Avoid that place by any cost

formy remarks

AVOID THIS NASTY PLACE The food was stale, service bad and the worst part is, the owner is a grumpy monkey who has a very nasty attitude. I won't be surprised if this restaurant closes down soon. All the good comments are put in by the nasty owner himself. AVOID THIS NASTY PLACE

Karishma Rawtani

I've never seen an owner being so ridiculous in my life. We asked him "what would you recommend". He said I don't recommend dishes if you have a problem with that you can leave. His behaviour was not that of a normal man. I've actually never written a Google review in my life. His behaviour has forced me to write one.

Aimee Jacobs

Over priced buffet... 55.00 for my son n I to eat one plate. Absolutely rediculous...

Varun Gande

We decided to eat here because this was the only Indian restaurant on the south side of Kauai aside from Potions. The experience we had here was a forgettable one. We were asked to sit down and we waited about 30 minutes until someone asked us something to drink. They were not that busy either. Then we waited 15 more minutes to order our food. Once we got the food 30 minutes later, we were not satisfied at all. The cauliflower in the Aloo Gobi was basically raw. We ordered 3 types of rice: The peas pulao was decent (nothing special about it), but the jeera rice and regular rice were bland and lacked salt, so they did not taste well at all. The naan was also burnt and smelled of smoke. Overall, not such a great experience here at Shivalik, and being a Desi I would have preferred to eat at somewhere like Cafe Turmeric (which has great reviews) or just a home-cooked meal.

Buffet Wednesday and Fridays. Nice selection. Great coconut lamb curry.

mos mo

Very good food, made exactly as ordered. Thank you

Marek Bejda

Loved the food and experience!

Paula Vuli

Nice Curry evening buffet on Wednesdays and Fridays

Rajani Shenoy

Good food. Only Indian restaurant we found in kauai. Quick service, pretty big portion size.

dheeraj r

Really good food .. Probably the best food we ate in our 10 day trip to Hawaii. We are vegetarian and took Thali (channa masala and mutter paneer)

Robert Sanderson

nice staff, good portions, quite spicy and heavy on the cardamom. Not much ambience and not quite to our taste, but not bad

Blaine Hodder

Excellent food, excellent service, and many delicious options for vegans. Not sure why all the reviews aren't great. We loved it!

Natalie Beavers

Service was great, and the lamb was perfect.

Brandon Bush

Shivalik was fantastic! The service was very nice and quick. The food was delicious. On our first visit, I had Chicken Tandoori (Spicy) and my wife got the Fish Tikka, which was fresh Ono. Both were fantastic and spiced perfectly to our request. The food really was quite tasty. After two days of hiking and overnight camping on the Kalalau Trail, all we could think about was eating ourselves into a food-coma at Shivalik! It was a Wednesday, which meant buffet night!! Amazing! A fantastic selection of all the classic Indian dishes with friendly service! My wife, in a post-hiking ravenous state, was craving the Kashmiri naan, which was not on the buffet. After piling our trays embarrassingly high with Indian delicacies, we discovered a fresh naan on our table baked just for us!! Thank you Shivalik for a very nice evening out!

BEWARE: Indian Restaurant not for Indian origin people Owner has got very bad attitude towards Indians. If you are willing to give 18% tip irrespective of service or attitude, you can go. I rather would recommend nearby vegetarian places like Papaya. We were forced to leave dinner in between due to less tip and said to our face that, I don't want Indians in my restaurant. Was not willing to listen what tip is actually for, and it's not something you can demand from customer.

Gaurav Anand

Only quality of the place is being the only indian restaurant for namesake on Kauai. à la carte food was stale.

Minn Tun

Very good Indian food. I eat here every time I visit Kauai. Lamb Masala and Tandoori Chicken are both really good, and they usually have a buffet on Wednesdays so you can have both. Recommended.....enjoy!

Gopi Vietnam

Had lunch here on Saturday with family. We ordered only veg items and all were served quickly and tasty. The Dal was bit over salted & upon our intimating it to the waiter, it was replaced immediately. Definitely worth trying.

