Quick overview: The food is delicious, there's a great selection, the atmosphere is nice and I had the impression that the owner cares about his customer's experience and the quality of the food. We found this restaurant about a year ago while in Boise for a seminar. I love Indian food and have been to many Indian restaurants in various different cities - this place is one of my favorites. We recently made a trip back to Boise and I couldn't leave without eating here again. Mr. Sohail (who I presume is the owner) was super friendly and surprisingly remembered us from a year ago. He's so fun to talk to. If you like Indian food give this place a try!

Kelsey Johndrow

So delicious! My husband got the goat chops and I had the lamb korma at a medium heat. We eat spicy and the medium was almost too spicy but perfect.

Gage Hamilton

Service was excellent, but the lunch buffet was pretty minimal, and many of the dishes had obviously been a little too edited for American tastes. I'd definitely like to have more flavorful and spicy dishes. Great patio.

Mohammed Zamier

This is a lovely place to try Indian cuisine they make it fresh and you can take the authentic flavours in he food. I went here a few time during my stay in Boise and I can tell you I will be back again. The only downside is they didn't have any prices on the menu which is a must I feel as how do you know if you were overcharged. But that aside it was a lovely experience and would visit again. The owner is very friendly and made me feel at home sohail is a true gent always checking if everything was ok with the food.

Annie Harris

Food was good but I felt the price didn't match the quality of the food.

landon strand

The food here is fantastic. The owner is a delightful older man. Funny and kind. The lunch buffet is definitely worth it. The meatballs were especially delicious. 100% recommend trying it. The samosas were amazing.

rajesh mali

Very good food , excellant palak paneer, Tasty yougurt , tasted like home food , great ambience

Travis

My wife and I were very impressed with the service and food. The staff was very friendly and helpful with dinner choices. I got the chicken Makhni and it was probably one of the best curry dishes I've ever had. We will be going back again!

Leila Richardson

Always delicious food and friendly service. One of my family's favorite restaurants in Boise.

Stephanie Stewart

The loved everything unfortunately I don't think the rice was cooked enough nor was the mung dal. The service was grand!!!!

Eric Morrison

Nice interior decor, great service, and truly excellent food.

Pamela Rock

Love this place. It is worth the walk.

Amanda Tranchell

Our family is obsessed with Indian food. This is literally THE BEST Indian food, and we've been to India twice! The food is fresh, and it is all homemade, nothing packaged. We make an extra effort to go to Boise when traveling just for their food. Bombay potatoes are the best thing I've ever eaten! Also, I've been here countless times and the service is always good, the facility is super clean and the owner is a super cool guy! I wish I could eat here every week. Too bad SLC is 5 hours away!

Derrick Clements

Really excellent food! You have to try the mango lassi -- perfect.

Willow Dion

Amazing food and people! So so good!

jace riley

Best Indian food I have had outside of India. Ive been to Indian restaurants in Seattle, Spokane, Portland, San Antonio, and all Boise locations and this is the most authentic I have found. Most Indian restaurants are of the Punjabi Style, but this restaurant tastes more Southern Indian to me, maybe it is the mix of the Pakistani influence. This is much better that the watered down, cutting corners version the other restaurants which makes the service generally slow, but it is worth the wait, and the wallet. I no longer live in the area, but anytime I even pass through, I will stop at Taj Mahal!

Kim Sherman-Labrum

This is the best Indian food in Boise. Their lentil soup and samosas are addictive and their lunch buffet is a fantastic bargain. Coupled with beautiful decor and wonderful customer service, this is one of my favorite restaurants.

IRaceFormula

Absolutely amazing food. I ordered the medium-spiced chicken Marsala. Portion sizes are very nice. Ambiance feels authentic with the decor and the music that is played in the background. My wife and I had some friends come from Philadelphia to visit, and they said that the Indian food here is better than the Indian food in Philly. That says a lot! We will definitely go there again!

I.N. K.

Delish! Lamb very tender. Best stuffed nana I have ever had! Quiet out of the way spot - a little secret hideaway.

Marj Reedy

I love this restaurant and the family that runs it. Everything is made as you order and is delicious! My favorite is Chicken Tikki Masala. We brought friends, who have never had Indian food before, and it is now their new favorite restaurant. I take the mango yogurt to go.

Onesphore Ntakarutimana

Not only I worked there, I also adore taj mahar food. It is a good place to get food specially when you feel bad ( no appetite). Their food restore your original appetite. If you like spicy sause, they are the best in Boise!

Nabil Kaali

Pleasure to eat here. Friendly service and great food.

An Out Recordings

Was delicious and the server is a wonderful, hilarious man :-)

Zack Weber

Best authentic Indian food in Boise, hands down!

