger was so flavorful and satisfying with a slightly charred exterior on a soft brioches bun. The fries were crispy and perfectly salted. We ended with an exquisitely tart lemon chamomile sorbet. The service was equally wonderful- helpful, friendly, attentive.

Alex Bishop

Lunch at Bad Hunter was terrific. I loved the room which was very bright and airy. The outdoor patio was rocking and the whole place had a nice laid back vibe to it. Plenty of folks were taking advantage of that and having wine at lunch - always the mark of a quality lunch experience. The food is very tasty but you do need to order a bit strategically. Some of the dishes were very light, while others were veggie version of typical Chicago gut buster sized dishes. The sandwiches are hefty, but very delicious. The grilled beet sandwich, which is genius, was delicious. I must try grilling beets at home, the sweetness played off well with the chewy yumminess of the grill. My butter leaf salad with Chicken skewers was also fantastic. The chicken was exactly the right degree of exterior grill crust and interior tender juiciness. Awesome. The salad was light and flavorful - the grapefruit was a terrific touch. Definitely on my list of west loop lunch destinations.

Emily Kapostas

Bad Hunter was delicious!! The separate vegan menu was excellent and the staff was very kind. They have separate menus for all kinds of dietary restrictions. We had the Spetzle, mushrooms, and fried okra. I can't even say what my favorite was. It was all delicious and we devoured each dish as it came out. They say they are tapas style plates but the plates are priced almost as much as individual servings so I would say that if you come expect to have a decent sized bill at the end of the meal. We had cocktails too which were delicious! I had the carrot and pineapple and the sangria. Both were flavorful. All said it was a perfect birthday dinner for a couple of vegans looking to go out to a nice restaurant to celebrate : ) it is a fairly crowded restaurant so I recommend making reservations!

Ray Forgianni

We were disappointed. Simply was not what was expected. Clearly the staff worked hard but we found the food uninspiring, sometimes flat or odd in flavoring. This is a locally sourced restaurant to their credit using some fermented products. Healthy & tasty to the right clients. No way to tell from the outside or the menu. On street parking is at a premium.

Nikhil

Very good place. Staff are really polite and helpful. I straight away ordered an entree and I had the best burger ever. They have a large vegetarian menu but they do serve meat options as well.

Nicolas Buthay

Tasty food. Dishes are really small and expensive. I would understand the prices of the items if plates were really extraordinary, but they are not. They are good, some are somehow unique / innovative, but nothing was amazingly good. Service was courteous, but we were left unattended more than once (no water refills, long time to take dessert orders, etc). I am not dissatisfied with the overall experience, but I am not thrilled either. Some things we ordered were pretty good, but there is something not right with the quality/price/size equation. 4 stars might be too generous, 3 stars is not accurate either. 3.5 would be fair, but I can't give 3.5

Kevin Denson

I have eaten at Bad Hunter twice now, once before the renovation and once after. The bartenders are extremely skilled, personable, and knowledgeable of their craft and provided a next-level dining experience for my friends and myself both times we have gone. I encourage anyone that loves delicious cocktails, esoteric and enlivening wine, and innovative, satisfying cuisine, to dine and drink at Bad Hunter--you won't regret it.

Amy Bucks

The food was delicious. The staff was super friendly and very intelligent and articulate if you had questions bout the menu (which I definitely did). And their drinks were top notch. Would LOVE to go back as soon as I could.

Don Huml

Food was delicious, some dishes were very spicy, but I had a great time. They were very accommodating for one in our party of 5 who had a nut allergy. Very well run. Even the bathrooms were very interesting. A lot of thought was obvious in the details of everything.

Siobahn Hruby

Wow. Went with a large group and had the waiter choose our plates to share. Everything was fabulous. The cocktails were perfection. Unbeatable ambiance.

Josh Funk

Excellent service combined with excellent flavors made for quite the awesome experience. I can't wait to go back again!

Shane Williams

Amazing vegetarian food and inventive cocktails

Jennica Gray

AMAZING STAFF! Such a great experience here. Great atmosphere, delicious food and cocktails.

Patrick Dixon

Phenomenal food - meat was on the menu but didn't have any. Very gregarious server. Very reasonable prices. Appreciated that the decor isn't the dark/unfinished wood thing that every third restaurant is doing right now. Cocktails went for subtle flavor profiles - maybe too subtle for my tobacco desensitized taste buds but definitely well made.

