REVIEWS OF The Reef Bar & Market Grill IN Hawaii

Harry Johnson

Great concept, but lacked quality meat. Ribeye was tough... thin... and the host decided to make her own rules when asked if we could sit by the window (it was not busy, plenty of seats st 7:30pm)... manager apologized and said they did not have a policy of saving seats by the window, first come first serve... the 3 stars are for poor quality of meat... MOD and servers were excellent, I wouldn’t let one incident give a poor rating... nice atmosphere...

Dino Ende

We sat at the bar for a relaxing time near the beach. The bartenders are great. Drinks don't have a huge selection. But the atmosphere is very pleasant. In the evenings I highly recommend taking the option to grill your own steaks or fish. It's a fun event that you should do at least once if you like to grill out. Since you don't have a grill in the hotel it's worth the effort.

Dave Borjes

Service was on point and the drinks were perfect, other than that, the food is total c*ap. I will never step foot in there again. We ordered oysters and they were straight up OFF. I ate at way better places all over the island at half the price.

Sharon Perkins

For this view the prices are reasonable. We were fans of the Shorebird Restaurant that used to be here: bbq your own cut of meat and get all the salad bar, rice, mashed potatoes and bread you could eat. The prices were lower, but the restaurant was looking older. That was two years ago. Today we see they’ve remodeled the bbq grill area and salad bar area; raised prices and changed the menu to include more a la carte choices. We came at 4:30 P.M. and were told we couldn’t order dinner til 5:00, so we asked for a table by the window ledge and ordered drinks and appetizers until we could get dinner. What a spectacular, shaded, unobstructed view of the ocean, beach goers, sail boats and Diamond Head. All five senses are engaged with the Hawaiian music, sea breeze and bbq, and amazing colors of the ocean. We had the Steak and Shrimp Nachos, which were superb. The shrimp was very fresh, huge and seasoned really well. Chunks of tender steak were hidden throughout the mountain of crisp flour tortilla chip strips, fresh guacamole (like 1 1/2 cups of guacamole), jack did, pico de gallo, jalapeños, Mexican cheese (either cotija or asadero, I forget, see photo), lemon wedge and a side of salsa. At the bottom was a smear of cumin-flavored black beans. Some of the best nachos I’ve ever had. We also got the Reuben sliders, salad bar, steak and shrimp kabobs, and those were all good. My friend said,”We should eat here every day. I could just stare at the water.” Our server was attentive and kept the cups topped off and used dishes cleared. We highly recommend.

Great place to visit

Laura Nely Montes Huicochea

Food is really good, friendly staff. Nice view

Chris Doherty

Very Expensive...Ribs were some type of sliced meat medallion....unknown...and the meat in the cooler was old and starting to turn brown...Not worth the money spent. Drinks were ok, staff was friendly, Mac and cheese was tough and lacking cheese.

Chrisee K

Great spot amazing views and great drinks

John Topp

Really great food loved grilling with chef and great place to enjoy the sun set

Jessica Bowden

Lovely location right next to the beach . $22 fish tacos served both of us and came with delicious chips. Trevor our waiter was great !!! They don’t have barista coffee though so I wouldn’t recommend an iced coffee from there.

Lacey Ann

If I could give 0 stars I would. The Shore Bird was a favourite restaurant of mine and I was so excited to go back last week only to find out it had changed hands! The menu selection was very poor (and not cheap) Gone were the gorgeous salads that used to be in the salad bar, the aloha berry, lava flow and pina colada cocktails and my favourite teriyaki chicken with pineapple salsa. I ended up eating a cold baked potato and mac and cheese (really!?) So disappointed so I will not return when I am back in town! Server was very nice.

Fish was dry. But overall taste was good...the view of the beach?? Excellent!!!

The Shore Brid sucked when it closed. Now its a new restaurant, well not really, and its worse. Higher prices, lazy staff and poor quality meat. I will go elsewhere.