Craig

Glad to know hes racist towards Indians. Thanks for the heads up, gonna give my business to other local people!

My wife and I really enjoyed Shivalik when it first opened about six years ago. After a couple of years, the manager left and the food quality declined, so after a few more visits we quit going there. For the past two years the bad reviews of the food, the attitude of the manager, and the mandatory 18% gratuity kept us away. However, recent reviews often gave the food a high rating, while the manager still had several bad ratings, and the 18% gratuity still grated on many. But, having a hankering for some Indian cuisine, I decided to take a chance by going to the Wednesday buffet last week. We arrived about 5:30 PM. There were about four tables of diners. The staff were pleasant and we had prompt service. The food was very good--I'd give it a 7.5 (out of 10). It was fresh, hot (temp), some was moderately spicy, tasty, with many options. The price of $19.95 was reasonable for Kauai. My wife's Coke was $3, as was my hot chai tea (with a free refill). When the bill came there was no mandatory gratuity! So, overall, I was very pleased and we will definitely go to the buffet again.

Deepak Sharma

The only thing worse than the service was food. It took us 10 mins to get the table, another 20 mins to get opportunity to place order another 40 mins to inquire again and get served, 10 more mins to get spoons/fork. Everything had too much salt in it. Paneer tikka masala tasted salty onion gravy and Dal Makhani was salted lentils and butter naan was very salted indian bread. We usually get boxes for any leftovers but despite our inability to finish off 3/4th of dal and half of tikka masala gravy, we had to leave it on the table. At the price they charge, I wish they had served something edible. Informed them about how terrible the food was and that it had too much salt - there was hardly a response - just the customer copy of receipt. Not recommended at all unless that's the only option available to you.

Gabriela Camacho

This place is DELICIOUS!!!!! IF you are in Hawaii and want to try a taste of authentic Indian food this is the place. Krishna was amazing awesome AND FAST service. Def recommend this place. Thank you!

Arunachalam Narayanaswamy

The only lunch option was a pre-set meal of rice, naan, salad with different choices for the curry. The taste was really good though. Don't try the chai.

Swapnaa Jayaraman

Shockingly poor attitude for a restaurant that boasts "new management" on their front door. We returned from a cold hike in the mountains and longed for "chai and samosas". When we walked in to ask about the menu the man at the counter (manager?) treated us like we were asking for free food. Literally shooed us away (hand gesture, head gesture, the works!): "Wednesday evening buffet only, no no, please go". We're from India and we're no strangers to bad attitudes from restaurant managers but this was a new low. That too in beautiful Kauai where everyone seems so chilled out. We gave our business to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf next door and enjoyed our lattes and lemon cakes.

Senthil Velliyangiri

This is the best in all Hawaii Islands

Sowmya kattamuri

Poor service and food was so so...

Fenil Patel

Good service. Owner is nice and friendly. He did help us with our special requirement of the food. Really expensive food and okay taste.

Window Fashions Kauai

Food is delicious. Naan is just right. Lunch prices and serving size are reasonable. The buffet is great for the guys who want more than one plate. Even if you only get one plate you still get to try a bit of everything which is fun. Highly recommend.

Paul Smithies

Buffet. The usual

Ashish Singh

Wow just wow......my experience cannot be put in words..... Owner/Manager is Indian and showed clear sign of racism towards Indians. This is the first time in my life I saw someone being racist to his own race. In short he does not want Indians to visit his restaurant. Once our food arrived we were shocked. Curry pot was half empty. Naan were completely uncooked. We were not finished eating and food plates and curry pot was picked up without asking us and taken away. We had another Indian party sitting across the hall who were told to pay $5 for cut onions(which they thought was free of cost) in a very high pitch by Owner/Manager so much so that they were embarrassed. Again racism towards Indians. While we got up from the table and went straight to pay our bill instead of taking our bill manager made us wait for 5 minutes at counter while he cleaned our table and decorated it for another guest.. With soo much poison in Owner's/Manager's mind this place is bound to go out of business soon.

sandy sandy

Worst service and average taste

Srikanth Sridharan

Good food and service.