David Dews

Taj Mahal has become a favorite of mine since moving to Boise 9 months ago. I make it a point to drop in for the lunch buffet at least once a week because I know everything will be delectable. The naan bread is the freshest, tastiest I've ever had. I've enjoyed my conversations with the very genuine, insightful, and interesting Sohail who wants his customers to experience the same quality food that he and his family eat in the privacy of their own home. Don't let the construction near the restaurant deter you. You can eat inside and avoid it completely. Even the construction workers break for lunch, so it's possible you can still eat outside and avoid it completely. I highly recommend this Gem State GEM!

Kati Wada

Best Indian food in town!!

Shayla Rigg

Service was amazing! We weren't rushed and were checked on frequently, needs we're definitely met. The food was so flavorful and while it had some heat it didn't take away from anything in the dish. Will be returning in the near future.

Charan Medisetty

People of Idaho, you are being deceived in the name of Indian food. This is neither home style food nor restaurant style. It's too expensive. I would never again come back or recommend. Come to Portland and I will show you what and how Indian food is served. I wonder how this restaurant got 4.4 ratings

James Temeyer

Came through with 2 other people about 25 minutes before they closed. They where super accomidating and friendly. The food was top notch.

Andrew Mentzer

Amazing food and the friendliest folks in Boise!

Hamza Ishaq

All I can say is you gotta witness this for yourself. Great family owned restaurant in the valley. Feels like they bring unique flavors straight from the Indian Subcontinent. They do not use any artificial flavors or colors in their food. The family is very nice. Service is excellent. It can get a little busy so definitely would recommend making a reservation.

Nicholas Esplin

Slow, bland, and overpriced.

Rubina Azam

The food is delicious and healthy. No artificial colors, no chemicals and spices the way you like it. I am very sensitive to indian food and always get sick afterwards. This is one of the very few places that i did not get sick and my body felt good. The plates may be a couple dollars more than an average resturaunt but its all worth it. Clean and upfront. Food is delicious yet mild and goes well with your body.

BombShell

The food was tasteless and customer service was horrible waited 10 mins for my naan to show up, it finally did when I was almost done with my meal. The old guy was annoying and irritating cracking non-sense jokes. Not a fun experience for me at all

Nina Carpenter

This place was yummy and the staff were friendly. The mint chutney was AMAZING!

L Jenkins

I called last night to see if they offer the buffet on Saturday. I told the gentleman I spoke with that my husband and I have never dined at this restaurant before, and we were really looking forward to having lunch there today. He was very nice and welcoming. As the restaurant opens at 11:30, we walked in today a little after 11:30 and there were two young men working. Well, one was sitting and one was working. They were not welcoming or professional. They said buffet wasn’t ready, and it might be a good 15-20 minutes. They said we could come back. That wasn’t a good first impression. We ate lunch elsewhere. I changed my review from one star to two, because I haven’t tasted the food and I don’t want to be unfair or unkind. Maybe there were extenuating circumstances?

Meesha B

Lunch buffet was so delicious! The service is outstanding. Prepare to be transported and immersed in a real cultural experience. Make sure to try the dessert. I think it is a rice pudding. So yummy!

Darcy Walters

We enjoyed great (vegan) food in the lunch buffet and had lovely service. The owner and his family were very friendly and we had fun conversation. The daughter-in-law of the owner offered us suggestions of fun things to do during our visit in Boise. Will definitely return the next time we pass through town.

Angela_ SoManyThings

Amazing Dining Experience! Lots of Vegan Selections, authentic spices from mild to hot! Great Atmosphere and Friendly Service/the BEST!!

Mike Starrett

Just enjoyed a nice lunch buffet here. The food was quite tasty and what really impressed me was the kind and welcoming nature of the proprietor. I’d definitely go back!

Mohammad Alarbash

What can I say. EXCELLENT FOOD, worth waiting because its made from scratch. don't blame the service if you're starving

Ry naughton

Hands down some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Very friendly owners with an awesome vibe. Nothing beats the homemade style traditional food. Try the butter curry

Tyler Allen

Great food with tons of flavor. The wait staff is super nice, and even the owner makes the rounds and talks to people. We will be going there again for sure!

Roshan

It was great experience with food, hospitality and ambiance. Center of city and easy accessible. Mango Lassie was great. Would like to go often and recommend to friends too. Thanks the food was goood.

Mike Hale

There was construction in the building but not too difficult to get to the entrance. Located in downtown Boise. Ordered combo byriani that was big enough for 3. Chatted awhile with the owner. Very good food and nice atmosphere.