Lauren Sullivan

We had the buffet breakfast for 5 of our 6 mornings while staying at the Outrigger. So convenient going downstairs with one of the nicest breakfast views I've had in my life. Options from the buffet were standard but as good as one would expect, obviously if we kept going back. The waiters were always on the ball with drinks/ refills, and the hostess was always very cheerful.

Eric Moody

Good food and staff

Albert Marcheschi

Bartenders are the best, Emilee,Jamie and Ted...my favorite watering holebut your food prices are ridiculously to high and you need day time music to get some people interested in going .

Corin Hoskins

Great food, Unbelievable views, I highly recommend this spot. Staff is accommodating and friendly, food is delicious, I highly recommend the chicken strips with the house made Siracha dip. Thanks for the food guys! See yeah in a few months!

Henry Beidleman

Went in October because we always loved the Shore Bird. It's a total disaster as far as I'm concerned. Ridiculous prices, salad bar is $22 and not a quarter of the times the Shore Bird salad bar had. Meat was pretty questionable and service was lacking severely. Drink prices are also through the roof. No more "buy one get 50% off the second. No early bird specials, no decent happy hour deals. This place is a total bust. New management team should be fired and replaced. They also closed the nice restaurant across the way and turned it into some kind of private club for hotel guests only. Hopefully, this place will soon go out of business and they will bring someone in to do something smart with this place. Maybe like re-open the Shore Bird !

Ok, so how it works is that you order your protein and you have the option of going up to the grill to cook your own meat or pay the $15 and they'll cook it for you. You get your steak or kabob or whatever from the butcher case and you choose a rub. Then take it to the grill where you will have tongs and a spatula and there you go. There will be an assistant at the grill to assist you so don't be afraid if you haven't grilled anything. YOu'll also have access to the salad bar and for your steak, you can add a finishing sauce. But at the end of the day, it was a gimmicky place. For $40, you can get a ribeye. The problem I have is with the steps. First off, for the price (if you include them cooking it) is equivalent to going to a steakhouse for a good cut of steak. First off, my table ordered some items off the menu. At least the timing worked out where I came back and only had to wait for maybe 5 minutes for the rest of the food to come out. Not sure if they paid attention to it or not so I'll give the benefit of the doubt that they already knew I would go right after I was done with the salad bar. When I got to the butcher case, there wasn't enough marbling on the ribeye to consider even angus rated. It definitely was supermarket basic grade. I had the green herb rub which actually had a good taste to it. But the rub was very clumpy so the staff "tried" to sprinkle it and just took a knife and pushed it in. So the spread wasn't every even. They didn't add any salt or pepper so I had to assume they there was enough seasoning in the rub itself. A little lazy on this execution for an uneven preparation. They didn't even coat it with olive oil. Then I got to the grill. The assistant was working very hard running around the grill top to ensure everyone's meat was cooked properly. I give him kudos. I actually asked for garlic butter but he said I would've had to ask the waiter. Had i known, i would've probably gotten it but I was already halfway done with the cooking. The finishing sauces was not bad. There was kalbi sauce and some generic steak sauce. It was ok at best. At the end, i was left feeling that this was a tourist trap. I definitely wouldn't go there again if i really wanted a quality steak.

pkingsgs

What a terrible experience for such a fantastic location. Service was terribly slow and unknowlegdeable. Turns out you cook your own food even though the waiter said to see the grill master. Menu was written so small you could not read it without the flashlight on phone. We were so disappointed I looked up the website after dining and there was more info than the menu or waiter gave to us. So basically it’s a self service buffet that is not all you can eat yet costs $50 for a fillet with zero sides. Just the piece of steak.

P Flaherty

It's almost as good as the old Shorebird.

jason burdon

This review is for dinner (they do have a good breakfast buffet). Dinner is a cook your own meat on the grill concept. The location and views are great, but that's what you are paying for. If you want a steak, there are better options in wikiki for the same price. If you go here, do it for your experience.

Mike Mitchell

Great view! The food and service was very good.