Christianna Starnes

Best Samosa ever! Wonderful service :)

Nandit Patel

I wanted to give 0 rating like -5 but don't have choice to give 1 atleast. if you don't want to make your nice day to bad day then this is not right place. Completely disappointed with service disgusting place. So rude people we left without even eating.place is like hell person are also so rude. Didn't even answered our questions and gave rudely attitude. So end of we left without ordered. Employee was not even smiled or so direction for seat just wave had to seat down. So rude made our day bad !!!!!

Nic A

We had a great dinner and very good service. We are vegan/vegetarian and they had a wonderful selection for us (not on a buffet night).

Amit Lalloobhai

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Service was excellent, food was good. A little pricey compared to indian restaurants on mainland, but it is Hawaii after all. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Chitra Patil

Being the only Indian restaurant on the island, they have no concept of customer service. Reminds me of the Indian customer service in the old days, like they are doing the customer a favor... didn't even have chai or coffee..

Bobby Leer

Don't get trapped by their lunch special thali. The food they serve in thali tastes horribly stale and could very will be the recycled left over food from buffet on wed and fri.

Akshay Ram

If you are in dire need to have Indian food in Hawaii, hey there's an option! But otherwise average.

Rajini Parameswaran

You're better off ordering a Pizza! We first visited Shivalik back in 2010, and just last week, and my what a difference 8 years can make! The food was substandard, let me break it down: Paneer Makhni had crumbled little blobs of paneer floating in an overly tangy tomato gravy. The tomato soup was essentially the gravy for Paneer Makhni watered down!! The raita was essentially yogurt with microscopic pieces of tomato that had to be hunted down. The Aloo Paratha was an under-cooked(raw) naan, stuffed with potatoes. And the price for all this substandard food? A mere $90!! Don't waste your beautiful island vacation on this place, I sure won't return here.

Sam Patel

To pricey for buffet and not fresh naan it was hard and chewy.Taste of food was ok ,not what I would spend for Indian food. I would rather eat local food.

Abhishek Chhajer

Food is acceptable. Being the only option I would say it's not bad.

Ryan Moen

On point Buffett! Wednesday and Friday, OMG!!!! Lamb curry is my jam.

Kshama Pai

Food is simple (not spicy, not bland). Definitely would recommend the naan. I wad craving Indian food and currently this is the only place in kauai that will provide. One point to note though is the quantity is really small and prices are high; this might be attributed to the difficulty in procuring some raw materials for cooking indian food. There's a food truck out but I've never seen it on the street or functioning so might be a new venture. Also they have a notice that says daily thali but the server said only weekdays. So i think they should clarify this.

Gaurav Saxena

Its amazing place , the owner was quite polite and help us in understanding some of the waterfall trails. Food is nice if you consider this island and the other options. Definetly recommend.

Neeraj Agarwal

Good was good. But not ended at a good note. DEMANDED and FORCED very high tip amount for a family of 4. Very unusual. Something I never came across anywhere across US before.

Shilpa Konukandla

worst food and poor service

Divyachapan Padur

The only Indian restaurant in town. When you are starved, this is heaven

Maor amor

Personal attention, kind people. reasonable prices for very good and authentic food. Recommended for meet eaters and vegitarians . For fastidious people.

Rama Narayana

I have gone to order togo at 8:25 pm and they said they are closed.. i wish they have proper mention about the timings, which would have saved us the trouble of going all the way to the restaurant..i felt they are very rude and improfessional

Sheena Shah

Best Indian food on the island! Our server was very attentive and the food was made fresh and prepared as ordered. Thank you Chef Amit for an excellent first experience; we will definitely be returning!