Jason Bowers

wonderful experience tasting India's finest

Ally Miller

Great authentic Indian food. Their buffet is amazing good service and value.

Roy Cossairt

I'm thrilled whenever I HAVE to go downtown and have enough time to relax and eat. This local gem is a wonderful culinary delight with many happy moments for your taste buds. It is very possible to pop in and out for a quick lunch but I thoroughly enjoy relaxing and taking in the atmosphere.

B Heinz

I only give 5-star or 1-star ratings.... Taj Mahal was a 5!!! The food was amazing, period!!! If you are from the NW and they ask you about the spice level (1-7), you don’t need to go over a 3. :) I can’t remember the last time I had Indian food this good... And what “L Jenkins”, who gave a 1-star rating, failed to realize is that they make all of the food fresh... If you want McDonalds, go to McDonalds!

Christina Abel

This is Indian food at its finest! The owners are friendly and welcoming, and the food is amazing! I highly recommend the Taj Mahal to anyone who loves Indian cuisine and to those who are first-timers.

Amir Rezaii

Taj Mahal has been one of my favorite Indian restaurants in town since I moved to Boise over 10 years ago. The naan is definitely my favorite in town; made fresh with melted butter on top. As for everything else, there are so many variations on even "standard" dishes from restaurant to restaurant, that I don't really have favorites, I just enjoy them as their own dish, and they can become the version I crave at different times. I've never been in at dinner; personally, I prefer the lunch buffet because I like a little of everything. My favorites at Taj Mahal are probably the vegetarian samosas and the meatballs (not Italian style - unfortunately I don't know the name, but they're a regular dish during the lunch buffet), but I don't think I've ever tried anything that wasn't good. On top of the food, the owner is one of the nicest people I've been fortunate enough to meet - every member of the family I've talked to has been very pleasant; and whether I'm in a few times a week or once in 6mo, the owner is always there to greet me and ask how things are. He's even fed me from the kitchen and refused to let me pay when I took a late lunch one day and had just missed the buffet. I've also witnessed him warmly tell his employee one day "no charge, that's not his fault" when a guy came in, dished up a plate, and had to leave abruptly without eating. Ultimately, it's a local business that's been around for a long time, run by a local and wonderful family; and it's exactly the type of business that I feel deserves to succeed. Sadly, between all of the construction downtown and in the 8th street garage, the reduced visibility and utter lack of foot traffic from people avoiding the construction is really hurting their business. So if you work in or near downtown and need a quick lunch that isn't fast food, but is very reasonably priced and delicious, look for them at the top of the escalators in the 8th street garage, next to The Balcony - the only other business that has survived all the construction.

cory betz

Great place! Great food! The owner was super funny! Definitely a place everyone should try.

Christopher Harris

Super friendly & knowledgeable owners. We ordered two curries and the gluten-free naan, all of which was some of the best Indian food we have ever had (and we have eaten a lot of it over the years). The food is made from scratch, and our dishes were ready in 15 minutes. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Boise area!

Izzat Razak

Im from Malaysia, They got awesome Mediterranean food, big portion for briyani, one of the best halal restaurant in Boise.

Andrew Werner

This place is awesome! A previous review mentioned an old guy making bad jokes and they didn't have a fun time - that reviewer must not be a fun person, cause the server was hilarious! Great food, a little overpriced, but worth it. Huge portions. If you come with a group make sure you set aside a lot of time cause it took a good while for our food to get out.

Seetharaman Ganesan

Great authentic food. Prepared from fresh spices. Enjoyed every bit of it.

Zack Tucker

Delicious! Compareable to other Indian restaurants local to Boise.

Jay Iyer

In over 10 years I haven’t seen such a worst service ever!! I placed the order 2 hours before I picked up time. They said they did not even receive the order.

Alain Tulinabo

Food is incredible! Customer service is great. A definitely a place to stopby when visiting Boise.

tina lebrett

Some staff was VERY friendly - others didn’t say a single word or make eye contact. We arrived right at opening time - the appetizers came out quickly but the main meal took quite a while & there were only 3 in our party. Food was oily or greasy? Flavor was good but it was over $90 for 3 people. Personally I prefer Bombay Grill for this type of food.

John Ripley

Fresh Masala Goat, Butter Naan Bread and Mango Lassi. Wow! Eat here; the owners are fantastic and the food delightful.

Vanessa M. Horner

Today was my second time here & I was very impressed, again! I am vegan & they have so many vegan dishes to choose from! Everything I've had was delicious! The owners are extremely nice; both times I was there they came to our table to make sure we were happy & satisfied. Last time it was a busy Saturday night & they still made time to check on us personally. I love Taj Mahal!