Cori Zaenkert

Great view of the sunset, nice atmosphere, good food and live music!

Keith Bobick

The food was good but there is something not right about having to get your own meat and then cook it yourself.

Rebecca Sosa

Nice view of sunset. Food was delicious

Brad Keats

Over priced, slow service, food was...ok. salad bar sucks. They tried to take the Shorebirds type restaurant and make it more "modern" but in all reality, they made it worse. We wont be eating here again.

Joshua Rotert

Great unique experience for my mother's birthday. Nick was a great server and never missed a step.

Elaine Morton

Breakfast was ok , would I go again?? No. The best thing about the Reef bar were the staff absolutely beautiful

Jenn Riley

Morning Happy Hour with an amazing view.

Jaread Johnson

We enjoyed the ceasar salad with seared mahi and fresh fruit kabobs for lunch. The lava chocolate cake with guava sauce in the center and coffee was delightful!

Scott Taylor

The Shorebird is dead. Long live the Shorebird. Now that being said this place actually does a few things the Shorebird should have; for example the butchers counter is a nice touch, as is the selection of dry rubs and finishing sauces. Yes, the salad bar is definitely worse off and prices are unquestionably higher. Still, we had good service and the views can't be beat. Is it as good as the Shorebird was? Definitely no. But still worth a trip, just temper your expectations.

RiverLife77

Love it! Eat beachside and cook your own steak. Excellent salad bar.

Brandie W.

Best view of all the restaurants we visited during our 5 day vacation. It is almost on the beach sand. With the open shutter, a bird walked along the ledge and we could see the ocean outside. Food was great. Limited but delicious menu. Attentive server. Cool fans on a shared belt above your head. Would recommend.

Lord Alfred Dela Cruz

Service was excellent. For the price of the meat they have, you would expect for them to cook the meat for you. But no! Expect to sweat and grill your own meat!

Al Sessions

Food was excellent and waitress waiter were very good.

Alan Unis

The original table-side, grill experience by extraordinarily talented chefs. This is where Japanese-American fusion cuisine started!

Fun vibe, good happy hour nice staff

Joanna Ward

Stayed in the hotel and had breakfast every morning plus 1 dinner. It is pricey, but the view makes up for it. The buffet was okay. The choices changed every day and there was an omelet station where a chef would make them fresh for you with a variety of ingredient choices. I couldn't get enough of the Apple Crepes. It was nothing exceptional, I just really liked them. The fruit was amazing! I could eat the blackberries all day long. I sprung for the more expensive Mai Tai for the better rum, and it was worth it (only $2 more than the other one as well as less sweet.) Dinner was great. We chose to cook our own meat but the chef, Junior, did the cooking for us. He was chatty and fun, talking about his heritage and the 5 different languages he spoke. He made the experience more interesting with his wonderful personality. The staff every time has been above and beyond amazing. They have greeted us with smiles and warmth. One of our waiters even gave my wive a club soda and bitters drinks when he heard she had an upset stomach. It helped! We never had bad service. In my experience, you get what you give. The only downside in my opinion were the birds. They were so bold that they would fly onto the tables and chairs. Hey people, DON'T FEED THE BIRDS, you won't get rid of them! Sure they are cute but they are annoying when you're trying to eat! All in all, it's a nice place but the prices are a bit high and tourists need to stop feeding the birds.

Burt Matsushima

Awesome. Easy going, chill atmosphere and server was just as good!

Dana Lori

We had excellent service from our Server Nick and Grill Master Junior. Nick was attentive and on top of everything. He offered great recommendations and was a lot of fun to converse with. Junior was equally as personable and gave us a few tips for grilling at home. They both made our experience a memorable one and we would absolutely go back next time we return to Honolulu.

David Van Nispen

Great oceanfront location, great service, great food. Mai tai was almost as good as the old Shorebird.

Tim Wise

Food was very good and views were amazing!

Brian Merkel

5 stars for Mikey at the bar. Artist with cocktails. The frozen Mo'o is an insanely great drink.