Charles Ellenberger

If you appreciate delicious authentic Indian cuisine, served in a clean, and peaceful setting, then this is the place for you on Kauai. My wife and I have been enjoying this restaurant for about 4 years and we've never been disappointed. Sam the manager is a kind and caring host and he will go out of his way to make your visit is special. Shivalik is perfect place for a vegetarian to find many tasty choices to choose from.

R Patel

Good for Hawaiian standard & must for vegetarian

Justin May

Good for Vegans. I don't know what's up with all the bad reviews but this food is bomb. Kapaa has a handful of vegan options and this is one of them! The server is a bit fast paced, but that didn't affect our delicious meal. This place is good for Vegans, don't be deterred by negative reviews.

Raja Sekhar

Great place for Indian food lovers !!

Deepa gohil

Indias please don't go to shivalik. The man started fighting and behaved rudely with us. We had to leave without completing food. answer to any suggestions/questions was I don't care. And was just intested in tips. Till the time non India's are there in the restaurant you will be treated like unwanted guest in a party who is paying for his food. We had asked him 1 simple question "how many pieces are there in 1 nan". His answer was "1 nan 1 piec". And when order arrived it was 4 pieces of 1 nan. We were so hugery that we did't bothered and started eating. We decided not to tip him fair amount as we were not satisfied with service or food. He became angry so we politely wanted to explain the things we did't like but his answer was I don't care just give me 18% tip as per Hawaii law and leave the place.we were shocked he started shouting we had 2 small kids so we left the place. If you have non India's in your group or if you are not Indian then he might treat you differently.

Vikalpa Jetly

They had a sign up saying they were under 'new management'. The service made me seriously wonder what the 'old management' was like! Instead of courteously explaining to us why they could not provide us with some chai/pakoras as they were serving their precious 17$ buffet ,the gentleman in charge started rudely shaking his head vigorously as if caught in an infinite loop saying 'cant do it ..cant do it ..cant do it..cant do it! Unless you see a 'under third management sign'..avoid!

Madhu Ponnada

Very tasty meal. Was well prepared especially with lot of caution catering to kids with Nut allergy

Christine Frazer

Just had a buffet style dinner there tonight... it was PACKED! There was a great selection : vegetable pakora (crispy and delicious deep fried potato slices), coconut lamb curry (scrumptious), sabzi, (yum), potato and cabbage (amazing) and much more. The owner as well as all staff have been very friendly and accommodating all 6 times we've eaten there. Even when our 2 year old is loud they are super understanding... so, great, fresh food (we've travelled to India many times and are totally happy with this quality & flavor), great service and good prices, considering we're on Kauai. Five stars from me and my whole family!

Nita Shah

Very nice experience! Delicious food. Chef came out to check on us. Highly recommend!

gray gorney

I enjoyed it very much.

Shubham Sharma

Bad Bad bad food

Jignesh Patel

Quality of Indian food is really bad.

Aditya Rao

Average taste in Kauai, though you my not find a lot of Indian restaurants. Seating area feels a bit darker and there wasn't any buffet when we had lunch there

Upasna Dhupar

Terrible service. Mediocre food. Dirty furnishings

Amitabh Dubey

I am currently sitting here and I had to write this review to tell everybody how disgusting the food was. The vegetables jalfrazi was just all boiled vegetables and everything else was really very substandard.

Jim Sullivan

need more staff. generous servings

Jennifer Martin

Food is so good and spicey.

Roshni Patel

Very good Indian food!! Their green chutney is a home run! We got the yellow dal, bindi, garlic naan, paratha, tandoori shrimp and chicken, all were amazing! Their mango lussi is nice and sweet. I’d recommend this place to anyone!

das das

If you are vegetarian and looking for good Indian food worst place and terrible service.

Aritra Dey

Most horrible Indian restaurant. Taste was very ordinary and amount was not adequate. It was too pricey, at least twice compared to mainland.

Regina Floyd

We went on day of buffet. Lots to choose and delicious. I have gluten snd dairy sensitivities so found it difficult to know for sure what was in each item.