Nathan Rivera-Melo

Very cool and thoughtful dishes. Veg forward and creative. I'd for sure recommend going.

Purva Joshi

Amazing vegan/vegetarian options

Lexie Judd

Had an amazing meal here. The atmosphere and food are both incredible. Come with a big group so that you can try out as many menu items as possible! Best dish is the fry bread.

Julian Burk

My girlfriend is vegan and this was the perfect place to treat her to a nice date. Next level food!

Sean Murphy

Good mix of vegi and meat based foods in a cute restaurant

Tom Anders

This place is amazing. The decor makes you feel like you are in some kind of deconstructed greenhouse. The cocktails are fantastic and varied. And the food? Simply incredible.

Kristin Kirkbride

5 of us went to this place on a great recommendation and it didn't disappoint! Bad Hunter (named for a vegetarian focused and forward restaurant) was simply divine! Let go of your previous preconceived notions of a vegetarian restaurant. The food is meant to be shared and among us we tried over a dozen dishes! Nearly everything is sourced from the Farmer's market and features the freshest ingredients and the most creative recipes. Many of the dishes featured asparagus, radishes and spring peas and tendrils. We also ordered an amazing chicken thigh skewer with red currants and spiced yogurt. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and respectful. As if we were not already satisfied, the table couldn't decide on a dessert as all looked equally delicious so we had all 5 of them. AMAZING ! I can see why this restaurant is featured in the N.Y. Times and ranks consistently in Chicago's top ten!

Ashley James

As an omnivore, I appreciate that most restaurants are geared towards me, and vegetarian dishes are an afterthought. This restaurant was geared towards vegetarians, and meat was a definite afterthought. I was there with a vegan and there were also limited options for her. I almost gave only three stars, but their drinks were great, and their flavors were complex, and their sorbet was phenomenal.

Julie Swenson

I always love having a meal at Bad Hunter. The food is always interesting and multifaceted, the flavors and textures carefully selected and layered to make an appealing dish. Everything tastes like comfort food, but especially flavorful comfort food that is actually conveniently healthy. The menu changes seasonally but heavily features plant-based options all year round, with meat dishes for carnivores, omnivorous fare to share, a vegetarian menu and a vegan menu. Servers are also aware of how to modify dishes so they're vegan and vegetarian. The drink menu is also extensive and pretty much everything is delicious. On my most recent visit, my husband and I got the Young Coconut Ceviche and the Grilled Sourdough with Sunflower Crema as appetizers. The Grilled Sourdough is available all year because it's delicious, savory, smoky and satisying. It can easily accompany any and every possible dish. The ceviche was refreshing and interesting; the coconut 'leche de tigre' was citrusy and a little spicy. Nori lent the appetizer a hint of the sea. The pickled blueberries were unexpectedly awesome, and the crispy plantains made excellent chips. I highly recommend the Strawberry Pineapple Fizz as a refreshing, replenishing fruity drink. It was a great palate cleanser throughout my meal. I ordered two because it was just so good, but I probably could've consumed an entire pitcher of this nonalcoholic elixir. I ordered the vegan Masa Spaetzle as my entree, while my husband got the Sirloin Skewer, and we shared another order of the Grilled Sourdough. (It's that good. And we were really hungry.) The skewer is always a tasty hit with my husband. The spaetzle was good, with fewer bold flavors. This dish had a lot of interesting textures at play; chewy fried spaetzle, almost like little free-form gnocchi noodles, crispy beans (I think they were pinto beans) with a slight crunch, thinly shaved tomatillo for a spicy green punch, and a lovely mole sauce somewhat reminiscent of a thick rosa sauce that tasted creamy without any actual cream. It's safe to say that my husband I inhaled all our food, then got dessert. For dessert, I had a cherry limeade popsicle, and my husband had a scoop of cashew rocky road ice cream. Both were awesome. Husband is a big cashew fan and loves chocolate almost as much, so the ice cream thoroughly satisfied his sweet tooth. If you have a chance to go to Bad Hunter, do it. Go at least twice a year to see the changes in the menu. I was sad that the saucy Carrot Noodles weren't included on this version of the menu, but I'm hoping they'll come back in the spring or summer.

Diana Méndez

Good selection of plates to share with more vegetarian options than not. The service can be a little bit slow but the staff is friendly and actively checking is everything is ok. It’s a little bit on the pricey side but is worth it.