Paul Harris

I liked it, service was fantastic. But for cook your own, a little too pricey. Great views, the ladies will love it.

Riley Carl

Great view but prices are high.

Drew Becker

Being right on the beach in Waikiki I was prepared for the high prices for food. However I was under the assumption that that price would include someone cooking your food. Expect to grill all your proteins yourself here. I had the skirt steak. The size was alright but overall it was a poor cut of meat even for skirt steak. Wish they would at least marinate them for you rather then giving you a bunch of rubs you pour over the top before throwing on the 500 degree grill. Service was alright. Go for the drinks and the view, skip the food unless you feel like doing all the work.

Tim Hemp

Enjoyed dining here five times this week. Four for breakfast buffet and once for dinner. Lee Ann and Yoze are FABULOUS! Incredible view of Diamond Head just inches from the beach while you enjoy a great buffet - rare experience. We’ll be back!

Richard Vaughn

Not the same as the Shore Bird. Prices higher for less offered. Probably need to entertain offering more.

Luna Wolf MXS

This place is ok If you want basic food and beer. They sometimes have live music and karaoke, which can be fun. If it wasn't on the beach in Hawaii, it wouldn't stay in business...

Leo Sanchez

Awful service good food

Penny Christie

I had breakfast at The Reef Bar and Market Grill, which is owned and operated by the Outrigger Reef Hotel and located right on Waikiki beach. There is plenty of seating and is wheelchair accessible/friendly; as well as child friendly. They have a great variety on the menu or you can choose the all you can eat buffet. I was happy to order the Açai bowl which was delicious. #letsguide #açai #acaibowl #buffetbreakfast #allyoucaneat

David Speer

Sit through a timeshare sales pitch, free buffet breakfast...ok nothing great, wouldn't be happy to spend $28 on the food, but the waterfront location was A+

Yvonne Verburgt

Location is nice and we got a table by the window. Server was not friendly. Food at best is mediocre. We ordered the grilled vegetables which was basically a slab of flavorless cauliflower, the strip steak was tough. Adult Mac n cheese was the best thing we ordered. Will not go back. Sad that such a great location doesn’t have good food

Carol Walzer

Good food

S Belgrove

Awesome great food

Gloria McDowell Arato

Changed ownership and the quality of the service and food is not good. I used to love this place! You can no longer cook your own meat and the salad bar is pathetic! Doesn't even have taro! Are we not in Hawaii? Put some Hawaiian foods on the buffet the way it used to be!

John Calhoun

Service was friendly. Food was ok but not great. I had the bacon cheddar burger and it was a little on the crispy side.

Debdeep Bhattacharya

This place has amazing views from the seating area. However, the foods is very expensive and the portion size is small. They don't have too many options to choose from. The service was very slow and the servers occasionally forgot what we ordered.

Joe De La Cruz

I did not expect to cook my our food on the grill considering the price. Food was ok.

E Monagan

MELISSA THE BAR TENDER WAS AWESOME. THE VIEWS AND SUNSETS ARE AMAZIY

Dannice Fuller

The best part of my visits to the island, our waiter Bob was the best ❤❤

Mike Ardessi

Staff are confused. On waiter say beers are $4 every day. Next visit they never herd of $4 beers. Get it straight.

Holly Borgholthaus

It was delicious food and a gorgeous view!! Perfect!!!

D M

3 start for the view and good cocktails, all the food have onion even chicken wings the food is 7/10

Philip Suomu

Redo of the Shore Bird upping the dishes and prices. Nice beachside atmosphere. Great happy hour drinks at the bar.

Terry Norris

Is this the same restaurant previously called the Shorebird? We ate there in 1992 and 2009 and loved it.

Jimmy Sabado

Of course it was awesome. Our grill chef was spot on

Steven DesLauriers

Excellent food, excellent service! We were sitting about 10 yards right off the ocean. Such a beautiful morning it was. This is the type of place you look for when visiting Hawaii. They do their breakfasts very well.