Ramya Krishnan

Excellent vegetarian food, definitely try the nimbu chawal. Although I did not taste nimbu - the end product was very delicious. If you are in Kauai and would like to feast on some good Indian food, this is the only place to be at.

Virginia Vanaman

Amazing food

Eric Stoltz

I'm not a huge Indian cuisine guy, but I was impressed! Very tasty to me! Can't belive this was my first time here. Got take out, and it was quick. Friendly folks

D Jones

Indian in Hawaii is not a real strong point. You kind of have to take what you can get. While this was perfectly acceptable Indian cuisine, that is about all I can say about it. We dis not have the negative owner experience that some others commented on, but were not wowed by the meal either. We did take out, and it was ready in 20 minutes, which is nice.

Daphne Roberts

Excellent food, good service and nice environment of calm. Highly recommended!

Hexis Wrex

Pricey for the amount of food you get.

Shlaghya Vasishta

Loved the food. Made it a point to visit the hotel atleast once in a day. This hotel made our stay at Kauai so easy

Pana Gregg

My family and I attended the Wednesday night buffet ($21.95 adults, $12.95 children). Prices for buffet much higher than the mainland which is somewhat understandable given that most things/ingredients/produce/meats are imported to the islands and cost more. Selection was ok but could have had at least 2 dessert selections instead of just rice pudding. Vegetable Korma a little bland, Lamb Coconut Curry was very tasty though I would never have guessed it contained any coconut; meat was super tender. Other dishes were spiced cooked down eggplant, vegetable pakoras (I've had better but these were passable), spinach and potatoes, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, plain Naan and plain rice. Service was ok, not great. Was not happy that I was charged full $12.95 for my super picky daughter who only put rice and Naan on her plate. Other places have either never charged me or at least just charged me the rice and bread. I didn't ask for an allowance on her "meal", but good customer service would have determined that common sense.

Sonya M Shafer

Had the Friday night buffet for $25 including a $2 tip, water to drink. The selection was fair, with Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandori Chicken, Lamb Coconut Curry, Yellow Daal, Sabza Jalfrezi, Chana Saag, Veg Pakora, Rice, Naan and Rice Pudding. The spice was low to none and the lamb coconut curry was bland. The food was good but not great but can’t speak to non buffet nights, as I imagine the spice heat levels may be different. My water glass was always full. Worth the visit if you’ve a hankering for Indian food since you won’t get your fix anywhere else on Kauai.

Samuel Bonanno

Sami is a wonderful man and the food is always very flavorful Shivalik is a special place try it and you might Love it. Bar is limited choices but it seems authentic to an Indian dining experience

regina narayanan

Got to restaurant at 1:15 and was told they closed only open at 3pm, even though their website says open until 2pm

Varun Khanna

Food is not good. No taste at all.

Julie Dickerson

Delicious food! My son and I had the vegetarian lunch special and loved it. We will definitely be back.

cappington

This is the best sit down Indian food on island in my opinion. Food is good and the staff are friendly and attentive. My only complaint (hence the four stars not five) is that the beer is really expensive. As such we don't drink beer when we dine here which is a shame because everyone knows that once you order one beer you're more likely to order a second which would just mean more profit for the restaurant if their beer was reasonably priced.

Manasvee Kapadia

I usually don't write a post but this place made me. The manager was rude. They charged 25$ per person for a modest buffet and on top of that a 18% gratuity and they didn't even serve or seat. You should consider this only if you have no other option(s).

sonia padhye

Worst Indian food i have ever had. Ate there once and never returned back during my 2 week long stay. Food was stale and tasteless. Dont waste your money.

Shruti Sharma

Horrible food and terrible service.

Denise Robinson

Left stuffed. The staff was quite attentive. Can't wait to try the buffet on Wednesday

Shrikant Kaul Chand

My family and I ate at this place a few days ago and were really glad we did! The manager was very nice and always tended to our needs. More than that, the food was great. If you go there make sure you try the chicken makhani and rogan josh. Also, the manager told us about the Hindu Monastery on the island. Both great places!