Emile O

Sigh, , We came here because Bombay Grill was closed. Waitress could not communicate in English effectively enough to help us with the menu. We wanted one dinner to share between the two of us. We had two small dishes plus rice for $36.00 and no drinks for what we thought was one dinner. When we challenged the waitress on this she had to get the owner because she could not comprehend what we were saying. The food was good but not for the price. The last time we were there we order a bottle of what we were told was beer which in fact was a mead and it was $25 dollars and not worth it I might add. The owner is very nice and the food is good but the other experiences negate going back. I do believe as another Indian reviewed this place that there is better food for a cheaper price.

Levi Doran

Fanatic food and friendly service.

Moin Ahmed

It was first day of our stay in Boise, ID downtown and we were looking for a good place to eat some Desi food, we came across this place. The place is well decorated, staff is friendly, ambiance is amazing but I didn't like the taste of food. They serve the well quantity, even a single serving is good enough for two persons but I must say they have to work on the taste too. Authentic Desi dishes need to match their authentic taste, and unfortunately it was missing. Still I would recommend to go and decide yourself.

Vamshi Kappagantula

This place is horrible Brought the naan out before the curry and would give lame excuses as to why the food isn’t ready. It tasted horrible. And we were never comped for the food. Never ever go here.

Jennifer Steffen

Delicious Indian food in the heart of downtown. Great service, as well.

Mary Korte

This is a fun and friendly place to eat great Pakistani food. The owner loves his job and his customers. We always have a good time when we go. Be sure to ask for mild unless you love heat. They are very gluten free friendly and vegetarian friendly and they honor special events with fun pics.

Scott Duncan

Excellent food and service. I showed up with a large group not too long before closing and it wasn't a problem at all. We didn't receive our food super fast, but then we were a group of ten. Portions were huge.

Chandan DasGupta

This is probably the maximum I have spent for a single dish in my life. Goat Biryani for $26. Not sure how that works. And dear Taj Mahal, which of the well known varieties of Biryani is this - Hyderabadi, Malabar, Lucknow, Kolkata? You guys are sitting in a corner of the world where the unsuspecting public cannot tell this from that, and you happily go ahead and fleece them. Biryani has many variants, but what qualifies each as bonafide is their harmony of the constituent flavors. You cannot just throw any typically used Indian spices together and call it Biryani. You are doing so and selling the result for double the price of a usual (and relatively more authentic) Biryani! PS. I've had lousy Biryani not worth the name elsewhere as well, but not for 26 bloody dollars. If this was 10 bucks less, I would have held my peace.

Grant Feichtinger

Some of the best Indian food I’ve had anywhere.

Nicole Renteria

Best Indian food I've had! Highly recommend the Korma curry, very delicious :)

Gerri Graves

Absolutely brilliant Indian Food. Cozy, romantic atmosphere. Easy parking. Owners are so damn friendly. Warm and inviting. Everything made from scratch....the food truly IS that amazing. Access to 8th Street, movies, concert hall and local drinking establishments. Right smack in the middle of downtown. Easy to just park for the night, eat dinner and walk to more activities. Only thing keeping me from giving a 5, is that it is too expensive. Over priced, to be honest. (2 adults and a teenager: 3 curries, 2 orders of samosas, 2 orders of garlic naan, 1 mango lassi, 1 beer, 2 frambois, and 1 dessert shared- almost 300.00 with tip) If they lowered their prices, I would be there all the time.....but until they do, I fear they might just price themselves right out of business.

Kellie Gosselin

Great, authentic (at least according to my Indian friends), home style food. Love the buffet so you can try different dishes.

Salend Prasad

Food was excellent, would give the food a 4 star rating. However, service was another story. Waited for over 2 hours for our dinner, waitress never came to check on us and never asked if we needed more water or drinks the entire time we were there. Had to ask everytime we needed a drink refill. Though, the dinner that evening was definitely wonderful. My hope for my next visit, the service will have improved.

Chris Utley

We've eaten here a couple of times, and it really is an under-appreciated little place. The staff is friendly, and really great at making recommendations. Great authentic food that will leave you wanting more. The dining experience is a true taste of India.

M Lyndon Dieter

In town for a medical conference and as per our usual, sought out Indian cuisine. Arrived for the buffet, modest layout, very pleasant outdoor/patio seating and very friendly service. The price is right, the food was tasty and the location convenient. We’ll be back.

sagenav

We've been there twice now. The first time we decided to eat there before a show we were attending. We sat in the restaurant for about half an hour before anyone came up to our table. Then we sat for another half an hour waiting for our drinks to arrive. We sat for about another 45 minutes waiting for our food, when we had to finally leave to make our show. Seems they often forgot we were there as the waitress really never checked in on us. The second time we went was very similar. We kept having to track down a waitress to remind them we needed another drink or even more water. The waitstaff seemed very indifferent. We were in the restaurant for over 3 hours with this kind of service. By the time we got our food everyone was ready to leave. I will say the food is very good, but not worth the service ordeal and long waits. Waiting for good food is fine as long as you have good service. Two times is enough for us, we won't likely be back.