Letitia MH

Great experience was ruined by the "1953 maitai". Please take this off of the Happy hour menu, & off of the regular menu...DO NOT SERVE THIS! It's na'a'a'asstea!!

Kurtis Armour

Amazing hotel bar and restaurant. Mai Tais on special during happy hour for 6$ and they are boozey and delicious. Ate lunch here one day which was fairly expensive but delicious. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food and drink.

mihm farms

Awesome view of the ocean while you drink!

JB11

Lots of buffet selection. Some of it was pretty good. Had stomach trouble all day after eating here. Staff pretty much ignored you most of the time. I had to get my own coffee, from their station, after waiting 15 minutes. The hostess was a big phony. She was so disingenuous it was embarrassing. I would not eat here again.

Claire Elizabeth Grace

LOVE this place, the server Nik is awesome and the grill your own - grill supervisor Shay helped us both visits and is Soo good on the grill and gives you great tips that you can also take home. Thanks!!

Ric Listella

Great Happy Hour!

Scott Waun

Great views of Diamond Head by the window and relaxed bar atmosphere. Food and service were good.

Henner Bättenhaussen

Was amazing! Good service, great food and cocktails.

Donald Rye

Great MaiTais good snacks and a good beach

Paul C

We stopped to eat lunch and it was good, decent portions, quite expensive but you won’t leave hungry. 1 star as we thought lunch went so well we would do dinner but the waiter (young adult) was completely disinterested in earning any kind of tip. Every answer to questions was ‘it’s 22 bucks, your better off going to the buffet’. He couldn’t answer any questions, didn’t want to offer any suggestions other than ‘buffet’. I told him odering dinner shouldn’t be this difficult, he shrugged and we left. No thanks, for that kind of money, there are excellent options right across the road. I highly recommend Pastrami’s.

Jerry Bauzon

We came for a late Saturday lunch and the restaurant was 3/4 empty. We didn't order anything fancy - a burger, shrimp tacos, and a grilled cheese sandwich. It took over an hour for us to get our food because, at first they were "backed up.". Really? Backed up by the other three tables?! The second excuse was, "they messed up the grilled cheese." Again... really?!!! Horrible service. Even though we're staying at the hotel, believe me...we are not coming back! ETA: Changed from a 1 star review to a 2 star. The staff was friendly and the manager tried to make everything right.

Rene Reiner

Good view. The stack steak and shrimp nachos little spicy but tasty.

George Liolios

Great place to have a drink sitt back and relax take in the view

Keith Davis

Steak was not flavorful. Coke was flat.

Jill Cova

For nearly 30 years my family has shared wonderful memories and pictures at the Shorebird. It has been our "Go To" place for happy hour and an early dinner, breakfasts and family reunions. Everyone had their favorite orders. Unfortunately , with this "environmental and price change" . The Reef could only become a special occasion restaurant and at that, there are others that already have priority in my estimation. Why change a concept that had such a following?

Brittany Mulcahey

Massive patio to accommodate guests, both inside and beach front. Very open space with large fans throughout. Friendly and attentive staff. This is a grill-your-own style restaurant with a salad buffet, but also offers a traditional order & serve menu.

Cindy Rasmussen

Beautiful Ocean view dinning, great service. Food was decent, fun to cook my shrimp scewer on an open grill.

Stephan

Perfect location but bad service. Our first visit was 7 years ago and it was great. Yesterday we had a reservation for 2adults and 2kids and took our table (beautiful place first row on the beach) but nobody of the staff showed any interest in us. All the tables around us already had placed their orders and got their drinks. We decided to leave after half an our.

Bill Veazey

Be nice, and Russ will make you the best Mai Tai you've ever experienced

Crystal D

I thought our waiter was super rude and the food was way overpriced. I wouldn't go here again!

Jeff Beebout

Good food and a great view.

Cindy M.

Fantastic view!! Great food and drinks too!!