Nathanael Düblin

Very good and authentic indian food

Satyam Misra

I order thali and few items definitely looked stale. The owner should look into it. No point selling bad food. You can have limited items in menu and still maintain good quality. Was disappointed

Justin Wistinghausen

This restaurant is located in the foodland shopping center in kapaa near McDonald's. They have delicious food plus on Wednesday and Friday nights it's all you can eat Buffett for $19.99!

Christine Reece

Wonderful service. Delicious food.

Raji Venkatesan

The worst Indian food that we ever had! We went there for lunch buffet and even the basmati rice was soggy! Service wasn't any better either - very average. We went there hungry and none of the dishes were appetizing. Even the vermicelli kheer was lumpy and distasteful!

Brenda Crawford

Shivalik catered a Broker Caravan for me this week. The food was amazing, and everyone said, "It was the best ever Caravan Lunch". Thank you Sam!!!

Cataleya Zhg

Everything was just perfect ! The service was super friendly and competent. Food was also really good. We had the Coconut chicken curry - was goood, Naan bread with garlic - was goood, soup & dessert - was gooood.

Curtis Zehnder

Excellent food, reasonably priced. We ate at the buffet on Wednesday night and the food was fresh and there were great options.

Neha B

Don't expect authentic Indian food. Buffet is too bad !!

Carlthron Antoine

Grest indian food.

angelia campbell

We always love eating here. Everything we've ever ordered has been tasty. It's nice to have something different on island. The saffron rice hits the spot. We recently discovered the buffet nights on Wednesday & Fridays; think that might be a regular thing for us from now on.

Zorrik Voldman

As good or better than most places I ate in while traveling in India. Fresh ingredients, just right taste. A must to visit in Kauai.

Adam Dean

Always an excellent experience. Consistently delicious, and the service is always more than outstanding.

Ted Tate

Expensive for what is provided in the buffet. As far as the quality of the food, it is about middle of the road as well. We will pass on a return visit.

Amit Mehta

Worst indian food that we have had. I really hope that the owner reads this review. it seemed that the basic indian dishes such as tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala were old and tasteless. the rice was being touted as basmati but it was short grain vs. long grain. Wouldn't recommend.

Amrita Mittal

We went there two times, the service is good but the food is not. Both times it was way spicier than we could handle. We are Indian. It's also very pricy. The tandoori roti is pretty bad. The naan was good. Their menu was incomplete, they have thali which seemed like a cheaper option in the hindsight but their menu didn't have it.

Apexa Patel

Bad customer service.

Emilia Suarez Godla

Our favorite neighborhood place! Good friendly service and excellent food.

Leo Si

Manager was so disrespectful to our family. We decided to leave after eating appetizers because the food was not out for 40 minutes and after reading reviews of bad food and bad service. We paid for the appetizers and started to leave which was when he started cursing us out in the middle of the restaurant. He then followed us outside and continued to shout and yell at us while getting in our faces. Stay away and believe everything everyone else has said about this restaurant.

joey sustello

Best Indian food on the island and Fridays there's a buffet

James H

Best xmas dinner! We just got off a plane from Australia. We walked into this amazing Indian buffet and we are now happy and full! Thank you

Arun Nathan

Very good Indian restaurant with an authentic Indian ambience and genuine Indian dishes on its menu . Friendly and quick service .

Deepak Mohanty

We visited Shivalik in December 2014. The food was good. The dal, naan, baingan bharta and butter milk were great. The service was good - they accommodated our team of twelve with six boisterous kids well. In our week-long trip to Maui and Kauai, we had the best food there. We went there again after two days for lunch, but it was closed - call up before you go.

