I wish this place could pick it up. We live in the apartments off Ellen's Ferry and finally decided to walk over and try Capitol Bar. From what we knew of Shotsie's it was an older crowd and there wasn't much to offer a younger generation, but we thought maybe this place would come around. We walk in on Valentine's to try their bloody mary bar which is good but the atmosphere is just bland. I was also extremely confused on the menu. There was everything from burritos to lettuce wraps I felt like there was everything and wasn't getting the theme of the restaurant. Everyone in there was over 50 and it gave us a vibe that we would not return to. You won't survive catering to the older generation the newer generation is where business will thrive. It also doesn't have much to offer as far as a restaurant/bar on state street does. Dutch Goose offers bogo hamburgers on Tuesdays and dollar beers on Thursdays, McCleary's offers $2 Jack and Coke's on Fridays and the Lift offers many things like cheap wing Monday and a great burger deal on Tuesday's. There's nothing special that would make me want to come back. Get a younger generation in there with some better deals.

This cozy bar is a hidden gem off State Street that shouldn't be passed up! Renee, Eric and Paul were the employees there last night and every part of the evening was personal and relaxing! Definitely recommend the artichoke dip as it's some of the best I've ever had

We visited on the tail of happy hour and really enjoyed ourselves. Staff was friendly and the place was very laid back. While not quick it was homey and pleasant. Nice selection of beers and cocktails. Tastey food though I with they did the sides in house (bagged chips). We'll go back when we want laid back and relaxing.

Not exactly sure where to start. Burgers were good but not worth going out of the way for especially with the terrible bar service, expect 15-20 wait once you put your drink order in, even for beers. Our server seemed very over worked which wasn’t her fault. We were told we could sit on the patio but didn’t realize this was a smoking area. Cigars and food just don’t mix. Tried it once won’t be back ever again.

I don't know.. Maybe not my crowd. But worst was the way they talked about customers wanting to order food right behind the bar and how they talked to people on the phone. I heard they had a write up in the paper about the burgers. I guess it was a hit, but then the employees seemed angry and exhausted that people wanted to order more. Seems like a bad move to me. But what do I know..

I really enjoyed the selection of beer to choose from. It isn't a VAST beer menu, just very well considered and chosen beers as a selection. The staff is friendly, professional, and efficient. I'll definitely go again and again.

CHECK IN ON YELP FOR A $5 COCKTAIL! $3.50 in savings. Thanks, YELP! I had heard the name several times (always good things) and always semi looked for it when I was downtown (thinking that this would have been downtown for some reason), but never "stumbled" upon it. I was invited to an after-work happy hour on a Friday night and low and behold at Captial Bar... on State St near Glenwood! Invitation accepted! This pace is small, but not too small. They do have a kitchen that is open minimal hours, and really basic foods, which is perfect for a bar. The food is, to me, a little more classy than traditional bar food. Please look at my photo of the menu. I ordered my $5 cocktail, the Manhattan. Once that was gone, I quickly ordered a Cosmopolitan $8.50, followed by a Scofflaw $8.50 (Rittenhouse Rye with sweet and sour). I chose these three because I like to "try" everything on a menu and always something new. Is your favorite food your true favorite food? What if something AMAZING is out there that you haven't experienced yet? Try new things!! :)~ Photos uploaded! Oh... Food... YES! I chose the hummus plate, which came with a well-balanced favorable pita chip and a delicious hummus dip, $7. (see pics) They have a good happy hour on beer, $1.50/pint, and televisions to catch the BIG game! Your bill comes in a book titled, "Mr. Boston Delux Official Bartenders Guide", which was something that I haden't seen before and was unique to Capital Bar.

Cool, cozy vibe. Very good and unique beer selection, good prices on liquor and cocktails. The biggest draw for me though is the food. A small, but satisfying menu and the best pork bahn mi sandwich I've ever eaten.

I've been coming here for 3 years and have always received wonderful service and enjoyed a good time. Last time when my husband and I went, our server/bartender Renee was not only impatient and rude all evening, but in the two hours we were there, she had at least 5-6 smoke breaks, and never once washed her hands when returning back to work. If you are serving people food and beverages, you should not reek of cigarette smoke. I don't want your third hand smoke carcinogens all over the lemon you just squeezed and dropped into my drink. I'm sure it's some sort of health code violation, and in my opinion washing your hands before touching someone's food is basic common sense.

Decent place and reasonable happy hour. Still amazed Boise is averaging $6 a beer but the staff are friendly and it seems like they care about service. Don’t cheat on the crossword puzzle like my drunk friend. We tried rib night and thought they were okay but not the best but respectable.

There is no better neighborhood bar in Boise. The staff is awesome, it's a relaxed atmosphere, has excellent food and the drinks are made with complete attention to perfection. Did I mention that on Wednesday's they have the best wings I have ever had in my life? The salmon and saltines appetizer is incredible, they make the best old fashion ever and you have to try the mac n cheese. There is a reason that this is the first place to make it in this location and develop a devoted following. That's because it is excellent. I make this my go to for business clients.

I played a songwriters spotlight here. I was the first one to start the series so it was awesome for me. But there was a male bartender that was being a bit rude to me even though I was the spotlight. Not a wise move. I wont play there again especially when the bartender acts like that. Every place knows the code. Treat ur musicians like family so your bar makes more money. Not the case here.

First of all, the news article should have stated that it was the best CHEESEburgers, not hamburgers for here was my experience. We arrived early to be seated before burgers ran out. Approximately 30 - 40 minutes after arrival waitress took our order and I did notice that the best burger had cheese and asked for no cheese. Waitress wrote down but I also noticed the burgers on the grill outside all had cheese. She came back served my husband his burger and asked if I could just scrape the cheese off mine unknowing if I were allergic to cheese or not. I said no. 15 minutes later sorry no burger for you. Ok, I'll try the shrimp roll. 20 minutes later, sorry no shrimp rolls left. Really? Spent well over an hour there - no food for me. Shouldn't the kitchen and/or waitress know there was no shrimp rolls to be served? She deleted the drinks my husband had off the tab. He got one cheeseburger, fries, 2 drinks and I had one drink and watched everyone chowing down their food.

I really loved trying this place out. We don’t live anywhere near this (we live in SE Boise) but I honestly would come back. The burgers were delicious and the spicy fries were also A+! Service was super friendly and fast and the patio area is gorgeous.

I ordered the green chili cheeseburger and he ordered the provisions burger. My green chili burger was bursting with flavor. His provisions burger was average. He expected better from all of the great reviews. The fries were ok. I am very thankful we got the waiter that we did! We got our food about 15 min prior to a couple that walked in ahead of us who had the other waitress!

Came in to try the food. Had the Argentinean Tri Tip sandwhich. It was amazing. Had to eat the whole thing even though I was full halfway through. The bartender was friendly. They have a great selection of bourbon, tequila and beers on tap. The overall atmosphere was clean, relaxed and stylish.

Here for burger night..It is delicious ..real burgers. And shoot the chef won Guys Burgers ..so I think he knows what he is going..and the fries with the ghost pepper..omg!!. PLEASE go partake..you will leave happy!