Garrick Ogburn

I can not say enough about our server Sunday evening. Welcoming and helpful to new guests about the amazing menu. Butter dumplings! Rosted Oyster mushrooms, and Tempura fried lemons with Delicata Squash. Crazy for any place that has Spanish Cider on the menu, too!

Ritz Ritz

The food is amazing. Everyone from the servers to the busboys were super nice and knowledgeable. I had the best time!

Lynn Cawley

ALWAYS fantastic... Fresh... delicious.. innovative... friendly

MiltG misphitsmusic

First time vegan experience. Bad Hunter was a good introduction to the lifestyle.

jayashree m y

Quite innovative, in creating tasty dishes. I loved all!

herb berwald

Not a pleasant experience. Too rushed, average to poor food. Slow service.

Jake Hanegan

Delicious, complex, and exciting vegetarian food. Can’t wait to come back!

David Rosazza

Great name for a veggie forward place

Andrew Elegante

Great variety of creative, tapas-style food including a vegan menu (which is why we went). Most food items were very good to excellent. Decor is warm and inviting with interesting ways of repurposing items. Don't drink so can't comment on those but a great many other people were drinking which leads me to believe they are good.

Andy Suarez

Amazing dishes and drinks. Would highly recommend this anytime.

Sachin Shah

Great for drinks. The food tastes good but won't fill you up. We had to go elsewhere for dinner afterwards. Luckily, that area is full of good restaurants.

Imad Rahman

The carrot drink is amazing, don't doubt it just get it. Mermaid water is also amazing. If you want to treat yourself to the best 4 bites of food that you'll have for days, maybe even weeks or months then get the Yellowtail. Trust me. Bartenders treated us like family.

Chen Jan

Delicious and creative dishes. The portion is small. The good thing is you can try more different dishes.

Tamar Bobys

Excellent service. Incredible food. Each dish was uniquely beautiful and delicious. The richness of flavor, the smokey pistachios and curry and greens. Absolutely recommend it to all omnivores. Discover a meal with where the meat isn't the matter (from a meat eater).

Shane Lemke

Expensive with an unimpressive, limited menu. There were separate menus for vegetarians and vegans. I can't speak for the vegan menu, but the vegetarian menu was basically all appetizers. Don't go here expecting a meal, it's more of a socializing/drinking establishment.

The food was incredible. We ate from the vegan menu. My favorite was the carrots with the aoli. For dessert, we had the corn ice cream (made from oat milk) with raspberry. I love how they play with flavor combinations. The ambiance was relaxed and I'm big on lighting and how it affects the mood of the space--it was perfect! Staff were friendly and helpful with menu recommendations. Definitely make a stop at this restaurant. Your senses will be delighted!

Bad Hunter is one of my Chicago favorites. The vibe, drinks and overall atmosphere is world class. Everything from the menu, to the drinks, to the decorations, to the lighting, to the bar top - it’s all there. World class branding. It’s important to note that the prices are a little expensive. They make it a tough place visit on a regular basis. However, it’s such a cool bar that you have to stop in at least once if you’re in the area.

The menu is ridiculously delicious and creative. Get the tempura lemons, the mushroom soup, and like 5 different cocktails.

Peter M

Exciting menu & delightful vegan desserts that are among the best in the City!

Will Zern

Food and drinks were amazing! Definitely coming here again!

Nikunj Chokshi

Fantastic food, creative and unctuous.

Hugh Allspaugh

Very trendy and stylish and most of the people there were there to be seen. I was expecting a lot more from this so called vegetarian restaurant but with the very expensive sharing plates and much of it fried in some form or another, I was sadly disappointed. The wine list is dreadfully expensive and while the atmosphere is wonderful and the servers were very nice, I won’t be back.

Sunflower butter ice cream sandwich and Roasted corn ice cream with black raspberry ripple. Both desserts are incredibly delicious, and the kind of experience where the flavors come in phases! With the roasted corn ice cream, first feel the corn, few seconds later feel the raspberry, and then a mix of both. Amazing! Plus, excellent service.

Juliana Gassmann

Everything was incredible. Absolutely loved that they ask if you would like a vegan, vegetarian or meat menu upon entry.