Moksha McClure

I am a fan of their palak paneer and mango lassi. Lovely setting shows pride of ownership. Looking forward to visiting during buffet hours Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Margot Taylor

Great taste but i realized we were overcharged. We ordered takeout. We were not given an itemized reciept... but we were given a free dessert... i think to distract us from that fact. 1. We were given 2 rice vs 1 that we ordered and probably charged for both 2. Ive ordered here before. Got the exact same 3 main dishes plus appetizers and dessert aend we paid less (so we were overcharged but i didnt notice until hindsight). 3. I have a vegertarian society membership which gives 10% off and i asked if they applied it ... he told me he didnt know what i was talking about. When i showed him he just handed us $3 (about 4.5% off) and then said goodbye. Good food but i am almost certain we were overcharged which bothers me a lot. All though it was just one individual who did this i wont go back out of pricipal. I gave it 2 stars as perhaps other employees would have not done this. I also read in another review that indians are not welcome there. I cant verify this... but I am part indian so i do wonder if this why i was over charged. I hope this isnt the case and my 2 star review is based on that not being the case since i cant verify this.

Steven Norris

Great flavors and variety. I would come back again!

Brent

Great buffet at a reasonable price. The owner and staff are all friendly

Jared Diaz

Workers are very friendly, food is very good, only thing is I miss the lunch buffet. Can't eat here as much as I like because slightly expensive to go all the time. Otherwise a very good place to go. Recommend trying this restaurant!

Bhikhu Patel

Very nice food and very friendly service, we had chicken tandoori and shrimp tandoori, chicken curry and chicken butter masala, with paratha, wow what a great taste. I recommend this place and these dishes.

Jamey Kaua'i

good food and we enjoy it, however they are always closed at the most random times. can never count on them to be open.

Hana Rhee

Been here twice and it has wowed me consistently. One of real gems in Kauai and one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to anywhere in the world from fine dining to a hole in the wall. Don't let the modest outside and deco fool you. You are in for a treat! Great staff and friendly service tops it off!! :)

Jay Dorrance

Best night is all you can eat buffet. You get a chance to sample waht you enjoy and later order it as a full meal. Staff is great. I just wish they would stop changing management.

Relationship Literacy

Excellent food great service

Scott McFarland

Wonderful food and service. Highly recommend!

Dibya Sanyal

No A/C or fan in a fully closed restaurant. They kept the door open but there was no other door for cross ventilation. All dishes were sour, couldn't eat any of the dishes. There was only one server for all tables, and there were only 3 tables occupied at a time. But the server kind of missed the point, pretty bad service.

Lyn Wandell

Not that great! Veggies are not fresh

Sunny Shah

Authentic experience! Recommend if you want to try Indian food

Ben Walker

This prior review sums up this restaurant appropriately: “The food was substandard: Paneer Makhni had crumbled little blobs of paneer floating in an overly tangy tomato gravy. The tomato soup was essentially the gravy for Paneer Makhni watered down!! The raita was essentially yogurt with microscopic pieces of tomato that had to be hunted down. The Aloo Paratha was an under-cooked(raw) naan, stuffed with potatoes. The chicken tikka masala had no chicken and took several minutes to refill. Don't waste your beautiful island vacation on this place, I sure won't return here.” To further elaborate, the customer service was subpar and the waiter was very rude during our visit. We would not recommend this restaurant, even as a last resort.

m miller

The buffet was excellent. 20$ each for a large, tasty meal. Lots of choices and not overly spicy. Will return in a week for more yummy food. Has to be a Wednesday or a Friday.

Elana Sokolova

It is not really Indian food.... Some eclectic.

S. Imran Zaidi

Nice place for a home sick person to get his naan & curry.

shahhurley

If you are starving and out of options, this place is good. If you want competitive pricing AND good food, you came to the wrong place. What was good? Warm food. What's bad? You don't need to pay $22 for limited entrees dinner buffet.

Tulsi Patel

Wanted to give this place a good rating since it seems they are recovering from past poor reviews However...service was slow, my channa masala smelled like they had gone bad and tasted off. Malai kofta was good as well as dosa and sambhar. Ambience: 6/10 Taste: 7/10 on non spoilt entrees, 2/10 for channa masala Price: on high side, rice is extra, normal for Hawaii, 6/10

Abhijit Limaye

I always like to try indian food in new places. Food was good. Service was great. Setting is okay and coul be improved a bit. It is pricey !! Compared to the same quality indian food you get in the bay area.