James Sidney

Extremely overpriced average service and a poor salad bar would not recommend for anybody to visit since the new owners have taken over and pretty much ruined it!!! $32 for kebob with 3 pieces of meat on it with onion and pineapple is just 1 example of how ridiculous it is!

Kim Craig

Delicious and beautiful view

Scruff

Thursday night Chef was a complete moron couldn't have had a worse person at The Barbeque didn't know how to cook a steak costly error worst clam chowder I have ever had and the chef at the grill was so proud that he made the soup too poor waitresses it's not their fault. The salad bar was horrendous

Denise Linkson

Friendly waiters & delicious mia tias with great views over Waikiki Beach.

Chase Hall

... I visit Hawaii for about 2 months out of the year. One month in July/August and another in November. I've eaten at at least 100 places on the island, a few a handful of times. Tonight we went to The Reef with a group of 17. The atmosphere was a solid 6 and the service was a 10. The food, the food was another story. The food at this place was without question the worse food on this island. I do not by any means recommend this place at all. I will never come back nor will I suggest it to anyone. I will even suggest to all of my friends to avoid this place. Just 1 groups opinion. Mahola Update: When the night was drawing to an end, we had a unexpected visit from the manager. While I didn't get her name, I did get her scentcerity. This manager was 100% sorry about how the night had went and did everything in her power to make it right. Customer service goes a long way. Although the food for our particiular meal wasn't what we had hoped for "only 1 groups opinion", the customer service was unparallel. Thank You to The Reef for taking care of my family on this extremely special trip.

Cynthia Matthew

Good food, location, and service There is inside and outside seating. Rock music.

Mayukh Chatterjee

Great oceanfront dining. Fish tacos are delicious

Scott Solyman

Excellent variety of foods, excellent customer service. A very friendly staff. A beautiful view to enjoy your meal with.

Cassie Stad

Coolest restaurant I've ever been to! Loved the ahi tuna and the staff was very friendly

Joyce Cheeley

Great happy hour!

Michael Moffett

No changes other than doubling every price since the Shorebird closed. For $24 you can get a vegetable stack or adult chicken fingers.

Murray McEwan

I'd have to agree with some of the other reviewers who were not impressed. What, does the management think that a high price is what sets a great restaurant apart? How about instead of the expert chef flying around trying to cook everyone's meal, he might provide a meat thermometer and advise on what temp to cook your meat, and where the grill temp is best for cooking a particular cut. And he could add your potato and hot vegetable of the day when you are done cooking? I chose a top sirloin. The expert chef at least cut it in half for me because it was too thick to be cooked on this open grill. It was chewy, too, not the prime cut i was hoping for. I could also have cooked my own raw sliced up potatos in a foil pouch while grilling my meat. You know, like any reasonable person would do at home, for god's sake. I don't know if the lettuce bar makes up for the shortfalls of the grill-it-yourself concept. It was not an outstanding salad bar. I'd sooner go the the Cheesecake factory, pay the same and have a great experience.

Rick Claspy

Good food and good show but very expensive.

Marc Tucker

First of all for the price do you really want to cook your own meal. The highly prized salad bar was disgusting. Even the view wasn't that good even though it was on the beach. Two stars because the server was trying his best

Robbie Sanders

Wow. I’m at a loss of words on how best describe how downhill this restaurant has gone. I never like nor enjoy leaving negative reviews... but unfortunately, there just isn’t any other review that can be left. The reviews posted that illustrate the mediocrity of the salad bar and menu selections that are overpriced are spot on. The reef restaurant is no where near the caliber of the shore bird.

Frank R

Great place to grab a bite while chilling at the Waikiki beach

Jan Stubbe

Good breakfast buffet and great service.