MrHolsten12345

Everything was good and the food was more than delicious, but the only problem was they take long time to prepare the food

Chris Vogl

Delicious and authentic Indian and Pakistani style food. You have to wait a while for the food because it is all made from scratch. Catch the lunch buffet if you are in a hurry. A little bit on the expensive side but it's worth it in my opinion. Ask for the butter chicken or chicken vindaloo for an off the menu treat.

Tracy Chen

Great authentic Indian cuisine, reasonable price. They owner is awesome, very friendly and even offered me a free sample of their house made kombucha.

Lala Anna Marie Demaree

The deluxe pedi is well worth the extra $$. Quality service and work.

Jonathan Bott

Very good food and amazing service. Their spiciness scale is based on American standards so if you like really hot food ask for "extra hot." Thier prices are a little hefty but the food was really good.

Iuno Jones

To start, I firmly believe this is some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The food was amazing. It truly was home cooking, amazing flavors and unique in a way you only see coming out of a beloved family members kitchen. The lassi came in a corked glass bottle, the naan was soft and flavorful, and the dishes were packed with spice and flavor. Every fish is made by scratch so you can choose how spicy you want them to be. Now the night was one of their busiest nights since it was new years. When one of my orders got misplaced they brought it out soon after complimentary. 10/10 service! The owner even made it his business to try and talk to all the tables asking how their meals were. With large portions, great atmosphere, wonderful staff, and the best Indian food I've had I will surely return to this restaurant!

Chad Ruger

Great stop on our way through. The owner and his wife run the place and serve authentic dishes that they were taught to make from their parents. Best Indian food I have had in a long time. Great ambience, friendly service, and flavorful dishes. Also, if you go, make sure you get a mango lassi. You’ll thank me later. Definitely making it a regular stop as we travel through Boise.

Thomas Rushton

The food here is wonderful and the staff are also excellent. It does however take quite a long time to get your food. But I guess you can't rush food and still make it taste this good because it was excellent.

Suzy Williams

EXCELLENT Indian food! Fresh and "made to order". The short wait was so worth it. Great atmosphere and staff. I will be back when visiting Boise. ~Make sure you have a Mango Lassi.

Cassidy Inthapanyaongsa

We have been eating here for years. The food and the experience has always been fantastic.

Eric Kelly

Pretty good food for the area. I will have to try them again before i rave about their food. When i was there they had no rice pudding which was a big let down for me. It might not be so much for the next individual but most indian restaurants typically have it and thus was disappointed when they lacked it.

Jorge Ortiz

We stopped in Boise, Idaho for one night and my wife googled this restaurant. The service was awesome and food was great. Definitely a place to go if you are close to Boise Downtown in Idaho.

Prayer Black

The Owners Are A Lovely Family. Mr. Ishaq Is Remarkable Hospitable And Harmonious With Guests.

Patricia Kriegel-Teske

Delightful cooking and service. Great value and variety.

Sonja Hambridge

Very friendly service. The lunch buffet was delicious with lots of vegan choices. Dishes are authentic , also dessert drinks and tea are above the ordinary.

Alyson Davis

One of my favorite places in town. The service and food are amazing! I'm sad I'm moving away and won't be able to go there weekly anymore.

Dave Carter

Easily one of the best places to grab lunch in downtown Boise. Super friendly staff, great food, great prices, and great atmosphere. You get hot and fresh naan bread with your meals. What more do you need to hear? Go eat at this place, you will not regret it.

Rudra Pokhrel

We waited more than 30 minuets for starter and about an hour for chicken biryani. Biryani was not fully cooked.

Oscar Terrazas Jr

My family and I LOVED our experience at Taj. The staff was absolutely wonderful. I wasn't sure what to expect... but I was extremely satisfied as was my family with all our food and our drinks. The portions were very large so just be ready. We will be dining here again for sure. For anyone looking outside the norm here in the treasure valley... you should stop in and try it. If you rate this place anything less than 5 stars you were more than likely having a bad day and or you just don't like Indian food... bc this place was was legit.

Tim Guill

My favorite restaurant of ALL TIME! No, seriously. Their Chicken Madras, Garlic Nana, and a beer (usually suggested by the one of a kind owner) is the finest meal that you can have. I have been going to the Taj for more than 12 years; always great, always friendly, always a worth the extra time it takes for a handcrafted indian meal.