Christina Aguilar

La comida es delicious. The people in there very gentle. Nice. Super caring

This place quickly became one of my favorites. I've been here twice for dinner in the past 3 weeks and both meals were outstanding. The vegan menu is great and they appear to be very conscious of dietary restrictions, but still serve high quality food and a high quality dining experience. Service was delightful. The dining room is airy and open but still intimate. Definitely go here if you have the opportunity. Plan ahead and make a reservation.

Overall: You don't have to be a vegetarian to love the greatness served at Bad Hunter. The good: With a well-balanced menu featuring everything from small plates, featured breads, veggies, pastas, proteins, and desserts, you get a little bit of everything. The fact that veggies are the main focus in every dish is intriguing in itself and is pulled off fantastically. Out of all the dishes we got, the standout items for me were the butter dumplings and the coconut ash maltagliati. The butter dumplings had a crisp bottom yet soft fold and had a nice kick to them, while the pasta's (handmade) curry was creamy yet spicy and the pasta was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was plant-centric as well, but nothing to write to the hills about. The not-so-good: The major drawback is the price. While everything was delicious and the ambiance was great, $50 per person without drinks is a little much in my mind. Additionally, the shrimp was very disappointing. It sounded great on paper, but in the end it didn't really "wow" me. All of that said, it's still a fantastic experience. Atmosphere: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Food: 8/10

This place was great. Try the dumplings. Also they give free birthday ice cream.

The food was very tasty but the portions were dinky and pricey. Everything was appetizer size, this is Chicago, there should be leftovers. My 15 year old son devoured two steak skewers and didn't even attempt to eat any of the other food we ordered. Unless you have pretentious kids, make this a date night destination and leave the kids at home. The whole West Loop dining experience has been disappointing twice now, I'm going to avoid that area. Oh, and most of the diners had thick framed glasses and looked like they smelled bad.

Great dishes, very tasteful, different...

They were very busy when we arrived so we were relieved that we'd made a reservation. Unfortunately, it was still a 40 minute wait for a table. If I'd been the manager, I might have offered a small complimentary appetizer or bar snack to make the wait less noticeable. The food was inventive and interesting. For a "veg focused" place, it was a bit surprising that their separate vegan menu was simply a list of the things on the main menu that could be adapted to be vegan. Not sure that I'll return to this one, but the food is definitely worth checking out at least once!

Great brunch -- mostly vegetarian, however be careful if you are vegetarian because they cook some things in bacon fat. Very light inside, decorated well and in a good location in the west loop.

Laura Rooklin

Loved the brunch options! Very original with great taste. Had a hard time deciding as I wanted everything on the menu. The pastery we choose a strawberry rhubarb poptart was incredible. Great friendly & helpful service too!

Josh Conley

Great cocktails, lovely staff, and played the Raffy Christmas album for me upon request. Top Notch!

Brett O'Brien

Great food, albeit a little small in portion size. Plan to order a few dishes, but you surely won't be disappointed.

Mallory Bartolic

Excellent menu, everything was delicious and the service was great. Will go again ;)

It used to be that good restaurants stayed good by having a solid menu great food that did not change and great service. More and more lately we are seeing a trend of good restaurants going bad due to bad service or bad food. Sadly Bad Hunter has fallen into the trap. While the service is still top notch there, the food menu has changed and gotten more AMERICAN'IZD. It used to be good clean Asain fusion. Now it is saucy, over salted, and marinated to the point of distinction. We have eaten at this place about three times over the last year and a half. This last Saturday we went back after a few month hiatus. Could not believe the food was from the same restaurant. The Charred string beans were over saucy, the Lobster Mushroom just not appetizing, and the Sirloin skewer salted to death. Oh well. Another one bites the dust!!

Casey Hoogstraten

Always interesting, surprising, flavorful, and well thought out texture combinations. Adventurous without going more complicated than needed.

Shashwat P. Baxi

They do a good job of trying to elevate vegetarian dishes to be elegant and considered fine-dining. However, I felt that they almost tried too hard. Some of the flavors don’t mix well and I some are just too complicated. I also wasn’t thrilled with the quantity of food for the price. It was a good experience to be had, but I would probably not go back.