Kyngzton Boi TORRES

Great Food Great service Best View

Rob cripe

Wait staff was terrible,( Nick) we were a large group traveling together, and when we sat down he told us we would have to pay all on one check, I had ribs that were so tough that I couldn’t eat it, our side dishes were brought our while our entree was being cooked and they were cold, the waiter just didn’t care I think he was upset that we were a large group and didn’t want to wait on us. Be forewarned about the quality of food and the waitstaff

Lori McGriff

We had the breakfast buffet, the fruit was awesome but the rest was nothing special.

Bob Sanders

Ordered 5 cheeseburgers price was outrageous over 176.00 dollars. Not very good service either. Prices doubled over Shorebird restaurant prices. No longer accept airline discounts for airline employees who come to Waikiki for vacation quite often.

Brenda Grantis

Overpriced for sure. Filet was great as well as the salad bar... garlic bread was poor, the mai tai was BORING and extremely overpriced. The floor was sticky thru out. Probably wouldn't return :-(

Yauchin Lam

I am getting the Wakiki Breeze again

Anthony Smith

Enjoyed the steak kabobs and wifey enjoyed the crabcake along with the oceanview seating. She said it was romantic! Would have received all 5 stars if waiter was better. Didn't refill waters until I asked when I was about to leave.

Stephen Famulak

Good food and good drinks! Good view of the sunset.

Larry Bogumil

Nice salad bar. Junior our grill guy was great and explained everything. Our waiter was very friendly and explained what our choices were. We make this a spot to hit whenever we are In Honolulu.

Kathy Leffler

Needed a relaxing drink, the lava flow drink was the best. Bartenders werev excellent.

Tyler Sanders

We had dinner here in February. The food and the environment are similar to Shorebird (the restaurant there prior that was a favorite of many). However, they have essentially doubled the prices. But..the food and salad bar are not as good as Shorebird was. The service was not great either. We just went again yesterday, April 2, to try it again, in hopes that they had improved (not even dreaming that things could get too much worse than they were in February). The only reason we wanted to give it a second chance is because we loved the old shorebird so much. Instead, things have gotten even worse! The Shorebird was known for its grill and salad bar. The newer Reef Market Grill still had the grill and a salad bar in February, but they had pretty much ruined the salad bar. Now, they have built a wall in front of the grill area. I just figured they were repairing/renovating the grill area, so I asked one of the hostesses...”are you all bringing the grill back or is it permanently gone?”. She said that they may bring it back in the future, but she didn’t know. We decided to go eat elsewhere for dinner. I’m pretty sure yesterday’s experience has ruined any chance of us ever giving them another try in the future. They have ruined the restaurant and food completely. The food is much lower quality than what the Shorebird had, and their prices are outlandish! It’s sad that it was once one of our favorite places to eat, and now I wouldn’t even want to eat there if they gave me free meal vouchers. Don’t waste your money and your evening, there are now much better places to eat. Very sad to say, but it’s true at this point. I hope management will turn it around and go back to how the Shorebird was. The should’ve never changed anything.

Andrew Robertson

We finished our last night of a 5 week adventure with an awesome night of food and great service. Table and bar service was attentive, meals were excellent. Chef helped cook a perfect steak. Price was a little on the top side however when you consider the location its worth the extra cost.Would have given 5 stars except the salad bar was a letdown. It needs some work to polish the presentation and offer more variety. Will be back.

Jim Bari

Good food and music

Stephen moffett

Good pupus and music. Enjoyed the open air atmosphere.

Rachie P

Formerly known as shorebird. Beautiful open window with amazing view concept. Grill your own with fresh picks daily. Meats, fishes, and veggies. Wide variety of dipping sauces available. Full bar available. Located in the Outrigger hotel in Waikiki.

Patricia Richards

You feel like you are on the beach.

Christian Baucom

My experience is specifically for the bar. I was given immediate attention by the bartender and she was extremely welcoming and helpful. I was able to try out various beers and settled on a Mai Tai. It was absolutely worth the price. You get an amazing view of the beach and perfect seating to see the sunset. Out of all the reviews I have read your real value is grabbing a bar seat, getting a great drink and watching the sun set.