Trent Briggs

The best Indian food and service in town. You feel like family and incredibly welcomed. Highly recommend.

Christina B

Best place in town! Family owned and they treat you like family! All food made from scratch!! Love it highly recommended! Owners are awesome!!

Jayme Perryman

My family enjoyed the family style servings, we all ordered different things and enjoyed sampling each other’s. The food was delicious and presented nicely. The restaurant was clean. My 8 year old loved the butter chicken! Cozy atmosphere, it is a nice family owned business. We will definitely be back, often!

Nate Marineau

Delicious, atmospheric, and friendly as all get out. My favorite restaurant in Boise. I like the buffet the best for the value and large selection of vegan items (my friends who eat meat enjoy the other dishes). It never seems crowded, and the vibe is casual and relaxed while remaining intimate and charming like a small restaurant should. The owners are the nicest people around. There's no rush whatsoever, which is great because you can sit and chat for an hour, but if you are in a hurry, you might have to ask for your check because they want you to take your time and feel comfortable. Taj Mahal deserves way more business!

DoNae Thompson

Yummy food great atmosphere! Friendly staff.

Breaking Boise

I was the only one there, so the service was nice. I had Chicken korma, a beer, and nan, the total was $28.09. The portions are on the small side, but the food is very good. I am still not getting why they offer steak in their food. I had the impression that cows were sacred in India, and not to be eaten?? I still prefer Bombay Grill on 10th and Main.

Kylie Touchstone

Great place, awesome food and even better people. They really make you feel welcomed.

Raymond Mikus

First this place is open even with construction, go visit! Second, nice atmosphere, good food!

William Ayers

We had a group seven and was given a adapted table as soon as possible. Everyone ordered different menu items and every dish was fantastic! Yes, the wait was a little long, but it was worth it! I recommend ordering the garlic or onion nann bread to accompany the rice. We all plan to be back!

Kevin Hunkovic

Made reservations for 7pm. Did not receive our food until 8:45. No one was receiving good service. This restaurant has a very small kitchen and cannot handle the number of tables that they have. The restaurant made no attempts to fix the situation. No ones meals were comped. 20 minutes would go by without them even talking to the guests. Hot tea took 30 minutes. Avoid this place.

Noemaun Ahmed

First of all, I wish this place was open on Sundays. Most of the time when I crave Indian food it's on a Sunday and the next best place to eat Indian food is wholefoods in Boise. The service is not great especially considering that I have been there when it isn't too busy. But for once, the food was amazing. Most of my Indian friends don't like this place though. They prefer loads of spice and don't care about fresh quality of ingredients. The food here has always been fresh and it's worth that extra money. In that sense, it's nice to see that this place isn't trying to be just another Indian restaurant.

Tedie Ayo

This is one of the best Indian restaurant I have ever eaten at. They are friendly and family oriented. They work with uber eats and takes reservations. They also do buffet in the day time and dine in in the evening. I love everything they have to offer and nothing has coloring food in it.

Ryan vanStraten

Great food and even better service! If you have not been here seek it out! Vegan options are on point and delicious!

Leigh Ford

Convenient downtown location, lots of halal and vegetarian options, absolutely flavorful and delicious! The owner is such a delightful person too. He cracks me up

Roger Perez

Buffet lunch is great. Good service. Good price for lunch and all you can eat. The naan is so so good!

Allyssa Davis

Ate here for dinner.... AMAZING food and service. We will be back again and again. We had Tandoori Chicken and another rice dish with Nann... We also had their chai tea. It was outstanding!

Sam Lawrence

Absolutely fantastic. If you like Indian cuisine and are in the area you must try Taj Mahal. I've eaten at dozens of Indian food restaurants across several states and this is probably the best one I've ever been too. Everything is made to order from scratch and it shows. The atmosphere is great also. I live an hour away and will definitely make the trip to come again.

Cellarhuk

I wish I could give 7 stars! The food is great, ok? Decent, lovely Indian and Pakistani food at extremely fair prices. But even if it wasn't, I'd go just for the service and tell them it was the best ever anyway... because the owner is one of the coolest people I ever encounter in Boise. He runs the front of the house, sometimes with his little grandson on hip, while his wife cooks and runs a kitchen staffed mainly with women, many of whom are refugees. Service can be slow, but not a big deal at all considering the quality. Besides, if you go for lunch, just get the buffet.

Alex English

Excellent food, generous portions. We ordered two entrees and got much more food than two people have business eating. We tried goat for the first time and enjoyed it. The paneer was done perfectly, soft, but with just a little bit of crispiness on the outside, and good flavor. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere nice.