Rebecca Zamborsky

Two things keep me coming back to Bad Hunter: the carrot coconut cinnamon roll and the Spicy Carrot Cooler cocktail! That cocktail is such a delight with brunch - its subtle spice is a terrific counterpoint to the sweetness of the cinnamon roll. The aesthetic here is bright and relaxing with a chill vibe - a place that you can roll into wearing last night’s t-shirt and jeans or dressed in your cutest outfit and feel right at home. The staff is welcoming but they know their stuff, ask for a recommendation if you’re clueless - they’re happy to help out.

Julius Buzzard

This place is wonderful, from cocktails to small and large plates to desert, Bad Hunter hits the nail on the head. Leave room for the sun butter ice cream sandwich, you won’t regret it!

Tracy A. Szarzi Fors

This was one of the most unique dining experiences. The farm to table menu with creative twists everywhere make it a must go to.

Ammar Sayla

This was a pretty solid find by my co-worker. The have lunch specific light drinks on the menu, plenty of locally sourced drinks and food options and solid service. They are known for their vegetarian friendly options but I tried the 50/50 burger steak and mushroom burger which was amazing given all the pressure they have for being so close to the establishment that claims to have the best burger in town. We tried the brownie for dessert and they also surprised with a birthday dessert surprise that our server mentioned could only be tried by folks on special occasions. solid 4.75 Stars!

Michelle Quinn

Expensive for the portions but good overall

Shari Stadel

Great cocktails and good food that is more focused more on vegetables than meats. Wonderful staff that was very attentive and helpful. It's a good place to start your evening, a very relaxed and comfortable space.

M Reaves

Really creative menu that is well executed. Our hats off to the chef. The shared plates were a good size and we were full. The apple pie with cheddar was enough for two. It was tasty. Dave was our server and he did a fabulous job. We’ll be back.

John Garza

The coconut ceviche was fantastic. All our food was great and the cocktails were excellent.

Roger Kovessy

Good staff, food and service. They were very accommodating of our large group and made everything work.

Luke Powers

Good food but the atmosphere was off. They blared deep-cut rap music laced with plenty of swear words. I like rap (JayZ, Busta, Kanye, etc) but the tracks they were playing were terrible and loud so it was hard to have a conversation. It was weird pairing that with nice vegitarian food. I asked the manager about it and she said that's what the owners want so it's staying on and at that volume. Terrible choice by the owners to make it about themselves! Not going back.

Charles Nelson

Absolutely a great restaurant, all the food was fantastic, and the service was top notch. But know what you're getting into here. While not purely a vegetarian place, about 3/4 of the menu is vegetarian. And all of the plates are on the small side. We ordered 8 dishes for 4 people and cleaned them all. And this is in the "Randolph Corridor", so expect to have trouble parking. But if you are (or are dining with a) vegetarian and you want something special, this place definitely delivers quality.

Andy Burrows

The dinner menu here was superb. My wife and I had eaten lunch there and had felt “meh” but holy smokes that soft shell crab dish on the dinner menu is just out of this world. Like county fair funnel cake (one of my favorite things in the world) wrapped around perfect soft shell crab meat. It was fan-flipp-freaking-tastic. You win this time Bad Hunter...

Joe Cunningham

Tip - get the Salt Mine Potatoes and the Mail Flan!! The vibe is chill and the drinks are good! The salt mine potatoes were delicious and I HIGHLY recommend that you get them! I asked for a drink similar to an Old Fashioned because I couldn’t decide on what to order. I am not sure the name but it is picture here. It was so dark with a lot of tobacco flavor that it made tasting the food challenging. The drink was good but get it after dinner and dessert.

salah abdallah

Great food. Very polite staff. Super good hanger steak.

Kathleen Grace

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Highly recommend asking the server to pick out your meal for you. Ours (I believe it was Nathan) did a phenomenal job.

Lizzie McGowan

Unfortunately, this place was underwhelming for me. My boyfriend and I had the veggie burgers and we were disappointed. The patties were burned to a crisp and it was not vegan in that it included mayo and cheese. We tried to make modifications to it by getting new buns without mayo and cheese but that only made it taste worse. I chose this place because it was touted as having a great vegan burger but that was not the case. However, the vegan focaccia bread was really good.

Dunja Skowron

What a superb place to eat! Didn't know what to expect and this so exceeded my expectations. And I can't say enough about the staff! They were absolutely awesome! Definitely will go there again!

The pasta type dishes

This place is wonderful! The food here is excellent, the cocktails are incredible, and everyone is so nice and knowledgeable. I'll definitely be back!