Edward Szotak

Great view good food and adult beverages Hawaiian beach prices

Bradley Kepp

Interesting place. Great seaside location. Waiter invited use to the salad bar before making our selection. Afterwards he informed me I would have to cook my own dinner if I wanted fish. As I went their for fish and quit frankly did not go out for dinner to cook my own meal I bowed out and just had the salid. The waiter informed me it was $22 for salad. Needless to say I was not impressed. If you enjoy cooking your own meal this is the place for you, otherwise skip it and go to a real resturant. To bad the waiter did not take two minutes to discribe their way of having you cook your own food which just would have resulted in me going somewhere eles rather than being charged for a high priced salad. I went with 3 stars just becuase of the location.......nice seaside view and really just it's my idea of service but others may enjoy cooking their own food.

Went for the Beyond Burger, left with food poisoning. Disgusting. Left one star because our server was nice.

Kevin Bellamy

Staff and food are great and it's not as crowded as the places on the strip!

Jim Keohane

Sitting at the bar, it was average at best. Out of copper mugs for their signature mule drink and couldn't even split the kinds of tacos for their street taco plate, had to all be the same.

Stee zo

The food selection was pretty limited, but the oceanfront view was amazing.

Guillermo Zea

The only reason I have it 2 stars was because of the view, other then that it was horrible!

Great food and magnificent service. Loved the buffet breakfast

Courtney Liwski

The views are amazing and the nachos are delicious

The Shore Bird it is not. Apparently in September of this year, the past owners of 38 years had retired and essentially gave up the restaurant. Strange that would be the case since its was a Waikiki icon for so many years. I made reservations thinking it was essentially the same restaurant. However those that have come here before when it was the Shorebird, prepared to be disappointed. It's still the same concept of grill your own meat or fish. However, the prices have essentially gone up as the salad bar is not as extensive as before. Essentially green salads and fruits. Gone are the hot food and other accompaniments that you could use as a side dishes with your grilled meat. You can still get accompaniments but you'll need to pay extra for that. About $8 a dish. Those that want to get just the salad bar... $22 and based on what is available, not worth it. Only good thing to note was the staff was great, but, because the value of the food is now gone, I'm afraid that will be the last time I go to the restaurant. A shame because it was one of my go to place with the family for the many years that I had eaten at the old establishment.

Went for breakfast. It's an okay buffet. Foods decent but the servers are great.

Gordon Collier

Great breakfast! Omelet bar was a little backed up. Bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict all on the line as well as cereal and fresh cut fruits. Eat what you like and look out to the pacific ocean, surfers, bikini girls and pleasure boats a few feet away.

Most reviewers compare this place to what it was, not what it is. Fantastic ocean front views, good bar but dining experience is so so. Great idea but just not on point. Prices are reasonable given the area it is in.

Food was great, service was amazing.

I took one look at the menu prices and decided to leave. Not to mention, the staff were unenthusiastic and the service was slow. I used to love coming here for reasonably priced drinks and karaoke, but now it's way too overpriced. I'm not sure how this place expects to survive.

Fantastic view, friendly staff, great food.

Tasteful! Excellent service!

Unusual concept, and dreadful service especially in terms of communication from our server. Items come either from the grill (get up and fetch your raw protein, season it and deliver it to the grillmaster or cook it yourself), or from the kitchen (comes out to the table uncoordinated with anything from the grill). My husband ate his salad and half of our appetizer while I stood over at the grill watching my steak. The grillmaster seemed surprised that dining out, I had thought someone would cook my food and bring it to me. Steak done, we actually just ate it together since his meal didn't come out for many minutes. Meanwhile, we were ignored by the server who never came to check on us or find out if we were enjoying ourselves. The couple next to us left their food on the table, paid the bill and departed. The complaints could continue, but nearly all could have been smiled away by a little guidance and clarification from the server. It was the only unpleasant experience we've had in Hawaii, it takes all lot to get us disgruntled, but we almost handed the hard working busboy a $20 to rescue us.