Ramanujam Sundarrajan

Great place for variety of Indian food

We where invited to a group lunch there, other wise I had never been in. I've lived in the valley for 15 years and never tried it for one reason or another. I'm so GLAD WE DID ! The food is really good, the owner was so nice and spoke with us. The staff is laid back, but take pride in their work. WHY DID WE WAIT SO LONG TO TRY IT! New fav spot !

We frequent Indian restaurants all over the U.S.....Chicago, NYC, LA, and even London. This was the best Indian food we have had anywhere. Great service and pride in what they do. We are here for the weekend and will be coming back!

My cousin and I stumbled into Taj Mahal this weekend and we were so delighted and surprised! The buffet was reasonably priced, well-stocked, and so so delicious. The owner’s commitment to quality and his bright, warm personality make Taj Mahal a great experience. Can’t wait to come back!!

Paul Nottingham

Sohail and his family work so hard to bring delicious family recipes to your table and your family. The service is like you are treasured guest in their home. The blend of spices and fresh cooked entrees are fantastic and make each visit memorable. Spread the word Boise...Taj Mahal will put a smile on your face and you won't leave hungry. Thanks for a great family dining experience from your family to ours.

The environment was nice. But way way overpriced $100 (with 3 beers) for two people an the food was not all that great. We wish it had been better.

Nathan Bishop

They best food in Boise. Owner hand prepares every dish. Takes awhile to get your food, but once you do, the wait was well worth it.

Celeste Young

Each year in early December, we pass through Boise on our travels. Each year, we make a beeline to Taj Mahal for dinner. We are always greeted by the owner and have had excellent food. This year we had the pea and potato appetizer (I think it’s called pakora), lamb biryani, madras chicken curry, Chana masala, and a bottle of mango lassi to share. We choose the least amount of spice, yet there was still plenty of flavor. The chutneys that came with the appetizer were quite spicy, so I go easy on them.

Never been to this location, but when they used to be across town I'd hit up the lunch buffet all the time. The naan bread is out of this world! Rivalling anything I've had in NYC. Dishes are made from scratch. The older couple who runs the place is so sweet. When I moved to Boise after college and was homesick, I'd go eat there and they would come chat me up at my table... They felt like surrogate grandparents:-p. If I ever go back and visit Boise I'm definitely eating there again.

Shekkinah Alseth

This is my favorite restaurant of all time. The somosas and curry are incredible. The owner is so very friendly and hilarious and I'm convinced his wife makes the best food in Idaho.

Hussain Aldowailah

Really enjoyed the food here since 2015, for almost 4 years. The food is so tasty, the dining experience is great. Original Indian and Pakistani cuisines. Highly recommended for any occasion. Best Restaurant to offer this type of food in the State.

Pradeep Patlolla

The restaurant is in downtown, good ambience. We ordered Chicken Biryani and Fish tikka...they were not so great...price is anyway is on upper side due to downtown...!

Tara Brandenburg

Great food, great service. I love it! Best Indian Food in the North West. If you come to town and you don't go here, then you're missing out!

Joseph Rudnicki

Hidden gem of a restaurant. Food was very flavorful, they had a really good array of dishes for the lunch buffet, and it was amazing value. What really put them over the top was the naan! It was light instead of the usual dense chewy variety, but still perfect to pick up the curries. Service was great also, I will definitely be back.

Ravi Sharma

Fast friendly service with delicious food. Purveyor has been in area for 25+ years serving delicious Indian food. Enjoy!

Tiffany Swanson

Best Indian food in the valley. Terrific naan. Wide selection of sauces, meat, and vegan. Yummy jasmine rice. Soft, cozy lighting. Great for groups or couples.

Currently the BEST Indian Food in Boise right now. The Woman running the kitchen is in my top 3 of the Best Executive Chefs in the whole State of Idaho. Her Haebenero Chutney is a masterpiece. Lunch is great. Dinners range between outstanding and divine.

Akshay Birajdar

Fantastic Vegetarian food and very good service. Owner is a very polite and gentle person. He went out of the way and served us, even after restaurant operating hours.

Lijo George

Good food. Great prices. I highly recommend Taj Mahal hotel. Discovered this gem by chance while strolling through in Boise. The warmth and hospitality of the host resonates in their service of this family owned hotel. On my second visit to Boise – I must have had almost all my meals here.

Kittycatlane

Our family loves their buffet! Everything is made from scratch, and tastes delicious! They have vegetarian options, and their Naan...oh, their Naan is HEAVEN! The owners are warm, friendly and welcoming. On 8th street, downtown Boise,(upper balcony) Go, enjoy! We do!