I wasn’t sure about going to this restaurant, thought I would be disappointed with bad indian food but I was pleasantly surprised! It’s thanksgiving so most restaurants were closed in the area so we decided to check out their buffet. The food was not as spicy as I would have liked but the mixed vegetable coconut curry, tandoori chicken, vegetable pakoras, chicken tikka curry, chickpeas and fried bread in the buffet were really good! I didn’t like palak paneer because they use TOFU instead of paneer, it’s a crime to call tofu paneer and the mango custard dessert was just mango purée out of a can, they can at-least add some yogurt and turn it into lassi for dessert! All in all, this isn’t authentic Indian restaurant quality but the food can satisfy both Indians and non-Indians. If you are in the area do give it a try!

We have had Indian food at some great places in the Bay Area and New York etc. This place was a real treat. As good as I have eaten anywhere. DO try it, you'll be super happy!

Good food with lot of options and taste was good for every option I tried from buffett. good Service too. Buffet price is a little steep though @ 21.95.

YUM. The Wed & Fri all you can eat buffet ?5-9pm is a great deal $22 & is delish! Be careful, we WAY over ate. Many tasty sugar-free vegan & meat dishes. So good!

This is the only Indian/Desi place around. Some things they say are halal. But since this is the only place for the Desi palate, there is not much to say other than its pretty standard Indian food joint. Decent food, good service. You can’t go wrong to spice up the palate.

If anyone has an idea what Indian cuisine is, then they cant possibly like this place. We went on a Wednesday night, and had no choice but to eat the buffet. It was simply miserable. The choices were very limited. At the end the price was simply exorbitant. Even obvious things like raita or yogurt were not part of the offerings. The dishes were simply miserable - never saw Dal Makhani made so poorly. Thru the entire dinner the service was non-existent. The worst was yet to come though. At the end, they charged me $22 per buffet when I saw them charge $20 for others. The owner was absolutely rude and dismissive. I saw them charge $13 for kids buffet for others (the bill was right on the desk) and he says there isnt a kids rate for me. I feel he takes advantage of Indian faces. Overall, it was one of the worst experience and I hope others avoid it. I realize there are not many choices in Kauai but this just isnt worth it.

Terrible service and a filthy kitchen that isn't up to par.

Cuisine not good to the palate.

I rather enjoyed my meal here. I have not eaten authentic Indian food before so I can't speak to know accurate the preparation and taste was. I did however enjoy everything I ate from the buffet (Friday night). I'm sure I'll be back again.

Mmmmm. Great tikka masala and curry!

Briyani was good, though of different taste in its own way

Food is cheap. I ordered fish and chips and got what looked and tasted like frozen fish sticks that you would serve in a school cafeteria. Their soup looked good but only 1 won ton in the won ton soup.

As a resident on Kauai, I feel very blessed to have Shivalik on the Island. It is the only authentic Indian restaurant on Kauai. The dinner buffet is fantastic serving an enormous amount of food, both vegetarian and meat dishes. The prices are average for Kauai, where most ingredients are imported from the mainland. Sam, the owner, is a kind man bringing authentic Indian recipes to the Garden Island. I am grateful to have Shivalik as an addition to Kauai. I highly recommend it!

I've eaten here several times now, and have never been disappointed. Tried a few different dishes and they're all delicious! Service is also excellent and the servers/owner are very accommodating to any special requests you might have (such as very mild or no onions, etc.). The serving sizes are also big enough that I always have leftovers to take home. Highly recommended going to the bunfettered to sample a bunch of items at one time!

Fortunately didn't had dinner here as I arrived on there "buffet night". 1 star for the owner/manager's attitude.

Really good buffet on Wednesday and Friday nights. A little on the pricey side, but worth it.