Becky Baily

Amazing food. I recommend to anyone. The family who owns this restaurant is genuinely interested in their customers and all the food is prepared individually for you when you order.

Ron Coe

Tops for a dinner to remember. Great steaks served on a sizzling Stone and cocktails 2nd to none

Amer Soharwardi

Its the most beautiful food lace in whole boise for Indian and Pakistani food. The ambience is good The owners are very welcoming.

Garrett Kerr

From the ambience, to the location, to the food. It's a perfect score for me! A great place for lunch or dinner. I'm just mad that I hadn't known about Taj Mahal sooner.

Erick Hull

Loved the food. The Palak it's great

The food here is amazing. This quaint and cozy Indian restaurant is nestled right in the heart of downtown so it is a perfect place to start off your night out on the town. The reason I stopped just short of 5 stars was the service. Our server was nice, but completely lacked attentiveness to any other table but one. Three nice looking ladies were at the table he was very much attentive to, my assumption being that he had other things on his mind rather than the rest of the guests eating there. Little did he know that I, too, am a server at a nice restaurant. I am a firm believer in taking care of our own when it comes to my gratuity. He still received a generous tip from me, but it could have been much more generous. The food did take quite sometime to come out, but everything there is handmade so this is to be expected. The owner is an extremely nice guy. I spent more time with him rather then my server. Super disappointed with the service but super delighted with the food.

We had a lovely and delicious dinner there tonight. so glad to have found this place. The food was freshly made and nicely spiced. Great, friendly host/ owner. Nice atmosphere. We are so happy to have found this place and look forward to another meal. We had mamas zucchini and a curry dish, plus chai. Yum.

John Looze

Superb lamb Curry and naan bread. Always at least two different and good beers on tap that I have not seen anywhere else. Not inexpensive, but you receive good value.

Kirk Jackson

Great Indian food in a laid back restaurant.

Stacey Thornycroft

“Heartwarming”. Amazing food and service. The Dal is the best thing we’ve ever tasted. Our waiter was charming and very very helpful in ordering vegan with SO Many options.

Jenny Hefner

The food, people, and atmosphere make this restaurant an amazing dining experience

Sara Anderson

Terrible service, low quality food. Almost no meat in the lamb biryani and goat curry! They didn't have ice for water! we waited 45 min for our food! We ordered sweet lassi and they brought us salty lassi, when we asked them to change it they forgot to bring the right one so we had to go to the counter and get the right one! We ordered papadam with assorted chutney and they forgot to bring the chutney! The biryani was supposed to come with raita but instead of raita which is a thick yogurt based sauce, they gave us a tiny cup of salty lassi that we sent back to begin with! This all cost us $57! I think that people who have given this place 5 stars have never been to a good Indian restaurant, having Indian decoration in a restaurant doesn't mean that is a 5 star place.

Aili Eld

I always love going to the Taj Mahal

James Gross

Yes, the service can be slow at times but if you are not in a rush give it a try. You feel tucked away into a different world if you dine inside and the owner is very genuine and kind. The samosas taste just like they do in morocco and the curry is out of this world.

Tristan Stanley

The food was delicious and had a variety of vegan and vegetarian choices. The owners were so friendly and accommodating. What a gem!

Gerald Murphy

I appreciate the Irony of a caucasian suggesting an Indian restaurant isn't authentic. I'm nonetheless going to brave it and say the food I had here with my Tamil partner was not recognizable. Unless, of course, over salted dal and dry as bone paneer swimming in oil is a version of bengali food I just seem to have missed all my life. The food was vile and the server, lovely. I wouldn't eat here again if my life depended on it.

Cinzia Ballantyne

had a great time at the lunch buffet here today! all fresh ingredients, made from scratch when you order, and the owner really welcomes you personally as if you are his family. the food is delicious, with incredibly complex flavours just like indian food should have!! can't wait to go back.

Jana H.

Food was average, a bit too much oil. But the fact that they charged us $8 for a small plastic bottle of Pelligrino sparkling water that normally costs less than $1 is outrageous! I realize that they want to make a profit but this is awful! Will not be returning there!

N Jenx

Don't know how I ended up here but what a great night!!

M. J.

We ordered Chana Masala Punjabi, Palak curry with Tofu, and bread. Everything is very tasty. There's also an option for a custom order like Indian Chai (without sugar) which is a pleasant experience. Friendly staff and clean indoor and outdoor seating area.

siphayne 1

Family owned and family run. I love coming here for lunch (buffet) and dinner. The chai tea is amazing. I've tried about 6 or 7 different dishes and never been disappointed in the quality. Naan is also excellent!
